Kirk Cameron Starts Brand New Tour in Baton Rouge

Cameron’s “Living Room Reset” is unlike any other event.

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 17, 2018

With nearly 30 years of marriage under his belt, Christian Hollywood Actor Kirk Cameron is hitting the road for a tour he’s calling “Living Room Reset” and a promise that it will be “unlike any event you’ve ever been to.” And for the first time, his wife Chelsea has created some amazing new content to join the tour via video.

On Jan. 26, Cameron will be packing the living room up in a trailer and will be stopping at The Church International in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to speak and provide resources to help strengthen marriages and child-parent relationships.

I’ve found that through the last 22 years of being a dad, 27 years of being a husband – that there’s nothing our family can’t get through, nothing we can’t figure out if we’ll just gather in the living room and take time to reset a few things, to refocus on the things that really matter.

    Kirk Cameron, Actor/Author/Producer/Speaker

“I’ve found that through the last 22 years of being a dad, 27 years of being a husband – that there’s nothing our family can’t get through, nothing we can’t figure out if we’ll just gather in the living room and take time to reset a few things, to refocus on the things that really matter,” explains Cameron in his YouTube trailer.

The Cameron’s have six children, ages 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21. They hope they can teach moms, dads and kids about growing together, learning together, struggling, falling, and recovering – all while learning to trust God more and serve one another better.

One thing this tour is doing that has never been done before is that Cameron is allowing the attendees in every city to custom tailor the discussions each night to what they want to hear. “When an attendee reserves their seat at KirkCameron.com, they will then be asked to select the content they want to hear. I figured, why waste time talking about topics that don’t need to be discussed,” Cameron commented.

“Whether you want to talk about cherishing your spouse for a lifetime, to the why and the how of forgiveness, to parenting skills,” Cameron explains. “This is going to make no two events the same.”

The tour will also feature special guests, well-known Christian music artists and throwback “Growing Pains” surprises.

The first three dates have been announced with the first one kicking off in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Jan. 26. You can find the complete tour schedule and reserve your seat on Cameron’s website.

Amelia Knows How to Keep the Peace and Prevent Bullying

Online tips are available to teachers during October’s National Bullying Prevention Month

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 2, 2017

In support of Bullying Prevention Month, Amelia teaches students in K-8 how to keep their schools bully free. Amelia is one of six relatable characters developed over decades of research and efficacy. Each character is highly researched and evidenced backed and helps thousands of teachers impart social/emotional learning and character foundation skills. “During October, Amelia is our champion character. She is a teacher’s best tool in supporting Anti-Bullying,” said Linsey Covert the driver behind a growing cloud-based, integrated coursework (TEAMology) that builds stronger, more resilient students.

What gives Amelia her street cred? Well, let’s hear from Amelia herself. “It is ok if students don’t always agree with each other or even like each other. They just need to learn how to celebrate differences, always be respectful and productively cooperate on a TEAM. When you help students build a TEAM culture, there will be no room for bullies.”

It is ok if students don’t always agree with each other or even like each other. They just need to learn how to celebrate differences, always be respectful and productively cooperate on a TEAM. When you help students build a TEAM culture, there will be no room for bullies.

    Amelia

Dr. JoLynn Carney, Penn State University College of Education researcher, joined in the research and development of Project TEAM. “What we always suspected was that creating a positive environment by empowering the students with strong prosocial attitudes and skills would help with bullying problems, other disciplinary issues, and provide a more productive environment for learning and growing. We now have the data that applying this approach with fidelity actually works.”

Jenna St. Mars from Rostraver Elementary School in Belle Vernon, Pa has been utilizing Project TEAM in her school since the 2016-2017 school year. “The kids are really being in the house here at RES and their behavior has been fabulous since the start of the school year. We tie Amelia into our Anti-Bullying month activities very heavily. We weave her into all aspects of Bullying Prevention month as she represents inclusion and the respect for others and their differences that we want our students’ to emulate,” says Jenna.

Jen Lowe from Stafford Township SD has been using the material for over six years. “I can tell you it is worthwhile. Bullying is basically gone, and I have a better handle on my students’ emotions and how to handle them. It’s techniques we weren’t taught in school,” said Jen.

During October, TEAMology is offering tips on how to use Amelia to help students understand the value of peace, harmony and acceptance and also to give students strategies to use if faced with a bullying situation. Follow TEAMology on Facebook (TEAMology) and Twitter (@weareteamology) where all month long, Amelia will be featured along with easy to use activities and ideas for promoting Anti-Bullying.

