Found: The Most-Wanted Floral Perfumes at Nordstrom and Net-a-Porter Right Now

    [ad_1]

When it comes to fragrance, many of us know what we like and, even more vehemently, what we don’t. Within all the perfume categories—woody, fruity, fresh, spicy, floral—the latter might be the most controversial and misunderstood. After all, flashbacks to grandma’s lace-trimmed sacks of potpourri or powdery bottles of rose or gardenia are hard to erase from a scarred memory.

However, if done right, nothing is chicer or more sophisticated than a truly exquisite floral fragrance, and certain flowery blends have become top-selling favorites at beloved retailers like Nordstrom and Net-a-Porter. Curious to see what your fellow fragrance enthusiasts are loving within the floral perfume pool? We rounded up 16 of the most covetable bottles you can buy at the aforementioned stores. From classics like Chanel Nº5 to newer debuts from brands like Byredo, this crop of best-of-the-best floral scents is bound to turn you into a blossom lover through and through (if you weren’t one already). • 19 Perfumes That Smell Like Fresh Laundry (in the Best Way Possible)

19 Perfumes That Smell Like Fresh Laundry (in the Best Way Possible)

    [ad_1]

I think we can all envision what it means to smell dirty, but what about smelling clean? It’s a harder concept to grasp since there are so many different interpretations of what it means to smell clean. To me, cleanness is the smell of fresh laundry straight out of the dryer, an empty street just after a rainstorm, or a squeeze of bright, fresh citrus

I think the biggest thing about a clean scent, though, is that you know it when you smell it. I’m obsessed with fragrance, and I have plenty of scents I’ve labeled in my mind as “clean smelling” that I rotate through my fragrance collection. The biggest similarity they have is that the best clean perfumes always make me feel fresh and new—like a blank slate. I wear them when I want to feel like I’m giving myself a new start. Keep reading to find my favorite clean-smelling scents. Some may even catch you by surprise.

Not only are their fragrances fairly affordable, but they’re also incredibly unique.

How to Find a New Signature Scent for Spring, According to Fragrance Experts

    [ad_1]

“The fragrance industry has seriously stepped up their game, and so has the fragrance consumer. Thanks to Perfume TikTok, we’re all experts and expect the best. When selecting your spring scent, consider a citrus or floral that has a personality. Something with a backbone. Gone are the days of fleeting top notes, we want perfumes that last. You can achieve this by looking for base notes of woods, musk, amber or tonka bean. Great examples of perfumes that have managed to capture the spirit of spring with the performance of a perfume are Green Pearl by Thameen London, Instant Crush by Mancera Paris, and Moss+ Bold by Commodity.”

I Tested Dossier’s Under-$55 Dupes for Le Labo, Chanel, and More—These Impressed

    [ad_1]

If you’ve been following Who What Wear Beauty for a while now, you already know we lean a tad fiendish when it comes to scent and the art of smelling good. Unfortunately for us and our wallets, however, the majority of our all-time favorite perfumes cost a pretty penny—sometimes upward of $200 and $300. Even though I don’t necessarily mind investing in high-quality scents that I love, affordable price points shouldn’t just be reserved for the cheap fares that we spritzed over our layered polos and tanks circa middle school.

And that’s exactly where Dossier comes in. It’s an affordable, alternative fragrance line that you might already be familiar with (thanks, TikTok) but prides itself on providing fragrance lovers with “premium-quality, ethical, affordable perfume for all.” And really, the brand is low-key serving us the best of all worlds when it comes to fragrance: transparency, craftsmanship (with every bottle, you’re receiving the highest-quality perfume sourced from Grasse, France), clean formulas (fragrances are vegan, eco-friendly, and 100% nontoxic and cruelty-free), sustainable and green (Dossier even gives returned bottles to charity), and anti-snob access that allows the masses to enjoy more affordable iterations of some of the most loved scents in the business. Brilliant, right?

  • Eau de Toilette vs. Eau de Parfum: How to Choose Your Ultimate Formula

Eau de Toilette vs. Eau de Parfum: How to Choose Your Ultimate Formula

    [ad_1]

To accurately determine the many differences between eau de parfum and eau de toilette, I caught up with fragrance and beauty expert Funmi Monet who, in addition to being a licensed therapist, has built a large social media following (350,000+ on TikTok) on tips, tricks, and recommendations for the fragrance enthusiast and novice alike. In fact, she is affectionately known on the app as “your fave fragrance auntie.” She shared that one of the main differences between eau de parfum and eau de toilette is the perfume oil concentration.

