Orlando’s Tele + the Ghost of Our Lord go country

With a career that’s been a long, winding and deeply psychedelic odyssey of reliably unorthodox music, “expect the unexpected” is the rule when approaching the work of Orlando outsider pioneer Matt Kamm. Even so, when reviewing last year’s Crown of Horns EP, released under his longtime vehicle Tele & the Ghost of Our Lord, I thought that describing that work as “house music”would probably be the most outlandish thing I’d ever have to write about him.

    I should’ve known better.

In his latest chameleonic twist, one that finds him inching even closer to becoming Orlando’s own Beck, Matt Kamm has now gone country. Anyone familiar with his work will know that this is way weirder than even Beyoncé or Diplo doing it. While Kamm’s shown lots of freaky folk tendencies, the new Tele & the Ghost of Our Lord double single — “Spite the Moon” b/w “Fast Asleep on the Forest Floor” — is a total plunge into country music.

Over the past several years, Kamm’s been quietly studying country instruments like banjo, mandolin, lap steel and pedal steel. More specifically, he says, “I’ve had an obsession with pedal steel since childhood probably stemming from Santo & Johnny or Dylan’s ‘Lay Lady Lay’ but for whatever reason the instrument always seemed unattainable — both from a technical standpoint and entry-level price point.”

Earlier this year, Kamm finally landed one. Ever since, he’s gone in on it headfirst to indulge a lifelong fantasy. The results are fascinating.

To those who know Kamm’s work, this new release will almost certainly be his most
surprising material to date. After all, probably the strangest thing an eccentric can do is something deeply traditional. These two songs are the most postmodern looks from Kamm ever, without even an ounce of indie abstraction.

“After my last synthesizer jaunt, I felt like I needed to return to the basics of songwriting — start with a great song on guitar then see where it leads me,” he says. .
“Spite the Moon” ambles and twangs through a twilight ride in an easy cowboy trot with some of Kamm’s most forthright and wistful crooning yet. “Fall Asleep on the Forest Floor,” on the other hand, is a lovely rural instrumental that’s a perfect campfire lullaby.

While Kamm showcases his fluency on the full range of roots instruments here, he works them all into evocative and stylistically faithful settings for his budding pedal steel work. (Side note: Pedal steel players have always been in short supply in the local music community, so area Americana players, take note.)

While the new Tele & the Ghost of Our Lord songs now stream everywhere and sit atop TLU’s Spotify playlist, they’ll also be released as a limited-edition cassette through Orlando’s Godless America Records at Kamm’s performance this weekend at Moxie Booking’s Modern Moog 2 showcase (7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, Will’s Pub, $13-$18.)

  • Introducing Velvettica.

    Introducing Velvettica.

    [ad_1]

Emily Krueger has always had Velvettica in her soul. Whether or not she revealed Velvettica immediately was her choice, but for a long time she stayed sheltered. She hid Velvettica deep within her, forging her own career-path as a singer who could effortlessly flow from genre to genre…but something was amiss deep down.

As she grew as an artist and became more in touch with herself, Velvettica couldn’t hide anymore. Sure, Emily Krueger still exists…but a different, more real part of her has also risen to the surface. It’s not merely a stage name, it’s an embodiment of who Emily truly is.

So, when searching for Emily Krueger, you may find that she’s started a new chapter under the name “Velvettica.” And while for some artists, this would indicate an identity crisis…Velvettica has never felt more herself.

In this new era, Velvettica is radiating authenticity. She’s fallen in love, gotten in touch with every single part of herself, and poured it into her new era of music. It’s her most honest revelations yet, leaning on the guitar riffs that her fans love watching on TikTok, and combining her lilting vocals to transport you into a new realm.

Her single, “Telepathic Baddie”, details falling in love with someone and always being in their minds. The sort of telepathy that makes you feel like you’re operating on one brain cell, and with an enchanting beat and Velvettica’s silky vocals…this song is a perfect encapsulation of who Velvettica is as an artist. You can listen to the track here:

Velvettica’s music is a purely transcendentalist experience that shows she’s found her stride. With the beginning of a new chapter, we spoke to Velvettica about the massive year she’s having and how the transition to this new era has been going!

PD: You unveiled your new identity to be Velvettica. What inspired this change and who is the real Velvettica?

I was and still am Emily Krueger. But I’ve completely changed as a person. I was living subconsciously and playing out all the things my parents did. I got to a really dark place and faced death in the eye and decided to rewrite my script.

I suddenly felt so disconnected from the persona/ego I had built up underneath my birth name, and I felt boxed in. I woke up to the fact that I was so much more than that, and had so much more to share on a way deeper level, and knew in order to reconnect with what I felt deep in my soul was dying to be shown, I had to shed all of that ego, and remember who I truly was.

The real Velvettica is my proverbial ‘higher self’. She finds peace through fear, finds the self through letting go of the perceived self, and finds balance through extremes, both light and dark.

PD: When creating “Telepathic Baddie”, how did you channel Velvettica? What was the inspiration for the single?

The song pretty much wrote itself. It was a gift to me really. I wrote it as I was falling in love with an incredible soul. I had just finished a long meditation and was still feeling completely in another realm. In my moments of silence tuning in, my soul quite literally had a conversation with his soul, in another realm of existence. It was omniscient love, and in that soul-to-soul conversation we spoke of manifesting our dream reality. We’re totally all telepathic baddies and once you tune in you’ll find literal superpowers. We’re all psychic. I allowed the universe to funnel through me and it became the pilot of Velvettica.

    VelvetticaLindsey Ruth

PD: When embarking on this new chapter, what was your vision for your sound?

To be honest I didn’t really have a vision. The new sound just happened, and found me rather. I’ve always made pretty much every genre of music, except metal. The first song I made that’s a part of this EP was “Stereo Minds.” It was a new sound for me at the time, but still used elements from everything I’d previously made. It was finally flowing effortlessly. I didn’t really need a vision for it because it was just happening. Then of course once I had consistently made that kinda psychedelic chill rock pop sound for a couple months I started to see the vision that was really given to me.

So if you’re an artist reading this and “finding your sound” consider trying less and just letting it find you.

PD: What’s one thing you want listeners to know about your new era?

The irony is that as much as we could change our identity and choose to reinvent the wheel, we will always be at our core, our true essence. Alongside this new artist project being conceived, I also got married.

My identity changed in the earth realm as well, and the truth is our identity will change and evolve many times on our journey towards the next life. Amidst all the change and forced or chosen identity shifts we experience, the paradox is remembering to remember exactly who we always were, and always will be – an unchanging light. The new era will be much more vulnerable and real and won’t shy away from the taboo, and I definitely want this project to be something that opens people’s minds.

PD: What’s next for you this year? Can we expect even more new music soon from Velvettica?

Most definitely! My 7 song EP ‘Death, Sex & Inheritance’ is out this fall. I’m already working on, and finally collaborating more on the next project and I already can’t wait to show the first singles. I’m in the process of finding the right members to be a part of the band for live shows, and eventually I’d like them to meld into Velvettica’s writing and recording process, becoming an actual band.

  • Designing Our Dream LE SSERAFIM Comeback While We Wait For CRAZY

Designing Our Dream LE SSERAFIM Comeback While We Wait For CRAZY

    [ad_1]

Honeybees, are you ready for LE SSERAFIM Season to take full effect? CHAEWON, SAKURA, YUNJIN, KAZUHA, and EUNCHAE are officially making their comeback with the CRAZY mini-album on August 30th, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us! The title track of their last comeback, ‘EASY,’ was their first-ever song to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., so you already know they’re ready to take on the world this time around.

While we wait for CRAZY to come out, we’ve been reflecting on LE SSERAFIM’s past comebacks and the beautiful albums and visuals they’ve given us over the years. And naturally, we’re daydreaming about what the perfect LSF comeback would be like. Press play on your favorite song they’ve released so far, and join us as we do a little creative directing!

    The Aesthetic

We got our first taste of the CRAZY era with the logo motion video, which shows LE SSERAFIM’s logo being struck by lightning. Is this our first taste of the aesthetic for CRAZY? The main things that jumped out to us in the clip are the halftone, comic-like effect that’s over their logo, the lightning and glitches, the hearts, and the bright colors. It’s kind of giving superhero, so that will be the vibe we go for with our comeback concept.

    The Sound

The CRAZY logo motion video ends with what might be our first teaser of this era’s sound, specifically with a little “da, da, da, da” vocal clip. There’s so much potential there! LE SSERAFIM has played with quite a few sounds throughout their career, from the pop-punk jam ‘No Celestial’ to the Afrobeats-influenced ‘Smart,’ so there’s a lot of room to grow with this comeback. But we need a really powerful energy for a superhero theme, so we’d probably go in a pop-rock direction!

    The Styling

We think a superhero concept would need bold styling, maybe something like LE SSERAFIM did for the Balmy Flex version of EASY! Think of bright colors, unique hairstyles, and flashy accessories that help them channel their superpowers. They’d also have a set of more casual chic outfits for when they need to blend into a crowd, probably in black and white, to draw less attention.

    The Album Inclusions

Let’s be real: the best part of having one of your favorite groups make their comeback is finally getting your hands on a physical album and seeing what cool inclusions you have inside! The hero theme we imagine would have so much potential for a physical CRAZY album, starting with a comic-themed photobook. Inclusion-wise, we’re thinking of your typical gorgeous LE SSERAFIM photo cards with some unique extras: first, a special ID trading card with one of the members that highlights her superpower. Next, a lenticular photocard that goes back and forth between showing one member in normal clothes and showing off her superhero outfit!

