Spotify CEO Hints That Meghan Markle’s ‘Archetypes’ Podcast Was Cancelled Because It Didn’t Work

    [ad_1]

    By ETCanada.com Staff.

Spotify chose to cancel Meghan Markle’s “Archetypes” podcast after just one season, and the company’s CEO is now hinting at the reason.

Speaking with BBC News, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek discussed the companies struggles in podcasting, which included severing the $25 million deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“The truth of the matter is some of it has worked, some of it hasn’t,” Elk said. “We’re learning from those and we are moving on,” he added, as reported by Page Six.

Clearly, “Archetypes” was one that didn’t work, and he explained of his vision as Spotify becoming a platform for podcasters.

“We thought we can come in and offer a great experience that both makes consumers very happy and allows new creators new avenues.”

Without mentioning the Sussexes by name, they were lumped in with the other failed podcasts that Spotify chose to dump.

  • Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Chris Evans and Alba Baptista Reportedly Met In Portugal

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Chris Evans and Alba Baptista Reportedly Met In Portugal

    [ad_1]

Even when you’re a big star, the world can be weirdly small.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly ran into none other than Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as well as his new bride Alba Baptista while the Sussexes took a low-key jaunt to Portugal in late September.

According to Page Six, the couples didn’t know each other before the chance meeting at an eatery abroad, and the unnamed source called the power meeting of the power couples completely coincidental.

Vanity Fair has reached out to representatives for the Sussexes for comment.

While no details are known about the run-in, including if it was a “hey, I know that guy” type nod and wave or a full-on conversation or what, it’s nice for the sake of international relations to think about a budding friendship between Harry and Evans. They’re both sons who have taken a step back from their kingdoms (Harry’s literal, Evans’ with the whole done-ish with the Marvel Cinematic Universe thing). Maybe Markle and Baptista compared notes on the unfairness of being largely referred to as “the wife” by their spouses’ fans, despite having storied careers in their own right.

They certainly could have all traded pointers on keeping things low-key: At Alba and Evans’ wedding last month, guests handed over phones and were required to sign NDAs, and Meghan and Harry’s Portugal trip was so under the radar that their reps haven’t even confirmed that the getaway after the Invictus Games happened at all. Just call them the International (Wo)Men of Mystery. There’s a movie we’d watch.

  • Meghan Markle Is Still Taking Style Cues From Her “Suits” Character

Meghan Markle Is Still Taking Style Cues From Her “Suits” Character

    [ad_1]

As its streaming resurgence proves, “Suits” is a stellar show with its own merits — epic one-liners, a quick-witted and equally attractive cast of characters, and of course, the suits. It’s also the legal drama that introduced many of us to Meghan Markle, as well as her character Rachel Zane‘s fabulous corporate fashion. While each Pearson Specter Litt lawyer has style worth admiring, Zane’s in particular is striking, as much of her wardrobe mirrors Markle’s ensembles in real life.

Markle’s style has certainly evolved since she left the series in 2011, but remnants of her preppy “Suits” costumes remain present today. As both a working royal and private citizen, she embraced her now-signature styling cues like tonal dressing, a preppy pencil skirt combo, and affinity for a crisp button-down.

While her sartorial choices leaned more neutral and conservative while a royal — she’s since spoken about sticking to muted tones like camel, beige, and white to avoid drawing attention to herself — her looks have been consistent. Even as she’s adopted a more casual wardrobe living in California, the mom of two still has her go-to outfit formulas, perhaps influenced by her days as the paralegal-turned-attorney she played on “Suits.”

In fact, recent rewatches of the show had us wondering whether Markle snagged a few pieces from Zane’s closet when she moved to the UK and back to California. Among the many similarities, the former actor and her character both love a casual yet elevated look, usually consisting of a loose dress shirt and expert tailoring.

“Meghan and I loved Rachel’s clothes,” “Suits” costume designer Jolie Andreatta said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK back in 2018. “We’d always say that, if we could, we would live in Rachel’s clothes.” While she might not be living in Zane’s exact pieces, it’s safe to say Markle may have drawn fashion inspiration from her character.

From chic monochrome outfits to double-breasted silhouettes, take a look at the key pieces and outfit formulas that define both the duchess and Zane’s wardrobes.

  • Meghan Markle’s Former Co-Star In Hot Water After Posting Throwback Photos

Meghan Markle’s Former Co-Star In Hot Water After Posting Throwback Photos

    [ad_1]

USA Network drama Suits has been off the air since 2019, a year after star Meghan Markle left the series for a move to London, where her life became a much different sort of drama. The show’s record-breaking release on Netflix this summer ushered in a wave of Suits nostalgia that star Patrick J. Adams attempted to surf this week. The result, unfortunately for Adams, was a wipeout.

