What the what. A man identified as Jesse Agus Martinez, 35, was recently indicted for allegedly trying to smuggle two sedated, protected orange-fronted parakeets into the United States concealed in his underwear. He faces up to 20 years in jail and a possible $250,000 fine. He’s not the only person who has been caught smuggling animals in their pants.
Border officials noticed an odd bulge in Martinez’s groin area. Martinez insisted the bulge was his “pirrín,” a Spanish slang term for male genitalia. A closer search revealed two brown sacks tucked into his underwear. Inside each sack, a juvenile orange-fronted parakeet. Authorities say the birds were alive, breathing, but heavily sedated.
People Who Were Caught Smuggling Animals in Their Pants
Wildlife smugglers have used every imaginable method to slip animals past authorities. Few strategies are as bizarre… or as risky… as hiding live creatures in their pants. Across airports and border crossings worldwide, officers have uncovered an unbelievable range of animals stuffed into waistbands, tights, underwear, and makeshift pouches.
Reptiles
SNAKES represent some of the most infamous cases. At the border between Hong Kong and mainland China, multiple travelers have been caught with bags of live snakes. The snake are usually concealed inside their trousers (although that is not the origin of the phrase “trouser snake“). In one incident, a smuggler attempted to move more than 100 snakes in his pants, many of them highly active species prone to biting or escaping.
TURTLES are another example of people who were caught smuggling animals in their pants. At Newark Airport, a man tried to smuggle a red-eared slider turtle by wrapping it in a towel. The wrapped turtle was then stuffed into the front of his pants. The shape caught the attention of security, and the turtle was quickly discovered.
Animals
BIRDS are among the most commonly smuggled animals. We have the recent incident involving Martinez and two sedated, endangered orange-fronted parakeets. Another story involves the traveler at Melbourne Airport who had two pigeons hidden by taping one around each leg. According to Audubon, still another bird-brain there was another at LAX. Officers intercepted a man with 14 Asian songbirds taped to his legs beneath his trousers… many were still chirping.
OTTERS AND PRAIRIE DOGS have also been attempted pants-based transports. In Thailand, a tourist was caught with two otters and a prairie dog stuffed into his underwear. Here’s the briefing on the debriefing:
Another case recorded by Audubon includes 44 geckos and skinks stashed in underwear pouches, 1,000 live spiders in luggage, and, unbelievably, titi monkeys strapped inside a girdle. The female smuggler wore the monkey inside the girdle and disguised the whole thing to look like a pregnancy.
The smuggling stories are humorous, but they are also dangerous for the animals involved.
Donielle Flynn has two kids, two cats, two dogs, and a love of all things rock. She’s been in radio decades and held down top-rated day parts at Detroit, Philadelphia, and Washington DC radio stations throughout her tenure. She enjoys writing about rock news, the Detroit community, and she has a series called “The Story Behind” where she researches the history of classic rock songs.
You’d think, after years of viral Zoom fails, everyone would’ve learned one simple rule: if you’re logging into a video meeting—especially one involving a judge—wear pants. Yet here we are, Detroit once again giving America something to talk about.
It happened during a virtual court hearing this week, when Detroit Police Officer Matthew Jackson joined a session from what appeared to be his living room. From the waist up, he looked ready for duty—crisp uniform shirt, badge shining, the kind of image that says “professional.” But the camera had other ideas.
Instead of a courtroom-ready shot, Jackson’s laptop was placed on a coffee table below him. He was seated on his couch—higher than the camera—so the angle revealed far more than anyone expected. Specifically: bare legs and what appeared to be boxers or shorts. In other words, no pants.
The Courtroom Pause Heard ‘Round Detroit
For a few seconds, everyone on the call processed what they were seeing. Then came the question—deadpan, direct, and instantly legendary.
“You got some pants on, officer?” asked Judge Sean Perkins, with the tone of a man who’s just realized he’s hosting an impromptu episode of COPS: Home Edition.
Officer Jackson didn’t flinch. He didn’t fumble for excuses or try to move off camera. He simply replied, “No, sir.”
If there were ever a moment that perfectly summed up the honesty expected from law enforcement, this might’ve been it. Jackson quickly tilted the camera upward so only his torso was visible. The hearing continued as if nothing had happened—though the internet, of course, would ensure that it definitely had.
From “Business Casual” to “Business Bare Minimum”
We’ve all seen the clips: the reporter caught in his boxers on live TV, the lawyer whose Zoom filter turned him into a talking cat (“I’m not a cat, Your Honor”), the teacher who forgot to mute her mic. But this—this was next-level.
Because this wasn’t a random office meeting or a work-from-home check-in. This was court. The kind of setting where you stand when the judge enters, where decorum matters.
And yet, Detroit—always ready to keep things real—just gave the virtual world its latest wardrobe malfunction headline.
To be fair, Jackson isn’t the first person to fall victim to the “Zoom angle.” Cameras can be deceptive. Maybe he thought the frame was tight enough to only show from the chest up. Maybe the preview screen on his end was cropped smaller than the live feed. Or maybe—like millions of Americans working from home since 2020—he just decided, “Eh, no one’s gonna know.”
The Internet Reaction
Within hours, the story spread like wildfire. Local forums, social media pages, and Detroit comment threads lit up. Some defended him—“Who hasn’t done a Zoom in their shorts?” Others couldn’t resist the jokes.
“Dude went from Serve and Protect to Sit and Regret.” “Cop caught in a sting operation—his own camera.” “Finally, a police officer showing transparency.”
Even among seasoned Detroiters, who’ve seen just about everything from rogue raccoons in ATMs to emotional support alligators, this was new territory.
What Happens Next?
As of now, there’s been no official disciplinary action announced. The Detroit Police Department hasn’t commented publicly, and the judge appeared to let the hearing proceed without further issue.
Still, the clip raises questions—mainly, what are the rules for virtual professionalism in a courtroom? Is “half a uniform” enough? Should departments issue guidelines like “camera framing must not include knees”?
Legal analysts joked that while no law was broken, “pantsless proceedings” probably aren’t in the best interests of justice—or dignity.
Lessons from the Couch
The pandemic taught us that professionalism doesn’t always require an office. But it also reminded us that a webcam is a cruel, unblinking mirror. It doesn’t care about intent. It cares about lighting, angles, and what’s visible below your beltline.
So, if there’s a takeaway from Officer Jackson’s misadventure, it’s this: never trust your laptop camera, and always trust your pants.
Even Detroit’s hardest-working cops aren’t immune to a little human error. We’ve all clicked “Join Meeting” too early or realized our background was chaos. Jackson just took it to the next level—literally, from the couch.
Detroit Humor at Its Finest
At the end of the day, this story isn’t about ridicule. It’s about relatability. Detroiters know how to laugh at themselves—and at life’s ridiculous moments. Whether it’s potholes, Lions heartbreak, or pantsless Zoom calls, we survive it all with a smirk.
As one local commenter put it: “If this is the weirdest thing to happen in Detroit this week, we’re doing great.”
Case Closed
The hearing may have ended normally, but the image of a uniformed officer caught mid-brief will live on in Detroit lore—somewhere between the legend of the Naked Jogger and that time someone tried to drive a pontoon down I-75.
So yes, we’ve seen it all. Or at least almost all. Because no matter how many odd headlines come out of this city, Detroit always manages to find a new way to surprise us—one leg at a time.