    The Title Track Music Video

Finally, it’s time to imagine the music video for our pop-rock ‘CRAZY’ title track! We think it’d be a pretty epic introduction to the superhero storyline, following LE SSERAFIM as they work together on a mission. The opening frames would show a comic book. Then, as the camera zoomed into one of the pages, it’d take us into the book and LSF’s crazy world! They’d battle enemies on rooftops, fly over busy streets, and make it look ‘EASY’ while doing it.

What do you think of our concept for the CRAZY mini-album? Do you think we’re on the right track for what LE SSERAFIM’s new era will bring? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Debbii Dawson Doesn’t Want To End Up Like Emily Dickinson

Debbii Dawson Doesn’t Want To End Up Like Emily Dickinson

    [ad_1]

For her second EP, Debbie Dawson set herself a just about impossible task: figure out how to be human. Yet, the result, How To Be Human, doesn’t purport to have all the answers. Instead, it offers scenes and sentiments of a person simply trying to live in the world — torn between the comfort of solitude and the call of the unpredictable outside world.

One of her major inspirations for the album is Emily Dickinson, she tells me. After grappling with her own reclusive tendencies, Dawson dug into Dickinson’s life and work. In the end, she has resolved not to end up like Dickinson. So she leaned away from her desire to isolate and into her need to create. And we, the audience. are so lucky to reap the benefits.

How To Be Human follows her 2023 debut EP, Learning, a folk-tinged proclamation of her utterly unique singer-songwriter voice. The songs convey the stumbling first-steps of establishing one’s own personhood, filled with musings that are raw and never pedantic. Although the title was exploratory the songs hold clear truths about lessons learned. Dawson’s wisdom is inherited from legendary country songwriters like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline while her ear for melody was honed by hymns and sharpened by classical music. The result is 70s-inspired folk-pop with songs fit for a cinescape. They’re songs of yearning, but also songs for dancing around your bedroom just to remind you that you’re alive.

Her eclectic influences get even more surprising as she tells me about her writing process — sometimes humming over dishes, sometimes inspired by art she’s consuming. Yes, the Dickinson, but also movies like
Shrek. You’ve heard of a wall of sound? Dawson combines her unique musical background, diverse influences, and personal identities to create a tapestry of sound that cocoons its listener and welcomes them into her world.

How To Be Human doesn’t feel like a departure from Learning but a continuation, filled with the frenetic energy of someone who’s been still too long and is yearning for a life beyond their bubble. It’s the pressure, the build-up of energy before the release — which I hope we’ll get to experience in Dawson’s next project.

It’s thanks to this new energy, which manifests in disco-tinged production and anthemic synths, that we see a different side of Dawson as a vocalist, producer, and artist. The lyrics retain their tight intimacy but this nascent sound rattles alongside Dawson’s vibrato in satisfying chord progressions and soaring melodies.

    Debbii DawsonRCA

When Dawson speaks, her answers come like her lyrics: concise and precise, but not at the expense of vulnerability. She reflects on themes like solitude, belonging, and multiplicity in her life and her music with specificity
and universality. She doesn’t fall into cliches — she’s currently listening to Chinese classical music in her spare time, so nothing about her is run-of-the-mill — while also speaking to themes of connection and relatability.

Her groundedness is part of what makes her compelling as an artist, despite her success. She signed to RCA Records in April, joined Orville Peck on part of his Stampede North American Tour, and is slated for festival dates and a slot supporting Suki Waterhouse in September.

Dawson let us in to talk about her EPs, her recent collaboration with Orville Peck, and what’s coming next.

POPDUST: First of all, congrats on the new EP. How are you feeling about it being out in the world?

Debbii Dawson: I’m relieved to have it off my hands. I started some of them, like, a year ago, some of them at the same time as the last EP was being written. It was just about deciding what stories I wanted to tell when. And the sound, too.

POPDUST: The sound really shifts from the first EP to this one. Learning was more folk-inspired, but How To Be Human sounds like ABBA meets Kasey Musgraves. Can you talk through the choices that you were making on both and why you gravitated to this new sound?

Debbii Dawson: When I was trying to find my sound when I first started doing music, I thought I had to pick one lane so as not to confuse people. A lot of that was me actually trying to come to terms with my own identity. And until I did that, the sound didn’t come. So I had to be comfortable being a person in multiple worlds — being a first generation American, being a person of color, growing up in a white town. I had a lot of things to deal with internally. Once I accepted that, the sound came and I realized I didn’t have to pick parts of myself. I could do more than one thing at a time and people would be fine with it.

POPDUST: How did those different parts of your identity impact you as a musician?

Debbii Dawson: Being South Asian, I had a different cultural upbringing and realities than my peers, so my version of what it means to be an American looks different from someone else. Even with other South Asians, it varies so much between us. Musically, I also had so many influences. I grew up with old country music like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline because that’s the western music my parents, who are immigrants, had access to. And then I grew up listening to a lot of hymns and classical music. And I think you can hear all of those present in the stuff I make. And, of course, older songs like ABBA and later, QUEEN, and really amazing musicians really resonated with me.

POPDUST: When did you start picking out the music that you were listening to, and what were you gravitating to?

Debbii Dawson: I had more of a religious upbringing, so I wasn’t exposed to music a lot of other kids my age were. So I started listening to music for myself probably in middle school. I listened to Coldplay for the first time, and John Lennon, and a lot of Muse. And because I loved classical music too, it was really cool how these people could take from their influences, like blues influences — and I know Coldplay had a lot of influence from hymns as well — and see them make something palatable for people.

POPDUST: In the first EP, it feels like you’re on the outside looking in, but then the second EP is trying to bring in everyone else on the inside. What themes do you gravitate to when you write?

Debbii Dawson: These EPs were really inspired by my own story and by Emily Dickinson, actually. She’s an American poet, who was a recluse and wrote all these amazing pieces of poetry and wasn’t published until after she died. I also have very reclusive tendencies. There was a period of time in my life where I kind of just retreated from the world and was kind of over it, and didn’t leave home for a while — and this is all pre-pandemic. Around this time I started writing as well and reading Emily Dickinson’s poems, and thinking about her life. I was like, I don’t know if I want to end up the way she did. So I decided I could change the ending if I wanted to, so her story really inspired me. So yeah, the last two EPs are written from the perspective of a recluse, and, like you mentioned, from the outside looking in, and also from the inside looking out, and maybe reasons that led that person to that place, and reasons for leaving and trying to change their situation.

POPDUST: What drew you to songwriting?

Debbii Dawson: I wrote poetry when I was a child. I didn’t start writing songs seriously until maybe eight years ago. I’m not the most expressive person, so it was a way for me to process thoughts and feelings privately. Then it just turned into this thing and I’ve been working on it since. It can be really scary. Songwriting is really therapeutic, but when it’s done publicly, it’s a little invasive. So it’s kind of scary. For me personally, it’s something I feel like I have to do. I have to get it off my chest. Like I said, I’m not the most expressive person, and so this is the only way I know how to do it. It’s really helpful, getting messages from people who listen to my music saying how much it impacts them, too. knowing I can write some words down and have an impact on someone is really, really special.

POPDUST: I’m sure your songwriting has changed in the past eight years, but do you think that it’s changed in the past few years between the two EPs?

Debbii Dawson: How To Be Human was done over a period of about a year, so it was a longer amount of time. I think “Solitude” and “Eulogy for Nobody” were written the same day. I wrote “Eulogy for Nobody” — super depressing song — on my floor in my room, and brought that into a session I had a couple of days later. I didn’t know if I wanted to work on that one or “Solitude,” which I had the riff for. And people I was with were like, Let’s do both.

And this one, I produced. I did production on a song last time, but it’s just a guitar. But this one, I did a little bit more intense production, so it was fun to kind of dive into that. And I started “Solitude” last year, but up until a couple days before I turned it in, I was tweaking and adding arrangements at the very last minute. So it was a very fluid process. My collaborators are great, open minded people, creative people like super fun to work with.

POPDUST: How have the people you’ve collaborated with and worked with stretched you or challenged your own instincts?

Debbii Dawson: They’re so good at what they do. I love that they make me feel comfortable to create, which is super important in the creative process. I think I can be a perfectionist and they help me realize things don’t need to be perfect. There’s a good perfectionism and bad perfectionism. And they’re helping me with that. And then it’s always really refreshing to hear other perspectives and other angles on how people approach things.

During the first EP, I was also more timid in rooms. I would go into the studio and maybe there’s a couple of other people in there too, and I was more shy. It takes me a minute to warm up to strangers, and so I’m still working on it, but I’m more comfortable being vocal about what I want to say, how I want to say it, if I don’t like something. Having more confidence this time around, made all the difference.

POPDUST: You collaborated with Orville Peck for his album Stampede. How does collaboration impact sound when you’re blending your sound and your style with someone else’s?

Debbii Dawson: With Orville, we wrote the song together. Before going into the studio to write with him, I was thinking about what through lines we had. He’s this amazing, fabulous cowboy. And I love the older country songs I mentioned, so those old country duets seemed like such a great connection. Finding the connectors between both of us, I think, allows two different people to still authentically be themselves, without one having to change the other. And I got to do a little tour with him which was so great. His fans are so welcoming and warm.

Listen to “Back At Your Door” by Orville Peck and Debbii Dawson here:

POPDUST: Connecting to people and connecting to fans is so special. How do you keep that alive on stage?

