  • Detroit Lions Cut 5 Players, Roster Down to 86

    [ad_1]

The Detroit Lions announced their first wave of roster cuts ahead of Tuesday’s NFL deadline, releasing QB Hendon Hooker, WR Tom Kennedy, LB Anthony Pittman, S Ian Kennelly, and EDGE Mitchell Agude. With those moves, Detroit’s roster now sits at 86 players.

With just over a week before the season kicks off, head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes are evaluating every corner of the roster. While some of these cuts were expected, Kennelly came as a surprise to me. Several could still return to Detroit on the practice squad if they clear waivers.

    Bottom Line

The Lions still have 33 more cuts to make before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. With Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes reminding everyone that not every player who makes the 53 is currently in Detroit, more moves — and possibly an outside signing — are expected.

Detroit’s roster stands at 86 players as the clock ticks closer to final cutdown day.

  • Detroit Lions Release Mitchell Agude

    [ad_1]

The Detroit Lions have made another roster move ahead of cutdown day, releasing EDGE rusher Mitchell Agude.

Agude, 26, joined the Lions in 2024 and appeared in four games during his lone season with the team. In limited action, he tallied three total tackles (two solo), one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble.

A product of UCLA and Miami, Agude entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and carved out a role as a rotational defender. Despite his effort and flashes in preseason play, Detroit’s depth at the edge position made it difficult for him to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Agude’s athleticism and ability to contribute on special teams could draw interest from other teams, or he could be a candidate to land back on Detroit’s practice squad if he clears waivers.