Within the Suitsiverse, Adams played Mike Ross, a man who pretended to be an attorney but who actually was not. Markle played Rachel Zane, a paralegal with arguably greater qualifications and skills than Ross, but who was largely relegated to the role of girlfriend (to Ross), her greater ambitions subsumed by the romantic plotline. Funny how that happens.

But with Suits again—or, perhaps, for the first time—part of the public conversation and Markle a constant figure in the global discourse, you can see why Adams thought this week might be a good one to remember the good times for all to see. The actor dropped multiple Instagram posts of photos from behind the Suits scenes, including “previously unseen” pictures of Markle, as People notes.

“This well is deeeep,” Adams wrote in a caption to one of the posts. “Let’s get serious. Seriously,” he captioned another post, all of which contained numerous images from the Suits set.

But if you want to see any of those photos, you’re out of luck. Adams has since deleted them from his account, and instead posted an apology after realizing the posts were in violation of the ongoing Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike.

As part of the strike, actors are not allowed to “promote struck work or struck companies on social media,” a restriction that Adams said—in a since-expired Instagram story—he was “gently and swiftly course corrected” about by his followers.

“The last couple of days I foolishly and thoughtlessly let a trip down Suits memory lane distract me from the very real and ongoing fight everyone in @sagaftra continues to wage in its effort to win our membership realistic 21st-century compensation and protections,” Adams wrote in the post.

“It was an embarrassing oversight for which I’m incredibly sorry,” he wrote. “I look forward to continuing the fight in the days and weeks ahead.”

This isn’t the first time Adams’s Instagram posts have gotten him in trouble. In 2018, he posted a photo of a woman asleep in an airport, and accused her of “body shaming” after she allegedly said a photo of him at Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry was unflattering. After his followers accused him of bullying the woman, he deleted the woman’s picture, explaining as he did that he “took it down, not because I felt the woman was right or fair or undeserving of being called out but because any sense of being a bully or lashing out felt wrong.”

“Now, if you see the original post on any media outlet, just know that they are choosing to take a relatively small indiscretion and make it worse,” Adams wrote at the time. “Believe pretty much nothing you read in magazines. Good or bad. The machinery runs on misfortune and oversimplification.”

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Took a Personal Side Trip to Portugal After Invictus Games

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Took a Personal Side Trip to Portugal After Invictus Games

    [ad_1]

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle participated in the time-honored tradition of bleisure—the combination of traveling for business and leisure, that is—and reportedly popped over to Portugal for a few days after the close of this year’s Invictus Games.

Local outlet Nova Gente first reported the royals’ three-day jaunt, tacked onto the end of their duties at the games, which Harry co-founded to honor wounded and ill veterans and active military personnel and give a chance to compete in various sporting events. According to translation from Page Six, Harry and Meghan jetted from Dusseldorf to Lisbon, Portugal on September 16, then headed to CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in what Nova Gente called a “mega-secret operation.” (Vanity Fair has reached out to reps for the Sussexes for comment.)

During their reported three-day stay, the Sussexes spent time with Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Brooksbank works at the resort in a marketing and sales role, and he and Eugenie, along with their two sons, typically split their time between Portugal and London.

An unnamed “insider” told the local outlet that “the choice of this location would have been related to a possible invitation from Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie who, since the start of last year, has been spending a lot of time in this part of the Alentejo because of her husband’s work.”

Since resigning their roles as working senior royals in a shock move in 2020, Harry and Meghan’s relationship with much of the royal family has been strained, to say the least: Harry observed the first anniversary of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s passing alone recently, and he attended father King Charles III’s coronation, but didn’t participate in the ceremonial festivities and swiftly exited the U.K. after. Markle did not attend, despite wig-related theories to the contrary. The Sussex’s relationship with Eugenie and her family, however, remains close. She has supported the couple personally and professionally after their exit, participating in their Archewell Foundation charity, and has hung out with them many times, including attending the Super Bowl with Harry last year. (Brooksbanks and Markle stayed behind in Montecito for that one.) She was also reportedly one of the first members of the royal family to be told when Meghan and Harry started dating in 2016.

