  • Paramount+ TV Show Sets New Viewership Record for Streaming Service

Following last Sunday’s Season 2 premiere, Taylor Sheridan’s oil rig drama Landman continues to exceed expectations as it breaks another viewership record for Paramount+. This new update comes ahead of the release of the Billy Bob Thornton-led show’s Season 2, Episode 2, titled “Sins of the Father,” which will air this November 23.

“In Season 2, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets – and Tommy Norris’s breaking point may be closer than he realizes,” reads the Season 2 synopsis. “Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller, and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble – it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.”

How well did the Landman Season 2 premiere perform for Paramount+?

According to THR, the first episode of Landman Season 2 has already garnered a record-breaking 9.2 million views worldwide, a few days after its premiere. It actually performed three times better than the show’s Season 1 debut last year. Because of this, it has now become Paramount+’s biggest season premiere to date.

Landman is created and executive-produced by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. The ensemble cast includes Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez, with Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña as guest stars. The series was executive produced by David Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin, Jason Hoch, J.K. Nickell, Megan Creydt, and Peter Feldman. It is a production by MTV Entertainment Studios.

“Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, the series is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs,” reads the show’s logline. “Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.”

  • Hit Paramount+ TV Show Ending With Season 4

Five months after creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson’s Yellowjackets secured a renewal order from Paramount+, it has now been confirmed that the hit psychological thriller will officially be concluding its run with the upcoming fourth season. The creative team is currently targeting a 2026 production start date.

“After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season,” Lyle and Nickerson’s statement reads. “We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen. Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew, and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery, and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! ‘SNL’s Weekend Update Dings Paramount+ & Compares Donald Trump To ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Villain Bane

Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at pop culture and the news on Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” segment, where Paramount+ was dinged, and Donald Trump continued to be a target of jokes.

Jost brought up the lawsuit that the stars of 1968’s Romeo and Juliet brought upon Paramount Pictures to prevent the digital release of the film containing explicit images of them while they were teenagers.

“Paramount has agreed to lock it away where no one will ever see it — Paramount+,” Jost quipped.

The duo opened the weekly segment by taking jabs at Trump by acknowledging the Republican presidential candidate won the South Carolina primary, “which means that Trump is now undefeated, everywhere except court.”

Jost then played a clip of Trump showcasing “a more moderate [and] unifying tone” to take on the general election.

“November 5th will be our new liberation day, but for the liars and cheaters and fraudsters and censors and imposters … it will be their Judgment Day,” Trump said.

Jost questioned where he had heard that speech before and said it was Bane from The Dark Knight Rises.

Che went onto Nikki Haley and said that the Republican presidential hopeful said she was not staying in the race to be Trump’s running mate as she had “no need to kiss the ring.” The comedian then joked, “While Tim Scott said he’ll suck the ring right off Trump’s finger.”

    Here’s the bit:

In addition, Che joked about the golden sneakers Trump is selling, joking that people “can check them out on the feet of the guy getting dragged off your flight.”

Trump’s shoes were referenced in an earlier skit about their magical power to improve the lives of those who wear them. Check it out here.

    What’s on Paramount Plus?

Paramount Plus offers hundreds of hours of TV shows from Paramount Global networks like CBS, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT, Logo, and more. Paramount Plus also offers thousands of movies rom Paramount Pictures, as well as original series like The Good Fight, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, 1923, Star Trek: Strange Worlds, Tulsa King, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

    Is Paramount Plus worth it?