“Eau de toilette generally has a perfume oil concentration between 8% and 12% while eau de parfum can have a perfume oil concentration between 12% to 18%,” Monet says. According to her, the oil concentration of an eau de parfum or eau toilette shouldn’t sway a fragrance novice one way or the other, as a higher concentration doesn’t necessarily mean the former is ‘better.’ She contributes this to the unique composition of fragrances that possess different elements. This, in turn, “makes each level of intensity relevant to the experience of the wearer.”

7 British Fragrance Brands Editors Are Obsessed With

    [ad_1]

While France is renowned for its perfume industry, with some of the famous perfumeries hail on UK soil. British perfumers are beginning to shake things up, with industry heavyweights such a Jo Malone London long flying the flag and more niche perfume brands stepping on the scene. British perfume brands are expanding and creating scents to meet the standards of even the most sophisticated noses.

”Fragrance is still dominated by France, and for good reason—they have a long history of amazing perfumers and fragrance production,” says Ruth Mastenbroek, founder of Ruth Mastenbroek Perfumer London. “We have so much amazing natural beauty on our British shores, and it is this perspective that I feel British perfumery can bring to the world. I am inspired by my surroundings and family connections who originate from across the British Isles; a Welsh mother, Irish grandmother, English father and Scottish ancestors. I feel compelled to tell the story of my own life experiences and to conjure this up through unexpected and original fragrances” she explains.

Perfumes are certainly subjective, yet some brands seem to always knock it out of the park, think the likes of Chanel, Le Labo and Hermès, to name but a few. However, the British perfumery industry is hot on their tails, with not only long standing brands but new talent making a mark for  themselves within the industry and among consumers.

  • Whenever Someone Asks Me What Perfume I’m Wearing, It’s Almost Always This Brand

Whenever Someone Asks Me What Perfume I’m Wearing, It’s Almost Always This Brand

    [ad_1]

Not to toot my own horn but over the years, I’ve developed a sort of knack when it comes to perfume-induced compliment quotients. It’s part of my job to test practically every new fragrance that lands on the market, and anyone close to me in life can attest that my office desk (RIP), bathroom vanity, and dresser are so completely congested with bottles and nozzles that you can’t even spot land. (Literally, you would need a compass and treasure map to find an open space.)

Of course, I have personal favorites and signatures I’m especially partial to, but most days, I’m experimenting with a completely new scent. And trust me. When you’re getting around that much in the scent circuit, you start to notice patterns and coincidences when you wear certain brands or scent families. For instance, when I wore a different perfume every single day for a month, the vanilla-spiked fragrances earned me the most admirable comments and exclamations like, “Oh my God, what are you wearing?!” I’ve also noticed that every single time I wear perfume from legendary Italian brand Gucci, I get compliments as well. (Compliments, of course, aren’t everything. If I love a perfume, I’ll wear it regardless of what anyone else thinks, but there is something special about smelling just damn enchanting, am I right?)

Since I’ve been getting lots of questions about my favorite Gucci perfumes lately, I put together a star-studded list featuring 10 of the brand’s standout perfumes. After rating my own favorites and taking into account the reviews and ratings at top retailers, I feel pretty confident saying these are the all-time best Gucci perfumes ever made. Keep scrolling and pick your poison.

  • I’m a Perfume Snob, But These High-Street Fragrances Smell So Expensive

I’m a Perfume Snob, But These High-Street Fragrances Smell So Expensive

    [ad_1]

With brands such as Jo Loves (which was founded by fragrance royalty Jo Malone) pairing with stores like Zara, high-street fragrances have shed their sickly sweet reputation and become seriously sophisticated. In fact, you can probably find a perfume dupe on the high street—or at least something very similar—for the most popular fragrances nowadays. So you don’t always have to break the budget to smell expensive. Whether you like clean-smelling fragrances or fruity scents or want to find your signature perfume on a budget, high-street brands H&M, Marks and Spencer, & Other Stories, The Body Shop and Zara are really leading the way for more affordable high-street perfumes.

To help you find your new high-street fragrance, I’ve found the best sellers from each store and put them to the test, matching them and their notes to their more expensive counterparts. And I have to say, these are now permanent fixtures on my fragrance shelf alongside my premium favorites.