  • Gen Z Loves TikTok-Viral Quiet-Luxury Beauty—Here’s Why

    Gen Z Loves TikTok-Viral Quiet-Luxury Beauty—Here’s Why

    [ad_1]

You’re a content creator praised for your elegant style and founder of the skincare line, Marie Louise Cosmetics. What was the inspiration behind the brand?

I launched it during my junior year of college at Howard as a pre-med student. I pivoted after its launch and came back to L.A. (where I’m from), to focus on the brand full time. This was during the boom between 2013 and 2015 when everyone on Youtube was doing DIY skincare, and I was completely obsessed with it!

I have really dry, eczema-prone skin, so I was making face masks and creams to try, and one of the girls on my dorm floor asked if I was selling it. The premise of the brand is reviving older beauty rituals of the past in new, fun, and fresh ways for Gen Z and young millennials. It’s taking all the things we loved about the beauty rituals the women of our family taught us and re-engineering those for the future.

Recently, there’s been an uptick in searches for the quiet luxury aesthetic among social media users (especially TikTok). What is your definition of the term and how, if at all, does it apply to your lifestyle?

I think it’s interesting because I was in no way intentionally trying to jump on the quiet luxury trend. My wedding just happened to be at a time that was really popular on social media! I think the wedding was grouped into people’s idea of what quiet luxury is, whether that’s their definition of what a luxury-driven wedding would look like compared to something else, or the style of dress. Certain beauty products and brands have definitely played a role in the aesthetic since people will select what they think pertain to it.

Right now, I like to think of it as valuing quality over quantity. It may not be the amount of something you show, but more highlighting or prioritizing one of something that is super special. My personal idea of luxury still goes back to quality. But anything can be luxurious. Having access to water bottles is luxurious for some, while going to the mall on a Monday and having a solo lunch can be luxurious to others. For me, something doesn’t have to be designer or expensive to be luxurious.

“🌟What a special moment! 🌟,” the nonprofit Diakonie Düsseldorf Karriere shared on Instagram, along with a photo of Markle posing with the women and children at TrébeCafé.

“For our mother-child group clients, the surprise was big when Meghan Markle was suddenly at the door. Although we announced a special guest, the young women were not expecting the Duchess 😊,” the caption continued, translated from German. “The visitors to the TrebeCafé openly told the Duchess about their earlier life on the street, how they got to know the TrebeCafé and how they got back on track with the support of the staff.

Meghan Markle’s Bodycon Lace Dress Is Covered in Delicate Cutouts

    [ad_1]

Meghan Markle wrapped up her 2023 Invictus Games fashion tour on a colorful note. At the closing ceremony in DĂźsseldorf, Germany, on Sept. 16, the Duchess of Sussex wore a teal lace column dress by celebrity-adored brand Cult Gaia. The strapless ankle-length design was covered in floral embroidery, and the skirt featured delicate cutouts precisely made by lasers. It was an edgy, vibrant pick compared to some of the more subdued style choices of her past.

Markle accessorized the form-fitting dress with a gold Cartier Love bracelet, diamond hoop earrings by Kimai, and her favorite beige Aquazzura pumps, which she’s worn on repeat for years now. She attended the event with husband Prince Harry, who layered a navy suit over a black button-down shirt for the occasion.

At this year’s Invictus Games, Markle perfectly embodied the quiet-luxury fashion trend, stepping out in a series of monochromatic looks. The former “Suits” star paired a black and white J.Crew cardigan with Staud shorts to attend a wheelchair basketball competition on Sept. 13, and later that day, she changed into another affordable J.Crew sweater — this time, a black tank top — for the swimming finals. Other standout looks from the week include a white cable-knit Polo sweater vest, a black pleated Banana Republic shirt dress, and beige Cuyana separates.

Read ahead to admire Markle’s grand finale outfit at the Invictus Games, and then look back on her style evolution through the years for even more fashion inspiration.

  • Meghan Markle, Katie Holmes, and Kendall Jenner Just Wore Fall’s Prettiest Trend

Meghan Markle, Katie Holmes, and Kendall Jenner Just Wore Fall’s Prettiest Trend

    [ad_1]

Between New York Fashion Week and Meghan Markle’s many appearances at the Invictus Games, it’s been quite a week for celebrity sightings. And now that it’s September, people are starting to dabble in fall trends, and I love to see it. I especially love to see it when celebrities have favorite trends in common. And one of them was quick to emerge this week.

