Nick Carter’s lawyers deny ‘outrageous’ sex assault claims in docuseries – National | Globalnews.ca

NOTE: The following article contains disturbing content. Please read at your own discretion.

Former Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has once more denied any and all wrongdoing following the airing of a new docuseries, called Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, that again publicized accusations of sexual assault against the singer.

The four-part docuseries, produced by Investigation Discovery, aired on Monday and Tuesday. The series details allegations from three women — Ashley Repp, Melissa Schuman Henschel and Shannon “Shay” Ruth — who have all filed civil lawsuits against Carter, 44.

The alleged assaults took place between 2001 and 2003, with two of the women claiming they were underage at the time. The lawsuits were filed between December 2022 and August 2023.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Carter’s lawyers vehemently denied any crime ever took place.

“These are exactly the same outrageous claims that led us to sue this gang of conspirators,” Carter’s attorney, Dale Hayes, Jr., wrote. “Those cases are working their way through the legal system now, and, based on both the initial court rulings and the overwhelming evidence, we have every belief that we will prevail and hold them accountable for spreading these falsehoods.”

In February 2023, Carter countersued his first two accusers and called them “opportunists” taking advantage of the #MeToo movement to “defame and vilify” him for financial gain. The third lawsuit, launched by Repp, had yet to be filed. Nick has since filed a second countersuit against her.

Carter was not featured in the docuseries, though Fallen Idols producer Michael Hirschorn told THR that wasn’t for lack of trying. He maintains the production stayed in contact with Carter and provided him ample opportunity to speak on camera, which he refused.

Hirschorn said the docuseries heavily features legal documents to assert that there is an established “paper trail of charges and counter-charges” surrounding Carter.

Carter’s brother, Aaron, died in 2022 at the age of 34.

As well as covering the sexual assault allegations against Carter, Fallen Angels also discusses the strained and dramatic relationship between the famous siblings, as well as alleged rifts in their extended family.

All four episodes of Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter are currently available to stream on Max.

    The allegations against Nick Carter

The first claims against Nick Carter came from Henschel, who is a former pop singer with the girl group Dream. She publicly accused Carter of sexual assault in 2017 but did not file her lawsuit in Los Angeles until last year, after California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act was passed in 2022.

Henschel said Carter, then 22, forced her to perform oral sex when she was 18. She alleged she did not consent, and told him such, but was made to perform the sex act “against her will.”

Ruth filed her lawsuit in 2022 and said Carter raped her when she was 17 years old. Ruth said he invited her onto a tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Wash., where she alleged Carter gave her alcohol. She said he forced her to perform oral sex before he raped her. Ruth alleges that she contracted human papillomavirus (HPV) from Carter.

Repp was last to make a legal claim and filed her lawsuit in Clark County, Nev., last year. She has alleged Carter raped her when she was 15 years old.

She said Carter sexually assaulted her multiple times in 2003, when he was 22 and 23 years old. In her lawsuit, she alleged he raped her in a yacht cabin in Florida in August 2003 while she was an intoxicated minor, then sexually assaulted her on a bus days later. Repp said she was also raped by Carter in a separate instance onboard a yacht, and that he allowed other men to watch.

Repp also told the court she contracted HPV from Nick.

All of the women’s allegations were reiterated across the four episodes of Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. Nick has denied all of the claims.

    The three lawsuits are ongoing.

Nick Carter’s Response to Paris Hilton’s Infamous Bruises Photo: ‘I’ll Tell You One Thing…’

With new sexual assault allegations of the Backstreet Boys member coming to light, people are pointing out Nick Carter‘s involvement with Paris Hilton‘s bruises. The allegations are a crucial part of the documentary series Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. Paris Hilton isn’t involved in the documentary, but their relationship is examined once more by the general public.

Paris Hilton dated Nick Carter for seven months from 2003 to July 2004. In Carter’s 2013 memoir Facing the Music And Living To Talk About It, he talked negatively about their relationship, “Paris was the worst person in the world for me to hook up with. [She] fed my worst impulses as far as partying.”

In 2004, paparazzi photos of Paris Hilton with bruises emerged and people immediately accused Nick Carter of abusing the “Stars Are Blind” artist.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE (7233) for confidential support.

Did Nick Carter give Paris Hilton bruises?

Nick Carter denied that he gave Paris Hilton the bruises. “I’ll tell you one thing: I didn’t touch her,” the singer told People in 2004. “I’m not that kind of guy. I would never do that.”

Hilton declined to press charges related to her injuries. “I’m doing okay,” she said. “I’m just so happy to be single right now.”