“How do you feel about capris coming back?” I DM’d my best friend, forwarding her the above Hailey Bieber look. “Do NOT try those,” she warned me. And that just made me all the more tempted to re-create the outfit. *Smirks* If you consider yourself an avid shopper and you’re also on TikTok, then you probably already know that both capri pants and polka dots are major summer fashion trends for 2025. So when Bieber pulled off both in one fell swoop, rocking her Paloma Wool Aneu Leggings — which are sadly sold out, though they look similar to the Reclaimed Vintage Polka Dot Print Capri Pants ($40) and Afrm Gianna Capri Pant ($58) — I wondered if I, too, could handle the chaos — you know, without being a supermodel and everything.
Accessorizing with similar ’90s minimalist accessories, from flip-flop heels to Matrix-worthy sunglasses, did help. I also opted for shorter denim capris, selecting the ASOS Design Denim Capri in Mini Polka Dot ($43), to provide a bit more structure and help me balance proportions, since Bieber stands taller than me by seven inches. And honestly? Once I was wearing the capris, I really warmed up to the pant length — so much so that the silhouette felt less polarizing than the bold print.
While I do understand the adverse reaction many folks have to capris (i.e. “How could those be flattering?”), I think it comes down to choosing the inseam that’s right for your body type, and that may take some trial and error. Plus, capris have some perks! They allow for a bold shoe moment, play into nostalgia (more on that below), and are a great transitional season pant to try when the temperature’s unpredictable.
Are Capri Pants Back in Style For 2025?
Capri pants became a pop culture staple synonymous with style icons like Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, and Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s and 1960s, but they also saw a resurgence in the early 2000s, when girls sported low-slung, cargo iterations with platform flip-flops and polos (think: “The O.C.”). Their modern-day revival can be traced back to spring/summer 2025 runways — from Louis Vuitton to Sandy Liang — and the subsequent celebrity stamp of approval. (Hailey Bieber! Keke Palmer! Kendall Jenner! Dua Lipa!)
Lucky for you, I sorted through the hottest capris of the moment and rounded up the best iterations for you to shop if you want to dip your toe. I promise, they’re not as intimidating as they seem.

