PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police have released photos of the vehicle they’re looking for after a shooting in North Philadelphia left seven people injured on Wednesday night.

The car is described as a 2004 to 2008 charcoal gray Acura TSX with an unknown Pennsylvania license plate.

The car is missing its front grille and has a yellow tie-down strap securing a damaged trunk.

It also has multiple decals on the rear window and faded paint near the sunroof.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 2800 block of North Bambrey Street.

Police say a vehicle was seen pulling up on Somerset Street. Three men then got out of the car, and that’s when at least one of them fired 17 shots down the block from the intersection.

The victims, who are between the ages of 16 and 46, were all shot while standing outside. Police say they are all listed as stable at an area hospital.

Once on scene, officers found two women who were shot in the leg. They were taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police say a 16-year-old girl, who suffered graze wounds to the abdomen and a leg, was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

The four other people who were shot – two men and two women – showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

“We believe there’s many, many people that were out and that’s why there are so many shooting victims,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. “We believe they shot into this crowd intentionally and someone in the crowd may have been the intended target.”

It’s still unclear what led up to the gunfire.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.

PHILADELPHIA — Eight juveniles were shot at a bus stop in Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon.

The gunfire rang out around 3 p.m. in the city’s Burholme neighborhood as students with Northeast High School were waiting for the bus.

According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, eight students — between the ages of 15 and 17 — were shot when three gunmen exited a vehicle near a Dunkin’ store and opened fire.

One of the students is listed as critical at an area hospital. There was no immediate word on the conditions of the seven other victims.

Bethel says over 30 shots were fired at the scene.

Sources say police are looking for three shooters and a driver in a dark blue Hyundai Elantra with paper tags. The suspects were all wearing masks and were last seen driving over a bridge toward Cheltenham Township.

One woman who works at the nearby Quaker Diner heard the gunshots and ran out to try and help the victims. She reported seeing several juveniles wounded.

“These children are dying every day out here, somebody’s got to do something. This doesn’t happen in this neighborhood,” she said.

According to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, a Route 18 bus and a Route 67 bus were struck by the gunfire near the scene.

The Action Cam was at the Frankford Transportation Center where one of the involved buses was cordoned off by police.

SEPTA says there have no reports of any injuries to passengers or employees.

Action News continues to follow this developing story.

This is the fourth shooting in less than a week involving a SEPTA bus.

On Sunday, 27-year-old Sawee Kofa was shot and killed after an argument on a SEPTA bus in the city’s Oxford Circle neighborhood.

A teen was killed and four others were hurt Monday when gunfire rang out at a bus stop in the city’s Ogontz neighborhood. And on Tuesday night, police say a man was shot and killed on a Route 79 bus Tuesday night in South Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A teenager is dead and four other people are injured after gunfire rang out at a SEPTA bus stop in Philadelphia’s Ogontz neighborhood.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel says two gunmen walked up and started firing on the block around 3:45 p.m.

Philadelphia police provide update on deadly shooting at bus stop on March 4, 2024.

A 17-year-old boy was killed by gunfire at Ogontz and Godfrey avenues.

“It definitely appears that this individual, our decedent, was targeted. The bus is stopped, people are starting to board the bus, and that’s when we have two individuals come up and start to fire, shooting him and unfortunately killing him,” said Bethel.

Two women, aged 49 and 71, were shot while on a Route 6 SEPTA bus. Bethel says the 49-year-old suffered a graze wound and the 71-year-old was shot in the head. Both women suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a 15-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet and ran down the street to the 2000 block of Medary Avenue, where he was found by police.

Bethel says a fifth victim, also a 15-year-old boy, walked into the hospital suffering from a graze wound in connection with the shooting.

Both 15-year-olds are listed as stable.

Chopper 6 was overhead as police cordoned off the Route 6 bus that came to a stop on the 1600 block Limekiln Pike.

According to Bethel, roughly 15 to 20 were waiting for the bus when the barrage of bullets were fired. We counted around 50 police markers at the scene.

The shooting also happened right across the street from a day care. Neighbors we spoke with said they were horrified.

“It’s crazy. They need somebody on these corners when the kids come out of school because for real, it’s a lot of kids that come out,” said Dwight Alexander of Ogontz.