At the time, sources alleged to the New York Post that Carter was the one who gave Hilton the bruises. “Nick wanted to leave, Paris didn’t,” said a Hilton pal, adding, “Nick forced Paris to leave, he made her get in a cab with him.”

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 10: Aaron Carter is seen arriving to the Celebrity Boxing Face Off between Lamar Odom & Aaron Carter on April 10, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Friends told the outlet that Hilton was “scared to death” and added that Carter “has major anger-management issues . . . We have seen bruises on her before and asked her about them.”

In her 2020 documentary This is Paris, Hilton brought up the situation saying that five men verbally and physically assaulted her, leading to the infamous bruises photo. “We just got in an argument,” she recalled of the incident. “I was trying to leave his house and he just got really mad and was just grabbing me and pulling me. I don’t really remember most of it because I’ve had worse stuff happen.”

She continued, “I’ve been strangled, phones thrown at me, computers, and I accepted it because I almost thought it was so normal. Like, he loves me so much that he’s going this crazy. I just wanted so bad that I was willing to accept being hit or yelled at or screamed at or strangled…a lot of things.”

  • Coroner: Aaron Carter drowned in tub from drug, inhalant

Coroner: Aaron Carter drowned in tub from drug, inhalant

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Singer and rapper Aaron Carter accidentally drowned in his bathtub as a result of sedatives he’d taken and gas used in spray cleaners he had inhaled, a coroner’s report said Tuesday.

Carter, the younger brother of the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, was found submerged and dead at age 34 in the bathtub of his home in Lancaster, California, on Nov. 5, the autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner said.

Sheriff’s deputies had been the last people to see Carter alive when they visited his house at 2 a.m. on Nov. 4 for a welfare check after he had been seen and heard “huffing” an inhalant on an Instagram live video, according to a police report included in the autopsy findings. He asked the deputies to leave, and they did.

The autopsy found that the sedative alprazolam, often sold under the brand name Xanax, was found in his system, as was the compressed gas difluoroethane, which the report says is “a gas commonly used as a propellant in air spray cleaners,” which “can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled.”

The two substances incapacitated him in the tub, and caused the drowning, the report said.

Later in the evening, after deputies checked on Carter, he missed an appointment with a drug counselor, the police report said.

The following day, a person whom authorities called a house sitter at the time but whom the report identifies in quotes as a “housekeeper” came to Carter’s house to offer him coffee. She let herself in when she got no response and heard his dogs barking, according to the report.

The woman found him submerged, wearing a T-shirt and necklace, in a Jacuzzi-style tub with the jets running, and called 911. The operator told her to pull him out and perform CPR, according to the report. Paramedics immediately declared him dead when they arrived.

Investigators found several prescription bottles and multiple scattered cans of an electronic duster that he used for inhaling.

The report referred to Carter as “a celebrity with a known history of substance abuse” who had “multiple interactions with local police relating to the substance abuse.” It cited a particular history of inhalant abuse, and a recent relapse.

Carter began performing as a child in the 1990s, opening for acts including his brother’s boy band and Britney Spears. His career peak came in 2000 with the triple-platinum album “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” which produced hit singles including the title song and “I Want Candy.”

He also acted on television shows including “Lizzie McGuire,” and appeared on the family reality show “House of Carters” and “Dancing With the Stars.”

Carter for years had been open about his substance abuse struggles, detailing his issues with inhalants in a 2019 episode of the talk show “The Doctors.” He also said in the interview that he was taking medications for acute anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Nick Carter said after his younger brother’s death that “I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”

  • Nick Carter files countersuit against ‘opportunist’ sexual assault accusers – National | Globalnews.ca

Nick Carter files countersuit against ‘opportunist’ sexual assault accusers – National | Globalnews.ca

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has filed a countersuit against two women who have accused the singer of sexually assaulting them more than 15 years ago.

In the countersuit, filed on Thursday in Nevada, Carter, 43, describes his accusers as “opportunists” who are taking advantage of the #MeToo movement to “defame and vilify” him for financial gain.

Carter is seeking US$2.3 million in damages — the amount the singer claims he lost in missed business opportunities as a result of a December 2022 lawsuit filed by a co-defendant who accused Carter of rape.

In the original lawsuit, Shannon (Shay) Ruth said Carter invited her onto a tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Wash., when she was 17 years old. She claims Carter gave her alcohol and forced her to perform oral sex before he raped her. Ruth also alleges that she contracted HPV from Carter.

    Story continues below advertisement

During a December press conference, Ruth said Carter should not be excused for his alleged crime because he is a celebrity. At the time, Carter denied the accusations.

