    • A New Jersey man quickly redeemed his $90 million Mega Millions prize
    • Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $1 billion
    • Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is giving away free Powerball tickets through a marketing promotion

The Mega Millions winner who won a $90 million jackpot during the Dec. 2 drawing didn’t waste much time deliberating how to receive his life-changing funds.

Mega Millions reports that a man walked into a New Jersey Lottery office just days after his ticket matched the winning numbers of 17, 25, 26, 53, 60, and the gold Mega Ball 16.

While the winner wished to remain anonymous, he shared some interesting details about what had preempted his Mega Millions win.

I was up (the night of the drawing). Hoping for something. Then, whomp, a bird hit my window,” the newly minted multimillionaire told lottery officials. “I knew something was coming for me, but I didn’t know just what.”

“I played some of my numbers for Pick-4. Nothing,” the player said, explaining his winless streak prompted him to try his luck on Mega Millions, a jackpot that comes with odds of 1 in 290.47 million.

“I finished work, and I came in and played the Mega and used all of my numbers,” the winner said.

The New Jersey man opted for the one-time cash option of $41.9 million. After federal and state taxes, the payout came to about $24 million.

    Powerball Hits $1 Billion

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $1 billion, with the cash value at $457.7 million. The jackpot ranks as the seventh-largest in Powerball history.

The current Powerball run has endured 41 drawings without a jackpot hit. If the jackpot isn’t won tonight, the run will set a new record for the longest Powerball drought.

The streak also makes history by marking the first back-to-back jackpot of more than $1 billion in any US lottery game’s history.

Portnoy Slings Jackpocket Following Michigan Man Meltdown

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took time out of his Michigan Man meltdown on X to shill Jackpocket, DraftKings’ courier service that allows users to purchase lottery tickets online in 15 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico.

Portnoy, on a quick break from being hysterical about the scandal surrounding Michigan’s former football coach, Sherrone Moore, told his 3.7 million X followers how to get a free Powerball play for tonight’s $1 billion jackpot.

“It’s jackpot season. We teamed up with Jackpocket, the best way to download lottery tickets right on your phone,” Portnoy said. “I’m paying attention, Powerball, Mega Millions, these jackpots are going to the moon.”

  • Lottery jackpots are getting bigger and harder to win. See the data on Powerball and Mega Millions’ top prizes.

    [ad_1]

Lottery jackpots have exploded in size over the last decade.

When Powerball launched in 1992, the first jackpot was $5.9 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. Now, the largest Powerball jackpot on record was the $2.04 billion prize won on Nov. 7, 2022.

Mega Millions followed a similar path. Its first jackpot winner in 2002 took home $28 million. Its record prize — a $1.602 billion jackpot won on Aug. 8, 2023 — ranks as the fourth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

Twelve out of the 20 largest jackpots have occurred since 2023.

Here are the biggest U.S. jackpot wins:

Only five states don’t sell lottery tickets: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

While the prizes are huge, the odds of winning still remain extremely low. Over the last three decades, both games have been redesigned multiple times. Changes have pushed jackpots higher while also adding more ways for players to win smaller prizes.

Powerball players choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. In 2015, Powerball increased its number of white balls from 59 to 69 and its number of red balls decreased from 35 to 26.

Before the change, the odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 175.2 million and the overall odds of winning any prize were 1 in 31.85. After the redesign, the jackpot odds became steeper, 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning a prize improved to 1 in 24.9, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

    Powerball odds (Table)

Mega Millions requires players to pick five different numbers from one to 70 and one Mega Ball number from one to 24. A ticket wins the jackpot by matching all six numbers in a drawing.

In 2025, Mega Millions changed its games to a larger starting jackpot ($50 million vs. $20 million), which “improved odds to win the jackpot and improved overall odds,” according to Dan Miller, a spokesperson for Mega Millions.

“Everyone who wins is winning more because of the embedded multiplier in the new game that takes all non-jackpot prizes and multiplies them by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X,” Miller said in an email. Through Friday, Dec. 5, he said, “there have been 70 drawings in the new game. In that time, players have won $531 million in non-jackpot prizes. In the old game, those same prizes would have been valued at $119.8 million. That’s a 343% increase in player winnings.”

