  • Rams face old friend in Atlanta with tough task to avoid second consecutive loss

    [ad_1]

LOS ANGELES — The Rams are used to these kinds of situations. A reunion taking place a few thousand miles from the place where the memories were formed, a quick talk and hug pregame before heading back into the locker rooms to get ready for battle.

On Monday, the Rams (11-4) will see that familiar face in the form of Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator on their Super Bowl LVI team and the current head coach of the Atlanta Falcons (6-9). Whatever small moments with Morris on the field before the game will surely be filled with the enthusiasm and warmth for which he was known for during his tenure in Los Angeles.

“I’m pretty sure all our kids’ furniture comes from his house because we followed them,” Chris Shula, Morris’ successor as defensive coordinator, said. “He’ll be a great friend for life.”

Oddly, the Rams’ have had a vested interest in Morris’ failure this season, even if they would never root for that outcome. But after a draft day trade to move back 20 spots in exchange for Atlanta’s 2026 first-round pick, every Falcons loss has improved the Rams’ draft status and given them an opportunity to replenish their roster.

“Way down the line for me to even think about that stuff right now (is) though,” head coach Sean McVay said.

But the pick the Falcons traded up for will play a role on Monday. Atlanta selected Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr. with the 26th overall pick in April, and Pearce has been everything the Falcons wanted him to be. He currently leads the 2025 draft class with nine sacks and is second with 39 pressures.

Combined with fellow rookie Jalon Walker and his six sacks, and the Falcons have developed one of the NFL’s premiere pass rush in short order. With the Rams already short-handed at offensive line without right guard Kevin Dotson and right tackle Rob Havenstein, they will have to hope that left tackle Alaric Jackson (knee) comes out on the right side of questionable on Monday night.

“There’s a reason that they’re No. 2 in sacks,” Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said. “Our guys know that they have their work cut out for them.”

On the offensive side, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins has a lot of weapons to play with. Receiver Drake London (knee) is questionable for Monday, but Morris said Saturday that the former USC standout will still play against the Rams. Tight end Kyle Pitts is starting to flash the potential that made him a first-round pick in 2021, averaging 98.8 yards per game the last four weeks as Atlanta moves him around the formation.

But the real jewel is running back Bijan Robinson. The third-year back has already surpassed 2,000 total yards this season, averaging 135.1 per game. The Falcons have not won a game in which Robinson has surpassed 100 scrimmage yards this year.

“You could make the argument that he’s the best back, best skill player in the league,” Shula said. “He can make something out of nothing. With the stretch run game, he’s looking to cut back, whether it’s the check-down screens or just him getting the ball in space. We have to be on it every single snap.”

That wasn’t the case for the Rams in last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams allowed explosives both on defense and in special teams, plays that gave a Seattle team struggling to move the ball life. The blunders led to the dismissal of special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn and McVay spending more time this week with that unit, now under the guidance of interim Ben Kotwica.

If the Rams want to avoid their first consecutive losses since Weeks 4 and 5 of the 2024 season, they’ll need to play more cohesive football on the defensive side of the ball.

“We don’t lose, we learn,” McVay said. “I’ve just loved the response of this group. I think that there is a lot of belief in those responses. We’re shaping ourselves to be as complete and as full as we possibly can.”

  • Ravens ride Derrick Henry’s four touchdowns to keep playoff hopes alive

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Baltimore Ravens’ season was on the brink going into Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers and they needed a win to keep their playoff chances alive.

Derrick Henry was called upon to carry the load and he delivered.

The star running back got the ball early and often. He scored three touchdowns in the first half – all on the ground. He started with a 3-yard score in the first quarter and followed it with a 1-yard score and another 3-yard score in the second quarter.

Henry’s fourth touchdown came in the fourth quarter. Baltimore was hanging on to a 10-point lead and the veteran delivered the dagger on a 25-yard touchdown.

The Ravens won the game 41-24. Henry finished with 216 rushing yards on 36 carries.

Baltimore needed to ride Henry because of injuries to the leader of the offense, Lamar Jackson. He was out for the game due to a back injury. Tyler Huntley subbed in for Jackson and was 16-of-20 for 107 passing yards. He had a clutch touchdown pass to Zay Flowers in the fourth quarter.