  • Reduced Standardized Testing Makes Room for Social Emotional Learning

Reduced Standardized Testing Makes Room for Social Emotional Learning

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 6, 2017

We have been observing the growth of STEAM, Personalized Learning (PL), Digital Learning (DL) and a host of other trends in education. With the pressure from businesses and the societal impact of many students not being prepared to handle conflicts, harassment, bullying, and problem-solving, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has been growing as a major need. Teachers across the country are embracing the opportunity to help build strong young people, as states are beginning to allow and encourage blended learning approaches.

Linsey Covert, founder of TEAMology, “Early in my school counseling career, I saw the need to create something that could change the way schools were approaching social emotional learning, school climate, and character education. I wanted to provide the necessary resources and tools for educators to help them build strong character, leadership skills, and an overall sense of helping one another. It also only made sense to make a connection to home and engage parents. So, twelve years ago, we began building courseware based on six strong character foundations, we even created six relatable characters that students ‘study’ to build their own strong foundations.  Partnering with experts in the field from Penn State University, we began testing the course work in schools five years ago. We tested, refined and researched every aspect of the coursework. It was important to us that teachers could integrate our foundations across their curriculum.”

What we did not anticipate was the impact Project TEAM would have on the teachers in terms of less teacher turnover. It appears that the teachers also find value in bonding as a team to help the students apply all the foundations developed by TEAMology.

    Dr. Richard Hazler

Dr. Richard Hazler & Dr. JoLynn Carney have spent their careers researching school violence and bullying prevention. They have been asked many times over the years to develop or partner with a bullying prevention program. “Our answer has always been ‘no’ because, while there are good programs out there that deal specifically with bullying, violence, or some other issue, we wanted a program that promoted investment and reward for the school community as a whole. The internal energy and rewards that come from such a unified and team-oriented approach is why we have actively, and professionally invested in the research, development, and evaluation of Project TEAM.”

“What it takes to reduce bullying is a community that creates an environment where the behavior is not accepted and helping behaviors are supported. The TEAM concept is really a critical one for schools that can allow schools to see change. Dr. JoLynn Carney joined in the research and development of Project TEAM. “What we always suspected was that creating a positive environment by empowering the students with strong prosocial attitudes and skills would help with bullying problems, other disciplinary issues, and provide a more productive environment for learning and growing.  We now have the data that applying this approach with fidelity actually works. “What we did not anticipate,” Dr. Hazler said. “Was the impact Project TEAM would have on the teachers in terms of less teacher turnover. It appears that the teachers also find value in bonding as a team to help the students apply all the foundations developed by TEAMology.” Dr. Carney added, “That is just very satisfying.”

Dr. Sue Kanigsberg, Asst. Director of Educational Services, of Lincoln Intermediate Unit, has thoroughly reviewed the materials on the platform. “Now that students and teachers in Pennsylvania’s third through eighth grades will spend 20 percent less time on statewide testing, TEAMology will help teachers do more of what they entered teaching to do in the first place – focus on kids rather than tests. For administrators, it helps get a jump start on Chapter 339 and the Future Ready Index mandates that take effect in the fall of 2018.”

In early 2016, TEAMology began to see interest from school districts grow rapidly. “All this hard work and development was paying off,” Linsey said. TEAMology began to research would it would take to build a cloud-based home for all of the character material so teachers would have easier access. As the program was taking hold in schools, TEAMology wanted the materials to be accessible to all teachers. Linsey pushed, “Not only easy access, we went much further. Teachers are collaborating and helping build the materials to be even stronger.  I understand what it means to be in the trenches, and what support and sharing best practices can mean from my peers.” The platform launched in July and early going is encouraging as over 1,000 teachers are onboarded, using the material, offering their help and collaborating with one another.  Jen Lowe from Stafford Township SD has been using the material for over six years.  “I can tell you it is worthwhile.  Bullying is basically gone, and I have a better handle on my students’ emotions and how to handle them.  It’s techniques we weren’t taught in school,” said Jen. Chris Schmidt says, “Now that the materials are in the cloud, more teachers joining will make the program stronger.”

