New York Comic Con is here, and, with it being such a massive event, you knew the cosplayers were going to be out in full force. Which is exactly what happened as the convention kicked off for its latest iteration at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
People wearing costumes from all your favorite films, TV shows, comics, games, anime, and more were all over the convention center, and io9 was there to capture as much of it as possible. Check out just some of our favorite cosplayers from day one of New York Comic Con 2025 and check back later this week for even more.
It was hard to miss the title of the Invincible panel at New York Comic Con this year. The panel was called “Probably the Best Invincible Panel in the History of Invincible Panels,” which is saying a lot. Panels at San Diego Comic-Con, for example, have shown new trailers and footage, announced casting, and even revealed that there are full, new Invincible spinoffs on the way. To be “probably the best Invincible panel in the history of Invincible panels” was saying a lot. And it sounds like it delivered.
Co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer Robert Kirkman joined stars Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, and others on the Empire Stage in New York Friday night to tease what’s happening in season four, which we now know is coming in March 2026. The Comic Con program mentioned questions like, “Has Invincible recovered from the fight with Conquest? Will things ever be the same with Eve? Will there be more Omni-Man in Season Four? Where is Season Five?” Some of those were at least floated during the panel but also, we got this brand new tease.
Not much in the way of footage, but a few morsels in there, lots of meta Invincible humor. Plus, it was announced that Lee Pace is joining the show in season four as Thragg, leader of the Viltrum Empire.
Season four ended with Invincible and Atom Eve almost completely broken after their showdown with the (almost) impossible-to-beat Viltrumite, Conquest. They triumphed, at great personal cost, and then we were left with multiple places the future of the show could go. Cecil kept Conquest’s body. Battle Beast was rescued in space. And, most interestingly, the character Damien Darkblood was teased. There were lots of places season four could go, and only some of that is teased in the footage.
Invincible will return with season four and has already been given a green light for season five. In addition, there’s a very cool-looking new game on the horizon, Invincible Vs., and you can read our interview with Kirkman about that at this link and watch a new teaser below. How excited are you for the future of Invincible?
Over two years ago, Trigun Stampede premiered, offering a new reimagining of the hit anime based on Yashiro Nightow’s manga. A slick new visual style and some extra additions made it its own distinct thing, and now Studio Orange is ready to bring things to a close with Trigun Stargaze.
The first two episodes of the upcoming series premiered at New York Comic Con with Nightow, series director Masako Sato, and Orange’s Yota Shirasu and Yoshihiro Watanabe in attendance.
Stargaze picks up two years after Stampede’s ending, with Vash the Stampede living on a small settlement on Noman’s Land. He lost his memory after fighting his brother Knives, while Meryl is searching for him with new partner Milly Thompson in tow. Vash, Meryl, Milly, and gunslinging priest Nicholas Wolfwood are all present and accounted for in the trailer, which is good since they’re going up against the Independent Chronica, who’ve come to investigate the planet after Vash and Knives’ battle.
The Nacelle Company—the Star Trek fan‘s go-to source for figures capturing some of the franchise’s best-loved characters—had a big showing at New York Comic Con today, offering updates on its previously announced releases as well as some exciting new additions.
While we love that several deep-dive characters (Weyoun! Nog! A “Year of Hell”-specific Janeway!) have been included in Nacelle’s lineup so far, the company has a couple more familiar faces coming soon, too. Including this guy, announced today at NYCC:
“Spock remains one of the most enduring characters not only in the Star Trek franchise but in all of science fiction,” Nacelle reminds us in a press release. “The first look at the figure provided fans with a glimpse of the legendary Vulcan science officer in his classic attire.” Plus, check out the attention to detail in those accessories!
Nacelle also teased a Wave 4 entry: the one and only Jean-Luc Picard. No figure glimpse yet, but check out his ship wall:
As you can see, the accessories are “inspired by his appearance in Star Trek: First Contact. The set brings a new depth to this version of the iconic captain.”
Along with the new reveals, Nacelle also offered updates for fans eagerly awaiting figures from Waves One and Two.
