Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ New Show Just Dropped A Raunchy Kate Middleton Joke

The Amazon Prime series about espionage was far from reverent toward the royal establishment during a joke about the Duchess of Cambridge, who has long been a foil for Chopra Jonas’ dear friend, Meghan Markle.

The quip came while the partner (played by Richard Madden) of Chopra Jonas’ character tried to convince a crime boss (played by Sen Monro) to arrange a deal with top brass at the military.

Startled by the spy’s huge ask, the mobster replies, “The chief of armed forces? You might as well have asked me how to get between the legs of the Duchess of Cambridge.”

Chopra Jonas’ close relationship with Markle is no secret.

The Bollywood star and the Duchess of Sussex first met at the 2016 Elle Women in Television dinner and stayed in touch. Two years later, Chopra Jonas attended Markle’s lavish royal wedding to Prince Harry.

Chopra Jonas praised her pal in an essay celebrating her spot on the Time 100 list in 2018, writing, “More than anything else, Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to. People the world can be inspired by. Meghan, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry, will be a princess for the people.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently embroiled in their own drama after an incident with New York paparazzi last week. A spokesperson for the couple said they were in a “near catastrophic” car accident after being chased by photographers while riding in a taxi.

Their taxi driver’s account seemed to downplay any danger. “I don’t think I would call it a chase,” driver Sukhcharn Singh told The Washington Post. “I never felt like I was in danger. It wasn’t like a car chase in a movie. They were quiet and seemed scared but it’s New York — it’s safe.”

Did Prince William and Kate Middleton oppose King Charles III’s ‘concessions’ to Harry and Meghan? Find out

    [ad_1]

The British Royal family rift has been widening with each passing day and the reports on relationships between the family members getting strained more have been doing rounds over the past few months. The appearance of Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles III at his father’s coronation ceremony also created quite a stir on social media. It is also evident that the King’s elder son Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton don’t have a great equation with Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Did William-Kate oppose King Charles III’s concessions to Harry-Meghan?

According to the latest reports published by The Daily Beast, Prince William has been feeling ‘completely betrayed’ by his brother Prince Harry, owing to the explosive revelations and allegations he has made about the Royal Family over the last few months. The reports also suggest that William and his wife Kate Middleton are strictly opposing King Charles III’s frequent concessions to Harry and Meghan Markle. The Monarch, on the other hand, has been taking his elder son and daughter-in-law’s opinions with ample importance.

Demonstrators Show Support For Meghan Markle Amid King Charles’ Coronation

    [ad_1]

Meghan Markle may not have attended King Charles’ coronation in London this weekend, but she nonetheless received love from her fans on the historic day.

On Saturday, some people gathered in Trafalgar Square to show support for the Duchess of Sussex, who did not travel to the U.K. for the king’s ceremony.

Photos and videos of the crowds showed signs featuring Meghan’s face alongside messages such as “the people’s princess.”

Others in Trafalgar held up posters reading “not my king” as they protested the monarchy and the coronation, which was held at nearby Westminster Abbey.

One person, who carried a sign calling Meghan the “princess of our hearts,” told a student reporter from the University of Northampton that she was there to support the duchess.

“I’m here to give Meghan a piece of and a place in the coronation,” said the demonstrator, identified only as Elena. “I think she deserves to be here in some spirit.”

The demonstrator went on to criticize “the money spent on the coronation” amid the country’s “cost of living crisis.”

“I’m very, very cross right now, to be honest,” she said.

Last month, Buckingham Palace and a spokesperson for Archewell, the organization founded by the Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry, released statements announcing Meghan’s decision to not attend the coronation. The big day fell on the 4th birthday of Prince Archie, Harry and Meghan’s son.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” the palace said at the time.

Harry, meanwhile, attended the royal event, though he didn’t have a formal role in the ceremony. He left Los Angeles for the U.K. on Friday, and he left to go back home shortly after the coronation’s conclusion.

Earlier in the year, many had speculated about whether Harry and Meghan would attend. The couple had announced their decision to step back as senior working members of the royal family in 2020. They have also spoken out about the racist coverage that Meghan has endured from the British press and about “unconscious bias” within the royal family. The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that she had suicidal thoughts during her time as a working royal.

