BUT THE ODDS OF WINNING IF WE’RE BEING REAL OF THE GRAND PRIZE IS 1 IN 292,000,000. SO, IN YOUR VIEW, WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE TO GAMES LIKE THIS? WELL, PEOPLE ARE DRAWN TO GAMES LIKE THIS, ESPECIALLY WITH THAT ANTICIPATION, THE EXCITEMENT THAT WHAT IF FEELING WHAT IF I’M THAT ONE PERSON WHO WINS? EVEN IF THE ODDS OF WINNING ARE ASTRONOMICALLY LOW. BUT GAMES LIKE POWERBALL, THEY ACTUALLY ACTIVATE OUR BRAIN’S REWARD PATHWAY THROUGH THROUGH ACTIVATION OF A NEUROTRANSMITTER CALLED DOPAMINE. SO THAT’S ACTUALLY PART OF OUR PLEASURE AND REWARD SYSTEM. AND SO I THINK IT REINFORCES THINGS LIKE GAMBLING THAT THAT ADDICTION THAT CAN COME UP SOMETIMES. AND SO WARNING SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS REALLY ARE, ARE MORE RELATED TO THAT NEED OR DESIRE TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT YOU’RE EXPENDING. THAT FEELING OF IRRITABILITY OR RESTLESSNESS WHEN CUTTING BACK, BEING UNABLE TO STOP DESPITE WANTING TO CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT GAMBLING, CHASING LOSSES, OR EVEN LYING ABOUT GAMBLING SO THAT WHEN THEY’RE STARTING TO, YOU KNOW, HAVE IMPACTS ON RELATIONSHIPS OR WORK, THAT’S WHEN WHEN THOSE BEHAVIORS BECOME VERY CONCERNING. IT’S IT’S ALSO FUN. OF COURSE IT CAN BE A THRILLING FEELING. PARTICIPATION. AND IN SOME OF THESE THESE TYPES OF GAMES CAN BRING THAT SENSE OF EXCITEMENT AND HOPE. ALSO JOINING SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES OTHER FOLKS AT WORK, FOR EXAMPLE, OR FRIENDS, FAMILY, IT CAN BE A SOCIAL ACTIVITY TOO. YEAH, I KNOW THERE’S A POOL GOING AROUND HERE IN THE NEWSROOM, SO IT CAN BE, BUT YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO BE MINDFUL OF THOSE SIGNS YOU MENTIONED. DOCTOR RADHAKRISHNAN, WE

  • Winning numbers announced for estimated $700 million Powerball jackpot

    [ad_1]

The winning numbers for one of the largest Powerball jackpots this year were announced Saturday night. They were 11, 14, 34, 47, 51, with a Powerball of 18.

It was not immediately announced if any winning jackpot tickets were sold.

The Powerball jackpot soared to an estimated $700 million, making it the eleventh-largest jackpot in Powerball game history. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $316 million, Powerball said.

There was no winner in Monday or Wednesday night’s drawings.

A single winner Saturday would have the choice of taking a lump sum payment of $316 million before taxes, or going with the $700 million annuity option, which consists of one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% per year.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, when a single ticket in California won a $204.5 million jackpot with a cash value of $91.6 million.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 292 million, according to Powerball. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern time.

In 2022, a single ticket sold in Altadena, California, claimed a $2.04 billion jackpot, the largest in both Powerball and lottery history. The first Powerball drawing was in 1992.

Powerball tickets are $2 each. They are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Georgia Powerball ticket hits $478 million jackpot for first winner in the state since 2016

Georgia Powerball ticket hits $478 million jackpot for first winner in the state since 2016

    [ad_1]

Wednesday’s winning Powerball ticket was sold in Georgia at a convenience store — netting the lucky buyer a $478 million jackpot,  the state lottery said

Purchased at a Quick Mart in Buford, the six matching numbers earned the ticket holder the largest winnings in the state’s history, according to Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin. The winning numbers for the Wednesday, Oct. 23, Powerball drawing were: 2, 15, 27, 29 and 39 and the Powerball was 20.