Wave One figures are currently “in the final stages of production, with packaging complete and shipments scheduled to begin in Q4 2025. The first wave includes Captain Jellico, Weyoun, Captain Garrett, Captain Sulu (Star Trek VI), Peter Preston, Tuvix, Valkris, and Mirror Universe Archer.” You can still snag pre-orders at Nacelle’s shop and other online outlets, as well as indie toy stores in the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
As for Wave Two, pre-orders are officially open for James T. Kirk (Generations), Kathryn Janeway (“Year of Hell” Edition), Nog (“Favor the Bold” Edition), T’Pol, Valeris, Romulan Commander, Carol Marcus, Bem, Worf (Generations Sailor Edition), and Geordi La Forge (Generations Sailor Edition). Details are here, and they’ll ship in Q3 2026.
“This is one of the biggest weeks we’ve had since launching the line,” Nacelle CEO Brian Volk-Weiss said in a press release. “Between the pre-sale, long-awaited updates, and new reveals, we wanted to give collectors everything they’ve been waiting for, and hopefully a little more.”
“This line was built by Star Trek fans for Star Trek fans, and we know how eager the community has been to get Wave One in hand,” said Volk-Weiss. “We’re grateful for the patience and can’t wait for these figures to start landing on everybody’s shelves.”
As Nacelle continues work on its Star Trek line, you can actually chime in regarding future releases via the company’s dedicated email for fan feedback: [email protected].
Looking at what’s already been announced and the deeply nerdy delights therein—Kirk’s jar of dill weed!—it seems a good chance that all suggestions, no matter how obscure, will be entertained.
Revealed during New York Comic Con, the guys are going up against the likes of mutant worms, Bebop, a werewolf, and a returning Bishop, who plans on taking them down with her new creation, “Mutant Omega.” The new season will drop on Paramount+ in December, the same month as the Mutant Mayhem Turtles are making a semi-return on the big screen with the short film, Chrome Alone 2 — Lost in New Jersey.
Along with the new Tales season, Paramount revealed a newly launched “World of TMNT” online hub that unites all the various Ninja Turtles incarnations. On the site, fans can “explore the complete TMNT legacy, from the original Eastman & Laird comics and ‘90s live-action classics to Mutant Mayhem and beyond – all within one unified brand and visual identity.”
At launch, the hub contains the original Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman comics, the Fred Wolf TV series, the 2003 and 2012 series, the live-action films from the 1990s and 2010s, Rise of the TMNT, Mutant Mayhem, and Tales, the original Last Ronin comics, and the IDW Comics Collection. “World of” also has a documentary podcast covering the Turtles’ history with interviews from various TMNT creators, artists, and actors, and it’ll launch later in October.
Meanwhile, the unnamed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel is still slated for a September 17, 2027, release with Shredder as the big bad.
It’s been almost four long years since Mobile Suit Gundam returned us to the astropolitical drama of the Universal Century in Hathaway, the first in a planned trilogy of movies adapting Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino’s 1989 novel series. And now, after years of silence, we finally know just when to expect it.
Timed with the franchise’s panel at New York Comic Con today, Bandai Namco Filmworks has released our first extended look at the second Hathaway film, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe. Set in the year 0105 of Gundam‘s primary timeline, the Universal Century—decades after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam and its own trilogy of successors—the story follows Hathaway Noa, the son of the former captain of the famed White Base during the One Year War, Bright Noa, as he leads a resistance group named Mafty in a fight against the increasingly totalitarian Earth Federation’s treatment of space colonists.
Sorcery of Nymph Circe will pick up after the events of the first movie, where Hathaway found himself at odds with the Federation Commander Kenneth Sleg (Junichi Suwabe), tasked with leading the unit meant to destroy Mafty and its leader—only for the both of them to cross paths with the mysterious young woman Gigi Andulicia (Reina Ueda) in the aftermath of a terrorist attack on a space plane. Now circling both Kenneth and Hathaway, Gigi’s impact on the latter will see him shaken as he re-examines his convictions in continuing the fight against the Federation he once fought for as a young boy.
The first film leaned heavily into the examination of the renewed political tension between Earth and the space colonies (a perpetual cycle in Gundam), although in its rare moments of mecha action it managed to deliver some of the best the Gundam series has to offer. This new trailer, even as it weaves between Hathaway, Kenneth, and Gigi, certainly seems to focus on a bit more Mobile Suit action, so maybe we’ll see plenty more of the latter this time around.
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe will hit Japanese theaters on January 30, 2026. No date has been confirmed for a U.S. release, but unlike the first movie, which premiered exclusively on Netflix, the film is currently expected to release in U.S. theaters.
Toy collectors always have two dates circled on their calendars: San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con. That’s because the company with some of the biggest licenses in the world, Hasbro, always has a ton of incredible reveals of what fans will want to be picking up over the next few months.