On Saturday, some Twitter users joined in to show their support for Meghan and to acknowledge her turbulent experience as a working royal.

Prince Harry Has Left the Building…And King Charles’s Coronation

    [ad_1]

He did hint at his past as a senior royal with the emblem around his neck telegraphing his status as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, an award from the late Queen Elizabeth II for his personal service to the sovereign. On his medal bar, he wore his medals from the Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilees, along with the medal he received for his tour of service in Afghanistan. But didn’t wear any of the ceremonial garb that he might have been entitled to had he not left his royal role. (Though you should note that this did not stop Prince Andrew, who wore the full regalia and blue velvet robe representing the Order of the Garter, despite his “retirement” in Fall 2019.)

He exited the Abbey with Eugenie and Jack, and got into the backseat of a waiting car. His trip to the UK was reportedly supposed to be short, and a return trip to Los Angeles is expected to come soon. Harry traveled to his home country without his wife Meghan Markle, and his two children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. Archie is celebrating his fourth birthday on Saturday, and a friend of the couple told People that Meghan had planned a “low-key party at home” with her mother Doria Ragland.  It is thought that Harry spend last night at Frogmore Cottage, the home that he and Meghan received as a gift from the late queen. They were recently asked to vacate it at the direction of the king.

Saturday’s coronation, the first in 70 years, will enter the history books, where the story of Harry, the prodigal prince who started a new life in Los Angeles, will become one important footnote. Someday—maybe soon, maybe years from now—we may learn more about the conversations that led Harry to agree to make an appearance in the Abbey, but until then, the day looks like an unsteady detente in a still-warring royal family.

This $65 H&M Dress Is a Dead Ringer for Meghan Markle’s Sold-Out Version

    [ad_1]

Whether you’re in the public eye or not, there’s something to be said for having a recognizable signature style. Whether your style is broadly defined as classic, sporty, or bohemian, or super specific combinations like ankle-length dresses with boots or high-waist jeans with boxy tees, there’s a lot of value in knowing what makes you look and feel your best.

Long before she was one of the most recognizable faces around the world, Meghan Markle honed her personal style, focusing on modern interpretations of traditional silhouettes. And, while her wardrobe ranges from casual to custom, there is a particular style that stands out as quintessentially Meg: the trench coat dress.

The duchess has worn several trench-inspired dresses, but the public first took notice of them when she stepped out in a sleeveless midi-length design by House of Nonie in 2018. In subsequent years, Markle has been photographed wearing this style of dress from brands as accessible as Banana Republic to designer labels like Wales Bonner, which she chose to wear for baby Archie’s debut.

While Banana Republic’s version is currently sold out, this classic design can be found at an array of retailers and price points. As springtime and sunshine call for shorter hemlines and lightweight fabrics, we’re excited to step into H&M’s linen version of the sleeveless belted style. But, if that’s not the right fit, there are plenty of affordable trench-inspired dresses to try on at Zara, Mango, and even Uniqlo, not to mention a few pricer designer versions.

Keep scrolling for 10 of our favorite Markle-inspired trench coat dresses, and prepare to suit up in style this season.

  • King Charles makes an appearance for the first time after Prince Harry and Meghan’s Coronation news

King Charles makes an appearance for the first time after Prince Harry and Meghan’s Coronation news

    [ad_1]

King Charles has been spotted in public for the first time since it was revealed that Prince Harry would attend the King’s coronation alone and Meghan Markle would stay with their children. The King was seen attending the 200th Sovereign’s Parade at Sandhurst Military Academy, which took place in Surrey on Friday morning. He also wore full military attire to celebrate the completion of the military cadet’s 44-week-long training.

A spokesperson of the Palace has announced that “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.”The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.” Archie’s fourth birthday is on the same day as the King’s coronation. Harry will be missing out on the celebration since he is set to attend his father’s coronation.

There were endless rumors about if Harry and Meghan will be present on this historic day. Everything seemed dicey because of the high tension between Harry and his family after he revealed numerous private details about the Royal family and his dynamic with the members in his memoir ‘Spare.’

