    MUMBAI (Reuters) – At least four people are dead, 61 injured and more than 40 feared trapped after a massive billboard fell during a rainstorm in India’s financial capital of Mumbai on Monday, local officials said.

    The rainstorm was accompanied by gusty winds, causing the billboard, located next to a busy road in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar to collapse on some houses and a petrol pump.

    A rescue operation for the people remaining trapped under the billboard is ongoing. Fire services, police, disaster response officials and other authorities are all involved in the rescue efforts, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the civic body that runs Mumbai, said on X.

    News channels and posts on social media showed the towering billboard billowing in the wind for a while before it gave way and crashed to the ground.

    The local weather department had predicted that moderate spells of rain, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40-50 kilometers per hour were likely to occur in parts of Mumbai district on Monday.

    There were temporary flight disruptions at the Mumbai airport, with 15 flight diversions and operations suspended for a little over an hour, ANI news agency, in which Reuters has a minority stake, reported.

    Mumbai, like several Indian cities is prone to severe flooding and rain-related accidents during the monsoon season, which usually lasts from June until September every year.

    Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, along with five members of his team, were stopped by the customs department’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the private terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai early on Saturday.

    The Customs officials stopped Shah Rukh Khan and his team, with their luggage at the airport around 12:50 am on November 12.

    Accordingly, the luggage carried by the actor and his team members went through the screening.

    The officials checked the luggage and found them carrying an Apple iWatch and six other high-end cases of watches.

    The report also revealed that the total value of the goods carried by them was around Rs 17.86 lakh.

    Khan and his team members were allowed to leave after they paid customs duty worth Rs 6.88 lakh, almost 38.5 per cent of the total value of the goods.

    Khan was in Sharjah, UAE, on Friday after he was honoured with the Global Icon of Cinema and Cultural Narrative Award for his contribution to the International Icon of Cinema and Culture at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022.

    Full-service carrier Vistara, on Saturday, announced that it will operate direct flights between Mumbai and Muscat in Oman from December 12. In its announcement, Vistara said the airline will operate non-stop daily flights between Mumbai and Muscat.

    The airline will operate daily flights between the two cities using its A320neo aircraft and will be the only airline to offer the choice of premium economy class on the route, in addition to Business and Economy Class.

    Bookings for the flights are being progressively opened on all channels, including Vistara’s website, mobile app, and travel agents.

    Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara, said, “We are excited to expand our presence in the Middle East with the addition of Muscat as the fourth city in the region. Given the strong bilateral ties and the thriving trade and investment relations between India and Oman, this new route will further aid the growing traffic between the two countries. The capital city of Muscat continues to attract a significant number of expats, traders, business travellers, and high-end leisure travellers from India who will now have the choice of flying business class and premium economy on India’s best airline complemented with Vistara’s signature hospitality.”

    Earlier, Vistara announced direct flights between Mumbai and Abu Dhabi from October 1.

    The airline has a fleet of 54 aircraft, including 41 Airbus A320, five Airbus A321 neo, 5 Boeing 737-800NG and 3 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
