  • iPolish brings color-changing press-on smart nails to CES

    [ad_1]

In the original, and best Total Recall, you may remember a scene in which Rekall’s receptionist changes her nail polish by using a digital pen. Now, after only 35 years, a company came to CES 2026 with a vision for such a gadget that actually works outside of that pricey sci-fi movie. The company is iPolish, and it makes press-on acrylic nails that, when you apply an electric charge, change color almost like magic.

In order to enjoy kaleidoscopic nails, you’ll need to charge the wand, which then connects to your phone. Once you’ve selected your color of choice, you just put the tip of the nail into the wand, and it’ll pass a short charge into the nail to change it. Sadly, the company wouldn’t shed too much light on the process it uses to run the nails but, from my guess, it’s some sort of electrochemical shenanigans going on behind the scenes. All in all, it took around five seconds to change the color of a single nail, so it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

    iPolish (Daniel Cooper for Engadget)

iPolish says that each nail can display 400 colors, and can be changed as many times as the user would like. So, if you’re coordinating your nails with your outfits, you’re not bound to a single color palette in the weeks between salon visits. They’re also surprisingly affordable, with the starter set costing $95 which contains two sets of nails, one in Ballerina cut, one in Squoval. The Ballerinas are relatively short, while the Sqovals are longer.  It’s worth noting that you can’t shape the nails as you’ll break the hardware, so if you don’t like those shapes, you can’t use ‘em.

When it comes time to replace your nails when one breaks or you lose it in some nailbed mishap, you’ll be able to pick up spares for $6.50. Given the theoretical cost of getting your nails re-done on a weekly basis, being able to change color on a whim seems like a bargain. Of course, we won’t be able to speak to iPolish’s quality and reliability until they start shipping, which is presently expected to begin in June 2026.

  • ‘Like a tanning bed for your nails’: Doctor sounds alarm over gel manicures

    [ad_1]

One of the most popular ways to get your nails done is now banned in parts of Europe. And an expert says that should give everyone pause. “I was counseling patients or trying to steer them in other directions or alternatives,” said Dr. Farah Moustafa, a dermatologist and the director of Laser and Cosmetics at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. That included Yara, who has been getting gel manicures regularly for about a decade. “I get them done every two or three weeks,” she said. “It makes my nails look very shiny and hardens them. It also lasts longer.”But when she noticed her nails getting really weak, she turned to Moustafa for advice.”She recommended that I stop getting gel nail polish done,” Yara said. Moustafa said she’s been worried about gel manicures for years, before the European Union banned the polish because of a chemical that may raise concerns about fertility. “The ban was based on some animal studies in which rats were fed large quantities of TPO and they were found to have fertility issues, and it was reproductively toxic,” Moustafa said. TPO stands for trimenthylbenzoyl diphenylphoshine oxide — a long name for a chemical agent that allows the nail polish to harden when exposed to UV light. That’s long been the appeal of gel polish: the shiny seal that makes the color last for weeks instead of days. There have been no scientific studies that definitively establish a link between TPO and health risks in humans. And a ban in the United States is seen as unlikely. Moustafa said, the chemical aside, the UV exposure has always worried her when it comes to gel. “The UV exposure is not good for your hands long-term and does increase your risk of skin cancer of the nail bed,” she said. “It’s like a tanning bed for your nails.”Moustafa suggests patients look at the labels before picking their polish or consider alternatives like dip powder or dazzle dry. For Yara, it was enough to make her hit pause, even though she admits she loves gel polish.”I’m going to try my best to stick with it,” she said. “I’ll probably do it occasionally when I have a wedding or something. But for now, day to day, I think I’m going to stick to regular nail polish.”

  • ‘Half price is fair and anyone expecting otherwise is absurd’: Woman gets charged for full manicure. But she only has one hand

    [ad_1]

A woman has gone viral after being charged for a full manicure at the nail salon. This is despite only having one hand.

In the video, Caitlyn Gianni (@caitlyngiannini) said it was her first time in the salon. She explained that they tried to charge her full price. The only problem is that Gianni only has one hand. As she relayed this to the salon worker, she said they looked “confused.”

    What happened at the salon?

Gianni said she was already feeling “vulnerable” for asking in front of everyone.

“I’m starting to feel a little awkward,” she said. “And then another woman comes up to the checkout, and she says, ‘Is this your first time here?’ And I was like: ‘Yeah, I haven’t been here before.””

The woman allegedly told her that Gianni can get a discount only if she makes this salon her regular salon.

“She basically was saying, if I make this my, like, regular spot, that she’ll give me the discount every time I come,” she added. “So sue me. I told her I would make it my regular spot so that I could get half off. I don’t know if I’ll be going back or not.”

“I’m honestly like, I can’t really hate the player because, like, she’s trying to get more customers, and I think ultimately she probably would have given me half off regardless,” she noted. “But I was kind of like, I honestly respect the hustle, but at the same time, I was like, that’s kind of just so weird to say, like, ‘You only have five fingers, but we’re only gonna give you half off if you promise you’ll come back.’”

She concluded that while she wasn’t “upset” by the incident, she was left baffled. Her clip amassed 3.2 million views.