Good American is known for its innovative material, B-corp certified production, and inclusivity when it comes to sizing. To be frank, I wish every denim brand looked a lot more like this one. And when I heard the label was re-launching its bestselling Soft-Tech jeans for fall, I knew PS editors had to be among the first to test out the new selection. GA introduced some of its signature silhouettes, like the Good Waist Palazzo Jeans, Good Curve Bootcut, and Good Petite, in this curve-hugging fabric that’s honestly pretty game-changing (not to give everything away right here on the spot).
What’s so great about the Soft-Tech denim? It’s one of the most sustainable fibers on the market, according to the brand, blending a lightweight, silk feel and TENCEL™ to create a flexible and soft jean that magically lifts and flatters in all the right places. In other words, it provides a surprising amount of structure for feeling like a pair of leggings when you pull them on.
PS editors are well-versed in product testing, and we’ve tried some of the most renowned denim brands on the market — from Madewell to Levi’s to Gap — so we took a very meticulous approach to delivering our reviews. Ahead, you can see photos of us modeling four different styles; read about our experiences not just wearing, but washing these jeans; and choose the pair that’s right for you if you’re down to invest. Sorry for yet another spoiler, but I highly doubt you’ll regret it.

Shopping for jeans can involve a lot of trial and error, especially when you’re experimenting with a new silhouette. If you’ve been tempted to try the polarizing yet inescapable trend of barrel leg jeans, you’re not alone. As a shopping editor, I’ve been obsessively seeking the perfect pair — one that boasts a subtle, flattering shape; feels fresh, but classic enough to have a smidge of longevity. As a Madewell denim fan (the brand’s Emmett Patch-Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans are my favorite), I was thrilled to see that the label released its own interpretation of a barrel leg cut. Madewell’s Darted Barrel Leg Jeans ($148) are the pair I landed on and have been wearing non-stop.
What I Love About Madewell’s Darted Barrel Leg Jeans
These jeans have a fitted waist, bow out around the middle of the leg, and have a tapered ankle. While there’s enough mid-leg volume to capture the barrel leg look, it isn’t as exaggerated as Free People’s version, or a lot of others on the market. To help emphasize the curved leg shape, this pair has darts at the knees to create a sort of optical illusion, instead of tacking on more volume. The result is subtle and surprisingly flattering.
These jeans don’t have any stretch, but they’re ridiculously comfortable. They sit low at the waist and sort of dangle — the legs are structured but not stiff. I love that they feel like a baggy pair of jeans but have enough structure to still look polished. They also have a cropped ankle, so they don’t overwhelm my frame, and look great with everything from ballet flats to sneakers.
What’s Worth Noting About Madewell’s Darted Barrel Leg Jeans
These jeans are definitely oversize, so finding the right size can be tricky. I would suggest going one or two sizes down from your normal size. I’m usually a size 28 in Madewell jeans and am wearing a size 27, but I think I could have gotten away with a size 26 since they sit low on the waist. They also have a button fly instead of a zip fly, which is a bit of a pain when putting them on and taking them off.
Who Are Madewell’s Darted Barrel Leg Jeans Best For?
These jeans are perfect for anyone looking to test the barrel leg jean waters. If you’re ambivalent about the cut, these are a great entryway pair to experimenting with the trend. Since the cut is fairly subtle, they also feel a bit more classic than more exaggerated silhouettes.

