  • Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, & Cole Escola team up for a Miss Piggy movie | The Mary Sue

    [ad_1]

Being a fan of The Muppets is nothing short of a roller coaster. One minute, you’re legitimately mourning the loss of decades-old and lovingly-made theme park attractions starring the crew. The next, you’re being treated to the news of a new Disney+ special from Seth Rogen and Sabrina Carpenter, which could lead to a full-blown revival of The Muppet Show. And apparently, that’s not even the best new Muppet project to be in the works this year.

A solo movie centered around Miss Piggy is in development. Not only that, but she has some pretty beloved names working behind the scenes to bring her story to life. Oscar-winning actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are producing the project, with Tony-winning actor and playwright Cole Escola writing the script. The Internet-breaking news was announced by Lawrence during a recent appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast.

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to,” Lawrence revealed. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”

While a lot of details still remain under wraps, Lawrence did tease that the project is “fucked up” and “really dark.” She was also asked on the podcast if she and Stone would appear in the movie, and answered with an enthusiastic, “I think so, we have to.”

This will be Miss Piggy’s first solo outing, outside of the one-off variety television special The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show in 1982. It’s unclear, at this point, if the movie will end up in theaters or on Disney+ (although with these names attached, the former feels more than possible). Either way, in a week of movie news that already included the delightful reveal of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning for a new The Mummy movie, this Miss Piggy bombshell somehow managed to break the Internet even further.

    Believe in Moi!

There’s so much to process here. The idea of any combination of Lawrence, Stone, and Escola working together already sounds like a dream. Both Lawrence and Stone have evolved their careers in beautiful ways in recent years, taking on projects either in front of or behind the camera that manage to surprise us. And over the past year, with the smash success of their Broadway play Oh, Mary!, Escola has quickly established themselves as a creative force to watch. They made history earlier this year as the first non-binary performer to win the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play, and their writing on the play was also among the finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

But when you fold in the reveal that their collaboration is going to be on a Miss Piggy movie, it is nothing short of magical. What glamorous and bizarre journey could the movie take us on? What guest stars could we expect? What is the over-under for how many karate chops we’ll see onscreen? The possibilities are endless.

As some tweets celebrating the news have already joked, this is one of those headlines where every sentence is better than the last, and reads like “when people say their dogs favorite words to get them riled up.” Even if the Miss Piggy movie still remains in development, I know I’m definitely not alone in already being riled up for it.

  • The Muppet Show is returning with Sabrina Carpenter in 2026 and somebody pinch me | The Mary Sue

    [ad_1]

    Sabrina Capenter and The Muppets

Sabrina Carpenter is joining The Muppets in a new Disney+ special event. That’s right, this is a sentence that exists out in the universe. Disney+ and The Muppet Show announced a new special on social media. Unfortunately, you’re gonna have to wait till 2026 to see this musical special. But, the buzz is already there for people who love The Muppets and can’t get enough of one of our brightest young pop stars. Sometimes, these kinds of things just spontaneously generate out of the ether.

The Muppet Show returning in this fashion makes all the sense in the world. After MuppetVision 3D closed up shop this year, there was an entire multiple-day discourse cycle on what the future looked like for Jim Henson’s delightful creations. It’s no secret that the offerings featuring the Muppets haven’t been as omnipresent as fans would have liked in the streaming era.

There have been a couple of movies on Disney+. But, you would expect so much more with Disney owning the entire library and the increasing popularity of these characters period now, all the Sabrina Carpenter fans can delight in new material from her and these favorites at the same time.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Disney is giving the fans the exact sort of content that they all ask for. One peek at the social media posts for The New Muppet Show has the account @muppetherstory echoing that exact sentiment. As online arguments bubble around the future for Henson’s Workshop and the characters, this is an easy way to introduce a brand new audience to this distinct kind of magic.

Think about it, The Muppet Show is one of the easiest ways to bring in a ton of musically inclined celebrities to do fun bits with instantly recognizable characters in a variety show environment. It could run for literally 8 reasons if Disney+ really played their cards right. In true streaming era fashion, This feels like a test balloon for a larger move from Disney with The Muppets overall.

Strangely, it’s been a decent period to be a Muppets fan recently. There’s more merch out there than at any time ever. Also Aerosmith’s Rock and Roller Coaster down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a Muppet – theme makeover in the near future. (In reality that’s the least they could do for getting rid of Muppet Vision 3D. And don’t forget, we want that available on Disney+ as well. in a perfect world!)  There will be more news about The Muppet Show in coming weeks. But, our initial reaction is one of excitement to see Sabrina really get in there and put on an amazing performance that we literally couldn’t have dreamed of.