Hasbro just finished its 2025 New York Comic Con panel and it didn’t disappoint, giving us some really popular Marvel characters, as well as fan-favorite deep cuts, and then a nice wide spectrum of Star Wars too. Below, we break it all down.
Marvel Legends
Marvel’s Apocalypse

And so much more…
Those are our favorites, but there were a ton of other Marvel Legends announcements. There was Phantom Rider, Warbow, Enchantress, Werewolf by Night, and Iron Man: Mark 72, too. They all cost $28 and will be available to pre-order at 1 p.m. ET on October 10 on Hasbro Pulse. Expected ship dates: fall 2025.

This figure comes with a removable helmet, a blaster accessory, a rifle accessory, and a jetpack with a removable rocket.” It costs $28 and will be available to pre-order at 1 p.m. ET on October 10 on Hasbro Pulse. A cop accused of murdering his wife must battle the highly advanced crime-solving tech of the future to prove his innocence. It could be Minority Report. Or it could be Mercy, which doesn’t quite look on the level of that Philip K. Dick-Steven Spielberg-Tom Cruise classic, but it does have some intriguing points, including Rebecca Ferguson as an AI-powered judge equipped to execute instantly in the event of a guilty verdict.
Chris Pratt is the star, though, so you’ve been warned; this will mostly be the Chris Pratt Show. According to NYCC’s panel description, Mercy is set in the near future, as “an LAPD detective (Pratt) wakes up strapped to an execution chair, on trial for murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to Judge Maddox (Rebecca Ferguson), an advanced AI system, or face immediate death.”
Check out the first trailer for Mercy, which also stars Kali Reis (True Detective), Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), and Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), among others.
Director Timur Bekmanbetov is known for his high-stakes thrillers; his previous works include Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as well as Night Watch and Day Watch, early-career Russian releases before he ventured to Hollywood.
Can Pratt’s character beat the system, having helped bring the system to life? Will he realize the dangers of giving AI too much control? Will Mercy join movies like Minority Report and Demolition Man in the pantheon of entertaining “future cop” movies, or will it be as doomed as a convicted killer in near-future LA?
Perhaps of even greater concern is how much of a “screen-life” movie it appears to be. Will it be next year’s War of the Worlds, with Chris Pratt doing all of his acting from chair jail?
We’ll find out January 23, 2026, when Mercy hits theaters, including in IMAX and 3D.
Big events like New York Comic-Con give publishers a good reason to tee up some upcoming comics and big events to come throughout the next year. Marvel already revealed their 2025 lineup will include Doctor Doom ruling the planet and an all-new Ultimate Wolverine, but what’s going on with DC? We broke down five of the biggest announcement to come from the publisher, which includes fresh new stories and several returning fan-favorites.
Peacemaker is dipping into comics
Mitch Gerads/DC
Max’s Peacemaker is currently expected to come back for season two sometime next year. To tide you over until then, DC is releasing the show’s first-ever comic book spinoff, Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature!. Tim Seely (Money Shot) and Mitch Gerads (Mister Miracle) will tackle the Vigilante stories, while Rex Ogle and Matteo Lolli handle Eagly’s tales. Set between the show’s two seasons, the Vigilante stories will see the goofy antihero tear his way through the criminal community based on the assumption that something bad’s happened to Peacemaker and Eagly when they’re not home. In Eagly’s story, we find out he and Peacemaker are on a “bromantic” trip to Alaska they forgot to tell Vigilante about, but things take a turn for the worse when their flight is hijacked by supervillains looking to hunt them and the other passengers for sport.
The five-issue Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! kicks off sometime next year.
The Justice League will fight Godzilla fighting King Kong again
DC/Legendary/Toho
It was only last year that DC’s mightiest heroes were caught in the middle of a clash between Godzilla and King Kong. Come 2025, they’ll be back to do the kaiju dance again in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2. Once again by Brian Buccellato and Christian Duce, the sequel sees the League hop over to the MonsterVerse when they learn some of their villains (Lex, Cheetah, and Harley, to name a few) have decided to try and weaponize Titans like Ghidorah and Rodan. You can guess how that’ll go, but hey, Wonder Woman or Batman riding on Mothra sure will be a sight to behold when the book lands in 2025.