@caitlyngiannini This was honestly crazy but I respect her trying to get loyal customers #limbdifference #manicure #littlearmsunite ♬ original sound – caitlyngiannini

In the comments, users were divided over whether Gianni should have asked for a refund.

“I totally get why you’d want a discount, but it’s worth remembering that a lot of salon costs don’t change just because there are fewer nails to do—things like cleaning, sanitization, prep, and even helping cover rent and bills,” one wrote. “Yes, it takes a bit less time and product, so a discount makes sense, but 50% is a lot to ask. And bringing it up after the service is already done puts the business in a really tough spot.”

Another added, “I 100% think you are in the right to ask. BUT you’re in the wrong to ask AFTER the service is completed. Prices are on the wall. Moving forward with service means you are chill with price. If you’re not, negotiate before.”

However, a third commenter called the salon’s behaviour “insanity,” noting that it’s “1/2 the nails, 1/2 the products, 1/2 the time….. 1/2 the price! there is zero other way to view it.”

While a fourth echoed, “Half price is fair and anyone expecting otherwise is absurd.”

Ultimately, the consensus seemed to be that while she was right to ask for a discount, it was wrong to ask after the service.

Should people with one hand get discounts on manicures?

This question was also discussed multiple times on various subreddits. For the most part, people agree that those with one hand should get a discount on manicures.

“Paying full price would be ridiculous, but I do think you should bring it up first possibly in booking,” one Redditor wrote. “Mentioning that you only have one hand so you will only need half of the appointment time.”

“I work in a nail salon and I would give a person with one hand a discount,” another agreed.

While a third shared, “I’m actually in school to be a nail tech, so I understand the labor involved with doing manicures. I think it’s absolutely fair to ask for a discount, and personally, if I had a client with only one hand, I would give you a 50% off discount with no hesitation. It’s half the prep time, half the labor, half the amount of product used. Making you pay full price would just be ridiculous.”

When all is said and done, this gives the phrase a “five-fingered discount” a whole new meaning. Gianni didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.

Now that the trend is everywhere, there are plenty of sheer pink polishes on the market to help you find your ideal shade.

The choice is all in the style you’re after. Do you want a sparkly, sheer pink polish? Or maybe a lighter or darker pink shade? How sheer do you prefer? Are you into that glazed donut look? We’ve got you covered today.

Below, I’ve curated a list of 18 sheer pink polishes to get that perfect shade at home. Check them out and nail this trend!

If you want a purple-pink sheer pink nail polish, I recommend trying out LONDONTOWN’S Kur Pink “nail concealer.”

This nail polish will give you a sheer pink nail polish with more of a purple pigment to it (great for hiding any staining caused by self-tanner), but this shade is still subtle enough to wear with any outfit and for any occasion.

    First, what are duck nails?

If you’re wondering what’s up with this trend, let’s do a quick explanation. Duck nails are also known as “flare nails,” to give you an idea of the shape.

    20 Cute Duck Nail Ideas

    1. Bow Nails

If you want a simple but girly nail design with duck nails, I recommend these bow nails.

French nails are a popular type of look to do with duck nails. However, if you want something that will stand out a bit more, this colorful look is perfect.

For this nail look, you will be adding multicolored French tips to your duck nails to give you a fun and colorful French tips look.

    4. Chrome Nails

To achieve this look, you will be using silver chrome and yellow nail polish to recreate this look. You can also make it stand out more by adding some 3D accessories to your nails.

Have you been considering changing your nail shape? Then you might want to consider trying out ballerina nails, which are trending like crazy this year.

If you’ve never heard of ballerina nails before, they are essentially a mix of almond and coffin nails. The shape is rounded on the edges, similar to almond nails, but instead of a rounded tip, ballet nails are more square at the end, like coffin nails.

Think of them as emulating the shape of a ballet slipper.

If you want to try this trendy nail shape this season, I’ve rounded up 17 super cute ballerina nail ideas you should definitely try.

Ballerina Nails: 17 Design Ideas to Try

    1. French

Let’s start with the basics. You can do a classic French nail look on ballerina-shaped nails.

If you want to make your French tips stand out a bit more, I recommend trying the trendy rounded French nail style seen above.

    2. Multicolored Nails

You can also add some color to your ballerina-shaped nails with a multicolored nail design like this one.

To create this multicolored nail look all you need to do is paint each of your nails a different color to make them stand out.

So, pick a bunch of your favorite colors to try this yourself. Or, purchase these press-on nails, which would be perfect for Easter!

    3. Boho Chic

If you want a nail design that is different and fun, I recommend trying this boho chic take on ballerina nails.

You could do this detailed look on any nail color, but I love the dusty purple base used here. For the details, you just need a color that pops, like the white and red combo listed here.

To see exactly how to get a boho chic look like this one, watch this video tutorial!

    4. Classic Red

What’s also great about the ballerina nail shape is it looks even more elegant and classy when painted with solid colors like this red shade.

So, if you have a favorite shade of red or another nail color you would like to use to create a solid colored nail look, the ballerina nail shape will make it look even better.

    5. 3D Nail Art

If you really want your ballerina nail look to stand out, I recommend trying a 3D nail art look!

For example, you could try out this super cool 3D strawberry nail look that incorporates a design that looks like you actually have strawberries on your nails.

