  • Whistleblower warns massive fraud is happening in Ohio Somali community, Minnesota ‘just tip of the spear’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

FIRST ON FOX: On the heels of Minnesota’s still-unfolding massive social services fraud scandal, a whistleblower is exposing a similar scheme occurring among the Ohio Somali community, which she says dates back over a decade and totals millions in stolen taxpayer dollars.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mehek Cooke, an Ohio attorney and conservative commentator, said that “Minnesota was just the tip of the spear.”

She said that providers within the Ohio Somali community have confided to her that they have been pressured to join in a “massive” Medicaid fraud scheme that involves doctors “rubber stamping” home health care payouts to the family members of elderly individuals for fake medical conditions.

She explained that scammers in the community have been exploiting a loophole in Ohio’s Medicaid program that allows individuals to receive Medicaid payments, totaling as much as $91,000 per year per individual, for care they are supposedly providing to a family member. Doctors who approve these payments in turn receive kickbacks themselves, according to Cooke.

EXPERT REVEALS KEY FACTOR THAT LED TO MASSIVE MINNESOTA FRAUD SCHEME

“They’re just rubberstamping a lot of these. And then that same individual, a week later, that’s supposed to be bedridden, is all over social media, whether they’re out dancing at a party or something like that. So, the symptoms aren’t really adding up at the end of the day.”

Cooke noted that she believes that “the problem today is not the community; it’s actually the criminals within the Somalian community that have exploited Ohio’s Medicaid program because we have a system right now that’s one of the easiest in the Midwest to game.”

“Say I want to take care of my elderly aging parents at some point. I can become a home health provider, and this is where the Somali community has been really clever. They’ve been able to find loopholes in Ohio law to provide for care for family members, even when they don’t need it,” Cooke explained.

She said that the providers who came to her divulged this information at great personal risk, telling her that if they were exposed, they would be “stoned to death.”

“We have entrusted states to look at the funding and to allocate it to build programs, to build rules and regulations. But unfortunately, in states like Ohio, it is being infiltrated and broken down because you don’t actually have independent assessments with not only doctors but somebody at the Department of Medicaid coming in. There’s not random visits that are happening all the time,” she said. “So, a lot of times what’s happening is an individual is coached to lie to a doctor.”

Cooke said that, according to providers within the community, 99 percent of the time individuals receiving the home health care Medicaid benefit have been coached and do not actually qualify for the benefit.

“What we’re seeing in Minneapolis is just a snippet of what’s happening in Ohio,” she said.

“I know that everybody wants to make this a Somali issue or a race issue. It’s not. Our waiver system in Ohio was built with compassion. It was built to really help individuals that are struggling and in need, but it’s being looted today,” Cooke went on.

“I think every state, in addition to Ohio, should be asking for audits of their Medicaid system and their programs,” she said, adding, “At the end of the day, Ohio taxpayers are hurting, the American people are hurting, and we don’t have enough tax dollars.”

  • Social media erupts after ICE arrest of superintendent in Iowa: ‘Crazy story’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Reactions poured in on social media following the Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrest of the Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent this week.

Ian Roberts was arrested by ICE, which says he is in the country illegally from Guyana and was not legally permitted to work in the United States, and had a final order of removal from a judge last May.

“Incredible. An illegal alien with a deportation order managed to become the Superintendent of Schools for Des Moines, earning more than $300,000 a year,” Attorney Laura Powell posted to X.

“How does someone here as an illegal alien end up in a position like this!?!?!?!?!?” another user wrote.

“This is a crazy story!” retired Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Chief Patrick Jordan posted.

“Unbelievable story. How does this happen and how many other places have similar situations?” Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz wrote.

“He should be deported immediately. He should have never been anywhere around Iowa kids in the first place!” Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, posted.

Others strongly disagreed with his arrest, including protesters in the city, the Des Moines Register reported on Friday.

“ICE is tackling mothers, violently detaining citizens, and arresting people in the middle of traffic. Now they’re arresting a superintendent with a doctorate and a masters degree who used to be an Olympic athlete. It’s time to abolish ICE,” Michigan State House candidate Zachary Shinabargar posted.

On Friday, he was arrested after allegedly driving away from law enforcement after “identifying himself” to them. He later abandoned his car in the woods, and Iowa State Patrol ended up finding him, according to a press release.