“Carter will not allow himself to be smeared in this way,” the singer’s new countersuit reads. “Protecting one’s reputation and name by calling a liar a liar is not victim blaming or bullying. It is simply telling the truth.”

In an email statement to Billboard, Ruth’s lawyer Mike Boskovich, said, “Why should Nick Carter be believed with his long history of abusing females. A jury will weigh the evidence and decide.”

Melissa Schuman, a former member of the girl group Dream, is also named in Carter’s countersuit. In 2017, Schuman accused Carter of sexually assaulting her in 2003 when the pair collaborated on a film project. Schuman’s father, Jerome, is also named in the counterclaim.

Carter claims the Schumans “groomed and coached” Ruth to believe she was raped by Carter.

His countersuit claims Ruth, who lives with autism and cerebral palsy, “was a vulnerable and highly impressionable individual, craving attention and desperate to fit in.”

Carter’s complaints against Ruth and the Schumans also allege they illegally conspired against him and used his late brother Aaron Carter as a tool to legitimize their allegations. The younger Carter brother, who died in November, had publicly supported Ruth and Schuman’s claims, but later withdrew his endorsement.

“The Schumans’ timing couldn’t have been better since, at the time, Aaron was addicted to drugs, battling serious mental health issues, and engaged in a misguided campaign of retaliation against Carter and other members of his family who were worried about Aaron and pushing him to seek professional help,” the complaint reads.

“In the months leading up to his recent death, Aaron not only apologized to Carter for his involvement in the counter-defendants’ smear campaign, but publicly stated that Schuman and Ruth were liars.”

The owner of the Twitter account @ElaineModo is also listed as a defendant in the countersuit. Carter, through his lawyers, claimed the account is likely controlled by Ruth and the Schumans and is used to defame him online.

When news of Ruth’s lawsuit broke in December, ABC decided it would no longer air the Backstreet Boys’ Christmas special. Carter’s lawsuit claims he also lost paid contracts with MeUndies, VRBO and Roblox.

Nick Carter accused of raping 17-year-old during 2001 Backstreet Boys tour – National | Globalnews.ca

NOTE: The following article contains disturbing content. Please read at your own discretion.

A new lawsuit has accused Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter of raping a 17-year-old girl on a tour bus during the boy band’s 2001 Black & Blue concert tour.

The legal filing, which was first reported by TMZ, comes from Shannon “Shay” Ruth, who claims Carter, now 42, invited her onto a tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Wash., when she was a minor.

Ruth alleges Carter offered her what he called “VIP juice” — which she says tasted alcoholic — before he led her to a bathroom and forced her to perform oral sex. In the lawsuit, Ruth said she was a virgin and cried throughout.

She claims Carter then “pushed” her onto a bed and raped her as she “begged him to stop.”

Through his own lawyer, Carter vehemently denied Ruth’s allegations in a statement. He said the claims are “not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue.”

“Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick — and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time,” wrote Carter’s lawyer Michael Holtz.

“No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer — there is nothing to this claim whatsoever, which we have no doubt the courts will quickly realize.”

Ruth, who lives with autism and cerebral palsy, said Carter called her a “r——d little bi—h” when she threatened to report him in 2001.

At a press conference on Thursday, Ruth claimed “Carter tried to scare me into silence.” Through tears, Ruth said Carter told her that “he’d turn people against me because he was Nick Carter and had the power to wreck my life.”

“The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame, and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me,” Ruth said. “Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe nothing has affected me more … than what Nick Carter did to me.”

    Story continues below advertisement

At the press conference, Ruth said Carter should not be excused for his alleged crime because he is a celebrity.

The lawsuit also includes allegations from three other women, who are all identified only as Jane Doe.

The allegations from the Jane Does are similar to Ruth’s; Jane Doe 1 alleges Carter abused her in 2003. Jane Doe 3 claims Carter abused her at a Florida house party in 2006. Both Ruth and Jane Doe 2 (who was 15 at the time) allege they contracted HPV from Carter after being assaulted.

The civil lawsuit is seeking unspecified monetary damages and punitive damages for past and future pain and suffering.

The allegations in the new lawsuit are not the first against Carter. In 2017, the Backstreet Boy was accused of sexually assaulting Melissa Schuman, a former member of girl group Dream.

Carter also denied Schuman’s accusation at the time and said he was “shocked” because “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.”

On Thursday, ABC announced it will no longer air the Backstreet Boys’ Christmas special as a result of the new allegations against Carter. The special was filmed this month in Los Angeles and was set to air on Dec. 14.

It’s unclear if the Christmas special will be aired elsewhere.