Experts reveal King Charles’s reaction to the news

Christopher Andersen, the author of the book The King: The Life of Charles III, has predicted that attending the coronation will be a very uncomfortable, highly awkward situation for Harry. The Sun reported that King Charles is delighted to know that his son will be present for his coronation, “The King is happy that Harry, his son, who he calls his ‘darling boy,’ will be at the Abbey. He wanted him there. It is sad; he is very disappointed that he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren but understands the situation.”

Royal sources also revealed that Meghan was never likely to attend the coronation. The source has also revealed that Meghan felt like she was put in “an impossible position.” Reportedly both of Harry and Meghan’s children Archie and Lilibet were excluded from the ceremony, and this upset Meghan. The source revealed, “The mood from California was that she felt increasingly put in an impossible position, and there’s a fair sense of relief that the situation is resolved after so much speculation and uncertainty.”

  • Prince Harry will attend father’s coronation, Meghan won’t

Prince Harry will attend father’s coronation, Meghan won’t

    [ad_1]

LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry will attend his father’s coronation, Buckingham Palace said Wednesday, ending months of speculation about whether the prince would be welcome after leveling charges of racism and media manipulation at the royal family.

His wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will remain at the couple’s home in Southern California with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the palace said. A nearly identical statement from the Sussex’s representatives confirmed the news.

The May 6 date of the coronation at Westminster Abbey coincides with their son’s birthday.

While the announcement should silence the “will he or won’t he” debate in the British media, it won’t end the royal soap opera swirling around Harry and Meghan as King Charles III prepares for his coronation.

When the prince attended the funerals of his grandfather, Prince Philip, and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, commentators discussed everything from whether Harry would be allowed to wear his military uniform to exactly where he was seated. And there is always the question of whether he will meet face-to-face with his father and older brother, Prince William.

That intrigue will only be heightened after Harry and Meghan stoked their critique of the royal family in a six-part Netflix series about their decision to step back from royal duties three years ago, which was followed by Harry’s decision to reveal family secrets in his bestselling memoir “Spare.”

Harry and Meghan, who is biracial, have alleged she faced racist attitudes from both the palace and the U.K. press. The treatment contributed to their decision to leave the country.

The revelations in “Spare,″ including details of private conversations with his father and brother, Prince William, fanned tensions between Harry and his family that became public when he and his wife moved to North America in 2020.

The book also included allegations that members of the royal family regularly feed the press unflattering information about other members of the House of Windsor in exchange for positive coverage of themselves.

The prince singled out Camilla, the queen consort, accusing her of leaking private conversations to the media as she sought to rehabilitate her image after marrying Charles. Camilla was once reviled for her long-term affair with Charles, which contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to the late Prince Diana, Harry and William’s mother.

The acrimony between Harry and his family once again spilled into public view last month when the Sussexes said that they had been asked to vacate their home in Britain.

Frogmore Cottage, a royal residence on the grounds of Windsor Castle west of London, was the couple’s main residence before they gave up royal duties and moved to Montecito, a wealthy enclave in Southern California.

Meghan Markle Wins Legal Battle Against Half-Sister Samantha Markle As Judge Dismisses Case

    [ad_1]

    By Becca Longmire.

It’s another legal win for Meghan Markle.

It was revealed this week that her half-sister Samantha Markle’s defamation case against her had officially been dismissed by a U.S. court, Hello! reported.

Samantha, who is the daughter of Thomas Markle, Meghan’s dad, claimed the Duchess of Sussex had spread “demonstrably false and malicious lies” to a “worldwide audience” during her and Prince Harry’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview that aired in March 2021.

PA news agency had access to court documents, confirming a Florida judge had dismissed the case due to Samantha’s opinion not being “capable of being proved false.”

The docs claimed Samantha, who has appeared on numerous talk shows to criticize her half-sister, was simply voicing “an opinion about her childhood and her relationship” with Meghan.

U.S. District Judge, Charlene Edwards Honeywell, wrote: “As a reasonable listener would understand it, defendant merely expresses an opinion about her childhood and her relationship with her half-siblings.

