Veeko Creates Streaming After-School Platform to Combat Lack of Education Resources in the United States

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    Dec 15, 2021

The United States is facing a crisis in the area of afterschool education. Recent polling suggests that over 90% of parents believe that afterschool programs are essential for their child’s education, but for most parents, high-quality afterschool programs are out of reach. According to a recent study, more than 24.6 million children in the U.S. are unable to join after-school programs.

    Understanding the problem

Among the reasons listed by parents for not sending their children to afterschool programs, these highlight the difficulty that parents face when trying to give their kids a quality education:

Cost: A majority of parents cited cost of afterschool programs as being largest barrier that stood between them and enrolling their child in a program. With some courses coming in at $3,600 per year, the cost is impossible to manage.

Availability: More than 42% of parents reported that afterschool programs were not available in their community, indicating that nearly half the children in this country are unable to attend afterschool programs because there aren’t enough of them.

Transportation: Parents said transportation played a role in their inability to send their kids to afterschool programs. With some parents working two jobs, there isn’t time to get their kids out of the house. For other families in larger cities, parents worry about safe transport because they don’t have access to a car.

Quality: Another factor stopping parents from putting their children into afterschool programs is quality. Most afterschool programs are more daycare than education, with kids only playing around instead of learning something that’s truly beneficial.

    Becoming the Solution

  • Austin Pets Alive! | Human of the Month – Patty Alexander

Austin Pets Alive! | Human of the Month – Patty Alexander

    [ad_1]

    Jun 29, 2021

    Drum Roll Please! Da-dum-da-dum-da-dum-da-dum-dum.

It’s time to kick off Austin Pets Alive’s Human of the Month sponsored by RightWorks’ social impact program, KindWorks. Our relationship with this generous company began when they made a donation during Winter Storm Uri. When we reached out to thank their team, we were thrilled that they wanted to begin an ongoing relationship. KindWorks was born soon after the conversation and is allowing us the opportunity to highlight our amazing humans and the work they put in at APA!. It is our pleasure to launch this feature by introducing you to Patty Alexander, our PASS Program Manager, and Online Adoption Manager.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at APA! — innovative thinking, a spectrum of emotions, and of course, the long hours that go into providing lifesaving care and attention to each and every animal that walks through our doors (or lands in our inboxes or social media channels in Patty’s case!).

Patty has been with APA! for nearly eleven years and has been an extraordinary asset to our team. As the PASS Program Manager and Online Adoptions Manager, Patty is responsible for supporting individuals who are struggling with keeping their pet in their home, and either helping to determine a solution or helping to find a new loving home all while supporting the mixture of emotions that can surface during these delicate times. These roles require a lot of time and attention to detail, as well as challenges along the way, but APA! always cuts a new path. This is Patty’s favorite part of being a member of the APA! family because as she puts it so well, “we are creative, outside the box, problem-solving, innovative team.” Being a part of helping people find solutions is one of the best parts of Patty’s workday.

One of Patty’s prized memories at APA! was when a good samaritan reached out asking for help when he found a dog at his construction site, who had been shot. She helped raise $5,000 via crowdsourcing in order to help save the dog. The construction worker drove the dog to find help and unfortunately lost his job because of his action. Not only did Patty fundraise to provide this sweet pup a lifeline, but she also helped this hardworking, heroic man find a new job. Patty encompasses our APA! motto — helping people help pets.

You may be thinking, “Wow! Patty must be in the office 24/7!” Well, sort of… After becoming obsessed with blogs by people who sold everything to travel the world, Patty followed suit in 2014. She sold her belongings, loaded up her four-legged friends, and set off to work remotely from different locations. Talk about an adventure!

We are so thrilled to choose Patty for our RightWorks’ KindWorks Human of APA! sponsorship. Our team and all our dear animals at APA! thank you for your hard work and constant support!

Be sure to follow along throughout the rest of the year to learn more about some of the amazing people supporting the animals of APA!.

