  • Read Emmanuel Macron’s Heartfelt Tribute to Pharrell Williams

    [ad_1]

He looked back at every highlight of Pharrell’s career, from the Neptunes to hits produced for Jay-Z and Britney Spears, including, of course, the hit song “Happy,” which elevated the singer to international stardom. “The irresistible lyrics of this soundtrack, composed for Despicable Me, a movie made from a French studio, travelled far beyond cinema screens,” Macron said. “Its rhythm spread and you became the man who made the world dance in unison.”

“But Pharrell,” he continued, “with you, creation is never confined to a single art.”

On February 4, 2023, fashion house Louis Vuitton shook up the fashion world with the announcement that Pharrell was to become artistic director of its men’s collections.

Vuitton selected Pharrell “for your irreverence, your boundless creativity, and your total commitment. And from the very first year, you delivered with a spectacular debut collection, unveiled during a landmark show on the Pont Neuf, transformed for the occasion into a golden stage,” Macron said. “The world discovered the silhouettes you had imagined: the Louis Vuitton Damier reinterpreted as bold pixelated camouflage, boldly paired with denim, tailoring, or with unexpected hats and accessories.”

It was, Macron said, “a manifesto show, in your own image, expressing a vision of masculinity liberated from clichés. And you went even further at UNESCO in 2024, where your new collection carried a universal message—a call for unity among humankind, beneath the United Nations flags at the Place de Fontenoy.”

The tribute was also an opportunity to talk about Pharrell’s connection with contemporary art, into which he continues to infuse historical references, pop culture, and a sense of performance: “Moving from musician to exhibition curator might have made others hesitate. But not you. You didn’t shy away from experimenting—not even when it meant being cast in a mold, remaining immobile for hours, breathing through a straw, so that Daniel Arsham could create a sculpture in your likeness. After all, you always sought to learn from the very best, and to create alongside them.”

Macron, who recalled Williams’ participation in the Pièces Jaunes concert with his wife Brigitte Macron, didn’t shy away from commenting on the rigorous lifestyle and discipline of the artist.

“Dear Pharrell, listing all your achievements would be impossible: you have the rare ability to live a thousand passions within a single lifetime,” he said. “You managed to do so because you are incredibly talented, but also thanks to your steadfast discipline that could intimidate even an Olympic athlete. A five a.m. wake-up call. Five hundred sit-ups. Meditation. A hot bath, a cold shower—and sometimes even a burst of songwriting in the bathroom itself.”

Beyond routine, however, is something less tangible, he said. “Behind the brilliance of your success lies this daily rigor. But also a guiding principle to which you remain deeply faithful: gratitude. Gratitude for the journey that brought you here, allowing you, despite worldwide recognition, to remain the humble, witty, and deeply human creator so admired by your teams.”

Something In The Water Ain’t Clean: Pharrell Williams Cancels Annual Festival Hours After Tickets Go On Sale

Pharrell Williams has canceled his annual music festival, Something In the Water, hours after tickets for the Virginia-based event went on sale.

Though fans lined up for early access to tickets for locals, organizers confirmed that the event was officially cancelled and rescheduled for April 2025 mere hours later. Williams posted a statement to the official Instagram page for the event.

“Virginia doesn’t deserve better, Virginia deserves THE BEST. So SOMETHING IN THE WATER has to match that. It just isn’t ready yet. That’s why we have decided we must postpone this year’s SOMETHING IN THE WATER that was due to take place in October,” the statement reads. “This is not a Pharrell festival, this is the state of Virginia’s festival so it has to be the best.”

The festival has not been without its fair share of issues since its inception as this seems to be the latest in its growing pains. In 2021, Williams moved the festival to Washington, DC following the Virginia Beach police department’s mishandling of the killing of his cousin, Donovon Lynch. The following year, SITW returned to its location of origin, but inclement weather caused the cancellation of an entire day of the festival.

Nevertheless, Pharrell is keeping busy promoting Lego-animated documentary film Piece by Piece. In his cover story with The Hollywood Reporterthe producer-songwriter opened up about his journey through the entertainment industry as well as his current relationship with his longtime Neptunes collaborator, Chad Hugo.

