    Responsibilities:
    • Manage calendar, including marketing initiatives, team meetings and reviews, and coordinating logistics (i.e. catering for meetings).
    • Own general clerical duties including filing, copying/printing, email correspondence, handling incoming/outgoing mail and packages, ordering supplies etc.
    • Handle all incoming/outgoing press samples, which includes tracking down samples to be returned.
    • Maintain setup of the showroom – coordinate housekeeping services, work with the building super for maintenance requests, maintain plants and florals as necessary.
    • Facilitate shipping needs to domestic and international partners.
    • Book flights, hotels, car services, and meal reservations for the team’s business travel, and arrange detailed itineraries.
    • Receive incoming communication and summarize and/or distribute contents to appropriate team members.
    • Manage and/or assist on ad hoc special projects as they come up.

    Requirements:
    • Minimum of 3 years experience providing administrative support to executives. Administrative assistant degree is a plus!
    • Based in New York and must be able to work in person in Soho office (5 days a week)
    • Advanced Mac computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Adobe Photoshop and InDesign experience is a plus!
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Exceptional organizational skills, follow through and attention to detail
    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously

    Job Description

    Meet the 82-year-old Princeton priest hand cycling to his 86th marathon

    PRINCETON, Wis. (WMTV) – At 82-years-young Father Dale Grubba of Princeton, is readying to handcycle the New York City Marathon.

    In training mode, you can find Father Grubba seven days a week hand cycling down the stretch of Canal Street in Princeton. “Even though I don’t live on this street, I’m a resident of this street in many ways,” laughed Grubba.

    Grubba is an athlete in every sense of the word, dating back 42 years when he signed up to run his first marathon on a whim.

    “And after about six or seven weeks you forget the pain of it so you think oh I could do another one, and that led to another one…” Grubba said. “It just got in my blood and you associate with all sorts of people and that becomes the thing I think that attracts me back time and again.”

    With a firm grip on competitive racing, Father Grubba is now closing in on 86 marathons, 22 of which have been completed from the driving seat of a handcycle.

    It’s a shift in competitive racing Grubba made after a knee replacement and back injury. “I wore the bottom half of my body out and now I’m wearing the top half out and when I do that then it’s time to go back to God,” Grubba said.

    From conducting Mass on Sundays to cycling 26.2 miles time and time again Father Grubba attributes his success to always saying ‘yes.’

    “That’s a lesson that I often tell young people too,” Grubba started. “Never turn down a challenge because it can lead to some of the most fruitful things you’ll ever do in life.”

    Sunday, Nov. 6 Father Grubba is taking his sermon to the streets of New York City, wheeling to his way to yet another photo finish.

    “Some people might consider what I do extreme but at the same time I celebrated my 82nd birthday and I’m in good shape, and I just think back, yes I’ve done these marathons and I’ve run shorter races and long races but at the same time I’ve been able to maintain my health too,” Grubba said. “And that’s a real good feeling, real good.”

    Father Grubba says he’s taking life in stride, one cycle a a time. “I have always looked at the positive, focused on the positive and as a result I’ve just lived my dream.”

    NEW YORK (AP) — A complex of giant tents built on an island opened Wednesday as New York City’s latest temporary shelter for an influx of international migrants being bused into the city by southern border states.

    The humanitarian relief center on Randall’s Island is intended to be a temporary waystation for single, adult men — many from Venezuela — who have been arriving several times per week on buses chartered predominantly from Texas.

    Spartan and utilitarian, the tents include cots for up to 500 people, laundry facilities, a dining hall and phones for residents to make international calls.

    The city’s plan is to bring single men to the facility after they come into the main Manhattan bus terminal and to house them there for a period of days while determining next steps, officials said. The first arrivals were brought to the center on Wednesday.

    “We needed a different type of operation that gave us the time and space to welcome people, provide them a warm meal, shower, a place to sleep, to understand their medical needs, to really then work with them to figure out what their next step is going to be,” said Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol.

    The white, plastic-walled tents also include a space where migrants can meet with case workers to determine their next steps, as well as a recreational room with televisions, video games and board games. They are heated, since overnight autumn temperatures can fall into the 40s and 30s. In the sleeping area, row upon row of green cots stretch out, each one with a pillow, some sheets and a blanket, and some towels. The city said it will be able to double the sleeping capacity of the tents, if needed.

