It’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced dry skin on our hands in the winter. We constantly use our hands, making cracks and dry flakes feel all the more painful. However, you don’t have to endure this common skin concern year after year. While there are tons of remedies on the market, I’ve only ever found one that actually works: Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.

After years of trying products that smelled weird, left my hands slimy or straight up didn’t do anything, I did my research and came across this game-changing Neutrogena hand cream. You might think I’m being overdramatic, but I’ve been using it for a few years now, and I’ve even gotten my mom, sister and friend hooked. I currently have three tubes that are each in handy places for when I need a quick dab. There’s one in my desk, one on my dresser and one in my bag. Trust me, with this skin-saving product, you won’t ever need another hand cream again, and you most certainly won’t go through another winter with dry skin.

“I’ve tried dozens of lotions, but this is the only one that fixes cracking and splitting on my hands
,” wrote one shopper. It’s easy to see how this genius formula has a near-perfect rating on Amazon, with over 3,500 reviewers giving it five stars.

You likely haven’t heard of this under-the-radar hand cream, but it’s actually been around longer than you. Let us explain. Going decades and decades back, Norwegian fishermen dealt with extremely chilly weather conditions. So, when their hands would get chapped in the cold, they decided to create a glycerin-powered hand cream.

According to the brand, in 1969, Lloyd Cotsen, then president of Neutrogena, was tasked with advertising the fishermen’s O.G. recipe. After rubbing the fishermen’s concoction onto his own hands, any dryness immediately vanished. And that, folks, is how Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Hand Cream came to be.

That’s quite the story, but you’ll just have to try the arctic fishermens’ formula for yourself. It contains a high concentration of glycerin—40 percent, to be exact. It’s so strong that you really only need a tiny dot. According to Neutrogena, each tube holds 200 applications
, meaning you’re good to go for the entire winter (and beyond).

“This is my favorite hand cream and has been for many years,” wrote one shopper. “I always have it around, leave tubes around the house and carry them on the go. It does the job and lasts a long time,” they added.

The formula is also hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. Heck, it’s even certified by the National Eczema Association, so you know it’s also suitable for super sensitive skin.

“I have super sensitive skin (acute dermatitis) that acts up only on my hands. My dermatologist recommended this for me for daily use and I LOVE it,” wrote another shopper. “I now keep a tube in just about every room and one in the door of my car!”

For instant, lasting hydration and silky smooth hands, try Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. You might as well stock up now with this six-pack, since we’ll bet a million bucks you’re never going to use another hand cream again.

  • Kerry Washington Told Me All of Her Best Beauty Secrets for Glowing Skin, 24/7

Kerry Washington Told Me All of Her Best Beauty Secrets for Glowing Skin, 24/7

Kind of related to that, are there any beauty tips or tricks that you learned while on set that you’ve continued to use when you’re not filming?

The first time I discovered tiny blemish patches was on set. And I love Neutrogena’s Stubborn Acne Blemish Patches because no matter how hard I work to take care of my skin, occasionally those little enemies appear. But the patches are incredibly effective! We’re the #1 dermatologist recommended acne patch brand. Learning about those was really amazing because I would leave set, put it on, and come back in the morning and it looked physically improved which is great! I think understanding that taking care of skin is really a holistic job. That it’s not one product, but a lifestyle choice.

That’s one of the reasons that I really love the Skin Vitals experience that we put together for the Metaverse Beauty week because we’re really talking about the internal and external aggressors that impact your skin which means we’re also talking about the environment, how hard travel is on it, and UV rays on your skin, but we also talk about lack of sleep, nutrition, and stress. I really learned on set that those things matter and that if I want to look good, it’s about taking care of myself and feeling good first.

You pretty much just answered my next question Kerry! I was going to ask what are some ways you practice self care with such a busy schedule.

It’s so funny! In this experience we created for the inaugural Metaverse Beauty Week (which is so exciting), we build this whole gameified experience where you journey through the layers of the skin from the dynamic barrier to the cellular activity—it’s very cool! It sounds like complicated science because we’re super into science at Neutrogena, but we’ve made it really fun for the consumer so that you learn while you’re having a good time.

So, in this experience, there are all of these aggressors that we have to battle to have healthy skin like traveling. Traveling really dries out your skin. In that level, we talk about how important the Hydroboost line is to helping with hydration in a drying environment. We talk about UV rays and we have such an incredible spectrum of sunscreen products, but in particular, these days, I’m also really into our Mineral Tint UV because we have it in lots of shades so it’s friendly to different skin tones and the minerals are really effective. It’s like a tinted moisturizer with strong UV!

But in addition to talking about those things that you can impact with Neutrogena products, we also talk about a lack of sleep, stress, and nutrition. Those are the areas that I find I sometimes struggle with more, in particular stress. I have a lot of stuff going on and a lack of sleep. So it’s really important for me to challenge myself to take better and better care of myself to make sure I’m really helping my skin to be its best from the outside and the inside-out.

  • So You Want the Best Hair of Your Life? It Starts With this Undervalued Step

So You Want the Best Hair of Your Life? It Starts With this Undervalued Step

Great hair is on pretty much everyone’s wish list, but it wouldn’t surprise me if a great scalp didn’t quite make it onto the vision board. (I get it—the pics just aren’t as #aesthetic.) But TBH, it should, and from where I stand, your scalp deserves just as much attention as both our skincare and haircare routines.

“The reality is that healthy hair begins at the scalp, which is why having a weekly scalp exfoliation as part of your hair routine is so crucial,” says Babba Rivera, founder and CEO of Ceremonia. And many haircare brands, including Ceremonia, are formulating products specifically with the scalp in mind. From shampoos that address scalp dryness to scalp treatments that aim to boost hair growth, the area is no longer an afterthought.

Scalp exfoliation products in particular are having a long-awaited moment. And with good reason—they can help with everything from hair thinning to flaking. “There are many benefits of exfoliating the scalp that all contribute to the overall health of your hair and scalp,” says Jeannette Graf, MD, a dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

Ahead, I’m breaking down just what those benefits are with the help of Rivera and Graf, as well as Gulf Coast–based dermatologist and Neutrogena healthy scalp ambassador Lindsey Zubritsky, MD, FAAD. Plus, find out how often to exfoliate for optimum results and exactly how to do it.