For example, under the old rules, matching just the Mega Ball was a break-even outcome: a $2 ticket earned a $2 prize. Under the new game, that same match now comes with a built-in multiplier. The minimum prize is $5, which is then multiplied — meaning a player can now win $10, $15, $20, $25 or even $50 instead of just $2.

The odds to win the jackpot improved from 1 in 302.6 million to 1 in 290.5 million. This is because of Mega Millions removing the one gold Mega Ball from the game, Miller said.

    Mega Millions odds (Table)

The new game has 24 Mega Balls instead of 25, which improves the odds of picking the right combinations of numbers to win the jackpot. The overall odds to win any prize went from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23.

There’s more money in play as well: Powerball increased the price of a ticket from $1 to $2 in 2012. Mega Millions increased its ticket prices from $1 to $2 in 2017 and from $2 to $5 in April of this year.

  • $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Sherburn has yet to be claimed

    [ad_1]

A Minnesota Lottery player won $1 million after a Powerball drawing in late October, state lottery officials said.

The winning ticket has yet to be claimed. The winning numbers for the Oct. 25 drawing were 2, 12, 22, 39, 67 and the Powerball number was 15. The power play multiplier was 2.

The ticket was sold at Casey’s General Store in Sherburn, Minnesota. The business will earn a $5,000 bonus.

The winner must claim their prize at the Minnesota Lottery headquarters in Roseville within a year of the drawing date.

In last year’s general election, Minnesotans voted overwhelmingly in favor of maintaining the policy of placing 40% of all Minnesota Lottery proceeds into the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund. In January, it was announced $1.2 million of those funds would go to the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine for avian influenza research.

  • McDonald’s Monopoly Is ‘200 TIMES HARDER’ To Win Than The Mega Millions Lottery, Per Bombshell Report! – Perez Hilton

    [ad_1]

Do not pass GO and definitely do not collect $200 — because you WON’T be winning anything that valuable, according to this bombshell report!

McDonald’s finally brought back their famous Monopoly game, much to the excitement of fans — only this time with an online twist! But is it a total scam? According to lottery expert Jared James, you’d have better odds at winning the Powerball…

In case you don’t know about McDonald’s Monopoly, the game is to peel stickers off of different food and drink items from the restaurant. Those stickers are supposed to be able to get you all kinds of prizes — from free French fries to even cars and vacations! It was a huge deal in the ’90s and ’00s before being retired in 2014. But now it’s come back again and Jared tells The US Sun it’s tougher than ever.

Related: Kevin Federline Complains About Britney Spears’ $40K Monthly Checks!

According to the LottoEdge.com founder, the official odds for winning a food item (such as an apple pie) is about one in 25. Easy peezy, but that’s a prize worth pennies. The big prizes are where it gets tough:

“The company prints billions of game pieces but only releases a handful of the key winning ones – making those big prizes astronomically rare.”

How rare? Well, when we think of the MegaMillions lotto or the Powerball, we’re looking at odds of around one in 291 million. Pretty unlikely! But compared to McDonald’s Monopoly’s top prize — a trip for four to a destination of the winner’s choice? The actual lottery is a breeze:

“The top Monopoly prize has odds over one in 60 billion, making it 200 times tougher than hitting the Mega Millions jackpot.”

One in 60 billion… Yes, BILLION with a “B”… OMG!

The next top prizes also have billions-to-one odds, with American Airlines miles being odds of one in 13.2 billion. The odds of you driving off in a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee are one in 13.1 billion. Wild! That’s more disappointing than playing actual Monopoly! LOLz!

