    FAQ

What are the benefits of energy healing classes?

Energy healing classes can introduce you to a variety of techniques that focus on improving your well-being by working with your body’s energy field. These classes can show you how to:

    • Reduce stress and anxiety
    • Improve overall well-being
    • Enhance deeper self-awareness and connection
    • Get better sleep
    • Increase your energy levels

Additionally, learning energy healing can support your emotional healing, where you learn to release negative emotions and past traumas.

With that being said, it’s important to note that, while many people experience positive effects, energy healing is considered complementary and should not replace traditional medical care.

    Is energy healing safe?

Yes, energy healing is generally safe for most people. It’s non-invasive that works with your body’s natural energy systems.

However, it’s important to choose a qualified practitioner and inform them of any medical conditions you have. While energy healing can complement traditional treatments, it shouldn’t replace medical care, especially if you have serious health issues.

What type of energy healing is right for me?

There are many different types of energy healing practices, each with its own approach.

If you’re new to energy healing, you can start with a general class like breathwork or chakra healing. These methods are widely practiced and easy to learn.

If you prefer a more structured approach, pranic healing offers a detailed system to cleanse and balance your energy. And for those seeking holistic healing that includes physical spaces, Feng Shui might be ideal.

Experimenting with different classes can help you find the best fit for your personal journey.

  • What Is Edging & What Is the Point of It?

What Is Edging & What Is the Point of It?

    [ad_1]

When it comes to sexual techniques, there are tons of terminology you may (or may not) have heard. Spooning, 69, footjob, missionary, quickie…

Most are self-explanatory. But then, some get you curious enough to Google them up. Like, edging.

Wait!” you might say. “What is edging?

Great question—one that leads you down a path of exhilarating discovery.

You see, edging, by any other name, is orgasm control. (Kind of like when Finch goes tantric on a ficus tree in American Pie 2.)

Using this delayed gratification can be a powerful way to open you up to entirely new sensations and unlock experiences you’ve only dreamed of.

    What Is Edging?

This sexual technique is where you (or your partner) get very close to orgasm but stop just before it happens. But what is the point of edging? Simply, it’s to make the final release more intense and last longer.

This pleasure practice can help enrich your sexual experience. You can practice it during masturbation or with a partner, and it can involve using your hands, toys, or other sexual activities.

However, it does take some work on your part—it demands awareness, control, and patience because you’ll need to keep high levels of arousal for a long time without going over the edge.

It’s “all about tantalizing your nervous system and stretching your ability to feel more and more and more pleasure without any release at all,” according to Layla Martin, the founder of the VITA™ Method and trainer of Mindvalley’s Neo-Tantra Quest.

By frequently surfing the urge—bringing yourself near to climax and then stopping—you build up sexual tension and energy. When this energy is finally released, it can lead to a much stronger and more enjoyable orgasm. (Cue Finch screaming, “Ah, Stifler’s mom!”)

    Common Myths About Edging

There are plenty of sex myths out there. Edging, too, can be shrouded in misconceptions.

Here are some of the more common ones and why they’re just, well, myths:

    • Myth #1: Edging is harmful. Actually, when done safely, it’s a healthy way to boost sexual pleasure and control. It doesn’t lead to sexual problems.
    • Myth #2: Edging is only for premature ejaculation. While it can help those who can’t orgasm or climax too quickly, edging is for everyone.
    • Myth #3: Edging kills the mood. On the contrary, the playful build-up can make sex even more dynamic and enjoyable.

When it’s practiced correctly, not only is edging safe, but it can also enhance sexual experiences for anyone willing to try it.

    5 Benefits of Edging

So delaying ejaculation can, as Layla points out, “enhance the experience of climax” and “help you climax even easier.” But what does edging do for your overall well-being?

Urologist Rena Malik, M.D., highlights the pros in a YouTube video that has amassed more than two million views. Here’s what they are:

    1. It increases pleasure. As you build up the tension, it allows for a bigger release when your peak occurs.
    2. It enhances connection with your partner (if you’re doing it with them, that is). You can explore together and time your orgasms to be in sync with each other.
    3. It can be a learning process to understand your body better. You can learn what stimuli are pleasurable for you and aren’t.
    4. It can allow you greater control over the duration of intercourse and the amount of pleasure you can have for yourself and for your partner.
    5. It can prevent premature ejaculation, especially if you have issues like erectile dysfunction. A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine by urologist James H. Semans found that the “stop-start technique” helps people last longer during sex before climaxing.

With all these benefits, give it a try to see how it can transform your sexual experiences and overall satisfaction.

    How to Explore Edging

The reality is, sex isn’t so much about the Big O or ejaculation (though it is a bonus). Sex, as Layla points out, is about “being in pleasure, in the moment.”

That’s the essence of the golden question: “What is edging in sex?” It’s having your focus be on the pleasure of the moment.

And here’s how you do it using Layla’s cheekily-named method: The C.U.M. Tool.

    C: Circular breathing

As soon as you start to feel turned on,” says Layla, “you want to do a circular breath.”

    Here’s how it works:

    1. Take a breath in through your nose or your mouth.
    2. Then exhale through your mouth.
    3. While breathing, imagine making a circle with your breath inside your body. Think of it as lifting pleasure from your genitals and spreading it throughout your entire body like a flowing river.

What does this achieve? Circular breathing encourages deep belly breaths, calming your entire nervous system. What’s more, it helps distribute the intense buildup of sexual energy, which can often make you feel like you must climax immediately.

So by spreading this pleasure, you relax and open up. And the more relaxed you are, the more you can enjoy prolonged pleasure without feeling overwhelmed by the urgency to finish.

    U: Unlock your vagus nerve

This stage involves using your voice—humming, making sexual noises, or any vocal expression that feels natural during the moment. The reason? Layla explains that when you use these sounds, “it tones your vagus nerve, which again opens you up into a deep feeling of relaxation and safety.”

Why is this important? When you’re relaxed, your body shifts from a state of stress to one of calm. This, then, helps expand your capacity to enjoy the pleasure without feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes, as Layla points out, this might even lead to intense laughter—a natural reaction to energy moving through your body. Allowing it or any sound enhances your experience and helps circulate the sexual energy more intensely.

    M: Mind games

Typically, there might be a limit—a “glass ceiling,” says Layla—on how much pleasure you think you can handle before feeling like you must climax.

What you want to do,” she adds, “is tell yourself, ‘I can feel more pleasure without having to come’ and, literally, you will train your nervous system to be able to feel higher and deeper amounts of pleasure without having to move over into climax.”

Then, as you approach your peak, here’s what to keep in mind:

    1. Intentionally slow down,
    2. Stop the stimulation, and
    3. Simply relax into the sensation.

While it might take up to, let’s say, an hour to reach a peak orgasmic state, this technique trains your nervous system to enjoy higher and more profound levels of pleasure.

    FAQ

What does edging do to testosterone?

Some believe that delayed ejaculation might increase testosterone temporarily.

However, according to anti-aging and regenerative physician Dr. Amy Killen (who also happens to be the trainer of Mindvalley’s The Science of Great Sex Quest), broader research shows that regular sexual activity and ejaculation do not harm testosterone levels and may even be beneficial.

In fact, one study found that ejaculating regularly, especially in men over 40, could lower the risk of developing prostate cancer by helping to remove toxins from the prostate.

So, while some people might prefer abstinence, Dr. Killen explains that “there’s no strong evidence that abstaining from ejaculation for long periods of time improves testosterone levels, sperm, viability, or athletic performance.”

With that being said, it’s always best to choose what feels healthiest and most satisfying for you, even if it means delaying your release.

Can you get “backed up” if you edge too much?

Contrary to what some might fear, edging doesn’t cause physical harm or lead to any medical issues like prostate problems. Having said that, Dr. Malik highlights that it may cause “blue balls.”

The reason for this is that when you’re having arousal, blood flow increases to all the pelvic floor muscles, including those that are near the testicles,” she explains. Typically, the increased blood flow is released when you climax. However, when you don’t, “the blood flow hangs around and then causes this heavy pressure discomfort feeling.”

The fact of the matter is, edging can be a healthy part of a sexual routine, provided you’re doing it with awareness and care for your body’s signals.

    How long should edging last?

Edging is personal—how long it lasts depends on your personal preferences and endurance. There are some that might enjoy it for a few minutes before giving in to orgasm. Others might prolong it.

If you’re just starting to experiment with this technique, taking it one step at a time is always advisable. So start with shorter periods, and extend the time as you feel more comfortable with edging.

When it comes to sex and all that encompasses it, Dr. Killen’s advice might just hit the right spot: “Ultimately, it comes down to figuring out what you like and then communicating that to your partner. One type of pleasure is no better or worse than another, as long as you and your partner are both enjoying the ride.”

    Love Deeper, Connect Stronger

Edging is a great way to maximize your satisfaction. But it’s only one way.

The thing is, there are plenty of techniques that can amp up your sex life. For heightened pleasure. And for deeper intimacy.

No, you don’t have to make like Finch and go tantric on a ficus tree. Instead, you can explore the wide range of transformative sexual wellness methods at Mindvalley.

When you sign up for a free account, you have access to the first few lessons of the Mindvalley quests—Neo Tantra with Layla Martin, The Science of Great Sex with Dr. Amy Killen, and even Tantra Touch with Psalm Isadora. It’s a sneak peek, essentially, so you can see how these programs can help enhance your sensual education for better sexual health and pleasure.

Mindfulness. It’s the buzzword that trumps all buzzwords—and for good reason.

Life’s got us juggling work deadlines, social and familial commitments, and a never-ending to-do list. Needless to say, it can leave any right-minded person feeling scattered and depleted.

So where there’s chaos, there’s the need for peace. And Mindvalley’s got the thing: mindfulness classes that can help bring you into a state of zen and ready to conquer any given day, regardless of what life throws at you.

A Yogi’s Guide to Living in Bliss

Sadhguru’s no ordinary yogi. He’s a sage. A monk. A biker (yes, you read that right). One of India’s 50 most influential people. The author of the New York Times bestseller, Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy.

And his mission? “To move people from heaven to earth, religion to responsibilities.”

It all starts right here, in this free masterclass. Together with Mindvalley’s founder, Vishen, Sadhguru navigates through life’s profound questions that’ll challenge your perspectives on suffering, morality, and self-awareness.

If you’re looking for mindfulness classes that will—boom!—blow your mind, this is one. And you’ll come out on the other side having learned mindfulness practices for anxiety, how to cultivate playfulness, and, ultimately, how to transform your experience of life.

    • Why traditional belief systems might hinder spiritual growth.
    • The power of playfulness in cultivating a fulfilling life.

4 Powerful Energy Techniques to Tap Into Your Spiritual Body

Imagine knowing what you want, but no matter what you do, you feel stuck or frustrated that you can’t make it happen. Chances are, you’ve felt this way.

The problem, according to Jeffrey Allen, is that you’re focusing all of your attention on steps in the material world to manifest your dreams. Instead, you should be using mindfulness exercises on the energy world.

Energy always comes first, followed by the physical,” Jeffrey explains. This is the concept of duality—the interplay between your physical and spiritual self.

This free masterclass offers you the chance to reshape any aspect of your life using simple yet profound energy techniques. As you tap into your spiritual body, you’ll learn how to fine-tune your physical world, achieving more health, wealth, love, inner peace, and clarity.

About the trainer: Jeffrey Allen, a former engineer turned energy healer, has a unique gift: he bridges the gap between logic and intuition. His perspective and effective techniques have helped countless people find meaning, purpose, and success in all aspects of life.

Class duration: 1 hour 21 minutes

    What you’ll learn:

    • Four powerful energy healing techniques to transform key areas of your life.
    • Tools to access your intuition and receive clear guidance.

    • The ability to connect with your spiritual self and experience greater well-being.

What students are saying:I have increased my energy capacity, and I am working towards being able to do self-care and self-checks. And I feel that I am calmer. The levels of this course are so great for the beginner and for the advanced audience as well.” — Dianne Campbell; United States

    True Manifesting From the Soul

Law of Attraction—thanks to The Secret, you’ve likely heard of it. But are you using it correctly?

