  • Volkswagen is bringing physical buttons back to the dashboard with the ID. Polo EV

We could be witnessing the start of the renaissance for real buttons in cars, courtesy of Volkswagen’s ID. Polo. The German automaker unveiled the interior of its upcoming compact EV, which features real buttons, switches and even a knob for audio controls.

“We have created an interior that feels like a friend from the very first contact,” Volkswagen’s chief designer, Andreas Mindt, said in a press release. “Clear physical buttons provide stability and trust, warm materials make it appealing, and charming details such as the new retro views of the instruments show the typical Volkswagen wink.”

    Volkswagen

Last year, Mindt told Autocar that Volkswagen would commit to reintroducing physical buttons for the most important functions “in every car we make from now on,” starting with the ID. 2all concept car that has since evolved to become the ID. Polo. The EV maker backed up those claims since the ID. Polo will feature tangible buttons underneath the infotainment display, along with a steering wheel that’s packed with even more clear buttons. Between the driver and passenger, Volkswagen even included a knob that can adjust audio volume or shuffle between tracks and radio stations.

    Volkswagen

Besides the renewed emphasis on physical controls, Volkswagen still included a 10.25-inch digital cockpit behind the steering wheel. In the center, there’s a nearly 13-inch touchscreen that serves as the infotainment system. For a retro throwback, the ID. Polo can swap its cockpit display to one that’s inspired by the classic Golf I from the 1980s through a button on its steering wheel or with the infotainment touchscreen.

The ID. Polo is expected to be the first of four new EVs in Volkswagen’s small and compact car segment, which will see releases in European markets starting this year. However, it’s not all good news, since Volkswagen has no plans to release the compact EV in the US.

  • Prince Harry and Nacho Figueras Had a Friendly Ski Weekend in Aspen

December is for hitting the slopes, even if you’re royalty. And because Aspen is the top destination for skiing in the U.S., it was only a matter of time before Prince Harry made an appearance there. The Duke of Sussex traveled to Colorado last week to attend the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship.

Aspen Snow Polo’s Instagram page noted that Harry competed on the Aspen Valley team, playing alongside Grant Ganzi and Nic Roldan. Missing from that roster was Nacho Figueras, Harry’s friend and a former professional polo player from Argentina, who was instead a part of the St. Regis team.

Even though they were competitors at the sporting event, the pals were spotted on the slopes before the games began. Figueras and Harry spent a few hours together skiing and having a high-altitude lunch. According to Hello, which first reported the news, “Harry seemed happy and was also joined by a number of male friends on the slopes.”

Harry and Figueras first met in 2007 during a tournament raising funds for Sentebale, a charity founded by the prince. Afterward they bonded over their shared passion for polo. Figueras was among the guests at Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle, and he also appeared in Polo, a docuseries that Harry and Meghan produced for Netflix.

Meghan wasn’t on hand to cheer for her husband this time around; she remained in Montecito, California, with her children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan did share her enthusiasm for the event by sharing a picture of Harry on horseback to her Instagram account.

Earlier this month, the duchess’s father, Thomas Markle, underwent a leg amputation in the Philippines. On December 10, a spokesperson said that Meghan was able to deliver a letter to his bedside, per The Guardian, and criticized the British media for making it difficult for her to have private exchanges with her father. Last week, Harry and Meghan shared their annual holiday card, including a family picture showing Archie and Lilibet in profile.

Meanwhile, Harry’s time in Aspen was his first public appearance in weeks, and he seemed to be enjoying this boys’ weekend in the snow. As a child, the prince would spend vacations with his family in cold destinations like Switzerland. Most years, he still chooses to spend some time on the slopes. In 2024, he even tried sit-skiing during a visit to a training camp ahead of the 2025 Invictus Games in Whistler and Vancouver. That same year, he reportedly took his own children to Powder Mountain Ski Resort in Utah for a family vacation.

  • Champagne, Caviar Bumps and Celebrities: Inside Aspen’s St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship

Before the tournament kicked off on Wednesday, there was the obligatory pilgrimage to Kemo Sabe, where Mariah Carey, Shay Mitchell, and Pia Baroncini picked up custom cowboy hats—the must-have accessory for blending in with Aspen’s Western-chic aesthetic.

Once play began at Rio Grande Park, champagne flowed freely alongside a raw bar, sushi station, and taco setup in the St. Regis tent. Roving waiters circulated, offering caviar bumps and freshly shucked oysters to a crowd swaddled in fur and cowboy boots, carrying dogs decked out in sunglasses, mini cowboy hats, and Moncler puffers. Base State Longevity, meanwhile, offered custom snow polo IV therapy drips, B12 shots, and oxygen therapy.

