  • Michigan Bill Would Digitally Cockblock Entire State

In recent years, legislation aimed at restricting access to online porn sites has become more and more popular in conservative states, but in Michigan, lawmakers have just introduced a bill that would ban all online pornography, full stop.

The legislation, which offers a deeply draconian perspective on human sexuality, was introduced on Sept. 11th, and its primary sponsor is Rep. Josh Schriver (R-Oxford). The “Anticorruption of Public Morals Act,” which sounds like a bill whose name (and contents) were sourced from the 1930s, would ban all “pornographic material.” What does that mean? According to the bill text, it means “content, digital, streamed, or otherwise distributed on the internet, the primary purpose of which is to sexually arouse or gratify, including videos, erotica, magazines, stories, manga, material generated by artificial intelligence, live feeds, or sound clips.”

That, uh, sure sounds like a lot. Additionally, the bill would also define “any depiction or description of trans people as pornographic,” which means that such depictions would also be banned, 404 Media writes. Indeed, while the bill text does not include any specific mentions of trans people as a group, it does include a stipulation that would ban the following category of media: “a depiction, description, or simulation, whether real, animated, digitally generated, written, or auditory, that includes a disconnection between biology and gender by an individual of biological sex imitating, depicting, or representing himself or herself to be of the other biological sex by means of a combination of attire, cosmetology, or prosthetics, or as having a reproductive nature contrary to the individual’s biological sex.”

The bill’s top sponsor, Schriver, claims this is all about defending children. “These measures defend children, safeguard our communities, and put families first,” Schriver recently wrote on X. “Obscene and harmful content online threatens Michigan families, especially children.”

Pornography is obviously a complicated subject with a twisty, not altogether politically neat history, and there are plenty of nuanced conversations to be had about it. One thing’s for sure: an outright ban on it isn’t nuanced, nor does it allow for any conversation at all.

Gizmodo reached out to Schriver’s office for comment and will update this story if he responds.

While, in earlier times, third-wave feminists were the ones advocating for an abolition of the porn industry, in recent times, conservatives have led the charge, albeit for an entirely different set of reasons. Earlier this year, rightwing Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), which would have effectively criminalized all pornography nationwide. Not much has happened with the bill since it was introduced and referred to a Senate committee. The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which many believe has acted as a kind of rightwing policy bible for the Trump administration, has also advocated for criminalizing all pornography.

  • Will Porn Decide The Next Election

Will Porn Decide The Next Election

This is turning into one of the most weird elections. Now will porn sway the election?

The presidential election has been filled with memes, hurricanes, hashtags, misinformation and more. Record voter turnout has already been seen in Georgia and anxiety is up in both parties. But will porn decide the next election? You have the right, the left, moderates, evangelicals, union members, and celebrities weighing in and trying to sway the vote.  But two groups are getting involved via porn and it could actually make a difference.

As of August 2024, Pornhub is the 16th-most-visited website in the world and the most-visited adult website. Which makes it bigger than Amazon, Pinterest, and Walmart. Additionally there are 4 adult sites in the top 50. Which makes it a powerful voice in a moment when people could be open to information about their activity.  Advertising on an adult site is inexpensive and has a huge reach. Plus, the performers have a huge reach…especially with the hard to reach demographic of men 25-44.  So why wouldn’t it become a key focus.

FTW PAC, is a political action committee co-founded by friends Wally Nowinski and Matt Curry. Their plan to reach the hard to grab young men demographic to engage them when they consume online adult entertainment. It mixes up the ad content and their moment’s interest.

They are running ads which starts with a woman enjoying herself on a bed before Donald Trump appears over her, or else a warning that “Trump’s Project 2025 will ban this video.” The ads conclude by telling the viewer, “Enjoy while you can.”  Powerful stuff when men are in a needy moment.

When Louisiana banned porn, which was support by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), demand for VPNs surged by 210%. When Pornhub blocked access to Texas, searches for VPNs by Texas users increased more than fourfold.

In addition to FTW PAC, 17 adult film stars has launched a $100,000 ad campaign warning viewers about the Project 2025. The ads run in front of videos on popular porn sites. This is to sway the election against the the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation blueprint for the next Republican administration.  Their plan is to ban pornography and prosecute porn producers.  Additionally, they want to stop legal marijuana.

  • Pornhub to leave five more states over age-verification laws

Pornhub to leave five more states over age-verification laws

Pornhub will cease operating in five more states this summer due to new legislation that requires age verification on adult entertainment websites. The move is in response to a wave of recently-passed laws that require porn websites and other platforms with explicit adults-only content to collect proof of their users’ ages. In all of these states, that means people would need to upload a copy of their driver’s license or other government ID, or register with a third-party age verification service, in order to use sites like Pornhub.

from Pornhub said that its latest locations for shutdowns are , , , and . The site said it would end operations in those states in July 2024. The website closed , and has also blocked access to its site in Arkansas, Mississippi, , , and Virginia in response to similar state legislation.