According to Lindsay Read, manager of research at CASEL (and yes it’s an acronym) Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, “As more programs are being taken up (SEL) in schools and districts, there becomes this greater demand to assess them, to see if they’re working, to see if students are, in fact, learning the skills that are being  taught.”

“Having a well-respected organization such as CASEL research helping to educate and emphasize the importance of SEL, is the type of efforts we need to make SEL a part of a lasting fabric in schools.  The data points we are beginning to collect could become important to CASEL type research efforts,” said Linsey.

About TEAMology: TEAMology is a culmination of decades of research and side-by-side teaching with the most renowned experts in SEL. The material is based on six relatable characters and the foundations of a house called Project TEAM that teachers and students use to emulate best strong skills and relate them to future Ready Indexes such as career exploration practices. Premama® Designates Today as National Moms Who Pump Day

During breastfeeding awareness month, it’s important to recognize the moms who are dedicated to pumping breastmilk for their babies

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 15, 2017

Premama®, a Rhode Island startup and the first nationwide line of pill-free, natural prenatal supplements is announcing today as “National Moms Who Pump Day” in celebration of moms around the world that pump breast milk for their baby or donation.

“At Premama, we celebrate all moms whether they breastfeed, pump or formula feed. During Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we noticed that there wasn’t a day to specially honor all the moms who continually go above and beyond to pump breastmilk for their babies, or even others’ babies through donation,” said Dan Aziz, CEO and Founder of Premama. “We decided to create National Moms Who Pump Day on Aug. 15, to shine a spotlight on this special group of dedicated moms who pump.”

At Premama, we celebrate all moms whether they breastfeed, pump or formula feed. During Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we noticed that there wasn’t a day to specially honor all the moms who continually go above and beyond to pump breastmilk for their babies, or even other’s babies through donation. We decided to create National Moms Who Pump Day on Aug. 15, to shine a spotlight on this special group of dedicated moms who pump.

Dan Aziz, CEO and Founder of Premama

“We created Premama Lactation supplement to support moms on their breastfeeding journey, whether they are nursing or pumping. It is designed to boost breast milk supply and fortify mom’s milk with added nutrition,” said Aziz.

Over the past three weeks, Premama has encouraged moms to share their hilarious, empowering and heartwarming pumping stories on the Premama Facebook page. Four winners will be chosen to each win one $500 SpaFinder gift card. The story categories were: “funniest pump story,” “pumpers who go above and beyond” and “the person who supported you most during their pumping journey.”

The winning stories for each category are:

Funniest Pump Story had one winner:

Hannah: “I made my toddlers breastmilk popsicles and my husband came home and ate two, not knowing they were breastmilk. You should’ve seen his face when I came in and saw him and told him what he was eating!”

Pumpers Who Go Above and Beyond had two winners:

Bracha: “I’ve been pumping for almost nine years. I never thought I would end up here when we adopted our first child. He was premature and weighed a few ounces short of two pounds. I induced lactation and was able to feed him exclusively with my milk from six months on after supplementing with donner milk and the help of an SNS.

“I have gone onto feed 22 children (including my four kids). I’ve donated pumped milk as I’ve also wet nursed as many of the 22 kiddos I’ve fed over the years.

“My latest accomplishment was being able to pump for a surrogate baby I birthed in July 2016. I pumped and shipped 1000 ounces of milk to her bi-weekly in addition to nursing my own toddler at the time. I am now pregnant with that baby’s sibling (due this Fall), and I hope to pump for him/her as well. Breastmilk is an amazing gift and I am ever so thankful that my breasts have exceeded my expectations to nourish so many children. Nothing can compare.”

Stephanie: “I was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm on July 7. I had open heart surgery to repair it on July 31. Our third son was only three months old. Five hours post-op and immediately after removing the breathing tube, my sister hooked me up to my pump. I continued to pump three times a day during my hospitalization in an effort to preserve his food source.

“A small miracle is that I had pumped and stored about 700 ounces in the previous two months that I had planned to donate. Because of our stash, we were able to keep him on breastmilk during my entire hospitalization. Hopefully, my supply will return well enough we can still donate in the future.”

Person Who Supported You Most During Their Pumping Journey had one winner:

Christine: “My sister Stephanie was by far my hugest supporter & cheerleader in my pumping journey. She not only bought me my (quite expensive) pump, but she also taught me all of the ins and outs when it came to pumping. She helped me find the right size parts, taught me just how to pump and encouraged me when I wanted to quit before my goal date (multiple times). I would never have made it 18 months without her!