“Thus, the court finds that defendant’s statement is not objectively verifiable or subject to empirical proof…. plaintiff cannot plausibly disprove defendant’s opinion of her own childhood.”

Amid Meghan’s latest legal win, Harry made a surprise appearance in London; his first trip to the U.K. since his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September and the release of his tell-all memoir, Spare.

Harry headed home to make an appearance at the High Court amid the lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Ltd; publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Make Multiple Requests Before Agreeing To Attend King Charles’ Coronation: Sources

    By Becca Longmire.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly have a few problems with attending King Charles III upcoming coronation on May 6.

The pair’s spokesperson confirmed earlier this month that they’d received an invite to the royal event.

However, they allegedly have a bit of an issue with the fact their children Archie, who turns 4 on the day of the coronation, and Lilibet, 1, weren’t included.

The Times reported Archie and Lilibet have “not yet been invited,” Yahoo! News claimed.

It’s thought Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, who turns 5 next month, who are all older than the Sussex’s children, will be involved.

Another concern is that Harry and Meghan reportedly want Archie to get a birthday shout-out at some point in the day, even if it’s just a quick mention.

A source told OK! Magazine: “Archie’s birthday falls on May 6th, coronation day and the Sussexes want the family to recognize that.

“The Sussexes have asked for some kind of celebration or acknowledgement to be factored into the day’s plans to ensure that his fourth birthday won’t get lost during the momentous day.”

As well as reportedly asking to stay at Frogmore Cottage with Princess Eugenie, a source also said the Sussexes wanted a spot on the balcony.

“This could prove a real sticking point because the Palace have narrowed it down to only working members of the royal family on the balcony,” the source said. “Harry and Meghan are keen that they too should be a part of that special family moment.”

As well as all the above, security is an issue.

“There is still an ongoing legal case between the Sussexes and the Home Office over their security. The couple wants more security while they are in the U.K. and this needs to be ironed out before they attend the coronation,” the source said.

ET Canada has contacted Harry and Meghan’s rep for comment.

‘The Crown’: All Hail First Look of Prince William and Kate Middleton in Season 6

    [ad_1]

The sixth and final season of The Crown is currently underway, and two of its most important subjects have finally been revealed. New photos of Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, who play college-aged versions of Prince William and Kate Middleton, respectively, have surfaced as they film what appears to be the royal couple’s first meeting.

McVey and Bellamy, both relative newcomers, were spotted filming in St Andrews, Scotland, the spot where William and Kate met in 2001 while studying at the University of St Andrews, on March 17. In the photos, McVey’s William inquisitively looks up at Kate as she passes by, hinting that this could be their first moment running into one another.

“When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her, and then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while,” William said during the couple’s 2010 engagement interview with ITV News. “That was a good sort of foundation. I do genuinely believe now that being friends with [each other] is a massive advantage.”

Years before their 2011 wedding at London’s Westminster Abbey, which was watched by some 72 million people, William and Kate “took a break” following graduation. “I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person” Kate said during the same interview. “You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized—I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger—and I really valued that time for me, as well.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s courtship is one of several subjects that will be explored in the final installment of  Netflix’s Emmy-winning series on the heels of the splashy fifth season. Most notably, new episodes will chronicle Diana’s tragic 1997 deathRufus Kampa has been cast as a slightly more junior version of William, who was just 15 years old when his mother died in a car accident. Other storylines may include 9/11; the queen’s Golden Jubilee, celebrating her 50 years on the throne; and the deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mum in 2002.

Returning royal family cast members include Imelda Staunton as Queen ElizabethJonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

The Crown’s final season will be released amidst turmoil within the monarchy, including the release of Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare and the death of Queen Elizabeth II. When the monarch died, the series paused production in honor of her. Series creator Peter Morgan also issued this statement about his show’s real-life inspiration: “The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect.”

Here’s How King Charles Invited Harry And Meghan To The Coronation

    [ad_1]

With less than two months to “Spare” (sorry), King Charles has officially invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to his May 6 coronation, The Sunday Times revealed over the weekend.

The outlet said on Sunday that a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed that the couple “recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”

“An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time,” the representative added.