Nacho Figueras and Shaun WhiteNick Radford.

That evening, some, including Tina Chen Craig and James Tupper, retreated to the hotel’s RAKxa wellness spa to recharge in the ammortal chamber’s infrared therapy and try out Aescape’s AI-powered robotic massage. Others headed straight to the Staud for the St. Regis Alpine Collection unveiling, where White performed a champagne sabrage—slicing the bottle top with a sword. Guests, including Charlotte Groeneveld, Stephanie Suganami, and Sara Sampaio, were then shuttled to Wild Fig for a dinner hosted by Staud cofounder George Augusto.

  • Work to Ride hosting indoor polo event to debut $15 million arena in Fairmont Park

Work to Ride, the Fairmount Park organization offering horseback riding and polo lessons to city kids, will celebrate the opening of its new arena this weekend with an inaugural competition.

The equestrian group raised $15 million to build the McCausland Arena, which includes a barn, indoor and outdoor competition spaces, pastures, a mezzanine and a tie area. That project was completed in June, and crews will finish work rehabbing the existing stables in the coming days.

The 45,000-square-foot space will allow for year-round programming and expand the number of youths that Work to Ride can support. Kareem Rosser, the executive vice president of Work to Ride, said the organization will also be able to rent out the space for horse shows and events as another form of income.

“It just really gives us the ability to just grow our impact and impact here in Philadelphia because we can now do things during the winter months and year-round,” Rosser said. “But I think the exciting piece is for us, as a nonprofit, is being able to become a little bit more self-sufficient by generating new revenue streams in the new space.”

To celebrate the opening of the facility, Work to Ride will host the Philadelphia Arena Polo Championship on Saturday from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. — a slight twist on its annual Polo Classic event. The Polo Championship will feature two matches of arena polo, which is played indoors, features a different ball and has three players per team compared with four for outdoor polo. Both matches are ticketed separately and proceeds support the organization’s programming.

The competition will star current and former Work to Ride program players. During the event, attendees can also take tours of the new building and check out food trucks and vendors.

“It’ll be a day where we can celebrate this huge milestone, that being the new facility, but it’s also an opportunity for people to watch polo who never watched polo before,” Rosser said.

The event temporarily replaces the annual Polo Classic, which is typically held outside at Edgley Field in September. Rosser said the organization was unable to put on two events at the same time while getting the facility open and opted to prioritize an indoor event this year in the new space. But he plans to bring back the Polo Classic in its full capacity next fall as part of the city’s semiquincentennial celebration for America’s 250th birthday.

He also plans to bring back the Polo Championship, although he said it might not be held in September again.

“We’re hoping to make this an annual thing where folks continue to get to enjoy our event,” Rosser said.

  • United States Polo Association (USPA) Supports Work To Ride with $1 Million Grant for Facility Expansion

The United States Polo Association (USPA) and Work to Ride are pleased to announce that the USPA has awarded a $1 million grant to Work to Ride (WTR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to equine sports and education based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The funding will support the completion of a new 45,000-square-foot indoor riding facility, the McCausland Arena, at the Chamounix Equestrian Center, located just 10 minutes from Center City and home to the WTR program. The grant is specifically aimed at aiding in the completion of the new facility (Phase 1), further enabling WTR to provide year-round programming and services for the first time in 30 years.

Additionally, the project will benefit Philadelphia’s community and the greater Philadelphia area, with a continued focus on targeting youth in surrounding neighborhoods with high concentrations of under-resourced families through after-school programming featuring equestrian programs, polo training, and equine education. While the USPA grant is dedicated to Phase 1, the broader project also encompasses the future refurbishment of the existing 50-year-old equestrian center and stable (Phase 2). This phase will create a safe, functional, and welcoming space for youth and horses, with plans to include new windows, roofing, and updated learning areas and bathrooms.

“I am beyond thrilled to announce this partnership with the USPA, U.S. Polo Assn., and USPA Global,” stated Kareem Rosser, Executive Vice President of Work to Ride. “Both Work to Ride’s and the USPA’s interscholastic and intercollegiate programs have had a profound impact on my life, offering a rare opportunity to participate in a sport that has transformed my future. I’m especially excited about their meaningful contribution to our project and their ongoing commitment to making polo more accessible and inclusive for all.”

