Police in Manhattan shot and killed an allegedly armed man who menaced people with a gun and then fired at officers who confronted him on Thursday night.

Law enforcement sources said the police-involved shooting happened just before 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 13 along Madison Avenue between East 95th and East 96th Streets on the Upper East Side, within the confines of the 19th Precinct.

According to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, officers were called to the location after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a man pointing a firearm at people, including threatening to open fire inside a hospital. The incident first unfolded 20 minutes earlier inside of an apartment building located at 1590 Madison Avenue.

“He first begins speaking to another man in the elevator, and then, seemingly without provocation, pulls out a firearm and points it directly at the male. He keeps the firearm pointed at the male until the elevator gets to the first floor of the building, where he exits the elevator and the building,” Chief Rivera said.

Rivera said the gunman then headed to a deli at 1600 Madison Avenue and made his way behind the store counter where he pointed a gun at a worker there and made a chilling admission.

“Call 911, I’m going down to the hospital to shoot it up,” he allegedly said.

The gunman then reportedly made off with the employee’s cellphone before making his way to Mount Sini Hospital and entering the medical facility.

“He exits back out onto the sidewalk and is seen placing a firearm on the ground next to a tree. He then re-enters Mount Sinai Hospital, where he encounters an off-duty member of the service who is working a paid detail security post at the hospital. The individual is acting disorderly and tells the NYPD member that he has a gun,” Rivera revealed. “While the off-duty member of the NYPD is attempting to escort him out of the hospital, the individual grabs the NYPD member from behind, and a brief struggle ensues. He then exits the hospital and retrieves the firearm that he had placed on the ground.”

Shortly after the police arrived at the scene, they encountered the man, who matched the description provided by witnesses, on 96 Street and Madison Avenue.

When the officers from the 19th Precinct exited their vehicle and approached him, authorities say the man displayed a gun and fired at least one round at the officers near a crowd of people who had just exited a bus. The cops then returned fire. The man was struck multiple times about his body.

Sources said cops loaded the wounded man into the back of a marked police cruiser and rushed to nearby Mount Sinai Hospital. The man was later pronounced dead. While his identity has yet to be revealed, sources reported that he was 20 years old.

The officers involved in the incident were also medically evaluated; no injuries were reported.

Nearby residents reported hearing at least six shots fired during the incident.

“It was fireworks, and then all of a sudden, you realized that wasn’t fireworks. We saw the police sirens, and I yanked [my son] by the back of his shirt away from the window, and ran behind a hard wall,” said one resident, Jonathan Trichter, who with his son, Tully, spoke about the incident with amNewYork.

“I was inside in my apartment, and we ducked and took cover in the hallway” after hearing the shots, Tully Trichter said.

Bullets flew steps away from Brooklyn’s Woodhull Hospital on Friday afternoon in a shooting that left three people — including two teenagers — wounded, police said.

Police said the gunfire erupted near the medical center, at the corner of Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Broadway, just after 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.

Officers from the 79th Precinct responded to the location after receiving a 911 call about a man shot at the location. When they arrived at the scene, they found one victim, a 33-year-old man, shot in his left thigh.

EMS rushed the victim to nearby Woodhull Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Moments later, police learned that two other victims of the shooting, both teenagers, had walked into Woodhull seeking treatment.

Cops said one victim, a 15-year-old girl, suffered a graze wound to her right foot, while the other, a 16-year-old boy, sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his hip. Both were admitted and also listed in stable condition, law enforcement sources said.

As of Friday evening, police were still on the hunt for the suspect(s) involved in the shooting. It is not yet known what led up to the gunfire, or if the three victims were deliberately targeted.

  • Brooklyn body mystery: Person of interest fought cops after arrest for rotting corpse in trash | amNewYork

A person of interest wanted for dumping a rotting body in a Brooklyn garbage bin attacked cops and attempted to grab their guns when they came to arrest him Sunday morning.

    FreedomNewsTV

A person of interest wanted for dumping a rotting body in a Brooklyn garbage bin attacked cops and attempted to grab their guns when they came to arrest him Sunday morning.