I know, I know… Halloween is just hours away. But I’ve got you: here are 10 homemade costumes you can make with basic stuff you have around your house.
Now go!
Gumball machine: Cover the bottom ¾ of a white shirt with coloured pompoms. A ruffled skirt or tutu and leggings in a bright hue complete the look.
Mummy: All you need is lots and lots (and lots) of strips of white material. Mom tip: Make sure they have a separate top and bottom (to make bathroom breaks easier).
Pirate: You know all those torn clothes that are in the donation pile? Give them a new lease on life by tattering them further into a swashbucklin’ getup.
Astronaut: Cover a helmet with solid-coloured tape. Use two empty soda bottles that have been spray painted as a jetpack.
Robot: Now you finally have a use for all those oversized boxes you’ve been stashing in the garage “just in case.” Deck them out with colourful buttons and screens. Foil can be a great material to incorporate as well.
Pilot: A leather jacket and khaki pants are the basics. A cool helmet, aviator glasses (ski goggles could work), and cardboard wings complete the look.
Witch/Evil sorcerer. Whether it’s black clothing or a cool black cape (which can be fashioned out of a tablecloth or even a garbage bag), a pointed hat and maybe a broomstick are all you need to be a scary witch. Dollar store fangs are a fun extra.
Superhero: You can get super creative with this one. Felt is a great way to make a mask or eyewear or a cool emblem or logo for a shirt. An upcycled towel or piece of a sheet is a makeshift cape.
Baby as an old person: Is there anything cuter?! If you want the white hair, you can cover a small hat with cotton balls. Deck out their walking toy to look like, well, a walker, or give them a cane.
Bumblebee: A great costume for littles, just dress them up in any basic black outfit (one with stripes or polka dots can work too), and then add some homemade wings and a headband with antennae. Works for butterflies and ladybugs too.

I’m a sucker for wide-leg pants. I have superbaggy ’90s-era jeans that puddle at the heels, a cropped wide-leg pair in neon-hued cotton, wide-leg cargo pants with drawstrings at the hem, and the list goes on. The only thing missing in my collection was classic wide-leg denim. When I saw Madewell’s Emmett patch-pocket wide-leg jeans ($138), I was crossing my fingers they’d be a match. The darker wash, high-waisted cut, cute patch pockets, and subtle wide-leg was exactly what I was looking for. I grabbed them in my usual size and hoped for the best.
What I Love About Madewell’s Emmett Patch-Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans
The material is mostly cotton with a smidge of recycled polyester and elastane, so they feel especially soft and stretchy. The top of the jeans hit just above my belly button and almost feel like shapewear. As a mom of two, I prefer high-waisted jeans that offer plenty of belly support without feeling like I’m counting down the minutes until I can unbutton them. They mold to my curves and I can squat, bend over, and run around all day without the dreaded droopiness that sometimes happens towards the end of the day.
The style comes in a light wash, a darker wash, and a slightly faded black. I chose the darker wash (aka the Allentown Wash), and I’m really happy with it. It’s incredibly flattering and not too saturated. The pants have subtle distressing that mimics the look of a beloved pair of vintage jeans. With the high waist, patch pockets, and body-hugging material, they even remind me of some of the jeans my mom wore in the ’70s, only with a straighter, more narrow leg.
PS Photography | Angela Elias
What’s Worth Noting About Madewell’s Emmett Patch-Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans
While the soft, stretchy material and waist support offer a curve-hugging fit, they also feel tighter in the crotch compared to some of the looser cuts I have. It’s not visually detectable (no camel toe to report), but I noticed the feeling as soon as I pulled them on. That said, it bothered me less the longer I wore them. The closest thing I can compare it to is the way the first few minutes of wearing an underwire bra feel before you forget you’re even wearing one an hour later. As far as the style goes, it’s the slimmest wide-leg jean I’ve ever tried on, which I think makes it more classic and versatile.
Who Are Madewell’s Emmett Patch-Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans Best For?
These jeans feel sexy and casual; vintage-inspired yet classic all at the same time. They’re great for anyone who might just be dipping their toe into the wide-leg waters. In other words, if you’re drawn to wide-leg silhouettes but aren’t sure you want to invest in such a trendy style, this pair really does feel timeless.