“This suspect was arrested in possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle provided by Des Moines Public Schools after fleeing federal law enforcement,” ICE ERO St. Paul Field Office Director Sam Olson said in a statement.  “This should be a wake-up call for our communities to the great work that our officers are doing every day to remove public safety threats. How this illegal alien was hired without work authorization, a final order of removal, and a prior weapons charge is beyond comprehension and should alarm the parents of that school district.”

The district said that Roberts had previously done an I-9 to prove legal status, but that it was conducted by a third-party group and that it did not know about an order of removal, according to the Associated Press.

Roberts came to the United States with a student visa in 1999 and had charges for weapon possession in 2020, according to ICE.

  • California father says Newsom ignored pleas after migrant trucker’s crash left daughter critically injured

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A California father says Gov. Gavin Newsom has ignored his pleas for answers after an illegal immigrant truck driver caused what he says was a devastating crash that left his young daughter with life-altering injuries.

“We never did receive anything back from the governor. We never received a call back. We never received a ‘governor’s going to look into this.’ We didn’t receive anything,” Marcus Coleman told “America’s Newsroom” Thursday.

His daughter, Dalilah Coleman, was 5 years old at the time of the crash in Southern California last year. Coleman said a semi-truck failed to stop and caused a multi-vehicle pileup. Dalilah was airlifted to a children’s hospital, where she stayed more than a month, much of it in a coma.

“She has a TBI [traumatic brain injury]. She is now diagnosed with cerebral palsy and global developmental delay. She doesn’t walk. She receives nutrition through a G-tube,” said Ileana Krause, Dalilah’s mother.

An illegal immigrant from India, identified by the Department of Homeland Security as Partap Singh, has since been arrested in connection with the crash. Authorities accused him of driving at an unsafe speed and failing to stop for traffic at a construction zone. DHS said the suspect was issued a commercial driver’s license in California.

    A multi-car pileup scene

On June 20, 2024, a multi-car crash in California was allegedly caused by a commercial 18-wheeler driven by Partap Singh, according to authorities.  (DHS)

Earlier this year, another illegal immigrant was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and immigration violations after police say he caused a crash in Florida

Authorities in that case said the suspect, Harjinder Singh, tried to make a U-turn in an unauthorized area. The trailer jackknifed and collided with a minivan, killing three people inside.

Harjinder Singh obtained a commercial driver’s license in Washington in 2023 and a limited-term commercial driver’s license in California in 2024.

FLORIDA TRAGEDY SHOWS WHY TRUMP’S TRUCKING LICENSE CRACKDOWN IS NEEDED

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has called on Newsom to act to prevent future tragedies.

“Dalilah Coleman’s life was forever changed when an illegal alien driving an 18-wheeler slammed into her and her family. This tragedy was entirely preventable,” Noem said.

“This is sadly another example of Gavin Newsom’s California Department of Motor Vehicles issuing an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License. How many more innocent people must become victims before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with American lives?”

A spokesperson for Newsom’s office pushed back, saying responsibility for the crash rests with the federal government, not the state.

“Our hearts go out to the Coleman family,” the office said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

They also hit back at Noem, writing:

“It’s deeply disappointing to see Secretary Noem politicize such a horrific tragedy. The FEDERAL government issued the driver a federal work permit (and RENEWED IT AFTER THE ACCIDENT), making him eligible for a driver’s license — not only in California, BUT IN ANY STATE. Madam Secretary, please stop peddling false and misleading information.”

Coleman and Krause say they want answers.

“She didn’t deserve this. She was a very sweet girl, and she still is. And you could see that light of her still shining through,” Krause said.

“But we miss who she was.”

  • Trump officials slam blue state governor for ignoring chaotic anti-ICE ‘rioters’ disrupting operation

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Department of Homeland Security is criticizing Illinois Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker for failing to assist in responding to a chaotic anti-ICE riot in a Chicago suburb that forced federal authorities to deploy tear gas and other non-lethal measures.

In a Monday statement, the department claimed that police “under JB Pritzker’s sanctuary jurisdiction refused to answer multiple calls for assistance.”

Fox News Digital reported last Friday that federal officials clashed with a group of protesters who were blocking ICE vehicles from entering and exiting a processing facility in Broadview, Illinois.

