Brandy and Monica may have been the main event, but the stop in Newark cemented the tour’s legacy. The energy and success of the entire run are a culmination of a history that spans more than 27 years. The performance at the Prudential Center marked one of the final stops before the tour’s conclusion, and it drew a who’s who of music royalty.

After the Boys Is Mine Tour NJ stop, Monica quickly shared photos and videos on Instagram, giving a public shout-out to the women who were present to support the tour. Monica thanked Kelly Rowland, who has opened for the tour on several dates, for being a “class act” and for the “admirable” bond she shares with Beyoncé.

Monica continued: “You ladies and your family have always shown me genuine love. And [Solange], how I adore you. I love all three of you.”

After the concert, clips show Bey and her daughter Rumi greeting Monica. Rumi is seemingly a huge Monica fan as she shyly said, “Hi Monica.” The mother-daughter duo also spoke with legend Patti LaBelle, who joined Kelly on stage earlier in the evening.

The Newark stop of the tour marks the second show that Beyoncé attended in support of her former Destiny’s Child sister, Monica, and Brandy.

The rest of the Carter family also attended, as clips report Jay-Z and Blue Ivy (who seems to be almost as tall as her dad!) backstage with Beyoncé and Auntie Solange.

According to Rap-Up, the stage at the Prudential Center was also packed with performances. Surprise appearances added extra star power to the already impressive lineup. Ne-Yo delivered the “smoothest vibes and countless hits,” including a performance of his classic hit, “So Sick.” He was joined by Lola Brooke, who performed “Don’t Play With It.”

The tour’s massive success has been noted by the entire industry. Previous stops have featured stars like Rihanna and Queen Latifah. Kehlani even paid tribute to Brandy during an earlier stop, calling her “Our vocal bible, our Black Cinderella,” cementing the importance of this reunion in R&B history. She also performed her current hit “Folded” for fans.

The Thursday night stop in Houston, TX also saw a celebrity fest as stars like Law Roach, Nas, JT, and Lala Anthony sat in the front row. Ciara, Fat Joe, and Max B also provided performances.

During the Boy Is Mine Tour NJ stop, Monica took a moment to thank her co-headliner, Brandy, for their renewed partnership. She wrote, “Creating history together 27 years and counting! I’ve enjoyed watching the world celebrate your gift as you step further into your purpose!”

This public acknowledgment underscores just how far the two have come after years of on-again-off-again friendship. This final stretch of The Boys Is Mine Tour cements the tour’s status as a cultural homecoming, celebrating the growth and sisterhood of the two R&B legends.

  • Patti LaBelle Pays Tribute To Tina Turner With Soul-Stirring 2023 BET Awards Performance

Patti LaBelle Pays Tribute To Tina Turner With Soul-Stirring 2023 BET Awards Performance

    [ad_1]

    By Mekishana Pierre‍ , ETOnline.com.

Simply the best. On Sunday night, Patti LaBelle paid tribute to her late friend and musical icon, Tina Turner, with a soul-stirring performance during the BET Awards.

LaBelle took the stage to honor the incomparable Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, showcasing her incredible talent and capturing the essence of Turner’s unparalleled legacy.

The BET Awards audience was treated to LaBelle’s performance of Turner’s hit, “The Best.”

Turner died peacefully after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, last month. She was 83.

Turner’s rep confirmed the sad news in a statement to ET and reflected on the “Proud Mary” singer’s unique legacy and the impact she made on rock music.

“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” the statement read.

“Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA. She became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue, but later she became successful worldwide as a solo artist. With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations,” the statement continued. “Global hits like ‘What’s Love Got To Do With it,’ ‘Private Dancer’ and ‘The Best,’ more than 180 million albums sold, 12 GRAMMY Awards and over three decades of sold-out stadium tours around the world are just part of her unique legacy.”

Oprah WinfreyBeyonceCherAngela Bassett, who played Turner in the 1993 biographical film, What’s Love Got to Do With It; Diana Ross; President Barack Obama; Dolly Parton; Mick Jagger; and more stars remembered the music icon.