Satin was a trend that was spotted on the F/W 23 runways of Tory Burch, Saint Laurent, and Ferragamo (among others), and now it’s been spotted on Meghan Markle, Katie Holmes, and Kendall Jenner within hours of each other. I think it’s safe to say that it’s one of fall’s prettiest trends, if not the prettiest. Whether in jewel tones, pastels, or neutrals, a garment just looks so much more luxe when the fabric is satin—as you can see with Jenner and Markle’s button-downs and Holmes’ pencil skirt.

Keep scrolling to see how these three celebs styled their satin, and shop some of my favorite pieces if you love the trend as much as they do.

Meghan Markle continues her quiet-luxury streak with yet another look that has sent fans shopping. While dramatic outfits often grab the general public’s attention, Markle, 42, has managed to steal hearts in simple and refined designs. While greeting fans at the wheelchair basketball final on day four of the 2023 Invictus Games with Prince Harry, she opted for a sweater vest by J.Crew and high-waisted cropped skinny jeans from Frame with a classic pair of black pumps from Aquazzura. She topped the look with minimal gold jewelry, including Luna Skye’s baguette diamond leaf studs, Lorraine Schwartz diamond rings, a yellow-gold Cartier Tank Française watch, and her Cartier Love bangle.

The former “Suits” star‘s influence on her loyal followers is reminiscent of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s. Like Diana, who started many trends, including the “revenge dress,” Markle has the same infectious impact. Just a day before this exact appearance, the mom of two wore her infamous J.Crew ivory cardigan, which caused the brand’s website to crash when an influx of shoppers immediately tried to purchase the item. She’s also paid sartorial homage to the Princess of Wales on many occasions, including her debut at the 2018 Royal Ascot, wearing Givenchy, along with her red-and-purple colorblock outfit while pregnant with Archie — a clear nod to Diana’s bold looks during her global travels in the early ’90s.

But Markle has also made her own mark on fashion, gravitating toward vibrant colors and pieces with subtly sultry details. She most notably wore a Johanna Ortiz gold strapless cutout dress for the 2023 Women of Vision Awards and an emerald number by Giorgio Armani during a trip to Indianapolis, reminding fans of her pre-royal style. She also recently coordinated with the duke in classy camel outfits for an Archewell video.

While an athletic event usually calls for your best jersey and a functional skirt or pair of shorts, for Meghan Markle, a day of sports means something a bit more refined. On Sept. 13, the Duchess of Sussex attended her husband Prince Harry’s sixth annual Invictus Games in DĂźsseldorf, Germany, a multisport event catered to wounded servicemen and women after serving in Afghanistan. For the occasion, Markle, 42, wore an ensemble that nodded to the quiet-luxury trend, while maintaining her signature sophisticated style. Her preppy outfit included a black scoop-neck top, pleated shorts from Staud, black-and-beige Chanel slingbacks, and an ivory cardigan with black trim and gold buttons from J.Crew, the latter of which caused an unsurprising temporary crash of the company’s site when excited fans tried to shop it. Markle completed the look with a Givenchy logo buckle belt and a host of elegant accessories, including Anita Ko studs, a gold Love bangle and tank watch by Cartier, and a diamond pinky ring from Lorraine Schwartz.

The mom of two has become a sartorial inspiration for many people around the world, and her latest look is further proof. Most recently, Markle enjoyed a sweet coordinating moment with her husband, wearing a sleeveless turtleneck and matching tube skirt from Bleusalt while Harry wore a classic white button-down and slacks. She also takes a tip from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, for many of her outfits, including the off-the-shoulder Khaite bodysuit she wore to last year’s Invictus Games and the navy dress and Stephen Jones Millinery hat combo for an appearance at Trooping the Colour. Apart from her affinity for clean silhouettes and inviting colors, Markle often dabbles in her pre-royal style with bolder pieces. For the 2023 Women of Vision Awards in May, she effortlessly rocked a gold strapless cutout dress by Johanna Ortiz, and she wore a pastel Staud shorts suit to an LA Lakers game in April.

Wearing Meghan Markle’s Travel Pants and Flats Would Make Any Flight Better

    [ad_1]

Meghan Markle is on the move—to Europe for the Invictus Games, specifically—and has the perfect travel outfit for the 10.5-hour flight. As someone who admittedly struggles with long-flight outfit planning, I appreciate all the help I can get (even if Meghan Markle didn’t intentionally mean to help me).