“I’ll never forget my early days in the NICU with my son. I was beyond exhausted (emotionally and physically) but she made sure I was pumping at the right times to ensure that my milk would come in for my little guy while he couldn’t quite nurse yet. Or the one time I got mastitis. She had a two-year-old and newborn at the time, but she spent the whole day at my house caring for my newborn and me as well so that I could pump all day and heal.

“Or the time when my deep freezer broke, I lost my entire stash of pumped milk (sad face) and she gave me an overabundance of her frozen milk so that my little boy did not have to supplement with formula (amazing)! I am so thankful for my sister! She’s so selfless and absolutely deserves a spa day!”

  • Laughing Face Launches Organic Laundry Solutions for Babies and Pregnant Women

Laughing Face Launches Organic Laundry Solutions for Babies and Pregnant Women

Shoebox-sized washer washes and sanitizes women’s panties or babies’ cloth diapers in 25 minutes — more hygienic, less detergent

    Press Release

    updated: May 12, 2017

The China and Canada joint tech company Laughing Face has developed a low-pressure washing technology that consumes less water, energy and detergent, and features a powerful disinfection process.

The company has launched their first product LaughingU, a shoebox-sized washing machine that washes and sanitizes women’s panties or babies’ cloth diapers in 25 minutes.

Ensure Underwear Hygiene for Women during Pregnancy

Traditional laundry equipment cannot kill most viruses and bacteria on the underwear, and it could cause yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, even urinary tract infections (UTI). For women during pregnancy, the infections may cause early delivery (preterm birth) or even miscarriage. Clean panties are essential for every woman, especially during pregnancy.

    Organic Approach for Babies’ Laundry

For families with infants and toddlers, washing the cloth diapers or toddlers’ underwear is painful. LaughingU solves the problem, with a healthier solution. Their low-pressure washing technology only requires half the amount of detergent that normally is required by a traditional washing machine. In some cases, it does not even require detergent at all. It is an organic approach to washing kids’ underwear, and organic is good for kids’ sensitive skin.

How does the Low Pressure Washing Technology Work?

The machine creates a low-pressure environment in the washing chamber, and the water in the chamber boils at a very low temperature, continuously creating boiling bubbles to break the stains on the cloth. With the low-pressure washing technology, only a little or even zero detergent will be required. The solution saves consumers who have sensitive skins, and in the long run (when deployed by regular washing machines), saves our rivers and lakes from pollution (eutrophication).

The company is offering a discounted price for pre-orders, and the machine will be shipped within North America in August 2017.

  • Hello, My Name is Oliver by Paymaneh Ritchie Shows Us How to Deal with Mental Health Issues

Hello, My Name is Oliver by Paymaneh Ritchie Shows Us How to Deal with Mental Health Issues

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 22, 2016

Like many classics for young readers, such as Winnie the Pooh, Paymaneh Ritchie’s “Hello, My Name is Oliver”, was written by a parent to entertain and educate their own child. Told from the perspective of a lovable but depressive six-year-old Beagle-Springer Spaniel who was adopted from the SPCA, this children’s book delves into mental health issues that include separation anxiety, depression, and self-worth.

Paymaneh’s aim is to create an easy to read, light-hearted story that will enable parents to discuss tolerance, acceptance and unconditional love with children.

Through Oliver’s experiences, the author utilizes words such as depression, anxiety, adaptability, unconditional love and understanding to allow parents to elaborate and educate their children whilst bonding and strengthening their relationship through sharing a story and hopefully a few hugs!

    Paymaneh Ritchie, Author

Hello, My Name Is Oliver” is a middle-grade book written in an easy, conversational tone to encourage young readers and their parents into a natural flow of discussion regarding the ‘big’ issues Oliver faces in his simple, yet universal life.  This true story is told through Oliver’s eyes as he views his humans’ world.

Oliver is a loyal, neurotic, and lovable abandoned dog who is unsure about his self-worth until he meets his new family at a local SPCA.  His new home offers him a second chance in life along with a human sister and an extended family that adore him.  But of course, fitting into a new family requires Oliver to ‘train’ his humans about his anxiety, depression, and excitability.  As Oliver and his new family tackle these all too common issues and practice unconditional love, they learn to coexist and compromise. Until of course Lexi, the new blue eyed puppy shows up and turns Ollie’s life upside down again!