Last week, DC’s new Absolute line of comics kicked off with Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman. Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman’s Absolute Wonder Womanlaunches later this week, and Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval’s Absolute Superman arrives in November, but there’s more stories on the horizon: wave two of the line will feature Absolute Flash from Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles, Absolute Green Lantern by Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay, and the newly announced Absolute Martian Manhunter from Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez.
Camp, writer of 20th Century Men and The Ultimates, described Manhunter as “the most radical Absolute reinvention so far.” The book centers on FBI agent John Jones, who has his mind repeatedly invaded by an alien consciousness that just uses “Martian” as a shorthand to describe himself. This is a psychological horror story, and John will “slowly go insane, but in a really fun kind of way. The book is about a complete outsider’s perspective on the world combined with a complete insider’s view of the world.”
As for Absolute Flash and Green Lantern, DC revealed some art from their respective books. The former stars a teen Wally West going up against classic Rogues like Captains Cold and Boomerang, while the latter is an ensemble piece featuring Jo Mullein, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan. All three Absolute books will release in 2025. Also on the docket for 2025 is some kind of crossover between the Absolute and prime DC universes: at the con, Snyder teased a “big, fun event” next fall that “brings a lot of this stuff together.”
Al Ewing said This will be an ensemble book featuring Jo,Hal,John and Guy Gardner! But Hal and Jo Mullein are the main ones in the book! pic.twitter.com/IGGXYnX0n1
At the “Jim Lee and Friends” panel, the artist revealed he and writer Jeph Loeb were reteaming on a sequel to Batman: Hush, which introduced Bruce’s childhood friend Tommy Elliot turned evil lookalike (and bandaged serial killer) Hush. A 20th anniversary re-release in 2022 featured a brand new epilogue, and Hush was recently adapted into one of DC’s animated movies, so a sequel felt almost inevitable. The duo will begin their sequel in March 2025 with Batman #158, seemingly confirming recent rumors that Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez’s current run would be wrapping early next year so the two could take over the main Bat-comic. But before that point, there’ll be a prelude story in November’s Justice League Unlimited #1 to help set the stage for Batman’s next saga.
Hush ain’t the only one making a comeback. The fan-favorite Vertigo imprint is being revived after being retired in 2019, with an emphasis on creator-owned projects. (DC Black Label, which effectively existed as its replacement, will seemingly stick to handling mature takes of the brand’s existing characters.) The first “new” Vertigo book will be a reprint of James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martinez Bueno’s The Nice House on the Lake, with upcoming issues of its current sequel series The Nice House by the Sea to be published under the imprint going forward. At the moment, this is the only book confirmed for the resurrected Vertigo, and executive editor Chris Conroy said more would be revealed in the coming months, along with some “surprises from the archives.”
When you get permission to rule over the DC Universe, what’s the first franchise to take up, up, and away? If you ask DC’s new boss James Gunn, the answer is, of course, Creature Commandos. Wait, creature what-now? Slated to premiere on Max on December 5, Creature Commandos is a new adult-oriented animated series based on a mighty obscure superhero team from DC Comics. On day two at New York Comic Con 2024, series creator James Gunn appeared on the main stage — along with members of the show’s cast — and revealed why Creature Commandos, of all things, is launching the “new” DCU – and what it might foreshadow about the DCU’s future.
Gunn began work on the show entirely of his own volition after the success of his other DC series Peacemaker. “The truth is, I had talked to Max after Peacemaker did so well. I talked to Peter Girardi at WB Animation about creating an animated series,” Gunn explained. “I like the Creature Commandos. I love monsters. I love Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. It just seemed like the perfect thing to do. I wrote the scripts without even having a deal, and I happened to get hired as the head of DC Studios. And I very graciously, thank you self, greenlit the show.”
During the panel, a new two-minute trailer for Creature Commandos premiered to rapturous enthusiasm from the audience. With a vivid art and animation style with deep, bold colors, the trailer introduces each member of the Creature Commandos, voiced by David Harbour (as Eric Frankenstein), Indira Varma (as the Bride), Frank Grillo (as Rick Flagg Sr.), Alan Tudyk (as Dr. Phosphorus), Zoë Chao (as Nina Mazursky), and Sean Gunn (as both G.I. Brobot and reprising his Weasel from The Suicide Squad), as well as all their unique monstrous abilities. The trailer goes hard and heavy on the bloodletting, along with some cameos from other DC characters like Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
“We want this to be very different from what Superman is going to be when that comes out,” Gunn said. “We want Peacemaker to be different from that.”