“I always wish him the absolute best,” Pharrell said of Hugo before confirming the two were not on speaking terms. “But I love him and I’m very grateful for our time together.”

The strain on the relationship between the two hitmakers came to a head earlier this year when Hugo filed a lawsuit against his former collaborator. His allegations stemmed from alleged trademark applications filed by Williams for the duo’s N.E.R.D band name, his Miami hotel and other endeavors without consulting Hugo.

“Throughout their over 30 year history, [Hugo] and Williams agreed to, and in fact, have divided all assets,” Hugo’s attorney Kenneth D. Freundlich stated. “By ignoring and excluding [Hugo] from the any and all applications filed by applicant for the mark ‘The Neptunes,’ applicant has committed fraud in securing the trademarks and acted in bad faith.”

Here’s to hoping the two can find a way to make amends.

  • Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To

Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To

    [ad_1]

It feels like it’s been a minute since the last Weekend Playlist…hasn’t it? I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and maybe took some much needed time off work and socials. Unfortunately, we are in the dead of winter, which means I’m losing steam quickly.

Call it seasonal depression, winter blues, you name it…I have it. But the one thing that keeps me going day after day is new music. I’ve been going through my Spotify Daylist lately- which continuously keeps calling me a writer, and I’m wondering how it knows – and wracking through old songs that are new to my ears. The good news? It’s Friday.

I’m sure absence has made the heart grow vastly fonder, which is why I’m back with another week’s work of music. New music releases make the world go round. The one constant in life is that every Friday, someone somewhere is releasing some sort of music.

This week is no different…so as always, let’s get listening!

    Noah Kahan, Sam Fender- “Homesick”

If this were the Avengers, Noah Kahan would be Thanos- except his Infinity Stones are ultimate collaborations on his album and the goal were giving listeners music they deserve. This time, he hits a home run with Sam Fender, who puts his own spin on what it means for him to feel homesick. It’s both the yearning to leave and the need to go back that holds us hostage to our hometowns, and they nail it with this duet. About the collab, Fender says,

“I was told Noah wanted us to work together, and I’d heard the tune ‘Homesick’and thought it was a lush song. We then spoke on the phone and immediately hit it off. I lovedthe idea of the song being a transatlantic call-and-response between two young kids desperateto escape their hometowns. The ‘running away’ theme has been done to death by myself, andmany other artists over the last 50 years, but it’s relatable.”

Becky Hill, Sonny Fodera- “Never Be Alone”

I spoke to Becky Hill a few months ago about her upcoming music, which she promised to be your essential club vibe that pays homage to the beats you love partying to. Now, here we are with her newest single, “Never Be Alone”, and it’s a certified banger. If you want a song that makes you want to drink, dance, and be merry with your friends…let me introduce you to Becky.

She’s someone who’s always understood the assignment: be true to your music, to the sound that drives you and made you fall in love with the art, and deliver your twist on it. “Never Be Alone” sets up the Year of Becky Hill: a soloist in her own right, whose vocal power eclipses the production beat behind it.

    Bleachers- “Tiny Moves”

Jack Antonoff and Mikey Freedom Hart’s band, Bleachers, is known for their indie-beach rock sound. Both relaxing and introspective, Bleachers constantly gives us an alternative sound that scratches an itch we didn’t know we had. With an ethereal, coming-of-age sound, “Tiny Moves” is a love song that feels straight out of a movie.

Bleachers sings about that feeling when every move your partner makes feels special and ground-shattering, how your love for them can feel all-consuming. It’s an all-encompassing song: chill in the right places, melancholic and lovesick in others.

    David Kushner- “Skin and Bones”

The next Hozier, David Kushner has perfected the soulful, gospel-esque dark academia vibe that is quintessential winter. His voice is haunting, with echos that make it sound as if he were singing just to you- “Skin and Bones” takes everything you love about David Kushner’s sound and transforms it into a religious experience.

