  • PDX Has Ongoing Donation Drive For Federal Workers Affected by Government Shutdown – KXL

    [ad_1]

To show appreciation for FAA and TSA workers who continue to push through the government shutdown without a paycheck, the Port of Portland is sponsoring donation bins.

“The magic of PDX is our people – the thousands of airport employees who keep our region moving and go the extra mile for locals and travelers,” Spokesperson Molly Prescott said in a statement to KXL.

“This donation collection is a way for our community to support the local federal workers at PDX who continue to work without pay and keep airport operations running smoothly,” Prescott continued.

The general public can go to PDX and donate non-perishable canned goods, snacks, rice, pasta, and peanut butter as well as gift cards for essentials like groceries and gas. Household items may also go in the donation bins.

Items that cannot be donated include:

    • Cash, checks, or cash cards
    • Used, damaged, or unpackaged items
    • Clothing
    • Larger household items, like appliances

The donation drive at PDX will run through the entirety of the government shutdown. Bins can be found by the stadium stairs in the main terminal, just before the security checkpoints.

    [ad_1]

Spirit Airlines announced today that Portland is one of 11 U.S. cities that will no longer be flown through. Oakland, Sacramento, and San Jose are just some of the other destinations that Spirit will no longer operate out of.

KXL received official confirmation from a a PDX spokesperson, who released the following statement:

“(We) can confirm that Spirit Airlines will be suspending all operations at PDX, with the last flight to operate on 10/3/25. It is worth noting that their service at PDX had already decreased this year compared to last.”

Spirit’s response to the news was shared in a statement:

“We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience this may cause and will reach out to those with affected reservations to notify them of their options, including a refund…We are grateful to the airports, business partners and community members in these markets who welcomed and supported us.”

The Florida-based airline has chosen a more strategic operation to serve its largest hubs. The decision comes after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice in the last year, including most recently last month.