Is Paramount Plus worth it? The answer is yes if you watch sports or love CBS and Paramount Plus original shows like 1923, 1883, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Fire Country, Survivor, Big Brother, and more. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, ViacomCBS international CEO Raffaele Annecchino explained the importance of original content to Paramount Plus’ success. “We have our studio, we have global franchises and local production hubs, such as in Latin America,” he said. “We basically execute what we call a global vision with local execution, which is a key competitive advantage. Because streaming is global, but at the same time, to be successful, you need a customized go-to-market strategy defined for each market. We tailor the local approach, marketing, distribution and content by leveraging our unique ecosystem market by market.” He continued, “Some see legacy businesses as a burden. But we are transforming our legacy business as a competitive advantage to boost streaming. Having our teams in local markets and having knowledge of them allows us to leverage all our assets. Think about the Telefe network in Argentina or Network 10 in Australia – these free-to-air channels are boosting streaming and serve as a content engine. Through the local network, you can really grow (intellectual property) IP. Five Bedrooms is a top local show in Australia, for example, that for a few months rated as one of the top acquisition drivers of Paramount+ there. At the same time, [Yellowstone prequel] 1883 is a top title in Latin America. So, we have global tentpoles like Yellowstone, SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun and CSI. And then we have local tentpoles.”

Annecchino also revealed plans for Paramount Plus to be the exclusive streaming service for shows like South Park and to produce more international series. “We are repatriating South Park to make Paramount+ the exclusive home of South Park. More and more, we want to repatriate our biggest IPs to our platforms now that we have a global opportunity,” he said. He continued, “We are producing more than 50 international scripted originals this year, and we are going to have seven new Shores and for the first time ever an international NCIS, NCIS: Sydney. So we have a diversity of content that really, I think, is unbeatable, because content is really where we invest all our efforts. It is all about content. Content is king in our strategy.”

Paramount Plus’ Chief Content Officer David Nevins also told Deadline in 2021 about how Paramount Plus’ content differentiates itself from other streaming servies. “You’re going to see quite a lot of stuff rolling out over the next three or four months. We’re finally coming out of our Covid hangover, and you’re seeing the first of the Taylor Sheridan stuff, you’re seeing expansion of Star Trek and adult animation. I’d point to a few different things that I think will wind up distinguishing Paramount+ over time,” he said at the time.

He continued, “Definitely franchise first. We’re building out the Star Trek franchise, we’re building on the strength of franchises that we own. You’ve seen what the Nickelodeon strategy has been, very much about franchises. We are trying to build off what Taylor Sheridan has done; Grease is going to be an important show in the new year; Fatal Attraction is going to be an important show in the new year; and The Offer, which touches the history of Paramount and The Godfather, one of the great franchises in Paramount history, you’ll see that.” He also explained Paramount Plus’ plans to expand internationally and how he wants the service to have a “movie feel” that’s akin to Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster hits. “We have a pretty clear international rollout strategy. We’re going to be pretty aggressive about making content in Europe, some things that can come back to the U.S., that will be known franchises in the U.S., and some things that are important in Europe,” he said. “We’re already in pretty much all the English-speaking world of Australia, Canada, but by mid-next year, we’ll be basically across Europe. It’s Paramount+ in the big territories of the UK, Italy, Germany as well as some others, and it’ll be SkyShowtime, which is the joint adventure that we’re doing with Comcast, in the remainder of Europe. Obviously we’re already all across Latin America. We’re in Latin America now, Europe next year, and building from there at a pretty rapid pace.”

He continued, “We want Paramount+ stuff to have a movie feel, to have the sort of actors and stories that’s the best of classic Hollywood, and that means having a popcorn feel in general, playing to the entire country as well as people overseas. I think you’ll see that ethos played out in most of the things that we’re making.”

While Paramount Plus has a lot of plans to expand, Nevins also acknowledged that it’s a newer streaming service. “There’s always a little bit of a process to that, but we’re in expansion mode, and we’re just about ramping up the development slate. It’s not like there were 70 things on the development slate that I had to sort through, throw out 40 of the 70 and bring in a lot more,” he said. “We’re still in that transition. It’s a new service that is expanding rapidly, and as a company we’re trying to invest rapidly. So, I would say it’s more a process of expansion and focusing than it is about throwing things out, and you’ve got to go with what you’re good at. What are the strengths we have? Certainly one of the strengths we have are our deep library in years of rich IP, talented producers like Robert and Michelle King, Alex Kurtzman, Taylor Sheridan, trying to bring in new people like Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones.”