Debbii Dawson: It’s a different connection. I was super shy. I didn’t know if I could perform live. I wanted to throw up thinking about it, but I remember doing my first show last year and realizing that I really loved it, and it was different when people are connecting with the music. It’s not about me standing and having people look at me — it’s about what I’m bringing to them. It’s like, here look at this thing. So it’s been nice to connect with people in that way. It’s not me and listeners connecting, but me, the listeners, and the music. So it’s less scary.

POPDUST: So you’ve built this community. Was there any sort of trepidation about releasing this new EP with a new sound, about how people would receive it?

Debbii Dawson: Yeah, that’s always there. I want people to like my music but you never know. But I also make music because I get uncomfortable if I don’t do it. So there’s always a hope that as long as it’s true to who I am — and if anyone else makes music, if it’s true to who you are — it’ll be easier to accept if it’s new.

POPDUST: What goes into putting together each EP and deciding on the direction it goes?

Debbii Dawson: I try to be cohesive. I can be a little chaotic and scattered, so I try my best to find the through line of things. I’m also a really big gut feeling person, so I try to lean into that as well. I really value the wisdom of my peers and my team. So I’ll pick people’s brains and then sit by myself for a while and chew on it. But sometimes it’s so random. Like “Happy World” was actually super inspired by Shrek.

POPDUST: No way. The “Holding Out for a Hero” in Shrek 2?

Debbii Dawson: No, it was when Shrek and Donkey enter Duloc and those puppets are singing the “Welcome to Duloc” song. I wanted to write a song that felt like that. Like it’s this perfect place, but something’s not quite right here. So you never know where it’s coming from.

POPDUST: Do you have any favorite songs of all the music you’ve worked on?

Debbii Dawson: I love “Happy World.” That was so fun to make. “Downer” was also really fun to make. I remember we all couldn’t stop smiling when we were recording that in the studio. “Solitude,” too is just a super fun song. Yeah, so many favorite children.

POPDUST: It’s a good sign, when it’s impossible to pick. What do you hope people take from this EP — and from your music in general?

Debbii Dawson: I hope that when people listen to my music, they know that they’re not alone and what they’re feeling or experiencing — or if they were people like me who grew up in a marginalized community — that they feel like they have somewhere to belong. And I hope that it stretches them creatively, and they know that anything is possible. That there’s no limits to what they want to create and how they want to do it.

POPDUST: You said you’re writing. What’s coming next? What can we expect down the line?

Debbii Dawson: I like to keep people on their toes. I think you can expect, without saying too much, more color. Yeah, more color.

How mgk’s Discord Server Celebrated Hotel Diablo: Floor 13 Edition

    [ad_1]

There are very few, if any, fandoms that are as passionately supportive of their favorite artist as EST are of mgk. And that passion is part of why we got his latest album release, Hotel Diablo: Floor 13 Edition, to begin with! He first dropped Hotel Diablo in 2019 and it has since become a beacon for not only what he has to offer, but the impact his music has on the people who listen. It’s full of unapologetic, sometimes devastating, honesty and courage that has inspired so many of us to push through any hard times we face.

Knowing how special Hotel Diablo is, Kells wanted to celebrate its fifth anniversary by giving us a new deluxe edition complete with remixes, demos, and even a new song, ‘El Pistolero!’ But first, he invited us to “come and find [ourselves]” with an innovative Discord event that brought the world of the album to life and encouraged EST to come together. We could stay up until 5:3666 talking about how fun it was, but for now, let’s stick to a simple recap.

    “Meet me on Floor 13…”

The festivities kicked off when mgk’s Discord, which is usually themed with different channels named after his various albums, transformed into a hotel thanks to the engaging mod team. Specifically Hotel Diablo, of course! Once you checked in with the Keymaster bot, you stepped into the elevator… AKA a channel called Elevator that presented you with the first riddle you had to solve.

Your goal throughout the challenge for a chance to receive a prize that’s sweeter than ‘Candy’: complete 12 (or more? Hey, it’s a big hotel.) riddles to reach the ‘Floor 13’ channel. Each correct answer brought you to the next “floor” channel, or even a side channel away from the main path. Questions ranged from references to songs like ‘Waste Love,’ to nods to the featured artists on Hotel Diablo, and even superfan fun facts like the notebook mgk used to write the album. All the answers were available on the internet, but we were definitely breaking a sweat trying to figure them all out!

“Welcome to Hotel Diablo, in this building I’m the honcho…”

If and when you reached Floor 13, you officially made it to the highest ranks of the competition! The first few people to finish got merch and custom color roles within the Discord to make their chatting experience more fun. But anyone who completed the hotel challenge also got one pretty cool perk: access to an exclusive Q&A session with mgk himself! And you may have even seen or heard a few members of our hive there… 👀

Before the Q&A, everyone on Floor 13 had the chance to submit their very own question to ask Kells. A handful were selected and things were all set for ‘El Pistolero’ himself to pop in, with the people whose questions were chosen getting to ask him personally! We learned so much about the creation of Hotel Diablo, his favorite memories from the era, and so much more. We also got to hear one of his cats meowing repeatedly in the background, which was hands-down one of the best moments of our lives.

    “Written in history…”

We’re so glad that mgk made the release of Hotel Diablo: Floor 13 Edition so engaging! It was a beautiful testament to how impactful the album has been and how much Kells has grown over the years. Did you get to join in the festivities? ‘Guess’ The Charli xcx And Billie Eilish Song Equivalents Of These Iconic Pop Culture Bras

    [ad_1]

Three million, not just the rolling hits of growing viewers that have phoned up Charli xcx at the familiar hunting ground of the ‘360’ music video, laced with It girls and sprawling dark grey walls. But also, the number of flinging bras sprung into a girl power mountain (false, it was 10,000 per Charli’s tweet, but c’mon, it’s a lot). One that takes silkily murmured Billie Eilish—of which, this is her first feature with another artist ever— to whiz through on the upgrade of her vehicle collection: a bulldozer! Toss in a couple of cheeky, pick-up lyrics, “Charli likes boys, but she knows I’d hit it,” another callback to ‘360’ through a visual description of the single cover and a whole lot of fun. And the girls are serving up the ‘Guess’ remix produced by The Dare in a tiny bow.

What’s also cool about their flirtatious team-up is that the undergarments seen in the music video are all being donated to I Support The Girls. It started up in neither Bra City nor Tokoyo, a fondness by Charli that Billie picked up. In this case, we wouldn’t mind that luxury souvenir either. But a basement in Maryland, ISTG. The charity looks to support women and girls experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and other ill-fitting scenarios. Now, they’re not just in the States but also have affiliates around the globe, making a significant impact!

    A Bra Feature

We’ve decided to have an iconic battle-off between Charli and Billie vs. bras in pop culture. Playing true to the selected tune for the techno-spliced neon lights club mix, we’re getting you to ‘Guess’ the song from either artist that goes with the bra. We’ll give you some facts about the unmentionables. Then, by using the toggle, you can either throw a spicy garment in your online cart to get it right or have to clean it out for getting it wrong.

    Madonna’s Cone Bra

A spectacle of pink and ring-tight curls, Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour was one of her most expensive—the stage featuring Catholic stained glass murals and dozens of flaming candles came to $2 million—and deliciously stylish. A lush pink conical bra was underneath a pinstripe blazer. It was crafted by Jean Paul Gaultier, who was designated as the head costume designer. Until now, corsets were known primarily in the coquette world as soft against luscious curves. This garment was gender-forming, tucked over the top of trousers. It has since shaped what other performers wear, dabbling into the sexiness we see in various cuts and fabrics today.

Of course, it’s ‘LUNCH,’ the main course of Billie’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT era. With a wicked synth and a surrounding baseline, Billie appears in her usual oversized sports jerseys and chunky jewelry, providing that masculine touch while juxtaposed with feminine seduction, dangling cherries, and impish lyrics. The combination of the two sparks the androgynous fashion in Madonna’s conical bra.

    Mean Girl’s Bra

The mention of Mean Girls’ ring leader, Regina George, serves up the biggest clue. Everyone remembers joining the rank of spokesperson upon flipping through our own wardrobe and cutting out an old tank top come Halloween 2004. Then, the resurgence after Reneé Rapp not only crossed out Broadway iteration but also film musicals. Anyway, in a hilariously savage skit done by Cady Heron, Regina turns the snip in her favor by strutting out of the changing rooms in seeable purple nips.

Duh, our numbered track title goes to Charli’s ‘360.’ Everyone and their cool mom know Regina would’ve joined the other Internet It girls in the music video!

    Little Mermaid’s Seashells

You never wanted something to be more ‘Part Of Your World’ than Ariel’s purple shell bra. Interestingly, in the Hans Christian Andersen iteration, she was nude or clothed in sea foam. Since the audience is children, Disney decided to go with something a bit more modest.

Ariel’s quest to find her voice (literally through breaking the shell around Ursula’s neck and figuratively by discovering freedom in becoming a human) is quite similar to Billie’s identity questioning sprawlings on ‘What Was I Made For?’ Made for Margot Robbie’s Barbie, Billie relates to the character upon seeing shrunk replicas of her various getups throughout the years.

How many bras did you rack up in your online cart? We’ll excuse you if you restart at various times to have it at its brim. Donating your winning collection to I Support The Girls would be even more cute! You can also stream BRAT and rave about the remix on our various social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Hence, others are not only entertained by these upcoming receivers of the Grammy’s Best Pop Duo/Group Performance bracket but also gain familiarity with the charity.

We Definitely Weren’t Sombr in LA!

    [ad_1]

Picture this: It’s a Sunday night, windows down, driving down the 405, and you’re on your way to see Sombr play a show at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood on the last night of his tour. We’d never deep-dived into this artist before that afternoon, but man– He had us tearing up with the first song on his Spotify, ‘would’ve been you‘. With over 23 million streams on just that one song, it was a true understatement for the show we would get when we arrived.