HuffPost did not immediately hear back from Archewell or Buckingham Palace in requests for additional comment.

The news comes after a busy week of royal news for Charles, Harry and Meghan.

King Charles (left) has officially invited Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to his May 6 coronation.

On Wednesday, the Sussexes confirmed in a statement to HuffPost that they’d “been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” which is their home in the U.K.

The Sun ― which exclusively revealed the news ― said the royal couple was asked by Buckingham Palace and Charles to leave one day after the publication of Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”

The outlet also reported that the two were being asked to leave the property to make way for the king’s disgraced brother, Prince Andrew.

Just a few days later, Harry participated in a livestreamed sit-down interview with physician and author Dr. Gabor Maté in California.

The two broached a wide array of topics during the talk, in which the royal said that he always felt “slightly different to the rest of my family.”

“I felt strange being in this container,” Harry explained. “I know that my mum felt the same. And so it makes sense to me. I felt as though my body was in there, but my head was out. And then sometimes it was vice versa.”

Rebel Wilson On First Meeting Meghan Markle: ‘She Wasn’t As Naturally Warm’

    By Miguel A. Melendez‍ , ETOnline.com.

Rebel Wilson is opening up about meeting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for the first time, and it wasn’t exactly great.

The “Pitch Perfect” star recalled the experience during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”, where they had been talking about the royal family during a commercial break and briefly continued on the subject when they got back from break. Wilson said when she met the couple in Santa Barbara, Markle was a bit standoffish while Harry, on the other hand, was “lovely.”

“Meghan was not as cool. She wasn’t as naturally warm,” said Wilson, who revealed they share a mutual friend, a polo player.

That being said, the actress conceded that the not-so-warm encounter with Markle may have had a lot to do with her mother, Sue Bownds, being a bit intrusive and asking “slightly rude” questions like, “Where are your kids?”

“And I’m like, ‘Mom, don’t ask her that,” Wilson said. “Maybe that’s why she was like, ‘Who are these annoying convicts from Australia?”

As for Harry, Wilson said he “could not have been nicer.”

The royal revelation came on the same week Wilson revealed she was banned from Disneyland after a huge no-no at the theme park.

“I did get banned from Disneyland for 30 days because I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland,” Wilson shared on “The Daily Show” with a laugh, and without elaborating on what she meant by “secret bathroom.”

“I got officially banned for 30 days. They called me up and said, ‘Rebel what 30 days did you not want to come to Disneyland because you’re away filming a movie or something?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, well, June would be fine.’”

  • Sarah Ferguson Has “No Judgment” Towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Sarah Ferguson Has “No Judgment” Towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

    [ad_1]

As someone who has felt judged her whole life, Sarah Ferguson said she wouldn’t dream of criticizing another person’s choices.

The Duchess of York revealed that she has “no judgment” towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for deciding to step down as senior royals and forge their own path for their family in California. The royal told People in an interview published Thursday, “I don’t believe that any single person has the right to judge another person. I’m not in a position myself to make any judgments. I have been judged all my life, and I have no judgment on the Sussexes.” And she added that, most importantly, “I think that [Princess] Diana would be incredibly proud of her grandchildren. And not just the Sussex grandchildren, but Will’s children.” Harry and Meghan are parents to a 3-year-old son Archie and 1-year-old daughter Lilibet Diana, while Prince William and his wife Princess Kate have three kids of their own, 9-year-old Prince George, 7-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 4-year-old Prince Louis.

This is a sentiment Fergie has expressed in the past. In July 2021, she also told the outlet that the late Princess Diana “would be very proud of her sons and their wives,” adding, “And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that’s what she loved.” She explained that the princess, “adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven. If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, ‘I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen.’ Because each has got her own voice.” The duchess went on to explain that the reason she can say all of this about the late royal with such confidence is because “We were best friends from when she was 14 and I was 15.” She continued, “She taught me so much of public life. She was so brave. We used to have the most incredible time together.” And despite the tabloid speculation that they’d had a falling out prior to Diana’s death in 1997, Ferguson claims, “We promised each other we would always be together—there was never any daylight between us. But everybody wanted that, because we were so strong together. People want to break something so strong.”

