Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning received a major vote of confidence from actor Glen Powell on Monday as the rising star prepares for a road game against the Florida Gators.

Powell appeared on ESPN’s “NFL Live” to promote his new series “Chad Powers” and predicted that Manning would turn his play around and then some.

“I’ll say that Arch, to (have) his first start at The Shoe, at Ohio State, who is a hell of a program, that’s a tough way to come in to that position. … Arch has the capability to bring Texas to a natty (national championship),” Powell said. “Mark my words by the way, if Texas wins the natty this year, I think we’re going to go on a dynasty run.”

The Austin, Texas, native attended the university but hasn’t finished his degree just yet.

Still, he’s keeping a close eye on what the Longhorns do this season as fans have been excited about Manning, whose uncles Peyton and Eli are producers for “Chad Powers.”

“There’s no reason why people should not be coming to Texas. It’s in the greatest city in the world. One of the most prestigious teams,” the “Top Gun: Maverick” star added. “Nobody looks bad in burnt orange. I’m a big believer in this program.

“I think Arch has what it takes. I think he’s not overthinking anymore. It really feels like he’s gonna be meeting his receivers in time without having to think too much.”

Manning faced criticism out of the gate for not performing up to the college football experts’ standards when it came to his performance – though, Texas only lost to Ohio State by a touchdown in the first week of the season.

  • Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin gives hilarious response to daughter’s relationship with LSU star days before game

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, announced she is dating LSU star linebacker Whit Weeks, and the Ole Miss head coach had a hilarious, three-word reaction to the news.

Landry, a 20-year-old sophomore at Mississippi, posted a photo of herself and Weeks in an Instagram carousel with the caption, “Happy,” which included a smiley face.

Weeks also reposted the story, commenting with, “Nice dude,” to which Landry replied, “Thanks bud.”

While their new romance is going strong, Weeks and Lane will not be seeing eye to eye on Saturday when No. 4 LSU travels to No. 13 Ole Miss for a highly anticipated SEC clash. So, when one football fan posted the picture of the couple on X saying, “The Kiffin household must be in shambles,” the coach gave his take on the game to come.

“Take the over,” he replied, predicting a high-scoring bout would be incoming between the Tigers and Rebels. And Kiffin obviously wants most of those points to be from his squad in Oxford.

LSU STAR WHIT WEEKS REVEALS RELATIONSHIP WITH DAUGHTER OF OLE MISS COACH LANE KIFFIN DAYS BEFORE GAME

Weeks is going to try his best to get the ball back to Garrett Nussmeier and the Tigers’ offense. He’s one of the best defenders in the SEC, leading the conference in solo tackles last season with 61. Weeks also tallied 125 combined tackles, 3½ sacks and an interception.

Weeks has 11 total tackles through four games this season, including five solo. He has recorded a half-sack as well.

Both teams are looking to stay perfect with 4-0 records to begin the 2025 campaign.

After a close battle against Clemson on the road to open the season, the Tigers went on a run that included a 56-10 beatdown on Southeastern Louisiana last week after beating the Florida Gators, 20-10.

Meanwhile, Lane’s offense has been cooking as the Rebels have scored at least 30 points and at least 41 in three of their four wins this season. The latest was a 45-10 dominant win over Tulane, while they outscored Arkansas, 41-35, the week prior.

The 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff will be one of the best games of the week on the college football slate, and now there’s some extra bragging rights considering this budding relationship.

  • LSU wide receiver discusses chemistry with Garrett Nussmeier, team’s mindset amid national championship hopes

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The LSU Tigers are aiming to get back to the mountaintop, and their start couldn’t have gotten much better.

In their season opener, they took down then-No. 4 Clemson on the road, 17-10. With two more wins since then, LSU has gone from No. 9 at the beginning of the season up to the third-ranked team in the country.

“Can’t complain starting off 3-0,” LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Hilton said the Tigers have a “go 1-0 each week” mindset, but it had been six years since LSU began its season with a victory, which he said was a “good feeling.”

The expectations, though, were automatically higher. Garrett Nussmeier is in his second full season as a starter after replacing Jayden Daniels. Nussmeier had to wait his turn, and Hilton himself, in his fifth season with LSU, has 22 career receptions, albeit with crazy big-play ability.