When people are using the Law of Attraction, they’re using it from a limited perception,” says Michael Bernard Beckwith. “Oftentimes, it’s ego, desire, or it’s an imprint that we have received from society or miseducation or religion or something to that effect. And it is not the full scope of each of us becoming more.”

That’s the premise of this free masterclass—to offer you a fresh perspective that goes beyond traditional manifestation techniques. Instead, True Manifesting From the Soul is one of the more powerful mindfulness classes that focus on how to break free from societal constraints and deeply connect with what your soul truly desires.

About the trainer: Michael Bernard Beckwith is a respected spiritual leader and author. His teachings are rooted in the concept of “Life Visioning,” a practice that fosters connection with the divine and allows you to tap into your full potential.

Class duration: 1 hour 28 minutes

    What you’ll learn:

    • Why traditional visualization techniques might hinder your goals.
    • The key differences between “manifesting” and “true manifesting.”
    • The four stages of spiritual development and how they guide your growth.
    • Strategies for surrendering to your soul’s purpose and achieving true fulfillment.
    • Tools for overcoming challenges and transforming negative experiences.

What students are saying:I have learned and grew a lot in such a short time. I’m a professional boxer, and I’m used to be disciplined and confident in my ability, but to learn about the willingness and setting intention, forgiveness, compassion, and focusing on things that I have never thought of before.” — Freddy, professional boxer; London, United Kingdom

    Meditation for Super Performance

Think meditation is just about sitting still and clearing your mind?

As Emily Fletcher, one of the world’s leading experts in meditation, says: “We meditate to get good at life, not to get good at meditation.”

Her Masterclass at Mindvalley, Meditation for Super Performance, will teach you just that—meditation is a powerful tool to use not just for spiritual gain but as a means to excel at work and in life.

About the trainer: Emily Fletcher stands among the world’s elite when it comes to meditation. Having transitioned from a stressed Broadway performer to a revered meditation coach, she’s helping top performers achieve excellence through her Ziva meditation technique.

    • A 15-minute guided meditation that you can use anytime to boost your energy and release stress.

What students are saying:I signed up for this quest just to learn to meditate, didn’t really meet anyone nor taken a course about meditating, so I thought, ‘why not?’ Little did I know that I was signing up for a way better sleep, focus, being more patient with my daughters, and more. Definitely, I got way more than I expected.” — Alex Maciel, producer; Mexico City, Mexico

And that’s the great thing about this particular Mindvalley Quest: it equips you with practical tools for cultivating compassion, forgiveness, and inner peace—qualities that help with your mental well-being.

With Gelong Thubten’s insightful teachings, you’ll find yourself on a journey of self-discovery. And what you’ll learn is how to navigate life’s challenges with greater love and understanding.

Tuning into a higher awareness gives you fantastic guidance, according to Jeffrey Allen. He describes it as achieving “a sense of peace and ease—that everything is happening just perfectly, that there’s a bigger plan which is playing out beautifully.”

  • How to Use Words of Affirmation (+ 30 Tips & Examples)

How to Use Words of Affirmation (+ 30 Tips & Examples)

    [ad_1]

Think of a time when someone said something to you that turned that frown upside down. It could be a simple one like “I appreciate you.” Or one that’s more complex, like “I’m grateful to you for supporting me through this difficult time.”

That’s how words of affirmation, especially in love relationships, can truly make a person feel seen, valued, and loved. It’s so simple. Yet so profound.

As Donna Eden, a well-known energy medicine expert, points out in her The Energies of Love Quest on Mindvalley, “it also keeps you on the alert for what you truly appreciate in the everyday flow of your lives together.”

    What Are Words of Affirmation?

More than just compliments or flattery, praise, encouragement, and compliments can be the golden ticket to your partner’s heart. It’s one way to tell them that you see them, value them, and care about them—that’s the “words of affirmation” meaning, in a nutshell.

It’s so impactful, in fact, that psychologist Dr. Gary Chapman listed it as one of the five love languages (the other four being acts of service, physical touch, quality time, and gifts).

People who thrive on words of affirmation often feel the love when their partner appreciates them for their personality traits like kindness, humor, or intelligence. What’s more, they might even feel validated by how they make their partner feel—”I feel safe when I’m with you” or “You always make me laugh.”

Sharing positive affirmations can act as a shield against stress, leading to better conflict resolution. Not only that, but, incredibly, these words trigger reward pathways in the brain, much like receiving money.

On the flip side, however, the absence of these affirmations can be deafening. If your partner’s love language is words of affirmation, the lack of them might leave them feeling unappreciated or even insecure.

How to find out your love language

Some people naturally gravitate towards positive communication. Others might find expressing or receiving compliments awkward.

So figuring out your (and your partner’s) love language can be a game-changer for your relationship.

Here are three simple ways to find out if words of affirmation are yours:

    • Think about what makes you feel most loved. Does a heartfelt compliment make your day, or do you crave quality time spent together?
    • Consider your communication style. Do you naturally express affection verbally, or do you prefer acts of service?
    • Take a quiz. There are plenty available online, like The Love Language® Quiz created by Dr. Chapman, to discover how you and your partner feel most loved and appreciated. Alternatively, you can take the Mindvalley Love Styles Quiz so you can better understand your comfort level with closeness, independence, and vulnerability in relationships.

Share your discoveries with each other. It’s a great way to open new paths to deeper intimacy and connection.

Benefits of Using Words of Affirmation

Regularly delivering appreciations is powerfully affirming for your partner,” says Donna. And she’s got a great point.

According to neuroscientist Andrew Newberg, the author of Words Can Change Your Brain, language holds surprising power. For one, positive words like “peace” or “love” have a way of influencing our moods and perceptions. And for two, his research suggests these words may even trigger genetic changes throughout the body, potentially reducing stress levels.

In addition to that, a study published in PLoS One found that those who expressed love in the way that their partner liked saw greater satisfaction—both in their relationships and their sex lives.

It can boost self-esteem and self-confidence and create a more positive and supportive environment. As a matter of fact, research shows that receiving affirmations activates brain regions associated with self-worth and motivation. And that makes them an incredibly powerful tool for personal growth.

30 Words of Affirmation Examples to Get You Started

Beyond romantic relationships, children, friends, and even colleagues can benefit from receiving validation. Heck, even words of affirmation to self can be good for your psyche.

So if you’re looking for ways to effectively communicate them to those around you (or yourself), here are some examples that may help:

    To your partner

    1. I appreciate all you do for us.”
    2. Your love makes me a better person.”
    3. I’m grateful for your support through tough times.
    4. Seeing you smile brightens my day.”
    5. Your passion for your hobbies inspires me.”
    6. You look fantastic today.”

    8. Thank you for listening to me patiently.”
    9. I love spending quality time with you, no matter what we do.”
    10. I feel so safe and secure with you.”

    8. I appreciate your kindness.”
    9. I love your creativity! Keep exploring your artistic side.”

    To yourself

    1. I’m capable and resilient.”
    2. I’m proud of my progress.”
    3. Happiness and love are things I deserve.”

    5. I honor my needs and feelings.”
    6. My unique talents and abilities are a gift.”
    7. I have the courage to face challenges and keep growing.”
    8. Love and happiness are mine to experience.”
    9. I’m learning to accept myself, flaws and all.”
    10. I am enough.”

How to Give Words of Affirmation

Showering your loved ones with compliments might seem straightforward, but there’s a knack for making this form of emotional support truly impactful.

Here are some suggestions on how you can go about it:

    • Be specific. Generic compliments like “you look nice” can fall flat. Instead, highlight something specific you admire, like “Wow! You’re WEARING that dress!
    • Be sincere. Empty flattery can feel disingenuous. Make sure your compliments come from the heart and reflect your genuine feelings.
    • Focus on the positive. Even when the going gets tough, find something to affirm. This can help shift the focus from the problem to the solution.
    • Tailor it to them. Consider your partner’s personality. Some people might enjoy public praise, while others prefer something more private.
    • Be timely. Don’t wait for a special occasion to express appreciation. Acknowledge their efforts and positive qualities in the moment.
    • Change it up. Don’t get stuck in a rut with the same compliments. Find different ways to express your appreciation.
    • Actions speak louder than words. Sometimes, pair your words with a small gesture, like a hug or a helping hand.
    • Consistency, consistency, consistency. When you make it a regular part of your conversations, Donna explains that it trains you “to keep yourself attuned for what you truly appreciate about one another in a way that helps the love between you to blossom.”

    What to Avoid

While you may have the very best of intentions, there can be times when compliments or encouragement backfire. Here are a few pitfalls to avoid:

    • Empty flattery. You’re the best!” might sound good, but it lacks substance.
    • Using words of affirmation as a weapon, like withholding compliments as punishment or doling them out like rewards.
    • Focusing solely on physical appearance. Sure, “You’re gorgeous!” can perk up anyone’s day, but focus more on personality traits and achievements for a more lasting impact.
    • Negating affirmations with a “but” afterward, like “You cooked a delicious dinner, but maybe next time we can try a different recipe.”
    • Overdoing it to the point where it loses meaning. A constant barrage of compliments can feel overwhelming or even manipulative.
    • Using backhanded compliments, like “You cleaned the kitchen, and it actually looks good this time!

Remember, as Dr. Chapman, says, “Words of affirmation are simply true statements affirming the worth of another person.” That’s coming from the creator of The Five Love Languages himself.

So avoid falling into the traps mentioned above. Instead, focus on genuine compliments that celebrate the unique qualities and contributions of those you love.

Weaponized Incompetence: What Is It & How to Deal With It

    [ad_1]

There’s nothing more frustrating (it’s in the top ten, at least) than asking for a little help, and the response you get back is a shrug, a puzzled look, and a mumbled “I don’t know how to do that.”

That, in a nutshell, is weaponized incompetence. It’s a clever tactic, really, where avoiding chores and tasks turns into an art form. One that’s less about not knowing and more about pretending to be clueless to sidestep responsibilities.

All long-term partnerships go through disappointment,” says Donna Eden, an energy medicine expert and trainer of The Energies of Love Quest. “They go through anger, and emotional riffs, and worse.”

But the thing is, if you’ve got someone “playing dumb” with you at home or in the office, it might be time to learn how to turn the tables on this frustrating behavior.

    What Is Weaponized Incompetence?

Look up the “weaponized incompetence” meaning, and you’re sure to find a not-so-secret code for when someone deliberately acts helpless or bungles tasks to avoid responsibility or manipulate you into doing them. Also known as strategic incompetence, it’s one heck of a passive-aggressive behavior.

While it might seem like harmless laziness, it can wreak havoc on your relationship. And it can leave you feeling resentful and undervalued.

What’s more, evidence shows that relationships are more likely to end where the housework is unbalanced, particularly when the woman of the house takes on more. Even in the office, one study found that employees who feel their workload is fair are more satisfied with their jobs.

Although weaponized incompetence can be a form of emotional warfare, the person using it might not even realize they’re doing it. They might even genuinely believe they’re not good at certain tasks, or they might be hoping to avoid feeling obligated to do chores they find tedious.

But the effect is the same: It creates an uneven workload and leaves you feeling like you’re shouldering most of the burden.

    Weaponized incompetence vs. learned helplessness

There’s a similarity between weaponized incompetence and learned helplessness: both end up not doing tasks. However, the reasons behind them are quite different.

    • Weaponized incompetence: The person knows how to do the task but chooses not to. Their goal is to manipulate you, not express genuine helplessness.
    • Learned helplessness: This is a psychological condition where someone repeatedly experiences negative outcomes and stops trying, believing their efforts are futile.

What does that look like? If your partner struggles with a new task and genuinely wants to learn, that’s learned helplessness. But if they play the ignorance card, especially if they’ve done it before, that’s weaponized incompetence.