This partnership with USPA, U.S. Polo Assn., and USPA Global underscores a shared commitment to advancing the growth of the sport of polo while simultaneously enhancing the visibility and impact of all involved parties. Additionally, providing a space for USPA Intercollegiate/Interscholastic programs, USPA events, and other USPA activities further fosters youth participation and strengthens the sport’s continued development.

“We are proud to support Work to Ride, an organization that has made a lasting impact on under-resourced urban youth through polo and other equine disciplines and education. This partnership strengthens our commitment to fostering the next generation of polo players and providing them with valuable life skills,” said Chris Green, Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel of USPA.

As part of this grant agreement between the USPA and Work to Ride, U.S. Polo Assn., the official brand of the USPA, will be the Official Apparel and Jersey Sponsor for Work to Ride. The multi-billion-dollar global sports brand will provide team jerseys, whites, and polo gear bags for all Work to Ride program participants. U.S. Polo Assn. will also provide staff apparel for Work to Ride employees at the facility for events.

“U.S. Polo Assn. is thrilled to give our support to the Work to Ride Program, an organization that empowers youth through horsemanship, equine sports and education,” said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global, the company that manages and markets the global, multi-billion-dollar U.S. Polo Assn. brand. “Through this program, we will not only support the community but also the next generation of polo players and their equine partners while deepening our authentic connection to the sport.”

Founded in 1994, Work to Ride is a community-based program that aids Philadelphia’s under-resourced youth through constructive activities centered on horsemanship, equine sports, and education. The program is housed at Chamounix Equestrian Center, located in West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. This setting provides a unique opportunity to bring Philadelphia’s youth in contact with animals and nature.

Work to Ride is designed as a long-term program for 8- to 18-year-old students who must commit to a minimum of one year of participation. Through participation in evidence-based programs, students are working early mornings and after school for the opportunity to acquire life skills such as responsibility, decision making, and leadership while they learn to ride horses and play polo. In the process, they learn that the life limitations they see around them in local neighborhoods may not have to be so limiting after all.

For 25 years, WTR has been a successful participant in the USPA’s Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Program. WTR participants and graduates have surpassed expectations, competing in and winning interscholastic and intercollegiate tournaments. To further strengthen this success, the planned building and renovations are essential for the expansion of programs and services, providing more young people with the opportunity to engage in this unique, urban equestrian community in the largest urban park in the United States and ensuring its sustainability for years to come.

The globally attended event hosted more than 200 guests, including many of the world’s top companies and RLI Global winners. Previous Global RLI Awards presented by Retail & Leisure International Magazine have been held in iconic cities around the world, including Dubai, Los Angeles, and Riyadh.

The brand’s winning entry was for ‘Emerging Market Retailer: U.S. Polo Assn. Becomes a Power Brand in India, Targets Billion-Dollar Milestone,’ while the brand was also named a finalist for the ‘International Retailer of the Year: U.S. Polo Assn. Delivers Record $2.4 Billion in Retail Sales Across 190 Countries’ category as well. The sport-inspired brand was selected from an expert global panel of 11 judges, alongside other winners in the 13 awards categories. U.S. Polo Assn. was among notable brands, such as Real Madrid, Harrods Holidays and Occasions Department, DeFacto, AWWG, Daiso Industries Co. Ltd., and Keystone Group to name a few.

“U.S. Polo Assn. has distinguished itself in emerging markets by staying true to its heritage, while embracing a modern, accessible, and aspirational identity. This award celebrates the brand’s exceptional growth, ability to connect with diverse audiences, and commitment to high-quality, stylish apparel that resonates across cultures and geographies,” said Jayne Rafter, Owner and Publisher of Retail & Leisure International. “Their success is a testament to the brand’s strategic vision, adaptability, and dedication to delivering authentic experiences to consumers around the world.”

The multi-billion-dollar U.S. Polo Assn. brand’s award highlights its authentic connection to the sport of polo through achievements such as delivering a record $2.4 billion in global retail sales, spanning 190 countries in over 1,100 retail stores and thousands of wholesale locations and e-commerce. In fact, U.S. Polo Assn. is projected to become a billion-dollar business in India alone, recently being designated the top-selling casual menswear brand in the world’s most populated country. Currently, the U.S. Polo Assn. brand’s retail footprint in India is impressive, at more than 400 stores across more than 200 cities, with plans to add 100 more stores in the near future.

