10 Beauty Products That Channel Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz

At the end of every year, Pantone chooses a color to define the year ahead. The color choice is often incredibly apt. Last year, Viva Magenta seemed to perfectly predict the Barbiecore moment that 2023 was about to go through for the majority of the year. In 2021, Pantone chose two shades—Illuminating, a vibrant yellow, and Ultimate Grey, a classic slate—that encapsulated the hope and fear the world felt in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, Pantone chose Peach Fuzz, a light, effervescent shade of peach. Peach Fuzz feels like the natural progression from millennial pink—it’s a bit warmer and feels more inviting.

“Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration,” Pantone shared in their announcement. “A warm and cozy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates, Peach Fuzz presents a fresh approach to a new softness. An appealing peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, Peach Fuzz inspires belonging, recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from.”

  • The Vintage Allure Of 2024 Pantone Color Of The Year

The Vintage Allure Of 2024 Pantone Color Of The Year

Although recent years have been pink-heavy, thanks to the influence of The Wing, Glossier, and all those 2010s girlboss brands, peach has its own niche appeal. On the red carpet front, Florence Pugh has an affinity for the color; she’s worn several great peach outfits in the past few years (including multiple looks by Valentino and one fabulous tulle number by Rodarte). Zoe Kravitz has stunned in peach (top photo), as has Allison Williams. The color also plays a huge role in the balletcore aesthetic, a dancer-off-duty style of dressing that has been bouncing around TikTok and Instagram for the past few seasons. In fact, Peach Fuzz is precisely the shade of my daughter’s little ballerina slippers (I distinctly remember buying a peach-colored dance bra back in my junior high years as well). Again, the amount of peach in fashion is what makes this COTY feel particularly accessible. If you don’t already have a peach item in your closet, it won’t be hard to add. Just visit a vintage shop or your local Danskin.

  • Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year Is ‘Viva Magenta’

Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year Is ‘Viva Magenta’

Pantone’s 2023 color of the year is a “a carmine red,” made in conjunction with an AI tool, named Viva Magenta. Per a press release, it is “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time.”

The hue is as exuberant as the feeling of coming “back outside” post-lockdown, which even Beyoncé sang in this year’s chart-topping hit “Break My Soul.” It’s inspired by cochineal, a precious dye that typically comes from a scale insect. But more than being unique in getting its inspiration from critters, Pantone’s 2023 color of the year is different than all the rest in a major way: It’s metaverse-ready.