BRONCOS OFFICIALLY END CHIEFS’ REIGN AS AFC WEST CHAMPS WITH CHARGERS’ LOSS TO TEXANS

The Packers lost out on the NFC North title with the defeat, ceding it to the Chicago Bears. Green Bay was also missing a crucial part of their offense in Jordan Love.

Malik Willis got the start and did as well as he could. He had 288 passing yards, a touchdown pass, 60 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He showed tremendous heart and nearly gave the death knell to the Ravens’ season. He didn’t finish the game as he suffered a right shoulder injury.

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson had five catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The Ravens still need to hope that the Pittsburgh Steelers suffer an upset at the hands of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. But they can sleep easier knowing that they did their part for at least one night when their backs were against the wall.

  • Alexander: Chargers disappoint a crowd that was pretty much all theirs

    [ad_1]

INGLEWOOD – Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans was the Chargers’ final home game of the 2025 regular season, and – belying the reputation attached to this franchise – the announced paid attendance of 73,066 represented a true home field advantage.

It didn’t help. And now the chances are that this might be the Chargers’ last SoFi Stadium appearance of the season.

Two quick strikes in the first six minutes of the game by Houston quarterback (and Rancho Cucamonga’s own) C.J. Stroud, touchdown plays of 75 and 43 yards to Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, put the home team on its back foot. And a myriad of miscues – including an uncharacteristic two missed kicks by the Chargers’ Cameron Dicker, on a 32-yard field goal try that went wide right near the end of the first half and an extra point that he doinked off the left goalpost – helped produce a 20-16 loss that put any chance for a division title out of reach.

At 11-5, they’re two games behind Denver with one left to play. And with the No. 7 spot in the AFC standings seemingly theirs unless they win at Denver next week and the Texans (also 11-5) stumble at Indianapolis, chances are their first playoff game will be at New England, 12-3 and facing the woeful Jets (3-12) Sunday on the road and Miami (6-9) next week at home.

In a word: B-r-r-r-r-r-r.  Have your parkas ready, guys.

It’s easy to be pessimistic and assume the Chargers’ story will be one-and-out, given the team’s history. It’s up to the current club, which had won seven of eight before Saturday, to change that narrative. Maybe next week’s regular season finale in Denver will turn out to be far more important than it seems at this moment.

And yes, the tone (and verbiage) in the locker room, as expressed by quarterback Justin Herbert, is what you might expect.

“It’s been a one-game season each week,” he said. “Every game is the most important, and you dive into it and you give it your all each week. And I’ve got no doubt that this team will do that again next week.”

And, when asked if the regular season finale is vital in regaining momentum to take into the postseason:

“Every game is important, especially that one, because it’s the next one. They’re a very good opponent. We know how good they are offensively, defensively and on special teams. And so it’s gonna take a good week of preparation for us. We gotta be on our stuff, dialed, locked in and have a good week of practice.”

The hometown crowd was boisterous as the afternoon began, hushed after those back-to-back daggers on the Texans’ first two series made it 14-0, and noisy again as the Chargers fought back to within 17-10 in the third quarter and trailed 20-16 with 3:37 left in the game on Omarion Hampton’s burst into the end zone, before Dicker’s doink put them out of range of a potential tying field goal.

Beyond those two defensive blemishes at the start, the Chargers were 2 for 5 in the red zone, The other touchdown was a 1-yard scoring reception by Oronde Gadsden in the third quarter, sort of atoning for the Herbert bullet that slipped through his hands and was picked off by Houston’s Azeez Al-Shaair at the Texans 1.

That pick was one of the three missed red zone opportunities. The others: Dicker’s made field goal early in the second quarter, settling for three rather than a chance at seven after the Chargers had gotten to the Houston 9, and that missed field goal at the very end of the first half, after Eric Molten had made up for Gadsden’s muff by intercepting Stroud at the Houston 32 with 45 seconds left in the half.

“We know what we’re capable of,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “But yeah, things that were just off a little bit. (There’s) things to clean up and make us better going forward.”

Yeah, there was plenty to clean up.

Besides Dicker’s issues, punter JK Scott had an off day as well, a 38.4 average on seven punts including a 22-yard shank early in the third quarter, leading to a field goal that gave Houston a 17-3 lead. There was also a 34-yarder early in the fourth quarter, and after that one Scott heard some boos.