  • Nick Carter remembers his ‘baby brother’ Aaron Carter

Nick Carter remembers his ‘baby brother’ Aaron Carter

NEW YORK (AP) — The day after 34-year-old singer Aaron Carter was found dead at his home in Southern California, Nick Carter, the Backstreet Boys member, remembered his younger brother, saying that despite “a complicated relationship,” his love for him “never ever faded.”

In a posting Sunday on Instagram with photos of the two through the years, Nick Carter said his heart was broken after the death of the youngest of five Carter siblings, whom he called his “baby brother.”

“My heart has been broken today,” wrote Carter. “Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”

Deputies responded around 11 a.m. Saturday following reports of a medical emergency at Carter’s home in Lancaster, California. Authorities said a house sitter found a man in the bathtub in the home and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Carter had struggled with substance abuse and mental health. In 2017, he attended rehab and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana charges. In 2019, Carter said on an episode of the talk show “The Doctors” that he was taking medication for acute anxiety, manic depression and multiple personality disorder. That same year, Nick and Angel, Aaron’s twin sister, said they filed a restraining order against Aaron.

In September, Carter said he went into rehab for the fifth time in the hopes of regaining custody of his young son, Prince, with his fiancé Melanie Martin. At the time, Prince was under the court-ordered care of Martin’s mother.

“Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here,” Nick Carter wrote in the post. “I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz, now you get a chance to finally have some peace you could never find here on earth. God, Please take care of my baby brother.”

In 2012, their sister, Leslie Carter, died after falling in the shower in 2012 at the age of 25. Authorities said she had suffered an overdose from prescription medication. Carter once said he felt his family partly blamed him for her death.

Carter, a singer, rapper and actor, opened for the Backstreet Boys tour in 1997, the same year his gold-selling debut self-titled album was released. He reached triple-platinum status with his sophomore album, 2000′s “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” which produced hit singles including the title song and “I Want Candy.”

Carter’s acting credits included the television show “Lizzie McGuire” and an appearance on “Dancing With the Stars.” He starred alongside his brother, Nick, and their siblings B.J., Leslie and Angel Carter on the E! unscripted series “House of Carters” in 2006.

Hilary Duff, who starred in “Lizzie McGuire,” recalled Carter as having an “effervescent” charm, and said her “teenage self” loved him deeply. “I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world,” she wrote on Instagram.

Angel Carter, his twin sister, also responded on social media. “My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and I, and I promise to cherish them,” she wrote on Instagram. “I know you’re at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again.”

     —

Aaron Carter’s older brother Nick is heartbroken after the singer’s death at the age of 34, he wrote in a post on Instagram Sunday, saying that despite their “complicated relationship,” his love for Carter “has never ever faded.”

“I have always held onto the hope, that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed,” Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, wrote in a caption alongside photos of the brothers through the years. “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.”

“I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know,” he added. “I love you Chizz, now you get a chance to finally have some peace you could never find here on earth…. God, please take care of my baby brother.”

Nick Carter’s statement Sunday comes after a source close to the family told CNN on Saturday that Carter, who found stardom as a young boy with songs like “I Want Candy” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” was found dead in his bathtub.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told CNN it responded to a call for help at Carter’s Lancaster, California, home on Saturday morning around 11 a.m. local time, where a deceased person was found.

Nick Carter’s tribute followed another by his sister, Aaron’s twin Angel, who wrote on Instagram, “To my twin… I loved you beyond measure.”

“My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and I, and I promise to cherish them. I know you’re at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again.”

The singer had been open in the past about his struggles with mental health, but once denied having substance abuse issues in an interview with CNN.

Carter at times had a fraught relationship with his siblings: In 2019, Nick announced he and Angel had filed for a restraining order against their brother, saying in a statement his youngest brother allegedly harbored “intentions of killing my wife and unborn child.” Aaron Carter had denied the allegations, saying he wished harm to no one.

Aside from his siblings, those honoring Carter include Hilary Duff, who played the titular character on Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire,” on which Carter once appeared as a guest star.

“For Aaron – I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world,” Duff wrote on Instagram.

“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… boy did my teenage self love you deeply,” she added. “Sending love to your family at this time.”

Actress Melissa Joan Hart also expressed her condolences, posting a photo of herself with Carter and writing, “Sending love to the family and friends and fans of #AaronCarter. Rest In Peace!”

The band New Kids on the Block similarly shared their sympathies in a statement on Twitter: “We are shocked and saddened about the sudden passing of Aaron Carter. Sending prayers to the Carter family. Rest in peace, Aaron.”