Through Oliver’s experiences, the author utilizes words such as depression, anxiety, adaptability, unconditional love and understanding to allow parents to elaborate and educate their children whilst bonding and strengthening their relationship through sharing a story and hopefully a few hugs!

Paymaneh states, “Making children aware (at their capacity) of important mental and emotional issues surrounding us all, hopefully enables us parents to raise compassionate, understanding and tolerant humans with self-love that extends to all.”

“Sometimes discussing these issues can be tough when asked by a child, but through “Oliver”, I have found an easy way to approach, describe and in turn create an easy platform regarding these very important issues,” adds Paymaneh.

Hello, My Name Is Oliver is available on Amazon in Hardcover, softcover or E-book format.

Following a visit to the eco-friendly baby boutique, Happy Mango, the couple decided to check out the EverTrue™ Diamond, Colgate’s top of the line dual firmness foam crib mattress.

“If you think shopping for an adult mattress can be overwhelming, just wait until you start exploring options for your baby. I wanted to help new parents sort through the junk and make decisions that they can feel confident about.”

    Anitra Mecadon

“If you think shopping for an adult mattress can be overwhelming, just wait until you start exploring options for your baby. I wanted to help new parents sort through the junk and make decisions that they can feel confident about,” Mecadon said. “I think every mom wants her baby to sleep safe and sound. Plus, when baby sleeps, mama sleeps… a great crib mattress is key!”

This episode of Diaper Pad offers a behind-the-scenes look at Colgate’s Atlanta-based factory, where crib mattresses are constructed by hand. While there, Anitra details her list of preferences in a conversation with Colgate’s marketing director, Terri Paul. The top three must-haves included:

    • Safety first – As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Anitra’s first necessity was a firm sleep surface. The Diamond’s unique design provides the extra firmness infants need for proper growth and development on one side as well as the added comfort toddlers prefer on the other.
    • No exposure to chemicals – The Diamond features plant-oil infused eco foam and ultrasonically welded side seams. This mattress also meets and exceeds all federal and state requirements for flammability and chemical composition and has earned the GREENGUARD® Gold and Certi-PurUS® certifications ensuring no harmful air emissions.
    • Optimal airflow – To provide unprecedented airflow, the Diamond combines Colgate’s Diamond channel gel memory foam with its exclusive SecureCore honeycomb mesh fabric spacer. The crib mattress also brings the power of Celliant® — the world’s first biologically responsive fabric — to crib mattresses to help baby sleep better. Frequently used in high-performance athletic gear, this innovative material is designed to increase circulation and improve the level of oxygen in the body. As an added benefit, the Celliant infused cover has no chemical flame retardants that could be harmful to baby.

“Anitra really did her homework before challenging us to demonstrate how the EverTrue Diamond meets all of her needs as a concerned mom-to-be,” said Paul. “At Colgate, we want every caregiver to know how important the crib mattress is throughout growth and development. And as the mother of four, it’s an honor to share info that helps Anitra and Adam prepare for their baby’s arrival.”

“New dads can sometimes be removed from the process of preparing the nursery, especially things like buying a crib mattress,” added Adam Bret. “But when you consider that infants can spend up to 16 hours a day sleeping, then add to that the value of your own peace of mind, this is one investment that certainly pays off.”

Sold exclusively at dedicated and knowledgeable specialty store partners, including Brixy member stores, the EverTrue™ Diamond is a lightweight, 6” thick foam crib mattress. Made in the US, the Diamond fits all standard size American cribs and toddler beds. Suggested MSRP is $349.99.

Two English Language Instructors, Living Worlds Apart, Are Debuting an Inspiring Novel Which Combines Profound Persian Thoughts in a Professional, Literal American Framework

Tina Gheisari’s book, “The Mystique of a Romance between May and Me,” which was originally written in Farsi, follows the life and rebirth of a pearl, in a beautiful, spiritual, and romantic novel. It describes motherhood in a profound and moving way, and includes thoughtful reflections on our choices in life, the meaning of life and death, how music is a universal language, the true meaning of childhood and even the mystery of sleep.

In a unique collaboration crossing the globe, Tina Gheisari and Michael Bender are debuting an inspirational novel “The Mystique of a Romance Between May and Me,” (appropriate for all ages) on Amazon.com. Michael Bender (editor) said, “Tina has managed to give all of us an opportunity to gain an understanding of the beauty of motherhood and mothers, our freedom to choose, the Eastern philosophy of love, and the spiritual being who protects us all. For those of us who are not mothers, Tina’s book gives us a greater appreciation for our own mothers and our roles in the world in which we live. All through following the life of a pearl!”