    6. French Shadow

You might also be interested in doing a blinged-out French nail look! And, of course, it looks extra amazing o ballerina nails.

A French shadow nail look is a different type of French manicure. Instead of the round tips at the end of your nails, the French tips are slanted.

Also, you can add some rhinestones to this look to give your nails some sparkle!

    7. Smokey Marble

For a really fun and creative look using ballerina-shaped nails, try this smokey marble nail look!

This nail look will give the illusion that your nails are really made out of marble.

This look is definitely more of an advanced type of nail design, but if you are dying to try this look, definitely check out this video tutorial to see how it’s done.

    8. Little Ballerina Nail Design

For a super cute and girly nail design that you can try on ballerina-shaped nails, I love this literal take on ballerina nails.

This look will give you a cute nail design using pink and white with ballerina-themed designs like a ballet shoe and bows.

And, to make your life easier, you can purchase these press-on nails to get this exact look yourself.

    9. Accent Nail Design

Another fun but subtle design you can do with ballerina-shaped nails is an accent nail look.

For this kind of look, you will be painting your nails all the same color except for your accent nail. The accent nail can be used to add cute designs of your choice.

For example, I love this adorable heart outline design for an accent nail, which could be done in any color of your choice.

    10. Chrome

Chrome is also another type of nail look that looks cute when paired with ballerina-shaped nails!

For example, you could try out this super pretty pink shade for a bright and girly chrome nail look.

    11. Rose Gold Design

This rose gold nail look is another fun design you can do on ballerina-shaped nails to make them stand out.

For this look, you will use sparkly rose gold nail polish and rose gold chrome to create an extra-sparkly rose gold nail look.

You can also make this look more fun by adding a rose gold drip design in chrome!

    12. Sparkly Ombre Tips

Another type of nail look that looks perfect on ballerina-shaped nails is ombre! But, if you are looking for a way to change your usual ombre nail look or make it have something different, I recommend adding sparkle to the tips of your nails.

This can be done on the classic nude-to-white ombre look or even on ombre looks with more color!

    13. Colorful French Design

If you can’t decide between a solid color nail look and a French nail look, you can do both with these nails!

These press-on nails from Etsy use a super cute purple shade to create a nail look with French tips.

This look is pretty easy to recreate at home with your favorite nail polish color, or you can purchase these press-on nails to get this ballerina-shaped nail look.

    14. Neutral Nails

Neutral nails like these also look great with the ballerina nail shape. So, if you want a subtle nail look that is elegant and classy, I recommend trying out this look.

For this look, you will want to find your favorite neutral or glossy nail polish to paint your ballerina-shaped nails.

And what you will love about this look is that it will work for longer or shorter nails.

    15. Rhinestone Nails

On the opposite side of the style spectrum, you can also do glam looks with the ballerina-nail shape!

For example, this nail look combines rhinestones and sparkle nail polish to create a glam and sparkly design on ballerina-shaped nails.

So, if this is the kind of nail vibe you are going for, check out this video, which will show you exactly how to get this rhinestone nail look.

    16. Lilac Nails

You can also use other fun colors to create cool designs like this lilac nail look!

This nail look combines grey and lilac nail polish with some added sparkle to give you a glittery nail design that you will love.

Just check out this video tutorial for some inspo and details on how to get this look at home!

    17. Baby Boomer Nails

Finally, baby boomer nails are another type of nail look that looks great on ballerina-shaped nails.

Baby boomer nails are basically just your classic ombre nail design, with a neutral base that fades into white at the tips.

These press-ons from Etsy are the perfect choice if you want a subtle and elegant design to complement ballerina-shaped nails.

If You Love the Vanilla Girl Aesthetic, Here’s How to Do Your Nails to Match

    [ad_1]

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

Show off your inner sweetness with these vanilla girl nail ideas!

The vanilla girl aesthetic has been trending recently, so you may be curious about how you can get this super cute look!

One of the ways that you can achieve this aesthetic is through your nails! There are some adorable nail shapes, colors, and designs that you can do that will help you get the vanilla girl look.

In order to achieve this kind of look, you will want to go for softer nail shapes, shorter-length nails, and subtle colors and designs.

    {RELATED POST: How to Transform Your Room Into the Vanilla Girl Aesthetic}

So, if you are trying to bring vanilla girl vibes to your life and want to know what kind of nail looks you can wear to help you achieve this aesthetic, read on for tons of tips and ideas.

    Elements of Vanilla Girl Nails

    Soft Shapes

If you want vanilla girl nails, you should start by opting for softer shapes.

Softer shapes means nail shapes like round, almond, or rounded square nails that have an elegant look. No sharp edges or points!

    Shorter Lengths

Short nails rule for the vanilla girl look. So, this aesthetic is perfect for those of us who like to show off our natural nails — meaning it’s great if you’re on a budget!

    Subtle Shades

Next, let’s talk colors. Again, soft and subtle are the keys here.

For the vanilla girl aesthetic, you will want to use subtle shades like neutral tones, light pinks, or — you saw this coming — white or cream nail polish.

But this doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with your looks. You can also totally use chrome or sparkly nail polish to make your nails stand out, so long as you stick within the color theme.

    Themed Designs

Also, you may be interested in doing a nail design to spice up your nails rather than just using basic cream, white, or pink shades.