“Skin and Bones” continues to prove to us that the pop-folk genre made popular by names like The Lumineers and Bon Iver has room to expand and can be taken to new heights everyday.

Pharrell, Mumford & Sons- “Good People”

Soulful, stomp-and-holler, a collaboration you didn’t know we needed…Mumford & Sons and ultimate producer-singer-songwriter Pharrell have your classic soulful tune. “Good People” welcomes you to the revelation with your ultimate blend of rock, folk, and a harmonious concoction of vocals and callbacks that make you want to simply stomp your feet and holler along.

There truly is nothing in the world like a Mumford & Sons harmony behind a strong Pharrell sound…which is why “Good People” is one of the best songs on the playlist today.

A Brief Recap Of The Rapper’s Exchange With Nicki Minaj

As The Shade Room previously reported, Ye also went viral on Friday after an exclusive video obtained by the outlet showed the rapper responding to Nicki Minaj’s refusal to clear her verse on “New Body.”

The song is featured on Ye’s upcoming album, ‘Vultures,’ with Ty Dolla $ign.

The trio reportedly began working on the single in 2018. However, Ye allegedly refused to release the single in the following years despite Minaj’s interest, per Page Six.

On Thursday evening, Minaj rejected Ye’s request to clear her vocals on the single by simply stating. “that train has left the station.” Additionally, Minaj seemingly explained that her current priority is focusing on the release of her most recent album, ‘Pink Friday 2.’

“It Changed My Life”: Pharrell Williams on His New Role and First Collection for Louis Vuitton

    [ad_1]

“I came into this knowing that I wanted to make some serious indelible marks,” Pharrell Williams tells Vanity Fair of his role as men’s creative director for Louis Vuitton. On Tuesday, the Grammy Award–winner debuted his highly anticipated first collection in his newly appointed position. The decision, announced earlier this year on Valentine’s Day, sent the fashion industry into a spiral with a plethora of questions: Why Williams—best known for his music career—and not an established designer? Would he have what it takes? Does celebrity mean more than talent?

    Courtesy of Louis Vuitton

With Paris as the backdrop, a carefully selected cast of models, orchestra, and the Voices of Fire choir took the main stage across the Pont Neuf (the oldest standing bridge across the Seine River), with a runway covered in the iconic Damier pattern that Williams chose to highlight as the key component in his new collection. “I know the monogram is historically a very dominant force within the house. I had the Bastille bag in Damier, I had shoes and boots in Damier. I saw it as an opportunity. The fact that it has the chessboard setup, we could use the grid as a platform to play with different artistic techniques,” shares Williams.

Choosing to pixelate the Damier, Williams collaborated with ET Artist, who treated the blocks like eight-bit Atari graphics, including pixelated images of Pont Neuf. From there, the Damoflage was born, seen in three hues across accessories, workwear, indigo denim, pajama silhouettes, and in the intarsia of knitwear and furs. Williams also enlisted artist Henry Taylor to create artwork of figures embroidered on Alma bags.

For his debut, Williams focused on stylish details that trumpeted the return of cool, with pearl-adorned sunglasses, band-collared tunics, workwear remixes on jackets reminiscent of the traditional Parisian women’s wardrobe, box-pleat shorts juxtaposed with suits, glazed penny loafers, flower pendants, nubuck bowling shoes, and magnified shearling slippers in monogram intarsia with a bear’s footprint on the bottom. All part of the signature touches that set his collection apart.

  • Niall Horan Has A Skincare Routine…Do You?

Niall Horan Has A Skincare Routine…Do You?

    [ad_1]

I’ve been carefully curating my skincare routine for over a year now. Par for the course, skincare related TikToks have been flooding my FYP, selling me every trendy product on the block. Whether or not they work is a different question. I’ve fallen for gimmicks, traps, and cute packaging, but I’ve also found a solid 6-step routine.

I advertise skincare to everyone I meet, because who doesn’t want to stay as effervescent and youthful looking as possible? Not only can you get rid of the texture, redness, and acne we all deal with…but you literally can delay the aging process. If I only do one thing daily to take care of myself, it’s going to be my skincare routine.

