A 38-year-old woman was found dead in a backyard trash can in Costa Mesa on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

A man was arrested in Glendale on suspicion of murder. Police said he was a friend of the woman.

The victim, whose identity was not released pending notification of her family, was found around 2:27 p.m. at a home in the 1900 block of Maple Avenue, according to a news release.

As Costa Mesa police conducted an investigation Tuesday, the home was cordoned off with crime scene tape. In interviews, neighbors described the area as safe and the incident as shocking.

“Never a problem, never had any type of violence or anything like that, any disturbance,” said a neighbor who gave only her first name, Sherri.

    No further details were available.

Anyone who may have additional information is asked to call Det. K. Moore at (714) 754-4986.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies shot and fatally wounded a man who fired at them outside a Rancho Cucamonga shopping center, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the shopping center at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a man armed with a gun, according to authorities.

Deputies found and then exchanged gunfire with the suspect outside a Walgreens near the intersection of Carnelian and 19th streets, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told KABC.

It’s unclear if the suspect was wounded during that exchange, but he then ran into a nearby Sprouts Farmers Market, authorities said.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Department said deputies shot the man, but did not provide any further details as to where and when he was struck, or whether the suspect fired any shots into or from inside the market.

Video footage from OnScene.TV showed a shattered glass door at the Sprouts and a sheriff’s deputy being taken from the scene in the back of an ambulance. It was not immediately clear how the deputy was injured.

The suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but later died from his injuries, the sheriff’s department told KABC.

The shooting is still under investigation.

A fast-moving fire near Lake Elsinore on Thursday has forced the evacuation of dozens of homes and consumed more than 130 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The Macy fire broke out in vegetation near Macy and Orange streets around 5:40 p.m. An evacuation order was issued for dozens of homes west of Grand Avenue as the fire spread.

People watch the flames on a nearby hillside in Lake Elsinore.

    (OnScene.TV)

A searchable map provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection showed the structures affected by the order. An evacuation center was set up at Elsinore High School, at 21800 Canyon Drive in Wildomar, for those displaced from their homes, Cal Fire said.

By 9 p.m. Thursday, 200 firefighters were battling a blaze that was 0% contained. The fire closed Highway 74 from Grand Avenue to the Orange County line, and Grand Avenue from Machado Street to Maiden Lane.

Video from OnScene.TV showed flames roaring from a hillside within a short distance from homes. Planes and helicopters dropped fire retardant.

“We have a massive fire right here,” resident Michelle Mattson said as flames ran along the hillside behind her. “It broke this ridge right here, and there’s houses right on the other side of it.”

Video shows tow truck plow through parked cars, flip over in fiery downtown L.A. crash

    [ad_1]

A tow truck driver who police allege was under the influence crashed into multiple vehicles and then overturned the truck early Friday morning, just blocks from the closed stretch of the 10 Freeway.

The crash, which occurred around 2:40 a.m. on Griffith Avenue between the Fashion District and Historic South Central, caused significant damage to vehicles and ended with the tow truck upside-down and in flames in the middle of the street.

The tow truck collided with a vehicle going in the opposite direction, said Annie Moran, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.

“The tow truck overturned and that’s when both vehicles crashed into multiple vehicles,” she said, noting that at least 13 parked vehicles were hit.

In video captured by a security camera and provided to OnScene, the truck can be seen careening out of control and crashing into four parked cars.

Other videos from OnScene show Los Angeles Police Department officers, Los Angeles Fire Department officials and residents inspecting the scene.

“The driver was transported to a local hospital and he will be arrested for DUI but he’s still in the hospital,” Moran said. Two other people were also hospitalized with “minor visible injuries.”