    Signs and Examples

In what ways can this deliberate avoidance of tasks manifest itself? There are some common signs, plus weaponized incompetence examples, to watch out for:

    • They suddenly (and conveniently) “forget” things. Birthdays, anniversaries, or parent-teacher meetings tend to slip their minds, but they never miss a sports game or a night out with friends. “I’m just bad with dates” becomes a get-out-of-jail-free card.
    • They have selective competence, excelling at tasks they enjoy but fumbling at the ones they don’t. Like only washing the plates and cups but leaving the pots and pans in the sink. “Pots and pans just aren’t my thing,” they shrug, leaving the sink in a pile of chaos.
    • They always seem to misunderstand you. I thought this is what you wanted,” they say with a bewildered look. And no matter how meticulously you explain how you want something done, they consistently misinterpret or “forget” crucial details, leading to subpar results.
    • They use the ol’ guilt trip play, completing tasks poorly and then playing the victim, so you end up feeling guilty for asking. They might “accidentally” shrink your favorite shirt in the dryer and claim, “But… I followed the instructions,” eyes wide with innocence. They look so genuinely upset that you find yourself becoming the people-pleaser and comforting them, doll-sized shirt forgotten.

Passive-aggressive people, like those who use weaponized incompetence, tend to have a hard time overtly expressing anger, according to Dr. Laura Berman, a well-known relationship therapist and trainer of Mindvalley’s Quantum Love: The Blueprint for Extraordinary Relationships Quest. So they do so more…well, passive aggressively.

So if you want any chance of transforming your relationship, love or work-wise, recognizing these patterns of manipulation is crucial.

Who Uses It the Most and Why?

There’s no gender bias when it comes to weaponized incompetence. However, research suggests that it shows up more where traditional gender roles exist.

A Pew Research Center study found that women in heterosexual relationships “pick up a heavier load when it comes to household chores and caregiving responsibilities.” This imbalance can cause resentment on the part of women, which, then, may lead some men to use this sneaky tactic to avoid additional chores.

With that being said, it’s also important to remember that anyone, regardless of their gender, may resort to weaponized incompetence. It could be out of laziness, a desire to maintain control, or that they simply get out of uncomfortable conversations about whatever tasks are at hand.

The thing is, though, that the key to conflict management and balancing out the dynamics is to understand the “why” behind the behavior.

Colleagues with their hands in their pockets dealing with weaponized incompetence in an office

How to Deal With Weaponized Incompetence: 3 Tips From Relationship Experts

Just because you’re dealing with such passive-aggressive behavior doesn’t mean you have to be a martyr to the mess.

As Donna says, “If your relationship is not going well at the moment, know this is not only normal; it is one of those inconvenient opportunities to deepen your relationship.”

So whether it’s weaponized incompetence in the workplace or at home, here are three expert-backed tips to get you through to the other side.

    1. Disarm your stress reactions

No doubt, arguments, especially about household chores or work tasks, can trigger even the most patient of people. This is because our brains are wired with the fight-or-flight response that kicks in during stressful situations. And while it’s meant to keep us safe from danger, it can hurt our relationships.

So how do you disarm these primal instincts so that you can communicate more effectively? Donna has some tips:

    • Recognize when you’re reacting out of instinct rather than logic. Does a simple chore discussion turn into a full-blown argument? This might be a sign of your primal response taking control.
    • Use the Triple Warmer Smoothie, a technique that involves gentle touches and movements on specific pressure points. This’ll essentially signal to your body that you’re safe and there’s no need for a fight-or-flight response.
    • Have empathy for the other person. Remember, they might also be experiencing their own primal instincts during disagreements.

If your husband (or wife) uses weaponized incompetence as a primal panic reaction, taking it personally misses the point, according to Donna. “Rather than becoming defensive and fighting or fleeing, compassion is the medicine your relationship needs at that moment.”

    2. Set a clear and positive intention for your conversation

Communication is key when frustrations over undone chores or tasks bubble up. But setting a positive intention is equally important.

This’ll help steer the conversation towards solutions rather than blame. Here’s how to use this powerful tool:

    • Think about what you truly want from your relationship, such as greater understanding, patience, or more shared moments of fun. Consider how these desires align with your and your partner’s love languages—whether it’s words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, or physical touch.
    • Share these intentions with your partner. Your stated intention can be focused more on yourself, on your relationship, or on both,” says Donna. But the most important thing is, when you both know what the other is aiming for, it makes it easier to support each other.
    • Use reminders to keep your intentions at the front of your mind. This could be a note on the fridge, a daily alarm on your phone, or a simple bracelet that reminds you of your commitment.

One major thing to keep in mind is to be flexible. Life throws curveballs, and what you intended at the start of the year might not fit later on. It’s okay to adjust your intentions as you both grow and change.

    3. Take responsibility for your own part

You’ve likely heard the phrase, “It takes two to tango.” And in any relationship dynamic, even one with weaponized incompetence, it can help to focus on taking responsibility for your own part.

This doesn’t mean excusing the other person’s passive-aggressive behavior, oh no. Rather, it acknowledges that conflicts often involve contributions from both sides.

The fact of the matter is, when you point the finger and get stuck in a “victim-villain-hero” cycle (feeling helpless, attacking, or rescuing), it’s hard to find solutions. And when you’re so convinced you’re right and they’re wrong, it can lead to feelings of victimhood, blame, and a constant struggle for control.

So, how do you break free? Dr. Berman suggests self-reflection.

When you catch yourself wanting to roll your eyes over something your partner says or does,” she says, “the idea is to stop and ask yourself, ‘Huh, why is this resonating with me in this way? What is my reaction telling me about me?’

This allows you to understand what triggers you and what your boundaries are, and to take responsibility for your part. As a result, you can break the cycle of your people-pleasing tendencies and move towards a healthier, more balanced relationship.

    Love Deeper, Connect Stronger

Recognizing patterns like weaponized incompetence or other challenging traits in your relationship can be the first step toward profound change.

With Mindvalley’s unique programs, such as Donna Eden’s The Energies of Love Quest and Dr. Laura Berman’s Quantum Love: The Blueprint for Extraordinary Relationships Quest, you’re invited to explore the depths of connection and communication.

The great thing is, these courses offer free classes on enhancing relationships—be it love or work. And they equip you with the tools and techniques to deeply understand each other, feel heard and appreciated, and navigate through conflicts to find your way back to energetic harmony and quantum love.

Shawn Stevenson Reveals How Water Can Dramatically Change Your Life

    [ad_1]

    “Gatoraaade.

    H2O!

Adam Sandler’s Waterboy may be a comedic classic, but there’s no denying that it highlights a very important fact—water is the elixir of life.

It’s one of those substances that we’ve become jaded by, as Shawn Stevenson, a renowned health expert and host of the #1 health podcast, The Model Health Show, points out. In an episode of The Mindvalley Show with Vishen, he adds, “We really don’t understand the value that it has,” especially if we live in a developed place.

Beyond being a thirst quencher, water has an immense ability to revolutionize your health. But as Shawn highlights, it first starts with transforming the way you think about hydration.

    Watch the full 41-minute episode:

Ep #40 | Hydration Revolution: Water Can Transform Your Health and Metabolism with Shawn Stevenson

The Surprising Truth About Water and Health

H2O—that’s what many of us learned about water in school. But the fact of the matter is, it goes beyond that.

Water is known as a universal solvent,” says Shawn. “It is the most interactive substance that we know,” with the ability to dissolve most things versus any other liquid.

So, why exactly is water essential for survival? Here are a few things you may not know about this seemingly ordinary fluid:

    • The human body is about 60–80% water, depending on your age and gender. It helps maintain cellular homeostasis and biochemical processes. Without it, your body would fail to perform basic functions like transporting nutrients, regulating body temperature, and flushing out toxins. And the absence of it could lead to severe dehydration…and even death.
    • Unlike food, humans can only last days without water, and the lack of it can be extremely disruptive. Research even suggests that the effects of dehydration, even mildly, can negatively affect your cognitive function and mood.
    • How much water do you truly need? The age-old “eight 8-oz. glasses a day” rule is a good starting point, but Shawn explains that it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Factors like activity level, climate, and even individual body composition influence your daily water intake.
    • Can you drink too much water? It can happen, yes, although it’s a rare occurrence. Excessive intake can dilute electrolytes, and that can lead to imbalances.
    • Water found in nature is never just plain H2O; it’s full of minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. They’re essential for your body’s electrolyte balance, supporting muscle and nerve functions, and aiding in nutrient absorption.

Leonardo da Vinci called water the “driving force of all nature.” And he’s not wrong, especially when you consider the wealth of benefits this vital essence provides for your health.

5 Vital Benefits of Drinking Water

You remember that scene in Waterboy when Bobby Boucher gets knocked completely out? Vicki Vallencourt gives him water from a glacier in Alaska, and he snaps up?

    Now that’s what I call high-quality H2O.”

That’s the importance of hydration. Here are a few more things water can do for you:

    1. Enhanced brain function. Your brain is about 75% water. By staying hydrated, you’re helping your brain operate at its peak. This means better concentration, clarity, and cognitive function.
    1. Improved physical performance. Whether you’re an athlete or simply enjoy a daily workout, water is your best ally. It helps with muscle recovery and prevents fatigue.
    1. Boosted metabolism. Shawn points out that adequate hydration, especially in the morning, can actually boost your metabolism. This means your body processes calories more efficiently, aiding in weight loss and overall energy levels.
    1. Detoxification. Keeping your daily water intake in check supports your body’s natural detoxification process, including the function of the glymphatic system, which, as Shawn explains, helps clear out harmful toxins in your brain.
    1. Healthy skin. We want to look good; we want to feel good,” says Shawn. And water can help maintain that optimal skin moisture and deliver essential nutrients to the skin cells.

These benefits are just the tip of the iceberg. But the thing is, when you prioritize your water intake, you’re making a commitment to improve your way of life.

How to Drink More Water: 5 Hydration Hacks from Shawn Stevenson

Not all of us are diligent enough to have healthy drinking habits. And there are even some of us who don’t like the taste of water.

So what tips and tricks does Shawn have for such dilemmas? Here are some that are designed to make water consumption a more enjoyable part of your everyday routine:

    1. Choose quality

The type of water you drink matters. While standard tap water may be sufficient, it can sometimes contain impurities like chlorine or lead.

That’s why Shawn recommends choosing quality water, like reverse osmosis (RO) and structured water, for optimal hydration.

    • Reverse osmosis water has gone through a purification process. It removes contaminants like pesticides and heavy metals from tap water.
    • Structured water maintains a specific molecular arrangement, found naturally in spring water. It’s believed to be more easily absorbed by your body, making hydration more effective.

The key takeaway here is that, when or if you can, choose water that not only hydrates you but also contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

    2. Set a water schedule

Life gets busy, and forgetting to drink water is all too easy. There are a few ways to tackle this:

    • Set alarms or download a hydration app to help remind you to take a sip of water. You can customize it to ping! you every hour or at times when you notice you typically feel thirsty (first thing in the morning, for instance).
    • Keep a water bottle within reach; it acts as a visual reminder. Place it on your desk at work or carry it with you when you’re out and about.
    • Link your water breaks with daily activities. For example, drink a glass of water before each meal or right after you brush your teeth. This way, it becomes a regular part of your routine, just like checking emails or taking a walk.

These little steps ensure you’re regularly hydrating without it feeling like a chore. Plus, it helps make drinking water a natural part of your day.

    3. Mind your containers

The container you use to store water and drink out of is just as important as the water itself. Shawn points out that plastic bottles can be a health concern. Why? Because, over time, plastics can release chemicals into the water, especially when exposed to heat or sunlight.

Here’s what you can do instead:

    • Go for glass. These kinds of bottles are a safe bet. They don’t leak chemicals, keeping your water pure.
    • Use stainless steel. I generally carry a stainless steel bottle,” says Shawn. “They’re super nice, and they’re very durable.”

Understandably, there are some instances where we can’t avoid plastic water bottles. After all, “it’s more important to get hydrated,” according to Shawn.

But keep in mind that if you must use plastic, keep it away from heat sources like direct sunlight or a hot car.

    4. Flavor up your water

Water doesn’t have to taste boring. You can add a twist to it with natural flavors. Here’s how you can make it fun and beneficial:

    • Add slices of lemon, lime, or cucumber. These not only improve the taste but also add a zing and pack a punch of vitamins and antioxidants.
    • Experiment with herbs, like fresh mint or basil. They bring a unique flavor and have health benefits, too.
    • Add a few drops of liquid minerals or a pinch of high-quality salt, like Himalayan pink salt. They can replenish electrolytes and add essential trace minerals to your water.

These simple steps not only make water more appealing but also turn it into a nutrient-rich drink.