Saturday’s result, and the way it developed, “definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth,” safety Derwin James Jr. said. “But at the end of the day, our end goal’s still right there, winning that Super Bowl. So, just get better from it, look at the film, get better. You’re not going to beat nobody in this league spotting them 14, so you got to go out there and play hard.”

True progress will be determined from here on. And, as noted, in all likelihood it’ll take place away from SoFi.  But the crowd and atmosphere on this day suggested that the Chargers’ fan base need not apologize to anyone.

Fact is – and yes, this might hurt if you were a fan in San Diego and felt that the team was ripped away from you – if you squinted real hard Saturday it might have seemed like the atmosphere of the good old days at Qualcomm Stadium, right down to the navy blue throwbacks the home team wore.

This was so different from all those occasions the last few years when visiting fans have made the most noise in this building, both for the Chargers and for the Rams. That was, and is, the consequence of two decades without the NFL in this community.

“Thought it was awesome,” Herbert said, adding that with “the environment and how much the community has given us, I think it’s really cool to be able to see that from the fans. And I’m sorry that we didn’t get it done for them. We felt their support, felt their noise, but it was a cool experience to see so many Chargers fans.

“… It’s on us to be able to deliver and give them a performance that is worthy of their support.”

That process starts now, even if it figures to be from long distance.

  • Broncos win AFC West for first time since 2015

    [ad_1]

    A decade-long drought is over.

The Broncos are AFC West champions again.

The long wait ended Saturday evening in the midst of a long weekend for the Broncos, who beat Kansas City on Christmas night and then watched with joy as Houston knocked off the Los Angeles Chargers two days later.

That result cemented the Broncos’ status as division champions by knocking the Chargers to 11-5, two games behind with just a Week 18 tilt between the teams at Empower Field remaining.

Head coach Sean Payton has said since the beginning of the season that the team’s three goals, in order, are to win the division, earn the best seed possible and then play for a Super Bowl title.

Now the first of those goals is achieved. Next weekend Denver will play for the second.

The game against the Chargers loses some juice because, had Los Angeles won Saturday, it would have been a division championship game. Still, the stakes are plenty high for Payton’s team. A win secures the No. 1 seed in the AFC, a bye through the Wild Card round and the assurance that the playoffs will run through Denver as long as the Broncos are playing.

Regardless of what happens in Week 18 — the NFL sets the playing slate after Week 17 action finishes, meaning the Broncos and Chargers could play Saturday or Sunday — Denver is assured of a top-3 seed in the conference and a home playoff game.

The difference between the top spot and any other, though, should be plenty to keep Payton’s team motivated as it returns to the practice field this week.

“We have to play the final game and we have to take care of it,” quarterback Bo Nix said Thursday night after beating the Chiefs but before the division was secured. “They’re going to be a good football team. Some other team could help us along the way, but at the end of the day, it is going to come down to us vs. them. We’re excited to have them at home. It is going to be a really good environment and atmosphere. It’s honestly a playoff atmosphere. It is going to be tough.”

Now the Chargers have only seeding to play for, but Jim Harbaugh’s team has been a thorn in Payton’s side. Harbaugh to date is 3-0 against Denver since returning to the NFL before the 2024 season.

  • Rams’ Puka Nacua says NFL fine stung, calls it a ‘learning moment’

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

For just the second time in his NFL career, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is dealing with the reality of a league-imposed fine. The NFL Network reported that the third-year receiver was fined $25,000 after he criticized officials during a viral livestream and in a social media post.

On Friday, the 24-year-old addressed the costly discipline, acknowledging it was difficult.

“That one, it definitely hurt,” Nacua told reporters in his first public comments since he received the fine.

He added that the fine served as a lesson.

“I think it was something I was expecting,” he said. “It was a learning moment and an experience to learn from and to never let happen again.

“There are going to be moments of frustration later on in my career, whether it’s ups and downs on my personal half or on the team’s half. So, being able to manage those emotions and send that energy in the right direction.”

Nacua raised eyebrows when he said during a livestream appearance with internet personalities Adin Ross and N3on that “the refs are the worst.”

He also stirred controversy during the livestream when he appeared to perform a gesture that plays upon antisemitic tropes. He later apologized.

“I had no idea this act was antisemitic in nature and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against Jewish people,” the receiver said in an Instagram post. “I deeply apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions as I do not stand for any form of racism, bigotry or hate of another group of people.”

