This year, some new faces have joined Delhi’s renowned Luv Kush Ramleela Committee. Among them, the most talked-about celebrity is actress Poonam Pandey, who has been chosen to play Mandodari who was Ravana’s wife in this year’s Ramleela. However, not everyone is happy with this decision. Some political leaders have objected to her selection and demanded her replacement.

Poonam Pandey herself is very excited about the role. Luv Kush Ramleela President Arun Kumar said that when he offered Poonam the role of Mandodari, she immediately agreed. He said, “When we approached Poonam Pandey for this role, she instantly agreed. She shared that portraying Mandodari on stage has been her lifelong dream, fulfilled by the blessings of Lord Shri Ram. However, as soon as this news broke, BJP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders objected. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, head of the Delhi BJP media cell and senior vice president of the Luv Kush Ramleela Committee, wrote a letter to the organizers demanding that Poonam be replaced. He said, “Pandey has not only been off the screen for years but is also known for controversies over her photos and videos on social media.” However, the president of the committee, Arjun, told PTI, “We don’t see anything wrong with a woman playing a character that represents goodness in the Ramleela. Everyone deserves a chance.”
All about Lav Kush Ramleela
The Luv Kush Ramleela is one of Delhi’s most famous Ramleelas. This year, it will begin on September 22nd and continue until October 3rd. Poonam will appear on stage as Mandodari on September 29th and 30th. This year, actor Arya Babbar will play Ravana. The event will be held at the Red Fort grounds, where more than 500 artists will participate.
