One Of The Best Puzzle Games Ever Gets A Spin-Off About How Filing Taxes Sucks

    [ad_1]

A Baba Files Taxes image of Baba staring at some jargon on a fictional tax document.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Hempuli aka Arvi Teikari, the developer behind the adorably excellent push-puzzler Baba Is You. Well, Teikari is back with another game in the Baba-verse. This time, though, instead of pushing objects and altering the rules of reality, you are pushing tax papers in a short exercise of comedic relief. That’s right, the white little critter is doing their taxes in the aptly titled Baba Files Taxes.

Read More: Baba Is You Is A Brilliant Puzzle Game

This new game, available for free on itch.io (Windows only), tasks you with helping the smol cat-dog thing get their taxes completed. There’s just one problem, though: the deadline to file is tonight! You’d better rush to get Baba’s paperwork done while there’s still time. What does this look like in practice? Basically, you’re forging Baba’s signature on a bunch of legal documents, which I’m pretty sure is a criminal offense, but hey! The government doesn’t know what’s going on, and you better not tell them! Besides, Baba’s just a lil guy, and as the game informs you early on, reading and writing are not among Baba’s strong suits.

    Icely Puzzles

Once you’ve filled out the papers filled with legalese as well as multiple-choice questions like “What are clouds made of?” and “What is emptiness?”, you’ll submit the papers to a purple blob person who asks a simple question: “What are taxes?” A waste of time, buddy. A total waste of time. You’ll also get graded for how well your signature matches Baba’s, which is hilariously ironic considering the creature doesn’t have actual hands. But I digress. In all, Baba Files Taxes will take you roughly 10-ish minutes to finish.

Though they’re not the same kind of game, Baba Files Taxes reminds me of Snoozy Kazoo’s Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. Maybe it’s because both games have “tax” in their titles, which makes my hairs stand up as we steadily approach the tax-filing season. The annual act is such a nuisance on its own, often becoming something of an IRL puzzle. Maybe Baba can help me file my taxes now that I’ve helped them, but to be honest, I’m not holding my breath. If you’re looking for something short and charming to check out, though, Baba Files Taxes is a quick hit before the floodgates open.

  • Google appeals huge Android antitrust fine to EU’s top court

Google appeals huge Android antitrust fine to EU’s top court

    [ad_1]

LONDON (AP) — Google is challenging a record European Union antitrust fine that took aim at the Android operating system’s role in restricting mobile competition and consumer choice.

The company said Thursday that it filed the appeal against the 4.125 billion euro ($4.3 billion) penalty “because there are areas that require legal clarification from the European Court of Justice,” the EU’s top court.

Google previously appealed to a lower tribunal, which had slightly lowered the original 4.34 billion-euro penalty in a decision largely siding with the European Commission. It’s the largest-ever antitrust fine issued by the commission, the 27-nation bloc’s top competition watchdog.

In its 2018 decision, the commission found that the dominance of Google’s Android resulted in less competition and consumer choice. The U.S. tech giant had argued that free and open-source Android resulted in cheaper phones and spurred competition with its chief rival, Apple. Android is the most popular mobile operating system, beating Apple’s iOS.

“Android has created more choice for everyone, not less, and supports thousands of successful businesses in Europe and around the world,” Google said Thursday.

The fine was one of three blockbuster antitrust penalties that the commission hit Google with between 2017 and 2019, highlighting the bloc’s early role in cracking down on tech giants.

Google also is appealing its first EU antitrust penalty, a 2.4 billion-euro fine for unfairly favoring its Google Shopping comparison service, to the Court of Justice, which can only rule on points of law.

It’s appealing the third penalty, a 1.49 billion-euro fine for abusing its dominance in online search ads, to the EU court’s lower tribunal.

    Maxwell Frost

Amidst a sea of depressing, enraging, mildly promising, and other election results tonight, one victory has proven to be truly inspiring. And it took place in Florida.

In a state that has voted overwhelmingly in support of goons like Governor Ron DeSantis, Democrat Maxwell Frost won Florida’s 10th Congressional District—based mostly in Orlando—by a landslide, capturing 58.8% of the vote (at time of posting) against his nearest competitor, Republican Calvin Wimbish, on 39.7%.

Frost’s victory is notable for a number of reasons. You’ll see him hailed in most reports as the “first member of Generation Z elected to Congress, since he is just 25 years old, and don’t get me wrong, that’s an incredible achievement. But we’re here because Frost is, at least on record, also the first Kingdom Hearts fan elected to Congress. Here he is back in 2017:

Normally digging up a politician’s old tweets is a source in either boredom or frustration, since—given their advanced age—many Congressmen and Senators in the US were already image-conscious politicians by the time they began using the platform.