I can’t believe I’m saying this either: but it’s time to start shopping for your fall clothes. You’ve probably seen a few fall fashion-focused TikToks…and stores have even started rolling out Halloween candy.
So yes, we’re looking ahead, but for good reason. First, I’m all about getting ahead of the trends. It’s why people buy UGGs in the summer: you can nab all of the good sizes and colors before the latest UGGs are even a gleam in everyone else’s eye.
If you wait until the last minute, chances are that stores are already stocking their shelves for winter…and we don’t have time for that.
This fall’s biggest trend? Skorts. Everywhere I go, I see at least one person sporting a skort. And while I love a good skort, I truly wasn’t expecting it. You can also expect brown — especially orange tones — to be this year’s color of the season.
We’re moving towards menswear again, emphasizing blazers and plaid tweed trousers. The fashion world is partial to softer, more professional-looking clothing after a summer-long soiree of florals and prints.
Even more interesting is the return of the polka dot. Not my favorite trend resurfacing, but a trend nonetheless. Move over garden party florals, here come unironic polka dots! In all forms.
So, if you’re looking to start your shopping a little early but want to avoid scrolling through TikTok to find the answers…here are our fall fashion trends for 2024!
Neutrals
Emma Chamberlain via Instagram
While summer 2024 was all about bright colors and fun prints, fall is more focused on neutrals. Since we’re already losing our tans, it can be easy to feel washed out in vibrant pinks and oranges…which is exactly why we’re leaning towards tans and browns.
Whether it’s a top or bottom, basics are essential for a successful wardrobe. If you’ve already built your capsule closet thanks to Hailey Bieber’s advice, or you’re looking to stock up on your favorite tee, make sure you pack in the neutrals so you’ll always have an acceptable outfit. Looking for fun neutrals? Here are my picks:
Think oversized cable knits and sailor sweaters. There’s nothing that screams fall more than a sweater you’re basically swimming in. Even though it’s still summer through most of September (and the weather reflects this), I start building my sweater collection early.
This year, I’m loving the retro bell sleeve style to truly get the most comfort out of your sweater style. Look out for notch neck collars and rugby-style sweaters as well. I love a good chunky sweater, here are my faves:
As I mentioned earlier, this one’s a bit weird for me to bring up. Definitely not my favorite trend. In fact, it’s one I think we’ll regret. But I digress, to each their own.
Expect to see a plethora of polka dots on dresses, shirts, pants, skirts — even sweaters! — this year. To my eyes, they’re not flattering and a bit childish. And reminiscent of my kindergarten teacher or a nasty matriarchal nanny in movies. Regardless, some influencer will somehow convince everyone to wear polka dots soon enough, I fear. If I had to wear polka dots, I’d wear these:
With trends like Quiet Luxury and Old Money aesthetics continuing to surge — thanks to the likes of Sofia Richie — may I introduce the English prep school style? It’s exactly what you’d imagine: blazers, corduroy, tweed, ties, button-downs, equestrian style.
Think of Bella Hadid’s recent equestrian outfits or Sofia Richie’s preppy looks. The idea is to look polished, a tad collegiate, and super studious. Almost as if you have a library date, or you spend your weekends reading Jane Austen. My favorite British boarding school pieces are:
Another trend I’ve seen a lot is a dark, romantic vibe. Textures like lace will be popular, or darker floral patterns. Gobs of gothic inspiration, yet with hyper-feminine features that help the piece pop.
Lace bodysuits, appliqued dresses, and more will be popular this fall. You’ll see lots of sheer layering, some rich jewel tones like emerald and ruby, and a touch of velvet. The dark romance theme is akin to royalty: luxurious fabrics, intentional draping, and deep hues. If you want some sheer style this fall, here are easy options:
No, the article isn’t over…I’m talking about the return of the wrap. Whether it’s a wrap poncho, coat, dress, or scarf, the wrap is back. And I’m here for it!
There’s nothing more chic or sassy than draping a simply gorgeous scarf around your head and shoulders when the temperature drops. I’m also loving the poncho style this fall, expect to see many more of these to pop up in stores. Here are my picks:

Few fashion brands are as synonymous with denim as Gap. The timeless American brand is a go-to destination for all things denim, including jackets, skirts, and, of course, jeans. Gap’s lineup always features classics like high-waisted, bootcut, and straight-leg styles in staple neutrals like black, gray, white, and classic blue. But every now and then, Gap also surprises us with trend-inspired designs and even nostalgic finds. Think flared styles reminiscent of the ’70s, mom jeans of the ’80s, and low-rise, baggy styles from the ’90s.
Whether you’re new to Gap jeans or a longtime fan looking to expand your collection, we’ve rounded up the 10 best pairs worth adding to your wardrobe. Our selection includes a mix of classic styles and trend-inspired options, with prices starting at under $50. You’ll find endless ways to style them, whether with a basic T-shirt and sneakers or dressed up with designer heels and a going-out top. So, what are you waiting for? If we’re being honest, the best clothes in our closet are things that can pull double duty. It’s sleek enough to wear to the office, yet comfy enough for casual days. It’s technically fitness gear, but you can still rock it on a night out with friends. (You get the drill.)
Athleta is one brand that does versatility well. While it’s the go-to for activewear and leggings, it also makes joggers and trousers that were built for both fashion and function. So, whenever there’s an opportunity to shop Athleta’s pants on sale, we take it — which is why we’re currently rushing to stock up on some options before the brand’s spring sale is over.