  • Out of 67 “Best-Ever” Perfumes, Our Editors Tested and Chose the Top 15

Out of 67 “Best-Ever” Perfumes, Our Editors Tested and Chose the Top 15

    [ad_1]

To adequately test perfumes, I decided to ask my fellow editors to give all 24 fragrances a smell test with me. I wanted to ensure brand loyalty wouldn’t get in the way, so I covered the bottles and numbered each perfume to allow unbiased testing. In a questionnaire, I put numbers one through 10 under every fragrance so people could circle the number they think a fragrance deserves, with 10 being the highest option.

From there, we all got together and sprayed some fragrances, sniffing coffee beans between each scent to refresh our senses. After every scent, I gave each editor time to figure out their thoughts on each fragrance, tell me what they thought it smelled like, and rate it before I revealed the fragrance name. With so many iconic fragrances in our midsts, a lot of people were shocked by the outcomes. I won’t name names, but one of the most consistently popular fragrances on nearly every best-of list got a one out of 10, while some of our highest rankers were fairly unknown.

After testing in a group, I assigned each editor fragrances to take on a test run. I asked them if they could wear each fragrance for at least a day and report back to me on longevity, skin scent, compliments received, and how they would describe each fragrance after wearing it.

Keep in mind when looking at these numbers that these fragrances were tested by nine extremely picky editors who have very high standards when it comes to fragrance—and different tastes. The average score of the 24 fragrances we tested was a 5.8. With that in mind, the following fragrances soared above the rest.

“Desert Nomad is one of my go-to day-to-day fragrances. Think dry, smoky, and woodsy (it’s often described as a total smokeshow bottled, according to the brand) thanks to the blend of ginger, bergamot, neroli, pepper, iris, clary sage, sandalwood, palo santo, and vetiver. It’s a composition of notes that I wouldn’t think I’d like if I hadn’t smelled this perfume, but the way it plays out once it’s on your skin is really special. Lots of woodsy scents translate really heavy and cloying to me—this one doesn’t. It’s subtle but addicting!”

A Definitive Ranking of the Best YSL Perfumes of All Time

    [ad_1]

It’s no secret Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most coveted design labels on the planet, and the brand’s collection of beauty products—its boldly composed perfumes, in particular—is no exception. For some context, Algeria-born Yves Saint Laurent moved to Paris as a teen, where he worked for designer Christian Dior until he began his own namesake label in 1961 alongside his partner Pierre Bergé. Of course, fashion was the preliminary focus, but by the ’70s, Saint Laurent had begun his foray into the beauty space. (Fun fact: As Vanity Fair reported here, YSL was actually the first makeup and fragrance brand to have a fashion house’s name attached to it.)

Makeup ensued, followed by fragrance and skincare, and today, YSL perfumes are some of the most wanted and coveted in the business. Another fun fact? Zoë Kravitz is the spokesperson for YSL’s famed perfume Black Opium, and her famous father, Lenny Kravitz, was recently named the new ambassador for its Y Eau de Parfum. We receive tons of questions asking which YSL perfumes are the “best” or which bottles we recommend, specifically, as editors. So we thought we’d create a fun ode to YSL and its iconic line of scents.

  • You’ll Always Get Compliments When You Wear This Type of Perfume in the Winter

You’ll Always Get Compliments When You Wear This Type of Perfume in the Winter

    [ad_1]

When colder weather is upon us, we often find ourselves overhauling any and every ritual associated with the warmer months. On the fashion side, that means developing a new rotation of shoes and replacing tanks with sweaters. Where beauty is concerned, it can mean swapping your lightweight, gel-based products for a heavier skincare routine. Sometimes, we find ourselves so immersed in other endeavors that it can be easy to overlook the need to swap our summery fragrances for the best perfumes of the season. However, the task becomes pretty easy once you’re in on the secret behind compliments all winter long: amber perfumes.

Okay, so what’s an amber perfume, and why do you need it? Do you know how, every year, certain things leave you with a warm, cozy feeling (maybe it’s a song or a movie)? Amber perfume is that feeling in a bottle, which explains why people will immediately flock to you when you’re wearing it.

In truth, amber is often not an actual perfume ingredient but instead is a full-bodied, savory scent created with the combination of some key ingredients. Think comforting touches of vanilla and patchouli. In a nutshell, it’s your “cuddle up by a fire, happy place” fragrance. You won’t be short of amber perfumes to fall in love with, if you’re looking for a place to start, we’ve rounded up the 10 you should consider first below.