These days, the royal is enjoying being a grandmother herself as her daughter Princess Beatrice is mother to a 1-year-old daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, and stepmother to her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi‘s 7-year-old son Wolfie from a previous relationship. Her younger daughter Princess Eugenie welcomed her son August in February 2021 with husband Jack Brooksbank and is currently expecting their second child. Fergie revealed that the children “just follow me around like Pete Pan,” joking, “I’m Super Gran Pan!” She concluded, “Everyone says, ‘Oh, has it changed your life?’ And I go, ‘No, because I live [in the mindset of ] 3- to 6-year-olds.’ So I’ve now got another audience that likes me.”

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Not Suing ‘South Park’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Not Suing ‘South Park’

    [ad_1]

Despite what you may have heard, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can take a joke. Per E! News, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has shut down reports that the pair were planning to sue the classic cartoon comedy South Park after a recent episode satirized the couple.

The episode that sparked rumors of a lawsuit is the second of South Park’s 26th season, titled “Worldwide Privacy Tour.” Airing February 15 on Comedy Central, “Worldwide Privacy Tour” follows a fictional “Prince of Canada” and his wife as they relocated to the fictional South Park, Colorado, after the Queen of Canada’s death. The cartoon Prince of Canada and his wife bear a striking resemblance to Harry and Meghan, with the cartoon prince sporting a red beard and his wife outfitted in a pink dress similar to one Meghan was heavily photographed wearing while attending a Trooping the Colour event in 2018. During the episode the Prince of Canada and his wife hold signs that say “we want our privacy” and “stop looking at us.”

After “Worldwide Privacy Tour” aired, the New York Post alleged that Markle was “upset and overwhelmed” by the episode, as well as “annoyed by South Park but refuses to watch it all.” Writing to Fox News, royal commentator Neil Sean suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may get litigious over the cartoon parody.

“Their legal team are casting an eye over the episode to see what is wrong, and what could be turned into something more sinister,” said Sean. “This appears to be their course of action rather than laughing it off, enjoying the moment and showing the world that they get the joke.”

That assessment, though, seems to be far from the truth. A representative for Prince Harry and Meghan shut down any rumors of a lawsuit Tuesday, in a statement given to E! News. “It’s all frankly nonsense,” said the representative. “Totally baseless, boring reports.”

Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park has been Comedy Central’s tentpole since it premiered in 1997. The animated series has ruffled its fair share of famous feathers in the ensuing decades, including but not limited to those of Kanye West, Tom Cruise, and Barbra Streisand. South Park also begins every episode with a disclaimer saying that all its characters are fictional—even ones clearly based on real people. Given the US’s love of the First Amendment, perhaps it was shrewd for the recent British transplants to let the South Park parody slide.

  • A Brief History of the Trope That Meghan Markle Didn’t Google the Royals Before She Married Harry

A Brief History of the Trope That Meghan Markle Didn’t Google the Royals Before She Married Harry

    [ad_1]

In 2014, Meghan Markle started a blog called The Tig, where she posted regularly about lifestyle topics and current events. Though she shut down the website in April 2017, six months after her relationship went public, the posts were preserved on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine and occasionally tidbits will recirculate. On Wednesday, the Daily Mail brought back a 2014 entry she published referencing Prince William’s 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton, citing it as evidence that Meghan couldn’t have been telling the truth when she said she didn’t know much about the royals before she met Prince Harry.

In the introduction to a blog entry where she interviewed Princess Alia Al Senussi, a descendent of Libyan royalty who works in the art world, Meghan mentioned that as a child she loved tough princesses like She-Ra from the ’80s cartoon, She-Ra: Princess of Power. She also mentioned that the idea of a “princess” still exerts power on adults too. “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy,” she wrote. “Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

You might think that calling her future sister-in-law “Princess Kate” might be a sign that Meghan didn’t actually know too much about royal forms of address. (Until Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, her proper title was either Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, or Princess William of Wales.) But to the Mail, this “suggests that she not only knew exactly who the royals were—but that she’d also formed several very strong opinions about the Monarchy and its many traditions, years before she met her future husband.”