Today, we’re continuing that series!

Today, we’ll be listing the pants you need for your old money wardrobe. From oversized trousers to chic capris, we’ll explain the styles that scream old money the most.
Read on to learn the old money pants styles you should be shopping for, plus tips for styling old money pants!
Old Money Style Pants for Women
Classic Silhouettes
As mentioned earlier, the key to nailing old money style is to first focus on classic silhouettes.
For example, the hourglass shape is classic and will always be in style for your outfits.
To achieve this, start with a pair of trousers that fit you at your natural waist. Then, add a bustier like this one for a trendy take on classic, quiet luxury style.
Neutral Colors
Another important thing to note when shopping for old-money clothing is colors! In general, old money-style clothing revolves around neutral colors.
So, in the context of old money pants, you should be focusing on finding tan, white, grey, black, brown, and navy pieces.
Neutral pants will go with everything in your wardrobe and will remain in style for decades to come.
Quality Fabric
Also, fabric is really important when it comes to achieving old money style.
For example, a very common old money fabric is tweed. Often associated with the brand Chanel, tweed is luxurious and synonymous with quality.
In addition, natural fibers like wool, cotton, and silk are also hallmarks of old money style. Look for pants in these fabrics to nail the look.
Old Money Pants We Love
Tailored Pants
No old money wardrobe would be complete without a pair of classic tailored trousers.
Tailored pants are just what you need to add to your looks to make you have more of an old money style.
My favorite thing about tailored pants is you can wear them for basically any occasion, depending on how you style them!
For example, you can wear them with some cute sneakers and a blouse for an everyday look, or you could even pair them with a blazer and heels for an outfit that is fancier.
Pinstripe Pants
Another pant style that gives off an old-money vibe is the pinstripe pant!
Pinstripe pants are reminiscent of classic business suits, and they’re so flattering and cute. These pants are also easy to style because you can wear them with multiple outfits!
For example, some heels and a short-sleeved shirt will give you a super cute and chic look with these pants.
Foldover Pants
One other type of pant that is popular right now that also will give you the old money look is foldover pants!
These pants are basically tailored pants with a fold-over design at the top. This style of pants adds something a little extra to your look so that you will stand out.
So, if you want a simple pair of pants but also want to look trendy and chic, I recommend these pants that come in black with a white foldover design at the top for an edgy and chic look.
Silk Pants
If you are looking for a comfy pair of old money pants that you can wear for everyday looks, you might be interested in these silk pants!
What I love about these silk pants is they look very chic and classy, but they also are simple to style and insanely comfortable for casual days.
You can totally also wear these pants for fancier occasions if you wear some cute heels with a blouse or fitted top!
Wide-Leg Pants
If you like the tailored pants look, you might also like these pants! These pants are tailored as well, however, they are a wide-leg pant, which gives them a bit of a different kind of fit.
These pants are a little looser of a style and have wider legs and a nipped-in waist for a trendy, vintage-inspired silhouette.
Again, you can style these for casual or formal occasions since they’re so versatile and simple.
Tailored Cargo Pants
If you are looking for an old money-style pair of pants that looks even more trendy, you may want to check out tailored cargo pants like these!
Cargo-style pants have been very popular recently, so if you like this style of pants but want to change the vibe of your wardrobe to more of an old-money style, these tailored cargos are a perfect compromise.
Capri Pants
You might also be interested in a pair of pants that has a more fitted style. If so, then you should check out capri pants like these!
Capri pants have a more fitted style than the usual tailored pants, and they also come a bit shorter. They’re very classic if you buy them in a solid, neutral color like black.
These pants look great when styled with a cute sweater and heels, and they’re perfect for warmer weather.
Plaid Pants
You can also get tailored pants in different kinds of patterns that will give you the old-money vibe!
For example, plaid pants like these will add something different to your wardrobe that you can wear to give you a more old-money vibe to your outfits.
And what you will love even more about these pants is how neutral they are. Instead of a bright, garish plaid, these are nice and muted which is key for a quiet luxury look.
Wool Pants
Other than tweed, another kind of fabric to look for when creating an old-money wardrobe is wool!
Wool pants like these will give you a fancier look with your outfits and are also high-quality so they’ll last for years.
These pants would be great to wear for a fancier or professional event with a blazer and some heels!
Flowy Pants
Here’s another super trendy take on old money style — oversized flowy trousers.
If you like the tailored pants look but want to wear something a bit more casual, these are the perfect medium.
Even though they are flowy, the style and look of these pants will still give off the old-money vibe that you want, and you will definitely look trendy!
Tweed Pants
As mentioned above, tweed is another type of fabric that is very common in old money style clothing!
So, when shopping for your new wardrobe, you might also want to check out pants made of tweed fabric.
These pants give off total Chanel vibes!
Houndstooth Patterns
Another type of pattern that you may be interested in when shopping for your old money looks is the houndstooth pattern!
While the cut of the pants above is a bit on the trendier side rather than classic, the houndstooth print is a must to add to your old money wardrobe.
You could wear these pants casually, as seen above, or for a true old-money look, I’d style them with a button-down shirt, sweater, and ballet flats.
Styling Tips for Old Money Pants
1. Creating Versatile Looks
What’s great about wearing old-money-style pants is you can wear them for more casual events or even for events that are a bit fancier.
Just pair your pants with a blouse for a cute but chic everyday look. Or, you can pair your old money pants with a bodysuit and blazer to get a fancier look!
2. Adding Trendy Pieces
Adding other trendy pieces to your look will give you an even more fun outfit! For example, you could pair your outfit with trendy accessories like chunky loafers or ballet flats to add fun to your look.
Or, you could purchase trendier old money pants, like tailored cargo pants, to really upgrade your style!
3. Dressing Up Your Pants Looks
To switch from day to night look with old money pants, all you need to do to make your outfit look more fancy is add some heels or a fancy blazer to complete your look!