He opened the show with ‘i’ll remember tonight,’ and the room just lit up! The stage presence, the ambiance, and the literal coolness that radiated off of him were phenomenal. Despite it being a Sunday night, everyone in that room was ready to party.

One of our favorite parts of the show was only a few minutes in. ‘Savior,’ one of our top 5 Sombr songs, is a powerful, gut-wrenching song about losing someone you thought was going to be your everything and your forever. The energy in the room shifted for those three minutes, and everyone in their room held their hands up towards him. You’d feel and understand, in that very moment, that this person’s music saved so many people.

‘Savior’ has this way of encapsulating you with the harmonies and the choir background vocal that just makes you freeze and enjoy this moment. You’re surrounded by the people you love and people you don’t even know, but this bond, this singer in front of you, is what ties you guys together.

Sombr continued on the show, playing banger after banger, a mixture of his newest singles plus some of his top songs from his first EP in another life. With a voice as smooth as silk and a stage presence as spirited as his, this concert goes down as one of our top 5 in 2024.

  • Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To This Friday

Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To This Friday

    [ad_1]

How is it already August? As we enter the final month of the summer, we’re gearing up for even more new music to come our way. It’s the month of new albums from stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, and more…which means singles will be left and right.

But that’s not all, we’re shifting into the fall releases for new music…and fans are speculating that a certain Taylor Swift will re-release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) very soon. So, there’s a lot to look forward to with the quickest summer ever coming to an end.

And while we’re still in the middle of a heat wave, I’m looking forward to heading to the beach and getting some much-needed vitamin D…but that means I’m going to need a good playlist filled with new music released this week. Luckily for everyone involved, I create a weekly playlist filled with just that!

I find the best of the best when it comes to new songs. I listen to new albums, read through every press release, and search every Spotify playlist for what’s actually worth listening to. Plus, the playlists aren’t terribly lengthy…so it’s a really manageable listen too!

We’ve already wasted enough time here, so I want to get to the point. To enjoy a nice weekend, you need a weekend playlist. Let’s get listening!

Charli XCX, Billie Eilish- “Guess (Remix)”

If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that Charli XCX’s BRAT album inspired our summer. You may have heard about having a BRAT Summer, which includes partying as much as humanly possible and living your life…but Charli isn’t finished teaching us how to be a BRAT. Now, she’s partnered up with an unexpected collab: Billie Eilish.

The remix is sure to be a hit. “Guess” on its own was enough to send Charli into the mainstream, but adding Billie’s flirtatious lyricism to the mix makes it a surefire radio play. It’s both pop and house, which is super timely considering a few popstars are heading to house music. BRAT summer continues, Billie style.

Jessie Murph ft. Teddy Swims- “Dirty”

Two powerhouse vocalists join to create a soulful, cutting breakup anthem about a partner who has cheated on you. It’s every bit as vengeful and catchy as you’d imagine. It fully sums up when you’re done with a partner who’s treated you wrong while showcasing the vocal prowess of Jessie Murph and Teddy Swims.

With two big names in the music industry whose star power continues to grow exponentially, “Dirty” is an exciting development from the pair. Ahead of Jessie Murph’s debut album, this is just the beginning for two rising stars in the industry.

    Gryffin- PULSE

With new album, PULSE, Gryffin goes back to his house roots. He gears up with heavy hitter collaborations like John Newman, Rita Ora, Whethan, and more, all while creating catchy dance tracks that fit perfectly with the summer. An album made to be played on the dancefloor while surrounded by friends and music lovers alike, there’s not one song that’s a skip.

PULSE is a great listen for those who need to start a pregame off the right way. With lots of synths, great beat drops, and strong lyricism, Gryffin continues to blaze his own path in creating pure EDM with his own, fun twist.

    Maren Morris- “Intermission”

Maren Morris has a cathartic, lilting voice that carries through her EP, Intermission. Surprisingly honest, a delight to listen to throughout its entirety…Intermission is a loving, honest submission into Morris’ catalogue. She’s impressive, but we already knew that. And that’s what makes her music so easy to listen to. About the EP, Morris states,

“Here’s my heart journey and gamut of emotions packaged into 5 songs. Covering loss, catharsis, sexuality and gratitude, I hope you hear the light coming back to me in them and somewhere perhaps see it mirrored in you.

    RUFUS DU SOL- “Lately”

“Lately” is the first track from legendary EDM group, RUFUS DU SOL, since 2021 when they released “Music is Better.” Now, three years later, they’re here to remind us what makes them an essential group in music. Their sounds are light, sending you straight to a rooftop in the city somewhere.

A borderline transcendental experience, “Lately” is both calming and upbeat at the same time. Soft in all the right places and explosive in others. If you needed a lesson on how the band can create magic in a song, listen to “Lately.”

    Carlita, SG Lewis- “The Moment”

Carlita is on the verge of her big moment. With her debut album coming in November, Sentimental, and a subsequent leading single with SG Lewis to showcase it, there’s no stopping her. “The Moment” is a thrill from the very start, combining every little skill Carlita has learned along the way of her already illustrious career with SG Lewis’ ability to make any song a hit.

If this gives us a taste of the new album, then we’re in good hands. “The Moment” is everything we’ve been wanting in a song so far.

    David Guetta, AFROJACK- “Raving”

Two titans in the industry: David Guetta and AFROJACK have united to release their highly anticipated new single, “Raving.” The song title is a little self-explanatory, but it makes you want to go rave. It’s fun, and specifically in time for BRAT Summer. We’re loving the hard house music lately, and this track is made by some of the best in the EDM industry.

“Raving” is what we needed to close out the summer: an electric single that gets you moving. It’s a fun track that just keeps getting better as time goes on.

    Sonny Fodera, Jazzy, D.O.D- “Somedays”

Sonny Fodera has already made many hits, but this song proves he can do it time and time again. It’s no shock that his production is borderline seamless and his collaborative efforts are always a success. “Somedays” is no different. It’s fun-filled and captivating, replay worthy even.

Alongside Jazzy and D.O.D, Sonny Fodera pairs vocal talent with bass-heavy beats. A summer anthem without a doubt, “Somedays” will be a great addition to any playlist.

  • Interview: Chrissy Costanza’s New Music Deserves More Than Just ‘7 Minutes’ Of Your Time

Interview: Chrissy Costanza’s New Music Deserves More Than Just ‘7 Minutes’ Of Your Time

    [ad_1]

We at The Honey POP are Chrissy Costanza stans. We’ve been listening to Against The Current for years. But now, Chrissy has released her own solo music! So we’re so stoked to bring you an exclusive interview with Chrissy Costanza herself! We talk all about her new music, what it’s like releasing solo music, and more. Let’s jump right in!

    Her Solo Career

You’ve been writing songs with Against The Current for over 10 years. What did you find the most difficult from the process of writing for yourself as a solo artist? On the same wavelength, did you find things that made it a bit easier?
The most difficult thing was learning to trust my instincts to determine whether something was good or not. In Against The Current, I could rely on my bandmates as barometers of whether we got it right or not. However, one thing that was easier this time was the lack of pressure to live up to a prior release. In ATC, we are acutely aware that any new music will always be held up and compared to the music the fans are already so attached to. In doing this project, there’s nothing to compare to, so I was able to create freely.

If you could choose any color to describe your new solo music, which would it be?
Crimson. I’ve always been a “red” type of girl overall, but specifically for this project, it feels like a dark, blood-red crimson.

Her New Single, ‘7 Minutes In Hell’

Congratulations on your first solo release! ‘7 Minutes In Hell’ is such a powerful song; what made you want to release it as your first solo single?’
‘7 minutes in Hell’ was the very first song I wrote when I went into the studio with the idea to begin creating solo music. Even as I wrote more songs, this one felt like it best embodied the world I wanted to create: a little bit dark, a lot of fantasy, and questioning what’s good or bad.

‘7 Minutes In Hell’ already establishes a very unique and specific aesthetic. What inspired you to take this route? What other aesthetics do you think can be related to your work?
‘7 Minutes In Hell’ for sure establishes a unique aesthetic, and my inspiration for it came from my love for fantasy. It’s been a dream of mine for a very long time to create a body of work inspired by a fantasy world. I drew a lot from fantasy books I’ve read, playing DnD, video games, etc., so I really wanted to bring those loves into my music as a visual component.

What was it like working with such a prolific director Ryan Valdez, and how did you come up with the concept for the ‘7 Minutes In Hell’ music video?
It was amazing. We’ve worked together before a couple of times, which is why we knew we had to get Ryan on board for this project! He directed the ‘Weapon’ video for ATC, which is one of my all-time favorites. Jade and I had already started conceptualizing the video before, and then when we brought Ryan on. He just completely took it to a whole new level. He’s also incredible at VFX, which made so much of the video possible.

Speaking of the aesthetic, there are a lot of ways you could’ve portrayed the lyrical theme of ‘7 Minutes In Hell’ in the music video. What made you choose the fallen angel route? How did the MV concept/story come to be?
Aside from just the obvious correlation to Heaven & Hell as the inspiration behind the song, the fallen angel holds a lot of significance to the project overall. I’ve always put a lot of pressure on myself to fulfill the expectations of others, and it often felt like I was constantly trying to balance on the pedestal I was placed on top of. The idea of doing this project, was claiming something that was my own and didn’t serve anyone but myself, which felt like a fall from grace in a way.
But with the bloodied and waxen wings, as you see in the video, the story is meant to show you that I was never meant to be this angel after all. Heavy is the head that bears the halo, apparently! The concept came from just talking through these ideas with my manager and creative partner, Jade, and our director Ryan, who helped bring these ideas to life. I knew I wanted to tell the story through the lens of dark romance, so I could have someone who could actually represent that devilish character as opposed to it just being a voice in my head.