“I’m pretty sure it was kind of understood, when you come to a place like this, you expect competition in those rooms. That’s what you come to LSU for,” Hilton admitted.

But Hilton’s new NIL deal with Popeyes reflects patience and hard work. The restaurant’s new campaign, by loading up a roster with 10 college athletes, is setting out to celebrate college football athletes who embody the pursuit of “better” this football season.

MICHAEL VICK SHUTS DOWN VIRGINIA TECH RUMORS, REMAINS FOCUSED ON TASK AT NORFOLK STATE

“I really partnered with Popeyes in pursuit of being better on and off the field. It’s me and nine other guys, and we’re just celebrating that coming into the season. It’s their pursuit of being better. Being an athlete, that’s what we take pride in, and constant improvement. So it means a lot to me,” he said.

That same characteristic, though, can be said for Nussmeier, Hilton said.

“Me and Nuss, we’ve been together since our freshman year, so we’ve got that chemistry. He’s really good. The biggest thing for him is the role he’s taken as a leader. Just seeing him take that step as a leader aspect, it’s been nice to watch,” he said.

One quarter of the regular season is already complete, and barring unforeseen circumstances, the Tigers will be competing for a national championship in the 12-team playoff this year.

But Hilton doesn’t want to look ahead just yet.

“I say the biggest thing for us right now, obviously, the team morale is high being 3-0 right now. I would say, you just can’t look too far ahead into the future,” he said. “You gotta block out all the outside noise. There’s gonna be people saying good things and bad things about teams. That just comes with the sport. But we have to focus on the task at hand, which is one game each week.”

  • ESPN star’s announcer jinx adds to Michigan’s troubles in loss to Oklahoma

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

An announcer jinx added to the Michigan Wolverines’ issues in their 24-13 loss against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night.

ESPN stars Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit were on the call for the game. Michigan kicker Dominic Zvada came onto the field in the second quarter in an attempt to cut Oklahoma’s seven-point lead to four with a field goal.

Fowler spoke about Zvada’s leg strength and accuracy. Zvada was 33-of-37 from field goal attempts inside 40 yards. The attempt was from 32 yards.

“Well, Dominic Zvada usually gets points when he goes out there to kick field goals,” Fowler said. “He’s an All-American kicker. Bombs them from 50-plus easily. This is a chip shot of 32 to get the Wolverines on the board.”

    Zvada hooked the attempt left.

It was a tough night for Michigan all around. Oklahoma took a 14-0 lead into halftime and never relinquished even as Michigan made it close at the end.

John Mateer was on fire for the Sooners all night. He finished 21-of-34 with 270 passing yards, a touchdown pass and one interception. He added 74 yards on the ground and tallied two rushing touchdowns.

Sooners wide receiver Deion Burks had seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

  • Bill Belichick’s UNC coaching debut ends in blowout home loss to TCU

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Bill Belichick had a “welcome to college football” moment on Monday night, as his North Carolina Tar Heels were blown out by the TCU Horned Frogs, 48-14, to begin the 2025 college football season.

It was a night filled with expectation, celebrity appearances and pure hype at Kenan Stadium, as Belichick’s first taste of being a college football head coach started on home turf in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels were hoping to usher in a new era with a victory to not only notch another first under Belichick’s resume, but get the program heading in the right direction from the jump.

The Horned Frogs had another thing in mind, though, as they were fazed by the screaming crowd of over 50,000, which included the likes of Randy Moss, Michael Jordan, Roy Williams, Lawrence Taylor and many more.

The Belichick era began with an impressive North Carolina opening-drive touchdown, as the Tar Heels went 83 yards down the field with Caleb Hood capping it with his first score of the season.

But it was all TCU after that, scoring 41 unanswered points on their way to an easy victory.

TOM BRADY DISHES ON THE ‘CHALLENGE’ FOR BILL BELICHICK IN 1ST SEASON AT NORTH CAROLINA

Horned Frogs quarterback Josh Hoover was dicing up the Tar Heels’ defense, and it started with a 27-yard strike to Jordan Dwyer, who was a favorite all night long in the pass game, for a touchdown that tied the game at seven apiece following the extra point.

TCU got more physical on defense, especially at the line of scrimmage, which hindered what UNC wanted to do when they had possession. The Horned Frogs held them to three straight three-and-outs, while taking the lead with a field goal early in the second quarter.