After catching 12 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns in a Dec. 18 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Nacua once again expressed his frustration with how NFL referees handled the game.

“Can you say i was wrong. Appreciate you stripes for your contribution. Lol,” he wrote on X.

Rams coach Sean McVay dismissed the idea that the off-field chatter surrounding Nacua was a distraction leading up to last week’s clash with the team’s NFC West rival.

“It wasn’t a distraction at all,” McVay said. “Did you think his play showed he was distracted? I didn’t think so either. He went off today.”

Nacua said he was more than happy to move forward from the tumultuous series of events.

“A hundred percent,” Nacua said. “Christmas. I’m glad there was something like a big thing going on, something that would push everything to the previous week. It’s been nice to enjoy, celebrate, rejoice and then get ready for what’s ahead of us.”

  • Broncos’ Bo Nix explains fear of dogs to Kirk Herbstreit after first interaction went viral

    [ad_1]

We continue to learn things about Bo Nix that surprise us.

Last year, we found out he does not curse. On Christmas Day, he revealed his fear of dogs to Kirk Herbstreit after an awkward meeting with the broadcaster’s famous golden retriever Peter went viral last month.

Herbstreit reunited the pair, with Nix petting the pup during warmups before the Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-13.

“My wife (Izzy) will be shocked,” Nix said.

Herbstreit travels the country with Peter, who took over the role of unofficial ambassador after his brother Ben passed away last November following a battle with leukemia and lymphoma.

  • Broncos sign C Sam Mustipher from Chargers’ practice squad

    [ad_1]

The Broncos continued tinkering with their offensive line mix Friday by signing center Sam Mustipher from the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad.

To clear a spot on the 53-man roster, Denver waived offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton. If Throckmorton clears waivers, he is in line to return to the Broncos’ practice squad.

The move is interesting for multiple reasons.

First, Mustipher spent 2024 training camp with the Broncos before being waived at the roster cutdown deadline. He’s a veteran player and one who is familiar to the Broncos.

Also: Mustipher played 12 games last year for the Chargers and has been on Jim Harbaugh’s practice squad for a chunk of this season, too. Denver plays what is sure to be a meaningful game and still could end up a titanic one in Week 18 at home against the Chargers.

Throckmorton served as the No. 2 center for Denver on Thursday night at Kansas City as Alex Forsyth stepped into the starting lineup.

He replaced Luke Wattenberg, who was placed on injured reserve Thursday with a shoulder injury. Head coach Sean Payton said the IR placement for Wattenberg, who just signed a four-year, $48 million extension in November, came down to roster management.

“He’s right at that (four-week) mark,” Payton said of Wattenberg.

Wattenberg is first eligible to return if the Broncos make the AFC Championship Game.

Assuming Denver gets Throckmorton back to the practice squad, it will have four experienced interior options as depth: Throckmorton, Mustipher, Geron Christian and whoever doesn’t start at left guard between Alex Palczewski and Ben Powers.

  • Heights High Grad Travis Kelce Faces Emotional Night, Retirement Looms

    [ad_1]

    Source: Jamie Squire / Getty

Cleveland Heights native Travis Kelce experienced an emotional night at Arrowhead Stadium as speculation surrounding his NFL future continued to grow. The longtime Kansas City Chiefs tight end addressed retirement questions following the game, acknowledging uncertainty about how much longer he plans to play.

Kelce showed visible emotion after the final whistle as fans at Arrowhead gave him a lengthy ovation. The moment carried added weight as the season winds down and Kelce weighs his future in football. The veteran star admitted the emotions caught up with him during the postgame atmosphere.

Kelce has spent his entire NFL career with the Chiefs and helped define one of the most successful eras in franchise history. He has played a key role in multiple Super Bowl championships and has become one of the most productive tight ends in league history. His connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes transformed the Chiefs’ offense and helped establish Kansas City as a perennial contender.

Despite his continued production, Kelce has openly discussed the physical toll of playing football. He has acknowledged the challenges of preparing his body each week and balancing long-term health considerations. Those factors now play a growing role as he considers his next steps.

Kelce grew up in Cleveland Heights before starring at the University of Cincinnati. Northeast Ohio football fans have followed his journey from high school standout to NFL superstar. His success has made him one of the most accomplished professional athletes to come from the Cleveland area in recent decades.