You can still do nail art for your vanilla girl aesthetic nails; the key is to use subtle nail polish shades and classy, simple designs.

For example, a micro French-tip mani with light pink nail polish (above) is a perfect vanilla girl look. To add some design to your nails, you can add a cute mini bow in light pink, as seen in the photo.

Vanilla Girl Nail Ideas to Try

Now that we’ve gone over the basics of vanilla girl nails, here are some specific ideas to get your inspiration going.

    1. Sparkly Tips

For those of us who like some sparkle on our nails, the good news is you can do glitter nails and still get a vanilla girl vibe.

I recommend using a nude, light pink, or clear base coat and adding a light coat of glittery nail polish to the tips of your nails.

This will give you a subtle yet sparkly look that will be perfect for the vanilla girl aesthetic.

    2. Pearl Chrome

Chrome nails are also perfect for the vanilla girl aesthetic. For example, pearl chrome nails like these will give you a soft vanilla girl nail look!

What you will love about this nail look is that it is super easy to do at home. Just check out this video tutorial to see how you can get these pearl chrome nails yourself.

    {RELATED POST: All Our Favorite Pearl Nail Ideas for Classy Vibes}

    3. Glazed French Nails

You have probably heard of the “glazed donut nails” that became popular because of Hailey Bieber. However, you may not have seen glazed French nails.

This is the perfect nail look for those of us who love the look of glazed donut nails but want to add a bit more to it.

To achieve this look, you just need to create a classic French tip and add a thin layer of chrome nail polish on top. The video above will show you how it’s done.

    4. Vanilla Tips

If you love the look of French tip nails but want to try something different, you will love vanilla French tips.

To achieve this look, use a neutral cream or beige color for the tips of your nails instead of the usual white French tips.

This will add something different to your nails and will fit perfectly with the vanilla girl aesthetic!

    5. Dotted Pearl Nails

You might also be interested in adding some accessories to your nails. If so, I recommend adding pearls!

Pearl nails, like these pearl French-tip nails, will give you an elegant and fun nail look and help you achieve the vanilla girl aesthetic.

For this look, you need only do your usual French tip nail look and add a couple of pearls to each nail. So simple and so pretty!

    Product recommendations:

    6. Strawberry Nails

If you really want to get creative with the nail designs that you do, you could opt for a cute strawberry nail design!

Strawberry nails like these adorable light pink strawberry nails also perfectly fit in with the vanilla girl aesthetic. You can make this look stand out even more with some 3D bows and pearls.

If you are interested in achieving this kind of design at home, you can purchase these super cute press-on nails on Etsy.

    7. Abstract Nails

You can also totally do a more abstract nail design that still fits the vanilla girl vibe.

For example, a swirl nail look like this one is perfect because it uses neutral shades, white nail polish, and some light gold glitter to create a stunning yet subtle effect.

    8. Vanilla Chrome

For a simple but gorgeous vanilla girl nail look, I also love these vanilla chrome nails!

As opposed to the chrome nails we discussed earlier, which are usually bright white or nude with a coating of chrome powder on top, these vanilla chrome nails have a golden metallic effect that’s a little more interesting than your standard chrome.

    Product recommendations:

    9. Pearl French Nails

Adding pearls to your nail looks is a great way to get a subtle vanilla girl design! So, if you love the look of pearl-decorated nails, you might also want to try this fun pearl outline nail design.

If you want this exact look, you can purchase these super cute press-ons via Etsy.

    10. Multi-Colored Design

You can also add some color to your nails, but you will just want to make sure it is subtle to match the vanilla girl aesthetic.

For example, this super cute multi-colored nail look with 3D flowers will give you the soft and dreamy vibes of the vanilla girl aesthetic.

If you are obsessed with this nail design and want to get it at home, you can just purchase these press-on nails from Etsy.

    11. Twinkle Star Nails

If you want to add some accessories to your nails but want something other than pearls, rhinestones are a great option to fit the vanilla girl aesthetic.

You can add rhinestones to your nails to give them sparkle while also making a super cute design, like this twinkling star nail design.

And, to make your life easier, you can purchase these exact press-on nails to get the look!

    12. Cherry Nails

Fruit nail designs like cherries will also help you to get the vanilla girl aesthetic!

A subtle cherry nail design like this one is a super cute and fun look to help you get the vanilla girl vibe. You could also use a lighter shade of pink if you really wanted to lean into vanilla girl.

To achieve this look, add some mini cherries to your standard french nails using a dotting tool. You can also enhance the look, as seen above, by outlining your French tips with pink nail polish.

    13. Pastel 3D Nails

If you want a nail look that will really stand out while still giving off vanilla girl vibes, these girly 3D floral nails are perfect!

While 3D nails are certainly bold, these pretty press-ons from Etsy are still very vanilla girl thanks to their muted pink and cream tones and focus on subtle floral and bow designs.

If you have a girly sense of style, run, don’t walk, to snag these press-ons.

    14. Micro French Tips

If you love the look of French tips, another one of the best ways to get the vanilla girl aesthetic is by doing micro French tip nails!

What you will love about this kind of look is that it can be done on basically any nail shape or nail length.

Just check out this video to see how you can get micro French tips at home.