    Similar types of tents have been used as temporary shelters in other places, like the southern U.S. border. In recent years, both the Trump and Biden administrations have come under criticism for conditions in some tents, including overcrowding.

    In recent months, New York City has seen an unexpected increase in migrants seeking asylum in the United States who have been sent to the city from other states including Texas and Arizona. The influx has put a strain on the city’s shelter system, leading officials to look for other places to house people and propose the temporary tent facilities. Migrant families with children are being housed in a hotel.

    New York City’s homeless shelter system is now bursting with more than 63,300 residents. While there are fewer families in the shelters now than there were in the years before the pandemic, the number of single men has soared since the spring, largely because of the influx of migrants. There were more than 20,000 single adults in the shelter system Monday, up 23% from the nightly average in July.

    Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency earlier this month, calling the increased demand being put on the city “not sustainable.”

    The tents were initially planned for a far-off corner of the Bronx, but were moved after concerns about flooding and criticism from immigrant advocates over the remote location. Iscol said the Randall’s Island location was safe from flooding.

    Advocates remain concerned even with the new location, questioning what conditions migrants will be kept in, and whether the support they get will be adequate.

    Kathryn Kliff, an attorney with The Legal Aid Society, said there were questions about what kind of oversight would be maintained at the center, which is not part of the city’s homeless shelter system and so does not fall under the same court-ordered oversight some of the shelters do.

    And there were still concerns about why migrants were in tents at all, instead of buildings like hotels.

    Murad Awawdeh, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, said in a statement that opening the tent center was “a stain on our city’s rich history of welcoming immigrants and morally reprehensible. … To continue ignoring the calls from advocates and other city officials to utilize alternative and more appropriate housing options, and instead begin implementing this dangerous plan, Mayor Adams has compromised New York City’s status as a beacon of hope.”

    Randall’s Island is located in the waters between the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. Five bridges connect it to the three boroughs, and the city’s subway system is a bus ride or walk away.

    It’s already put to a variety of uses — there are numerous athletic fields, as well as Icahn Stadium, a track and field facility. There’s also a psychiatric hospital and a fire academy for the Fire Department of New York.

    Man accused of shooting 10 on subway train refuses to come to court

    NEW YORK (WABC) — Subway shooting suspect Frank James refused to come to federal court for his 1 p.m. scheduled status conference Wednesday, prompting the judge to order the United States Marshals Service to forcibly bring him in.

    “Upon the defendant’s refusal to appear before the Court when requested in connection with the above-captioned case, it is hereby: ORDERED that the United States Marshals Service, their agents, and/or designees, use all necessary force to produce the above-named defendant,” Judge William Kuntz said.

    James allegedly shot 10 people on a subway train in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, April 13 before he slipped away on a different train and became the subject of a manhunt.

    He has pleaded not guilty to charges of conducting a violent attack against a mass transportation system.

    On Wednesday, a judge refused a defense request to delay the trial.

    It comes as Eyewitness News was along for the ride Tuesday night as New York City’s top cop went underground in an effort to keep riders safe on the subway.

    Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell toured the subway station where a teen was assaulted over the weekend and rode with New Yorkers who all have an opinion.

    It’s been a rough two weeks in the transit system, with three murders — two in the subway and one on a bus.

    The NYPD, which already flooded transit with thousands of cops since the beginning of the year, surged nearly a thousand more, focusing on 15 train lines in 20 stations citywide.

    “Obviously we’re concerned about the safety of New Yorkers,” Sewell said. “This subway has to be safe. I remember taking the subway myself to go to school. The people who go to school, the people who work in the city, and this is the lifeblood, it has to be safe.”

    RIDGEWOOD, Queens (WABC) — Four firefighters were among nine people who were injured in a fire at an apartment building in Queens early Saturday.

    Flames broke out inside the three-story building on Gates Avenue in Ridgewood just before 5:30 a.m.

    The fire spread to an adjoining building before firefighters were finally able to extinguish the flames.

    Four civilians and four firefighters were taken to the hospital while a fifth civilian refused medical attention.

    They all suffered minor injuries.

    Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.

    MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) — Three men were stabbed, one fatally, in separate attacks in the New York City subway system within an eight-hour span.

    A 38-year-old Bronx man was getting off a northbound No. 4 train as it arrived at the 176th St. station just before 9 p.m. Thursday when he was stabbed multiple times in the back and chest by a suspect who came up behind him in what seemed to police to be an unprovoked attack.