    5. Hydrate through food

While water is one way to get hydrated, certain foods can significantly contribute to it as well. Why’s this important? Well, sometimes when you think you’re hungry or experiencing food cravings, you might actually just be dehydrated.

So how can you stay on top of your hydration game through your diet?

Firstly, understand your cravings. If you ever get “hangry,” it could very well be your body’s cry for water being misinterpreted as hunger. Eating hydrating foods can help manage these hunger pangs and keep you hydrated.

Secondly, choose water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, and lettuce. Adding these to your meals and snacks is a delicious way to boost your hydration and potentially reduce unnecessary snacking.

    Futureproof Your Well-Being

Small, consistent changes can lead to significant improvements in your health over time. Tweak your daily water intake, try out some of Shawn’s hydration hacks, and do your best to consume some of that Bobby Boucher’s “high-quality H2O.”

  • Spirituality Is Just Physics We Don’t Understand—A Physicist Explains Why

Spirituality Is Just Physics We Don’t Understand—A Physicist Explains Why

    [ad_1]

Manifestation, the Law of Attraction, conscious intentions—these potent buzzwords, promising reality-bending results, often dominate personal growth circles. But step into the science community and scoff.

    What gives?

This is where Nassim Haramein, a physicist and the research director at the International Space Federation, can help bridge the gap between the seemingly disparate worlds of science and spirituality. (The man has, after all, spent the last 30 years researching and discovering connections between physics, mathematics, cosmology, quantum mechanics, biology, and chemistry, as well as anthropology and ancient civilizations.)

As he says, “Anything considered spiritual or metaphysical is generally just the physics we do not yet understand.” And in an episode of The Mindvalley Show, he sits down with Vishen to explain where the lines between science and spirituality blur and where the potential for manifestation takes on a whole new dimension.

    Watch the full hour-long episode:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Plb0VG5f4Yw

Ep #038 | Nassim Haramein On the Science Behind Spirituality

    Who Is Nassim Haramein?

Nassim Haramein—it’s a name that ignites both scientific sparks and spiritual intrigue. He’s spent over three decades carving his own path at the intersection of physics and possibility.

His foundation in conventional physics led him to explore areas like plasma physics and the potential for harnessing its energy. However, it’s Nassim’s intellectual spirit that yearned for more than just the established scientific paradigm. He got into ancient texts, esoteric philosophies, and the mysteries of consciousness, seeking to bridge the apparent gap between science and spirituality.

This unorthodox approach led to the founding of The Resonance Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring the interconnectedness of physics, consciousness, and the universe. Through this platform, Haramein has championed controversial ideas like the “Haramein-Rauscher Metric,” a proposed solution to Einstein’s field equations that incorporates torque and coriolis effects.

While his theories haven’t garnered universal acceptance within the scientific community, they have sparked debate and ignited the imaginations of many.

Is There Science Behind Spirituality? 3 Mind-Bending Lessons From Nassim Haramein

Granted, the smorgasbord of information on this episode of The Mindvalley Show is not completely easy to grasp. (Kudos to Vishen and Nassim, though, for trying to simplify it for us laymen).

It does, however, prompt the question, “How are science and spirituality related?

Nassim believes that the two aren’t inherently separate; rather, they both represent different perspectives on the same reality. He suggests that everything, from energy and information to consciousness, is fundamentally connected at a deeper level.

Anything considered spiritual or metaphysical is generally just the physics we do not yet understand. — @NassimHaramein Click To Tweet

And it’s with this understanding that we can take a closer look at how science and spirituality complement each other.

    1. Everything is connected

Forget the six degrees of separation. According to Nassim, everything in the universe, from the tiniest atom to the grandest galaxy, is interconnected. And they all vibrate at different frequencies within the same underlying field that’s often described as imbued with spiritual energy.

This “oneness” is rooted in his theory of unified field mechanics, which suggests that everything vibrates at different frequencies within the same underlying field. It’s much like a giant cosmic orchestra, where each instrument plays its part in creating the beautiful symphony of existence.

The universe is connected and alive, and we are a part of the metric of space. — @NassimHaramein Click To Tweet

This perspective resonates with ancient Eastern philosophies that view the universe as a living organism, pulsating with an interconnected life force. It also aligns with the emerging field of quantum physics, where experiments like the famous double-slit experiment, suggest that particles can be entangled across vast distances. Thus, defying our classical understanding of separateness.

    2. Consciousness is a fundamental aspect of reality

Consciousness, as you very well may know, is the essence of spirituality. According to Nassim, it’s “the fundamental information structure of the universe.” It’s where information moves through cycles—feedforward and feedback information throughout the whole network of creation—that produces complexity. “It’s something fundamental to creation, and it’s occurring everywhere.”

Simply put? Consciousness isn’t just something that happens in our minds. Rather, it’s a key part of how the entire universe works and is present in everything.

Researchers have long been investigating consciousness-related anomalies, unexpected phenomena that might be influenced by human thoughts or intentions (think: the plane scene on Final Destination), or even group consciousness. By being mindful of our thoughts and intentions, we can align ourselves with the natural flow of the universe, leading to more harmonious and fulfilling experiences.

By doing so, we don’t ignore the challenges of life. Instead, we approach them with a conscious awareness that can transform obstacles into opportunities for growth.

    3. We have the potential to create our own reality

If consciousness is a fundamental force, then we have the potential to be co-creators of our own reality. Through our thoughts, intentions, and actions, we can influence the vibrations around us and shape our experiences.

Nassim’s emphasis on “information moving through its cycles” resonates with the Law of Attraction’s core principle: cultivating positive mindsets and intentions (often through some sort of dedicated spiritual practice) can shape reality.

I think we do it all the time,” he says. “We modify the past to produce the next moment in our future.”

There are several studies that show how our thoughts, emotions, and actions might influence our lives, a.k.a., manifestations. For example, Dr. Carol Dweck’s work on growth mindset highlights that we’ll likely achieve what we want if we believe in ourselves. Even research by psychologists Dr. Barbara Fredrickson and Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky shows that people who are generally happy tend to attract more opportunities.

Everything is energy, and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. — Albert Einstein Click To Tweet

This isn’t about manifesting a Ferrari overnight (although, hey, who knows?). Instead, it’s about taking ownership of our inner world and using it to create positive change in our lives and the world around us.

    Fuel Your Future

As Nassim Haramein reminds us, “Your participation in the universe is critical.” That’s why your journey to understand the science of spirituality doesn’t have to end here.

Join Mindvalley’s community of seekers and go deeper into the mysteries of consciousness with renowned spirituality experts. • Your Guide On How to Become a Mystic in a Hyperconnected World

Your Guide On How to Become a Mystic in a Hyperconnected World

    [ad_1]

Mystics have long been an enigma. Cloistered monks, fortune tellers with crystal balls, whirling Dervishes… Each immersed in the profound ancient wisdom that seemed to be promised to the selected few.

Now, as the digital hum consumes our world and the daily grind constantly churns, a yearning for something deeper, beyond the familiar, begins to stir. This subtle tug towards transcendence whispers the possibility of a different way of being—the way of the mystic.

Making a resurgence, mysticism is no longer seen as exclusive to devotees. Now, anyone can learn how to be a mystic, integrating ancient wisdom into the rhythm of modern life.

    What Does “Mystic” Mean?

Stripped of the romanticized imagery, a mystic is simply this:

Someone who’s in search of a deep, personal connection with something bigger than themselves, like God or the universe.

All human experiences are generated from within,” explains Sadhguru, a yogi and profound mystic of our times who’s also the trainer of Mindvalley’s A Yogi’s Guide to Joy. “If you feel happy or unhappy, miserable, joyful, ecstatic, in a state of agony—it doesn’t matter what happens, what is your experience, pleasantness or unpleasantness—just know that it’s happening from within.”

That’s why being a mystic requires a level of quiet reflection and inner exploration. And more often than not, you’ll find these spiritualists, when they’re seeking to reach a higher understanding, in meditation, prayer, or the like.

For them, the ultimate goal is to have a spiritual awakening, like a lightbulb turning on in their soul. It helps them see the world in a whole new way, with knowledge that goes beyond ordinary thinking.

How to Become a Mystic: 5 Things You Can Do, According to Mindvalley’s Spirituality Teachers

Modern mysticism offers a beautiful path to personal transformation and deep connection—no robe, crystal ball, or cape required. Here’s how to become a mystic, weaving the magic of this practice into your daily life, even without subscribing to a specific faith:

    1. Embrace stillness

The constant soundtrack of notifications and obligations bombards our senses. So cultivating stillness becomes a radical (and essential) act of self-care and a key gateway to mystical experiences.

Meditation is often the popular go-to. It’s designed to “remind us of those elevated states that are possible for all of our minds,” explains Dawson Church, Ph.D., a neuroscience researcher, in his Mindvalley Quest, Mystic Brain.

As a matter of fact, research from Harvard University suggests that meditation, even in short spurts, can rewire the brain. The study—after eight weeks of mindfulness meditation—helped improve attention, focus, and self-regulation.

But this practice is one of many. It could also be as simple as sitting quietly, focusing on your breath, and gently observing your thoughts without judgment.

Whatever form you opt for, the mental chatter quiets and a deeper awareness unfolds. You may begin to notice the subtle sensations in your body, the rhythm of your breath, and the whispers of your intuition.

This inner sanctuary becomes a refuge from external noise, a fertile ground for cultivating a happy brain, self-understanding, and even a profound connection to something larger than yourself.

Start nowlisten to this 14-minute meditation and embrace the stillness within:

    2. Connect with nature

The beauty of nature is that it’s a living altar. For countless cultures and spiritual paths, it’s the very ground of their oneness with the universe—think of a Shinto priest purifying a sacred forest or a Native American medicine man communing with the spirits of the wind and trees for spiritual guidance

Even for Tibetan Buddhists, the ascent of a mountain is a symbolic climb towards enlightenment. And for the ancient Egyptians, the Nile was a life-giving artery.

But this isn’t some exotic relic of the past. Modern mystics, like yourself, can too find solace and guidance in nature’s embrace.

Whether it’s a barefoot walk on the earth, a silent meditation beneath the stars, or simply the mindful tending of a garden, each interaction is a portal to a deeper reality.

    3. Cultivate compassion

In both religion and spirituality, compassion is a bridge that connects us to the larger universe. It’s an acknowledgment that we’re all part of something bigger. So it’s no surprise that this aspect is also a major aspect of mysticism.

Your spiritual nature is loving, period,” explains Agapi Stassinopolous, a world-renowned spiritual teacher and trainer of Mindvalley’s Speaking with Spirit Quest.

By cultivating compassion, you not only enrich your own life but also contribute to a more loving world. This is the very heart and soul of becoming a mystic: a journey of love, understanding, and deep connection with all of life.

Compassion, too, acts as a powerful mirror for self-reflection. As you extend kindness outward, it naturally reflects, cultivating inner peace and harmony. This emotional balance is crucial for your journey inward, allowing you to navigate the depths of your own being with clarity and acceptance.

Remember, mysticism goes beyond seeking personal enlightenment; it’s also about radiating its warmth outward. Through acts of compassion, however small, you become an agent of positive change, fostering a ripple effect of understanding and care in the world around you.

    4. Engage with your creativity

There’s an aspect of mysticism that’s about expressing the ineffable through vibrant creativity. As Agapi points out, every atom in the universe sings with creation, and so do you.

Your creative expression is a gift,” she adds. Sufi mystic Rumi with poetry. Anchoress Julian of Norwich with her book, Revelations of Divine Love. Even Agapi herself with her work, Speaking with Spirit.

Opening to your creativity is a form of prayer. You allow yourself to go beyond your personality, beyond your ego, and your judgements, and you crack the door open to your creative, soulful nature. — @AgapiSays Click To Tweet

So, how can you tap into this vibrant spring of creativity?

Start by visualizing your artistic desires. What beckons you, ignites your soul? See yourself embodying this creation, feeling the joy of it.

Are there whispers of fear, comparisons, or self-doubt? Acknowledge them, then gently set them aside.

Remember, you have a responsibility to your creative spirit. “So go for it,” says Agapi. “The expanded version of yourself will be there to meet you when you dare to open the door.”