Gunn also confirmed DC actors will portray their characters across live-action and animation productions. For example: Frank Grillo, who stars as Rick Flagg Sr., will reprise his Creature Commandos role in both Superman and Peacemaker season 2. (Grillo commented that his white hair as Rick Flagg conflicted with his shooting schedule for Paramount’s Tulsa King.)
Name-dropping in-development projects like Supergirl and Lanterns and insisting they will be different too, Gunn clarified “it’s a connected universe, but we’re not imposing any sort of overall aesthetic. And Creature Commandos is definitely its own thing.”
It was only a few months ago that we learned Prime Video, Blur Studios, and Deadpool director Tim Miller had a video game series called Secret Levelin the works. Instead of focusing on one specific game like most shows in the genre do, Secret Level is an anthology focusing on a variety of big triple-A and indie games that’ve released throughout the decades. And now we know the talent that’ll be lending their voices to this endeavor.
During the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con, Prime Video unveiled Secret Level’s star-studded cast. Alongside longtime voice actor Laura Bailey, the main voices include Arnold Schwarzenegger and his son Patrick, Kevin Hart and his daughter Heaven, Keanu Reeves, Ricky Whittle (American Gods), Star Wars alums Emily Swallow and Temuera Morrison, Claudia Doumit (TheBoys), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Clive Standen (Vikings), Michael Beach (The Perfect Couple), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), and The Last of Us stars Gabriel Luna and Merle Dandridge.
As far as who they’re playing or what episodes they’ll be in, Prime Video is keeping that info close to the chest for now. But we know Secret Level’s episodes will focus on games like The Outer Worlds, Spelunky, PlayStation (as a brand), Warhammer 40,000, and Concord, so feel free to map an actor to a game you think they’d be best suited to. While there wasn’t a new trailer shown, there is some new key art below, which shows off the array of titles that’ll be featured during the 15-episode season.
“Daredevil: Born Again” officially has a premiere date: The Marvel Television series will drop on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
The news was announced at the “Marvel Fanfare With CB Cebulski” panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, where “Daredevil: Born Again” stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made a surprise appearance on stage. During the panel, Sana Amanat, series producer and Marvel Studios production and development executive, joined Marvel editor-in-chief Cebulski to talk about filming Season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again” in New York City. They also shared a special sneak peek of the series with the audience.

The official synopsis for “Daredevil: Born Again” reads: “Matt Murdock (Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.”
Along with Cox and D’Onofrio, the series brings back Jon Bernthal as the Punisher; Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page; Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson; and Wilson Bethel as Poindexter. The cast’s newcomers include Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Jeremy Earl and Ayelet Zurer, who takes over the role of Vanessa Marianna-Fisk from Sandrine Holt in the original series.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane serves as an executive producer alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Chris Gary, Christopher Ord and Matthew Corman, and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Episodes are directed by Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, David Boyd and Benson and Moorhead.
New York Comic Con is officially underway, and with it comes the promise of big, big trailers for big, big nerds everywhere. And since “fans of nerd content” came to mean “everyone” over the last decade, it’s hard to overstate how big these trailers can get. Netflix fired the first shot, teasing the Russo brothers–helmed Electric State adaptation, and HBO increased the buzz for The Penguin with a mid-season trailer. Below, the latest trailers, updating all throughout the weekend.
Peyton List returns as Maddie for the second season of School Spirits— she’s still stuck in the after life and trying to figure out the reason for her disappearance on the other side.
The Russo brothers’ upcoming Netflix movie The Electric State, starring populist favorites Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, just released its first trailer. Based on a graphic novel of the same name, the film debuts March 14 on Netflix.
No, for those of you confused, The Penguin is not currently off the air, nor is the season randomly done after only four episodes. Max decided to drop a mid-season trailer for a little intrigue. New episodes will continue to air on Sundays.
Dune: Prophecy’s first official trailer debuted during a panel with star Emily Watson, and, boy, is it filled with ominous statements. “The Imperium is fragile,” they say. “This endangers everything,” they also say. “The Imperium is a circus of fear and rumor.” Enter a sisterhood with a plan. The prequel premieres November 17 on Max.
Two of our best actors with the curliest heads of hair star in Wolf Man, out January 17. Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott play a married couple with a daughter, and the film follows as Abbott gets infected with werewolf-ism. Rawr. The film is out January 17.
