  • Portland Police Bureau Arrests Washington County Man On Graffiti Charges – KXL

    PORTLAND, OR – The Portland Police Bureau’s Neighborhood Response Team, working with regional partners, arrested a Washington County man February 19th in connection with a graffiti investigation.

    Willam P. Matthews, 22, of the Cedar Mill area in Washington County, was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center, where he was charged with five counts of first-degree criminal mischief and three counts of second-degree criminal mischief.

    Investigators say, later that day, they served a search warrant on Matthews’ vehicle and attached trailer in Washington County. Officers seized more than 150 cans of spray paint, 14 one-gallon buckets of paint, rollers and brushes, hundreds of custom “Rango” stickers, paint-stained clothing and other graffiti-related materials.

    “Graffiti vandalism has a real impact on our neighborhoods, our small businesses, and the overall sense of community in Portland,” Chief Bob Day said in a statement. “I’m proud of the dedicated work by our Central Precinct officers and investigators who stayed focused on this case. We will continue to prioritize the most significant offenders and work with our community partners to hold people accountable.”

  • Man Shot in North Portland Park, Police Search for Suspect – KXL

    PORTLAND, OR – Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and seriously injured Saturday morning in Northgate Park in north Portland, authorities said.

    According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 8:45 a.m. in the park near North Geneva Avenue south of Fessenden Street.

    According to PPB officers, they arrived to find a man with an apparent gunshot wound and began trauma first aid until an ambulance took him to a hospital. It is believed the injury was serious but not life-threatening, and the man was expected to survive.

    Investigators set up a crime scene and searched the area for a suspect or suspects, but no one had been arrested as of noon, police said. Authorities said any suspect had left the area before officers arrived.

    The bureau’s Enhanced Community Safety Team responded to the scene and is leading the investigation.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Oregon through its website or the P3 Tips app. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest.

  • Arrest Made After Shooting On Portland MAX Train; Victim Hospitalized – KXL

    PORTLAND, OR – Police says a suspect was arrested Friday morning following a shooting aboard a TriMet MAX light rail train that left another man hospitalized, police confirmed.

    The incident was reported in the early hours of Friday when emergency crews responded to calls of gunfire on a moving MAX train in Southeast Portland. Details about the exact location and circumstances of the shooting have not yet been released by authorities.

    Portland Police Bureau officers report they quickly located the suspect and arrested a 71‑year‑old Portland man in connection with the shooting. Charges include attempted murder, according to law enforcement sources.

    The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries believed to be non‑fatal. Police said his condition is being monitored, but no additional updates were immediately available.

    Officials closed part of the MAX route during the investigation and cordoned off the scene to collect evidence. TriMet service was delayed as a result, though normal operations resumed later in the morning.

    The Portland Police Bureau is continuing its investigation and has not yet disclosed a possible motive. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact PPB.

    This incident marks another high‑profile violent episode on public transit in Portland, where officials have faced ongoing concerns about safety on and around the MAX system.

    The video, which circulated on social media Friday, shows the officer speaking with members of the public during a demonstration in Portland. In the footage, the officer appears to justify the use of deadly force by federal officers involved in the Minnesota shooting, prompting criticism online.

    The Portland Police Bureau said the officer was removed from his regular assignment and reassigned to other duties while the bureau reviews the incident. Officials said the move is administrative and does not indicate discipline at this stage.

  • Driver Dead After Avoiding Traffic Stop in Northeast Portland – KXL

    One person is dead after an attempted traffic stop in Northeast Portland late last night.

    Port of Portland officers tried to pull over a vehicle near 116th and Prescott. Police say the driver took off, but they did not engage in a chase … instead, tracking the vehicle by radio.

    Minutes later, dispatchers got a report of a car fire near Northeast Fremont. Police say that vehicle crashed into a parked car and caught fire. They determined the burning car was the same one officers had tried to pull over.

    The driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

    PORTLAND, OR – While overall crime is up slight from November, there is positive data regarding shootings in Portland.  The city is seeing a sustained drop in gun violence, with new data from the Portland Police Bureau showing shooting incidents have continued to decline through 2025 and are now at their lowest level since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

    According to PPB’s crime dashboard, the city has recorded 525 shooting incidents so far in 2025, a significant decrease compared to 747 incidents in 2024. That represents a drop of about 30 percent year over year, reinforcing a trend that has been moving steadily downward since 2022.

    The data marks the lowest annual total of shooting incidents since 2019, a notable milestone after several years of elevated violence during and immediately following the pandemic. While shootings remain a serious public safety concern, the latest figures suggest meaningful progress.

    The decline is reflected within broader crime data tracked by PPB.     PORTLAND, OR – The Portland Fire Investigations Unit is looking into a fire at the home of City Councilor Candace Avalos.  The exact cause of the fire was not clear during the initial investigation, but it is considered suspicious in nature.

    On Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 2:40a.m., Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a fire at the home Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos. The fire is considered suspicious.

    Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the fire in the Mill Park Neighborhood just after 2:30 Sunday morning, October 26th.  Firefighters say they found several parked vehicles and a carport in flames.  The fire was put out, and no one was hurt.

  • PPB Releases Body Cam Footage of Apparent Fight Over Officer’s Gun – KXL

    PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau has released body worn camera footage from an incident on September 27th, 2025 at Oregon Park.  It looks to show 2 officers attempting to arrest 43-year-old Bo Davis outside a public restroom.

    The lead up shows they were responding to reports of a man using a red, metal stick to hit cars along I-84.  And also threaten pedestrians.

    They tracked Davis to the park and wait for him to exit a public restroom before placing him under arrest.  Davis appears to be holding a red metal rod and resists.  During the ensuing wrestling match, the video looks to show him going for one of their guns at least twice.

    No shots were fired and ultimately everone escaped with minor injuries.  But because Davis had to be subdued using a potentially deadly neck hold, it’s considered a use of deadly force by an officer.

  • Portland Police Bureu Chief Bob Day Addresses Potential Incoming National Guard Trooops – KXL

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Chief Bob Day did not mince any words when he addressed reporters Monday afternoon on the possibilty of President Trump sending National Guard troops to Portland.  He said, the national narrative simply isn’t correct, and the troops aren’t needed.

    Chief Day held a press conference to discuss the state of the city and the posture of the PPB.  He said they made 2 arrests on Sunday night after a demonstration at the Federal ICE Building along the South Waterfront.  And noted that those are the first arrests they’ve made in connection to demonstrations at that location since mid-July.

    Day said they have grown a great deal since the riots of 2020 and said that they are far better trained, equipped and supported here in 2025 should something arise where crowd control is needed.  He called what’s happening with the President some kind of political move.  And said they would continue with their consistent policies and procedures to protect the citizens and prevent crimes including vandalism by arresting offenders and using their training.