  • Martha Stewart Celebrates 83rd Birthday With Snoop Dogg at Paris Olympics

Martha Stewart Celebrates 83rd Birthday With Snoop Dogg at Paris Olympics

    [ad_1]

Lifestyle icon Martha Stewart turns 83 today, making her nearly two years older than President Joe Biden, a year older than actor Harrison Ford, and a full decade younger than media mogul Rupert Murdoch. And yet she seems happier than many of those contemporaries. Is that because she celebrated her birthday 1) in Paris, 2) at the Olympics, and 3) with Snoop Dogg, a Muppet, and a cake made of macarons? Perhaps!

Stewart, who joked in 2022 that she was too busy to date, spent the day before her birthday on the interview circuit, appearing on Access Hollywood with omnipresent Paris Olympics superfan/“ambassador of happinessSnoop Dogg, with whom she shared a 2010s-era TV show.

In the Friday interview, Martha Stewart and Snoop’s on-camera appearance was interrupted by Cookie Monster, a Muppet who’s previously matched wits with John Oliver, Sesame Street neighbor Big Bird, and E.T. But his appearance Friday was anything but contentious, though he snuck up behind Stewart as the interview progressed.

“Martha! Hi! Happy birthday,” the Muppet called, according to a video posted to TikTok by Access Hollywood. “Cookie Monster, what’s happening baby?” Snoop exclaimed.

After shouting “Bring it in” to an off-camera helper, the Muppet presented Stewart with a cone-shaped cake fashioned out of macarons, a meringue-based cookie known as a favorite of French Queen Catherine de’ Medici.

As Stewart once noted on her show, Martha Bakes, it wasn’t until the 1900s that the current version of the filled, sandwich-cookie came into vogue. Stewart skipped the history lesson on Friday, however, digging into one of the cookies after subtly adjusting their plated presentation.

On Saturday, her actual birthday, Stewart was still hard at work. With Snoop again at her side, the alleged Trump bird-flipper rolled into Versailles in full equestrian gear, where the duo provided commentary for that day’s Olympic dressage event.

“Snoop called me, and he knows I love horses,” Stewart told Today of her birthday gig. “We’re going to have so much fun.”

What Are The REAL 12 Days Of Christmas

    [ad_1]

You know the song – but do you know when it starts or finishes and why?  What are the real 12 days of Christmas?

Everyone knows the song and it has been sung by groups as wide ranging as Relient K to the Muppets. First recorded in a children’s book published in London around 1780, it has been an earworm ever since.  But do you know the meaning behind it?  What are the real 12 days of Christmas?  Europe and the US differ in celebrations.

The Fresh Toast – You know the song – but do you know when it starts? What are the real 12 days of Christmas.

The 12 days of Christmas is the period during the holiday marking the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings’ Day). Advent, and the commercial advent calendars providing everything from Legos to chocolates to buzz is a different set of dates. The four weeks preceding Christmas are collectively known as Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on December 24.

The 12 days of Christmas ends at Epiphany (in the old South called Old Christmas). Epiphany is a Christian feast day falling on 6 January. It is when many Christians believe the Maji (also known as the Three kings or the Wise Men) followed the star to visit the newly born baby Jesus.  Epiphany become a declared a holiday as it comes from the Greek word meaning to reveal and it is the day when the baby Jesus was revealed to the world.  It is also called Three Kings Day.

In the 6th century, the Catholic Church declared the twelve days from Christmas to Epiphany (i.e. to just before midnight 5 January as Epiphany begins 6 January) as a sacred and festive season, and established the duty of Advent fasting in preparation for the feast. In modern times, Advent is known mostly through calendars providing little gifts.

In the United States, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve are the big celebrations. In Europe, while there is still the excitement over the 24th and 25th, Epiphany is also a big time for a feast, family and joy.

In Italy, good children receive gifts not only on Christmas, but also on January 6th, in celebration of the Epiphany. Usually candies and small toys, these are whimsically said to be brought by La Befana, a kindly witch riding a broomstick.  For naughty children she leaves just a lump of coal.

In France, the 6th of January is ‘l’Epiphanie’ or ‘la journée des rois’ commemorates the visit of the three wise men to baby Jesus. It’s traditional in France to eat ‘la Galette des Rois’. French people will go to the bakery to buy this king’s cake or make it themselves.  Games and a crown are involved in the cake celebration and laughter should be generously added to the evening.

Both the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Catholic Church celebrate on 6 January, as opposed their feud over Easter.
