  • Thamma Box Office Collection Day 4: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika and Nawazuddin Siddiqui film collects over Rs 9 crore net

    Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thamma opened to impressive numbers at the box office, marking yet another successful chapter in the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Released on October 21 during Diwali, the film introduced audiences to the new world of Betal, a space Maddock has owned since Stree and Bhediya. Now well is the film performing well after 4 days of its release? 

    Thamma’s opening day saw a fantastic Rs 23 crore net, followed by Rs 18 crore on Day 2, Rs 12 crore on Day 3, and between Rs 9-10 crore on Day 4, taking its total to Rs 62 crore net approx so far. While there has been a gradual drop amidst the festive season, but the trend is completely in line with post-Diwali patterns. Thamma has found its audience and continues to pull in crowds across metros and tier-2 cities alike. The drop in ticket sales from the second day is about 30 percent, which is normal since most people in the country are now finishing their holiday time. However, places like Gujarat and some areas where Hindi movies are popular are still seeing good numbers.

    What are the key highlights of Thamma? 

    The film’s flavour is its originality, unique storytelling approach, and balance between horror and humour. The fusion of Bhediya’s universe with the newly introduced Betal is the highlight. Interestingly, this opens for future crossovers in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.

    While how the film performs in the coming days needs to be seen, Thamma has a refreshing concept. Now, as it heads into its first week, all eyes are on how far this supernatural entertainer can stretch its winning run at the box office. Thamma is expected to touch R. 90 crore in its 6-day extended weekend. Since there aren’t any big Hindi movie releases until Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De 2, Thamma will have a clear chance to do well at the box office until mid-November.

    Nawazuddin Siddiqui has become a household name today and is known for his portrayals in movies like Black Friday, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur, and more.

    But the National Award-winning actor started his career by doing a minor role in the Aamir Khan starrer Sarfarosh, back in 1999. In an interview, the actor opened up about his experience working with Mr Perfectionist. Read on!

    After making his acting debut with Aamir Khan in Sarfarosh, Nawazuddin Siddiqui again worked with the acclaimed actor in the 2012 crime thriller film Talaash: The Answer Lies Within. He was seen as Tehmur Langda for which Siddiqui won multiple Best Supporting Actor awards.

    While in a conversation with ANI, Nawazuddin Siddiqui went down memory lane and recalled his experience of working with Aamir in both these films. Calling it a ‘remarkable journey’, the Tiku Weds Sheru actor stated, “Sharing the screen with Aamir in both Sarfarosh and Taalaash has been a remarkable journey. Off the sets, our bond was just as strong, full of mutual respect and an unspoken understanding.”

    He further added that Aamir’s dedication and passion for his craft are truly inspiring. “Our discussions often went beyond scripts and scenes, we loved discussing Cinema,” Nawazuddin divulged.

    It has been 25 years that both these talented stars worked together in director John Matthew Matthan’s action thriller film Sarfarosh. To mark this iconic day, a special screening was also hosted in Mumbai wherein the entire cast of the movie reunited after several years.

    At the event, Khan shared that he has been wanting to make a sequel to Sarfarosh for a long time. It’s now that the team is finally serious about it. ANI quotes him saying, “Sarfarosh 2 banni chaiye (Sarfarosh 2 should be made) even I feel that. On the mode we left the film, there was a thought in our mind that we could make part 2.”

    The Lagaan actor added, “Even now I keep telling John (director John Mathew Mathan) to write a good story that we can make Sarfarosh 2. And this time he said that he will give it a shot.” It also features Sonali Bendre in a key role.

    Nawazuddin Siddiqui was refused by a television show

    In an old interview with News 18, Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about his struggling days and revealed that he was repeatedly told that he cannot be an actor and was asked to stop wasting his time. He further added that wherever he went he was told he does not look like an actor and he was just going from office to office. “But finally, it took me 9-10 years. There came directors who were making realistic movies. We emerged with them. Those films never used to work here, but they used to get appreciation at (film) festivals. That’s when commercial filmmakers thought of us as authentic and decided to cast us. They made films with us. That’s how I got acceptance.”

    Nawazuddin Siddiqui further recalled yet another incident when a television show team refused to cast him. He was told that he looks unconventional and that they will have to spend more time putting extra lights. “If we cast you, it will take 1.5 days, we’ll face losses. Better you find something else’.”

    Wanting to become a monk

    Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a recent exclusive chat with Pinkvilla opened up about wanting to be a monk. He explained that he tried this after graduation, he stayed in a dharamshala for 15-20 days and even attempted to be a monk twice or thrice but failed. He further said, “Then I became careless, and someone introduced me to the theatre. When I was working in Baroda, I started my theatre journey from there. Then I went to Delhi for the National School of Drama. However, I would have become a monk, if I hadn’t entered the theatre field.”

    Months after the release of Kantara, its actor-director Rishab Shetty continues to receive love for his Kannada action-thriller. In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about his December meeting with Rishab, and about his fondness for the star. Nawaz had posted pictures from their meeting on Instagram with the caption, “It was super amazing to spend some quality time with you @rishabshettyofficial & @pramodshettyk & team #kantara at my house. Surprisingly @rishabshettyofficial and I have so many things in common that we could talk about it endlessly.” 

    Elaborating about the meeting, Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared, “Rishab and his friends do a lot of theater, and one thing that is special is that our Gurus are the same. We have known each other from earlier, we have spoken earlier. So when he was here, he came over and we spoke. He is in touch with theater, and thank God he is still connected to his roots, his traditional form, and even made a film about it. So since our Gurus are the same, we have had a good association, we are even friends now.” 

    On possible collaboration 

    During their meeting did they discuss a possible collaboration, maybe for Kantara 2? “I can’t say anything now, but let’s hope. Why wouldn’t I want to work with him? He is a wonderful actor, director, and his whole team including Raj Shetty are very talented people,” Nawazuddin Siddiqui said. 

    Meanwhile, Nawaz is presently promoting Kushan Nandy’s Jogira Sara Ra Ra with Neha Sharma, which is scheduled to release on May 12.
