A man fired several guns over 500 times at his New Year’s Eve party, Miami Gardens police said.
A Miami Gardens man fired hundreds of rounds shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve, sending a bullet passing by his neighbor and the neighbor’s family members at close range, police said.
Miami Gardens police started investigating the incident New Year’s Day after the neighbor reported the shots fired on the 17000 block of Northwest 27th Avenue, an arrest affidavit said.
He told police he was outside with his family when “a bullet passed by them at a close distance, placing them in immediate fear for their lives,” the affidavit said.
They ran inside to take cover. The man said he saw several people in his rear neighbor’s backyard firing guns into the air.
Officers saw multiple bullet holes on the metal fence dividing the properties and shell casings in his backyard, the affidavit said.
Police were granted a search warrant, and Dorian Christopher Alvarenga, 28, was inside the neighboring home.
Officers allegedly found about 525 shell casings and 13 firearms. They found a black Glock stashed inside his motorcycle with a damaged or erased serial number.
Alvarenga told police he hosted a large New Year’s Eve party, and he fired about three handguns and one rifle toward the ground, the affidavit said. Other people might have shot guns, but “he stated that he did not know who, if anyone else, discharged those firearms.”
He told authorities during a Jan. 5 interview the gun found in his motorcycle seat belonged to a friend, who was deported to Honduras several months ago, and he stashed it because of his lack of knowledge regarding the firearm’s history, the affidavit said.
He was arrested at the police station.
Alvarenga is facing seven charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting deadly missiles and culpable negligence, court records show.
He remained in custody as of 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show.
MIAMI GARDENS – An investigation is underway after Miami Dolphins‘ five-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by Miami-Dade police Sunday morning, hours before the team’s home opener at Hard Rock Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In a statement Sunday afternoon, Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels said she requested an “immediate review” of the details surrounding the incident.
“I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter. One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is being conducted,” according to the statement.
Daniels wrote that she is committed to “transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.“

A senior law enforcement source told CBS News Miami that Hill was stopped for reckless driving.
“He was uncooperative and when it was clear he would not cooperate he was placed in handcuffs and detained,” according to the source.
The source said the officers did not know who Hill was when they stopped him.
A second player who saw what was happening pulled over, got out of his car and interfered with the officers, according to the source. He was also placed in handcuffs and detained, the source said. Both players were ultimately released.
Hill was cited for careless driving.
After the incident, the Dolphins posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Hill would be available to play on Sunday.
This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely…
Hill did suit up and played a pivotal role in the game.
In the third quarter, when the Dolphins were down, he started a comeback with an 80-yard touchdown catch and got the Dolphins to 17-14.
After the score, Hill placed his hands behind his back as if to simulate being handcuffed. Hill finished with seven catches for 130 yards. The Dolphins went on beat the Jags 20-17.
After the game, Hill addressed what had happened. He said one of the officers told him to get out of the car.
“I was doing what my uncle told me to do when you’re in a situation like that. Put your hands on the steering wheel and listen,” he said.
Moments later, cellphone video shows Hill face down on the pavement, surrounded by multiple officers, as he was put in handcuffs.
“It happened so fast. It caught me off guard, you feel me,” said Hill.
Officers then walked Hill to the curb, where seconds later, an officer appeared to force him to sit.
“What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? Like the worst-case scenario,” he said.
When asked why he thought the police put him in handcuffs, Hill replied, “I have no idea, for real. It was crazy. I wasn’t disrespectful. My mom didn’t raise me that way.”
Fans offered their support for Hill.
“The pavement was burning hot and they stuck them down there on the ground. They just broke my heart,” said one fan after the game.
“That was the main reason why we came to the game is to watch Hill. I’m happy he was able to pull through and get in the game,” said another fan.
CBS Miami’s Mike Cugno spoke to Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus before the game about what had happened.