As one Reddit user pointed out… These odds are so slim, the corporation will likely never have to pay up and give someone the prize! So these big jackpot wins are just feeling like empty promises to players. At least every once in a while someone wins the lottery, right?! And that’s for enough money to buy a fleet of Jeeps! Not to mention a gazillion apple pies…

  • $2B Powerball Winner Vows to Rebuild Fire-Ravaged Hometown

    • Lottery billionaire pledges to rebuild fire-ravaged Altadena community
    • UCLA study reveals severe racial impact of Eaton Fire
    • Local reactions mixed as Castro buys scorched neighborhood lots

Powerball’s $2 billion winner Edwin Castro has pledged to rebuild his hometown of Altadena in Los Angeles County, Calif., much of which was destroyed by wildfire in January.

Powerball, Edwin Castro, Altadena, Eaton Fire, wildfire recovery
Edwin Castro, above, gave his first interview since his 2 billion lottery win to the WSJ as he pledged to restore properties in his hometown, Altadena, Calif. (Image: Fontoura)

The world’s richest lottery winner is one of the biggest buyers of scorched lots in the town, which are being purchased by investors from residents who have chosen to sell up rather than rebuild.

Castro bought his winning lottery ticket in 2022 for $10 from a gas station, Joe’s Service Center, on the corner of Fair Oaks Avenue and Woodbury Road in Altadena. The fire burned more than 100 homes in Fair Oaks Avenue but spared Joe’s, prompting The New York Times to describe it as “the luckiest gas station in America.”

    Devastating Fire

Many others were not lucky. The Eaton fire broke out on the evening of January 7, 2025, in Eaton Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains. Fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds, it swept down into the foothill communities, hitting Altadena especially hard.

Some 48% of Black households and around 37% of non-Black households were destroyed, according to a UCLA study. That suggests that around 39% of all households were wiped out – devastating for a community of around 43K people.

In total, 31 people died in the numerous California wildfires of January 2025, at least two in Altadena.

I want it to feel like the old neighborhood,” Castro told The Wall Street Journal in his first words to the media since his gargantuan windfall. “Like if you put all those houses pre-fire in a time bubble.”

Castro is looking to build homes for families who want to settle in Altadena, rather than those wanting to rent them out. But he emphasized that he was also looking to make a few bucks from the venture.

“The profit margin doesn’t have to be egregious. But I’m not building these homes just to give them away,” he told WSJ, adding that they might take ten years to build.

    Man of Mystery

Castro, who lost a $3 million Malibu mansion to the California fires, has largely been an enigma since his win, but he revealed some details about himself this week to WSJ.

He said he grew up in a middle-class family, and his father was in construction. He was a Boy Scout who spent his childhood going on fishing trips, fixing up old cards, and obsessing about Pokémon and Dungeons & Dragons.

He was renting his home when he won big and working as a private architecture consultant. He is single and wants kids “like yesterday.”

But not everyone is convinced by Castro’s pitch. One resident, whose house was damaged by smoke, complained to WSJ that he was “just another person trying to get some profit.”

  • Powerball players win $1 million in Illinois. Where were the lucky tickets sold?

    [ad_1]

Two Powerball tickets sold in Illinois won $1 million each, just missing the $244 million jackpot, lottery officials say.

The tickets matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, Oct. 11, the Illinois Lottery said.

The winning numbers were 13, 16, 18, 20 and 27 with a Powerball of 10. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

    Powerball jackpot rises

Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $258 million, with a cash value of about $120.8 million, for the next drawing Monday, Oct. 13, the national Powerball site said.

Nearly 625,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.

The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

    What to know about Powerball

To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.

  • Jefferson City Powerball winner to spend $50,000 prize on his wedding

    [ad_1]

Hitting the lottery helped one engaged Missouri couple with their big day.

As lottery players across the country wait to find out the winners of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot, one person who won some cool cash already cashed in — with plans on how to spend it.

On Sept. 6, a Missourian and Texan managed to match all five numbers plus the red Powerball number to win the nation’s second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

While the two main ticketholders have yet to publicly come forward, a secondary winner from the Show Me State claimed his $50,000 prize from the same drawing.

More: Where was the winning Powerball jackpot ticket sold? Will we know who won?

Here’s what we know about the Missouri winner(s) of the $1.787 billion Powerball.

