  • The Eagles Are Out, But Philly High School Talent Is Very Much Still In. – Philadelphia Sports Nation

The Eagles may not be playing in the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs — but as always wherever American sport is being played — you can almost be assured that some Philly connection exists. And when is came to Sunday’s Bears and Rams matchup on Sunday — Philly High School talent was on full display during the 20–17 Los Angeles win in OT.

One year ago — as Saquon Barkley ran to pay-dirt at Lincoln Financial Field in the swirling snow — some Los Angeles players my not have been used to the blizzard-like conditions. But Linebacker Omar Speights was not one of them.

Speights — a Philadelphia native — attended both Imhotep Charter and Northeast High School before transferring to Crescent Valley High School in Oregon and attended Oregon State. With less than four minutes left in the 4th quarter — Speights even knocked down a pass to force a Bears turnover on 4th and Goal.

On the Chicago sideline — Philadelphia’s talent was plentiful. Bears wide reciver DJ Moore is also a Philadelphia native — and like Speights attended Imhotep Charter. He would eventually lead the Panthers to the school’s first ever State Championship Game appearance. The former first round pick and All-Pro is in his eighth NFL season and was seeking his first Super Bowl appearance this year.

The running back who preceded Saquon Barkley on the Eagles is still alive in the hunt for an NFC Championship. St. Joe’s Prep graduate D’Andre Swift did not return to the Eagles after 1,000 yards in 2023. His teammate and fellow St. Joe’s Prep Graduate, Olamide Zaccheaus, also did not return after the 2023 campaign.

The Eagles may have to wait another year to compete for an NFC Championship once again — but one thing is for sure. The 2026 NFC Championship Game will have Philadelphia talent on display.

    Just as it should be.

  • An Eagles Dream Team? Start By Giving Me Malcolm Jenkins and Bucko Kilroy Any Day – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

The Eagles are one of the most electric teams to watch in the NFL , and on Friday, in front of a Lincoln Financial Field crowd encouraged to dress in honor of Philadelphia’s alternate uniforms of black helmets, pants, and jerseys ,  the Eagles will honor Malcolm Jenkins and Bucko Kilroy by inducting them into the Eagles Hall of Fame.

The Eagles have had some great safeties over the decades. Brian Dawkins pulverized opposing platers in the early 2000s. Andre Waters and Wes Hopkins flattened anyone daring to come across the middle in the early 1990s.

Bill Bradley was one of the few bright spots for the franchise in the early 1970s. And Andrew Mukuba and Reed Blankenship are well on their way to make a significant impact of their own during the best time in the long history of the Eagles.

Malcolm Jenkins is at the top of that list as well.

When he arrived in Philadelphia in 2014 during the Chip Kelly Era , he didn’t just bring hard hits. Malcolm Jenkins was a leader. The culmination of his efforts as a player and mentor was a 2018 Super Bowl Championship in which he pancaked New England Patriots receiver Brandin Cooks,  knocking him out of the game.

    Bucko Kilroy

Bucko Kilroy became an Eagle in a period when the franchise was anything but stellar. The Eagles had become so bad that the first-ever franchise quarterback actually made a career move, becoming an FBI field agent rather than returning to compete with the Eagles. The team even lost their first ever game to New York at the Polo Grounds 56–0.

Bucko was born here (Port Richmond) and even attended St. Anne’s Grade School and eventually Northeast Catholic High School. When he joined the Eagles as an UDFA in 1945, Kilroy entered the NFL the very same year that Pittsburgh and Philadelphia joined forces due to the war effort to play one season as the Steagles.

Bucko Kilroy would play over a decade in Philadelphia — and even set an NFL record with one hundred and forty-three consecutive games. Behind his Pro Bowl play  was fellow Hall of Famer and running back Steve Van Buren, who ran to a total of 7 NFL rushing titles. Between 1953 and 1955,  Kilroy was a Pro Bowler each year.

So, when it comes to assembling my Eagles Dream Team?

Give me Jenkins and Kilroy not only on this day, but also on all days. On any day.

2 arrested in connection to SEPTA bus stop shooting that injured 8 teens: Sources

    [ad_1]

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two people have been arrested in connection to last week’s mass shooting at a SEPTA bus stop in the Burholme section of Philadelphia, sources tell Action News.

Those sources also said a weapon has been recovered after gunfire that left eight Northeast High School students wounded.

Police have not released any more information about those in custody.

Philadelphia officials, including the mayor, police commissioner and the D.A., will hold a 4:30 p.m. news conference with the latest on the investigation. They will be joined by officials from the FBI, the ATF and the U.S. Marshals.

You can watch that live on 6abc, 6abc.com, the 6abc mobile app and the 6abc streaming TV app.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at Cottman and Rising Sun avenues.

The injured students range between the ages of 15 and 17. One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, remains in critical condition after being shot nine times. Police say he was the intended target.

Surveillance video released Wednesday night shows three shooters exit a blue Hyundai and open fire. Police urged tipsters to help identify the three shooters and the car’s driver.

That evening in Olney, police found two vehicles they believe are connected to the shooters, including the getaway car.

    Both had been stolen.

Police have said all along they are working to see if the mass shooting is connected to a deadly shooting of an Imhotep Charter High School student, 17-year-old Dayemen Taylor.

Taylor was shot a week ago Monday while waiting at a SEPTA bus stop in Ogontz. Two other students and two bus passengers were also injured.

Students return to class after shootings

Northeast High School students returned to class Monday for the first time since the shooting.

The school switched to virtual learning late last week in the wake of Wednesday afternoon’s violence.

Imhotep students also returned to attend in person classes on Monday. It was their first time back in person since the killing of their classmate last Monday.

“I’m not shocked because things like this have happened in the past. The only thing that really shocked me is that I happen to be a victim of it,” said one of the victims, who did not want to be identified.

He said he was waiting for his bus ride home on Wednesday when he heard more than 30 gunshots. And without hesitation, he ran in the opposite direction.

He was shot in the upper back.

“It’s like a scene out of a movie, an action movie. Everything happened so fast. You have to be on your toes consistently if you want to make it out of a situation like that,” he said. “As I was running, I felt a burning sensation in my back, but I ignored it because of adrenaline. But as I stopped, it just felt like I might’ve got shot.”