Chiefs officials have not indicated any final decision regarding Kelce’s future. The tight end has said he plans to take time after the season to evaluate his options. For now, his focus remains on finishing the season strong while appreciating moments that may soon become memories.

  • 49ers’ George Kittle misses practice again as status for Bears game Sunday remains uncertain

    [ad_1]

George Kittle’s injured ankle forced him to miss practice again on Thursday, leaving the 49ers’ Pro Bowl tight end’s status for Sunday night’s game against the Chicago Bears in question.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday that Kittle still has “a chance” to face the Bears as long as he was able to heal quick enough from his injury during Monday night’s win over Indianapolis.

San Francisco (11-4) has clinched a playoff spot and can earn the top seed in the NFC by beating the Bears (11-4) and Seattle (12-3) in the final two games of the season.

But losing Kittle would be a big blow to a San Francisco offense that has been operating at a high level during a five-game winning streak. The Niners have gone back-to-back games without having to punt for the first time in franchise history.
Kittle is a key part of both the run and pass game for the 49ers. The Niners’ running game has improved since Kittle returned after missing five games early this season with a hamstring injury.

Amazon Prime Video aired an interview between him and Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez before the game began.

“I think I’m still searching for those answers. I think, obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth, I feel motivated, but I got to make the right decision for me,” he told Gonzalez. “I’ve got to hope that, you know, if I do want to come back, the Chiefs are willing to bring me back.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked what it meant that it could be Kelce’s last game at home.

“I don’t know if it is or not. I haven’t talked to him,” Reid said. “I think his numbers and personality and the person, I think, speak for themselves. Phenomenal person (and) great for the community. He’s everything you want from a player representing an organization.”

  • Broncos-Chiefs scouting report: No Patrick Mahomes. No Gardner Minshew. Hello, Chris Oladokun.

    [ad_1]

    Broncos (12-3) at Chiefs (6-9)

    When: 6:15 p.m. Thursday

Where: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Mo.

    TV/radio: Prime Video, 850 AM/94.1 FM

Broncos-Chiefs series: Both Denver and Kansas City know this well. The Broncos are still down all-time to the Chiefs, at 57-73-0 in 130 total matchups in the franchises’ history. But Denver has the recent upper hand, with two straight regular-season wins and a nail-biting 22-19 win over Kansas City on Nov. 16. The Broncos’ defense hasn’t been the same since that win and subsequent bye, though.

In the spotlight: Who the Kel(ce) is Chiefs starting quarterback Chris Oladokun?

    How the mighty have fallen.

On Christmas, the Broncos will take a short flight up to Kansas City to witness the death throes of a franchise that only has a couple of games left on the throne. The Chiefs will not win the AFC West for the first time in a decade, and they’ll finish with a losing record for the first time since the 2-14 days of Romeo Crennel in 2012. This may well be the last time that Denver sees 36-year-old future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce, who will make a retirement decision after the season. They won’t see quarterback Patrick Mahomes — and might not next year, either — after Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Dec. 14’s 16-13 loss to the Chargers.

To make matters worse, Kansas City’s QB stopgap Gardner Minshew hurt his knee in Sunday’s loss to the Titans. That leaves this Kansas City dynasty, for a primetime affair with the country watching on Christmas evening, turning to … Chris Oladokun.

    Who?

Here’s what’s known on the 28-year-old Oladokun, from a national perspective. He played two seasons of FBS football as a backup at USF, from 2017-18. He transferred to FCS program Samford for a couple of years. He started at South Dakota State for one year after that, and played well enough (3,164 yards, 25 TDs) to warrant a seventh-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022’s draft. Oladokun was waived during roster cuts that fall, signed to Kansas City’s practice squad a few days later, and has stuck there pretty much ever since.

Now, after being promoted to the active roster after Mahomes’ injury and filling in for an injured Minshew mid-game against Tennessee — 11-for-16, 111 yards — Oladokun will make the first start of his NFL career against the current No. 1 seed in the AFC.

“It’s something I don’t take lightly,” Oladokun told Kansas City reporters Tuesday. “These opportunities don’t come around often, and so when you get ‘em, you gotta take that and run with it. So, this is not only a big game for our team, but me personally a big game, in terms of letting the league know what I can do and letting these coaches know what I can do.”