DHS labeled the protesters “rioters” and said that so far, federal law enforcement has arrested 16 rioters. The agency said that the “rioters and sanctuary politicians obstructed law enforcement, threw tear gas cans, rocks, bottles, and fireworks, slashed tires of cars, blocked the entrance of the building, and trespassed on private property.” DHS said that rioters also assaulted law enforcement officials.

Matt Hill, a spokesperson for Pritzker, responded by telling Fox News Digital that “it’s completely false to suggest the state or local municipalities have been obstructing federal officials.”

“The state has not received multiple calls for assistance from the federal government and would remind them of the importance of coordinating with local law enforcement to protect public safety,” said Hill. He added, “Governor Pritzker has been clear that violence is unacceptable and everyone needs to follow the law, which includes federal agents respecting constitutional rights to peaceful protest.”

“The media needs to use extreme caution before reporting what the Trump administration is saying given their record of lies, lack of transparency, and failure to coordinate with the state and local law enforcement,” said Hill.

The DHS statement said the protest disrupted an operation targeting “some of the worst of the worst—including criminals convicted of drug trafficking, domestic abuse, drinking and driving, and assault,” who were being processed at the facility.

The agency highlighted some of the criminal illegals who were being processed when the protest broke out.

Among those was Andres Ventura-Uvaldo, a criminal illegal and Mexican national, who the agency said was previously arrested for felony DUI and domestic violence.

Another, Alberto Algeria Barron, also a Mexican national, was previously removed from the U.S. in 2014 and was convicted for domestic battery twice, according to DHS.

Erwin Jose Roa-Mustafa, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, was also being processed at the facility after pleading guilty on federal charges of conspiracy and intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

DHS said that ICE was also processing another alleged drug trafficker, Ibis Alberto Testa Nunez, from Mexico, who was previously arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration for cocaine possession and possession with intent to distribute.

Two others, Salvador Alcantar-Alcantar, from Mexico, was previously arrested for DUI, trespassing and assault, and Carlos Eduardo Chavez-Cardenas, from Bolivia, was previously convicted for DUI and possession of drugs, according to DHS.

“These heinous criminals, including domestic abusers, drug traffickers, violent offenders, and drunk drivers are some of the illegal aliens being held in the ICE Broadview Processing Center,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“These rioters in Illinois are fighting to keep rapists, murderers, and other violent criminals loose on Illinois streets,” said McLaughlin. “Instead of rioting, they should be thanking ICE officers who every single day wake up and make our communities safer.”

This comes as DHS says that ICE officials are facing a more than 1,000 percent increase in assaults as they conduct operations across Illinois.

  • Bodycam video shows illegal immigrant truck driver speaking limited English with New Mexico officer

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

New bodycam footage has been released showing illegal immigrant truck driver Harjinder Singh struggling with limited English after he was pulled over by police for speeding in New Mexico last month – a detail that has since become a major talking point in the case.

The footage shows Singh — the suspect accused of jackknifing his 18-wheeler while making an illegal U-turn in Florida that killed three people — being stopped by a New Mexico State Police officer on July 3 for allegedly driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone.

During the interaction, Singh appears apologetic as he receives a ticket from the trooper. He initially communicates without issue until after signing paperwork and preparing to leave, when the officer struggles to understand what the trucker is saying.

TRUMP ADMIN THREATENS TO CUT MILLIONS IN FEDERAL FUNDING FROM 3 STATES OVER TRUCKER ENGLISH LANGUAGE RULES

“What’s that,” the trooper says, before Singh speaks again.

“I’m sorry, I guess I don’t understand what you’re saying,” the trooper replies.

“Maybe in this, this my ticket, on my license, how many years,” Singh says to the officer in broken English.

The officer then appears to understand the question and explains to Singh that he thinks the ticket will remain on his license for five to seven years,

Singh’s limited English has drawn sharp scrutiny since the Department of Transportation (DOT) said he failed an English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment following the deadly crash in Fort Pierce, Florida. The DOT said that Singh provided the correct responses to just 2 of 12 verbal questions and only accurately identified 1 of 4 highway traffic signs, raising questions as to how and why he was driving a commercial truck in the first place.

Additionally, during the July 3 stop, Singh was not subjected to an English language proficiency test, which the DOT said was required by law beginning on June 25. State police or highway patrol officers are required to carry out such checks during routine roadside inspections.

“A driver who can’t understand English will not drive a commercial vehicle in this country. Period,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in May while announcing the new enforcement guidelines.

