    Lochbuie Police Department via Facebook

An undated photo of Terri Ann Ackerman, who was reported missing on Aug. 24, 2018, from her home in Lochbuie.

Lochbuie police this week confirmed the remains of 56-year-old Terri Ann Ackerman were found at her northern Colorado home, more than seven years after she was reported missing in the Weld County town of Lochbuie.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office announced Wednesday that Ackerman’s remains were found at a home in the 100 block of Poplar Street on Sept. 10 — the same area where she was reported missing from her home in August 2018, according to the Greeley Tribune.

  • 4 years on, the search for Bemidji’s Nevaeh Kingbird continues

This October marks 4 years since 15-year-old Nevaeh Kingbird disappeared in Bemidji, Minnesota. Investigators, loved ones and advocates say they won’t give up the search

“I am hoping that this year is the year that makes a difference,” said Ana Negrete with Minnesota’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office

Negrete says Nevaeh’s mother is a a fierce and relentless advocate, and the MMIR office stands beside her in the search for Nevaeh. This year, for the first time, the MMIR office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading investigators to Nevaeh.

“This can’t be just an issue that is her family’s issue, this is a community issue,” said Negrete. “We’re hoping that this is the push that helps turn the corner in this investigation.”

The MMIR Office launched the reward program earlier this year and say more than a dozen cases involving missing and murdered indigenous Minnesotans are eligible, including Nevaeh’s. The 15-year-old is a member of the Red Lake Nation.

Earlier this year, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released this age progression photo of what Nevaeh could look like now, years after her disappearance.

“Four years later, we’re still following up on leads. We actually just last week, did another search of a wooded area near where she was last seen,” said Detective Sergeant Dan Seaberg.

While Seaberg says that search was not successful, he says this is a case he’s constantly working on.

“We really are hoping to get some answers for the family to provide that peace, and to figure out what happened,” Seaberg said.

The detective, who has had the case for four years, thinks a tip from the public could be the help they need.

“It’s gonna take somebody knowing something and coming forward with that information, and then us being able to put the pieces of the puzzle together to determine what happened, and to find Nevaeh,” he said.

Seaberg says the police department was first alerted to Nevaeh’s disappearance in the early morning hours of Oct. 22, 2021. He says Nevaeh’s mother reported her daughter as a runaway. Later, Seaberg says, investigators found out she had been at a friend’s house, and left through a window. No one has had contact with her since and her missing persons case looking into her disappearance is active.

The Bemidji Police Department believe, at the time of her disappearance, she may have been wearing a red sweatshirt with a ‘bull’ logo, blue jeans, and black and red Nike sandals.

If you know anything about Nevaeh’s disappearance, please call the Bemidji police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

  • Police investigating the disappearance of a Philadelphia woman say a tip led them to shallow grave

Two weeks after a 23-year-old Philadelphia woman went missing, human remains belonging to an unidentified female have been found in a shallow grave in a heavily wooded area behind an abandoned school, police say.The remains are now in the care of the medical examiner’s office, which is responsible for determining whether they belong to Kada Scott, Philadelphia Police First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said at a news conference Saturday, CNN affiliate WPVI reported. On Tuesday night, a man was arrested and charged with Scott’s kidnapping — as well as the kidnapping of another woman earlier this year in what police call part of a “pattern.”Suspect Keon King, 21, also faces a charge of recklessly endangering another person and use of a communication facility, meaning his phone, in the disappearance of Scott, who was last seen at her workplace on the night of Oct. 4, prosecutors said.Tracking phone communications led police to King, Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said at a news conference Wednesday morning.”Mr. King is the last person, we believe, to be in contact with her and that he was in contact with her when she went offline,” Toczylowski said. The remains were found after a “very specific” anonymous tip was received overnight and were removed from the scene by late afternoon, Stanford said. The remains indicate the person has been deceased “for some time,” he added.Police had previously searched the area around the abandoned school after receiving an earlier tip and found at least two of Scott’s belongings, but her body was not discovered at that time, according to CNN affiliate KYW.”When you know that you’re looking for something but don’t know where someone hid it, it’s not that easy,” Stanford said.”I know sometimes it seems like the information is not coming fast enough, but we have a job to Miss Scott, we have a job to her family, if this is confirmed that this is her, to ensure that we are doing everything in the proper way to make sure that the individuals are held accountable.”Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said in a statement on Saturday the city is supporting Scott’s family in any way possible.”There are no words that I can employ to remove the unimaginable pain and turmoil that the family of Kada Scott is experiencing with the tragic loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and loved one,” Parker said. “I Pray that God will give the family a certain peace that passes all understanding to meet this moment.”Scott’s mother, Kim Matthews, had told CNN affiliate WPVI last week she just wanted her daughter to come home.”It’s been horrible,” Matthews said. “I just need her to come home and be safe. CNN is working to determine whether King has retained an attorney.