I used to be a jeans person. Honestly, pre-pandemic it would be a rare sighting if you caught me wearing anything other than my trusty blue—or black, or white—jeans. Every single one of my outfits revolved around the classic wardrobe staple—whether I was dressing up and adding heels and a blazer or down with boots and a knit or sandals and a vest top in summer. Of course, there’s no denying that all of the above are still failsafe capsule wardrobe formulas, and from time to time I still turn to these enduring classics. However, rather than jeans, these days the most worn items in my wardrobe are my wide-leg trousers.
Yep, in recent years thanks to a combination of craving more comfort from my wardrobe post-pandemic, wanting my day-to-day looks to feel more polished since I turned thirty, and the explosion of wide-leg trousers as a trend across both the luxury and high street markets, I’ve gradually shelved my stiff denim in favor of their smarter tailored counterpart.
Let’s be honest: Most of us seem to be seeking out looks that scream wealth without breaking the bank. It’s no surprise that the obsession with all things quiet luxury is still going strong, no matter how many times we’ve heard the now-ubiquitous term. There is just simply nothing like the confidence boost you get when you are wearing a great outfit that gives off a rich vibe—or the boost you get from all the compliments when you are out and about in one of these looks.
In fact, I have noticed that when I wear certain pieces, friends start doling out comments like, “You look so rich in that,” or something to that effect. Any time this happens, I make sure I take a mental note of the key part of the outfit so I can replicate the vibe in the future. As of late, this has looked like everything from trendy scarf coats all the way to camel-hued classics. Scroll on to check out five key pieces that are guaranteed to give any outfit an instant rich-looking feel.
Chloë Sevigny has been our style queen since pretty much forever. So when she makes an appearance, we tend to take notes. Recently, Sevigny braved the crazy-cold temperatures last week in New York City, wearing a lush winter look comprised of navy tuxedo-striped trousers, a fluffy black coat, and a playful bag. And while mixing black and blue is not breaking any fashion rules, it can be challenging to pull off.
But then again, if anyone can make a fashion statement in mismatched trousers and a topcoat, it’s Sevigny. So this is your sign to give your blue jeans a break and try out this wide-leg style that is trending this season. It looks much more elevated, and if it’s super cold, you can always wear long underwear underneath. (Trust me on this.)
Keep scrolling to check out wide-leg pants that we think would be Sevigny approved. Stick with basic black, mix it up with navy blue, or have fun with pinstripes and pretty fabrics. Bonus points if you get ’em tailored to fit perfectly with your favorite stacked-heel boots.
It will never surprise me how uncannily accurate the results are from algorithm-based platforms, like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok, in suiting my tastes when it comes to fashion. Whenever I need a closet revamp, I heavily rely on the variety of looks I see on Instagram from some of the most stylish of fashion girls around the globe. As soon as I see something that inspires me, I immediately save it and designate it to one of the appropriate folders I already have set up for all the seasons.
With cold weather on the brain, I thought it would be fun to take a dive into my winter outfits folder and share some of the formulas that are on point this season. From casual chic to “mob wife” vibes, each outfit is incredibly stylish and elevated, plus they cover a variety of occasions. Scroll on to check out five stylish winter outfit formulas that stood out the most—featuring key pieces like long coats, cool denim, standout shoes, and much more.