Starz shared the Outlander mid-season trailer, and they are going home to Scotland! The second half of the season will include another eight episodes, same as the first half, and, as always, will star Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan. The first half of the season ended on August 11, and the second half begins again on November 22.
If you’re like us, you can never leave a big convention without a poster tube full of goodies. New York Comic Con is later this week and, as one would expect, artists and brands have all sorts of awesome exclusives coming to the event. Sure, there will be all sorts of toys, games, and collectibles at the con—but we gravitate to the limited-edition art. And, just to give you a taste of what’s in store, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorites.
First up, artist Truck Torrence, aka 100% Soft, brings his unique artistic style to the world of Spider-Man. In this brand new, 24 x 36 inch screenprint, we get to see Spidey take on all of his most famous villains—everyone from Sandman and Rhino to Green Goblin, Venom, and even J. Jonah Jameson. Can you spot them all?
The full Spider-Man poster by 100% Soft.
“Spider-Man is one of my favorite superheroes, and his Rogue’s Gallery is, in my opinion, the best set of villains out there,” Torrence told io9. “I wanted to create a print that pays tribute to both them and Spider-Man as a uniquely New York hero.” The print is a run of 200 and costs $60. It’s available at booth 1665 along with some super cool and cute new, exclusive Dumpster Fires. Read about them all here.
Another one of our favorite artists, Jason Edmiston, is bringing his usual excellent array of new art to the convention and you can see it all at booth 2058. We aren’t going to highlight them all but here are just a few standouts. First, Edmiston tackles one of the year’s best genre films, The Substance. “Pump It Up” is an edition of 75 and costs $25.
Sue from The Substance by Jason Edmiston
Released as part of the show, but available online, is the eighth wonder of the world himself: King Kong. 8th Wonder of the World is being released as a signed and numbered timed edition for $250 either at the booth or on Edmiston’s website. It’s as big as Kong too, measuring a whopping 56 x 24 inches.
King Kong by Jason Edmistion
Those are some of our favorite individual artists, but what about galleries? Spoke Art has a ton of awesome stuff coming to booth 1481 but here’s just one… Godzilla by Matt Taylor. Find out about this print and more at this link.
Godzilla by Matt Taylor – Spoke Art
And while we don’t love to talk about Mondo much after what Funko did to the company, I can’t deny that this Goonies poster by Dan Hipp is simply incredible. The 18 x 24 inch print in an edition of 165 costs $60 and it’s available at booth 1000 along with a ton of other stuff. See that here.
The Goonies by Dan Hipp – Mondo
Again, that’s just a small taste of what you’ll find on the floor at New York Comic Con this weekend. It’s at the Javits Center in NYC from October 17-20. Keep an eye on io9 for more coverage.
New York was able to hold its biggest Comic-Con since 2019 last month, and fans certainly turned up for it; around 200,000 people went through the turnstiles between October 6-9 at the Javits Center, many of them cosplayers.
In this gallery you’ll find a collection of some of our favourite cosplay from the event, with highlights ranging from people wearing costumes to people wearing enormous costumes.
First, though, this video recap of the event by Mineralblu! And after that, clicking through the slideshow will be a collection of photos (also taken by Mineralblu), in which you’ll find each cosplayer’s character, series and social media information watermarked on each image.

We post galleries from major cosplay shows all the time, and they’re always excellent, but for the recent New York Comic-Con one photographer wanted to do things a little differently.
Wanting to try something beyond just taking nice photos, veteran photographer Andrew Boyle (disclaimer: I wrote the foreword for his book) thought that for this year’s show he’d try and make the cosplayer “the sole focus” of his work.
“After my cosplay photo book ‘Heroes & Villains’ came out in 2017, I thought I’d relax it up a bit with the subject matter, but it kept pulling me back; the effort, the enthusiasm and the sense of community amongst the costumed fans”, Boyle tells Kotaku. “I shoot in a uniform style inspired by the portraits of Richard Avedon, so that the sole focus is the subject without background distraction.”
“I also work in collage pieces and motion I wanted to integrate a unique hand made feel for each selected subject. For some, I used cut out pieces that referred to the character, others were repetition of shapes, or color blocking with paper and textures. It was a way to differentiate from other cosplay photography, all of which has it’s own approach, and take a different feel to celebrate all the effort and energy the NYCC crowd brings. Plus I love reading the reactions people have to seeing themselves portrayed in such a way.”
The result is this heavily-stylised gallery which, by removing the usual convention background, really lets each cosplayer, their outfit and their performance shine.