Lawmakers from these states who supported age-verification laws said the rules would keep children from viewing explicit content. For example, the Kentucky bill framed pornography as a “public health crisis” with a “corroding influence” on children.

Pornhub parent company Aylo has countered that the approach taken by these laws puts users’ privacy at risk and may not actually prevent minors from seeing explicit content. After and Aylo remained in operation with a government-supported age verification service, Pornhub traffic in the state dropped 80 percent.

“These people did not stop looking for porn,” Aylo told the . “They just migrated to darker corners of the internet that don’t ask users to verify age, that don’t follow the law, that don’t take user safety seriously, and that often don’t even moderate content.” The company a device-based age verification solution rather than state legislation to keep minors off of adults-only sites.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation also raised privacy concerns around these bills, noting that no age-verification method is completely foolproof. “No one should have to hand over their driver’s license just to access free websites. That’s why EFF opposes mandated age verification laws, no matter how well intentioned they may be,” the organization said in .

  • Consumer Spending Validates Marijuana Rescheduling

    Consumer Spending Validates Marijuana Rescheduling

It is a historic move for a country which had prohibition, but consumers are using their wallets to show they support it.

Culture wars have been an American tradition – from the battle over TicTok to the alcohol prohibition in the 1920s. It was said the only thing to come out of the anti-liquor period was it taught good citizens how to break the law.  But in general, if the public wants it, the public will have it, legal or not. The perfect is example is the Pornhub ban in Utah and Texas, which has sent VPN sign ups sky high. And consumer spending validates marijuana rescheduling in a major way.

RELATED: Beer Sales Flatten Thanks To Marijuana

Some politicians and leaders believe in the nanny state option.  Those include a few governors lead by Ron DeSantis, Mitch McConnell, and a few other special interest groups.  But the Biden’s administration’s decision to reschedule cannabis lines up with public opinion. Over 85% believe it should legal in some form, and more importantly, they are putting their money toward what they want.  Leading analyst firm, BDSA, shared the public’s spending habit’s match their thoughts on rescheduling.

Following the tradition, cannabis sales moved higher again this year. Sales on 20 April 2024 sales were $167M, a 33% increase over the previous year.  Trends like California sober are going strong and Gen Z continues to move away from alcohol and move toward marijuana vapes and gummies. Lifestyle habits are starting to adjust slightly away from alcohol and more low alcohol drinks, mocktails, and cannabis eat away at the traditional market.  Alcohol is much rougher on the body, so many are opting for a semi-healthier option.

It is a benefit for fully recreational states as even Missouri makes significant tax income on cannabis. Most governors are on board with rescheduling at it is not only the public’s will, but it helps the state’s coffers and actually helps in other areas. Even New York State, with over 1,500 non tax paying illicit stores making money, made some income.  They have less than 100 licensed dispensaries generating over $175 million.

What’s a VPN and How Do You Use One To Access Pornhub in Texas?

As you’ve probably heard, Pornhub, the nation’s largest purveyor of free online pornography, has pulled out of Texas. In fact, Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo, has pulled all of its adult sites from the state because of a state law meant to add age verification processes to the platforms…

  • Pornhub Bans Texas

    Pornhub Bans Texas

It’s going to be a little harder to find porn in the Lone Star State. Pornhub is no longer available to Texas residents thanks to a lawsuit from the state’s attorney general.

Horny Texans saw a very unsexy message when visiting the previously mentioned porn sites on Thursday.

“As you may know, your elected officials in Texas are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website,” the message reads. “Unfortunately, the Texas law for age verification is ineffective, haphazard, and dangerous. Until the real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in Texas.”

Pornhub’s sexy step-sister sites Redtube, Brazzers, and YouPorn are also showing the same message.

Back in February, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company, for failing to enforce the state’s age verification law. The legislation went into effect last September and requires adult sites like Pornhub to obtain digital identification for users verifying they are of legal age to view porn. Last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled in favor of Texas ruling that the state law doesn’t violate the First Amendment.

Aylo says it’s not finished in its legal battle for the right of every red-blooded adult American to access hardcore porn.

“This is not the end,” said Alex Kekesi, vice president of brand and community for Aylo, in an emailed statement Thursday. “We are reviewing options and consulting with our legal team. We will continue to fight for our industry and the performers that legally earn a living, and we will continue to appeal through all available judicial recourse to recognize that this law is unconstitutional.”

Texas is part of the growing number of states that are finding the largest porn sites are no longer interested in sticking around. Montana and North Carolina saw their access to Pornhub and its sister sites go away at the beginning of the year. Arkansas, Mississippi, Utah, Louisiana, and Virginia have also either lost access or will lose access due to their own age verification laws. The governor of Indiana signed his state’s age verification law on Wednesday.

Pornhub disables access in Texas due to age verification law | TechCrunch

Texas residents can no longer access Pornhub — without a VPN. As of Thursday, when people in Texas try to access any of the porn sites owned by Aylo, formerly MindGeek, they’ll instead see a long message in opposition to age verification laws.