U.S. Polo Assn.’s growth in India can be attributed to its brick-and-mortar and e-commerce growth strategies, as well as overall brand marketing through storytelling. The global, sports brand has launched an exclusive brand-specific website, USPoloAssn.in, to further enhance the digital offerings for customers and provide easier access to its product offerings across India.

Global brand ambassadors are also key to the market, which include His Highness Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh (Pacho) of Jaipur India, fashion icon and Bollywood star Palak Tiwari, and for the brand’s “Legends Forever Play Together” campaign, modeling moguls Arjun Rampal and Milind Soman, alongside tennis icons Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhuphati.

The sports brand generated record growth with some 50 brand sites in 20 languages and over 9 million social media followers in 2024. Moreover, U.S. Polo Assn.’s landmark multi-year global deal with ESPN and Star Sports in India now brings exposure to several of the premier polo championships in the world to a massive global audience.

“We are proud of U.S. Polo Assn.’s recognition by Retail & Leisure International as Emerging Market Retailer of the Year, a recognition that underscores the U.S. Polo Assn.’s expansion in the global retail space, along with our authentic connection to the sport of polo and its heritage,” says J. • U.S. Polo Assn. Launches Iconic Legends Campaign and Targets Billion-Dollar Opportunity in India

U.S. Polo Assn. Launches Iconic Legends Campaign and Targets Billion-Dollar Opportunity in India

International Sports Power Brand Activates New E-Commerce Site Alongside Campaign

U.S. Polo Assn., the official brand of the United States Polo Association, and Arvind Fashions Ltd. (NSE:ARVINDFASN), aka Arvind, are proud to announce two major business milestones in India: the iconic Legends marketing campaign and the new U.S. Polo Assn. website launch. Both business strategies have been designed to help take U.S. Polo Assn. in India to the next level, reaching the company’s new target to be a billion-dollar power brand in the country.

According to a recent United Nations report, India has overtaken China as the world’s most populous nation. In fact, according to the report, India’s population is expected to reach 1.428 billion, compared to China’s 1.425 billion. The U.S. Polo Assn. brand’s popularity in India has only grown with the population, making India prime to be the global brand’s fastest-growing market. The tremendous growth in popularity and ultimately market share is not without effort, which includes a strategy focused on both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce, as well as overall brand marketing through storytelling.

As one of India’s leading casualwear power brands, the multi-billion-dollar, global, sport-inspired U.S. Polo Assn. brand has launched an exclusive brand-specific website USPoloAssn.in to further enhance digital offerings for customers and provide easier access to its product offerings. U.S. Polo Assn. is the first brand in the Arvind Fashions Limited family of businesses to go live with an exclusive brand website. Previously, the brand was listed on all leading online platforms and NNNow, the official brand store and digital destination for Arvind Fashions Limited.

“Arvind has been a tremendous partner to the U.S. Polo Assn. brand, and we are excited about our future as a power brand, targeting a billion-dollar business over the long term in one of the world’s most important markets,” said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing, the company that manages and oversees the U.S. Polo Assn. brand. “The execution of our strategic plan in India will further solidify our position as one of the top casual menswear brands in the country.”

USPoloAssn.in will carry the entirety of the brand’s product offerings across menswear and kidswear. The website will also feature the brand’s footwear and innerwear collection, as well as the newly introduced USPA womenswear line.

The newly launched website will be hosting the “Legends Forever Play Together” campaign, featuring Arjun Rampal and Milind Soman, the ‘legends of the modeling industry’, and Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhuphati, the ‘legends of tennis.’ The campaign, while celebrating their legendary stature, also shows these icons reminiscing about their fondest memories of where their journey began.

Legends further showcases themes of fashion, style, and nostalgia, as well as bonding between the stars, while presenting the cool and sporty factor of the brand. In the multi-channel campaign, the Legends can be seen sporting the all-new Autumn-Winter ’23 Collection from U.S. Polo Assn. The collection features timeless classics with a modern twist, such as polos, denim, oxfords, sweaters, jackets and tee shirts.

The multi-billion-dollar, global brand’s presence has also exploded in India, having successfully launched new identity stores, featuring modern décor, an all-white interior, and authenticity through elements of the sport of polo, like polo-themed accessories and game broadcasts, for which the brand is based. U.S. Polo Assn. even launched five stores simultaneously on Sept. 17, 2022, in the city of Bengaluru, Arvind’s corporate headquarters.