  • Adams County Sheriff Sells Over $1.1 Million in First-Ever Online Sale

Adams County Sheriff Sells Over $1.1 Million in First-Ever Online Sale

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Jun 3, 2021

Adams County, Pennsylvania, hosted its first-ever online sheriff sale on May 21 with online auction site Bid4Assets.com. By moving the sale online, the sheriff’s office increased participation by about 50% when compared to previous live auctions. More importantly, Adams County’s sheriff’s sales have traditionally sold about 30% of its property to third-party bidders, but sold 70% in their first online sale. In total, the online sale generated over $1.1 million in third-party sales while streamlining the process for bidders and county staff and eliminating COVID-19 concerns that arise from live auctions.

“The increased audience and competitive bidding in our sheriff’s sale contributed to higher excess proceeds for the defendants and fewer bank-owned properties, which was a wonderful benefit to see as part of this transition,” said James W. Muller, Adams County Sheriff.

Sheriff’s sales are public auctions resulting from a lender filing a foreclosure action, often as a result of a default on a mortgage from a bank. If the property sells to a third-party buyer for over the debt amount, the former owner will see their debt eliminated and can even claim excess proceeds. If the bidding does not go high enough, the lender will typically take the property and it becomes REO, or bank-owned property. Six counties in the commonwealth have taken their sheriff’s sales online since COVID-19 hit, and all have reported increased sales.

Winning bids in this sale ranged for $31,200 for a single-family residence in East Berlin to $277,834 for a Gettysburg townhome on Baltimore Street. The Baltimore Street property sold for over $96,000 more than the debt balance, so the previous owner may claim those funds. Over 40% of the properties that sold third-party had a surplus that the prior owners can claim.

“We’re very pleased to see that Adams County’s first online sheriff’s sale was such a success,” said Bid4Assets CEO Jesse Loomis. “Other sheriffs in the commonwealth and throughout the U.S. are following Adams County’s example and are in the process of transitioning online. With the numerous benefits and the fact our services come at no cost to counties, we are confident this format will become the new normal well beyond COVID-19.”

Adams County’s next sheriff’s sale is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16 on Bid4Assets. A free Bid4Assets account is required to participate in all auctions hosted on the website. Users can visit the Bid4Assets website and register an account by going to www.bid4assets.com/registration.

Leaders From Top Nursing Schools Predict More Online Learning, Simulations in 2021

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 12, 2020

RegisteredNursing.org discussed the future of nursing education with department chairs, leaders, and faculty from top nursing schools and they tend to agree – students can expect more online learning and high-tech virtual simulations from nursing school in 2021.

Nursing education leaders from renowned schools such as Johns Hopkins University, Baylor University, and University of San Francisco, as well as from regional schools such as Lakeland Community College and Augusta Technical College, all weighed in when asked, “In light of the changes that nursing students have seen in 2020, what will nursing school look like in 2021?”

With the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting nursing schools, nursing students have had to adjust quickly. Online coursework and canceled in-person clinical rotations have become the norm for 2020. With the ongoing nursing shortage and the critical need for nurses, information on how schools will adapt to effectively educate nurses in 2021 is a topic on many students’ minds.

“Nursing students should be prepared for a technology-heavy learning experience. There are a number of amazing virtual interactive patient simulation products available to nursing education institutions now, and educators have been working hard to integrate those tools into nursing curricula,” says Sarah M. Billings-Berg, DC, DNP, RN, CNE – Associate Dean of Nursing and Central Region Site Director at Vermont Tech and one of the experts featured in the piece.

Bid4Assets to Host Forfeited Land Sale for Beaufort County

    [ad_1]

The online surplus sale will begin March 18, with the county considering all offers

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 19, 2019

Bid4Assets.com will host an online sale for forfeited land with a sealed bid format on behalf of the Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office. By moving online, the county is exposing this sale to a wider range of buyers in order to return more distressed properties to the tax rolls. Funds generated from the sale will support essential county services. Beaufort County previously held a sale on Bid4Assets in October 2018.

“This sale will be different from our last one on Bid4Assets because of the sealed bid format,” said Kimberley Chesney, Beaufort County Tax Collector, “The county will be reviewing all offers in the hopes of returning as many properties as possible to revenue-producing status. As with before, this sale gives a new group of buyers the opportunity to own land in one of the South’s fastest-growing counties.”