“The first word you must learn is “love” because this is the essence of me; the glittering flames from within the Creation has been started…After that I created a generous protector from the same species to ensure their survival. I called this support ‘Mother.’…Then Shell, the Mother spoke up and said, ‘Ah yes! You should promise not to forget this enamored love wherever you go, and whatever you become. ‘I promise, mother; I do, Pearl answered!”

Tina Gheisari, the author, is an English teacher, coach, and translator whose native language is Farsi. She is the loving and caring mother of two grown children, a daughter and a son, Hanieh and Hossein, who were the source of the inspiration for her novel. She believes that children are truly the fruits of their mother’s labor and that we all must remember our mothers in our thoughts and prayers. By sharing her insightful concepts with her readers, Tina keeps the flames in her heart alive. Tina currently lives in Shiraz, Iran and has a TESOL degree with successful experience teaching general English to IT and high school students. She also worked as a manager of Reiki/Yoga in the United Arab Emirates.

Michael Bender, the U.S.-based editor who also wrote the Dedication and Introduction, said that Tina wanted to produce her inspirational book in English but was concerned about translating Persian sentiments about family into the context of a literal American framework in a way that readers would be inspired about the beauty of motherhood, life and the choices we all face as we proceed with our lives, no matter where we live in the world.

“Despite the physical separation of our lives, Michael not only captured the essence of my message, but clearly connected to my thoughts and philosophy as if they were his own,” Tina said. As a consequence, Tina asked Michael to write the Dedication and Introduction to her inspiring novel so his connection to the message was also conveyed to the reader.

Michael Bender is an American Language Skills Consultant working, since 2009, with First and Second Language English learners from grades one through adult in after school enrichment programs at Study Concepts Inc. (Ashburn and Chantilly, Virginia), Metropolitan Academy (McLean, Virginia), and individual American and foreign students and professionals. He recently joined the GIPEC Education Group based in Shanghai, China and Rockville, Maryland as Director of SAT Program for online and one-on-one test preparation. He has been a guest speaker at Virginia International University and the World Bank on topics relating to Culture and Language. He has traveled to more than 50 countries as an international executive, U.S. Foreign Service Commercial Officer, and on behalf of Project Hope, a non-profit organization which sought to establish a children’s hospital in a devastated part of the Middle East.

Michael has lived in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia. After turning to teaching and coaching, he created and published unique visual vocabulary writing and reading comprehension plans and visual flash cards to facilitate learning of English skills. Michael said that he is looking forward to an even closer collaboration with Tina on the sequel to “The Mystique of a Romance Between May and Me,” and working with writers from other parts of the world who have unique, story based inspirational messages.

  • Mother’s Day Surprise: New Card Game Reveals Millennial Moms Prefer Eating Their Placentas

Mother’s Day Surprise: New Card Game Reveals Millennial Moms Prefer Eating Their Placentas

Millennial moms admit their enjoyment of alcohol, lack of sex, and multiple ways they consume their afterbirths in 8,000 crowd sourced submissions for a new card game.

    Press Release

    May 4, 2016

In the process of developing KinderPerfect, a new card game for parents now on Kickstarter, over 700 millennial parents submitted 8,000 card ideas to create parenting-themed question and answer cards similar to the popular Cards Against Humanity card game. Their suggestions for KinderPerfect reveal a generational shift in parenting.

“We expected to see many card suggestions around poop,” says Wayan Vota, co-founder of KinderPerfect. “We were really surprised by all the ways millennial moms are consuming their own placenta.”

“We expected to see many card suggestions around poop. We were really surprised by all the ways millennial moms are consuming their own placenta.”

    Wayan Vota, co-founder, KinderPerfect

Crowd sourced card suggestions included the seemingly mainstream practice of creating placenta pills from the afterbirth, yet other ideas included “an ice-cold placenta smoothie,” “placenta pancakes,” and “placenta lasagna.” Some parents even suggested, “an umbilical cord sample platter.”

“As a GenX parent, I never thought about eating my own placenta when giving birth to our two daughters,” says Amy Vota, KinderPerfect co-founder. “Yet it turns out that humans are one of the very few mammals who do not engage in placentophagy – eating their afterbirth. Millennial moms are taking us back to our mammalia roots.”