    5. Ask for guidance

Life can feel like a constant barrage of decisions, big and small. From health choices to dinner plans, it’s easy to get caught in the whirlwind of “what should I do?”

This is a great opportunity, according to Agapi, to “dial the Spirit for direction.” This guidance can come in many forms—spiritual symbols, divine whispers, synchronicities, dreams, visions, physical sensations, and advice from others, just to name a few.

The trick is to “be willing to listen to yourself, to stop the noise, and go beyond the fear,” she advises. “There’s a wise voice in us that will always counsel us if we can just make room for it to speak.”

What Are the Signs of a Mystic?

Identifying if you’re a mystic is not always straightforward, as the experiences and expressions can vary greatly. However, some common signs might indicate that you have a mystical inclination:

    1. Introspection and self-knowledge

You often spend time in meditation, prayer, or other contemplative practices to explore your inner world and connect with deeper truths.

    2. Intuition and spiritual insight

You may experience heightened intuition, flashes of insight, or a sense of connection to a higher power or universal intelligence.

    3. Living beyond the ego

You may show a decreased attachment to material possessions and worldly desires, focusing instead on spiritual growth and inner peace.

    4. Transcendent experiences

You may have moments of profound connection to the divine, altered states of consciousness, enlightenment, or mystical visions.

    5. Sense of oneness or interconnectedness

You often report feeling a strong sense of unity with all living things, nature, or the universe as a whole.

    6. Personal transformation

The mystical experience can lead to significant changes in personality, values, and outlook on life.

    7. Simple living and non-attachment

You may simplify their lives and material possessions, seeking inner peace and freedom from external attachments.

    8. Commitment to spiritual practice

You often dedicate yourself to specific spiritual practices or traditions, such as meditation, yoga, or prayer.

    9. Compassion and a sense of purpose

You feel a strong calling to serve others and contribute to the well-being of the world.

It’s important to note that mysticism is a personal journey; there’s no single “right” way to be a mystic. If you’re curious about how to become a mystic, consider exploring spiritual practices, delving into spiritual texts, and reflecting on your own experiences.

Mysticism Demystified: Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Perhaps some questions still linger about this intriguing spiritual practice. Let’s dispel a few common misconceptions.

    What is mysticism, anyway?

Mystics are seekers, explorers of the soul’s hidden landscapes. So that would make the “mysticism” definition, in a nutshell, a quest to understand the universe’s deeper truths.

It has nothing to do with wearing robes, living on mountaintops, or levitating (though that’d be pretty cool). This form of spirituality is about seeking profound meaning and inner peace, whether you’re meditating in your living room or sipping chai in a temple.

Is a mystic the same as a guru? Or are there differences between the two?

Mystics and gurus are essentially two sides of the same coin. They both share a deep connection in their pursuit of spiritual understanding, emphasis on inner growth, and desire to contribute to the world around them.

So how can you tell one from another? Here are a few differences:

    Mystic Guru
Focus Personal journey of inner exploration and insight Guiding others on their spiritual paths
Role Seeker, adventurer, explorer Teacher, guide, mentor, spiritual authority and leader
Experience Direct experience and connection to the divine or ultimate reality Knowledge gained through personal experience and study, shared with others
Relationship With Knowledge Deeply personal, intuitive, experiential More formalized, drawn from tradition and scripture
Lifestyle Varies greatly, may be simple or conventional Often adheres to specific spiritual practices and disciplines

Both are crucial figures in the realm of spiritual exploration. And while a guru can be a mystic, not all mystics are gurus.

How can I start my journey to becoming a mystic?

In the wise words of Sadhguru, “The only way out is in.” That is the most direct path to becoming a mystic: inward.

So begin by cultivating a deep curiosity about yourself and the universe. Explore spiritual practices like meditation or prayer, and find one that resonates with your spirit. You can also opt to learn from diverse sources, whether it’s through texts, teachings, or even simply observing the world around you.

You don’t have to be anywhere; you just have to be open. — @SadhguruJV Click To Tweet

Remember, it’s all about constant exploration and growth. So trust your intuition, listen to your inner voice, and never stop asking questions. The universe is waiting to reveal its secrets to those who dare to seek them.

Best of 2023: Recap, Articles, Worksheets, and the Future

    [ad_1]

An honest review of 2023, featuring stand-out articles, practical worksheets, and a preview of the near future at The Emotion Machine.

Another year is coming to an end. It’s time for my annual recap and roundup of best articles.

To start, I’ll say this year was a good year for me overall. Not excellent, not bad – but “good.” It was more turbulent than past years and I certainly had low moments, but I adapted quickly and made a couple major habit changes that are going to payoff big in the future.

Despite the chaos, I was remarkably consistent in my output this year. After a decade working on this site, creating new content is almost automatic for me. There’s no reason to assume I’ll be slowing down anytime soon, as new ideas and new projects are constantly coming to mind.

The most successful endeavor this year has been my addition of self-improvement worksheets.

Last year I pledged to make one new worksheet per month, so we already have a nice collection of 12 available going into the new year. These have received a lot of positive feedback so far and I’ll keep making new ones in 2024 (already have a long list of ideas).

I’ll share more on my goals for 2024 soon, but let’s first take a look at the best self-improvement content that was published at The Emotion Machine in 2023…

    Best Articles/Worksheets of 2023

Here’s a list of my best articles and worksheets from 2023 by category.

    Near Future Plans

I haven’t yet worked on my goals timeline, an annual tradition I do at the beginning of every year, but I’ll give you a quick peak at my main work goals in the near future:

    • Worksheets – As mentioned, I will definitely continue making one new worksheet each month. They are easy evergreen content and I’ve received compliments on them. The “Daily Routine” PDF will be coming out mid-January 2024.
    • Coaching – I’m bringing this back. Took most of the year off to focus on website but I think coaching is one of my better and more rewarding strengths. I already set up a calendar for easy scheduling and updated my coaching page.
    • Podcasting – I have too many thoughts per day that could be turned into valuable content but never materialize anywhere. “Everyone has great ideas, but not everyone acts on them.” Just pressing the record button and letting my mind riff is easy content that I think people will find interesting. I just need to suck it up and do it. I already have a Soundcloud (with a lot of old content) that I just need to reactivate.
    • Literary Agent – This is new territory for me. I’ve been working closely with an upcoming author friend and we’ve been making plans on finishing her first manuscript and sending pitches to publishers. She just finished the rough draft last week, but I’m going to be working with her more closely on editing, feedback, and reaching out to publishers once we have things tidied up. I still need to do more research but it could be a good avenue for me. It plays on multiple strengths: 1) Understanding the creative process, 2) Motivating people to actually finish their projects, 3) Finding people who have talent and potential, 4) Rooting for other people’s success. It feels like a natural outgrowth of a lot of my past work with creative people (at music venues, art galleries, and coaching various writers, artists, musicians, and filmmakers).
    • Articles – This isn’t changing. I’ll still be publishing at least one new or updated article every week. These make up the backbone of the website and I have no shortage of ideas and no reason to stop writing them anytime soon. If you want me to write about a specific topic, just use the contact page and let me know. I have many interests but it’s easier for me to cater to what you guys want. Feedback makes the site better.

All in all I’m excited about 2024, and the ideas above feel like a perfect balance between “sticking with what works” vs. “trying new things.”

    Join Me In 2024

If you find this work valuable to your life and want more, join me and support me going into the new year.

My entire archive currently has over 850 articles covering a wide-range of subjects in psychology and self-improvement; and there’s plenty more to come in the future. I’m just getting started.

To be honest with you, some of my earlier articles may not have aged as well as others. When you consistently produce content over 14 years, you inevitably release some less-than-stellar pieces. It’s a part of the process – having both “winning streaks” and “losing streaks” is a universal theme in life.

Over the years, my beliefs, values, and interests have also shifted since I first started this site. There are things I wrote in the past that I don’t wholly agree with today. However, I choose to keep these old posts accessible because people often need different advice at various stages of their lives.

I bet that’s not the hottest sales pitch you’ve ever heard. At heart, I consider myself a teacher more than a salesman, and that means being sincere, honest, and truthful before everything else. If you’re looking for “one trick” to magically fix your life, you’re in the wrong place. I don’t have those – never found them.

All I can do is offer an array of tools, advice, and guidelines. You ultimately have to figure out what applies (or doesn’t) to your life. In truth, 80% of the content on this site may not interest you at all, but there’s that 20% that could be just what you need at this exact moment in your life.

What I can promise you is that I’m one of the most dedicated writers on self-improvement currently going. I’ve seen thousands of other “self help” sites rise and fall over the years, but I keep chugging away no matter what.

If you want to align with my commitment to happiness and well-being, then your first step is to join me.

Better yet, get a Yearly subscription, for two simple reasons: 1) You’re committing yourself to a year of self-improvement, and 2) It’s cheaper. I’m honestly saying this from a self-improvement perspective and not a sales one.

    Let’s Go…

  • Maria Conceição: Breaking Records to Help Underprivileged Kids

Maria Conceição: Breaking Records to Help Underprivileged Kids

    [ad_1]

Some heroes wear capes. Others wear some sort of form-fitting suit. Maria Conceição, on the other hand, wears unassuming belted floral-print flowy maxi dresses.

Don’t be thrown off by her choice of “capes.” It’s her life choices that’ve gotten her from being a toilet cleaner to an Emirates flight attendant to breaking not one, not two, but nine Guinness world records.

Oh wow!” is an appropriate response to this incredible feat. But the mind-blowing, this-is really-what-deserves-the-proper-oh-wow reason behind it all? To lift hundreds of children out of abject poverty from the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life has been honoring a promise I made to 100 mothers and families in Bangladesh that I was going to take them out of poverty,” she says on stage at Mindvalley University 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia.

That commitment was made in 2005. And it’s one that she’s stuck to like glue, transforming it into a lifelong mission that has reshaped not just her own destiny but the futures of those she’s vowed to uplift.

Watch the full 45-minute stage talk:

Ep #033 | How Maria Conceição Broke 9 Records to Help Children to Transform Their Lives

The Making of Maria Conceição’s Mission

The hardship and reality of survival that come with poverty aren’t a stark contrast to Maria’s own upbringing. Born in Portugal to a single mother, her earliest memories are of a world far removed from privilege.

When she was only two, her mother, grappling with joblessness, entrusted Maria to the care of Cristina, a kind-hearted Angolan refugee and widow who was also a cleaner. This new home, though crowded with Christina’s six children, offered Maria a haven of stability and warmth.

Unfortunately, tragedy was not far behind. At the age of nine, her world was upended by Cristina’s sudden death, thrusting her into an uncertain future.

Pretty much from that point, I was told the only thing I could expect to achieve in life was to be a cleaner,” she recalls. “At the age of 18, I told myself, if the only thing I’m going to achieve in life is to be a cleaner, I’ll refuse to ‘just be a cleaner.’ I’m going to be the Ronaldo or the Messi of the cleaning world.

Off she went to Switzerland. Then England. Each move was driven by a desire to transcend limiting beliefs and carve out a different path for herself.

But it was in Dubai, as an Emirates flight attendant, that the Maria Conceição arrived. Little did she know that a routine layover in Dhaka would expose her to the harrowing poverty of the slums—a haunting reminder of her own past and the catalyst for her life-changing commitment to the 100 mothers and families in Bangladesh.

    Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers

Here are the facts (as per the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights): By 2022, 20.5% of Bangladeshis living in rural areas were in poverty. In urban areas, the figure stood at 14.7%.

I understood what was the meaning of poverty, and I thanked God for everything I had and didn’t have. So what did I ended up doing? I ended up doing exactly what Cristina had done to my mother. I ended up promising these struggling families in the slams of Dhaka that I was going to take care of their children until they finished their education.

    — Maria Conceição

Raising funds for such a cause is not as easy as going door-to-door. Not everyone has the same virtues or values to hand over their hard-earned cash.

So what did Maria do? “I googled on the internet: What is the quickest and most efficient way to make money?

Short of going to Ellen or Oprah or anyone famous (which she tried, mind you), the digital ether whispered back with an idea as wild as it was daunting: the world of extreme challenges.