Laws requiring age verification on adult entertainment sites have already gone into effect in states including Louisiana, Mississippi, Virginia, Utah, Montana and North Carolina. But Texas’ age-verification law was stalled when a group of porn industry advocates and companies challenged the legislation, leading a US District judge to rule that enforcement could harm free speech protections. Last week, the US Court of Appeals ruled that Texas can indeed enforce this law.

Though these laws are intended to prohibit minors from accessing adult content, advocacy groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation and think tank R Street have long opposed website age checks because they can threaten data security and anonymity. Rather than instituting age checks, which Pornhub has called “haphazard and dangerous,” the site has simply cut off access in states with such laws.

“Since age verification software requires users to hand over extremely sensitive information, it opens the door for the risk of data breaches,” Pornhub wrote on its blog. “Whether or not your intentions are good, governments have historically struggled to secure this data.”

Pornhub didn’t always take this approach. Louisiana was the first state to institute one of these laws at the start of 2023. At first, Pornhub complied with age verification via the state-run LA Wallet app, which connects to a Louisiana resident’s ID. In other words, you were legally required to verify your government ID in order to watch porn.

Once these laws extended to other states, Pornhub and Aylo’s other sites took a different approach. In some states that require age checks to visit adult websites, you’ll be greeted by a safe-for-work video from porn star Cherie DeVille, where she explains Pornhub’s stance on the data privacy issues at hand.

The adult actors who live in these states can still use Pornhub through their creator accounts, because they’ve already verified their identity as a pre-requisite to uploading content on the site.

These changes in state internet regulations come at a time when access to online platforms is up for debate in Congress. The Kids Online Safety Act and similar bills are picking up steam in Congress after numerous hearings with tech CEOs about children’s internet safety, but the common refrain is that many of these safety initiatives could backfire when applied by bad actors. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives passed a bill this week that could ban TikTok and other “foreign adversary controlled applications.” Now, the TikTok bill will be debated in the Senate, where it could have wider ramifications for government interference in tech.

  • Pornhub's Most Popular Video Game Character In 2023 Was Chun-Li From… Fortnite?

Pornhub's Most Popular Video Game Character In 2023 Was Chun-Li From… Fortnite?

Image: Epic Games / Capcom / Kotaku

It shouldn’t be surprising in 2023 that a lot of people watch porn involving video game characters, but exactly who tops the list and why might indeed be unexpected.

It’s the end of the year, which means companies and websites around the internet are releasing tons of data on what people played, read, listened to, and more. These yearly wrap-ups have become one of my favorite parts of December as I love looking through all the data they reveal. And perhaps there’s no data more interesting than what human beings around the world are getting off on. According to at least one popular porn site, a lot of you were into Chun-Li—but not the version from Street Fighter.

Earlier this month, Pornhub released its annual (and very detailed) round-up of what kind of content was the most popular and most sought after on its massively successful site. In all this data, as has been the case for the last few years, is a large section dedicated to video games. Like last year, Fortnite was at the top of the list with Overwatch in second. This time around though, Genshin Impact slipped out of the top three and was replaced by Minecraft.

A chart shows the most searched games on Pornhub.

    Image: Pornhub

Further data provided by Pornhub revealed which specific video game characters people were searching for the most in 2023. Chun-Li topped the list, overtaking names like Tifa from Final Fantasy and Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. But weirdly, according to Pornhub’s data, most people were looking for Chun-Li from Fortnite, not Street Fighter, the series she first appeared in. Though Ryu and Chun-Li were added to Epic’s popular battle royale in 2021, it’s still kind of weird.

To get this data, Pornhub says it collected searches that included a character name and a video game title. This was done “to avoid counting searches for pornstars who may have similar names.”

Anyway, here’s the top ten list of most searched characters on Pornhub.

    1. Chun-Li (Fortnite)
    2. Tifa (Final Fantasy)
    3. Dva (Overwatch)
    4. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
    5. Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil)
    6. Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog)
    7. Ada Wong (Resident Evil)
    8. Mario (Super Mario Bros.)
    9. Widomaker (Overwatch)
    10. Mercy (Overwatch)

Try not to think too much about Sonic ranking so high or slip into a daydream where you’re in a room of Nintendo execs when they see that Mario cracked the top of the list.

Pornhub Releases Graphic Illustrating Depth Of Submersible Compared With 10-Inch Cock

MONTREAL—Posting the helpful explainer to their social media to educate the online public, Pornhub released a graphic Thursday illustrating the depth of the OceanGate submersible compared to a 10-inch cock. “The OceanGate submersible was designed to make it 152,790 inches deeper than this veiny, throbbing member,” said Pornhub PR representative Jennifer Collins, explaining that it would take over 15,000 large cocks stacked on top of each other to reach the Titanic wreckage. “Sure, this 10-inch cock is really big, but as we can see, it’s utterly dwarfed by the vast depth of the ocean. Unfortunately, all the cocks would likely implode before reaching the diving distance of the OceanGate sub. Even the most rock-hard of monster dongs would be unable to withstand the pressure of the ocean at that depth.” At press time, Pornhub released a second infographic comparing the depth of the submersible with a flaccid 6-inch cock.