Powerball said on its website that 616,153 tickets sold nationwide won prizes in Wednesday night’s drawing. Two tickets, one sold in Pennsylvania and the other in Texas, matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes.

The jackpot winner can take either the $478.2 million doled out in annual payments or a lump sum payment of $230.6 million, both before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments.

This was the first jackpot winner in the state since 2016, when couple William and Heather ten Broeke purchased a $246.8 million winning ticket. They opted to take the cash payout, which totaled $165,613,511 before taxes.

Where was the winning Powerball ticket sold in Georgia?

The winning ticket was sold at Quick Mart, located at 2155 Buford Dam Road in Buford, Georgia. Retailers who sell the jackpot-winning ticket earn a $50,000 retailer incentive bonus payment, the lottery said.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states. Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska and Alabama do not participate in the game for a mix of reasons, including objections from conservatives, concerns about the impact on low-income families and a desire not to compete with existing gaming operations. Tickets cost $2.

Players can either pick their numbers or let a computer randomly generate them. One expert told CBS News it’s better to use the random ticket number generators because those machines might better match what the Powerball drawing could do.

Even so, the chances of winning the jackpot are very slim. According to Powerball, the overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, but the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

To put that in context, a Powerball player is more likely to be attacked by a grizzly bear at Yellowstone National Park — about 1 in 2.7 million, according to the National Park Service — or find a blue lobster in the ocean (1 in 2 million).

Do we know who won the Powerball jackpot?

The Georgia lottery has not yet announced if the owner of the winning ticket has claimed their prize. Winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes. When the winner does come forward, we still may not know their identity, as people who win large jackpots in Georgia have the option to collect their winnings anonymously.

Once the winner claims their ticket, it will be the highest single payout in Georgia Lottery history, officials said. This jackpot surpasses the previous record held by a Mega Millions winner from Stone Mountain, who claimed half of a $648 million jackpot and was awarded a cash option of over $173 million, before taxes.

Where and when was the previous Powerball jackpot won?

The Powerball jackpot has been won eight times this year, with the most recent winning ticket prior to Wednesday’s drawing being sold in California on August 19, 2024, for a $44.3 million jackpot.

The largest payout in Powerball history was in California for a $2.04 billion prize in 2022. In 2016, three winners from California, Florida, and Tennessee split a $1.586 billion prize.

The other winners in 2024 were:

Winner! $1.1 million Powerball ticket sold in Northern California

A lucky lottery player in Northern California is holding a winning Powerball ticket worth more than $1.1 million after matching the first five numbers in Saturday’s draw, according to the California Lottery.

The 5/5 ticket was bought at Romey’s Liquor Store, 3 Purity Plaza in Woodland, just outside Sacramento and is good for $1,176,502 before taxes, the lottery said.

The winning numbers in Saturday night’s $69 million Powerball draw were 4-34-35-38-69 and the Powerball 19.

No jackpot tickets were sold in the multi-state game Saturday, so the pot for Monday’s Powerball draw jumps to an estimated $80 million, the lottery said.

Meanwhile, the Mega Millions jackpot has reached an estimated $681 million. The next draw in that multi-state game takes place Tuesday night.

  • Powerball Jackpot Soars to $201M for Upcoming Drawing

Powerball Jackpot Soars to $201M for Upcoming Drawing

    [ad_1]

An estimated $185 million was the grand prize from America’s popular lottery game, Powerball, on Wednesday. The jackpot had a cash option which would be $92 million. However, despite the attempts of millions of lottery players across the country, nobody matched all winning numbers from the recent draw to secure the grand prize.

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing saw winning numbers 6, 19, 35, 47, 57 along with the Red Powerball number 9. As noted, nobody matched all winning numbers which is why the jackpot survived. What’s more, no player was lucky enough to match five winning numbers to secure $1 million or more.

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024. The survival of the grand prize enabled it to continue growing, surpassing the mind-blowing sum of $200 million. To be precise, the estimated Powerball grand prize for the upcoming drawing is $201 million.