This is nothing new; tons of people have undertaken extreme endeavors for noble causes. Environmental advocate Roz Savage rowed across oceans to spotlight the urgency of protecting our planet. Adventurer Erik Weihenmayer, despite being blind, conquered the Seven Summits. Palestinian refugee Mostafa Salameh climbed Everest for peace and unity.

Maria was about to be the next. The thing was, though, Maria was no seasoned polar explorer. Yet, she plunged into the challenge with an enthusiasm that belied her novice status, breaking records in her wake.

She became the first Portuguese woman to go to the North Pole. Then, the first Portuguese woman to stand atop Everest. Then, running marathons (“seven marathons on seven continents” was just one of many), followed by attempting to swim from England to France, a climb up Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Denali, and Vinson, and “the first Portuguese woman to get to the South Pole and to get to Antarctica.”

The path to these triumphs was strewn with logistical nightmares, physical exhaustion, and the constant specter of financial strain. But even in the face of these adversities, Maria’s resolve remained steadfast.

Each record she shattered was not just a personal victory but a clarion call for the children of Dhaka—a signal that their plight was seen and their voices heard.

    Maria Conceição’s Undoubtable Ripple Effect

The society I belong from,” says Shahin Khan, one of the Dhakaiyans Maria helped, “everyone says, ‘no, no, no, no, no.’ And [Maria’s] like, ‘yes, yes, yes, yes.’”

Her impact is palpable. Children who once saw no path beyond the slum’s confines now dream of careers, of changing their worlds.

It seems like her aspiration to be a “Ronaldo” came true. “She’s like a ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ to all of us,” reflects Shoikat, another Dhakaiyan who’s known Maria since 2006. “It’s because of all the hard work that she has done for us and is still doing; she is doing it 24/7, never resting on any holidays. We see her every day working just for us to have a better future.”

Shahin and Shoikat are of the hundreds of lives that Maria has changed. The latest? A group of 22, with the help of friends and advisors to the Maria Cristina Foundation (including several Mindvalley members).

We talk a lot about this idea of living your most extraordinary life,” says Vishen, the founder of Mindvalley. Maria’s, as he points out, is the epitome of what this looks like.

[There are] very few people in the world who would inspire you by not only saying but also doing with you, sharing the journey with you. The mother of 600 kids, Maria, she has done that. She’s the best woman in the world.

    — Shahin Khan

She’s planted the seeds of change—seeds now sprouting into young adults. “The rewards are outstanding,” says Victoria Alcober, a client relationship manager based in Dubai, U.A.E. “To see these young people thrive and get further in life, achieve what they would never dreamed of without Maria’s presence.”

These individuals look to her as a role model, and consequently, they carry her legacy forward, spreading the message that from little things, big things grow.

    Be Part of the Story

While her commitment is to the 100 families, Maria’s mission transcends the underprivileged in Dhaka. It’s a catalyst for a broader awakening—one where her work is not an exception but an inspiration for systemic change and to contribute to the greater good.

I have never met anybody devoted to a goal like Maria is,” Victoria adds. “Whether training for the next adventure, pursuing great positions or internships for her students, or breaking a new record, she gives it all!

But beyond the tangible goals lies a deeper aspiration. Her aim? To create a self-sustaining model of empowerment where every success story fuels another, creating a chain reaction of empowerment and progress.

As Vishen points out, the goal is surely to raise funds to help the underprivileged. But it’s also to create more Maria Conceiçãos.

The goal is to inspire you guys in some way to just think a little bit beyond goals, visions, accomplishments that might simply benefit you,” says Vishen, “but what can you do to create a greater impact on the world.”

That’s the power of Maria’s story. It’s a true reminder of the impact one person can have, of the ripples that a single act of kindness can create, and of the enduring hope that can arise from the most challenging circumstances.

One of the greatest lessons I got from Maria’s thing is that the Universe will bless you if you’re thinking beyond just yourself. Things will happen.

    — Vishen, founder of Mindvalley

If you’d like to contribute to help continue the Maria Cristina Foundation mission and support its transformative work, consider donating to the Maria Cristina Foundation. Your generosity can fuel the cycle of empowerment and change, touching lives in ways that extend far beyond monetary value.

  • 5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Reverse Aging, Says Mary Cristine

5 Things You Can Do Right Now to Reverse Aging, Says Mary Cristine

    [ad_1]

The quest for youth is one that’s long been yearned for. From the mythical fountain to high-tech serums, each and every one in between holds the promise of being the ultimate anti-aging weapon.

The problem with that is, while we’re too consumed over physical looks, we forget that it is more than just physical looks,” says Mary Cristine, an integrative nutrition and gut specialist as well as the founder of BE THAT LIFE Integrative Health, in an episode of The Mindvalley Show with Vishen. “It’s actually more important how we age on the inside.”

Take it from this incredible 42-year-old (who—let’s be honest—looks more like a 20-year-old), it’s possible to reverse that cellular aging. When you do so, it’ll show in your physical aging.

    Watch the full 37-minute episode:

Ep #020 | 5 Science-Backed Techniques to Look Younger and Reverse Aging

What’s Up With the Intrigue of Reverse Aging and Longevity?

Appearing young is often synonymous with being at the peak of your game—energetic, agile, and ready for challenges. On the flip side, longevity speaks to a universal human wish to learn, to love, and to leave a legacy.

One may not seem correlated to the other, but scientifically, there’s a tangible connection between the two. In fact, a 2013 study revealed that individuals who look younger than their actual age tend to have lower blood pressure and better cognitive functioning.

The thing is, society puts such an emphasis on looking younger and living longer. So much so that many turn to Botox, mesotherapy, and other modalities to achieve that desired external look. And as a result, Mary explains, “they neglect how they’re meant to look on the inside,” a.k.a., cellular aging.

This is where the real battle for aging gracefully takes place. The actions you take to maintain a youthful exterior—be it through diet, exercise, or skincare—play a crucial role in slowing down cellular aging, ensuring that your quest for youth is as profound on the inside as it is on the outside.

Mary Cristine’s 5 Science-Backed Tips On How to Reverse Aging

There’s no denying that Mary looks amazing for her age. And it has very little to do with her genetics.

What are her secrets? How did she manage to look like she’s in her 20s when she’s actually in her 40s?

In her sit-down with Vishen, the founder of Mindvalley, she shares five simple tips to improve your skin health.

    1. Take in the morning sun

While a golden tan can make you feel like a sun-kissed god, too much exposure can have your skin crying for mercy. It’s a delicate balance—basking in the glory of the sun is essential for vitamin D, but the UV rays can be relentless on your skin, accelerating aging and damaging its health.

If you’re going out in the sun and not using any protection and going during peak hours, it will age you,” Mary says. In fact, Johns Hopkins Medicine supports this by stating that sunscreen is crucial in preventing sunburn, skin cancer, and the early signs of aging

It really is about timing and protection. So, as Mary advises, embrace the early morning or late afternoon light and always arm yourself with sunscreen as part of your daily routine. This way, you’ll soak up the benefits without letting the UV rays write a harsh story on your skin.

    2. Sleep well

You remember that saying, “You can sleep when you’re dead”? Toss it because, as it turns out, your nighttime slumber is actually a key biohacking strategy to maintain a youthful appearance and sharp mind.

There’s research that suggests getting either too little or too much has the potential to shorten the cells’ telomeres, the tiny caps at the ends of your DNA. This, unfortunately, can lead to poorer cognitive function and faster cognitive decline, as one study found.

The bottom line is, right amount of sleep (and let’s not forget quality!) protects your telomeres. It helps your cells—and, by extension, you—stay young and sharp. As Mary says, “it’s one of my top secrets for a youthful appearance.”

    3. The power of Retinol

Retinol, if you’re unfamiliar, is a vitamin A compound. Its job is to fortify your skin’s defenses, boost collagen, and usher in an era of elasticity and smoothness.

Basically, as we age, we lose a ton of collagen, and our skin is not as elastic anymore as it used to be,” Mary explains. “Retinol and vitamin A—apply it to your skin as an ointment daily; it really makes your skin so much younger.”

This isn’t just for the ladies; it’s a secret weapon for men, too. So before you hit the bed, let a retinol serum or cream be the last thing your skin savors. And come morning, wash away the remnants of the night and shield your skin with sunscreen.

It’s a simple step, but its impact on your visage is profound, keeping you looking as if you’ve just stepped out of a portrait of your younger self.

    4. The role of diet and supplements

Aging gracefully isn’t just about what you add to your diet; it’s also about what you avoid. Steering clear of unhealthy foods that can accelerate aging is just as important as the nutrients you embrace.

Mary highlights the following supplements for their roles in promoting cellular health and reversing aging:

    • Spermidine. Found in foods like broccoli, it aids in cellular renewal and longevity.
    • Resveratrol. An antioxidant that protects cells from aging.
    • NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide). Boosts energy production in cells, supporting their vitality.

These intentional choices in diet and supplementation are crucial for maintaining vitality and combating the aging process

    5. Cut down your sugar intake

Oh, sugar—the sweet nemesis of graceful aging. According to Mary, “anything over 24 grams of sugar a day is too much sugar.”

Unfortunately, it lurks in your favorite treats, whispering false promises of instant gratification. The thing is, we know consuming too much sugar can lead to obesity. But did you know that it causes glycation? (That’s where sugar in your body sticks to proteins and makes them stiff and not work well.)

We’re already losing a ton of collagen and elastin from our skin as we age,” Mary explains, “and glycation expedites that process.” So what are the consequences of sugary snacks? Wrinkles and other signs of aging.

But you hold the power to halt sugar’s insidious march. By reducing your intake, you’re not only thwarting wrinkles but also protecting the sanctity of your inner health.

  • Why Saba Yussouf’s Eco Spray Is the Invention of the Decade

Why Saba Yussouf’s Eco Spray Is the Invention of the Decade

    [ad_1]

There’s Greta Thunberg. There’s Christiana Figueres. And there’s Marina Silva. Also, Hilda Flavia Nakabuye.

These women are among the many well-known for their contributions to environmental activism and the fight against climate change.

One name rising up in the eco-arena is Saba Yussouf. Her mission? To revolutionize our approach to sustainability with her innovative technologies and empower people like you to join the crusade for a greener future.

    Watch the full episode:

Ep #032 | Saba Yussouf: The Scientist Revolutionizing Climate Change Solutions

Saba Yussouf: A Portrait of Determination and Innovation

The name Saba might mean “soft breeze” in Arabic, but Saba Yussouf is anything but. She is, in the truest sense, a force of nature.

I was reading about all these amazing inventions,” she recollects. “I couldn’t understand why we weren’t using these inventions of science and technology to help our planet, which was in severe decline.”

Her response? At the age of 28, she took on the role of director at Nanotera Group, a company at the cutting edge of sustainable energy innovation, and has guided it to a staggering valuation of $3 billion. This move was more than a career step; it was Saba rolling up her sleeves to start creating solutions herself.

Her bold innovations are part of a larger quest to clean the air and water, to reduce carbon footprints, and to inspire action. As the CEO of Invisi Smart Technologies, she’s not only propelling the biotech industry forward; she’s proving that barriers of nationality, religion, and gender don’t define capability or limit impact.

Each challenge she’s met—whether in the lab or as a Pakistani-British Muslim woman in a competitive field—has only fueled her drive to engineer a better future. Through her leadership and ingenuity, she’s redefining environmental innovation, showing the world that the most powerful solutions often come from those who have navigated the toughest storms.

The Invention That Could Change the World

Chances are, you’re all too aware of the alarm being raised about climate change, much like the comet on a collision course with Earth in the movie Don’t Look Up. It’s no longer the stuff of Hollywood scripts but a stark reality.

Our world may be nearing a tipping point, a stark warning highlighted in reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Consequently, there’s a pressing emphasis on the need for immediate and decisive action to prevent irreversible damage to our planet.

But where there’s a problem, there’s also a solution. Saba’s invention, the Invisi Smart Shield™ may just be the thing.

This innovation, backed by research from the University of Cambridge, utilizes a naturally occurring mineral—titanium dioxide (TiO2)—known for its bioactive antimicrobial properties. Spray it on anything and everywhere, according to Saba, and it’ll bind to harmful pathogens and pollutants and destroy them.

The byproduct? “Negligible gas and water vapor—that’s it,” she says.