My toughest crowd, however, has been men. While we all have skin, which needs care just like the inside of our bodies do, I have yet to meet many men who have figured out a skincare routine for themselves.

Maybe it’s because of masculinity. The patriarchy, at it again! Since the beauty industry is catered towards women, it’s an impossible task to break through and convince men that these pots of fragranced creams and tubes of scented gels are worth smearing on your face twice a day. But I’m here to change all that.

I’m of the firm belief that everyone can benefit from makeup and skincare – not just women. We all wake up, look in the mirror, and think we look a little tired…or see a new pimple on the horizon and want to eliminate it immediately from our faces. So what’s the harm with dabbing a bit of makeup to make us look – and feel – immensely better about our appearance? Nothing.

Your favorite male celebrities wear makeup daily. That’s right, even Tom Cruise is sporting concealer while doing all those stunts. And maybe even a layer of blush. Brad Pitt and Pharrell even have skincare brands of their own.

Niall Horan, judge on this season of The Voice and former member of One Direction, recently went on Vogue’s Beauty Secrets to share his 22-step beauty routine…and while I’m not saying every man needs a 22 step routine, his recommendations are a great foundation for any man.

He says it himself: “Look fab, feel fab.”

While walking us through his luxurious routine, Horan muses why more men don’t have a routine. “I think with men…we’re getting better at it! Everyone’s always kind of against the skincare thing and I don’t really know why. It’s like, do we give up some of our masculinity if we admit to using moisturizer?”

So if you’re looking to start a routine…or you’re looking to inspire your boyfriend, brother, friend, or family member…take it from Niall. Here are my favorite steps from his routine that anyone can follow!

CLEANSER: Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse

Of course Niall enjoys nothing but the best for his skin…and this Sarah Chapman Cleanser is no exception. With peptides and Vitamin A for anti-aging properties and Vitamin C for brightening, this cleanser gets deep in your pores to purify while removing makeup and impurities.

MASK: Make Beauty Micro Crystalline Exfoliating Face Mask

Exfoliation helps get dead skin cells off your face, giving you a moisturized, glowing surface. Niall recommends doing this a few times a week at least, crediting the Make Beauty Face Mask as his savior. A mask is easy to use, low maintenance, and not necessary for everyday…perfect for the male skincare routine.

EYE MASK: Jaxon Lane Bro Mask Eye Gels

Jaxon Lane makes skincare targeted towards men, and these Bro Mask Eye Gels make a routine feel easy. Bring these bad boys anywhere, wear them in the car on the way to work or put them on before you go out. They’ll de-puff and brighten up those tired under eyes.

MIST: Allies of Skin Molecular Saviour Probiotics Treatment

If you’re someone who doesn’t have the time for a routine, a mist will be your BFF. The Allies of Skin Mist is Niall’s favorite, and contains Niacinamide and Amino Acids to wake up your skin and restore its youthful bounce. It soothes redness and helps your hydration levels without you having to work hard at it.

    SERUM: Osea Essential Hydrating Oil

Osea is known for their hydrating products, and this oil will be your best friend. With jojoba and macadamia oils, Osea has created the ultimate moisturizing oil that will reduce the appearance of fine lines while maintaining your skin’s elasticity. If you have one serum, make it this.

EYE CREAM: Ilia Bright Start Retinol Eye Cream

What I love about the Ilia Eye Cream is that it can be applied directly onto your face. You don’t have to dip your finger into a pot, and the metal applicator feels cooling on your under eyes. The retinol will aid with wrinkles, puffiness, dark circles, and more over time.

SUNSCREEN: Jaxon Lane Rain Or Shine Sunscreen

Sunscreen may not seem important year round…but Niall Horan knows his Irish skin is sensitive even when you don’t necessarily see the sun. If you experience redness or irritation seemingly out of nowhere, chances are it’s the sun’s fault. Using sunscreen in the morning will help prevent damage and slows down the aging process. A necessity if I’ve ever heard one.