    15. Vanilla Latte Nails

You may have heard of vanilla latte nails and you may be wondering how to actually get this type of nail look!

And, although it sounds complex and special, it is actually super simple. You only need to pick out your favorite shade of creamy beige or light brown nail polish to paint your nails.

OPI’s “Coconuts Over OPI” ($11.99 on Amazon) is a popular color to use for vanilla latte nails.

    16. Subtle Floral Designs

You can also do subtle floral designs if you want unique nails that still fit with vanilla girl.

For example, this adorable design with mini daisies will give you a subtle and simple nail look that you can totally do at home!

To DIY this, you can use a dotting tool with white polish, or simply grab some inexpensive daisy nail stickers to apply on top of light pink polish.

    17. Pink Pearl Nails

Finally, we have a look that combines many of the above designs into one: a pink pearl chrome nail look.

Once again, this design is easy to achieve with your favorite shade of pale pink polish and some chrome nail powder. You can also freehand the bow design or use a bow nail sticker on top.

Which vanilla nail look from this list is your favorite?

  • Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Beer Both Wore This $12 Nail Polish to the Grammys

Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Beer Both Wore This $12 Nail Polish to the Grammys

    [ad_1]

Last night, the 66th annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles. While there were many notable beauty looks to discuss, including Taylor Swift’s Schiaparelli Couture dress and Miley Cyrus’s “golden goddess” makeup, we noticed something that would have otherwise slipped subtly under the radar. Two Gen Z celebs walked the pre-show red carpet with classic nude manicures that were created with the exact same drugstore nail polish, and it’s only $12. As far as red carpet beauty moments go, this one couldn’t be easier to re-create. Keep scrolling to see each celeb’s manicure and the nail polish used and learn the exact steps it takes to re-create it.

Yoko Sakakura is the celebrity nail artist who created Rodrigo’s manicure. “Tonight, we decided to switch it up from Olivia’s usual dark and edgy nails,” she said in a press release. “OPI has the prettiest classic shades, and we specifically chose two of my favorite natural tones to capture the same elegant aesthetic as her cream dress adorned in crystals.”. She used OPI’s salon-only gel nail polish, but lucky for us, we can re-create the look at home using the exact same shades of the brand’s traditional nail polish. In other words, we can get the look without a UV lamp. Sakakura started by prepping Rodrigo’s nails, and then she applied a base coat and cured it. For our purposes, we’ll use OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat ($12). Then, it’s time for nail color.

First, she applied a thin coat of the brand’s iconic shade Put It in Neutral, which is a pink-beige.

Then, she applied a thin coat of another iconic shade, Bubble Bath, over top. (This is a classic sheer pink and a Who What Wear team favorite.) Sakakura finished off the simple yet effective combo with a layer of topcoat. Again, she used the salon-only gel version, but we’ll use OPI’s Top Coat ($12). It’s as easy as that.

Sreynin Peng is the celebrity nail artist who created Madison Beer’s manicure. “Keeping it very classic, we went with two popular OPI shades, Do You Take Lei Away? and Put It in Neutral, for Madison’s nail look,” she said in a press release. “Madison has amazing nails, so we kept the same almond shape that she regularly sports, which can really elevate any nail look. This combined with the layering of the shades offered a timeless nail that perfectly complemented Madison’s gown.” Again, OPI’s salon-only gel nail polish was used, but we can re-create the look with the same shades in traditional nail lacquer. Just as before, we’ll start by prepping our nails and using OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat ($12) to set the foundation for color.

Once the base coat was dry, Peng applied a coat of this muted beige onto Beer’s almond-shaped nails.

Then, she added a layer of Put It in Neutral over the top. The final step was to apply a topcoat. Again, we’ll use OPI’s Top Coat ($12). That’s it—four easy steps to re-creating a red carpet manicure.

We love this elegant muted rose.

This soft brown is so pretty.

Essie’s Ballet Slippers is another drugstore icon.

Chanel has some of the best neutral nail polishes.

We love the glossy finish of this nail polish.

20+ Brown Nail Polish Shades Fashion People, Editors, and Celebs Wear on Repeat

    [ad_1]

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been partial to neutral nail polish shades I can count on to complement my dark skin tone while working well with the bright whites, blues, and earth tones that make up the bulk of my wardrobe. Despite this, until recently, brown nail polish was never my first pick when faced with an expansive selection of shades at the salon. Here’s the thing—I spent over 11 years of my childhood avoiding anything other that OPI’s Bubble Bath, Put in Neutral, and Sweet Heart due to my dance studio’s strict rule of keeping our nails natural-looking, clean, and clipped at all times.

Little did I know that as a melanin-blessed ballerina, there were about twice as many shades of brown across a number of brands that were my nude. Now, as a beauty editor, I’ve come to the conclusion, based on expert findings and my own exploration with products, that neutral nail polish shades, particularly brown colors, are perpetually in style. Year after year, shades of brown are spotted on and off the runways, worn by award-winning celebrities on red carpets and all the fashion people populating your Instagram Explore page.

Keep reading to take a look at some of the trendiest brown nail colors that we’ll be seeing on only the most stylish people this season, from OPI’s cult-classic Espresso Yourself to the ever-luxurious Les Mains Hermès Nail Enamel in Brun Bistre. I’ve even provided a few of my go-to manicure tools to get the perfect nail look every time. You’re welcome!