According to police sources, cops received a tip that the suspect in the bizarre caper — 38-year-old Christopher Moss — was spotted walking on Beverly Road near Nostrand Avenue in Little Caribbean at around 12:35 a.m. on Oct. 19 when they tried to move in and make an arrest.

However, sources familiar with the investigation said, Moss allegedly became enraged and headbutted one arresting officer while attempting to reach for another cop’s gun and taser. Police were able to wrestle him to the ground and place him in custody.

Moss had been wanted for questioning after a decomposing body was discovered at around 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 17 outside of 569 East 21st St. in Flatbush. Originally, published reports indicated the body had been chopped up, but sources said it turned out that the remains, belonging to an unidentified man, had actually become deeply decomposed while folded in the fetal position.

A report from ABC7 revealed that local residents had recently overheard Moss and his partner allegedly arguing with one another in the days leading up to the grim discovery.

“As soon as that door opened, that whiff would just smack you in the face. And we would have the door closed but like you’d be on the other side of the apartment from the entrance and you would still smell it. It definitely was the body,” a neighbor told the outlet.

Police have yet to determine how the man lost his life, and the death is not yet deemed a homicide.

Moss has thus far been charged with concealment of a human corpse. He was also slapped with assault on a police officer, attempted criminal possession of weapon, resisting arrest, and instructing government administration.

Additional charges are pending the results of the ongoing investigation.

Franklin Batallas, 44, of Westchester Avenue, stands accused of murdering his lover — Anthonella Contreras Linarez, 30 — in an attack that occurred near the City Island Circle, at Park Drive and City Island Road, in Pelham Bay Park at about 8:10 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The boyfriend of a Bronx woman who was stabbed to death in a park on Wednesday night has been charged with her murder after detectives determined his claims that robbers had killed her were a hoax.

Franklin Batallas, 44, of Westchester Avenue, stands accused of murdering his lover — Anthonella Contreras Linarez, 30 — in an attack that occurred near the City Island Circle, at Park Drive and City Island Road, in Pelham Bay Park at about 8:10 p.m. on Sept. 17.

Batallas initially told police that two unidentified men on mopeds had attempted to rob and then brutally stabbed Linarez as she sat in their car alone. The suspect claimed that he had stopped his vehicle and gone behind a bush to relieve himself when the incident occurred.

The suspect further claimed that the robbers also slashed him in the arm when he allegedly ran to her aid, police initially reported.

Batallas later drove up to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle with the wounded Linarez, who had been stabbed multiple times about her face, neck and body. Despite the medical staff’s efforts, she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The New Rochelle Police Department reported the incident to the NYPD’s 45th Precinct, which launched a murder investigation. Batallas was taken into custody and questioned by detectives, during which his story apparently fell apart.

Detectives escorted Batallas out of the 45th Precinct stationhouse in Throggs Neck on Friday afternoon en route to Bronx Criminal Court for arraignment on charges of murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Judge Ralph Wolf ordered Batallas held without bail and to return to court on Sept. 24.

  • Midtown rape attempt: Manhattan suspect busted for sick assault on woman at nail salon | amNewYork

The suspect in a Sept. 1, 2025 attempted rape at a Midtown nail salon.

    NYPD

Police arrested a 35-year-old Manhattanville man on Saturday for the attempted rape of a woman inside a Midtown business on Labor Day.

Joseph Wichard was charged with attempted rape and sex abuse on Sept. 6 at the 26th Precinct, the NYPD said Monday.

His arrest followed a manhunt launched last week for the perpetrator behind the attack inside a nail salon near the corner of West 36th Street and Broadway in Manhattan at 6 p.m. on Sept. 1.

The 34-year-old victim told police last week that she did not know the perpetrator who sexually assaulted her.

Police sources say the suspect allegedly lunged at a 34-year-old employee and grabbed her by the arm before pulling her into a back room. There, according to sources, Wichard allegedly threw her to the ground and launched his attack, biting her and attempting to rip off her pants and underwear.

During the assault, sources say the victim was able to grab a nearby object and fight off her attacker.

EMS took the victim to a local area hospital for treatment following the Sept. 1 attack. The case was reported to the Midtown South Precinct.