While everything about Markle’s outfit for the trip was spot-on, it was her pants and shoes that really caught my eye. Markle opted for loose wide-leg pants for the flight, which I find to be a genius move. The loose trousers provide comfort for the lengthy flight, but also polish (which they have far more of than leggings or sweatpants). For her shoes, she opted for a pair of chic flat mules, and I’ll tell you why that was also a smart move. Obviously flats are key on travel days, and the backless pair may not be quite as secure as, say, a pair of sneakers, but the benefit you get is not having your shoes rubbing the back of your ankle raw as you walk through a massive airport.

To round out her outfit, Markle wore a V-neck sweater, oversized sunglasses, a designer tote bag, and straw hat. Scroll on to shop the look, as well as some of my favorite wide-leg pants and flats for flights.

Meghan Markle couldn’t resist a craving for the popular California-founded burger chain, In-N-Out.

Last week, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted behind the wheel of her own car as she made her way through the fast-food chain restaurant’s drive-through to purchase food with a friend. Markle, 42, was photographed donning sunglasses and smiling as she and her pal chatted in her black Range Rover while waiting for In-N-Out’s famous burgers.

The outing came as Markle’s hubby, Prince Harry, was out of town for the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.

In a previous interview with Variety, the couple revealed that In-N-Out is a favourite of Harry’s, and Markle shared that they like to “surprise” the staff at the location close to their house.

“There’s one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods. It’s really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them,” she told the outlet last year.

“They know our order,” she added before Harry revealed his go-to is the double double with fries and a coke, while Markle prefers to order a cheeseburger and fries with a side of jalapeños.

The spotting — at the In-N-Out location close to Markle and Price Harry’s $14.6 million Montecito home — marked the second time in less than a week that the actress was seen driving on her own. A few days prior, she was seen driving around Montecito, marking the first time Markle was spotted behind the wheel in over three years. The last time she was seen driving herself was in January 2020 when she made her way to Victoria International Airport in Canada to pick up a friend around the time she and Harry announced their decision to step back from their royal duties.

Chris Christie Slams ‘Coward’ Trump For ‘Ridiculous’ Meghan Markle Comments

    [ad_1]

“Look, he says so many ridiculous things,” Christie told CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday.

“I think there is absolutely no interest in either Donald Trump or Meghan Markle debating about anything. And if people really want to have the real issues that are concerning their lives, like inflation, our role around the world, our troubled education system, crime and law and order in our cities debated, we need to have serious candidates on that [debate] stage.”

“And the only thing I think that might draw an audience that even approaches that would be if you were to sit down with the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. They don’t like you much. Would you do that for the ratings?” Hewitt asked Trump.

“Oh, if you want to set it up, let’s set it up. Let’s go do something. I’d love to debate her. I would love it. I disagree so much with what they’re doing,” replied Trump, who claimed the pair treated the late Queen Elizabeth II “with great disrespect.”

The former New Jersey governor shared a clip from his interview with Bash on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Donald Trump wants to debate Meghan Markle but not his opponents? What a joke. I’m sure they’d have a great debate on Spotify. Keep me on the stage for when the coward finally shows up to debate me.”

  • Donald Trump Won’t Show Up to Debate His Fellow Republicans, But Meghan Markle? Just Name the Time and Place

Donald Trump Won’t Show Up to Debate His Fellow Republicans, But Meghan Markle? Just Name the Time and Place

    [ad_1]

Donald Trump didn’t show up to the first Republican debate last month and has said he won’t participate in any future ones, robbing voters of the chance to see how he would answer substantive questions from moderators and handle confrontation from fellow candidates for the GOP nomination. But what about a debate with Meghan Markle, the former Suits actor who married Prince Harry in 2018? The Meghan Markle who does not now and has not ever held public office, and who we can say with near-absolute certainty will not be jumping into the GOP primary in this or any other lifetime? Well, that’s someone Trump would show up to a debate stage for. Happily, in fact!

In an interview that aired Wednesday, conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump if he would debate Meghan and Prince Harry, who “don’t like you much,” for the ratings. Naturally, the ex-president’s first instinct was to scoff at the idea that the pair doesn’t like him—even though they clearly don’t—and then suggest that the late Queen of England was a huge fan of his, which he’s done before. “I don’t know that they don’t like me,” Trump told Hewitt. “I said that I don’t think they are very appropriate, what they’re saying, what they’re doing, and I didn’t like the way she dealt with the queen. I became very friendly with the queen. She was an incredible woman. At 95, she was so sharp. She was 100%. When you watch Biden, you say, this is a different planet. But they treated her with great disrespect, and I didn’t like it. And I didn’t like the idea that they were getting US security when they came over here. No, I think it’s not a good situation going on with the two of them, but I didn’t know that they don’t like me.”