  • Men in Hollywood Are Challenging Gender Norms Around Nail Art – POPSUGAR Australia

Men in Hollywood Are Challenging Gender Norms Around Nail Art – POPSUGAR Australia

    [ad_1]

As the conversations around beauty have evolved, so have the people who are actively claiming their places in the beauty community. From the rise of acne advocates to the normalization of traditional face tattoos in media, what was once an intentionally exclusive community has grown to include people from all walks of life. Nowhere is that more apparent than with the rise of the “menicure.”

Men wearing nail polish was popularized in the ’70s and ’80s when musicians like Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Robert Smith, all had manicures as a part of their aesthetics, but “menicures” actually date back much further than that. “A number of Old Kingdom (c. 2575-2150 BCE) elite tomb chapels include scenes of men receiving nail treatments,” Elizabeth Frood, associate professor of Egyptology at the University of Oxford, previously told POPSUGAR.

Today, we’ve seen a rise in men wearing nail polish and experimenting with their beauty routines. Most recently, Dwyane Wade’s nails were a topic of discussion when he wore a black and red Miami Heat-themed manicure during his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in January 2024. Even still, performers like A$AP Rocky and Bad Bunny have made nail art a part of their signature styles, proving to naysayers there is no gender binary in beauty, especially in the nail space. With that, there has also been a rise in brands created by celebrity men. Machine Gun Kelly revealed that he was working on his own nail-polish brand, Un/Dn Laqr, in April 2021. Shortly after, Harry Styles announced the launch of his nail-polish line, Pleasing, in November. Tyler the Creator became the latest to throw his hat into the beauty game with the launch of Golf le Fleur, which features three nail polishes, in December of the same year.

Because there has been so much inspiration going around as of late, we rounded up the best male celebrities that you can follow to recreate their looks.

11 Winter Nail Colors That Always Look So Elevated

    [ad_1]

We have seen natural-looking nude polishes reign supreme in every season of 2023 so far, and winter will be no exception. “The great thing about a nude nail is that it’s very flattering and can give the appearance of longer, slender fingers. Nudes are also a great base for any minimal nail-art designs. If you’re someone who isn’t able to wear polish for work reasons, a nude nail is a great way of looking polished without drawing attention to your nails,” says Shelton.

Our top tip is to shop for a sheer polish—they tend to work across all skin tones and make mistakes harder to spot.

In case you missed it, the 81st annual Golden Globes took place last night in Los Angeles. There were many notable beauty looks, but it should come as no surprise that Margot Robbie was among them. The actress paired her hot-pink custom Armani Privé dress with a glowing complexion and glossy hair. In my opinion, the look was complete and utter perfection—especially when you consider the underrated (and fairly unnoticed) element that took her Barbie commitment to a whole new level…I’m talking about her barely-there manicure.

Nail Artist Betina Goldstein created a nude manicure that matched Robbie’s skin tone perfectly. Usually, nail experts recommend choosing a nude nail polish that’s one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone for contrast, but Goldstein opted for an exact match..and for good reason. Goldstein posted a picture of Robbie’s nails on her Instagram page, explaining, “For Margot’s nails, I wanted them to blend in with her skin to create the illusion of Barbie doll hands.”

Coral Nails Are About to Take Over—Here Are the Best Shades for Every Skin Tone

    [ad_1]

Is it just me, or is coral one of the best nail polish colors out there? I can already hear some of you disagreeing, but let me plead my case. It’s always on-trend, looks gorgeous on every skin tone, and adds the perfect pop of color to any outfit.

Still not convinced? Well then, let me bust out the big guns. I asked celebrity nail artist Queenie Nguyen and Mazz Hanna, a celebrity manicurist and the founder of Mazz Hanna Beauty, to back me up. Both wholeheartedly agree that coral is the new It shade. “Coral nail polish is one of the most universally flattering polishes out there, and its bright pop instantly elevates your mood as soon as you look down at your hands or feet,” Hanna says. If you’re curious about the coral nail polishes each of them always has on hand, keep scrolling for their top picks and a few of our other favorites.

  • Chanel's “Vamp” Might Be The Most Sought-After Nail Polish in History—12 Dupes

Chanel's “Vamp” Might Be The Most Sought-After Nail Polish in History—12 Dupes

    [ad_1]

Myths can be a big part of a beauty brand’s DNA. Some of the most iconic beauty products are linked to an epic origin story. Take Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain, initially made as a nipple tint for exotic dancers, or how La Mer was invented after its founder suffered burns in a lab accident. (He also consulted astrology and played a specific soundtrack for each batch.) Then there’s Chanel’s Vamp, aka Rouge Noir, a whole other ballgame. The dark, blood-red, almost-black shade was everything in the mid-90s and hard to come by as it was constantly selling out. (Thankfully, there were tons of dupes for teens like me who didn’t have a Chanel-friendly budget.) Almost 30 years later, Vamp remains one of Chanel’s best-selling nail polish shades.

