    Negotiations have begun over Pennsylvania online poker shared liquidity. And if you don’t know exactly what that is and why you should be excited, allow us a moment to explain. You see, poker is a game where you need lots of players. But regulated online poker is usually restricted to state boundaries, which limits the number of people who can play. But this is not the case with shared liquidity.

    Basically, when states have an agreement for web based poker player shared liquidity, the number of players increases in ways that are good for players and the businesses running the games. These agreements allow states to pool their respective players together by ignoring state borders and forming a large, multi-state pool of players. Such an agreement already exists between Nevada, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

    Now, it’s time for Pennsylvania online poker to take the plunge and join the existing compact. At least, that’s what the state Gaming Control Board is thinking about at the request of their governor. In fact, the state is the only regulated internet poker market not currently participating in the agreement. Talk about some serious FOMO! However, there is already legislation sitting in a house committee that would accomplish this. So what’s the deal?

    “In order to remain competitive in the gambling sector, I am expressing my strong support for Pennsylvania to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement…” said the Governor. Pennsylvania should capitalize on our status as a leader in legalized gambling, and join this compact, which would bring in additional revenue for the Commonwealth and allow players more gaming options.” he added.

    The Committee on Gaming Oversight is currently considering the bill, HB 2078, which has wide spread bipartisan support. However, making any Pennsylvania online poker agreement a reality may be tricky this year, as there is precious little time left in the session. After all, the politicians need extra time off from all the work they have not doing anything else useful during the first nine and a half months of the year.

BetMGM Poker offers both the King of Poker Progressive Bounty Shoot Out and a $150,000 Online Hybrid Championship where players will start online and finish live at Borgata.

    The Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship – a $2,700 buy-in and a $2,000,000 guarantee and the highly anticipated live stream of the final table. The Borgata Spring Poker Open main event schedule also includes a Ladies’ Championship and a Senior’s Championship.     The 2024 WSOP has released it’s schedule of events for this summer. The richest, most prestigious and longest-running poker series announced its full daily events during the tournament, following the success of the record-breaking event in 2023. The 55th edition of the series heads back to the Las Vegas Strip at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas.

    The2024 WSOP will run from May 28th through July 17th this year, offering nearly 700 tables, many new events and, of course, the highly coveted Main Event Bracelet. Speaking of, the Main Event will begin on July 3rd, with four starting flights running until 6 July. Late registration will be available on July 7th and 8th through Level 7, or around 4:40 p.m. on Day 2 of each day.

    The championship Final Table will occur July 16th and 17th at Horseshoe Las Vegas. Last year’s World Series of Poker Main Event drew a record 10,043 entrants and crowned Daniel Weinman as its champion. Hailing from Atlanta, Ga., Weinman became the first American to win the WSOP Main Event since 2018 taking home $12.1 million, the largest Main Event first-prize payout in series history.

    The opening week for the 2024 WSOP contains more action-packed events, with the Champions Freezeout and No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout. There will also be a Seniors High Roller No-Limit Hold’em Event, a Mixed No-Limit Hold’em event, and a Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot with buy-in for this event will be $1,500 with a starting stack of 25,000. Other categories worth noting are the Independence Day Celebration No-Limit Hold’em Event a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em During Main Event, the $3,000 Mid-Stakes Championship No-Limit Hold’em.

    Poker fans from around the world can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Las Vegas Strip while reveling in the history linked to Horseshoe Las Vegas. Horseshoe owns a special place in the legacy of the World Series of Poker, as the first-ever WSOP was held at Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas in 1970. Last summer, the WSOP unveiled the Hall of Fame Poker Room at Horseshoe Las Vegas, featuring 20 poker tables with non-stop action and a permanent Poker Hall of Fame exhibit.

    The 2024 WSOP Final Table, TV set and staging will again reside inside Horseshoe Las Vegas, and the main cage will be located at Paris Las Vegas. The two buildings are connected and share a parking garage, which can be accessed from Paris Drive. Weekend marquee events will have adjusted starting flights during the 2024 WSOP. The events will now have either three starting flights Friday through Sunday or four starting flights Thursday through Sunday. This change results in popular events such as Monster Stack, Millionaire Maker, and Colossus now having three starting flights.

    PokerStars has officially confirmed its decision to cease operations in Norway by the end of the month. The global poker platform has sent email notifications to players in the country informing them that, as of Thursday, October 26, PokerStars’ online services will no longer be accessible in Norway.

    In a statement to Poker Industry PRO, a representative for the company acknowledged the forthcoming withdrawal from the Norwegian market, attributing the decision to cease operations to “commercial reasons.”

    “For commercial reasons, we have decided to stop offering our products to residents of Norway from 26 October 2023 and have informed our customers accordingly,” affirmed Flutter Entertainment’s flagship poker room in its communication with PRO.

    Despite the withdrawal, PokerStars told its Norwegian customers that access to their accounts would be maintained, guaranteeing them flexibility to withdraw their funds at their convenience.

    PokerStars is the world’s largest real-money online poker room and part of gambling giant Flutter. The poker brand now joins competitors bet365, Kindred, ComeOn, and Betsson in withdrawing from the Norwegian market. 

    Poker operators exiting Norway

    Back in September, following years of legal conflicts, Lottstift, Norway’s Gambling Authority, declared that all unlicensed operators must discontinue their illegal offerings or otherwise face severe financial consequences. 

    At the time, the Norwegian regulator made no specific mention of PokerStars’ market activity. Instead, the threat was made directly against 15 other websites, primarily operated by Kindred, Betsson, and ComeOn.

    According to Lottstift, new rulings by the Storting (Parliament) had granted the authority new powers to combat non-regulated gambling. These include the abilities to block IP access to illegal websites and to demand that Norwegian banks and financial services terminate monetary transactions with unlicensed operators.  

    Before the enforcement measures, Lottstift had been involved in a number of lawsuits against European operators who disputed the authority’s rules, arguing that these rules favored the monopoly practices of Norsk Tipping and Rikstoto. Operators further said the regulations were in breach of EU competition laws. 

    September’s announcement was deemed by Lottstift Director Henrik Nordal as a victory for Norway, effectively ending unlicensed operators’ activities in the country, as they will no longer be able to target Norwegian consumers.
