A man was shot and killed by Denton police officers on Sunday morning after he refused to comply with orders and began firing his gun toward officers, Denton police said in a news release.
Officers responded about 4 a.m. to the 1300 block of Oxford Lane , after receiving a call about a man shooting at unoccupied vehicles, police said.
When officers arrived at the scene the man fired his weapon. Officers then established a perimeter and attempted to communicate with the man, police said.
Police said the man failed to comply with officers’ commands and began firing his weapon toward officers. Officers returned fire and struck the man.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died., police said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity, pending family notification.
No officers nor other residents were injured during this incident, police said.
The officers have been placed on administrative leave while internal affairs conducts an investigation, per policy, police said in the release.
The Texas Rangers are also investigating the shooting, according to the release.