Vamp first debuted in March 1994 at Chanel’s Fall 1994 ready-to-wear show in Paris (an iconic collection that featured gold-chain, cell phone, and water bottle holders, which would later inspire Mona May’s costume design in Clueless). Vamp’s legacy includes a Chanel makeup artist coloring over a red nail with a Sharpie; another has Uma Thurman wearing the shade in Pulp Fiction. Though, neither seems to be true.

Two days before the Chanel show, the company’s director of the house’s makeup-creation studio, Heidi Morawetz, and Dominique Moncourtois, the international director of makeup creation, mixed red and black pigments in Chanel’s studio kitchen until they came up with the color. Morawetz told Interview magazine in 2011 that she was inspired by how eyes and nails look black in black-and-white photos. When editors peeped at the models’ gothic nails, it became an instant hit. “The journalists saw it in the show, and they thought it was incredible, “What’s this color?” The Americans did it right away because they could just put it on the counter. So it came out in America before it did here in Paris,” recalled Morawetz.

2024 is almost here! That means there will be a bunch of new nail looks that you will want to try for the new year.

There were so many great nail trends in 2023, but I am sure you are wondering what kind of nails will be trendy in the upcoming year.

To help keep you in style, I have compiled a list of 24 different nail trends for 2024 that you should try this year. So, check out the list below to get some ideas and design inspo for your fresh nail looks!

    1. Embellished Nails

One nail trend that you should try out in 2024 is embellished nails. Embellished nails usually will have gems or some kind of nail accessories added to make the nail look stand out!

For example, this super cool embellished nail look is a great example of a design that you could do in 2024 by adding gems and 3D designs. More is more!

    2. Aura Nails

You may have seen aura nails before because they have recently become a trendy nail look. If not, they will be a perfect nail design to try in 2024 if you haven’t already!

For those of us who have never seen or heard of aura nails before, the above is an example of an aura nail design using a darker red nail polish shade.

To create the aura nail design above, you will want to use a darker shade of nail polish around your nails, and then in the center, add a lighter nail polish shade. You can also reverse the colors and do dark in the middle with light on the outside.

    3. Holographic Nails

Holographic nails like these are also a fun type of nail that you can totally wear in 2024 to stay trendy!

Holographic nails will definitely make your nails stand out and will give you a shiny nail look that you will love. It’s very Y2K and so pretty.

Just check out this video tutorial to see how to get a holographic nail look for 2024!

    4. Lavender Nails

Hailey Bieber has definitely had a huge influence on nail trends, and she has done it again with lavender nails!

Lavender nails have become a popular nail trend after Hailey Bieber showed off her cute lavender nail look.

What’s great about this type of look is you can go the simple route and just paint your nails lavender, or you can add some design to it, as shown in this video, to make the look more fun!

    5. Mirror Chrome Nails

Chrome nails like these rose gold nails are also another shiny nail look that will be great to try in 2024. Chrome nails were super popular in 2023, and they will also be a fun type of nail look to wear in 2024!

And, to make your nails look slightly different from the usual silver or white chrome nails, you can go for a color like this gorgeous rose gold.

    6. Negative Space Nail Art

One nail design you may not have seen before is this negative space nail art look! A negative space nail art look is a design that leaves part of your nails without any color.

For example, this is a negative space nail art design using dark blue nail polish and some gold glitter, which gives you a design on the ends of your nails.

This is just one example of the types of looks you can create with a negative space nail art design, but there are so many more, and you can get creative with your look!

    7. Metallic Accent Nail Art

Another fun nail trend for 2024 for those who love shiny or sparkly nail looks is a metallic accent nail art design like this one!

With this design, you will be getting a nail look with a base coat, and then some added metallic details to create a super cool design that you will love.

Just watch this video tutorial to see a great example of a nail look you can create at home with metallic accents!

    8. Blue Nails

Not only will lavender nails be a great option for 2024, but you may also want to try blue nails!

Blue nails are definitely going to be trendy in 2024. What’s great about blue nails is that you can create different types of designs with blue nail polish, or you can go the simple route and just pick your favorite shade of blue!

For example, if you want a simple design with some sparkle, check out this royal blue nail look with silver sparkles.

    9. Mismatched Nails

For those of us who like to do a bunch of different types of designs on our nails, you might want to try out a mismatched nail look for 2024!

A mismatched nail look basically means that you do different designs on each of your nails to create a nail look with multiple designs. For example, this nail look combines a checkered, polka dot, and rose design to create a fun nail look!

    10. Chrome Detailing

If you love chrome nails but want to try something different than just a simple chrome nail look, you may want to consider trying out chrome details on your nails!

You can create a super cool design using chrome on your nails to create a look that will make your nails stand out in 2024.

You can even get really creative and use 3D chrome details to make a nail design like this one using gold chrome! (These nails are press-ons so you can buy them to get the exact look, too.)

    11. Chrome French Nails

Chrome will definitely be a hot trend to try in 2024 if you haven’t already! And, for those of us who love French nails, you might want to add it to your usual nail look by using chrome on the tips of your nails.

So, the next time you go to get your nails done but you are looking to do a different type of French nail for something more trendy, definitely try out chrome on the tips of your nails.

    12. 3D French Tip Designs

Another French Tip nail look that will be trending for 2024 is the 3D French tips nail look like this!

With 3D French tips, you can make your usual French nail look stand out more with some creative designs.