Who won $1.787 billion Powerball drawing in September 2025?

Two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing and will split the $1.787 billion jackpot.

Where were $1.787 billion Powerball lottery jackpot tickets sold?

According to the Missouri Lottery, the winning Missouri ticket was sold at a QuikTrip gas station at 12110 Lusher Road in St. Louis.

The other winning ticket was bought at a Big’s convenience store at 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290 in Fredericksburg, Texas, according to the Texas Lottery.

Missouri Lottery winner from Jefferson City says he’ll spend Powerball prize money on his wedding

Although it wasn’t the ultimate jackpot prize, a man from Missouri’s Cole County still managed to win $50,000 off a ticket purchased for the Sept. 6 drawing.

It wasn’t until the morning after the draw that he and his fiancée discovered his ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the red Powerball number, according to a news release.

“She was reading them off and my eyes started to light up a little. I didn’t believe I won that much,” the man told the Missouri Lottery. “I took the ticket to two different gas stations to check it. The clerk said, ‘Yeah, man. You won 50 grand!’”

The winner said he plans to use some of his winnings toward their wedding.

The ticket was purchased at a Cenex gas station at 807 Stadium Blvd. in Jefferson City, according to the Missouri Lottery. Two other Missouri Lottery players also won $50,000 in the drawing, but no word yet on if they’ve claimed their prize.

Will we know who Missouri Powerball’s jackpot winner is?

Lottery winners in Missouri can claim their prize while remaining anonymous to the public, in accordance with a 2021 state law. It’s also illegal to publish the names of lottery winners unless said winners provide written consent to the Missouri Lottery.

Jackpot winners have 180 days from the last winning draw date on their ticket to claim their winnings.

How much will Powerball jackpot winners get?

As there were two winners this time around, the $1.787 billion prize will be split between them.

The Missouri winner has the option of either an annuitized prize of $893.5 million before taxes or a lump sum payment of $410.3 million before taxes, according to Powerball.

The Texas lottery player chose the cash value and will receive $410.3 million before taxes. Texas players must choose the cash value option or annual payments when they buy tickets, per Texas Lottery policy.

More: Who’s the largest jackpot winner in Missouri history? A look back at previous winners

How much do Missouri lottery winners have to pay in taxes?

Missouri Lottery rules state all lottery winnings are subject to federal and state taxes. The state lottery organization is required to withhold 4% in state tax for prizes above $600, along with 24% in federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Winners may also owe additional taxes or they may receive a refund depending on their personal income.

  • After $1.8 billion Powerball, what we know about Texas winner who bought ticket from Big 103’s

    [ad_1]

Who won the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot?

Lottery fever may be dying down, but the curiosity to find out who holds the golden ticket(s) in Texas and Missouri is alive and well.

Almost one week after the nation’s second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history dominated social media feeds and online news, the respective lottery headquarters in Austin, Texas, and Jefferson City, Missouri, are preparing for the vetting process − pending whether the winners have already come forward. In addition to the $1.787 billion prize, three second-tier Powerball winning tickets were sold in the Lone Star State: A winning ticket worth $2 million was sold in Tyler, Texas, and two tickets worth $1 million each were purchased in Austin, Texas, and Midlothian, Texas.

Who won billion-dollar jackpots for Powerball, Mega Millions? Photos show Publix, Kroger, other stores that sold winning tickets

On Sept. 6, 2025, the Powerball lottery streak that lasted through the summer ended when a pair of tickets matched all five numbers plus the Powerball to win almost $1.8 billion. Below is information about the historic $1.787 billion Powerball − the 13th time in U.S. history a lottery jackpot reached and surpassed $1 billion − who won and the deadline to claim their winnings.

Here’s what we know about the Texas winner(s) of the $1.8 billion Powerball.

Two tickets sold in Texas and Missouri matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Sept. 6, 2025, Powerball drawing and will split the $1.787 billion lottery jackpot.

As of Friday, Sept. 12, nearly a week after the historic drawing, no one has come forward from either state to claim the $1.8 billion Powerball prize.