Just like with other multi-million-dollar lottery prizes, to collect the full sum, the fortunate player needs to pick an annuity option. This would award them an initial payment followed by 29 annual payments with a 5% increase per year.

On the other hand, a lump cash sum is also an option. If a player matches all winning numbers on the upcoming drawing and they select a lump cash sum, they will be collecting an estimated $100 million. Yes, undoubtedly that’s far from the mind-boggling $201 million, but it is still a life-changing jackpot.

With less than two days remaining until the next Powerball drawing, undoubtedly millions of Americans will try their luck in hope of securing the hefty jackpot. Still, knowing the odds is important. Winning the Powerball jackpot has odds of 1 in 292.2 million, while the game’s overall odds are 1 in 24.9.

    Many Players Won Lower-Tier Prizes

While the grand prize survived the recent drawing, a dozen players secured mouth-wagering payouts. Eight lucky Powerball players matched four white balls along with the red Powerball to secure a prize of $50,000 each. Another three made the same correct prediction but paid extra for the game’s Power Play option which resulted in them collecting a $150,000 prize each.

On the other hand, matching four winning numbers granted 164 players a prize of $100 each. Another 69 players who entered Wednesday’s draw with the Power Play option secured a prize of $300 each.

More than 264,000 Powerball players won a prize from the game’s lowest tier. All those lottery players won $4 each.

Winner in Ohio Scoops up $140 Million Powerball Jackpot

    [ad_1]

Powerball players across the United States will now play for a jackpot of only $20 million on Saturday after one lucky player scooped up the grand prize which was nearly $140 million. There was a single ticket that matched all winning numbers from the draw on Wednesday.

The ticket was sold in Ohio and its owner became $139.3 million richer after scoring the grand prize from the popular American lottery game. To win the Powerball jackpot, the winner guessed correctly all white balls 2, 26, 33, 55, 57, along with the red Powerball 22 on the draw from July 3.

To collect the $139.3 million jackpot, the winner needs to select an annuity option which includes an immediate payment followed by 29 annual installment payments.

Luckily, there’s also an option that would grant the winner a lump cash sum. In this case, the sum would be $66.5 million. Undoubtedly, $66 million isn’t anywhere near the astronomical sum of $140 million, but it is a life-changing prize that the player can secure instantly rather than wait for three decades.

The latest grand prize win marks the fifth Powerball jackpot of the year. Before the win on July 3, a lucky winner from New Jersey hit $222.6 million from the draw on June 10 this year.

More Lottery Players Secure Powerball Prizes

Besides the grand prize, the latest drawing saw three lucky winners secure $1 million each for matching five winning numbers. Details released by Powerball reveal that one of the winners was from Pennsylvania, while two tickets were purchased in California.

Regretfully, nobody was able to win a $2 million Power Play prize.

On the bright side, five people won $50,000 each for matching four winning white balls along with the red Powerball, while 174 people won $100 each for matching four numbers from the latest drawing. Another 51 players took home a $200 Power Play prize each.

Overall, the drawing saw a total of 388,650 winning tickets across the country. The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, July 6.

  • Lucky Ticket in Florida Hits $214.9M Powerball Jackpot

Lucky Ticket in Florida Hits $214.9M Powerball Jackpot

    [ad_1]

Across the United States, more than 385,000 people won prizes by participating in the latest Powerball drawing. While many were after the mouth-watering jackpot that surpassed $200 million, only one incredibly lucky lottery player was able to guess correctly all winning numbers from the latest draw. One person from Florida guessed correctly all white balls 7, 23, 24, 56, 60 and red Powerball 25, to secure the whopping $214.9 million Powerball jackpot from Monday’s drawing.

The latest jackpot represented the third grand prize win for the year so far. Before the $214.9 million jackpot was won, exactly one month ago, on April 6, a lucky player from Oregon secured the mind-blowing $1.3 billion jackpot at the time.

The latest $214.9 million Powerball jackpot represents an annuitized prize. This means that the lucky winner can collect an initial payment followed by 29 annual installment payments together with a 5% yearly interest. Alternatively, the lottery player can also collect a lump cash sum, which would be $100.1 million, a far cry from the total which is nearly $215 million but still completely life-changing.