  • Fire damages Parc restaurant’s outdoor dining area in Rittenhouse Square

Fire damages Parc restaurant’s outdoor dining area in Rittenhouse Square

    [ad_1]

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Crews were hard at work outside the Parc restaurant in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square neighborhood Friday morning after an overnight fire damaged part of the outdoor dining area.

Fire crews responded just after 1:30 a.m. to find part of the structure engulfed in flames.

The flames grew so high they even licked the side of the building that also has an apartment building above.

It took about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Sources who viewed surveillance video say it appears homeless people were using the outdoor “streetery” and set a fire. They were reportedly seen running out after the fire started.

Residents say at night, the outdoor dining structures often have homeless seeking shelter. The “streeteries” became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s really scary, nerve-racking. It could happen at any time,” said Samantha Schwartz of Rittenhouse Square.

The fire did not damage the actual restaurant inside, which continued with dining service as normal on Friday night.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating.

The injured officer was rushed to Temple University Hospital and listed in stable condition.

“I’ve been here too many times. It is unacceptable that my officers, my men and women, are shot on these streets in the City of Philadelphia,” said Bethel.

  • Philadelphia police arrest man believed to have helped teen murder suspect after escape

Philadelphia police arrest man believed to have helped teen murder suspect after escape

    [ad_1]

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police said they have made an arrest in connection to an escaped teen murder suspect. The announcement comes after authorities said they were questioning a person who they believed picked up 17-year-old Shane Pryor after he escaped from an emergency room parking lot at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia earlier this week.

Police say they have apprehended 18-year-old Michael Diggs.

Pryor, who was in custody for a 2020 murder of Tanya Harris, escaped late Wednesday morning while being transported by Juvenile Justice Services Center staffers after injuring his hand at the center. It is not known how the injury occurred.

Investigators said information suggested that Pryor had been picked up by an individual driving a cream-colored Ford shortly after his escape Wednesday. Later that day, police stopped a vehicle matching that description in they city’s Germantown section at Wakefield Street and Logan Avenue, and took two people in for questioning, including Diggs.

Diggs has formally been charged with hindering apprehension, and criminal conspiracy, among other charges.

“The arrest marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to bring all those involved in the incident to justice,” police said Friday.

New video released Thursday shows Pryor moments after he escaped from the parking lot in University City.

At about 11:55 a.m., he was seen on surveillance video in the lobby of the Hub for Clinical Collaboration building, which is located across the street from the main hospital, according to U.S. Marshals. Pryor asked an employee to use a phone and, after being denied, he left.

By 12:29 p.m., investigators believe Pryor obtained a ride out of University City.

He was not handcuffed when he fled, police said, and it wasn’t known whether he was able to get out of his restraints or if he wasn’t restrained at all.

Police say Pryor was last seen heading from the area of 34th and Spruce streets to University Avenue and Civic Center Boulevard.

Pryor was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, socks and slides. Police say he may have since taken off the sweatshirt.

He is 5’7″ tall and weighs 180 pounds.

“We know from our investigation so far, looking at a lot of video, that he was able to go in and out of a few buildings in this area,” Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore told reporters. “Pryor was seen talking to people “asking for a phone … whatever he could do to leave the area.”

Pryor has been on the run for three days and is considered dangerous, police said. His defense attorney Paul DiMaio said his client “has always maintained his innocence,” even in his initial statement to police.

Philadelphia Police news conference on escaped inmate in University City

Police were searching the buildings and using canines to search large multi-level parking garages, but no lockdowns had been imposed, he said. Officers were also checking the homes of his relatives in other parts of the city, Vanore said.

A reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Pryor’s arrest is being offered by the U.S. Marshals Service.

“Shane Pryor is a dangerous and desperate individual and we will use every available resource to bring him back into custody,” said Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal. “Anyone who is found assisting him in his flight will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

In December, a judge denied his bit to have the case moved back to juvenile court, which could have something to do with his client’s decision to flee.

“He may have felt he wasn’t going to get a fair shake,” DiMaio said, adding, “He needs to turn himself in and he needs to do whatever we need to do to fight this case.”

Pryor’s mother is also urging her son to turn himself in.

“Just turn yourself in so it don’t get any worse than it has to be… mommy is fighting for you, I’ll always be fighting for you,” she said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or dial 911.