Check out these nails for some inspo on what you should do when creating a 3D French tip nail look!

    13. Square French Nails

Square nails like these have become popular again, so you will definitely want to try some square nail looks in 2024!

For example, a great nail look for square nails is always the French nail look, and there are so many variations you can try. For instance, this black and white nail look with square-shaped nails looks so fresh and cool.

    14. 3D Chrome French Tip Designs

If you want to get really creative with French tip nail looks in 2024, you may want to try out a 3D chrome french tip nail look like this one, seen at New York Fashion Week last season.

With this nail look, you will add 3D designs to your French tips to make this nail look even more fun.

For some inspo for some 3D designs that you can add to French tip nails, definitely check out this nail look with chrome tips and 3D detailing!

    15. Artistic Nail Designs

For those of us who like to be more on the artsy side with our looks, you may be interested in doing a more artistic nail design like this one in 2024!

This will give you a trendy nail look and will also let you get really creative with how you want your nails to look.

For example, you can do multiple different designs as seen on these nails with super cool patterns!

    16. Side Tip French Nails

Side-tip French nails is another cool, abstract variation on French tips that will be trending in 2024.

If you have never seen a side French tip nail look before, it is basically just like doing the French tip but only on half of the nail.

For example, this side French tip look uses white nail polish to create a simple and cute design that may be just what you want in 2024!

    17. Abstract French Tips

You can also get super creative with your French tips by adding abstract designs! For example, this French tip look adds abstract designs to the tips of the nails to make them stand out.

And, to make the designs really pop, you can use some bright colors like this gorgeous shade of orange to create this abstract swirl design!

    18. Mismatched French Tips

Yup, we have another French tip variation. 2024’s nail trends feature French nails quite heavily!

Here, we have an example of mismatched French tips, which combine abstract nails with side french tips.

I’m absolutely obsessed with this look, which uses gold glitter and white nail polish to create a gorgeous sparkly French tips design! It’s so glam and would be amazing for parties or formals.

    19. Outlined French Tips

Another one of my favorite French tip looks that I definitely recommend you try in 2024 is the outlined French tips! With this look, you will be basically outlining where you would usually put your French tips with whatever nail polish color you would like.

And, to make the look even more fun, I recommend adding some color to your nails with some colorful nail polish to create the outline design. You can do this in any of your favorite shades so it’s super customizable to your aesthetic.

    20. Gem Nails

Gem nails are another fun nail trend for 2024. To create a gem nail look, you add some pearls and/or or rhinestones to your nails to make them look super cute.

You can add as many as you like or even get creative with the designs that you create using gems, but to have a more trendy look in 2024, you should go for a look like this one!

With this look, you will be adding just a few gems to your nails to create a simple but super cute look.

    21. Black & White Nail Designs

Black & white nail designs also will give you something fun and new to try in 2024, so if you have been looking for some black and white nail looks to try, I recommend checking out this nail look!

This look uses black and white nail polish to create some French tips as well as star designs on the nails to add more to the look.

You can also use a touch of color to make the look pop! For example, this light pink shade looks gorgeous when paired with black and white designs.

    22. 3D Chrome Rainbow Nails

If you love chrome nails and you are also interested in designs that you can do by adding some 3D detailing, you may want to try out these trendy 3D rainbow chrome nails in 2024!

This is definitely a complicated look but it incorporates quite a few 2024 nail trends into one. I’d recommend getting it done at a salon, but check out the video above to see how it’s achieved.

    23. Ombre Nails

Ombre nails have been popular for years now and this will continue into 2024. As always, they are a great nail look to do if you want something simple but also trendy.

If you have never tried ombre nails before, I highly recommend trying something like the example above, with rhinestones on the bottoms of the nails, because it is perfect for basically any occasion. (It’s giving classy nails.)

    24. Waterdrop Nails

sub)투명젤로만 완성하는 영롱한 물방울네일, 유리알네일, 셀프네일아트/ waterdrop nails, clear nails, nails tutorial

Another super cool nail look you should try in 2024 is the waterdrop nail look! If you have never heard of the waterdrop nail look before, it basically makes your nails resemble a waterdrop with clear nail polish and nail extensions!

This nail look would be best with the almond nail shape to really get that waterdrop look. Just check out this video tutorial to see how the look is done.

If there’s one thing we know about Jennifer Lopez, it’s that she always serves major nail inspo. Last night, she showed up to the Elle Women in Hollywood event with what’s sure to be the season’s most copied manicure. Lopez wore a silver breastplate, a black skirt, and completed the whole ensemble with glitzy, squoval-shaped nails.

“We both agreed that a longer length was the way to go when receiving The Icon Award, so we went with a medium to long, tapered square-shaped look,” says celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik. “We wanted to complement Jen’s black and chrome dress by Grace Ling with a modern take on the classic nude. We chose CND’s Frostbite for the perfect champagne nude with an emerald iridescent shimmer for her hands, and CND’s Poison Plum, a deep, rich sparkly plum shade for her pedicure.”

The best part of JLo’s holiday party-ready manicure is that it couldn’t be easier to recreate at home. Keep reading for the exact nail products that Bachik used on Lopez. Bachik used the in-salon gel versions of each product, but they’re all available in normal polish for those hoping to recreate at home.