North Carolina seemed to get some momentum back when Hoover’s pass was too high for his intended receiver, and the Tar Heels’ Kaleb Cost made an acrobatic interception to flip the field.

But UNC quarterback Gio Lopez gave the ball right back to TCU, and it was in the worst way as veteran safety Bud Clark jumped a route and took the interception 25 yards to the house for a pick-six that made it 17-7. The Horned Frogs would end the half with a short field goal, taking a commanding 20-7 lead into the locker room as the crowd was stunned.

That feeling wouldn’t end, though, as the very first play of the second half was a 75-yard touchdown run by Horned Frogs star running back Kevorian Barnes, who went untouched down the right sideline to break the game open.

UNC was unable to come back at that point, as the Horned Frogs continued to run up the score with running back Trent Battle rushing for 28 yards to make it 34-7, and Lopez was sacked by Jonathan Bax, leading his Horned Frogs teammate Devean Deal to scoop up the fumbled football and run it back 37 yards for yet another touchdown.

At that point, Belichick switched quarterbacks, going with Max Johnson, who led a touchdown drive late in the third quarter to add some points for the Tar Heels. But the game was out of reach, and it’s clear the Tar Heels have much to work on heading into next week.

Meanwhile, Hoover showed out in front of many NFL scouts, going 27-of-36 for 284 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception thrown. Barnes had 11 carries for 113 yards, while Dwyer hauled in nine receptions for a whopping 136 yards to help TCU’s cause.

No one expected Belichick to immediately turn the program around and get them to compete for a national title, but this was a shocking result to be dominated at home to kick off his collegiate coaching career.

  • Jordon Hudson enjoys Bill Belichick’s UNC debut in suite with Randy Moss as celebrities flock to Chapel Hill

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The hype is real at Chapel Hill, as celebrities and alumni flocked to see Bill Belichick debut as the North Carolina Tar Heels’ new head football coach.

It was expected that many were going to be heading to Kenan Stadium to see what the Tar Heels could do, but the names that made their way over on Monday night were stunning.

Among them, of course, was Belichick’s girlfriend Jordon Hudson, who was spotted in a suite alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss. Moss played his college football at Notre Dame and Marshall, but he was decked out in Carolina blue cheering on the Tar Heels.

But the celebrities only shined brighter as the cameras made their way around the stadium.

After the Tar Heels began the 2025 season with an opening-drive touchdown, Tar Heels legendary former head basketball coach Roy Williams was clapping in his own suite alongside Michael Jordan, the UNC sensation who turned into one of the best NBA players of all time.

TOM BRADY DISHES ON THE ‘CHALLENGE’ FOR BILL BELICHICK IN 1ST SEASON AT NORTH CAROLINA

Jordan was rumored to be one of the alumni heading to Kenan Stadium, and it would make sense considering his “Jumpman” logo is all over the Tar Heels uniforms and accessories.

Another alumnus who was spotted at the stadium was Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor, the New York Giants legend who went second overall in the 1981 NFL Draft out of Chapel Hill.

Even Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees manager, took the time to watch the Tar Heels before his squad faces the Houston Astros on the road Tuesday night.

From NFL legend Julius Peppers and Team USA soccer star Mia Hamm to country music singers Eric Church and Chase Rice, the buzz was all over Chapel Hill on Monday night as everyone showed up to support Belichick as he embarks on a first in his illustrious coaching career.

Belichick may have Super Bowls under his belt, but he has never taken on the gauntlet that is college football, famously shocking everyone when he accepted North Carolina’s job this season. He worked fast to get his staff together, including his son, Steve Belichick, coming over from Washington to serve as defensive coordinator.

The Tar Heels are unranked to start the season, but much like the Colorado Buffaloes and the hype they got with Deion Sanders taking over the program, Belichick’s squad could work its way up the rankings as the year goes along.

Unfortunately for Belichick, it wasn’t the start he was hoping for on Monday night. The Horned Frogs came to play, dominating the game in a 48-14 win on the road, as Belichick has a lot of work to do with his players heading into next week against the Charlotte 49ers.

  • No. 9 LSU earns hard-fought road victory after upsetting No. 4 Clemson

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Another top-10 bout on Saturday night was a defensive showing, but this time, it was the road team getting it done, as No. 9 LSU earned a 17-10 victory over No. 4 Clemson in South Carolina.