Consuming breast milk was also central to card suggestion ideas, including “breast milk popsicles,” “breast milk coffee creamer,” and “breast milk pancakes.”

Other insights from the thousands of card idea submissions include a deep hatred of Caillou, an animated television series about an inquisitive four year of the same name. For example, “Caillou, that whiny bitch,” is indicative of the overall dislike of the children’s character.

“I never imagined that a cartoon toddler would create such animosity,” says Wayan Vota. “As an American, I am amazed at parents’ visceral hatred of a bald Canadian child.”

Netflix is now central to the parenting experience, with multiple references to just watching, and often binge watching the television streaming service. Suggestions included the phrase, “Netflix and chill,” that refers to having sex while watching a TV program. Netflix is also used a digital babysitter, where that extra hour of screen time is an opportunity for parents to create younger siblings.

Sadly, millennial parents are not having that much sex. Following in the footsteps of their GenX and Baby Boomer parents, they are going long stretches without sex, or trying to copulate in hushed and hurried circumstances, such as “silent couch sex,” that was mentioned along with “Netflix and chill.” Card suggestions included question cards like “Our code word for sex is ____,” with responses including, “adult wrestling,” “daddy time,” and “Dora the Explorer.”

“During every Design Party, where we test out new card ideas, the ‘Our code word for sex is ____,’ card always creates a entire discussion about the duality of being parents and also being lovers,” says Wayan Vota. “Parental sex, and the lack of it, is a timeless challenge for parents,” concurs Amy Vota. “Millennial parents have more options to entertain and distract their children to allow for adult intimacy, but they still struggling with exhaustion that comes with parenting.”

One way millennial parents are coping is through copious amounts of alcohol. KinderPerfect uses “mommy juice” as a euphemism for wine, but submitters are more frank with their alcoholism, and associated guilt. There were 40% more card suggestions that featured “wine” than those that featured “sex,” with multiple references to “a sippy cup of wine,” “the whole bottle of wine,” “the second bottle of wine,” “not enough wine,” and a favorite, “a bottle of fine whine”.

    ABOUT KINDERPERFECT

KinderPerfect is a new card game to turn the pain of parenting into an excuse for mommy juice. KinderPerfect is a runaway hit on Kickstarter, raising over $16,000 in pre-orders from the USA, Canada, and the UK. Similar to the popular Cards Against Humanity card game, KinderPerfect is best played by groups of parents – on a Moms’ Night Out to laugh at the challenges of parenthood or at baby showers to surprise new parents with the joys of poop.

KinderPerfect was founded by Wayan and Amy Vota, parents of two daughters, 5 and 7 years old. Wayan Vota is a co-founder of JadedAid, a card game to save humanitarians that was successfully launched on Kickstarter in 2015. Amy Vota is a co-founder of several parents groups in Washington, DC, USA.

  • Empty Nesters Capturing Their Second Life With Action, Connections, and Tools

Empty Nesters Capturing Their Second Life With Action, Connections, and Tools

Mastering The Empty Nest is a National movement launched by conflict expert and mediator, Karleen Andresen, for the 35+ parent crowd, also known as, empty nesters.

As young adult children leave the proverbial bed of roses, some parents appear to move on without a hitch; however, contrary to appearances, this substantial crowd is realizing a loneliness left in the wake. An increase in divorce among the empty nest is being recognized by religious groups to entertainment websites, and conflict resource tools are Andresen’s answer, “…because I have seen it work repeatedly.”

Conflict experts, like mediators, are brought into a court situation in the eleventh hour, when it’s time to divide assets. “It’s like the hospice for families and couples because it’s where relationships go to die” says Andresen. Yet, Andresen can attest that if empty nesters gain the necessary tools earlier, “There are many relationships that could be redeemed or rescued.”

According to WSJ and others there has been an increase of divorce among the empty nester crowd; however, Andresen says, “…using mediation or conflict tools, there are many relationships that could be redeemed or rescued.”

    Karleen Andresen, Owner/CEO

“People don’t get married or live together to get divorced. Behind every long lasting relationship are smaller tasks at work, and every bit of effort has needs and required tools to make it successful” Andresen says, “Knowledge, connection, a place to commiserate, a judge free zone, and tools can help them choose their terms. Andresen is not absent of reality, “Divorce can still come, but imagine it happening because it was their decision and not a knee jerk reaction to their loss.” She also says when it’s a thoughtful choice between people, there is more peace and wholeness present.