Online bidding will begin on March 18 at 10 a.m. ET with 114 parcels available. Auctions will close at staggered times on March 20 beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The sale will primarily feature vacant land properties, with the county’s highest asking price being $8,877. The format for the online auction will be sealed bid, meaning bidders will be able to submit any amount for consideration at or above $1. All sales will require approval from the Forfeited Land Commission before they can be finalized.

“We’re excited to be hosting another online sale for Beaufort County,” said Jesse Loomis, CEO of Bid4Assets. “The sealed bid format creates tremendous opportunity for potential buyers to purchase property below market price. Bidders will have the ability to submit their best offer and Bid4Assets’ system will identify the highest bid for each property. We expect this format to draw plenty of new bidders and ultimately create more property owners in Beaufort County.”

Bidders must register a free Bid4Assets account and fund a $785 deposit before they are able to participate in the sale. Deposits are due by March 12. View sale details, including a list of available properties, at Bid4Assets.com/Beaufort.

Bid4Assets to Host First-Ever Online Auction for Tax-Defaulted Properties for Sacramento County

    [ad_1]

Online auction scheduled for Feb. 25, with properties starting as low as $900

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 15, 2019

For the first time ever, online auction site Bid4Assets will host a tax-defaulted properties sale on behalf of the Sacramento County Tax Collector’s Office. By moving online, the county is exposing this sale to a wider range of buyers in order to return more distressed properties to the tax rolls. Funds generated from the sale support essential county services, which can face shortfalls when taxes go unpaid.

“Transitioning our tax sale process online is a natural step for Sacramento County,” said Carlos Valencia, Sacramento County assistant tax collector. “Exposing tax-defaulted properties to a nationwide database of bidders gives the county a significantly better chance of returning them to productive use. Many other California counties have found success with Bid4Assets, so their platform seems like the ideal way to achieve this.”

Bidding opens online on Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. PT with 67 parcels available. Auctions will close at staggering times on Feb. 27 beginning at 3 p.m. PT.

“Bid4Assets has a long history of streamlining tax sales in California and we are thrilled to be doing the same for Sacramento County,” said Jesse Loomis, CEO of Bid4Assets. “Our platform brings a tremendous number of bidders from across the country to a group of properties that were previously only available at a live auction. Online sales are cheaper and easier, return more properties to the tax rolls and generally bring higher prices. The proceeds support essential county services.”

Bidders must register a free Bid4Assets account and fund a $5,035 deposit before they are able to participate in the sale and deposits are due by Feb.20. View the auction, including a list of the properties, at bid4assets.com/sacramento.

Bid4Assets.com to Host Los Angeles County’s Largest-Ever Online Tax-Defaulted Property Auction

    [ad_1]

Sale will open Aug. 4 with over 1,000 properties starting at $1,426

    Press Release

    updated: Jul 27, 2018

Bid4Assets.com will host Los Angeles County’s tax-defaulted properties sale, auctioning 1,011 tax-defaulted properties online this August 2018. The online auction will include a mix of vacant lots, including land zoned residential, commercial and acreage. All properties will open at a low starting bid of $1,426, except for three items with multiple parcels sold in blocks. No reserve price will be set, so the properties will sell to the highest bidder, regardless of price.

Following an annual in-person tax-defaulted property auction in October 2017 and follow-up online auction in December 2017, Los Angeles County is once again hosting an online sale through auction website Bid4Assets.com. The August 2018 online sale will expose properties to a wider range of buyers in order to return more distressed properties to the tax rolls. Funds generated support essential county services, which can face shortfalls when taxes go unpaid.

“We’re honored to serve Los Angeles County in conducting their public auction for tax-defaulted properties,” says Jesse Loomis, CEO of Bid4Assets. “The hope is always that the auction will prompt property owners to pay their taxes and redeem the properties. When that doesn’t happen, we auction the property and find a new buyer. If there aren’t enough bidders in the local market, we bring a database of hundreds of thousands of nationwide real estate bidders to the auction.”

