I Live for Couture Week—Here’s How I’m Re-Creating the Best Looks

Let’s be honest for a moment. Fashion can feel frivolous at times, especially within the context of contemporary couture. It can sometimes feel ostentatious compared to our approachable capsule wardrobe. Because modern couture is inaccessible to most consumers and there’s so much happening in the world, it’s only natural for most to ask, Is haute couture really that serious? I’d never surmise that it would have the weight that so many other topics do in the world, but I’d also never discount its influence. Like it or not, couture has often acted as a reflection of current times—it can tell us what’s happening in the stars and the stock exchange. Long before something blows up on TikTok, you better believe its origins can be traced back to couture fashion week.

The essence of what’s fashionable always comes back to haute couture because it’s about the craft of making clothing. It’s not about hyperconsumption; it’s about the art. That feels particularly topical as more conversations in the cultural canon center on the idea of adopting the quiet luxury ethos—the shift from keeping up with trends to investing in timeless items. Couture offers people a permission slip to escape from the never-ending trend cycle, and it’s a way to fall in love with well-made clothing again. At best, couture can make us see the world in a new light or, at the very least, change our wardrobes. If you’re still not convinced about how couture can apply to your relationship with your own closet, you’ll want to keep reading.

After hours of image research, I’ve narrowed down the six best spring/summer 2024 couture collections based on how they made haute couture feel relatable to our everyday lives. Plus, I’ve identified three looks from each show that are easy to re-create with shopping recommendations. Prepare to become a lover of haute couture.

After scrolling through my Saved images on Instagram, it became evident that the chicest fashion people are wearing jean jackets more regularly again—similarly to how bomber jackets are more popular.

Given its highly versatile nature and ability to be paired with a range of casual outfits, a jean jacket could easily be deemed a wardrobe staple. You may have one already in your offering, but if you’re looking to refresh that wardrobe or want to add a stylish jean jacket into your rotation once and for all, I rounded up the best jean jackets for you below. These Are the 2024 Trends I Think Princess Kate Would Adore

    [ad_1]

Princess Kate Middleton is one of the biggest trendsetters regarding royal fashion on the global stage, ushering in concepts like slideshow dressing, colorful outerwear, and even rewearing favorite pieces with updated hemlines and accessories. As a royal family member, her fashion sense tends to be more conservative than flashy, but that doesn’t mean the princess is above trying out a few of the more eye-catching trends of 2024

Middleton has already dabbled in several of this year’s most visible trends, from semi-sheer fabrics to coquette embellishments like rosettes and bows. Of course, as an alumnus of St Andrews, she has the prep-school trend down to a science and is never one to shy away from a radiant red accent

Given the recent news that the princess will be abstaining from public appearances while she recovers from a recent surgical procedure, we thought it might be fun to pull some fun, on-trend pieces that might pique her interest come spring. • 7 Outfit Formulas I’ll Never Wear Again (and 7 I’m Wearing on Repeat)

7 Outfit Formulas I’ll Never Wear Again (and 7 I’m Wearing on Repeat)

    [ad_1]

I’ve worn a lot of outfits in my lifetime and tried on even more. There are a few that I’ve worn some variation of hundreds of times and will probably continue to wear for decades to come. At the same time, there are many that, despite my trying to make them work countless times, just weren’t worth a second go. That, or they were worn for years but simply no longer match my sense of style or the ways that fashion’s evolved. The more outfits you wear, the more you learn about what you like—and in turn don’t like.

Since entering into the new year, I’ve really cracked down on those fashion combinations that just don’t fit in with my style and/or current trends anymore, deciding to finally cut them off instead of holding out hope that they’ll make their way back into my good graces. In total, I’ve narrowed down my eliminations to seven full outfits, from skirt and dress looks to denim ones. Scroll down to see which ones I’m on the outs with and which will remain in my rotation indefinitely.

Casual Elegance Is My 2024 Vibe—8 Outfits I Just Screenshotted

    [ad_1]

I’ve noticed a major shift in the overarching fashion realm and maybe you’ve noticed it, too. Style right now is heading in a very elegant direction where we’ve taken a sharp pivot away from experimental Y2K trends and have begun embracing polished, grown-up, and utterly sophisticated looks. You might be thinking that this is simply the next phase of the quiet-luxury movement, and you wouldn’t be wrong about that. But the mood du jour is also one that’s inspired by the opulence of 1960s fashion with elements like A-line skirts, luxe duchess satin, and lots of belted silhouettes.