Mastering the Empty Nest is for pre-empty nest and empty nest age adults and provides free resources for those looking to recapture their “second life.” The site provides free information, a networking channel to ask and receive answers to questions, online webinars on how to navigate the changes that happen, a membership program, one-on-one consulting, and conferences to build a new life plan as couples or individuals.

An article is included for your use and publication as you see fit.

1 POWERFUL TIP FOR EMPTY NESTERS TO STEER CLEAR OF THE AFTER CHRISTMAS CRASH – so powerful it will become a new tradition

    written by: Karleen Andresen

Long awaited homecomings, late night visits, and traditional pecking and hen pecking is all part of the holiday legacy experienced between November 1 to January 2 each and every season. Like the sun rising and setting, this period of time is fraught with frenzy and tension, but beloved and expected. However, darker days lay ahead for empty nesters especially after Christmas.

Without immediate re-engagement, empty nesters can be lulled into a reminiscent depression or isolation creating an emotional crash after Christmas. This can come almost immediately, or after the dishes are finished and the tree is at the curb. It can also show up weeks later as the calendar and shopping list have fewer entries.

For empty nesters, Christmas is a highly anticipated event. There is the pre-baking, special dishes prepared for each family member, thoughtful gifts, wrapping paper and ribbons, wiping down the stemware to be spot free, polishing of the silver, and making sure you know your store hours for last minute required dashes.

The after Christmas crash is not easy, but gleaning from experience and training, this single tip could help an empty nester land on their feet. When I created this in my life, it was so enjoyed that it has became a tradition. This is geared for couples, but can easily be modified for single empty nesters to do with friends.

Plan and follow through with an activity for the two of you on the same day as the house empties

The day everyone leaves is the day you should have your next activity with your companion. Doing so will give you something to anticipate and talk about as the children are packing up to leave. I remember an aunt and uncle left my Grandmother’s home on Christmas day for their gift to each other: a trip to Venice. As a young girl, it was delightful to watch the anxiety while everyone helped them pack, to listen to everyone speculate about their trip, and soak up the energy that surrounded them. Planning something the same day as departure also comes with some of the same frenzy as my aunt and uncles trip. Finally, make this plan equally important to planning for the arrival of the extended family or leaving on that jet plane.

If you’re not sure what to do, consider attending a champagne brunch, strolling an outdoor or indoor mall, take a long drive and just stop at a local cafe and absorb the experience, or even spend a couple hours at a local McDonald’s. You might take a trip because airlines usually participate in Black Friday sales that can last for weeks. Maybe you dine at an expensive restaurant or visit people at an assisted living facility. Perhaps you want to look at babies at the local hospital or shut yourself in at a fine hotel overnight. Really, the choice is yours to plan, but it must be planned, expected, and treated as something you are gifting. The finale? Adding a few guidelines will be the icing to a warm event.

Here are five guidelines to really add the nuances needed to make an empty nester forget their woes.

    • Gauge The Activity Toward The Schedule Ahead – For example, if you only have a few hours then plan something that fits within that timeframe. If you have the ability to spend a day or overnight, pull out the stops and extend the holiday celebration.

    • Forget The Clean Up – If you haven’t quite gotten the house back in order, don’t worry, the work will not clean itself. It will be there when you return.

    • Get Dressed Up – It can be cumbersome to think about, but just like the effort made for the children, make the same effort for yourselves.

    • Conversation Starters – Talk about the best experiences of the holidays, the most growth you noticed in each of the family members, what you noticed about each other during the season, and how you will walk into the future together.

    • Hold Hands – This is so powerful that it requires announcing it. Touch is a necessity, and as empty nesters this can be a forgotten technique if not reminded.

It is a sobering time when you realize there are no more high demands on your time, no more hems to sew, no more scraped knees to kiss, and no more graduation invitations that need to be sent, but with a little help and openness, you can make a new tradition your best yet.

Karleen Andresen is a conflict expert dealing with legal cases and high conflict personalities. She runs an online community of empty nesters seeking connection and tools to navigate the terrain of living their second life. Prior, Andresen grew a women in business magazine to be the #1 in her State and published From Mystery to Math Formula: Simple equations to build your business; available on Amazon.