    The victim collapsed on the platform, was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died, becoming the seventh person to be killed in the NYC transit system this year, and the second fatal subway stabbing in less than a week.

    He was later identified as Charles Moore.

    The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion, about 5’11, and was last seen wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and Nike sneakers.

    Earlier Thursday, at 5:15 p.m., a 45-year-old man was slashed in the face by a man on a moped who followed him into a Brooklyn subway station in East New York.

    Just after 1 p.m., a 59-year-old man was stabbed in the back at a Harlem subway station. The victim was waiting for a train at the 125th St station at St Nicholas Avenue when he got into an argument with a man he didn’t know, possibly after a harmless bump on the platform.

    The other man pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper back. He was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in stable condition

    The suspect, last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue jacket and blue tinted glasses, ran off.

    New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said the NYPD had “to do more” after three people were stabbed, one fatally, in three separate attacks on the subway within an 8-hour span.

    “We’ve surged thousands of officers into the subway system,” Sewell said Friday during a news conference. “We have to deter and prevent this activity.”

    Police said it was too soon to talk motive for the seemingly random attacks. None of the suspects is in custody.

    “There was no contact in that train car between the victim and assailant,” Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said of the fatal stabbing in the Bronx. “Looking at the video, it looks as though the attacker goes after that individual specifically. We don’t know what the motive is.”

    The department stressed the number of transit assaults and arrests have increased, but it is working on getting the illegal cutting weapons off the streets.

    Police have made more than 600 arrests for illegal cutting instruments on the subway so far this year.

    Transit Chief Jason Wilcox said that’s a 95% increase from last year.

    “The events of yesterday, very disturbing,” Wilcox said. “We are going to be out there with the riders and for the riders, keeping them safe.”

    Eyewitness News spoke with concerned riders overnight.

    “The most I can do different is basically be a little more vigilant than usual, but I’m not surprised,” said one.

    “I typically feel OK at this particular subway, first time I heard something this tragic at this subway,” said another.

    “Crime is pretty high right now, so I don’t think it’s an isolated situation,” said a third commuter.

    QUEENS, New York (WABC) — A man is fed up over a broken pipe that has repeatedly released hot steam into his apartment in Queens since Saturday.

    A steam bath at a spa can be luxurious, but when hot steam fills your entire apartment day after day it is a nightmare.

    “The first time I thought it was a fire. I’m running around looking. And I ran to the kitchen. Nothing was on. Then I see all this steam smoke coming up clouding the whole room and my bedroom,” tenant Rondu Allah said.

    Allah says he has woken up to intense steam on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings.

    He has asthma and worries about the air he’s breathing.

    On Tuesday, Allah put plastic over his belongings and moved them away from the heater.

    He was promised a plumber would finally come Wednesday to fix the pipe under his floor.

    “If they have to chop up all this floor, where am I going to move all my furniture to?” Allah said.

    Even worse, the 68-year-old tenant says it’s not just steam that’s coming from the broken pipe.

    “The steam has been off since this morning but the air is still heavy and humid and the floor is still warm to the touch,” he said.

    Allah pays $1,700 a month for his one-bedroom on Lefferts Blvd in Queens.

    He’s lived there for more than a decade and says this happened several years ago.

    They tore up his floor then and were supposed to have fixed the problem.

    Except here he is, living in a hot bath again.

    “The super broke this tv. They said they’re going to get a new one,” Allah said.

    He has called the super and the fire department.

    Every time, they turn off the heat but when the temperature dips below 55, it goes right back on.

    The management company assures Eyewitness News that help is coming in the morning.

    BROOKLYN (WABC) — Two suspects are now in custody in connection with the robbery of a bishop in Brooklyn.

    Bishop Lamor Whitehead was held up at gunpoint during a live stream of his Sunday morning sermon in July. Whitehead was on stage at Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries when men wearing dark outfits with hoods entered the room.

    On Wednesday, police announced the arrests of 23-year-old Juwan Anderson and 23-year-old Say-Quan Pollack on federal robbery conspiracy and firearm charges.

    Bishop Whitehead told reporters he is relieved police have made an arrest and he is looking forward to moving on with his life.

    “I’m hoping that this clears a lot of things up with my name as far as, you know, the world believing that I’m a villain instead of a victim, and it hurts,” he said.

