Jordan Burks led all scorers with 17 points and Riley Kugel added 16 to lead UCF to an 81-63 win over Mercer on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

Themus Fulks chipped in with 14 points, while Jamichael Stillwell recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Knights (9-1) extended their winning streak to eight games, the program’s longest since the 2004-2005 campaign.

Brady Shoulders led Mercer (7-4) with 14 points and Armani Mighty finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Leading scorer Baraka Okojie was held to 10 points on 3-for-11 shooting.

UCF outscored Mercer 46-36 in the second half behind its three-point shooting. Burks gave the Knights a 47-31 lead early in the second half with one of his four 3-pointers. Carmelo Pacheco added a 3-pointer of his own with 11:28 remaining to give UCF a 58-39 lead.

Overall, UCF went 5-for-7 from long distance in the second half and shot 64.3% from the floor. The Knights made their last five field goal attempts.

In the first half, both teams struggled offensively. UCF missed nine of its first 10 3-point attempts and made just three of its 17 perimeter shots in the first half. The Knights were limited to 30% from the floor in the first half.

The big difference in the first half was UCF’s 15-2 run that helped the Knights take a 28-14 lead with 6:08 remaining in the half. Mercer, however, responded with an 8-0 run of its own to cut the deficit to 28-22.

UCF took an 11-point lead in the last minute of the half, but Connor Serven cut the halftime deficit to 35-27 after knocking down a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Knights will put their winning streak on the line on Saturday when they host Florida Gulf Coast in their penultimate non-conference game. Mercer will travel to Washington State on Saturday.

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Matt Mercer Is Vincent Valentine

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Matt Mercer Is Vincent Valentine

Today at New York Comic Con, it was revealed that voice actor Matt Mercer, perhaps best known as the Dungeon Master of popular actual-play webseries Critical Role, will be starring as gunslinger Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter in Square Enix’s ongoing remake of the classic ‘90s Japanese role playing game.

Previous trailers for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have showed off a variety of different locales, as well as characters not featured in the first chapter, 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, including Vincent Valentine. Much of the game remains shrouded in mystery, however, as the remake project isn’t just a faithful retelling of the original story, but sees its narrative branching off in some bold new directions. Today at NYCC, a panel featuring voice actors from the highly anticipated sequel revealed a bit more about what to expect.

While Matt Mercer did voice a few characters in the first entry of the remake project, they were mostly minor NPCs with names like “Wall Market Thug.” During the October 14 panel, Mercer revealed that he auditioned for Valentine in Rebirth, saying that he “put all of his energy” into the audition. Then, he didn’t hear back for nine months. And when he finally did get a callback, it only said that he’d once again play nameless NPCs.

In what he described as a prank played on him by the folks producing the game, Mercer said he was brought into the booth to record lines for a random NPC when the screen containing the script started glitching out before fading to black and presenting him with another character: that of Vincent Valentine. Quite a way to find out you’ve got the job.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releases on February 29, 2024 for PlayStation 5.

  • Critical Role’s Matt Mercer Solves Baldur’s Gate 3 Problems In The Most D&D Way

Critical Role’s Matt Mercer Solves Baldur’s Gate 3 Problems In The Most D&D Way

    [ad_1]

    Gif: Larian Studios / Kotaku

Finding nonsensical solutions to a problem is a core part of the Dungeons & Dragons experience, and not many people know that better than actor and Critical Role DM Matt Mercer. With Baldur’s Gate 3 out this week, it seems only natural that a D&D superstar would make his way to Larian Studios’ RPG set in that universe and also come up with a ridiculous play like stacking a few dozen boxes on top of each other to get over a defensive wall and into a castle.

Mercer, who appeared on a stream playing the game alongside Larian founder Swen Vincke, accomplished this feat by stacking 45 boxes to make a staircase. Using the jump command, Mercer scaled the makeshift stairs until he was high enough to fire an Arrow of Transposition, which teleports the user to wherever the projectile lands. Honestly, the whole thing kind of broke my brain.

I’m around 25 hours into Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’m still wrapping my head around how much chaos it allows for. More often than not, when we think of RPGs and systemic chaos we think of open-world games where there are all these clockwork systems that we disrupt as the player and watch disorder unfold. But I think Baldur’s Gate 3 is more impressive in that it gives you so many tools to navigate the world and find creative solutions that can support something like making a giant staircase of boxes and then teleporting via arrow. It rules.

As more players get their hands on Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ll no doubt see more people pulling off impressive nonsense, but shoutout to Mercer for ringing in release day with this terrific display.

While we might not have outlined anything this wild, we can give you some early-game tips to help you get started in Baldur’s Gate 3.

THREE EVENT LOCATIONS IN NEW JERSEY:

Emotional Intelligence for young children is what my mission and passion is all about. If only I had learned these skills as a young child and teenager, I wouldn’t have suffered the demeaning voices of emotional abuse way into adulthood. I’m grateful to the hosts of our conferences at Mercer, BCC and Atlantic Cape, for giving me the opportunity to convey and teach the importance of these skills to parents and educators at nearby colleges. My life has been dedicated to learning all I can so that children will have the ability to be emotionally safe in our emotionally unsafe world.

Karen Stone, Author & Founder, SoftStone, Inc.

The Conference Center at Mercer, West Windsor, NJ: Saturday, February 25, 2017

Enterprise Center at BCC, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Saturday, March 18, 2017

Atlantic Cape Community College, Mays Landing: Saturday, April 1, 2017

    OVERVIEW:

Take the next step beyond just social and emotional learning to ensure your children’s personal and conceptual success at home or in the classroom. Social and emotional learning programs are the topic of all early childhood programming. Children are demonstrating the need for a more structured and consistent method of becoming relational. The “Voices of CJ” early childhood emotional intelligence program stimulates those active emotional centers of the brain growing the fastest from birth to six. We have a very small window of time to teach and stimulate these emotional centers to reap the greatest benefit.  Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills are not innate and require the relational quality time that comes from appropriate connection in our lives. Current brain research has determined that EQ raises IQ and is 80% the reason we are successful in life.

This stimulating and interactive conference for parents and teachers provides a background of the importance of Emotional Intelligence and how learning styles are vital information for instruction that affects social and emotional development. It also includes a fun and engaging demonstration of the award-winning “Voices of CJ” early education program for parenting and teaching emotional intelligence. This program teaches children the “7 Voices of CJ” and how to become Creators of Joy. Parent and teacher guides along with all the materials you need are available in order for CJ our Creator of Joy® character and his playful buddies to become a part of your daily routines at home and in classrooms.

CJ (Creator of Joy®) and his cast of characters make this a fun and engaging experience while at the same time developing the 7 important attributes of Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Learn more about this exciting new approach by going to EQforChildren.com and seeing all that is available to bring this into your homes and classrooms.  Learn More.