FLORIDA AG ANNOUNCES PROBE OF SANCTUARY JURISDICTIONS THAT GIVE TRUCKING LICENSES TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

On Tuesday, New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler pushed back on claims by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy that the state was not properly enforcing the new English language requirements.

Weisler said federal officials had mischaracterized New Mexico’s Commercial Driver’s License policy and compliance with the law, noting that while general guidelines were issued on June 25, no standardized testing procedure was provided.

“When State Police sought clarification, the response received was simply, ‘You know when somebody doesn’t speak English,’” Weisler said, adding that New Mexico developed its own compliance process and trained officers to apply it consistently.

Weisler also argued that New Mexico had kept federal regulators informed with updates in late July and mid-August — before the Florida crash occurred.

Regarding Singh’s July 3 stop, Weisler said an ELP test would not have been triggered even if the new rules had already been in effect.

“Both the Federal guidelines and today’s statements by the U.S. Department of Transportation make clear that ELP assessments are only required when there is a challenge in communication,” Weisler said.

“As the video of the traffic stop demonstrates, there were no communication issues between Mr. Singh and the officer. Therefore, there would have been no reason to initiate an ELP assessment.”

Harjinder Singh, 28, was arrested after allegedly making an unauthorized U-turn in Florida last week that resulted in a crash that left three people dead, officials said.

  • Illegal immigrant charged for ramming truck into federal officers in California

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico is facing federal charges after prosecutors say he rammed his truck into an agent and government vehicles during an immigration operation in San Diego.

The case comes the same week another illegal immigrant, Harjinder Singh, was accused in a Florida crash that killed three people — underscoring renewed scrutiny of Biden-era immigration enforcement.

According to an ICE statement, the illegal, Rolando Nava Pacheco, is facing up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for striking a federal agent and government vehicles in an attempt to flee.

Homeland Security agents stopped Pacheco during an immigration operation in San Diego for suspected immigration violations on Aug. 11. According to a DOJ statement, after the federal agents identified themselves as law enforcement, Pacheco attempted to flee by accelerating his white truck and striking an agent and a government vehicle.

The DOJ statement says the agents “verbally announced themselves as federal agents and requested identification from vehicle’s driver.”

Pacheco is now facing charges of assault on a federal officer resulting in bodily injury and destruction of federal property.

Fox News Digital reached out to Pacheco’s attorney for comment.

Patrick Divver, San Diego field office director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, commented that the operation “demonstrates the commitment of ERO officers to enforcing federal immigration laws and protecting public safety.

‘Migrant influencer’ in custody after videos on legal loopholes

(NewsNation) — A man who came to the U.S. illegally from Venezuela is now in custody after going viral for bragging about getting free money from America and encouraging other newcomers to take advantage of U.S. laws protecting squatters.

In one TikTok video, Leonel Moreno, now being called the “migrant influencer,” explained squatting laws and suggested how to take advantage of them. His account has now been removed from the platform.

“I learned that there is a law that says if a house is not inhabited, then we can take it,” he said. “Here in the United States, terrain deformation also applies, and I think that will be my next business: invade abandoned houses.”

Moreno crossed into the country illegally in April 2022 in Eagle Pass, Texas and was paroled, but authorities say he never showed up to his initial check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

When Moreno was initially processed, he was placed in the Alternatives to Detention program, where he was given a cell phone as a tracking device.

But because he didn’t follow the rules, Department of Homeland Security sources told NewsNation he was listed as a preorder absconder and was terminated from the program.

These sources later confirmed to NewsNation that Moreno was in custody.

Moreno has an order to appear in a Florida court in February of 2025, but authorities had trouble tracking him down. The address he initially provided was for Catholic Charities in Miami, but sources said he now has a possible address listed in Ohio.

Also in Ohio, Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez is another man allegedly taking advantage of the system and gaps in intelligence.

Law enforcement in Butler County, Ohio, said Garcia-Gutierrez has been in Sheriff Richard Jones’ jail 11 times, using seven different names and three different dates of birth. According to Jones, Garcia-Gutierrez has been reported eight times, yet the 46-year-old keeps returning successfully.

Garcia-Gutierrez’s latest arrest was for possession of drugs and weapons while intoxicated and obstructing. His story is not the only one, with Jones saying since 2021, the county has housed nearly 1,000 immigrant inmates with ICE detainers.