So what can he do? Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said this week that Oladokun has had an “easy transition” because of his knowledge of Kansas City’s offensive verbiage, but that they’d naturally ease back on specific formations without Mahomes. One obvious similarity: just 8% of Mahomes’ attempts this season have come from under center, in Kansas City’s shotgun-heavy offense. Just one of Oladokun’s 16 attempts against the Titans came from under center, too. That doesn’t seem destined to change.

  • Eagles-Bills Week 17 injury report, with analysis

    [ad_1]

The Philadelphia Eagles enter their Week 17 matchup with the Buffalo Bills relatively healthy at this point in the season. The Bills have a long list of players on IR, as well as on their injury report this week.

Here’s the Eagles-Bills injury report, with analysis.

    051020EaglesLogo2020
Player  Injury  Wed  Thurs Fri  Status
    RT Lane Johnson Foot DNP
    WR A.J. Brown  Teeth  DNP
    LB Nakobe Dean  Hamstring  DNP
    LG Landon Dickerson  Illness  DNP
    iDL Jalen Carter  Shoulders  Full
    WR DeVonta Smith  Illness  Full
    LB Zack Baun  Hand  Full
    LB Jihaad Campbell  Back/Ankle  Full
    OT Fred Johnson  Calf  Full
    TE Cameron Latu  Stinger  Full
    OT Cameron Williams  Shoulder  Full

    Wednesday notes:

    • Jalen Carter is back at practice for the first time since having a procedure on his shoulders.

    • Still no Lane Johnson, though he is expected to be ready to play in Buffalo.

    • Nakobe Dean didn’t practice, as expected. Vic Fangio told reporters that Dean avoided a more serious injury, but his status for Sunday is “iffy.”

    • A.J. Brown had his wisdom teeth out. He’s fine.

Notable players on IR, PUP, suspension, etc.

S Andrew Mukuba (IR, eligible to come off of IR after Week 16): Mukuba has had an up and down rookie season, but was beginning to earn the trust of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. On the season, Mukuba has 46 tackles and 2 INTs. He is eligible to come off of IR this week, though Fangio said a week ago that he wouldn’t be ready. Marcus Epps has played well in Makuba’s absence.

WR Johnny Wilson (IR, knee/ankle, out for the season): Wilson is a massive receiver at 6’6, 228 who carved out a dirty work role as a physical blocker his rookie season in 2024, though sometimes he was a little too aggressive, as he committed four penalties (3 holding, 1 OPI). He wasn’t much of a threat as a receiver, catching only 5 passes for 38 yards and a TD. He played a little over 400 snaps, and actually started four games.

EDGE Ogbo Okoronkwo (IR, triceps, eligible to come off of IR at any time, season could be over): Okoronkwo was signed to provide edge depth. He played in just one game (4 snaps) before tearing his triceps.

EDGE Azeez Ojulari (IR, triceps, eligible to come off of IR at any time): Ojulari was the presumed third EDGE defender in the pecking order when he signed with the Eagles as a free agent, but he is now no better than the EDGE7.

FB Ben VanSumeren (IR, knee, out for the season): VanSumeren was poised to take on a bigger role in the Eagles’ offense in 2025 as a full-time fullback, but he tore his patellar tendon on the opening kickoff of the season. His season is over.

iOL Willie Lampkin (IR, season over): Lampkin is an extreme oddity, in that he is a 5’11 offensive lineman who only weighs 290 pounds. He looks like a player you’d create in Madden just for fun. However, coming out of North Carolina he received glowing reviews for his play on the field, and he played well in the preseason after signing with the Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent. The Rams waived Lampkin with an injury designation. The Eagles then claimed him and placed him on their IR.

The Eagles activated Lampkin’s 21-day practice window, which expired. He won’t play this season.

OT Myles Hinton (IR, Eagles opened up 21-day practice window on 11/19): Hinton is a sixth-round rookie who was up and down in training camp. The Eagles placed him on IR with a back injury, and he has not been on the active roster all season.

The Eagles activated Hinton’s 21-day practice window, which expired. He won’t play this season.

OT Cameron Williams (IR, eligible to come off of IR at any time): Williams struggled in training camp, and landed on IR. This is effectively a redshirt season for him. Williams did have his 21-day practice window activated last Thursday, but he remains unlikely to play this season.