Offense did not come easily in this one, as there were four punts, a fumble, and two field goals on the first seven drives. Late in the second half, Clemson found a groove and went on a 13-play drive that ended in the game’s first touchdown. LSU answered back with a healthy drive of their own, but they lost a fumble on 4th and 2 from inside the red zone just before the half ended.

Clemson missed a field goal on their first drive out of the half, and LSU responded with a touchdown to tie things up at 10. Momentum seemed to be in LSU’s hands, as they picked off Cade Klubnik and Garrett Nussmeier found Zavion Thomas for a score.

However, Thomas did not maintain control through the catch, and it was ruled incomplete. Almost immediately, Damian Ramos pull-hooked a 46-yard field goal attempt.

But LSU forced a three-and-out, and they took advantage with a touchdown drive that ended in Nussmeier finding Trey’Dez Green for the lead score with 12:18 left in the game.

Clemson’s offense continued to stall, as they turned the ball over on downs with roughly nine minutes to go, but had another chance with 4:26 to go. However, each of Klubnik’s first two passes fell incomplete, and a false start backed them up even more, forcing them to punt.

The Clemson defense forced a three-and-out, giving Clemson one more shot with 1:46 to go at their own 43 and a timeout.

They quickly got inside the red zone, but on 4th and 4, LSU forced Klubnik to shorten his throw on a rollout, preserving their 17-10 victory.

Nussmeier impressed to begin his second year as a starter, completing 28 of his 38 passes for 230 yards.

Klubnik went 19-for-38 for 230 yards, and their rushing was non-existent. Lead rusher Adam Randall tallied only 16 yards on five carries, albeit one of them being a touchdown.

The Crimson Tide entered Saturday’s game with wins in each of its past 23 season openers. • Ex-NFL ref criticizes assessment of new college football rule during Georgia Tech-Colorado game

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Former NFL referee Terry McAulay was unhappy with how college football referees utilized the new injury rule in Georgia Tech’s win over Colorado on Friday night.

McAulay pointed to a crucial decision with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets and Buffaloes were tied at 20 apiece. A Georgia Tech player went down with an injury and medical personnel came out onto the field to check on him. However, Georgia Tech was charged one of their three timeouts because of the stoppage in play.

The NCAA made it a point to crack down on players faking injuries. If a player on the field presents as injured after the ball is spotted for the next play, that player’s team will be charged a timeout. If the team doesn’t have any timeouts remaining, a 5-yard delay-of-game penalty would be assessed to the team.

In this instance, McAulay disagreed with Big 12 Conference officials.

“The Big 12 doubles down on being ridiculously over officious regarding the new injury rule. Again, this player was clearly injured at the end of the play, and yet the offense was still charged a TO,” he wrote on X.

COLORADO ADDS MOBILE BATHROOM NEAR TEAM BENCH FOR SEASON OPENER AFTER DEION SANDERS’ BLADDER CANCER TREATMENT

“What makes it worse, the Replay official can communicate to the field about timing of the injury and somehow failed to note it was well before the ball was spotted.”

McAulay made the same point during last weekend’s game between Kansas State and Iowa State.

“We already have an example of why I expressed concerns that this rule would unfairly penalize a team that did nothing wrong. This player is clearly injured and yet because he went down after the ball was spotted, they were charged a timeout,” he wrote. “Even worse, it appears he was demonstrating he was injured before the ball was spotted.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were pictured publicly for the first time since announcing their engagement this week as the couple watched Kelce’s alma mater, the Cincinnati Bearcats, take on Nebraska at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the Grammy Award-winning artist announced their engagement in an Instagram post Tuesday. The caption of the photo, which showed Kelce down on one knee in a garden surrounded by flowers, read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Swift is no stranger to Arrowhead Stadium, as it was the stage for the beginning of their love story.

The pair began dating during Swift’s landmark Eras Tour after Kelce was thwarted in his first attempt to meet Swift at her concert at Arrowhead Stadium in 2023 – a fact he made public during an episode of his “New Heights” podcast. But by September of that year, Swift was back at the stadium, cheering on Kelce alongside his mother.

Nearly two years later, Swift joined Kelce in the suite – this time sporting an engagement ring that was an old-mine brilliant-cut diamond from Kindred Lubeck.