Whether you’re zipping down the mountain, tubing, or cross-country skiing, you’re going to need a bunch of gear to stay comfortable. One of the key pieces you’ll need is a trusty pair of skipants. And who better to consult than folks who practically live on the slopes? I asked a handful of professional skiers for the best women’s ski pants on the market, and I can assure you their top picks include something for everyone.
When looking for ski pants, you should consider comfort, fit, breathability, design, and style. Let’s start with comfort. Do the pants allow for free range of movement while you ski or do they feel too restrictive? For fit, are you aiming for a looser- or tighter-fitting garment? While some skiers prefer to be snug, others opt for snowboard pants or men’s sizing to achieve a baggier feel.
You might be wondering why breathability is mentioned here. Although you might think you should buy pants that keep you extra warm, you may very well break a sweat at some point during the day and wish you had ordered a more lightweight pair. Luckily, some pants feature design elements that release heat. As for design, I’m really talking about practicality. You’re likely not bringing a purse, backpack, or any kind of bag with you on the slopes. So ideally, your ski pants have plenty of pockets and compartments to store all of your essentials (think sunscreen, chapstick, your valuables, hand warmers, and snacks).
Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to pick ski pants that match your personal style. Whether you want to blend in with versatile neutrals or make a bold statement in the lift lines, our experts’ picks have got you covered.
So without further ado, keep scrolling to discover the absolute best women’s ski pants, according to professional skiers.

“These pants are the perfect combination of practicality and style. I love that they offer a feminine style without being too form-fitting and tight. Bibs are also a must for me when skiing and these have the high back that keeps any snow out!”
“These pants are breathable, comfortable, and are resistant to all the wear and tear that skiing puts them through. I love a bit of a baggier fit, so I wear the snowboard-style pants while competing. I also love the pop of color — it’s always fun to represent the USA in our color scheme while competing on the road!”

Sofia Richie just proved that she certainly knows how to dress for winter in L.A., in case you had any doubt. Richie stepped out for dinner over the weekend in a chocolate brown outfit which she paired with black accessories (no longer a color-pairing faux pas, as you can see). To elevate her casual, oversized wool coat, Richie opted for a monochromatic look and went with brown leather pants instead of jeans.
Richie’s perfect pants are from celeb-favorite brand Agolde. The interesting thing about Agolde’s “leather” pants is that they’re made of a blend of recycled leather, polyurethane, and polyester. It keeps the cost down and makes them easier to care for than 100% leather pants. Given this and that chocolate brown is a major color trend this season (but is also a classic), these pants would be a wise investment—especially since they’re currently 20% off on Nordstrom. Scroll to shop those and more Agolde leather pants.

Although football may be the focus of an NFL game, as it turns out, there a plenty of other reasons to tune in and watch. You might spot Taylor Swift cheering in the crowd, for one. Or, you could find your new favorite pair of pants.
The Miami Dolphins’ head coach, Mike McDaniel, has you covered when it comes to the second category. He has an impressive sense of style, and while he’s been spotted in everything from Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers to hoodies layered over T-shirts, many have wondered where to buy McDaniel’s rolled-up joggers.
PHOTO: MEGAN BRIGGS/GETTY IMAGES
Reddit users have rushed to the forum to specifically ask about McDaniel’s gray pants, which he often wears on the sidelines at Dolphins games.
The consensus is that McDaniel’s pants are the ABC Joggers from Lululemon, ringing in at $128. The design comes in multiple different shades, including Silver Drop, and ranges from size XS to 5XL. Short and tall sizes are also available.
At one point, it seems the pants came in a beige colorway, which McDaniel scooped up and still keeps in his rotation. Sadly, that version is no longer available, but there are plenty of other shades to choose from.
McDaniel’s go-to pants appear to be the ABC Joggers in Silver, which he often wears with a sweatshirt on the sidelines of Miami Dolphins games.

Part of the draw when it comes to these pants is that they’re athletic wear, but the slightly structured, tapered fit makes them feel more elevated. There’s nothing stopping you from rocking this beige pair with everything from a casual T-shirt to a crisp white button-down.

The ABC Joggers are also sold in basic black, making them an even more versatile addition to your everyday wardrobe.

A few colorways are currently on sale, including Dark Forest green, which gives these classic pants a unique twist.