‘7 Minutes In Hell’ is a play on the childhood kissing in one’s closet game. What game most brings back nostalgic memories?
I actually never actually played 7 Minutes in Heaven…I was not that cool back then. But, if we’re talking party games and not video games, I will probably have to go with my family’s classic holiday game—Name That Tune! My mom and uncle completely dominate, though, and can name almost any song from the 70s or 80s within a second.

Being A Female Vocalist In The Pop Punk/Adjacent Scene

Female voices and representation in the alternative scene are super important. How have you navigated being a female vocalist in a male-dominated space? Have you ever felt like an outcast or on the outside of the scene, and do you have any advice for aspiring female artists on dealing with those feelings?
I have to give it to my parents for raising me to truly believe I could do anything if I worked hard for it. I refuse to acknowledge the barriers in front of me and have just bulldozed my own path. It’s important for me to recognize the collective effort of all the unbelievable female artists who have come before me and who are killing it now that we keep battering down those walls to open the way for future generations of female artists. For any aspiring female artists, I would remind you that whatever barrier is in your way is inconsequential when faced up against your passion and determination. YOU are more powerful as long as you believe it!

Her Upcoming Spin The Bottle Tour

We know how much you love touring, and we can’t wait to see what you have in store for us! What are you looking forward to the most for these performances?
I am really excited about this tour because it’s so unique. I’ve never done anything like it before. We’re working really hard to make this show a memorable experience for our fans. To give you a sneak peek into the tour, we’re planning to blend our sets, have spinning wheels where fans could potentially pick what songs we play, or win items at the merch, and maybe even have some themed nights! I can’t wait to hit the road with the VOILÁ guys, who have quickly become some of my closest friends. I love and admire them so much, and I’m honored to be touring with them. And I cant wait for you guys to experience this.

Image source: Courtesy of The Syn

What will the 7 minutes before the opening night of your first solo tour look like?
Probably just a TON of panic. I really love playing live shows, but I’m so hard on myself. I know I’ll just be marinating in the stress of doing a great job and singing these songs right for the first time! Also…making my gummy bear tea!

In addition to your upcoming tour with VOILÁ, Against the Current is playing When We Were Young! Are there any artists you’re dying to see?
There are so many artists I’m dying to see. I was late to the scene growing up, so I have never seen many of my favorite artists before. I’m most excited about The Starting Line, Jimmy Eat World, Say Anything, and A Day to Remember.

    What’s Next

Are there any sneak peeks or insight you can give us into what’s coming next in terms of your solo project?
I have a big announcement coming with the next song drop!

Last but not least, is there anything you want to share about your solo project (or anything else) that we haven’t touched on yet?
Really, I’m just relieved and feel crazy grateful for how unbelievable the fans have been to me. It was a mildly terrifying idea to be doing something out of ATC that wasn’t just a feature or collaboration, and I was worried about how people would react, but the love I’ve felt has made me cry multiple times already. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I will never take it for granted, so if you’re reading this or listened to the song or came to a show – THANK YOU!

We’d like to thank Chrissy Costanza for taking the time to chat with us! What do you think of her new single, ‘7 Minutes In Hell,’ and do you have any plans to go to her solo tour? Let us know in the comments, on Facebook, Instagram, or by tweeting us @thehoneypop

Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

    [ad_1]

If you’re anything like us, then the name Andrew McMahon is a staple when you think of the music that has soundtracked your life. From Something Corporate to Jack’s Mannequin to Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Andrew has quite the discography in his back pocket. We were lucky enough to get to chat with Andrew all about Something Corporate reuniting, releasing ‘Death Grip,’ and now ‘Happy,’ as well as going on tour!

    Stream ‘Happy’ now!

Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today! To start us off, how would you sum up who you are as an artist to anyone who is going to dive into your music for the first time?
First and foremost, I’m a lyric-focused songwriter. I’m trying to tell stories with my songs and to tackle the conflicts and questions that arise in my daily life. I get a lot of joy from experimenting with sounds in a studio setting. While there is a pretty clear, pop-minded approach to my writing, you’ll hopefully identify a diverse palate of sounds and arrangements throughout my recordings.

You’ve been a part of so many projects over the course of your career (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). How has your creative process changed as you move between projects?
I think my process has become a lot more collaborative. The more time you spend making things, the easier it is to articulate what you want and the more fun it is to translate everyone’s ideas into the work.  I’m far less obsessed with the outcome these days and so much more interested in digging deep with collaborators and going on an adventure in the studio and on the stage.

Something Corporate is officially back! What made you want to reach out to your old bandmates and get the ball rolling working together again?
I had the band out for a surprise set during my birthday show a couple of years back, and the vibe was so good we decided to get back together properly for the When We Were Young fest. There was such a beautiful energy at those shows and, for the five of us, there was palpable joy being back in practice and hanging out in dressing rooms and laughing together. The shows were such a pure connection between us as band members and the audiences we were playing for that we decided to book more and keep the party rolling.

Working with Something Corporate this time around comes about a bit differently, as you’re working as Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. What has coming from the mindset of the art you’ve been making brought to working with the band again?
Working with other projects has made me a better collaborator and it’s given me a real appreciation of the unique chemistry of Something Corporate. There is something magical about the bond we share, having grown up learning to play music together as kids. I am able to fully appreciate and celebrate the rarity of that connection now and it’s made this reunion a really peaceful and joyful moment in my life and I think the other guys’ as well.

‘Death Grip’ is the first single back! Were there other songs that were completed that you chose between to get to this track? What was it about this track that made you guys want it to be your comeback?
‘Death Grip‘ happened really organically. I wrote it in Nashville a month or two before we left for tour. I loved the song and wanted it out into the world. The decision wasn’t made through the lens of this is your comeback track. It was made out of love for the song and the band being excited to be back in the studio together. The song itself is about letting go, receiving life as it comes, and giving back what the universe gives to you. It gave us this song, and we gave it back.

Upon crafting ‘Death Grip’ could you automatically tell what you wanted the live performance of that song to look like?
Not necessarily. I think the biggest shift for me post-Something Corporate has been letting the music evolve in the studio first and then crafting the show separately. ‘Death Grip‘ was very much created through that process. Hence, the Wilderness/SoCo Collab. The production of the next single that’s coming out was approached a little more like a traditional Something Corporate song, and on that one, we will flip the collaboration order to SoCo/Wilderness to reflect that.

You guys just kicked off the Out Of Office Tour. What can fans expect from these shows? Are we going to be getting unreleased music played?
The show itself has a beautiful production incorporating video that weaves in moments from the early days and I think does a beautiful job of connecting fans to the band’s history while creating beautiful new memories to hang on to once you leave. The nearly two-hour set manages to cover the majority of our catalog with some deep cuts from night to night. We also have two new songs that will be out by the time we get to the second leg of the tour, and we will be throwing one of those in per night going forward. We’re really proud of both of them.

The Out Of Office Tour isn’t a typical tour since you’ve said that you’re all having to work around your current jobs. What’s been the hardest and most rewarding parts of touring now compared to back when you only had to focus on SoCo?
Honestly, I’ve been hoping to reimagine the way I live, work, and tour for some time now. The way we structured these dates has afforded me and the band the opportunity to play for lots of fans and have incredible weekends together while still making it home to take care of our families and the careers we’ve built since moving on from Something Corporate in ‘05. The other guys would be able to speak more to the challenges, I’m sure, as some of them are definitely juggling work fields outside of music.

Let’s talk about your partnership with Big Loud Rock! How did that come about? And how has that unfolded for you thus far?
The truth is I’m pretty cagey when it comes to record deals these days. After Tilt came out, I was pretty hell-bent on stepping back from music for a bit and seeing where the wind blew. The day I wrote ‘Death Grip’ I was so excited by it. I started sending music around, and the Big Loud guys were so genuinely stoked about the song and the potential of releasing more that they made me a really fair deal based on mutual trust, and the rest is history. It’s early still but working with them has been a breath of fresh air. So many labels these days simply obsess over data and TikTok and make all their decisions based on fear. These guys love music and building artful campaigns around their releases. It has really been a joy to work with them.

The Holiday From Real cruise kicks off this fall! Obviously, we and all the other fans are so excited. But what aspects are you most excited about?
Playing shows with all of my favorite musicians and friends on a single weekend is going to be incredible. I know people look at these projects as separate entities, and, in many ways, they are, but for me, it’s my life and my music. Bringing that all together in one place, especially a vacation setting, just feels right to me.

Now that the single is out and the tour is underway, what does the rest of 2024 look like for you? What can fans expect?
We’ll be dropping our next single, ‘Happy,’ on July 26, and I have high hopes for that song. It’s about to get busy with more regular shows and lots of travel, but I’m ready for it. We built this show to celebrate the magic that found me and my bandmates in my parent’s garage back in 1998 and the beautiful years of music that followed. I just want people to feel alive at these shows, to use this music as a time machine and make contact with the moments in their lives when this music was the soundtrack. Most importantly, I want fans to walk away with a new formative memory of all of us doing what we love most. Giving ourselves over completely to music for a couple of hours and singing these songs together. I want it to be visceral.

  • Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To Friday

Your Weekend Playlist: New Music To Listen To Friday

    [ad_1]

Hot summer nights, mid July, baby! Yes, that’s right. It’s the middle of the summer and we’re smack dab in the epicenter of a heat wave. No one can seem to shake the heat, not even the rain is helping.

And while I’m scurrying off to the beach somewhere, you may be gearing up for a cross-country road trip…or a rooftop bar somewhere in the city…or a night in with your friends. Regardless of everyone’s weekend plans, it’s imperative that we have a good playlist to listen to this weekend.

That’s where I come in! I round up all of the new music released this week and pick out a few great songs to put into a Weekend Playlist. That way, you don’t have to do all the work of searching through a bunch of new playlists in order to find the songs that are actually worth listening to.

This week is no different from the rest, another busy week trying to figure out which song will top the charts and compete with songs like “Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey and “Please, Please, Please” by Sabrina Carpenter for Song of the Summer. With so many new songs out, it makes the odds even greater that you’ll find something you like.

So, without further ado, let’s get listening!

    Wallows- “Bad Remake”

Fans have been asking for Wallows to release “Bad Remake” for years. Ever since the band was doing live sessions for their debut album, Nothing Happens, which just celebrated its five year anniversary. Now, as the band releases an exclusive vinyl for its anniversary, “Bad Remake” is officially out for the world to hear.

The song is the epitome of surf rock: dreamy, nostalgic, and equally catchy. It’s perfect for summer, sending you straight to the beaches of California. Something about the song sends you back to the 60’s, when The Beach Boys were ever-so-popular…but at the same time, “Bad Remake” is a sign that Wallows has always had their sound figured out, and it will always work.

    Glass Animals- “Show Pony”

Glass Animals long-awaited album, I Love You So F***ing Much, is finally here alongside single “Show Pony.” The song itself is classic Glass Animals sound, the one that made us fall in love with hit song “Heat Waves.” However, “Show Pony” has the same makings of a banger that everyone will love.

It’s the tale of a relationship from start to finish. It’s blunt and almost heartbreaking, but is masked with a melodic beat and lead singer Dave Bayley’s unique vocals that make it an exciting beginning to an even better album.

    MABEL- “Female Intuition”

A leading voice in R&B right now, MABEL can twist and turn her smooth vocals throughout any song and it sounds incredible. Her newest song, “Female Intuition” is the badass Destiny’s Child-esque renaissance we’ve all been yearning for. It’s empowering, sexy, and strong.

We certainly don’t have enough celebrated female R&B artists in the game right now…and MABEL knows how to push boundaries in the best way with her music. “Female Intuition” is just another reason she’s so iconic.

    Madison Beer- “15 Minutes”

There are times where I’ve thought Madison Beer deserves the same hype that pop girls like Sabrina Carpenter are receiving. With “15 Minutes”, Beer brings the heat with a bouncy, entrancing pop song that oozes sex appeal in a dream-like melody. It’s different from what the rest are doing, and that’s a good thing.

Her vocals are as solid as ever with “15 Minutes” and it’s just another should-be hit for Beer.

    ROLE MODEL- “Scumbag”

A fun loving track is exactly what we needed on this playlist. Thankfully, ROLE MODEL is here to deliver what he knows best: heartbreaking lyrics masked with upbeat melodies and ear-wormy hooks. “Scumbag” happily screams lyrics like “I’m a scumbag! But you stand by me” during its chorus.

It’s about seeing someone for who they really are, and loving them even if they suck a bit. We’ve all been there, ROLE MODEL is just being honest.

    Neon Trees- “El Diablo”

A new era of Neon Trees is underway: one where the band is more raw and honest than ever, willing to bare it all to their listeners. With new album, Sink Your Teeth, written over the course of three years, a lot has changed for the band. Newest single, “El Diablo”, is high energy right off the bat with an essence of pop rock.

It’s perfect for a night out with your friends, pure fun the entire way through. “El Diablo” is a song that you may not have pinned to be written and performed by Neon Trees, but somehow their new sound works perfectly. It’s edgy, but not in a way that doesn’t work.

Gallant- “Fly On The Wall (Osaka Version)”

“Fly On The Wall” is an emotional and introspective track that gently washes over you as soon as you turn it on. With deep, soothing vocals, Gallant prepares for the release of his sophomore album, Zinc., where he stays true to himself as an artist. “Fly On The Wall” is a perfect beginning to the album, soft and building, reminiscent of an argument.

“It came together as an honest and visceral story I’d been trying to write for a long time,” says Gallant. “It’s focused on the lyrics. The chorus reminded me of saying something I regretted in the heat of themoment during an argument.”

Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

    [ad_1]

It’s no secret at this point, we are huge Greysons Chance fans, and have been for years, so this is a pretty huge moment for us! We got to pick Greyson’s brain about his latest releases, and about what’s next, as well as about his relationship with his fans and about displaying vulnerability in his music. We are still processing getting to have this conversation! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

    Stream ‘Haymaker’ here!

Hi Greyson! Thank so you much for taking the time to talk with us today! To start us off, how would you describe who you are as an artist to someone who is just tuning in for the first time?

Oh that’s rather hard isn’t it? Ever so often I have to tell my story in full, starting from the YouTube video to where I am now; and the whole thing really does read out like a movie. It’s a bizarre story. But if someone is truly tuning in for the first time, I would say my career started with me singing at the piano. And now 14-years-later, I’m still singing at the piano.

‘Rearview Mirror’ marked the start of this next musical journey you’re on, what was it about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made you want it to be the first introduction to this new era?

There was something very classic about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made me want to make it the lead. I am always chasing that feeling of nostalgia everyday I go into the studio, to make things that feel bigger than me and to make things that will stand the test of time. From the jump, ‘Rearview Mirror’ felt that way, and I didn’t second-guess it.

‘Haymaker’ is the track following ‘Rearview Mirror’ and you’ve said the track was born out of a place of conflict within your family, what was it like to be able to work that out through music? Was writing the healing process, or had that already come and writing was the result of the healing?

I’ve gone through a lot in my life, but nothing quite stings like the emotions of family conflict, and for three years, I watched my family crumble before my own eyes. It was awful. Writing was certainly the healing process for me, and it’s been that way since I started writing songs. I told my cowriter Sam Harris the day we wrote ‘Haymaker’ that a thousand pounds were lifted off of my shoulders once those words hit the page.

You’ve always been very personal with your music, with your songs chaptering parts of your life. Can you pinpoint something that you were hesitant to put to music, but ended up in a song that you released and got to see it resonate with people?

I was very hesitant to release ‘Haymaker,’ because it is my real life. I haven’t really spoken to my brother in a few years, so ‘Haymaker’ is this an encapsulation of everything I would say to him if I had the chance. So for these lyrics to be the first words he hears from me? Yeah, that shit’s raw, it’s ugly, it’s nuanced, but it’s necessary. Good art comes from vulnerability, I’ve always believed that.

Palladium was the last record, what is something that you learned during that album rollout/creative process that you’ve taken with you into creating the next project?

I learned through Palladium that I am an album artist, and I always will be. I want to world build, I want my music and my visuals to paint a scene for the listener, to bring them to a place that feels disconnected from their own reality. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that the world needs to be complex, it just needs to be purposeful.

You’ve been in the industry for a long time, and because of that, you’ve had fans that have been around for a decade+ going to shows and supporting the music, what has having the support that’s allowed for breaks (like going to college and stepping away from music) while aways sticking around meant?

When I tell you I am the luckiest artist, you have no idea. My fans know my life, they know what I’ve been through, they know that I’ve suffered a lot, both mentally and physically since I was kid … they keep me upright. Think of someone you’ve known for 14-years of your life? That’s the type of relationship I have with my fans. I don’t feel a pressure to make music for them, if anything I feel a pressure to be healthy and happy for them, because I know that is what they want for me more than anything. My relationship with them is the coolest thing I get to experience in my life.

We know that crafting any form of art takes a village and it is often easier to thank the other people involved and harder to pat yourself on the back, but what is something you’ve been really proud of yourself for during the process of crafting ’Rearview Mirror’/’Haymaker?’

I am proud of myself for pushing forward and continuing on no matter the adversity I’ve gone through. Music is a cutthroat industry, and it’s full of rejection. But the older I get, the more I realize the power in just surviving, waking up everyday and focusing in on the silver lining. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, and that feels like a huge accomplishment.

When you look back at your discography is there a song for you that you have recently felt reconnected to? Maybe a track that you hadn’t revisited in a while and realized it still hits as hard as when you made it?

Boots, a song I released as a stand alone single around four years ago. “I’ve been western before all of these punks,” hits way hard in 2024. Don’t get me started on these fake cowboys out here right now.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we finish out 2024? What’s on the horizon?

I’ve been working on this record for the past year and a half, and ‘Rearview Mirror’ and ‘Haymaker’ are just the first two songs; I’m ready to show everyone the full world. So I guess to answer your question … more music, and a lot of shows. That’s what is on my horizon.

  • EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Lay Zhang On His Growth And How ‘Fresh’ Took Him By Surprise

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Lay Zhang On His Growth And How ‘Fresh’ Took Him By Surprise

    [ad_1]

Yep, you read that correctly. We got the opportunity to exclusively interview Lay Zhang, and we’re going to be pinching ourselves over this one for a while.

Back in June, Lay Zhang released his latest album, STEP, which was his first entirely in English. You may have come to know Lay through this, or its singles ‘Run Back To You’ or ‘Psychic,’ or you might’ve known Lay for over a decade now as part of K-Pop juggernaut EXO. Regardless of when you got here, we can all agree that Lay is a force to be reckoned with. It was an honor to ask Lay Zhang about STEP, his growth since his rookie days, and how mentoring young artists inspires him, all in this exclusive interview!