“Tyreek was detained by the police, I mean, just inexplicably put them in handcuffs relative to a moving traffic violation entering the stadium, of all things, on game day. A surreal situation. I’m extremely upset about it. Thank God, Tyreek is okay. We’ll be investigating the police conduct afterward, not making any allegations right now, we’ll leave that to Tyreek’s legal team. But Tyreek, thank God is okay. It was a very traumatic situation. He pulled it together, he is going to play today. Thank God he’s okay,” said Rosenhaus.
He added that Hill was fine physically but was mentally very upset about what happened.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The family of a Miami Gardens man killed during a Miami Gardens police operation says protocol violations led to the death of an innocent man. They say they’re now seeking justice.
Daniel Lewis, 27, was killed in late May during a shootout involving agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and police officers with the Miami Gardens Police Department.
It happened in the area of Northwest 161st Street and 27th Place. Police said it was part of a drug task force investigating trafficking in the area.
On Tuesday, family members and their attorneys held a news conference outside of MGPD headquarters.
“I still feel his presence,” Lewis’ mother, Angela Lewis, said.
Attorneys for the family say at this point that have not yet filed a lawsuit. They said the purpose of Tuesday’s gathering was to get the attention of members of all the different law enforcement agencies involved, saying that they want more information about the events leading up to Lewis’ shooting death.
They said law enforcement officers with a drug trafficking task force rolled up on Lewis’ house in pursuit of his sister and didn’t identify themselves before shooting and killing the father of two young children, with another on the way, as the licensed firearm owner approached the back door of his Miami Gardens home with a pistol in hand.
“And Ms. Lewis, she watched as they fired upon and gunned down her son Daniel Lewis,” family attorney Ariel Lett said.
Attorneys said Lewis and his sister did not know that the people in several vehicles with dark tinted windows chasing her were law enforcement officers and said that when his sister called for help, he told her to come home.
“The castle doctrine would seem to apply that you have a man who committed no crimes, who was known that the family committed no crimes and who his sister just ran into the house screaming for her life as the car she was in was being shot at by unknown assailant,” Lett said.
Police said Lewis appeared to have fired a weapon.
“To our knowledge, right now, none of those shell casings match that gun that Daniel Lewis owned,” Lett said. “There’s some unanswered questions.”
An FBI Miami spokesperson said Tuesday, “Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from commenting on its substance.”
An MGPD spokesperson said, “The FDLE and FBI are investigating this incident; therefore, we, the MGPD, are unable to offer any further comment at this time.”

It’s no secret that staying in big cities oftentimes means paying exorbitant prices to practically live in a shoe closet. But DJ Khaled is on a mission to turn that closet into a kingdom.
The hip-hop mogul is now offering up a room in his Miami home on Airbnb – well, technically, his shoe closet. Dubbed his “ultimate sneaker kingdom,” the room comes with shoe-lined walls with some DJ Khaled’s “most prized kicks,” including his Jordan 3 “Grateful” and Jordan 8 “Oregon PEs.”
“Sleep in my legendary sneaker collection and experience the 305 through the eyes (and shoes) of yours truly,” he says in the listing. “During the stay, guests will have the chance to live and breathe Miami the same way I do – epically. I’m rolling out all the big stops.”
And even though it is a shoe closet to sleep in, it does come with some perks, namely the cost. While many Miami hotels can cost hundreds of dollars per night, DJ Khaled’s closet is just $11.
Guests will also receive an exclusive pair of We The Best Air Jordan 5s and can “soak in the Miami vibes” in DJ Khaled’s pool. There is also a chance to get a catered dinner from his Miami Gardens soul food restaurant The Licking.
But there are some rules – it is his prized collection after all.
“Don’t ever play yourself,” the listing says.
No animals are permitted and any Jordan Brand seeded products that guests could receive are not allowed to be resold. Guests are also not permitted to touch any of the shoes, although they can take plenty of photos. DJ Khaled said that the shoes “are our babies” and must be treated with respect.
But “lastly, and most importantly,” stay blessed, he wrote.
Two guests are able to stay in the room, which also comes with a private bathroom. Bookings can be made beginning on November 29 at 1 p.m. ET for two overnight stays on December 5 and 6.