“U.S. Polo Assn. is an example of ‘phygital’ retail, where we are blending the best of digital and physical channels to enhance both and deliver the best customer experience, ultimately enabling enhanced omnichannel engagement,” said Shailesh Chaturvedi, Managing Director and CEO, Arvind Fashions Ltd. “The combination of the very special and iconic Legends Campaign, the exciting new website and our revamped stores will now allow U.S. Polo Assn. to immerse consumers in our unique brand story across all major touchpoints.”

Currently, the brand’s retail footprint in India is at more than 400 brand stores, and over 2,000 shop-in-shops, across more than 200 cities in India. Globally, the U.S. Polo Assn. brand is in 190 countries and has global retail sales of more than $2.3 billion.

“This launch comes at the right time as the market is multi-branded and continues to grow, while customers want to engage more with great brands,” said Amitabh Suri, CEO of Arvind’s U.S. Polo Assn. Division. “U.S. Polo Assn. has a strong retail presence with more than 400 brand stores across India. And when it comes to online presence, U.S. Polo Assn. has been the top casualwear brand across all leading online e-commerce platforms, making it clear there was great demand in the market to launch the new brand website.”

  • How I’m Wearing My Polo ID Handbag This Holiday Season

How I’m Wearing My Polo ID Handbag This Holiday Season

’Tis the season for a packed holiday schedule of soirées dinners and celebrations as well as the need to sort out stylish looks for every occasion. One gift that continues to shine through it all is an iconic handbag. The latest collection of the classic Polo Ralph Lauren’s Polo ID handbags, are elegant carryalls that are the north star for any festive ensemble and come in a variety of colors, textures, and sizes.

Don’t take our word for it. Just look at these three chic friends of ELLE: influencers Amy Lefevre, Rachel Nguyen, and Amy Joseph, who take the handbag for a spin around their respective cities. Whether these women are attending a fete in NYC’s Upper East Side, strolling among Chicago’s iconic architecture or celebrating in parts of Los Angeles that even locals may not know, the Polo ID handbag is the ideal finishing touch to their seasonal looks. Read on to see how they styled it and why it’s the perfect bag for the holidays.

    Amy Lefevre

    New York City

    Amy Lefevre

For model Amy Lefevre, the trick to the perfect holiday look is one that’s timeless and sleek. A cozy ivory sweater coupled with a satin maxi skirt has the right mix of textures that feel appropriately festive. Lefevre adds a pair of riding boots because running around New York City requires a stylish yet comfortable shoe. But her real secret to looking put together? A classic suede handbag like the Polo ID Leather-Trim Suede Shoulder Bag in every New Yorker’s favorite color, black. “I’ve always been drawn to black accessories because they go with almost every outfit,” she says. “You can never go wrong!” Lefevre felt a neutral ensemble would complement the Upper East Side with its abundance of museums and elegant brownstones. “It’s one of my favorite neighborhoods,” she says. “The area is so beautiful.”

    Rachel Nguyen

    Los Angeles

    polo id bag

    Rachel Nguyen

During the holidays video diarist Rachel Nguyen goes all in with festive color, opting for outfits in shades of red, black, and white. Her favorite look consists of a bold crimson turtleneck and matching puffer vest coupled with sleek black stirrup leggings and ballet flats. Instead of going all in with that palette, Nguyen likes to throw in a surprise, namely a bright yellow Polo ID Satin Mini Shoulder Bag. “I love how it’s complementary and less matchy-matchy,” she says. “The right kind of yellow needs to be not not too bright or gold. This one is perfect because you can wear it to literally any event.” Nguyen likes to take hers for a spin around Los Angeles, showing off an untouched section smack dab in the middle of the city that many may not know. “It’s a curious experience, wandering around,” she says. “You can walk three miles without realizing it and find yourself under the Hollywood sign!”

    Amy Joseph

    Chicago

    polo id bag

    Amy Joseph

Chicago’s most striking aspect may be its architecture, which is why fashion content creator Amy Joseph makes it a point to show off her favorite structure, The Wrigley Building. “I love its golden doors and detailing,” she says. “It’s one of the beautiful buildings that really make this city special.” While the gilded accents might be what draws Joseph to the space, her own aesthetic leans more minimal. “During the colder months, my wardrobe tends to transition to a more neutral aesthetic,” she explains. Her perfect holiday outfit involves a sleek black suit contrasted with tough combat boots. To give the look celebratory flair, Joseph opts for the Polo ID Satin Mini Shoulder Bag. “I’m petite so I love a smaller size that still fits my things,” she explains. “It’s the perfect accessory for all of my holiday events, whether it’s a casual daytime event or a night out.”