Lay Zhang x THP Exclusive Interview

    Lay On STEP

Huge congratulations on the release of STEP! How does it feel to have the whole album out in the world?
Thank you! It feels incredible to finally share this album with everyone. I’m excited for fans to hear it.

What makes now the right time for you to release your debut all-English album?
It felt like the perfect moment to connect with a broader audience and showcase my growth as an artist.

You worked with some amazing artists and writers on the album. What do these collaborations mean to you? And how did they come about?
These collaborations mean a lot to me. They came about through mutual respect and a shared vision for the music.

    Lay On ‘Fresh’

Was there a song you were most nervous for fans to hear? Or one where the reaction has taken you by surprise?
I was a bit nervous about ‘Fresh’ because it’s different from what I’ve done before, but the positive reaction has been amazing.

We can’t stop listening to ‘Fresh!’ What are some things that make you feel “fresh and brand new?”
Thank you! Traveling, trying new experiences, and connecting with fans always make me feel rejuvenated.

The moment we heard the title track ‘STEP,’ we knew the performance would be amazing, and the official dance video proved us right! What can you tell us about the experience of recording this song?
Recording ‘STEP’ was a dynamic and energetic experience. The dance video was a lot of fun to create, and I’m glad fans are enjoying it.

    Lay On Tour & TV

Congratulations on the start of the Grandline 4 Tour, too! How does it feel to be back on the road and sharing the new album with fans in person?
It’s thrilling to be back on tour and connect with fans face-to-face. Their energy makes every performance special.

Show It All aired earlier this year. Of course, you were a mentor, but is there anything that you learned or took with you and brought to your own performances since the show?
Mentoring taught me a lot about patience and perspective. I’ve definitely applied some of those lessons to my own performances.

How did you find the experience of being a mentor, especially while you are still very active in the industry yourself?
Being a mentor was rewarding. It was a balancing act, but it also gave me a new appreciation for the industry.

    Lay On His Career

How do you think you’ve changed the most since your own rookie days? And what do you think your rookie self would think of the Lay Zhang of 2024?
I’ve grown a lot in terms of confidence and skill. I think my rookie self would be proud and inspired by the journey.

As a singer, dancer, rapper, actor, producer, and businessman, it feels like there’s no creative outlet you’re too afraid to try! Are there any other creative avenues you’d love to explore?
I’m always open to new creative challenges. Exploring more in the realms of film and fashion interests me.

What message would you like to give to new fans who discover the world of Lay Zhang through STEP?
Welcome! I hope my music inspires and brings joy to you. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

And what would you like fans who have followed you for over a decade now to take away from this release?
Thank you for your unwavering support. This album is a testament to our journey together, and I hope it resonates deeply with you.

Thank you again to Lay Zhang for chatting with us in this exclusive interview! Now, we gotta go show STEP even more love.

What did you think of our chat with Lay? Are you as obsessed with STEP as we are? Are you, like us, among the fans showing ‘Fresh’ the love it deserves? Let us know over on Twitter @thehoneypop, and you can also talk to us over on Facebook and Instagram!

  • Don’t Sleep On Lexa Gates And ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’

Don’t Sleep On Lexa Gates And ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’

    [ad_1]

Lexa Gates is an emerging artist that’s been put on our radar and we want to get you in on the hype now so you can look back and say you knew her when! Who doesn’t love a good OG fan flex? Her new song ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’ just dropped and we’re obsessed. She’s on the rise for a reason!

    ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’

First of all, can we take a moment to appreciate this music video? Lexa created this video herself, from styling to directing to editing, and we are absolutely floored. We love the visuals and the aesthetic, and the fact that it’s all DIY makes it even cooler. Who better to capture and visualize the vibes of a song better than the artist herself?

Lexa’s voice lends beautifully to the smooth, jazzy, silky flow of ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone,’ produced by Billy Lemos. From the title, you’ve probably guessed that the track tackles themes of love, loneliness, and identity.

“Am who I am, no way out
Let you see me, flaws, in, out”

“Feeling stuck, please let me out
Wait, please, don’t let me go
Hate, lust, love, I don’t know
Can’t deal with this sh*t though”

    “Nah, that can’t be it
This is true love, isn’t it?
    You and I versus everyone
Made a plan, let’s stick with it”

One of the things that stands out to us about Lexa and ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’ is her lyricism. The song flows like someone’s inner thoughts. It really embodies that struggle of identity and love and letting someone see that part of you and flow the way your brain might, thoughts rushing around in your head.

If this is where she’s starting out we can’t wait to see where Lexa Gates goes! Stream ‘I Just Can’t Be Alone’ and join in on our hype, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Lillian Hepler’s ‘Famous’ Will Help You Win The Breakup

Lillian Hepler’s ‘Famous’ Will Help You Win The Breakup

    [ad_1]

Relationships can be such a wonder. You meet someone, you love them, you plan everything together, look into the future, and see everything that could be for the two of you. Sadly, things don’t go quite as planned sometimes. Things can suddenly explode and implode all at once, and then comes the end of all of it. But we don’t let the bad situations or people get us down. Lillian Hepler feels the exact same after her breakup. Thankfully, she put all her heartbreak and power into an absolute anthem for us to enjoy with her new single, ‘Famous.’

Image Source: Courtesy of Tallulah PR

We don’t let the bad ones win around here, honey. No, no, no. Heartbreak is a ferocious thing to go through; sometimes, we want revenge for all the wrongs. Lillian Hepler is here to remind us with ‘Famous’ that within the heartbreak after the breakup, the best kind of revenge is moving on, not uttering their name, and pretending that they didn’t even exist in your life.

This song was born out of frustration as to how a lot of relationships tend to go these days. You meet someone, plan a future together, and then all hell breaks loose. They betray you, and you’re left watching this person move on without you. It feels like you’re always the bad guy and that they never have to face the consequences for the things they’ve said and done. But the best revenge is actually just moving on and never having their name come out of your mouth again.

Lillian Hepler on the meaning behind ‘Famous’

Moving on from a relationship after a breakup can take a lot of strength, and Lillian Hepler has given us that extra helping hand with ‘Famous.’ If you ever find yourself in the midst of heartbreak (And, please, we hope you never have to feel that, honey!), then please let this song be that powerful, inspiring reminder that moving on is the best kind of revenge you could ever take against your former lover.

People can only take credit if you give it to them, and I don’t like giving people who have hurt me the satisfaction of that. I just pretend they never existed.

Lillian Hepler on the meaning behind ‘Famous’

What a breakup anthem. Lillian Hepler truly took her heartbreak from the breakup and harnessed all of the emotions to give us ‘Famous.’ And we can’t thank her enough.

    Want To Hear More?

If you love ‘Famous’ by Lillian Hepler and are eager to hear more from her, don’t worry, honey! We gotchu! For an extra taste of what this rising star offers, we highly recommend ‘IDK Her,’ another anthem for those wanting inspiration to conquer heartbreak

But don’t stop there! Sit down, grab your favorite snack, and dive into the rest of her music and discover everything she has to offer. You won’t regret it, honey. You’ll quickly say, “Lillian Hepler is my favorite,” to all your friends in no time!

  • All The Fun Taylor Swift References On Jordana Bryant’s ‘Taylor 4 President’

All The Fun Taylor Swift References On Jordana Bryant’s ‘Taylor 4 President’

    [ad_1]

Our favorite stars, they’re just like us! You already know we at The Honey POP are huge Taylor Swift fans, and Jordana Bryant recently released the playful ‘Taylor 4 President’ to celebrate Taylor’s legacy and impact. The pop-country anthem will have you listening for Easter eggs and dancing around your room while you get hyped to vote in this November’s election. It’s yet another example of Jordana’s ability to write witty lyrics that will set up camp in your mind and heart!

As an 18-year-old getting ready to vote for the first time, I’m hopeful this election year to find a candidate who speaks to me – someone that I can get excited about supporting. I think what makes Taylor Swift a really powerful songwriter and entertainer is how she connects with her fans and how relatable her music is. It’d be wonderful to have someone running for president with that similar universal relatability and ability to connect all kinds of people. By releasing this song, I want to bring some lightheartedness to the genuine changes myself and my peers hope to see this November. If nothing else, I hope it’s a reminder for voters, especially first-time voters like myself, to vote for what they want their future to look like.

    Jordana Bryant

Listen to ‘Taylor 4 President’ below, then keep reading for our breakdown of the lyrical references Jordana slipped in to honor Taylor’s work! See how many you can figure out on your own before we compare notes 👀

“This Is The Time For A Matriarchy…”

Has there been a more iconic moment in Swiftiedom than finally hearing what lyric made ‘All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)’ explicit? There are very few moments that could top it! “F*ck the patriarchy” has gone on to become one of Taylor’s most rallying lyrics, with the crowds at the Eras Tour screaming it at the top of their lungs. And we still haven’t had a female president, so this tie-in works perfectly.

“You Said It Yourself That You’d Be The Man…”

Taylor did, in fact, say that she’d be the man! Her 2019 single ‘The Man’ reflects on the double standards that women and men face in the entertainment business and life in general. She notes that men are allowed to “brag about raking in dollars and getting b*tches and models” while women in the spotlight are often shamed for their business moves and dating lives. But she refuses to let that get her down, insisting, “if I was a man, then I’d be the man.”

“We Could Really Use Your Mastermind…”

In her music, visuals, and beyond, Taylor is a total creative powerhouse and always has such innovative ideas. This line specifically references her 2022 track ‘Mastermind,’ which plays with the idea that she plans absolutely everything out. Her powerful mind hasn’t let us down over the years!