“He’s being really charged with two cases today,” Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said Wednesday.

“This is a pattern of behavior,” Vanore added.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s homicide division is leading the investigation into Scott’s disappearance with assistance from the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force.

Tips from the public lead investigators to key evidence

Scott’s family has been desperately waiting for answers and urging anyone with information relating to the case to come forward.

  • Rosemount man helps reunite missing 7-year-old with family after surprising discovery

An intense, all-out search for a missing 7-year-old girl in Rosemount, Minnesota, ended with relief when a neighbor found her safe inside his home after nightfall.

Police, family and friends spent hours looking on the ground and from the air as the search widened through a townhouse community near 145th Street West and Cobalt Avenue.

“I saw a lady coming from the main road, pretty frantic, yelling a name,” said Joe Fabeck, who lives nearby. “She told me her 7-year-old daughter had run up that same way, and she can’t find her.”

Fabeck said he initially hadn’t seen anything. A few hours later, that changed.

“I turned around and she’s standing in my kitchen,” he said. “No shoes on, just her socks, crying. She said, ‘My mom, I think, is looking for me.’ And I said, ‘Honey, everyone is looking for you.’”

Fabeck, a former firefighter, believes the girl likely slipped into his open garage earlier in the evening and hid under the stairs. He escorted her outside, alerted police and helped reunite her with her family.

“Thank God we had those resources, you know, in social media and stuff like that, to do these kind of things, so that there are some happy endings,” Fabeck said.

The moment rattled him, not just because the girl was suddenly there, he said, but because he realized how easily things could have gone differently.

“She could have gone into anyone’s garage, and something bad could have happened …really bad … and it didn’t,” he said. “I’m just glad I was home  and that she’s back with her family.”

Police said the girl was not injured.

Sampson’s mother says he was recently hospitalized after a seizure and could be in medical distress. His father, Rob Sampson, said his son has only had two, but is vulnerable without his medication.

“When he gets these seizures, he gets disoriented and has memory loss, gets confused and does strange things,” Rob Sampson said.

Logan Sampson’s cousin, Sophie Camilli, is one of the hundreds of people who have been searching.

“When you tell people he’s missing, they ask what his mental state is,” Camilli said. “For certain, know he’s not angry, not a threat to anyone, just lost.”

New Prague police are asking people in the area to check their security cameras for Sampson. On Monday, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home to look for clues.

Anyone who wants to join the search for Logan Sampson can visit Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague. Organizers of the effort said they will begin looking again on Tuesday at 7 a.m.

Anyone with information on Sampson’s whereabouts is asked to call the New Prague Police Department at 952-758-2791.

  • Missing Sartell man’s remains found in submerged car, authorities confirm

Authorities say the remains found in a vehicle that was recovered from the Mississippi River last month in Sartell, Minnesota, have now been identified.

Roy Benn went missing on Sept. 25, 1967.

    Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says the remains have been identified as Roy Benn, who was reported missing nearly six decades ago.

Benn, of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, was 59 when he disappeared, and it took almost that same amount of time to find him. He had last been seen around 4 a.m. in Sartell on Sept. 25, 1967, driving a blue 1963 Buick Electra.

Investigators worked for several years after Benn disappeared to find him, conducting various interviews and searches, but were never successful. Fifty-seven years later, they are closer than ever to an answer.

The discovery comes after someone fishing on the river spotted what looked like a car on their sonar. A dive team searched the area and found a car about 20 feet deep in the river a few days later, on Aug. 13, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

Brody Loch, a fisherman from Watkins, Minnesota, who found the car, said, “It was 100% luck.”

A tow company was brought in to remove the car, which was the Sartell Police Department said was “intact but severely deteriorated, had been underwater for decades and was filled with river sediment.”

Shortly after finding the vehicle, authorities were able to use the VIN to confirm it belonged to Benn.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to determine Benn’s cause and manner of death.

Benn was declared dead in 1975.