Still, it’s important to note that both sums are before the applicable taxes.

Only One Million-Dollar Second Tier Prize Was Won from the Latest Draw

Known as America’s favorite lottery, Powerball is played in 45 states and jurisdictions, including the US Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The lottery game’s odds of winning a jackpot prize are 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds are 1 in 24.9.

From the latest Powerball drawing, one person missed the grand prize and guessed all winning numbers drawn with the exception of the red Powerball. Still, the lucky player from Idaho, secured a hefty prize, considering they paid an extra dollar and secured a $2 million Power Play prize.

Across the US, six tickets won a $50,000 prize each, while seven tickets secured a $100,000 Power Play prize each. Overall, there were 385,220 winning tickets from Monday’s Powerball drawing.

In light of the recent jackpot win, the grand prize from Powerball was now reset to $20 million with a cash option of $9.3 million. The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Recently, a lottery player nearly missed the coveted $284 million jackpot from Mega Millions. While the lucky player from South Dakota missed the game’s grand prize, he was able to collect $1 million instead.

  • Winners of $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot revealed

Winners of $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot revealed

    [ad_1]

One of the winners of a $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot last month is an immigrant from Laos who has had cancer for eight years and had his latest chemotherapy treatment last week.

Cheng “Charlie” Saephan, 46, of Portland, told a news conference held by the Oregon Lottery on Monday that he and his 37-year-old wife, Duanpen, would split the prize evenly with a friend. Laiza Chao, 55, of the Portland suburb of Milwaukie, had chipped in $100 to buy a batch of tickets with them. They are taking a lump sum payment, $422 million after taxes.

“I will be able to provide for my family and my health,” he said, adding that he’d “find a good doctor for myself.”

Saephan, who has two young children, said that as a cancer patient, he wondered, “How am I going to have time to spend all of this money? How long will I live?”

After they bought the shared tickets, Chao sent a photo of the tickets to Saephan and said, “We’re billionaires.” It was a joke before the actual drawing, he said, but the next day it came true.

Saephan said he was born in Laos and moved to Thailand in 1987, before immigrating to the U.S. in 1994. He wore a sash at the news conference identifying himself as Iu Mien, a southeast Asian ethnic group with roots in southern China. Many Iu Mein were subsistence farmers and assisted American forces during the Vietnam war; after the conflict, thousands of Iu Mien families fled to Thailand to avoid retribution and eventually settled in the U.S., especially along the West Coast.

Saephan graduated from high school in 1996 and has lived in Portland for 30 years. He worked as a machinist for an aerospace company.

In the weeks leading up to the drawing, he wrote out numbers for the game on a piece of paper and slept with it under his pillow, he said. He prayed that he would win, saying, “I need some help — I don’t want to die yet unless I have done something for my family first.”

The winning Powerball ticket was sold in early April at a Plaid Pantry convenience store in Portland, ending a winless streak that had stretched more than three months. The Oregon Lottery said it had to go through a security and vetting process before announcing the identity of the person who came forward to claim the prize.

“The lesson didn’t really go according to plan.” Math professor Nicholas Kapoor bought a Powerball ticket to demonstrate how improbable it is to win the lottery – and then he won $100,000. Here’s what he wants you to know about playing the Powerball.

Under Oregon law, with few exceptions, lottery players cannot remain anonymous. Winners have a year to claim the top prize.

The jackpot had a cash value of $621 million before taxes if the winner chose to take a lump sum rather than an annuity paid over 30 years, with an immediate payout followed by 29 annual installments. The prize is subject to federal taxes and state taxes in Oregon.

The $1.3 billion prize is the fourth largest Powerball jackpot in history, and the eighth largest among U.S. jackpot games, according to the Oregon Lottery.

The biggest U.S. lottery jackpot won was $2.04 billion in California in 2022.