Saba’s goal is ambitious yet clear: start by treating 20% of the world’s surfaces with Invisi Smart Shield™ (and later scale up). By doing so, “we can reduce the carbon in that environment by 50%”—a monumental leap toward a cleaner atmosphere.

We can decarbonize the atmosphere by up to 50% a year. — @realsabayussouf Click To Tweet

Fulfilling a dream she’s harbored since childhood, Saba has always aimed to unite science and environmental preservation. Now, with Invisi Smart Technology, she channels the power of love for her work and the environment, showing that we can all be architects of a healthier planet.

What’s Next for Saba Yussouf and Her Invention?

Beyond her groundbreaking inventions, Saba invites you to be a part of a collective wave of change. Your daily choices, as small as they may seem, have the power to shape our world’s carbon footprint. Because we are, after all, at a crucial juncture for our planet.

She offers a simple starting point: take a moment to assess your carbon footprint.

For instance, did you know that opening a web page emits carbon, just like nearly every other action you take online? By becoming more aware and taking the smallest steps to reduce your footprint, you play an essential role in our collective evolution toward a greener planet.

Make the smallest, tiniest changes, and it will change the world. We all, together, can contribute to evolution, and we can do it for free. — @realsabayussouf Click To Tweet

But she doesn’t stop there. If you’re nurturing any innovations, smart technologies, unique business ideas, or anything that can improve health equity and make a positive impact, she wants to hear from you.

If you have the idea, reach out to me,” she encourages. With a simple email to Saba at Invisi Smart Technologies, you could set in motion the next big environmental solution.

What’s more, she believes that together, without spending a dime, we can all contribute to saving our home.

  • Today’s Health & Fitness Trends Serve the Ego, Not the Body—Expert Ronan Diego Explains Why

Today’s Health & Fitness Trends Serve the Ego, Not the Body—Expert Ronan Diego Explains Why

    [ad_1]

Scroll down social media or flip any magazine, and more than likely, you’ll find countless images of “perfect” bodies. However, amid this visual overload, what’s often missing is this: a clear path to genuine health and fitness without the allure of quick fixes and unrealistic expectations.

The point of a great body is so you can truly experience life,” says Ronan Diego, the director of Health Programming at Mindvalley. And in an episode of The Mindvalley Show with Vishen, he shares invaluable insights into achieving just that.

    Watch the full episode:

Ep #015 | Learn How To Transform Your Relationship with Exercise and Fasting – Ronan Diego

Ronan Diego’s Unique Approach to Health & Fitness

Ronan Diego de Oliveira—or “Ronan Diego” for short—is not your typical fitness guru by any means. What sets his approach to health and fitness apart is his deep appreciation for the diversity of body types

The unfortunate reality is, many people are on a quest for what they perceive as the “perfect” body, striving to attain a physique like that of J.Lo or Arnold Schwarzenegger. And more often than not, they find themselves under self-imposed pressure that leads to anxiety and extreme restrictions, even affecting their social lives.

This,” explains Ronan, is when people use fitness to serve the ego, not serve the body.”

So he champions a different path—one that doesn’t restrict you to a single, predefined ideal. In his own words, “I’m going for what my body can do and what my body can feel like.” And it follows a more holistic perspective and recognizes the uniqueness of every individual.

His programs on Mindvalley—the 10X Quest and Beyond Fasting Quest—reflect this perspective and offer a range of options to suit your specific needs and goals. So whether you’re starting your health journey, seeking to optimize your fitness routine, or going into the fascinating world of intermittent fasting, Ronan has a program tailored for you.

How Can You Level Up Your Health & Fitness? Ronan Diego Explains

Considering that weight loss and physique improvement are top motivations for Americans’ dietary choices, it’s worth considering effective strategies to achieve these goals.

Ronan highlights three key ideas in the sit-down with Vishen: mindful eating, intermittent fasting, and 15-minute workouts. Let’s explore each to understand how they can transform your health and reshape your body.

    1. Mindful eating

Mindful eating is, as Ronan puts it, “why eat, when to eat, how to eat—the habits around eating that make that experience something more intentional.”

It doesn’t require you to starve or eliminate entire food groups. Instead, it focuses on the quality of your meals, the timing of your eating windows, and the intentionality behind your choices.

Moreover, research has shown that mindful eating can contribute to sustainable weight loss. It helps individuals make healthier food choices and manage emotional eating.

By cultivating a mindful approach to nourishment, you can develop a healthier connection with your body and its nutritional needs.

    2. Intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting can be a game-changer for burning fat and boosting your metabolic health. In his interview with Vishen, Ronan emphasizes the significance of intermittent fasting, showing you how to leverage this powerful tool for your benefit.

Fasting has this message to the body that is very interesting,” he explains. “There is a time of the day that you’re going without [food] and you are showing your body that it is resourceful.

The thing is, you may start feeling a little bit of hunger, and you may feel a desperation to eat. However, according to Ronan, the body is not that fragile; you can “go through 14, 16 hours without food and tap into your resources.”

One thing to highlight, though, is that while this practice can offer numerous benefits, including improved cognition and fat loss, it’s essential to approach it with awareness. For instance, when it comes to intermittent fasting for women, fasting beyond 14 hours may not be advisable as it can affect hormonal balance.

    3. The 10X fitness

Spending hours in the gym and grinding through workouts is okay, if that’s your cup of tea. However, if you prefer something less time-consuming yet want “more energy, more strength, more speed, and more endurance,” Ronan introduces a revolutionary concept—the 10X program.

It’s about a minimalist workout. These are based on high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and are designed to optimize muscle growth efficiently.

Let’s take push-ups, for example. Ronan explains that doing a large number of them quickly may not be the most effective way to build muscle. Instead, he suggests doing push-ups slowly, focusing on good form, and keeping your muscles under tension for as long as possible. This full-body workout can lead to better muscle mass and is more effective than doing many push-ups quickly.

The best part about this 10X workout? The recommended time is 15 minutes, twice a week.

And the result? A leaner, more powerful physique that reflects your commitment to your health.

    Take the Next Step

When it comes to your health and fitness, remember the philosophy of Ronan Diego: It’s about serving your body, not your ego. It’s not just about how you look, how you feel, and what your body can do.

So if you want to learn to make intentional choices that resonate with your body’s needs, explore Ronan’s transformative programs on Mindvalley:

    • 10X Quest for efficient and time-effective workouts, and
    • Beyond Fasting Quest for a mindful approach to nutrition and intermittent fasting.

The great thing is, when you sign up for a Mindvalley account (at no cost), you can watch the first classes for free. So, you have a chance to try before you fully dive in.

  • How to Make Your Honeymoon Phase Last, According to Jamie Wheal

How to Make Your Honeymoon Phase Last, According to Jamie Wheal

    [ad_1]

Many of us go into a relationship all lovey-dovey. We can’t keep our hands off our partners. And the sex? Amazing.

But as weeks, months, years go by, life does what it does best—it happens. With jobs and kids thrown into the mix, the lust burns out.

What if there was a way, though, to ignite that spark again? And not only that, but keep it burning?

There’s this giant missing chapter of the story of human sexuality and what we can do with it,” explains Jamie Wheal, the founder of the Flow Genome Project and author of Recapture the Rapture: Rethinking God, Sex, and Death in a World That’s Lost Its Mind, on The Mindvalley Show with Vishen.

If we understand it and if we can then reclaim it,” he adds, “[we can] put it towards the highest purposes and passions of our existence.”

Ep #017 | Sex, Psychedelics, and How to Make Your Honeymoon Phase Last Forever

Jamie Wheel On Why Sex Is Important In a Relationship

Sex—it’s often associated with pleasure or to continue our lineage. However, it’s also a profound language of love and an expression of trust. And it’s one of the most effective relationship hacks to deepen our connections as a species.

As Jamie says, “Our whole pleasure and reward system maps one to one with the sexual arousal network because if any animal doesn’t figure out how to procreate, we die.”

But how deep does this bond go in real-life relationships? The Pew Research Center provides some insights: many married and cohabiting couples are satisfied with their sex lives; however, it’s the married ones who often feel a deeper emotional connection. In fact, 78% of them view their spouse as their closest confidant, compared to 55% of cohabiting couples.

This data, however, doesn’t detract from the importance of sex; instead, it reinforces Jamie’s insights that sex is a gateway to deeper states of bonding and understanding. The essence isn’t just in the act, but in the shared experiences, the mutual explorations, and the unity it can foster between two individuals.

The science behind sex and lasting relationship bliss

When two people come together, it’s not just about feeling good and harnessing their sexual energy. In fact, there’s a whole list of benefits that come along with this type of pleasure.

Sexual activity promotes the release of four key chemicals. These are dopamine, which rewards and motivates us; endorphins, which relieve pain and stress; oxytocin, which bonds and connects us; and serotonin, which stabilizes mood and well-being.

Research even shows that sex generally improves relationships. Here’s a closer look at three:

    • A 2016 study published in the Journal of Family Psychology suggests that having a good sex life is important for a happy long-term relationship.
    • Another study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy found that both good communication and a satisfying sex life make marriages happier.
    • One more study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found that if dating couples don’t have as much sex as they want, it can make them less happy, and their relationship might not last as long.

So doing the “good thing” creates intense pleasure and improves your mood, for sure. But it also promotes communication and bonding, relieves stress and pain, promotes memory, and increases self-esteem.

Once you’re in that neurochemical state, creating a neurochemical cascade,” Jamie highlights, “magically, you feel lust. You feel attraction. You feel novelty.”

How to Spice Up Your Sex Life? Here Are 5 Tips From Jamie Wheal

Maintaining a sex life, let alone a thriving one, can pose a challenge. And it’s especially true for females looking to have sex after menopause or males who’re going through a midlife crisis.

But it can’t be denied that the zest for intimacy and passion remains essential throughout your life. So what can you do about it? In his sit-down with Vishen, Jamie laid out three pivotal ways to keep the flame burning in any relationship.

    1. Sexual fitness—make it a routine

Having a good sex life is like working out; it needs regular attention. And the practice of doing so can be done intentionally.

We have the ability to, like, literally make love,” Jamie explains. “We can create and precipitate the neurochemical cascade.”

So what’s the next step? Set aside consistent time for intimacy, just as you would for a gym session. This not only keeps the passion alive and deepens your bond, but it also naturally boosts your sexual confidence as an added bonus.

    2. Timing is everything

Understanding a woman’s rhythms can elevate intimacy to new heights. Throughout the month, women’s bodies undergo a series of hormonal changes known to influence mood, energy, and desire.

In fact, research in the journal Hormones and Behavior notes a peak in women’s sexual desire around ovulation, credited to a spike in estrogen levels. Conversely, the latter half of the cycle sees a rise in progesterone, sometimes leading to symptoms like mood swings.

If you’re going to plan what, you know, in the UK they call your ‘dirty weekend,’ where are you going to go away to a hotel right to make love and have privacy, you want to time it 100% for the weekend that overlaps with the woman’s ovulatory week,” Jamie points out.

And so, understanding these natural rhythms and being attuned to your partner’s unique cycle can be incredibly transformative.

    3. Master the art of cl*t stimulation

Society has made rapid progress in many fields, yet it wasn’t until the late ‘90s that urological surgeon Helen O’Connell fully mapped the anatomy of the clitoris. This complex structure boasts nerve endings that far surpass those in a man’s counterpart.

This organ, radiating around a woman’s pelvis, offers a vast realm of stimulation and sensation, essential for understanding genuine feminine pleasure.

To harness its power, Jamie suggests trying a month-long commitment: 15 minutes a day of focused clitoral stimulation with no further expectations. This approach, according to research, not only bolsters intimacy but also lays the groundwork for genuine mutual understanding.

Plus, it’s crucial to synchronize timings: before even considering penetration, ensure a woman has experienced at least one orgasm. Such simple shifts can immensely transform the landscape of a relationship, reigniting passion and deepening connection.

    4. Afternoon delights, anyone?

Job, family responsibilities, and all else—there’s always so much going on. So it’s no wonder intimacy often takes a backseat, and our sexual confidence dwindles as the urge for sex turns into “I’m too tired.”

Here’s the thing to understand, though: The natural rhythm of a man’s testosterone, as Jamie explains, is that the man will wake up often with an erection, which will taper through the morning, and come back up in the early afternoon with more oxytocin.