Auctions will open Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) and begin closing at staggered times between 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) and 5:50 p.m. ET (2:50 p.m. PT) on Aug. 7. A free Bid4Assets account is required to participate in the sale. Bidders must submit a $5,035 deposit to qualify for bidding. Deposits are due by July 31. You can view a list of properties available in the sale at www.bid4assets.com/losangeles.

The company has been developing a completely new internet shopping experience. “We have filed provisional patents incorporating about a dozen revolutionary new ways of engaging in e-commerce. We believe that some of our methods will change the world’s culture forever, and how everyone does a certain type of shopping.”

Pedroso states that Giftapart will provide customers will all types of products. “We intend on providing most items, if not all, consumers want and need as soon as possible,” said Pedroso. “The company is in process of establishing business relationships with top retailers that sell and ship goods within the United States. We will only sell products that are sold by established, ethical retailers. Consumers can be assured that they will only get authentic products from the brands they trust and the stores they know.

“The retailers that have had the opportunity to see what we’re doing are very excited and really love the unique retailer toolbox we provide them,” commented Pedroso. “The way that retailers can connect with their loyal customers is uniquely special and efficient at Giftapart. Retailers are loving that. And interested, loyal consumers will equally appreciate that level of connection with their favorite retailers.

“We wanted to reward our initial Giftapart fans so we created this giveaway,” said Pedroso. According to the giveaway rules, anyone can participate by following Giftapart on its social media sites and being in current follower status on the launch date. “We’ll select the 11 winners on launch day and reach out to them the same day. We want them to start using and shopping on Giftapart right away!”

Although the rules of the giveaway limit entry to adults, Pedroso says they’ll do whatever they can to accommodate everyone. “We understand that some minors may not know or read the rules fully, therefore still follow our pages with the impression that they’ve qualified. If possible, we’ll make an effort to get their parental consent to still award them their giveaway. Our company’s philosophy is to always do the right thing, even if it means taking the extra mile. We’ll always take care of our customers first.”

In fact, since almost the start of the project, Pedroso has had the words “CUSTOMER #1” on the whiteboard in the company’s conference room. Kevyn Jaremko, director of front-end software development, has been with the company since its first line of code and said, “I guess as developers we were thinking about ways to make the platform more profitable, but Filipe [Pedroso] would remind us and always say, ‘We’re focused on creating an awesome platform for the customers’ use and satisfaction.’ He would always say ‘the customer is number one,’ so after saying it a couple times, he wrote it in all caps on the whiteboard. It’s still there, he never erased it.”

“Oh yeah, Filipe [Pedroso] is obsessed with the customer,” added Deepak Kumar, also with the company since the onset and leads the back-end software development. Kumar further stated, “There’s no doubt that Filipe [Pedroso] has kept his focus. He has demanded that we leave no detail undone. Every detail of the project is revolved around what the customer will enjoy, need and want. But you know what, I guess that’s what it takes. We’re all so excited to get the platform in people’s hands so they can start enjoying all the great features. This project was not built for ease of development. It was built for ease of use.”

Priya Balakrishnan, front-end coder at the company, said, “The goal is to give the users a fun and exciting shopping experience and to that effect, we are working towards a design that is aesthetically pleasing while being simple and seamless to use. We want to bring the fun of retail shopping to the online experience.”

Giftapart is developing its platform to be released in desktop and mobile form. “Creating a truly all-encompassing platform has been the goal, and that, of course, would include allowing people to use it in all form factors. So whether you want to use Giftapart on your desktop, notebook, tablet, Android or iPhone, we got you covered. You’re going to love shopping and doing so much more on Giftapart,” said Pedroso.

Heading the mobile development team is Robert Dudas Jr. and he says, “We have been able to pack a tremendous amount of functionality into a simple-to-use user interface on the mobile phone. Filipe [Pedroso] has insisted that the user experience be similar across all platforms, and we have been able to maintain enough uniformity that once you know how to use the desktop version, going to the mobile app will be a breeze and vice versa. I’m very pleased with the successes we’ve had.”