    The bishop had previously said the men targeted him and his wife and took a total of $1 million in jewelry.

    “As alleged, the defendants brought guns into a place of worship, stealing from two members of the clergy, and terrifying the congregation in the process,” stated United States Attorney Breon Peace.

    The brazenness of the robbery was shocking to those in Whitehead’s church service and watching the livestream.

    “A very, very violent robbery crew that we saw,” said NYPD Inspector Nicholas Fiore. “With no regard to anybody else, in the middle of the mass, holding a child at gunpoint, that’s a pretty rough robbery.”

    And that’s why the NYPD says it became a federal case under the Hobbs Act.

    “We get a 10 year minimum on a robbery with a firearm,” Fiore said.

    The case drew attention to the fact that Whitehead had a million dollars worth of jewelry to steal — something he defended. He says he has no connection to the two suspects.

    Among the questions he has for them, if they wanted the jewelry, why not target him while he was wearing the jewelry out in public — instead choosing to traumatize his family.

    “Why would you go into the church and do what you’ve done?” Whitehead said. “Because you know we don’t have any weapons? Because you know we have peace, you know are coming to serve our Jesus? Right? And that’s just wrong?”

    The two suspects pleaded not guilty.

    A third man is being sought in connection to the robbery and the million dollars worth of jewelry has not been recovered.

     As cannabis industry leaders gather in Washington, DC, to lobby the nation’s congressmen to relax federal laws prohibiting the sale and use of cannabis, medical marijuana and hemp, one group proposes a novel tactic to bypass the NY State legislature and legalize adult-use marijuana by a direct vote of the people in New York. Restrict & Regulate in NY State 2019 (RRNY) is holding a private briefing to explain the periodic mandatory vote in NY State on whether to hold a constitutional convention, or “ConCon.”

    Not to be confused with a federal constitutional convention, New York is one of 15 states whose state constitutions require a periodic popular vote on holding a state constitutional convention. Thus on November 7, 2017, a sleepy off-year election, New Yorkers will go to the polls to find, buried at the bottom of the ballot, the question “Shall there be a convention to revise the constitution and amend the same?” If they say “no,” the process will end. If they say “yes,” a two-year process will be triggered, culminating in a popular vote on changes to the NY state constitution proposed by a convention to be held in April 2019.

    “Our government, both in Washington and in Albany, is dysfunctional and unpopular, and in NY it is corrupt as well. The electoral college elected Trump but the people elected Clinton, and many inside and outside of our movement believe that establishment insiders rigged the primary system to deny Bernie Sanders an opportunity to run for President. The level of anger is palpable. The vote this November 7 in New York will be an early bellwether of what will come in 2018.”

    The last time NY voted yes on this question was 1967. Voters rejected this call in 1977 and 1997, but RRNY believes 2017 will be different. “The political and technological landscape is completely different today than it was 20 years ago,” said Josh Alper, one of the organizers of the briefing. “We live in an age of cellphones and social media, live-streaming and fake news. In 1997, the internet was only just taking off. In 1967, cellphones were barely imaginable.

    “Our government, both in Washington and in Albany, is dysfunctional and unpopular, and in NY it is corrupt as well. The electoral college elected Trump but the people elected Clinton, and many inside and outside of our movement believe that establishment insiders rigged the primary system to deny Bernie Sanders an opportunity to run for President. The level of anger is palpable. The vote this November 7 in New York will be an early bellwether of what will come in 2018.”

    “At the same time, use of cannabis has become mainstream. 56% of Americans say the use of marijuana is socially acceptable. Support for medical marijuana and hemp is through the roof. Our industry ran ballot initiatives in 9 states in 2016 and won 89% of them, and we bring millennials out to vote, largely because they find it shameful to keep people locked up and destroy their lives for doing something or possessing something that they see as harmless and commonplace. RRNY believes it is crystal clear that New Yorkers will turn out in much higher numbers than usual and they will vote to override the NY legislature on a number of issues, including cannabis, marijuana and hemp, by voting to have a state constitutional convention on November 7.”

    The briefing will be led by Dr. Peter Galie, renowned scholar and author on the NY constitution, and followed by Ben Tulchin, pollster for Bernie Sanders in 2016. Dr. Galie will speak on the NYS Constitution, its history, the history of this mandatory ballot question in NY State and the results of previous NYS ConCons, while Tulchin will talk about how to shape campaign strategy using data-driven polling and social media.
