    Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a 17-year-old was shot and killed early Saturday in north Charlotte.

    Officers were called at 12:26 a.m. to the 1600 block of Old Plank Road for a medical call and found a girl with a gunshot wound, according to a CMPD news release. She then was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

    Police on Sunday identified the victim as Amari Cooper.

    The young woman was a student at West Charlotte High School, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported on Sunday, adding that the school will have a remote learning day on Monday.

    Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene, police said, as well as other emergency responders. CMPD has not announced any arrests or suspect information. The investigation is ongoing, and police said additional details will be released as they become available.

  • MEDIC responds to stabbing call at McDonald’s in north Charlotte

    A stabbing was reported Tuesday at lunchtime at the McDonald’s off West Sugar Creek Road near Interstate 85 in north Charlotte.

    Officers were also searching an area near North Graham Street and I-85.

    Paramedics said they responded to a stabbing call.

  • CMPD investigating overnight north Charlotte homicide

    The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide after two people were shot in north Charlotte early Sunday morning.

    Police responded to the scene of the shooting at the 200 block of Atando Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.

    There, police found two people had been shot.

    MEDIC pronounced one of the victims deceased at the scene. The other victim was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

    The investigation is active and ongoing. Police have asked that anyone with information call 704-334-1600.

    No additional details have been made available.