Where were $1.8 billion Powerball lottery jackpot tickets sold?

The $1.8 billion Powerball winners from the Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, Powerball lottery drawing bought their winning ticket at:

    • Big’s 103 gas station and convenience store, 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290, Fredericksburg, Texas, which is eligible to receive a $250,000 retailer bonus, according to the Texas Lottery

    • QuikTrip gas station and convenience store, 12110 Lusher Road, St. Louis, Missouri

What were winning numbers from $1.8 billion Powerball drawing on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025?

The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, were 11-23-44-61-62 and the Powerball was 17.

How much will $1.8 billion Powerball lottery winners get?

The ticketholders who bought their winning ticket from the Big’s 103 gas station and convenience store in Fredericksburg, Texas, and QuikTrip in St. Louis, Missouri, have two options to choose from for their shared $1.787 billion Powerball prize, according to the Texas Lottery and Missouri Lottery:

    • receive the $1.787 billion Powerball lottery prize in one lump-sum payment of $410.3 million, before taxes

    • receive the full amount of $893.5 million in 30 graduated annuity payments, before taxes

How long does $1.787 billion Powerball winner have to claim? Deadline for $1.8 billion Powerball lump sum

Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpot winners have 180 days (six months) from the date of the drawing (Sept. 6, 2025) to claim their prize. In this case, the winners have until March 5, 2025, to decide what to do with their share of the $1.787 billion Powerball lottery jackpot, the second-largest in U.S. history. The winners must claim their prizes in person at lottery headquarters − Texas Lottery headquarters in Austin, Texas, and Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Neither ticketholders have come forward almost a week after the $1.8 billion Powerball lottery drawing, but the process to vet a winner takes time, anywhere from weeks to more than a month.

Does anyone in Texas ever win the Powerball jackpot?

The $1.787 billion Powerball, the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history and the 13th time a Mega Millions or Powerball lottery reached $1 billion, marks the first time the state of Texas made the “billion-dollar lottery prize winners” list. It is the largest prize involving a Texas Lottery player.

How much will $1.787 billion Powerball winner have to pay in taxes? How much of a prize is taken out for taxes?

According to Texas Lottery rules, the winnings are subject to federal income tax withholding (winnings greater than $5,000). The tax withholding rate is 24% for lottery winnings, less the wager, for prizes greater than $5,000.

Missouri Lottery rules state all lottery winnings are subject to federal and state taxes, and the Missouri Lottery organization is “required to withhold 4% Missouri state tax on prizes of $600.01 or more, along with 24% federal tax for prizes of more than $5,000. Winners may owe additional taxes for the prize or they may receive a refund, depending on personal income.”

The winners of the $1.787 billion Powerball lottery jackpot from Sept. 6, 2025, will receive a one lump-sum payment of $410.3 million, before taxes, or the full amount of $893.5 million in 30 graduated annuity payments, before taxes.

Can a Texas Lottery player opt for a one-time lump sum or annual payments after the $1.787 billion Powerball drawing on Sept. 6, 2025?

According to a Texas Lottery FAQ post, Texas Lottery draw game players (which include Powerball and Mega Millions) must choose the cash value option or annual payments when they buy tickets. They cannot choose when it’s time to collect the jackpot: “Currently, the choice must be made at the time the ticket is purchased, and cannot be changed. This is a Texas Lottery policy established in response to IRS rulings that impact the way the jackpot is taxed,” texaslottery.com states.

Can I play Powerball, Mega Millions and Texas Lottery draw games as part of a group?

Yes, players may play Texas Lottery draw games (which include Powerball and Mega Millions) as a group, though only one individual or legal entity may claim a jackpot prize.

In a group of players, can more than one person claim a prize on the same ticket?

No. Texas Lottery rules state the lottery will pay only one claimant per ticket, and a “claimant” can be an individual, a trust, a partnership, a corporation, or any other legal entity.

Can $1.8 billion Powerball winner from Texas remain anonymous?

In Texas, Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpot winners can remain anonymous, however, where the winning ticket was purchased is public record.
