    Ramy Youssef Shares Prayer for Palestine in SNL Monologue

    If you’re looking for prayers, Ramy Youssef is the guy to call. At least among his friends, as he explained during his debut Saturday Night Live monologue, who typically turn to him when in need. “They call me when they’re in trouble because they want me to pray for them,” he said, before recounting two separate phone calls he got within an hour from friends asking for prayers. One was from Brian, who was in a custody battle with his ex over their dog, and the other was from Ahmed, who’s family was missing in Gaza. “So that night, I go to pray, and my prayers are…complicated. I’ve got a lot to fit in. I’m like, God, please, please, help Ahmed’s family. Please stop the suffering, stop the violence, please free the people of Palestine, please. And please free the hostages, all the hostages, please,” the comedian said, before continuing, “And while you’re at it…you know, free Mr. Bojangles, he’s a beautiful dog. I’m praying for that dog.”

    Sydney Sweeney got it all off her chest in her Saturday Night Live monologue, and not just because she threw in a joke about her boobs. While hosting the March 2 episode of SNL, Sweeney took the time to deny being in Madame Web and address multiple rumors about herself, from that infamous birthday party in Idaho (“When people ask, did you go to a Trump-themed party for your mom, I say, I-da-ho”) to the TikToker who claimed she was her nutritionist (“I’ve never had a nutritionist. I’m in shape because I run, avoid sugar, and do Ozempic”). Then it was time to tackle the allegations that she had a workplace affair with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell. An initial beat of silence from the audience was a testament to just how convincing Sweeney and Powell were on that flirty press tour.

    Still, Sweeney insisted that this particular rumor is “obviously not true,” pointing out that she co-produced the film with her fiancé, the man of her dreams. But when she asked the cameras to cut to her supportive future husband, it was Powell who was grinning back from the audience. Later in the show, he appeared in a sketch as a man she has an affair with. These SNL cameos come less than two weeks after Powell released his inhibitions and sang with Sweeney and Natasha Bedingfield at the People’s Choice Awards. No one can say this work husband isn’t putting in work.

    After being hired by Saturday Night Live in 2019 and then immediately fired after racist, sexist, and homophobic comments surfaced, Shane Gillis has now made it to Studio 8H to host, and didn’t waste anytime alluding to that history. “I was fired from this show a while ago. Don’t look that up, please. If you don’t know why, please don’t google that,” he said, before correctly adding, “I probably shouldn’t be up here.” Instead, Gillis said, he should probably be a high school football coach. “God molded me perfectly to be a high school football coach, slash ninth grade sex education teacher.” He then repeatedly mentioned that his father, who was in the audience, is a volunteer assistant girls high school basketball coach. “I thought it was funny,” Gillis shrugged, apparently unhappy with the audience’s response, “You don’t think that’s funny? To bring my dad here to make fun of him for being a girls high school basketball coach? Alright. I thought it was great, nevermind.” After talking about “dodging” Down syndrome, Gillis once again called out the fact that his monologue wasn’t landing. “Look I don’t have any material that can be on TV, alright? I’m trying my best. Also this place is extremely well lit, I can see everybody not enjoying it,” he said. That doesn’t account for the people watching at home, but at least they were able to turn it off.