The idea that Meghan held “very strong opinions” about her future husband and his family originates in a statement Meghan made during the March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, when the duchess said that, as an American, she didn’t actually know too much about what joining the family would entail. “I didn’t do any research about what that would mean,” Meghan said. “I didn’t feel any need to, because everything I needed to know he was sharing with me. Everything we thought I needed to know, he was telling me.”

In the Oprah interview, Meghan does mention Google a little later when talking about learning the words to the national anthem and the hymns she would need to know for a church service. “That’s me late at night, googling how…what’s the national…I’ve got to learn this,” she said.

Somehow, within days, this turned into a widespread belief that Meghan didn’t google her husband. The Mail is not alone in returning to this line of attack against Meghan over the years, and last year Tina Brown told Kara Swisher she thought Meghan’s comment was “very disingenuous” and that she couldn’t understand it. “It would seem to me if that’s true, reprehensible, quite honestly,” she added. “Because it’s a serious thing to marry into that family.”

It’s clear that Meghan knew who the most recognizable royals were before she met her husband, as we see from the blog post and footage, uncovered in the 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan, from a spring 2016 video where, when asked to choose between William and Harry, she chooses Harry. The issue here is exactly how much she knew before entering. For the British tabloids, the trope is an opportunity to accuse Meghan of being dishonest in a low-stakes, technical way, but it also reflects a broader disconnect between how British people see the royal family and the way the rest of the world does. For average Americans, the idea that someone might not know the intricacies of royal tradition or the names of extended family members isn’t too outlandish.

Prince Harry, Meghan to be deposed in Samantha Markle’s defamation lawsuit, judge says – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will have to give testimony under oath as part of a defamation case brought by Samantha Markle, the Duchess’s half-sister, a judge has ruled.

The couple filed a motion to block their depositions in the case, in which Samantha is seeking damages over what she claims are “malicious lies” told about her during Harry and Meghan’s 2020 televised Oprah Winfrey interview and the 2020 biography Finding Freedom.

Presiding district court judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell dismissed the motion Tuesday, ruling that Meghan “does not show that unusual circumstances justify the requested stay, or that prejudice or an undue burden will result if the Court does not impose a stay,” Britain’s PA Media news agency reported, as cited by CNN.

“Defendant Markle does not satisfy the high standard required to stay discovery pending the resolution of a dispositive motion.”

A deposition is a formal testimony from a witness or someone involved in a case, given outside of court but under oath.

Samantha, 58, is suing Meghan for US$75,000, claiming defamation in the interview when her younger half-sister said she grew up as “an only child.”

The “false and malicious lies,” the filing says, subjected Samantha “to humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale,” and spread “lies worldwide” about their father, Thomas Markle.

Samantha additionally accuses Meghan of misrepresenting their sibling relationship, alleging that Meghan gave the impression that they were “virtual strangers” growing up and that Samantha had “no relationship whatsoever with her sister Meghan.”

The claim contends that Meghan had “frequent and regular contact with her sister Samantha throughout her childhood,” reports BBC, and that Meghan constructed a “false rags to royalty narrative” that was damaging to both Thomas and Samantha.

She also denies Meghan’s claim that Samantha changed her last name to Markle after news first broke in 2018 that Meghan and Prince Harry were dating.

Peter Ticktin, a lawyer for Samantha, told The Independent on Tuesday in a statement that, “as to whether we will need Harry’s deposition, that decision is yet to be made.”

“Obviously, if the Duchess should want to call him, we would need to take his deposition,” he said. “Otherwise, we will probably still want to inquire as to some issues.”

The outlet reports that a mediator has also been appointed in the case with the hope of resolving the lawsuit without a trial.

The planned depositions come following the Sussexes’ Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, and the publication of Harry’s revealing memoir Spare last month.

In the documentary series, the former Suits actor claimed she hadn’t seen Samantha “for over a decade” and had little to no relationship with her.

“I don’t know your middle name. I don’t know your birthday,” Meghan told the cameras. “You’re telling these people you raised me, and you coined me ‘Princess Pushy?’ I hadn’t had a fallout with her. We didn’t have a closeness to be able to have that. And I wanted a sister!”