Reminded of the actual question, i.e. would he debate the couple, Trump responded, “Oh, if you want to set it up, let’s set it up. Let’s go do something. I’ll, I’d love to debate her. I would love it. I disagree so much with what they’re doing.”

    X content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

A Trump vs. Markle debate, is, of course, about as likely to occur as “Infrastructure Week.” But the ex-president is a carnival barker at heart and could obviously not pass up the opportunity to pretend that, yeah, maybe this will actually happen. Of course, it’s not hard to see why Trump would rather engage with this absurd scenario than actually show up on the GOP debate stage, where he would no doubt be asked about the many criminal charges against him and likely incriminate himself. (Here we have to tell you that Trump has pleaded not guilty to everything.)

As for whether the former guy will participate in the general election debates*, that is not clear at this time. In 2020, he demanded that Joe Biden be tested for performance-enhancing drugs before he would agree to show up to the first debate, and while that precondition was obviously not met, Trump nevertheless made an appearance anyway (possibly in an effort to give people COVID). Then he skipped the next one in favor of a town hall with Savannah Guthrie, during which he said QAnon had made some good points that he “strongly” agreed with. So, truly, who knows.

*Assuming he wins the nomination, which, against all odds, he seems poised to do.

  • ‘I didn’t have that support’: Did Prince Harry just diss the Royal Family in his new docu-series Heart of Invictus?

‘I didn’t have that support’: Did Prince Harry just diss the Royal Family in his new docu-series Heart of Invictus?

    [ad_1]

Prince Harry might have just taken a sly dig at the Royal Family. In his new docu-series Heart of Invictus, he admitted that he had trauma after he returned from the Afghanistan tour in 2012. For the unversed, Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana to an accident in 1997 when he was just a child, and recently the Duke of Sussex revealed he had deep hidden trauma about her passing, but it came to the surface after he returned.

Prince Harry had no one to help him after his tour to Afghanistan

In his recently released Netflix docuseries Heart Of Invictus, Prince Harry discussed his mental health issues upon returning from his 2012 Afghanistan tour. The series follows a cohort of service members on their journey to the Paralympic-style sports event that Harry established in 2014. After acknowledging his feelings of anger following his return from his tour, Prince Harry revealed that he lacked the necessary support system, connections, and professional guidance to recognize the true nature of his emotions.

He said, he “didn’t have that support structure, that network, or that expert advice to identify actually what was going on.” Reportedly, his return from Afghanistan acted as a catalyst, rekindling unresolved trauma stemming from the tragic passing of his mom, Princess Diana all the way back in 1997. It was only when he found himself in a vulnerable state, “lying on the floor in the fetal position,” that he began to think about getting therapy.

What exactly triggered Prince Harry’s trauma?

In what can be taken as a dig to the Royal Family, Harry remarked, “Look, I can only speak for my personal experience, my tour of Afghanistan in 2012 flying Apaches, somewhere after that there was an unraveling and the trigger for me was actually returning from Afghanistan.” The 38-year-old revealed his biggest struggle was that “no-one around” him could help him, as he had no “support structure that network or that expert advice to identify what was actually going on” with him at that point.

Meanwhile, he was quick to admit that he had suppressed his feelings about his mother’s passing, and it came out way later when his mental health was at its worst.

  • Meghan Markle Will Be Joining Prince Harry in Germany for the Invictus Games

Meghan Markle Will Be Joining Prince Harry in Germany for the Invictus Games

    [ad_1]

Last year, Meghan Markle played a game of ping pong with Prince Harry in a video promoting the 2023 Invictus Games in Dßsseldorf. Now, a spokesperson for the couple has confirmed that the duchess will be joining her husband in the German city for the games, which begin on September 9 and run through September 16.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to attend the Invictus Games 2023 in Düsseldorf,” a statement read, per People. “The Duke will be in attendance throughout the entirety of the games and will be joined by the Duchess shortly after the games begin.”

Before the games begin, Prince Harry will be attending the WellChild Awards in the UK on September 7. According to the charity, which supports children with disabilities and their charities, Harry will be on hand to give awards to this year’s winners. WellChild has counted Harry as their patron since 2007. Though Meghan has joined the duke at the annual awards ceremony in the past, Page Six reports that she will miss this year’s event due to previous commitments with the couple’s children Archie and Lilibet.

This year’s Invictus Games will be the sixth iteration of the event, following 2022’s games in The Hague. During the commencement event, Meghan introduced her husband before he gave a speech that touched on his experiences as a father and the resilience of the competitors from Ukraine, just a few months after the country was invaded by Russia.

