  • The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

    [ad_1]

What to Avoid: The term “business” is an important addition to this category. While the sleek jeans you styled for a casual dinner can be considered acceptable in certain business settings, focus on chic pants to err on the side of caution.

What to Wear: Business casual, though it may seem obscure for a restaurant, is easy to understand, as it’s what one would typically wear to work. While that concept can become a little hazy for the fashion person who wears trendier outfits to the office, the idea is to maintain a professional, appropriate, and elegant appearance. Imagine the outfit you would wear when taking a client out to lunch. Personally, this brings to mind tailored pants, an oversize blazer, and a button-down with a pair of simple oxford loafers. Sophisticated and stylish but not overly stuffy.

  • I Just Built 5 Expensive-Looking Outfits from ASOS and H&M

I Just Built 5 Expensive-Looking Outfits from ASOS and H&M

    [ad_1]

We fashion editors are often asked about how to curate the perfect wardrobe, and the answer is often the same: versatility. In an ideal world, your wardrobe should include some timeless, premium pieces mixed in amongst more affordable trend-led items (extra points for any vintage and secondhand pieces you can wear). This mix of brands and price points will help your clothing will reflect your personality, and above all else, dressing in a way that is true to you is what makes fashion fun.

That being said, I totally understand the appeal of building a capsule wardrobe from just one store. First of all, it’s an effective use of your time. (No one wants to traipse around the shops or endlessly scroll through every new-in section.) And secondly, pieces from the same store tend to look seamlessly pulled together as we know all too well that a brand’s honed aesthetic can make or break your chances of shopping success. Two of the brands that we spend the most time looking at are ASOS and H&M. The sites are veritable treasure troves of new-in pieces ranging from affordable takes on runway trends to everyday basics, so there’s an overwhelming amount to sift through. That’s where we step in. Below, I’ve assembled five expensive-looking outfits that are guaranteed to work for every occasion in your social calendar.

  • It’s Peak Bad Girl Fashion Era, 7 Outfits That Prove It

It’s Peak Bad Girl Fashion Era, 7 Outfits That Prove It

    [ad_1]

When Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad album dropped, no black corset or edgy bob cut was safe. Rihanna’s transformation from a fresh-faced girl next door to an It-girl siren felt like a dramatic shift out of nowhere and the whole world took notice. Right about now, there’s a similar moment happening in fashion. While LBDs and stilettos have always been a regular part of the It-girl style diet, looking at the crowd of designers who have put their full weight behind underwear-exposing pieces, and skin-tight bodysuits, it feels like a very defined shift towards the risqué side of things. There’s no buzzy, collective name for it, but with the influx of see-through statement dresses and sky-high revenge heels, I’ve taken to calling it the Bad Girl fashion era.

Just looking at the warm reception of Saint Laurent and Alaia’s spring-summer 2023 offerings, it’s pretty evident that showing skin is in. While the Bad Girl aesthetic is multi-faceted, the general approach is to stick with skin-exposing cutouts or underwear-revealing garments in shades of black. For those daring enough to take on the trend, I’ve compiled a list of 7 amazing outfits to reference to get the seductive mood right. Keep clicking for the best in show of Bad Girl fashion.

  • Don’t Try Wearing the Preppy Trend Without Exploring These 2023 Updates

Don’t Try Wearing the Preppy Trend Without Exploring These 2023 Updates

    [ad_1]

I live for preppy style. I ended up falling madly in love with fashion even though I wore a school uniform my entire childhood. The funniest part is that while many of my classmates complained about the restraints of knee-length skirts and uniform dressing, I loved the uniformity. I had so much fun bending the rules by layering on knits over my Oxford shirts and testing out different kinds of knee-high socks. We all wore the same outfit every day yet somehow made it different. It was so interesting for me to watch.

A few years later, I entered adulthood, coincidentally around the time that preppy style really took off with its reemergence into the fashion industry. Designers who stuck with this aesthetic like Burberry, Thom Browne, and Marc Jacobs rejoiced, and so did I, as I got to keep some nostalgic notes from my childhood hanging in my closet.

The school-girl aesthetic has been having its moment for a few years now, so as I prepare my wardrobe for a big entrance into 2023, I’m thinking about the ways that I can keep my preppy style growing and evolving while keeping in mind that the timelessness is what makes this aesthetic so fun to tap into. Come along with me on this journey by shopping my picks below.

  • The 17 Celebrity Outfits of 2022 That Will 100% Go Down in Fashion History

The 17 Celebrity Outfits of 2022 That Will 100% Go Down in Fashion History

    [ad_1]

We may say this at every turn around the sun, but we stand firmly in the belief that 2022 was an epic year for celebrity style. On the one hand, things got extra nostalgic with looks that turned the clocks back to the early 2000s, while on the other hand, “weird” trends emerged from seemingly out of nowhere.