Player  Injury  Wed  Thurs  Fri  Status
    DE Joey Bosa Hamstring DNP
    DT DaQuan Jones  Calf  DNP
    TE Dalton Kincaid  Knee  DNP
    TE Dawson Knox  Knee  DNP
    DT Jordan Phillips  Ankle  DNP
    S Jordan Poyer  Hamstring  DNP
K Matt Prater  Right quad  DNP
    QB Josh Allen  Foot  Limited
    CB Taron Johnson  Quad  Limited
    DB Cam Lewis  Hamstring  Limited
    LB Shaq Thompson  Neck  Limited
    S Cole Bishop  Ribs  Full
    RB Ray Davis  Knee  Full

    Wednesday notes

    • Apologies, but I’m spending time with my family on Christmas Eve, and will not be diving into the context of the Bills’ injury report this evening. #Analysis to come soon.

Notable players on IR, PUP, suspension, etc.

DT Ed Oliver (IR, eligible to return at any time): Oliver is a very good player who had 9.5 sacks in 2023, 3 in 2024, and 3 in 3 games in 2025 before suffering a torn biceps injury. He could return at some point this season, but it won’t be in time for this matchup.

DE Michael Hoecht (IR, season over): The Bills signed Hoecht to decent money this offseason (3 years, $21 million), and he had 2 sacks in 2 games before tearing his Achillles. His season is over.

DE Landon Jackson (IR, season over): Jackson is a third-round rookie who appeared in 3 games before suffering a torn MCL and PCL. His season is over.

DT DeWayne Carter (IR, season over): Carter was a rotational defensive lineman for the Bills in 2024. He tore an Achilles in August, ending his season.

CB Darius Slay (DNR): After the Steelers waived Slay, the Bills claimed him on waivers, but he did not report to the team.

S Taylor Rapp (IR, season likely over): Rapp is a starting safety. He played in six games, before having surgery on a nagging knee that he had tried to play through. His season is probably over.

S Damar Hamlin (IR, season likely over): Hamlin was a starter for the Bills in 2024, but he had a smaller role on the 2025 team. He suffered a pectoral injury, and his season is likely over.

CB Dorian Strong (IR, season over): Strong is a sixth-round rookie who played in four games this season (1 start), before he suffered a career-threatening neck injury.

WR Curtis Samuel (IR, eligible to come off of IR at any time): Samuel has a stat line of 7-81-1 in 6 games this season. He landed on IR with knee and elbow injuries. He is eligible to come off of IR this week.

WR Mecole Hardman (IR): Hardman is a three-time Super Bowl champ with the Chiefs who signed with the Bills this season. He has only played in one game, but he had a 61-yard kick return in that game. He landed on IR with a calf injury, but the Bills opened his 21-day practice window last week.

K Tyler Bass (IR): Bass is a good kicker who has been over 80% every year of his career. He had surgery to correct a hip injury that persisted throughout training camp. The Bills’ kicker this season had been Matt Prater, who is 18 of 20 on field goals, and 43 of 46 on PATs.

  • NFL dominates College Football Playoff in ratings battle

    [ad_1]

The College Football Playoff is the talk of the sports world right now as 12 teams compete for the national title, but the NFL wanted to remind everyone this past weekend who is still the king when it comes down to it.

On Saturday, college football and the NFL went head-to-head on broadcast with two games each, and the viewership results, like many of the CFP games, were blowouts by the final whistle.

In the opening contest, 15.46 million people watched the Eagles take hold of the NFC East crown against divisional rival Washington, a game that was close until it wasn’t.

For the CFP, 6.2 million watched as Ole Miss beat down the Tulane Green Wave for the second time this season in a laugher that felt over following the first quick Mississippi drive for a touchdown.

More news: Andy Reid Opens Up About Travis Kelce’s Potential Final Chiefs Home Game

At night, it was more of the same: a whopping 21.34 million watched the Bears take down the Packers in one of the more entertaining regular-season games of the year. Caleb Williams and company came back in the final minutes, aided by an onside kick, to push the game into overtime before throwing a deep shot into the endzone for a dramatic walk-off victory.

Oregon vs. James Madison, which was another Group of Five team getting smacked around by a perennial powerhouse, had no chance. 4.4 million tuned in to watch as the Dukes tried their best to hang on in a game where the Ducks scored at will at home in Eugene.