In an interview at the time, Prince Harry told People about how his experience in the military inspired him to create the games in 2014. “When I was in the Army, I promised myself I would be out before having a wife and kids, because I couldn’t imagine the heartache of being apart for so long during deployment, the risk of possibly getting injured, and the reality that my family’s lives could be changed forever if that happened,” he said. “Every member of the Invictus community has experienced varying degrees of these things. I have tremendous respect for what they and their families sacrifice in the name of service.”

  • Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress Nods to Hollywood and American Royalty

Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress Nods to Hollywood and American Royalty

    [ad_1]

“[She] felt like she was bringing an element of each of those countries down the aisle with her. So that her new role—and that bridge to the new role—was captured in what she was wearing,” Waight Keller says. “For both of us, we felt it was a really beautiful signature, and I think even Prince Harry was just thrilled at the idea that we really tried to capture something for everyone in that service.”

To symbolize love and charity, crops of wheat were intricately blended into the floral motif at the front of the veil, which was secured with Queen Mary’s diamond and platinum bandeau tiara. The Givenchy atelier workers in Paris sewed for hundreds of hours and washed their hands every 30 minutes to ensure that the threads and tulle remained immaculate.

The groom’s father, a staunch supporter of British hand-craftsmanship and artisan traditions, was also moved by the gesture. “King Charles was just in awe of the dress and the [veil] embroidery, and he asked me about it while we were waiting inside the nave,” Waight Keller says. “He was really very interested, actually, in all the different motifs and the floral representations.”

Celebrating Prince Harry With “Something Blue”

The duchess put a creative twist on her serendipitous “something blue.” After dismissing “a garter or something like that,” Waight Keller explains, Markle snipped a piece of fabric from the dress she wore on her first date with Prince Harry.

“We basically sewed it into the hem of the wedding dress, so she was the only one that knew that it was there. It was a little blue gingham check,” Waight Keller says, dropping a significant clue about the Sussexes’ origin story—and for social media sleuths to scour the Wayback Machine. “It was the perfect personal memento that was secretly hidden inside the dress.”

    Coordinating With the Bridesmaid Dresses

The six bridesmaids (or flower girls), including Prince William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, coordinated with Markle in crisp white Givenchy haute couture. “She said, ‘I don’t want them to feel trussed up or like they’re in some old-fashioned dress,’” Waight Keller explains. “So these were just really modern and clean, but also something that they could move around in and felt like they were real children’s clothes.”

Evoking “very simple little T-shirt shapes,” in look and comfort, Waight Keller animated the ivory silk radzimir frocks with lively details: empire waistlines, short puff sleeves, tiny pleats, and hand-finished double silk ribbon bows at the back. “They had the same principles of modernity that the wedding gown had,” says Waight Keller, who also added pockets. “It was an important link between the two.”

  • The Bride Wore Orange Blossom: A History of Wedding Day Scents

The Bride Wore Orange Blossom: A History of Wedding Day Scents

    [ad_1]

When Queen Victoria married her beloved Prince Albert in 1840, she cast aside the traditions of earlier noble-born brides—and unwittingly changed the course of wedding history. For one thing, she proposed. In lieu of a velvet jewel-toned look, she chose a white dress (a trend that she is credited with starting). As for her hair, she wore a humble wreath of orange blossoms, rather than the requisite diamond-encrusted tiara. The sweet white flower is said to symbolize love and virtue, a blessing in full bloom.

Since that high-profile moment, orange blossom has remained a staple of royal nuptials in a more lasting form: perfume. For her 1981 wedding to the then Prince Charles, broadcast to a global audience of 750 million, Diana Spencer ascended the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral wearing Houbigant Quelques Fleurs eau de parfum, with orange blossom and bergamot alongside jasmine and rose. A generation later, Meghan Markle wed Diana’s son Prince Harry in a custom Floris scent, its orange blossom notes inspired by the line’s Bergamotto di Positano.

“The tradition of perfuming weddings is almost as old as weddings themselves,” says Amandine Clerc-Marie, a French perfumer whose work has been bottled up by Chloé, YSL, Mugler, and Burberry. “In ancient China, women wore a crown of fragrant orange blossoms at their wedding to ensure their fertility, and the tradition has spread to the West. That’s why orange blossom is still such a popular note for weddings.”