It was the year that Julia Fox (and her dramatic cat-eyes) became a household name. It was also the year of celebrity outfits becoming memes of their own right (looking at you, Miss Flo), and it marks the complete overhaul of pregnancy dressing thanks to none other than Rihanna. We also saw newer faces like Sydney Sweeney and Taylor Russell slice away at their share of the zeitgeist with a spate of dazzling looks that flex the relationships they’ve forged with Miu Miu and Schiaparelli, respectively.

Of course, how could we forget Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala or Meghan Markle’s grand return to London? Before we dive into the New Year, we thought we’d take stock of the year in fashion, so continue on to see the looks we’re crowning the best celebrity outfits of 2022. One thing is clear: 2023 will have some big sartorial shoes to fill.

    [ad_1]

I cannot believe that 2022 is already coming to an end. I feel like I blinked, and the year went by. But there’s something about the start of a new year that I have always loved. That feeling of wiping away the slate clean and going into a new, untouched year full of possibilities. Who knows who you’re going to meet, what new friendships you’re going to make, and what adventures you will embark on? Maybe you’ll get a new job, or maybe this is the year you get married or move to that city you have always dreamed of living in.

There’s just something about a new year that feels like anything is possible. While my list of resolutions for 2023 is very long, at the top of that list is making sure it is my chicest year yet. In 2022, I became a fashion editor, which has obviously upped my game when it comes to my personal style, but now that I’ve been in this role for a while, my style has only gotten better, and I plan on bringing it when it comes to my looks for 2023. I rounded up five outfit ideas that are simple, easy, and guaranteed to look chic for the New Year. If I don’t know where to look when shopping at a large retailer, I often see if it has a team of stylists on staff. Usually, their services are free or at a low cost, and they know the product inside and out. One such retailer that offers such a service is Nordstrom, which has people across the country ready to guide you through its extensive collection of clothing.

In the digital age, window-shopping is often done from behind a screen. It can be tempting to look at the designer items we can’t really afford (especially during the holidays) or imagine ourselves wearing a piece of clothing we may not have the occasion to wear, like, ever. That’s where the expertise of Nordstrom’s stylists comes into play. If you have classic style just like I do or want to prioritize your spending on versatile pieces you can wear on a daily basis, you’ve clicked on the right article.

Not only are these outfits classic, sharp, and stylish (they’re my personal favorites, after all), but each item can also be worn in a variety of different ways and for various occasions. Silk pants, pleated maxi skirts, and structured tote bags are staples you can style for work, dinner parties, and even date nights. Keep scrolling to discover my top picks.

Gwyneth Paltrow Just Wore Birkenstocks in the Most November-in-L.A. Way

    [ad_1]

There are certain celebrities that I instantly associate with L.A., and one of them is Gwyneth Paltrow. Everything about her screams sophisticated Southern California, including her effortless-yet-chic wardrobe. Speaking of Los Angeles, it follows its own set of rules when it comes to fall and winter weather, and so do its residents when it comes to their fall and winter wardrobes.

Recently, L.A. resident Paltrow stepped out for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in a Birkenstock outfit that made perfect sense for the oft-mild Los Angeles weather. It consisted of black Bermuda shorts, a red belted cardigan, and shiny black Birkenstock sandals. The combination proved to be the perfect fall-in-L.A. Birkenstock outfit, but if you live somewhere a little less mild than L.A. is in November, just add jeans or trousers (and maybe socks…).

“What do straight-leg jeans, a blazer, and a white button-down all have in common? They are the holy trinity of closet essentials. But through a lot of hits and misses over the years and experimenting with different styles and trends, we have learned one crucial tip that we now swear by. Basics are our best friend.”

“Thankfully, as we’ve gotten older, our fashion choices have gotten wiser. We’ve each developed our own signature styles by anchoring our wardrobes with the basics and then adding accessories and seasonal trends to bring out our fashion personalities. This Once “Ugly” Skirt Trend Is Extremely Cool Now

    [ad_1]

If we’d told you a couple of years ago that knee-length skirts were going to be cool again soon, you might’ve questioned our authority. Perhaps we should’ve because here we are. This has, undoubtedly, been the year of the skirt, with maxi and miniskirts dominating our attention and the stock at practically every retailer. Now, it’s the ’90s-inspired knee skirt’s turn.

Knee skirts have a fair share of “frumpy, ugly” connotations, but as Emily Ratajkowski proved for a night out over the weekend, those thoughts are fading away. EmRata paired a low-rise tiger-print skirt with a tied-up button-down shirt and black leather Khaite boots, proving that knee-length skirts aren’t just for office skirt suits anymore. To avoid the corporate vibe they’re known for, follow EmRata’s lead and choose fun, trend-forward pieces to pair with yours, and maybe avoid the basic pumps.