But Frost was just 20 when he wrote that Tweet. Just a regular guy, doing what we all used to do on The Hellsite, namely sharing little snippets of the people and things that we love.

Frost ran because the incumbent, Democratic Val Demings, vacated the seat to try to (unsuccessfully) challenge Marco Rubio in the Senate elections. In a more recent Tweet, he said “WE WON!!!! History was made tonight. We made history for Floridians, for Gen Z, and for everyone who believes we deserve a better future. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to represent my home in the United States Congress.”

Just so you don’t think he went straight from being a guy posting about Kingdom Hearts on Twitter to Congress, as NPR reports, Frost has been an activist for almost a decade now, and had previously “served as the national organizing director for March For Our Lives, a group that advocates for gun control policy.

  • The Critical Role of System Integration In Digital Transformation

The Critical Role of System Integration In Digital Transformation

    [ad_1]

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

In recent years, businesses of all sizes have increasingly relied on digital tools and technologies. There has been a rapid increase in adopting the newest trends to enhance and efficiency and improve processes and outputs.

In their quest to go digital, many organizations are forced to give up their old ways and welcome contemporary processes and systems with open arms. Some traditions are hard to let go of. Thus, business owners and employees alike might be apprehensive of the changes that come with digital transformation.

How can your business make sure to switch it up without losing existing data, systems, processes, techniques or people? An integrated system will address all your troubles and concerns.

    What system integration means

Every business, at any point in time, often has a combination of manual and automated online and offline systems to manage each aspect of its operation. To reap maximal benefits from global technological advancements, businesses must fully embrace the digital age. However, going digital can take time.

Many organizations that started early on took each process or department through digitalization. Others wanted to undergo digital transformation in one go — a tiresome, high-risk and expensive process. To take a cautious, calculated approach to digital transformation, there is one integral part of the process you cannot ignore — system integration.

System integration refers to collecting the various separate modules, processes and data systems and having them work in a unified manner. It enables organizations to streamline operations, strengthen collaboration between departments, and improve operational efficiency. This process not only facilitates the introduction of new IT systems to existing digital environments but can also help combine modern systems with dated legacy ones.

Related: Why You Should Speed Up Your Digital Transformation During the Crisis

    The benefits of system integration

In recent years, the global system integration market has been growing at impressive rates, and Grandview Research predicts an upward trend for the next few years. Let us explore why system integration is vital to the digital transformation journey and how it can benefit your business.

    1. Lower costs

Installing and maintaining multiple disparate subsystems can be expensive. The costs can quickly rack up to staggering amounts over the years. With an integrated modern system, your organization will no longer have to host and manage multiple systems and their individual data stores. A consolidated system will reduce redundancy and repetition and allow valuable resources to be reallocated toward more critical tasks or areas of operation.

Additionally, without a proper system integration strategy, the thought of undergoing digital transformation can be daunting. Introducing a highly complex state-of-the-art digital system to be implemented across the entire organization at once will incur significant financial damage, not to mention the intimidation and doubt it will cast over the workforce. System integration can help assuage the impact of digital transformation by putting existing systems to their best use and only introducing new elements where necessary.

    2. Improved efficiencies

Working with many systems — some of which may be entirely isolated — negatively impacts performances and subsequent results. There can be a sizable gap in communication and collaboration. Isolated systems may have to be manually updated with new incoming data. And let us not forget the hassle you would have to go through every time some important information needed to be retrieved. A lot of time would be wasted on interdepartmental communication for the simplest exchange of data, further delaying time-critical resolutions. Even minor errors could cause catastrophic outcomes.

With a consolidated digital platform, you will get many benefits in terms of higher efficiency.

Firstly, system integration will facilitate knowledge transfer by providing a high level of connectivity between teams and departments. This leads us to the second benefit — massive time-saving. Introducing a digital system would open up new possibilities for automating mundane and critical tasks. Urgent decisions could be made in real time. Each member of your organization would then be able to focus their efforts and energies on more important things, boosting the team’s collective productivity and efficiency.

    3. New insights

With disparate subsystems all handling different data stores, there is a certain gap that can sometimes be difficult or impossible to bridge. Businesses could miss out on a goldmine of valuable insights and reports that high volumes of data could potentially provide. Consequently, they likely make pivotal decisions based on incomplete or inaccurate data.

With an integrated system, all the relevant people can access any data they need at any time. This data can then be used to analyze employee, department or overall business performance. The insights you gain into your business’s operations can then be used to make any changes needed to improve outputs and outcomes.

    Wrapping up

System integration is an essential part of the digital transformation process, a phase without which businesses will not be able to experience the true advantages of going digital. Thus, your end goal should be not just introducing newer, more innovative IT systems in the workplace but also making room for any adjustments necessary for a truly digital, smooth and unified experience.