I could go on and on about it, but for the sake of this story, I’ll cut to the chase: I’m personally stepping into my elegant era in 2024 and have gathered the outfit inspiration I’m looking to emulate in the coming weeks and months. These looks are littering my mood board for their low-key polish that’s both chic and easy to wear without feeling overly costumey. Ahead, I’m sharing eight elegant outfit ideas that are quite effortless to put together.

  • The One Winter Coat Fashion People Regularly Wear to Look Wealthy

The One Winter Coat Fashion People Regularly Wear to Look Wealthy

    [ad_1]

Although we yearn for spring to come faster (albeit for warmer temperatures or the chance to switch up our wardrobes), the harsh truth is that we’re still in the midst of winter. Sure, we can try to be in denial by putting off pulling our puffer coats, thermal layers, and snow boots out of storage, but eventually, we have to face it. When that moment comes, it can be hard to succumb to the idea that your sartorial choices must be based more on function than fashion. But what if I told you you didn’t have to choose between the two? There’s a way to look chic and avoid being cold: faux-fur coats.

We know what you’re thinking. “Faux fur coats? Groundbreaking.” In all fairness, this type of outerwear has been around for a long time. Yes, we’ve seen this coat trend surge in popularity in the last few weeks for a few reasons, most obviously, the need for warmer outerwear as several cold fronts have swept across the northern hemisphere. But the most significant element at play has been social media, which has proliferated the cultural obsession with looking, well, wealthy. You can’t scroll through TikTok, Instagram, or even our site without seeing mentions of the “quiet luxury,” “mob wife,” or “old money” fashion aesthetics. (They have a grip on the zeitgeist, okay?!) It’s within this context that we’ve seen more of the fashion set reincorporate this coat style back into their winter wardrobes.

While one might think it’s “cliché” to incorporate a coat into your closet again just because it’s cool on social media, there’s something to be said about the continued allure of this style. It’s not just that faux-fur coats feel current—they also have an air of timelessness that no other coat style can compete with. Therefore, there one of the best items one can turn to when they want to look chic during a cold front. But if you find you’re still not sold why you should adopt this coat, you’ll want to keep reading.

Ahead, we’re sharing outfits from stylish people in New York, Copenhagen, and Paris to showcase how to style fuzzy coats. Plus, we’ve rounded up the 22 best faux-fur coats at every price point should you be inspired to partake in the trend for yourself. Trust us when we say this one coat will solve any winter woes almost as well as warmer weather (or money) can.

There are a few easy outfit formulas I personally wear and also like to recommend to others when they’re looking for ideas. A blazer combined with jeans and a simple top is one of the said ensembles. The other front-runner that I’m basically living in right now is a pair of relaxed jeans, a grey sweater in a roomier cut, and flat shoes. While inherently simple, there’s something so chic and effortless about this specific pairing.

  • Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Is My Leopard-Print Muse—4 Ways to Wear It Like Her

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Is My Leopard-Print Muse—4 Ways to Wear It Like Her

    [ad_1]

If you’re simultaneously obsessed with the latest micro-trends and too intimidated to test them out, you’ve come to the right place. This is Ways to Wear, a monthly series where editor Eliza Huber offers a dose of outfit inspiration focused on current trends that feel intriguing yet overwhelming at the same time. Consider it your guide to actually wearing the coolest items of the moment, no matter how puzzling they might appear at first.

In fashion, a few years never pass by without at least one person trying to make leopard print a thing again. The kitschy print will show up in a runway collection or outside of one of L.A.’s many celebrity hot spots (yes, I’m looking at you, Sushi Park and Giorgio Baldi) in the form of a velvet coat or pair of loafers, leading to a bevy of content surrounding its return to fashion’s good graces. It rarely sticks, though, and I think I know why.

Whenever leopard print has become a “trend,” it’s always done so in a way that feels excessive or over-the-top, but the times when it’s felt the most covetable are when it’s worn in a casual, laissez-faire manner that allows whatever item it’s printed on to become a timeless staple. There’s a reason why my leopard-print mood board doesn’t include very many images from the handful of times that leopard print has made waves in the last two decades. Instead, it mostly consists of photos from the ’80s and ’90s, where it’s donned by off-duty models and New York City muses completely nonchalantly—with jeans and a tee or a black turtleneck and matching pencil skirt. To make leopard print work, it has to appear effortless. No one managed to do just that better than Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Chalk it up to the ’90s being a huge part of my formative years, but I believe that that particular decade was one of the most stylish to date. While I usually enjoy perusing red carpet photos or editorials from the ’90s, there is one other photo locale that never disappoints when it comes to great fashion inspiration: the airport. I live in casual-cool outfits, and this is where celebrities tend to shine in that department. In fact, if you have an upcoming trip planned, I highly recommend taking a look at some of the best airport style of that time.