Nevins also discussed Paramount Plus’ bundle with Showtime and how collaborations with other networks can benefit both companies. “The bundle between Showtime and Paramount+ is right there on the buy page and has been doing very well because I think Mayor of Kingstown, in addition to being good for Paramount+, is also going to be good for Showtime because it’s going to drive subscriptions to Showtime,” he said. “When you get a positive ecosystem, a lot of people are going to sign up for the bundle. So, you watch Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+, but it is going to drive subscribers to Showtime. Likewise, because some people will be going to go through the Paramount+ buy to get Dexter, I think Dexter will drive subscribers to Paramount+.”

He continued, “The bundle has been doing quite well for us, and I think more and more people buy it together, the same way that I’m a subscriber to the Disney bundle because I like both ESPN+ for soccer and Hulu and Disney+, and it’s a good deal to buy the three of them together. Similarly, we’re developing our own bundles and I think there’s a real consumer demand for it. So, once you’ve watched Mayor of Kingstown, then you can go over to Showtime and watch Dexter or vice versa.”

That said, Nevins also acknowledged the “value” of keeping brands separate. “I think there’s value in having some separation of brands. If you’ve got kids and you’re signing up for your kids, you want Paramount+,” he said. “You don’t need Showtime. But if you are looking for pure play, I want Black-centered programming, it’s helpful to have the pure play of BET+, but it also combines well because there are Black households that want to watch BET and Showtime or watch BET and Paramount+. So I think the brands are of value, but we have to make sure they speak well to each other. And they combine well with each other.”

As for his personal favorite Paramount Plus show, Nevins pointed to Star Trek: Picard and Mayor of Kingstown as two of his recommendations. “I was very taken with Picard. I thought there was something really satisfying about watching that actor [Patrick Stewart] come back and play that iconic character late in life. That was a show that I really, really enjoyed, but I’m really excited about Mayor of Kingstown, and I’m really excited about where Grease is going. So, I have pretty wide tastes,” he said. “The other show that I think is going to knock people’s socks off is The Offer. I’ve now seen like four episodes of that, and it’s totally a kick. It’s fun and poppy, it has that sort of popcorn feel and some really surprising performances. Matthew Goode and Juno Temple and Miles Teller are really fun, and it is an inside Hollywood story, but it feels like a great escapists drama.”

Sonic spin-off series Knuckles will hit Paramount+ on April 26

Paramount+ has revealed a new trailer for . The six-episode show is set between the events of and its sequel, which will hit theaters this December.

Idris Elba once again voices the titular Echidna. This time around, Knuckles will be training human companion Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) to become a warrior, all the while fending off those who want to use his power for nefarious means.

The trailer is entertaining enough. There’s a decent gag about a dog’s mortal enemy and it sets up the premise of the show neatly. All episodes of Knuckles will hit Paramount+ in the US and Canada on April 26. The show will arrive on Paramount+ elsewhere the following day. Folks in Japan will need to wait until later this year to catch the show.

  • Too Early 2024 Grammy Predictions

    Too Early 2024 Grammy Predictions

The end of the year calls for reflection — hence our 2023 Popdust Music Awards, celebrating all of the great music we heard last year. And now, the beginning of the year indicates a time of anticipation. For that, we have our
2024 Artists to Watch, which also means that Awards Season is right around the corner.

Starting with the Golden Globes on January 7, we are about to experience countless red carpet shots, couples debuts (
still waiting for you, Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan), and teary-eyed acceptance speeches.

While there are the BAFTAs, the Emmys, the Oscars, and the SAG Awards, my speciality is music. And there is no bigger mecca for musicians than
the GRAMMY Awards. Held on February 4, 2024, and hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, the GRAMMYs are music’s biggest night.

Awards Season brings out everyone’s inner critic. Suddenly, we think we know more than the Recording Academy. Every year, there are viral moments and scandalous decisions. The Recording Academy ultimately outrages the general public in some way or another — and inevitably, fandoms will take to apps like X to become the next Joan Rivers.

