Welcome to 2023, the Year of Skrillex – EDM.com

Cue up the Michael Scott memes, because it’s happening.

Countless headlines pertaining to new albums from Skrillex—yes, plural—have ran ad nauseam for years. They’ve been tantamount to torture for fans of the dubstep icon, who shed his skin as the poster boy of “brostep” and became one of the world’s most prolific contemporary music producers.

It’s been almost a decade since Skrillex’s last album, 2014’s seminal debut, Recess. But fans can finally heave a sigh of relief after he confirmed the release of two albums in 2023.

k?d Continues to Pave New Stylistic Inroads On Kaleidoscopic Album, “CAGE SCRIPT” – EDM.com

k?d’s come-up saw him breaking down genre boundaries and rebuilding them with his signature. And years later, it appears that appetite to continue paving new stylistic inroads remains alive and well.

k?d’s new album, CAGE SCRIPT, marks his first long-form effort since 2020’s stunning Rebirth. The album sees the enigmatic producer combining elements of synth-pop, glitch, trap and future bass, among other influences.

k?d’s opening charge in “Return To Nothingness” finds him melding a diverse fusion of genres together into one playfully uplifting song. While he flexes his versatility on the production side, ensuing tracks “Flow In You” and “If This Is A Dream” show k?d aligning closely with his vocalist collaborators to spotlight the album’s memorable songwriting.

Listen to i_o’s Stunning Posthumous Album, a Reminder of the Fragility of Life – EDM.com

Two years after the tragic death of i_o, the family of the late DJ and electronic music producer has released a posthumous album, Warehouse Summer.

The album is a stunning snapshot not only of i_o’s enduring legacy, but also how much more he had to accomplish. It’s both a reminder of the fragility of life and a captivating cry for help in the throes of collective mourning.

Warehouse Summer features 14 new tracks, each of which was produced in collaboration with alt-pop star Lights, a frequent collaborator of the techno virtuoso. It’s tough not to feel her poignant songwriting in your bones, especially when it comes to “Prayers,” an aching drum & bass track about the hurdles of processing grief: “I can’t hold on to myself / If there’s nobody there / I got pain I can’t help / It’s a weight you can’t bear.”