  • Powerball Jackpot Surpasses $160M for Upcoming Drawing

Powerball Jackpot Surpasses $160M for Upcoming Drawing

    [ad_1]

Saturday marked the latest drawing of Powerball, America’s popular lottery game. While undoubtedly many participated in the latest draw with hopes of securing the game’s grand prize, the Powerball jackpot survived the draw. Nobody guessed correctly the winning white balls 9, 30, 53, 55 and 62 along with the red Powerball 23 from the lottery game’s drawing over the weekend. As a result, the grand prize from the lottery game surpassed the staggering $150 million.

Ahead of the upcoming drawing, the grand prize from the lottery game is estimated at $164 million. This is the case considering that the player selects annual installment payments. A lump cash sum is also an option, provided that a lucky winner guesses correctly all winning numbers from the upcoming drawing. In case this happens, and they are interested in a lump cash sum, the grand prize would be decreased to $74.9 million, a sum far below the mind-blowing $164 million but still life-changing.

While nobody won the grand prize from Powerball’s most recent drawing, two players came really close. One lucky player from Georgia and one from New Jersey secured a $1 million prize each for guessing all white balls from the latest drawing. The two only missed the red Powerball which would’ve granted them the game’s jackpot.

On the other hand, nine players secured a $50,000 prize each for guessing correctly the four white balls together with the red Powerball. Two other players guessed the same number of winning balls but got home with a hefty $150,000 prize each.

The upcoming Powerball drawing is scheduled for Monday, April 29, 2024, or less than 12 hours from the time of writing.

Mega Millions Jackpot on the Rise, Again

Late last month, a life-changing jackpot of the staggering $1.13 billion from Mega Millions was won in New Jersey. A month later, the grand prize from the lottery game has been growing and after surviving the draw on Friday, it is estimated at $257 million for the next drawing planned for Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Similarly to Powerball, the bigger jackpot estimate applies if annual installments are selected. If a player wins the Mega Millions jackpot on the upcoming drawing and selects a cash option, they will be able to collect a whopping $115.6 million. Unlike Powerball, the latest Mega Millions drawing saw no one secure a million-dollar prize.

  • Minnesota Sees Back-to-Back Lotto America Jackpot Wins

Minnesota Sees Back-to-Back Lotto America Jackpot Wins

    [ad_1]

Lotto America, one of the popular lottery games that are a part of Powerball, announced its latest jackpot winner. Earlier this week, a lucky lottery player from Minnesota hit the game’s jackpot by guessing correctly all six numbers drawn on Wednesday. To win the grand prize, the player guessed correctly all red balls: 7, 12, 17, 22 and 52, along with blue Star Ball 3, granting him the game’s jackpot, a whopping $3.11 million.

The aforementioned $3.11 million represents annual installment payments for a period of 29 years. In case the winner selects a lump cash sum, the jackpot would be decreased to $1.43 million. Still, it is important to mention the two sums are estimated before taxes are applied.

The latest jackpot win marks the second time a Lotto America jackpot has been won in Minnesota since the start of the year. Last month, on March 4, 2024, another jackpot from the popular lottery game was won. At the time, a lucky player secured a $3.73 million win.

Currently, Lotto America is played in 13 US states, including Minnesota, New Mexico, Iowa, Delaware, Tennessee and West Virginia, among others. The price of the draw game is $1 and the overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 9.63. On the other hand, the odds of winning the Lotto America jackpot are 1 in 25.9 million.

Many Jackpots Drop In the Land of 10,000 Lakes

The biggest Lotto America jackpot was won on April 1, 2023, in Iowa. At the time, a lucky lottery player secured the mind-blowing $40.03 million. The second-biggest prize from the popular lottery game dropped back in March 2018 when a player from Minnesota won $22.82 million. A lucky player from Minnesota is also the holder of the third-largest Lotto America jackpot from July 2019 when they won $21.6 million.

In September, a lottery player from Tennessee secured a $9.71 million jackpot from Lotto America, while in December, another player from the same state took home a $3.1 million jackpot.

Considering the most recent win, the Lotto America grand prize is now reset to $2 million. In case a player wins the prize on the next draw, they can secure a cash sum of $920,000. The next drawing of Lotto America is scheduled for Saturday, April 27.