It’s a delicious time of year when your favorite celebrities are forced out of hiding and into the spotlight, and we can’t wait. To get everyone in the spirit of judgment, here are
some way-too-early GRAMMY predictions for the year!

Record Of The Year: “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus

Any Kid Harpoon song is a classic, and Cyrus’ return from a brief hiatus from music was met with high marks. It was Spotify’s most streamed song in a week ever, spent time at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, and was the fastest song in Spotify history to reach 1 billion streams.

Album Of The Year: Midnights by Taylor Swift

She’s won this coveted award three times already, and it’s impossible to discredit the year of Taylor Swift. She is on track for the highest-grossing tour of all time with the Eras Tour, Midnights is Apple Music’s biggest pop album of all time in terms of first-day streaming, and the album is the reason she was all 10 of Billboard’s Top 10 Songs (the first time all women have dominated the charts ever). Give Swift her flowers.

Song Of The Year: “A&W” by Lana Del Rey

Another Jack Antonoff production, Lana Del Rey’s album is a spiritual awakening. With an essence of transcendentalism and a hint of gospel, it’s Lana to her core. “A&W” is hailed Song of the Year by many already, and it’s time we recognize her for the artist she is, was, and always will be.

    Best New Artist: Ice Spice

I haven’t seen many people rise to the top as quickly as Ice Spice, nor have I seen someone garner such a passionate fanbase. The rapper has hits like “Deli” and collabs with rap queen Nicki Minaj on “Barbie World” and Taylor Swift on “Karma”, not to mention her Munchkin drink at Dunkin Donuts.

Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical): Jack Antonoff

Not only is Antonoff the mastermind behind many Taylor Swift albums, including Midnights, but he has Lana Del Rey’s multi-nominated album, “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard?,” under his belt. He can’t miss, and for that, he wins.

Best Pop Solo Performance: “What Was I Made For? [From The Major Motion Picture Barbie]”

This song is stunning, productionally perfect, and sonically flawless. Billie and Finneas continue to grow as an unstoppable singer-songwriter duo who can make any song fit any moment.

Best Pop Vocal Album: GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo wanted to have fun with her sophomore album following the immense pressure and success of her debut, SOUR. With GUTS, we had viral singles yet again that promise Rodrigo is here for the long haul.

Best Dance/Electronic Recording: “Strong” by Romy + Fred again…

Developing a cult following in the electronic music world, Fred again… is one of the hottest house dance artists in the world right now. Following a successful bout of live shows and reaching fans on almost every platform imaginable, “Strong” is a winner.

Best Pop Dance Recording: “Rush” by Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan understands how to make out-of-the-box pop music, and seals it with one hell of a dance number. He’s the embodiment of a popstar, and “Rush” was just an example of the high precedent he’s set.

Best Rock Performance: “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius

Compiled of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, boygenius is a supergroup showing the world how to rock again. “Not Strong Enough” showcases what each member brings to the group in one sound synergy.

Best Rock Album: Starcatcher by Greta Van Fleet

Hailed as The Next Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet brings you on a journey with their Starcatcher album. Each song a delight, Greta Van Fleet has developed their sound and found their stride.

Best R&B Performance: “Kill Bill” by SZA

SOS is one of the best albums of the year, and while I don’t see it winning in the Big 4 due to competitors like Swift, I still think it wins in general. “Kill Bill” was one of the biggest songs and continues to be one of the most viral.

Best Rap Performance: “Rich Flex” by Drake & 21 Savage

The saying “I like what Drake likes” holds true for many…and the collaboration album, Her Loss, with 21 Savage was one of the biggest of the year. “Rich Flex” makes sense for two of the biggest rappers out there right now.

Best Rap Album: Heroes & Villains by Metro Boomin’

Metro Boomin’ is the rapper and producer responsible for countless hits like Migos’ “Ric Flair Drip”. His Heroes & Villains album is a masterclass for high quality rap, intricate detail in production and songwriting, and straight up hits.