Geography and custom have also shaped the occasion’s olfactory palette. In the ancient Middle East, dousing oneself with agarwood (also known as oud) was a familiar pre-wedding ritual, as documented in the Old Testament’s Psalm 45:8. Incense-fumed ceremonies and flower necklaces have carried symbolic associations in certain Eastern cultures. Attending to the matrimonial scentscape is a practice that has endured to present day, when choosing a perfume has become as weighty a decision as designing the bridal bouquet.

“Over the last couple of years with social media, it has made it feel like wedding scents all of the sudden were a thing,” says Jennifer Capuano, vice president of fragrance at Macy’s. Everyone is in search of a signature fragrance, and brides are paying special attention. When Sofia Richie Grainge’s South of France wedding took TikTok by storm this past spring, the public clamored to find out what she wore—and not just her lace-embroidered Chanel haute couture dress. The fragrance of the day was reported to be a blend of two Jo Malone scents: Peony Blush and English Pear & Freesia.

“Brides put so much effort into finding a dress that you likely will only wear once,” says Clerc-Marie. “Spending some time to find the right fragrance can be equally as important.” Her latest creation—Burberry Goddess, a vanilla-and-lavender confection that launched earlier this month—is a worthy bridal contender. Practically speaking, she adds, a scent “carries with it the infinite potential to wear it repeatedly, instantly transporting you back to that special day.”

Yvan Jacqueline, president of the Americas for Parfums de Marly, a French perfume maison, echoes the point. “If there is one day you remember all your life, and you want to remember all your life, it is your wedding day,” he says. The brand’s most recent launch, Valaya, which blends lily of the valley with orange blossom and vetiver, was formulated with brides in mind.

In neurobiological terms, the olfactory sense is the one most closely connected to the amygdala and hippocampus, two parts of the brain responsible for emotion and memory. If you’ve ever been brought to your knees by the middle school montage that plays out with one whiff of Bath & Body Works Sweet Pea perfume, you’ve experienced this phenomenon. Scent offers a portal back in time, so when you select a fragrance for a special occasion, you link the two forevermore.

The wedding industry gets more opulent with every passing day, with brides routinely pulling four distinct white looks and renting out whole castles in Italy. There are shoes and veils and jewelry to think about, but if the history of wedding day fragrance teaches us anything, it is that nothing lives on quite like perfume.

Thankfully, brides are spoiled for choice, between niche fragrance brands and established houses, not to mention high-end options for a custom scent. Popular notes like orange blossom, rose, tuberose, and vanilla invariably do well, but choosing a perfume is a deeply intimate process. “Like a wedding dress, you need to try it on, see how it sits on your skin, how it moves with you,” says Clerc-Marie of the way scent reacts with the wearer. “Ask yourself, ‘Does it fit?’”

Finding a fragrance that mixes with your chemistry, suits your personality, and evokes something sentimental—such as the royal obsession with orange blossom—can take a good deal of trial and error. That said, some creations never go out of style. “One of the legacy go-to’s for wedding scents is definitely Chanel No. 5,” says Capuano. “It’s often a scent many remember a mother or grandmother wearing, and now they wear it because of the memories and nostalgia that it evokes.”

Once a selection is made, it can be worth turning up the volume. “You want people to be offended by how strong you smell,” jokes David Moltz, the perfumer behind the Brooklyn-based fragrance studio D.S. & Durga. He recommends the brand’s Rose Atlantic (with notes of rose and sea salt) and Jazmín Yucatan (a humid blend of jasmine and vetiver) as bridal scents. “You want it to be unique and specific, like you are not just smelling it everywhere,” adds cofounder Kavi Moltz—“especially if the whole point is to be reminded of that day.” On the eve of their own wedding, David presented Kavi with three custom fragrances in a series of ornate vintage vessels: one unique scent for each day of their traditional Indian ceremony. Naturally, the couple went on to launch his-and-her scents inspired by these sentimental creations: D.S. for David, with notes like sandalwood, saffron, and rose; Durga for Kavi, the requisite orange blossom mingling with tuberose and orris butter. “It should be fancy,” she continues. “It’s your fucking wedding.”

The goal is a singular sensation. Then again, some nuptials have the kind of sparkle that transforms a wedding day fragrance into a pop-culture commodity. For her 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco, Grace Kelly commissioned a new scent from perfumer James Henry Creed— a veritable bouquet of florals, including white tuberose, violet, and rose, grounded in powdery iris and sandalwood. Called Fleurissimo, it instantly evokes midcentury glamour, and it smells exactly as you imagine a movie star turned princess would. A fragrance worthy of a fairy tale.