“This Summer Would Be Far From A Cruel One…”

So we’ve all had ‘Cruel Summer’ on a constant repeat since the summer of 2019, right?! If not, get on that! The song has made history and become one of Taylor’s most well-known tracks, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 four years after its release thanks to the hype of the Eras Tour

“My Mother Would Breathe Easy If You Won…”

Yay, some recognition for the deep cuts on Taylor’s 2008 album, Fearless! ‘Breathe’ is a melancholy song about parting ways with a friend through a difficult time, and we love how Jordana spun the title here. Here, it’s almost like hoping not to part ways with the idea of a better future while you worry about the outcome of an election.

“It’s Time For The Era Where You’re In Control Of All Of The Polls…”

Taylor running for president would totally usher in a new era, and this line plays on the success of the Eras Tour to make that point! Eras is a career-spanning victory lap for Taylor to celebrate her legacy and music with millions of fans worldwide, both physically at the shows with social content, and through fan livestreams of the concerts.

“You’d Be The Best Thing In The West Wing / With Her Own Kind Of Army…”

The second verse of ‘Taylor 4 President’ includes two references to the lyrics of Taylor’s song ‘You’re Losing Me,’ which was a Vault addition to Midnights. The lyrics in question are “I’m the best thing at this party” and “fighting in only your army.” Jordana flipped the latter to reference the military power the president has, while also celebrating Swifties and their passionate support for Taylor!

    “Queen Of 13…”

Finally, we can’t have a tribute to Taylor without referencing her lucky number, 13! She used to paint it on the back of her hand before every concert, often won her earliest awards while sitting in the 13th row of seats, and now has a bedazzled 13 on her silver Fearless guitar on the Eras Tour.

What do you think of Jordana Bryant’s ‘Taylor 4 President?’ Which of these lyrical references is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • 9 Of Our Favorite Lyrics From Anna Thompson’s New Album, never let me fall in love again!

9 Of Our Favorite Lyrics From Anna Thompson’s New Album, never let me fall in love again!

    [ad_1]

We’re gonna be real. Breakups are rough. But one thing that always helps is the perfect album that just gets it. If that’s what you’re looking for, then look no further than Anna Thompson’s new record! never let me fall in love again! is the ultimate post-breakup album consisting of fun, electro-pop beats, but filled with devastatingly relatable lyrics that can help you get over any relationship. Here are our 9 favorite lyrics that hit us hard.

    ‘wouldn’t that be bad?’

“You have taken every bit of peace I had
and baby if I’m being honest,
    I don’t think I want it back.”

    ‘we have nothing in common’

“I illustrate you in my mind
Perfect picture in a picture frame
    We have nothing in common
But we’re kinda, sorta exactly the same, the same”

    ‘so what? whatever!’

You like that I won’t disappear just like that ringing in your ears
Let it become with the beat and become the music to me

    ‘house’

“We fallen in love or out?
You got too close to me babe
    Memorized details of your face
    Wondering what are we now?”

    ‘the grey’

Blue is the color of your heart
Got no idea who the f*ck you are
Pink is the color of our hair
And everything we decide to share

    ‘why’d you do that?’

“The moon hangs over me on my drive home
Just like the love you had
    The love I’ll never have
You’re sinking your fangs into my bones
    And they’re about to crack”

    ‘papercuts’

“What’s your weapon of choice, being to unavoid
It’s the lack of the little things, got me annoyed
Overwhelmed all at once bringing up all the past hurt”

    ‘party’

“Looked hard but couldn’t find your interest
Your guess is good as mine
Got intimate with corners of my mind”

    ‘finale’

“A part of me is dead
‘Cause I had my self esteem

and then you ripped it all to shreds”

  • TXT Celebrate Their Bond In ‘We’ll Never Change’ And CHIKAI

TXT Celebrate Their Bond In ‘We’ll Never Change’ And CHIKAI

    [ad_1]

Another TOMORROW X TOGETHER comeback, another arrow straight to our hearts! Back with their fourth Japanese single, CHIKAI, TXT has continued the trajectory they began earlier this year with TOMORROW, by which we mean they’ve decided to hit us where it hurts.

CHIKAI translates to ‘oath,’ and that’s exactly what this single album is. Across three tracks, the members restate their dedication to one another, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. TXT are always busy, but 2024 is proving to be one of the most intense yet. Following the back of TOMORROW‘s global success, TXT are in the middle of their third world tour, ACT: PROMISE. They’re also developing more and more notoriety in the fashion space and have attended Paris Fashion Week twice so far this year, and three of the five members have launched their own solo variety shows. See what we mean? You couldn’t dedicate yourself to all of that unless you really meant it.

TXT continues to grow but don’t worry, they’ll never change…

    ‘We’ll Never Change’

First of all, can we take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous that harp is? We absolutely love that TXT emphasizes it in the choreography, which is as ethereal and dainty as the song deserves.

The layers in both the vocals and the track are stunning, we’re obsessed with the delicacy of the guitar, and overall the song is just so soothing. The tape sound effect in the production adds to the wistful sentimentality, and we couldn’t love it more if we tried. A reverent homage to friendship, ‘We’ll Never Change’ is the latest in a long list of nostalgic TXT songs.

Even at a distance, even as we get older, one oath, we’re never, we’re never, we’re never changing.

    ‘We’ll Never Change’ lyrics

Our tubatu sing of “Blending into each other, filling each other’s gaps,” as “love sparkles,” and we couldn’t agree with them more. As a group with distinct personalities, performance styles, and musical tastes, MOA has long known how well TXT balances each other out. After all, as they say, “Our ‘difference’ is not ‘wrong.’”

    ‘We’ll Never Change’ Music Video

And as for the ‘We’ll Never Change’ music video? It’s delicious agony from start to finish. It opens with a flying light very similar to the fox from the ‘Deja Vu’ music video, and that’s not the end of the links. Just as ‘Deja Vu’ referenced so many of their Korean music videos, ‘We’ll Never Change’ does the same for TXT’s Japanese discography.

TXT all play football together, just as they do in the ‘Run Away (Japanese Version)’ video, but this time Beomgyu is properly in the group now (and doesn’t fall off a bike in this entire MV, which feels like the biggest miracle of all). They all seem to have grown-up jobs now (boo), but what hasn’t changed is their love for their friendship. Yeonjun, who cleans a cinema, sheds tears as he watches their memories on the big screen. It adds to the lore theory that the members only exist inside his head, which makes us wanna bawl our eyes out, TBH.

    ‘Deja Vu (Japanese Version)’

One thing you should know about ‘Deja Vu?’ It’s a triple threat. One of the best K-Pop songs of 2024 now has three versions! We’re so happy to add the Japanese version to our playlist rotation alongside the original and the ‘Anemoia Remix.’ Sandwiching it in between the other two tracks on CHIKAI really emphasizes its emotional intensity, whilst allowing the other songs to be more gentle, light-hearted moments.

    ‘Kitto Zutto (きっとずっと)’

Is it really a TXT comeback if there isn’t a pop-punk-inspired b-side? We guess we’ll never know. ‘Kitto Zutto’ was produced by the one and only diamond maknae, Huening Kai! He adds this to his list of credits including the likes of ‘Dear Sputnik,’ and it’s so cool to see his identity as a producer becoming more and more distinct.

Lyrically, TXT continues to twist the nostalgia-imbued knife. ‘Kitto Zutto’ or ‘きっとずっと’ approximately translates to ‘undoubtedly always.’ Is it just us, or did you immediately think of TOMORROW b-side ‘Miracle,’ too? TXT was singing about how the biggest miracle in their daily life is each other (‘Miracle’) and they promise their future is “you” (‘Deja Vu’), and now they’re doubling down on it with lyrics like this…

I promise, no matter what, surely, always, I will be right beside you

    ‘Kitto Zutto’ Lyrics (translation credit)

See? We weren’t exaggerating when we said that TXT is out to hit us in the feels with CHIKAI, and basically everything else they’ve done in 2024.

So, what’s next for our tubatu? All five members (including Beomgyu, despite his injury!) are currently in Japan promoting ‘We’ll Never Change,’ and then TXT will embark on their first dome tour across Japan, starting in Tokyo on July 10th.

In Her Own Words New Single Makes Us ‘Beg For More’

    [ad_1]

2024 has already proven to be a fantastic year for pop punk. We’ve had new music from Neck Deep, Telltale, The Home Team, and so many others. But now, In Her Own Words gets to join the list and we’re absolutely ecstatic! They recently released their new single and we’re obsessed! And In Her Own Words’ ‘Beg For More’ It has us, well… begging for more new music.

“”Beg for More” is about not being able to rid yourself of toxic energy from a relationship. Even though you know you have to remove someone from your life, you can’t bring yourself to actually do what is best for you.”

    ‘Beg For More’

This is their first release since their much-loved 2022 album, Distance or Decay and it’s absolutely everything we wanted and more. It has all the components of a great pop punk song. It’s super catchy and it will get stuck in your head. And the lyrics? Devastatingly relatable. ‘Beg For More’ seems to be the perfect introduction track to usher in IHOW’s new era and we couldn’t be more stoked. In the meantime, we’ll be listening to this on repeat!

    Our favorite lyrics:
I wrote a letter to the old me
So I would never make the same mistake again
But now I’m driving up to your street

What do you think of In Her Own Words’ new song, ‘Beg For More?’ How excited are you for their new era? Let us know in the comments, on Facebook, Instagram, or by tweeting us @thehoneypop!