There are a plethora of chic ’90s airport looks archived on the internet, but I narrowed it down to eight that are classic and effortless yet spot-on with the current trends. • I'm an A-List Celeb Stylist— Here's How to Style a Puffer Jacket Right

I'm an A-List Celeb Stylist— Here's How to Style a Puffer Jacket Right

    [ad_1]

Puffer jackets and chic styling don’t often go together at first glance. How to style a puffer jacket isn’t top of mind for most people. Instead, winter dressing is usually about making sure that you’re mentally and emotionally ready to step out of the door without regretting not putting on that extra layer of clothing.

As a new-ish New Yorker who has never experienced a true winter in her entire life, I have to admit that I’m in the latter camp. So when it came to finding a winter jacket that both looked and felt good, I knew I had my work cut out for me—until I asked Karla Welch, that is.

Welch, who has years of experience styling top A-List clientele like Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, America Ferrera, Karlie Kloss, and Lorde, among others, partnered with Canada Goose this fall and winter to make puffer jacket outfits feel more like a creative choice rather than a chore.

“We really wanted to show how a warm functional coat can add to a look and become part of the entire fit vs. just something you wear to stay warm and dry,” Welch, who partnered with the legacy outwear brand in styling its fall/winter 2023 drop, explained. “This new collection is super flattering on the wearer and the color offerings are in arrays of muted tones with pastels here and there, that can easily work themselves into any wardrobe and on any type of person.”

She’s not wrong—a quick glance at the in-season offerings drastically shows that this isn’t your father’s bulky all-black winter puffer of the past. Earth tones and soft, muted mattes instantly elevate the collection, with a minimalist take on quilting, logos, and hardware from the Canada Goose design team.

  • Jennifer Lawrence's '90s Date-Night Fit Reminded Me That This Jean Style Is *It*

Jennifer Lawrence's '90s Date-Night Fit Reminded Me That This Jean Style Is *It*

    [ad_1]

Another day, another date-night outfit reveal at Sushi Park for the celebrity set. This time around, the culprit was Jennifer Lawrence, who hit up Sunset Boulevard’s famous strip-mall omakase restaurant over the weekend alongside her husband Cooke Maroney looking effortless and cool as always.

For the occasion, the No Hard Feelings actress took inspiration from an era long before her dinner destination opened in 2006, when the street-style stars were Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carla Bruni, and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Wearing Bottega Veneta by Matthieu Blazy from head to toe, Lawrence’s midriff-baring sweater, belted dark jeans, and leather blazer were ’90s to a T. She also added a white tee for layering purposes, a thick brown belt, and one of the Italian fashion brand’s Tosca Intrecciato-leather shoulder bags. When I saw photos of the final fit, I knew immediately that this would be one of those JLaw looks that made it to best-dressed roundups for years to come. It’s just that good.

But what really stood out to me about the look was the same thing that always does when I scroll through ’90s street-style shots: the jeans. Back then, everyone had great jeans, usually perfectly distressed Levi’s. They fit just right and kept every outfit looking casual and uncomplicated, which is exactly what Lawrence’s jeans did for her ensemble. And the only trait hers share with those aforementioned muses is the fact that they’re cut in a classic, straight silhouette. Scroll down to see Lawrence’s date-night look and shop the timeless denim style that always comes out on top.

I Found Sofia Richie's Trendy It-Color Pants on Sale at Nordstrom

    [ad_1]

Sofia Richie just proved that she certainly knows how to dress for winter in L.A., in case you had any doubt. Richie stepped out for dinner over the weekend in a chocolate brown outfit which she paired with black accessories (no longer a color-pairing faux pas, as you can see). To elevate her casual, oversized wool coat, Richie opted for a monochromatic look and went with brown leather pants instead of jeans.

Richie’s perfect pants are from celeb-favorite brand Agolde. The interesting thing about Agolde’s “leather” pants is that they’re made of a blend of recycled leather, polyurethane, and polyester. It keeps the cost down and makes them easier to care for than 100% leather pants. Given this and that chocolate brown is a major color trend this season (but is also a classic), these pants would be a wise investment—especially since they’re currently  20% off on Nordstrom.