And on May 25, BET paid tribute to the singer with an exclusive Entertainment Tonight news special, “BET & ET Present Tina Turner: Life and Legacy”.

The one-hour special featured over 40 years of archival footage from ET’s vault and highlights from more than 30 interviews with 12-time GRAMMY winner and two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Turner at various stages of her life as she reflects on her career. It also recounts definitive moments in Turner’s life, including how she didn’t think her 1984 best-selling single, “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” would become a worldwide hit, her dream of becoming an actor and never giving up on finding true love.

Turner is survived by her husband, German music executive Erwin Bach, whom she married in 2013, and adopted sons Michael and Ike Jr. Her sons, Ronnie Turner and Craig Turner, died in December 2022 and July 2018, respectively.

Patti LaBelle was abruptly rushed off stage just a couple of songs into her Christmas concert in Milwaukee after a bomb threat forced authorities to evacuate the theater.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that video from the Riverside Theater on Saturday night shows what appears to be two security officers interrupting the 78-year-old LaBelle as she chats with an audience member. They rushed her off stage. Shortly after, someone announced that the nearly full 2,500-seat theater had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat.

Catherine Brunson, who documented the evacuation on Facebook Live, told the newspaper that the evacuation happened two songs into LaBelle’s concert around 9:24 p.m.

“We came out and police had the block taped off. … A whole lot of people were pretty upset. … It’s scary,” Brunson said.

Scott Pierce, who also attended the concert, said everyone exited the theater calmly, but it’s “just sad that someone does this.”

Milwaukee Police Capt. Warren Allen Jr. said in a statement early Sunday that K9 units searched the theater and no explosive devices were discovered, so there was no threat to the public.

As of Sunday morning, LaBelle hadn’t issued a statement about the evacuation on social media. The operator of the Riverside Theater, Pabst Theater Group, said it would work with LaBelle to reschedule the show in the future.

“Google me, boo”: Patti LaBelle, still touring at 78, talks iconic career

    [ad_1]

Singer, actress and entrepreneur Patti LaBelle says she isn’t a big star yet — and is still “going to climb higher.”

“As far as me being that real super, super, super superstar woman, I’m not there yet,” the award-winning performer told CBS News.

But she said she’s “pleasant” and happy with who she is: “I’m ecstatic. I love the Patti LaBelle that’s here now.”

She’s been touring for 11 months this year.

“A lot of people, when they meet me, they say ‘Are you still working? Are you still touring?’ I said, ‘Google me, boo,’” LaBelle said. “I’m always on the run. I’m booked, and busy and blessed.”

LaBelle’s steps to stardom began at church when her mother made her go to choir rehearsal after hearing her voice. She recalled having stage fright at the time, and said she didn’t want to sing with other people.

“Once I got there, the choir director says, ‘You should be a lead singer,’” LaBelle recalled.

The two-time Grammy-Award winner said she’s “very shy” to this day, adding that she becomes “a whole ‘nother Patti” on stage.

The performer went on to become the lead vocalist for Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, which rose to national acclaim performing at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Then the group LaBelle was formed, including members Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash. By 1975, the girls had a hit song on their hands with “Lady Marmalade.”

“I knew it was a hit never knowing what it meant though,” LaBelle said of the classic song that features lyrics in French.

LaBelle later became the first Black group to play at New York’s Metropolitan Opera house and the first to ever be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

She said she embraces her referenced “godmother of rock and soul” title.

“It means that I’m good,” she said. “It means that I’m listened to. It means that I’m embraced by a lot of people and I love it.”

Now, the singer has made her mark in the food world with her viral sweet potato pies from her brand, Patti’s Good Life. She plans to expand the brand to include breakfast items inspired by her grandchildren.

When she isn’t cooking, fans can catch her acting in shows and movies like “Greenleaf” or “American Horror Story.” LaBelle said she also has an upcoming album featuring “a lot of surprises.”