If a woman just wants, you know, a quick and dirty, your morning man’s the guy, right?” he adds. “But if she actually wants relatedness and connection with passion, afternoon delight, skyrockets in flight, right? That’s the time.”

So, couples should prioritize intimacy, perhaps scheduling an “afternoon delight”—no excuses… Well, maybe sexcuses.

    5. Forget the wine—try these aphrodisiacs instead

We often don’t realize that many of us already mix drugs with sexuality, from alcohol to antidepressants like SSRIs. And the thing is, they can significantly dampen libido. The pressing question is: how can we harness chemicals responsibly to optimize our sexual experiences?

Psychedelic pioneers like Sasha Shogun and his wife Anne delved into this very question, meticulously documenting their erotic adventures under the influence of various substances. They found compounds like 2CB from the mescaline family to be both magical and arousing. Others, like MDMA (widely recognized as “ecstasy”), on the other hand, posed challenges for male arousal.

Venturing into these territories can unlock profound experiences, from deeply personal traumas to expansive, collective empathies. As a result, they forever change one’s perspective on intimacy.

It’s important to note, though, to tread with caution. Consult with trusted medical professionals and do your due diligence before experimentation.

    Unleash Your Sensual Surge

The constant touching and playing turns into absentminded, robotic kisses and “you’re in and then you’re out.” It’s the typical love story, and it happens to the best of us. But when it does, you know it’s time to resuscitate your sex life.

You can absolutely dive into Jamie Wheal’s books, Stealing Fire: How Silicon Valley, the Navy SEALs, and Maverick Scientists Are Revolutionizing the Way We Live and Work and Recapture the Rapture: Rethinking God, Sex, and Death in a World That’s Lost Its Mind, for insights and wisdom.

By committing to sexuality as a practice and perfecting how to make love, how to actually prime the neurochemistry of the lust and the attraction that fires us up in the beginning,” says Jamie, “we can actually bring it back and light our path ahead.”

The Diamond Sutra: A Guide to Life’s Deeper Meanings

    [ad_1]

In the rapid pulse of today’s digitized era, amidst the noise of tweets, posts, and endless scrolling, there lies a silent echo of ancient wisdom. Can you hear it?

It’s a voice that’s been resonating for over a thousand years—a whisper from the heart of the Gobi Desert. The Diamond Sutra beckons, offering solace and enlightenment to those who seek it.

But what is this sacred text? And why should you, in this day and age, care about it?

    What Is the Diamond Sutra?

At its core, the Diamond Sutra is part of Buddhism’s ancient teachings (not the gleaming jewel its name might suggest). This isn’t just any guide; it’s a record of a profound conversation meant to unravel the intricacies of existence and enlightenment.

The sacred text has a captivating origin. Nestled within the secluded chambers of the Dunhuang caves, it remained silent and undisturbed for centuries. These caves, often likened to time capsules, offer glimpses into a world long gone. In that world, the Silk Road wasn’t just a trade route; it was the beating heart of civilization, pumping knowledge, culture, and spiritual teachings across continents.

In the realm of Buddhist texts, the Diamond Sutra holds a unique place. Its teachings are deeply rooted in ancient wisdom, no doubt. But the questions it poses and the insights it provides are startlingly relevant, even in today’s bustling modern world:

How do we find meaning amidst chaos? How can we lead a life that doesn’t just chase material pursuits?

The Diamond Sutra beckons every reader to pause, reflect, and discover truths that resonate across ages. Plus, there’s a charm in connecting with a voice from the past, especially one that seems to understand the dilemmas of the present.

When was the diamond sutra written and printed?

The Diamond Sutra text was printed in 868 CE, during the 4th moon of the Xiantong era. This date places it ahead of many renowned historical texts.

Where was the Diamond Sutra printed?

The origins of the Diamond Sutra trace back to China, a country with a deep cultural heritage and a convergence point for various spiritual ideologies.

Buddhism itself branched into two main paths, Theravada and Mahayana. Interestingly, it’s the latter, which believes that all beings—not just monks—can attain enlightenment, that became more prevalent in China.

And though Buddha’s profound insights originated in Nepal, the very fact that the Diamond Sutra was printed in China shows the extensive reach and embrace of his teachings.

Where is the Diamond Sutra located?

Fast forward to today, and you’ll find the Diamond Sutra nestled in the heart of London, within the prestigious corridors of the British Library. (For the tech-savvy souls of our age, you can view it digitally, which is bound to give you an immersive dive into ancient philosophies.)

Thanks to the International Dunhuang Project (of which the British Library is a part), a universe of relics and manuscripts has been unlocked. And just like the Silk Road connected different cultures years ago, this digital project now links us to ancient wisdom with just a click.

In this mix of the past and present, the Diamond Sutra shows us the timeless strength of knowledge. And it takes us back to a world filled with endless wisdom.

    Prayer pose

What Is the Diamond Sutra About?

As one of the most revered Buddhist sutras, the Diamond Sutra is a conversation between the Buddha and his disciple, Subhuti. It dives deep into the mysteries of existence, exploring themes like the essence of reality, the fleeting nature of life, and the path to enlightenment.

As the pages turn, you’re invited to embark on a transformative journey. Through the words of the Buddha and Subhuti, there are the core tenets of Mahayana Buddhism, such as Sunyata (emptiness), the concept of no-self, and what true enlightenment means.

The beauty of this text lies not just in its ancient wisdom but also in its universal appeal. While rooted in Buddhist philosophy, its teachings resonate with anyone seeking clarity and understanding in life.

A myth we have believed throughout our lives is that we have to ‘get’ happiness, and if we can just get the external details of our lives right, we will be happy,” Gelong Thubten, a Buddhist monk and trainer of Mindvalley’s Becoming More Loving Quest, explains. “This is not happiness; it is a form of enslavement.”

So with the Diamond Sutra, it challenges you to question your perceptions, urging you to look beyond the surface. By contemplating the sutra’s teachings, you begin to realize that your understanding of the self, the world, and existence itself is far more nuanced than you often assume.

    Diamond Sutra Summary

As mentioned, the heart of the Diamond Sutra is a dialogue—a meaningful exchange between the Buddha and Subhuti. With their discussion of the nature of reality and enlightenment, it becomes clear that this sutra doesn’t stand alone. It’s actually part of a grand tapestry of interconnected wisdom.

The Four Noble Truths, for instance, explore the existence of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path leading to the cessation. The Diamond Sutra touches upon these truths, emphasizing the impermanent nature of life and how our attachments often lead to suffering.

Similarly, the Eightfold Path—a guideline for ethical and mental development with the goal of freeing individuals from attachments and delusions—finds its essence reflected in the Diamond Sutra. The sutra encourages right understanding, right intention, and the kind of ethical conduct that the Eightfold Path promotes, all leading toward enlightenment.

Moreover, the Heart Sutra, another cherished text in Mahayana Buddhism, shares a deep kinship with the Diamond Sutra. They both look into the concept of “Sunyata,” or emptiness. While the former is like a short summary of Buddhist ideas, the latter goes into more detail, giving readers a more expansive view.

Simply put, the Diamond Sutra is like a bridge, connecting various pillars of Buddhist thought. It’s a harmonious blend of philosophy and guidance, linking age-old wisdom into a cohesive understanding of life and beyond.

    Diamond sutra quotes

The best way to tap into the ancient power of this sutra is by exploring its passages. Even though this ancient text was originally written in Sanskrit, English translations are available. And this makes it more accessible to tap into its life-transforming messages.

Here are some powerful passages from the Diamond Sutra used in Buddhist meditation. See if you can tap into its deeper meaning.

So you should view all of the fleeting worlds:

    A star at dawn, a bubble in the stream;

    A flash of lightning in a summer cloud;

A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.”

Some of them taught that all worldly things are unreal, because [they are] a result of the perverted views. Only that which transcends worldly things and can be called “emptiness,” being the absence of them all, is real.”

It is a perfection that does not aim at completion. Rather, it is wisdom based on practice through which one is always progressing toward the ideal.”

How Can I Use the Wisdom of the Diamond Sutra In My Own Life?

The timeless teachings of the Diamond Sutra aren’t just ancient words on paper. They’re actionable insights that can profoundly influence your modern-day existence.

Wondering how? Here are three steps to integrate this age-old wisdom into your daily life:

    1. Practice mindfulness. Just as the yoga sutras emphasize the power of meditation and stillness, the Diamond Sutra encourages self-awareness. By regularly tuning into your own thoughts and emotions, you can understand the fleeting nature of life. Setting aside moments in your day, whether it’s through meditation, reflective reading, or simply quiet contemplation, allows you to stay present and connected to yourself.
    1. Seek beyond the material. In today’s world, it’s easy to get caught up in the chase for the next big thing. The Diamond Sutra teaches the importance of looking beyond materialistic desires. This doesn’t mean giving up on comforts but finding contentment in simplicity and recognizing the impermanence of material possessions.
    1. Chant or reflect regularly. Unlike typical books, spiritual sutras like the Diamond Sutra are meant for continuous exploration. Consider creating a routine where you recite or reflect on passages that resonate with you. Over time, you’ll find these words guiding you, helping to bring clarity to challenging situations, and grounding you in times of chaos.

By adopting these practices, you’re not just reading about ancient teachings—you’re living them. In doing so, you open the door to compassion

It’s as Gelong explains: “The sense of heart expansion, connecting with all sentient beings.” And that can lead you to a more enlightened and fulfilled life.

Netflix shelves basic membership plan in the US; Here’s what options remain for viewers

    [ad_1]

In a recent move, Netflix has bid farewell to its basic membership plan without ads in the U.S. The streaming giant has now updated its Help Center page, announcing that the Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members. However, existing members on the Basic plan can continue enjoying its benefits until they choose to change plans or cancel their account.

Netflix makes changes in subscription options

Netflix users in the U.K. and Canada have previously experienced a similar shift, as the $9.99-per-month basic membership was phased out. The streaming platform now offers two ad-free alternatives: the Standard plan at $15.49 per month and the Premium plan at $19.99 per month. Additionally, the Standard with Ads option, which comes at a price $3 cheaper than the discontinued basic plan, remains available for members to choose from.

While this change may raise questions among subscribers, Netflix maintains that its prices are competitive and deliver great value to consumers. The company cites its starting prices of $6.99 in the U.S. and £4.99 in the U.K., emphasizing the extensive range and top-notch quality of its catalog. Netflix aims to enhance user experience while maintaining its position as a leading provider of premium entertainment content.

About Netflix’s Ad-supported plan and its success

Approximately eight months ago, Netflix introduced its ad-supported plan at a monthly cost of $6.99. This offering quickly garnered a substantial user base, with around 5 million active users in the U.S., the U.K., and 10 other countries by May. As the streaming giant approaches its second-quarter results disclosure, industry experts are keen to see how this ad-supported option continues to perform.

When questioned about the recent changes and pricing, Netflix expressed confidence in its decision, affirming the value it brings to customers through its diverse content library and competitive prices. The streaming service remains committed to providing a top-notch viewing experience to its ever-growing subscriber base.

As Netflix adapts its subscription options and policies, it continues to be a dominant force in the streaming industry. The company’s growth in subscribers over the past year demonstrates the ongoing appeal of its vast array of captivating shows and movies.

membership card when going through the self-checkout process. The Dallas Morning News first reported on the development last week.

A Costco spokesperson emphasized that the company’s policy isn’t changing, as the it always required membership cards at checkout. With the rise of self checkout, however, the company has noticed non-members using cards that don’t belong to them.

“We don’t feel it’s right that non-members receive the same benefits and pricing as our members,” a Costco spokesperson said.

The company indicated on its last earnings call that it was likely to hold off on increasing its membership fees, even as an analyst suggested Costco would appear to have room for a hike.

“Our view right now is that we’ve got enough levers out there to drive business,” Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti said on the earnings call, although his view is that Costco would be able to increase fees if it wanted to without meaningfully crimping renewal or signup rates.

Costco offers Gold Star and Business memberships for $60 each annually, as well as an Executive membership that costs $120. That higher tier of membership gives consumers a 2% reward on qualifying purchases from the company, among other benefits.
