  • Powerball ticket purchased at Charlotte Harris Teeter wins six-digit prize

    Three people in North Carolina won $150,000 prizes in the Saturday, Dec. 20, Powerball drawing and one of them got their $3 ticket at a Harris Teeter in Charlotte, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

    It was purchased at Harris Teeter #88 at 13000 South Tryon Street, lottery officials said in a social media post. That is in Steelecroft Shopping Center, at the intersection of South Tryon and Steele Creek Road.

    The two other $150,000-winning tickets were sold at Gates Food Mart in Gatesville and at the 7 Eleven on Caratoke Highway in Moyock, lottery officials said.

    Another Powerball ticket sold in Charlotte won $50,000 in Saturday’s drawing, officials said. Details of where it was purchased were not released.

    “Saturday night marked nine straight Powerball drawings with North Carolinians winning prizes of at least $50,000 and seven straight with at least a $100,000 winner,” N.C. lottery officials said in a news release.

    The winning numbers Dec. 20 were: 4, 5, 28, 52, 69, 20.

    No one got the grand prize, which has climbed to $1.6 billion. Odds of winning it are 1 in 292,201,338.00, according to Powerball officials.

    “If you won, you could claim the jackpot as $1.6 billion annuity or $735.3 million in cash. You would win the fourth largest Powerball jackpot and fifth largest among U.S. lottery jackpots,” N.C. lottery officials said.

  • Powerball players win millions across the US. Where were the lucky tickets sold?

    Powerball tickets sold in Florida, Illinois, New York and Washington won $1 million each, just missing the $160 million jackpot, lottery officials say.

    The tickets matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Monday, Sept. 29, the national Powerball site said.

    The winning numbers were 1, 3, 27, 60 and 65 with a Powerball of 16. The Power Play multiplier was 5x.

    Powerball jackpot grows

    Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $174 million, with a cash value of about $80.7 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, Oct. 1, the national Powerball site said.

    Nearly 330,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $250,000, the lottery said.

    The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

    What to know about Powerball

    To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

    The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

    Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

    Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

    Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    Hitting the lottery helped one engaged Missouri couple with their big day.

    As lottery players across the country wait to find out the winners of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot, one person who won some cool cash already cashed in — with plans on how to spend it.

    On Sept. 6, a Missourian and Texan managed to match all five numbers plus the red Powerball number to win the nation’s second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

    While the two main ticketholders have yet to publicly come forward, a secondary winner from the Show Me State claimed his $50,000 prize from the same drawing.

    Here’s what we know about the Missouri winner(s) of the $1.787 billion Powerball.

    Who won $1.787 billion Powerball drawing in September 2025?

    Two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing and will split the $1.787 billion jackpot.

    Where were $1.787 billion Powerball lottery jackpot tickets sold?

    According to the Missouri Lottery, the winning Missouri ticket was sold at a QuikTrip gas station at 12110 Lusher Road in St. Louis.

    The other winning ticket was bought at a Big’s convenience store at 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290 in Fredericksburg, Texas, according to the Texas Lottery.

    Although it wasn’t the ultimate jackpot prize, a man from Missouri’s Cole County still managed to win $50,000 off a ticket purchased for the Sept. 6 drawing.

    It wasn’t until the morning after the draw that he and his fiancée discovered his ticket matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the red Powerball number, according to a news release.

    “She was reading them off and my eyes started to light up a little. I didn’t believe I won that much,” the man told the Missouri Lottery. “I took the ticket to two different gas stations to check it. The clerk said, ‘Yeah, man. You won 50 grand!’”

    The winner said he plans to use some of his winnings toward their wedding.

    The ticket was purchased at a Cenex gas station at 807 Stadium Blvd. in Jefferson City, according to the Missouri Lottery. Two other Missouri Lottery players also won $50,000 in the drawing, but no word yet on if they’ve claimed their prize.

    Will we know who Missouri Powerball’s jackpot winner is?

    Lottery winners in Missouri can claim their prize while remaining anonymous to the public, in accordance with a 2021 state law. It’s also illegal to publish the names of lottery winners unless said winners provide written consent to the Missouri Lottery.

    Jackpot winners have 180 days from the last winning draw date on their ticket to claim their winnings.

    How much will Powerball jackpot winners get?

    As there were two winners this time around, the $1.787 billion prize will be split between them.

    The Missouri winner has the option of either an annuitized prize of $893.5 million before taxes or a lump sum payment of $410.3 million before taxes, according to Powerball.

    The Texas lottery player chose the cash value and will receive $410.3 million before taxes. Texas players must choose the cash value option or annual payments when they buy tickets, per Texas Lottery policy.

    According to a Texas Lottery FAQ post, Texas Lottery draw game players (which include Powerball and Mega Millions) must choose the cash value option or annual payments when they buy tickets. They cannot choose when it’s time to collect the jackpot: “Currently, the choice must be made at the time the ticket is purchased, and cannot be changed. This is a Texas Lottery policy established in response to IRS rulings that impact the way the jackpot is taxed,” texaslottery.com states.

    Will a $2 Powerball ticket make you a billionaire? As they say in the lottery business, “it could happen to you.”

    After no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Wednesday, Aug. 27, Powerball drawing, the grand prize jumped $100 million overnight. Ticket sales ahead of the Saturday, Aug. 30, draw pushed the total into record numbers: The Powerball grand prize rose from $750 million with a cash option of $338.6 million on Monday, Aug. 25, to an $850 million grand prize or a cash option of $383.7 million for Wednesday. Then it spiked to $950 million early Thursday, hours after the Aug. 27 drawing. On Friday, Aug. 29, a day before the Aug. 30 drawing, the jackpot rose to a whopping $1 billion. The total is now in the Top 10 biggest Powerball lottery jackpots of all-time (see below).

    The Powerball jackpot for Saturday climbed to $1 billion, with a cash option of $453.1 million.

    The winning Powerball numbers have been drawn for Monday night’s $1 billion lottery jackpot.

    No ticket sold for the drawing matched all six numbers, so the jackpot is growing to at least $1.09 billion for Wednesday night’s drawing.

    Here are the winning numbers for Monday: 19, 24, 40, 42, 56 and the Powerball is 23

    A jackpot winner can choose to receive the money in annual payments or take a lump sum estimated at $483.8 million.

    A Powerball spokesperson said this is only the fifth advertised Powerball jackpot to reach $1 billion. The prize ranks as Powerball’s fifth-largest jackpot overall and the largest advertised jackpot, so far, this year.

    Wednesday’s $1.09 billion could be the fourth-largest Powerball prize ever.

    While the jackpot wasn’t won in the drawing on Saturday, four tickets won $1 million each by matching the first five numbers. Those tickets were sold in Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania, according to the Powerball website.

As jackpots climb to $1 billion or more, sales increase dramatically but still usually cover only about half of the possible combinations.

    Of course, millions or people do win smaller prizes that range from $2 to $2 million. Players of both games have about a 1 in 4 chance of winning some kind of prize.