For college football fans, however, they will argue that Saturday’s biggest game was on first, which was the back-and-forth defensive battle between Texas A&M and Miami. It was the highest by far on the day for the CFP, with 14.8 million watching as Miami won on the road at College Station to set up a quarterfinal against defending champion Ohio State.

  • NFL reporter responds to fake death rumor in hilarious fashion: ‘Glitch in the matrix’

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

An internet rumor swirled last week that a longtime NFL reporter had died at the age of 40.

News of Jane Slater‘s supposed death on social media, but she was quick to shut it down.

An X user posted a screenshot of a post on Facebook that showed Slater in black and white with the graphic “1980-2025” saying she had died at 40. Slater, 45, was born in 1980, but the years written in the post would mean she died at either age 44 or 45.

“A veteran reporter who covered the Dallas Cowboys—having followed the team for over a decade—has passed away at the age of 40 after a tragic domestic violence incident, leaving behind a 5-year-old child. Her years of dedicated work, along with the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding her death, have left loyal fans stunned, devastated, and praying for her and her family,” the post read.

The user asked Slater, “did you pass away??”

“I don’t think so? But does this mean there is (a) glitch in the matrix? I’m gonna wrap myself in bubble wrap until NYE,” Slater joked.

If there is one thing the Facebook post got correct, it’s that Slater does mainly cover the Cowboys for the NFL Network.

  • Broncos don’t intend to place LB Dre Greenlaw on injured reserve, sources say

    [ad_1]

A potential Week 15 injury nightmare for these Broncos appears to be more just a bad dream.

Denver is not planning to place linebacker Dre Greenlaw on injured reserve, multiple sources told The Denver Post on Tuesday. Greenlaw suffered a non-contact hamstring injury late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 34-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and has been listed as an estimated DNP on Denver’s injury reports Monday and Tuesday.

With 2:07 left in a game that was already decided, Greenlaw chased Jaguars running back Travis Etienne at the back-end of an 11-yard run and came up hopping over to the sidelines on his right leg, clearly unable to put much weight on his left. The Broncos quickly ruled Greenlaw out with a hamstring injury, a somber development for Denver’s late-season push for an AFC West divisional title and No. 1 seed.

The Broncos, though, clearly don’t view Greenlaw’s injury as season-ending. If they did opt to place him on injured reserve, the soonest Greenlaw could return — if Denver locks up the one-seed in the AFC — would be for a potential conference championship game. It’s likely, then, that Greenlaw is back at some point for the Broncos’ playoff run.

Denver’s linebacker room has been a game-by-game carousel this season, with Greenlaw and starting linebacker Alex Singleton just starting to develop some synergy before Greenlaw’s latest ailment. The offseason signee was hampered for much of the start of 2025 with a lingering quad injury, and then served a one-game suspension in Week 8.

Singleton then missed a game three weeks later after undergoing surgery to remove a testicular tumor. And LB3 Justin Strnad didn’t play Sunday against the Jaguars with a foot injury, with rookie Karene Reid already on injured reserve since November.

The Broncos should have reinforcements in any extended Greenlaw absence, as Strnad was a full participant in Tuesday’s walkthrough and looks set to start next to Singleton in Greenlaw’s place against the Chiefs on Christmas Day. Denver, too, could elevate Reid this week off IR after opening his 21-day window to return last week.

    Center shakeup

Broncos starting center Luke Wattenberg wasn’t present for Tuesday’s walkthrough with a shoulder injury, indicating Wattenberg’s highly doubtful to play Thursday against the Chiefs on Christmas Day. It’d be Wattenberg’s first missed game of the year, after starting 15 straight and earning a midseason extension in his second year as Denver’s man in the middle.

Backup Alex Forsyth would almost certainly be the next man up in Wattenberg’s absence. Forsyth filled in capably for four games in 2024 when Wattenberg was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury, and has plenty of cohesion with quarterback Bo Nix dating back to a shared 2022 season playing for Oregon.

    Still rotating

The Broncos eased left guard Ben Powers back into action slowly against Jacksonville, playing Powers just 23 snaps in his return off injured reserve in a two-possession rotation with Alex Palczewski. Payton said Tuesday that the Powers-Palczewski rotation will continue Thursday night against Kansas City.
