Megan Thee Stallion ‘Mean Girls’ Cameo Reportedly Edited Over Remark Regarding Lindsay Lohan

    [ad_1]

Reports suggest that the ‘Mean Girls’ reboot, now available on streaming platforms, has shortened Megan Thee Stallion‘s cameo.

As you’ll probably know, the comedy, released in January, made some not-so-positive headlines over a line where Meg appears to make a slight dig at Lindsay Lohan.

“Fire Crotch” Line Removed From ‘Mean Girls’ Digital Release

The Daily Mail claims that LiLo, the star of the original version in 2004, also made a surprise cameo in the movie and reportedly received a payment of $500,000.

However, the actress had no knowledge that writers included a joke about her, especially after she agreed to appear in the motion picture.

In the scene in question, Meg appears in a TikTok video as a photo of Cady Heron, formerly played by Lohan, pops up next to her.

“OK, so somebody sent me this look and I was like, ‘Hot girls, we are going back red, Y2K fire crotch is back,’” the ‘Body’ rapper said.

The flick, which eagle-eyed fans have been watching on platforms such as Prime Video, noticed that Meg’s cameo no longer includes the “fire crotch” remark.

Instead, there’s a slight cut that then jumps to Megan saying, “Somebody sent me this look and I’m like, ‘Okay, you know what? Hot girls, we are going back red!’”

A rep for Lohan previously claimed that the ‘Herbie’ star didn’t find it amusing, but rather hurtful, according to Variety.

Socialite Brandon Davis infamously attached the phrase to LiLo, giving her the derogatory nickname during a night out in 2006 with Paris and Nicky Hilton.

Megan Has Not Commented On The Situation

Meg hasn’t addressed the controversy that erupted when Lohan’s team openly shared that the actress was displeased by the scene.

But the decision to take the line out would clearly indicate that producers were looking to rectify the mistake they made by including the joke to begin with.

Outside of her cameo, Meg played a huge part in the film’s success.

She teamed up with Reneé Rapp, who stars as Regina George, for the soundtrack single, “Not My Fault,” which was accompanied by a Mean Girls-inspired music video.

The pair promoted the track in a joint performance on Saturday Night Live, where Megan also got to meet the OG Regina George — Rachel McAdams.

Now that they have revised the digital release, everyone can return to enjoying the film without having to hear the “fire crotch” line that haunted Lohan throughout the ’00s.

Roomies, do you think the line was uncalled for or would you have been okay with it?

  • Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Hiss’ Bows at No. 1 Following Feud With Nicki Minaj

Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Hiss’ Bows at No. 1 Following Feud With Nicki Minaj

    [ad_1]

Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Hiss” is the No. 1 song in the United States this week, marking the Houston rapper’s first solo No. 1.

“Hiss” became the catalyst to a shockingly strange string of events after its arrival on Jan. 26. An online rap war between Megan and Nicki Minaj erupted over one line in the song — “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law” — was widely interpreted as a reference to Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender. In response, Minaj crafted her own diss track called “Big Foot,” directly referencing Megan’s dead mother and her 2020 shooting by Tory Lanez.

Though Megan never directly addressed Minaj, the controversy was enough to get the internet (including Minaj) talking for days. In that same time period, Megan went on Good Morning America and announced she would be going on tour this summer and officially signed an agreement with Warner Music Group, in tandem with Roc Nation, that will allow her to remain an independent artist with the benefits of label services.

“Hiss” launches to No. 1 with 29 million streams, nearly 3 million radio airplay audience impressions and 104,000 downloads sold, according to Luminate.

Meanwhile, Jack Harlow’s former chart-topper, “Lovin on Me,” slips to No. 2 with a strong hold (75.9 million impressions) on radio. Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” is at No. 3 and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” remains at its No. 4 peak. The lower-half of the top 10 singles continue with Tate McRae’s “Greedy” at No. 5; Zach Bryan’s “I Remember Everything,” featuring Kacey Musgraves, at No. 6 and Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills” at No. 7.

New in the Top 10 this week is Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” at No. 8 with 19 million streams and a striking 800,000 million in airplay audience impressions. Boone signed to Warner Records in October 2021 and has launched a handful of singles on the Billboard Hot 100 (“Ghost Town” and “In the Stars”). Still, nothing has compared to the reach of “Beautiful Things,” which debuted on the chart at No. 15 in its first week in January.

21 Savage’s “Redrum” rounds out the top of the list at No. 9 as SZA’s “Snooze,” which won best R&B song at the 66th Grammys, is at No. 10.

  • Worth A Try! Blueface’s Mom Karlissa Saffold Asks Kim Kardashian To Help Her Son Get Out Of Jail

Worth A Try! Blueface’s Mom Karlissa Saffold Asks Kim Kardashian To Help Her Son Get Out Of Jail

    [ad_1]

Blueface‘s mother, Karlissa Saffold, is turning to Kim Kardashian in hopes that she can help her son get out of jail.

As The Shade Room previously reported, the ‘Thotiana’ rapper turned himself in at the LA County Jail on January 12 after violating his probation in a 2021 Las Vegas assault case.

Blueface’s Mom Wants Kim Kardashian To Help Blueface Get Out Of Jail

Blueface’s incarceration has not only set social media ablaze, but also rattled his family, particularly his mom.

While the 26-year-old is not expected to be released until July 2, per FOX LA, his mother took to Instagram Story on Friday (February 2), asking Kim if she can offer a helping hand.

“CAN YOU HELP ME GET MY BOY OUT AND ON HOUSE ARREST,” she wrote on top of a selfie of the Skims founder.

“FOR JAVAUGHNS SAKE [prayer-hand emojis],” Saffold added, referring to her grandson.

For six years, Kim has dedicated herself to all things criminal justice and prison reform. She’s helped a string of people to be pardoned from their sentences.

Why Karlissa May Want Kim’s Help

It’s not hard to see why Karlissa wants Kim’s help. Her journey started back when she helped Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for a non-violent drug offense.

She took up the cause, used her influential voice, and fought for Alice’s release. Former President Trump granted clemency in 2018 with Kim’s help. Additionally, she actively uses her platform to advocate for others who have been unjustly sentenced.

Kim has also worked with #Cut50, a national initiative to cut crime and incarceration across all 50 states, per the New York Times. While some may question why Saffold would reach out to the TV personality, her attempt to get Kim on board and help Blueface was at least worth a try.

In the short time that the father of three has been away, his on-off girlfriend and child’s mother, Jaidyn Alexis, found herself getting cozy with a former women’s basketball player at a recent club appearance.

Meanwhile, Chrisean Rock has kept herself in the headlines as recently as last week. The Zeus Network star revealed her enormous face tattoo of the California rapper, despite them no longer being together.

Karlissa Wants Megan Thee Stallion As Blueface’s New Girlfriend

Outside of hoping Kim can lend her law skills to help Blueface regain his freedom, Karlissa also manifests that her son will find a new leading lady in his life. In an interview with TMZ, she boldly stated that Megan Thee Stallion would be the perfect woman for him.

It’s not the first time she’s said this, either. She previously touched on her desire to see Meg and Blueface together while on IG Live in September 2023. “‘Megan and Blue need to make a baby,’” she said, per HipHopDX. “Yes, I don’t know why y’all was trying to act like she too good for my son. The b**ch just got shot in the foot, come on now.”

The famous rappers already appear to have shared some history in the past.

In October 2023, Blueface appeared on the ‘The Jason Lee Show.’ During their chat, he bragged about Meg having allegedly once performed oral sex on him.

“I’ve already been there and done that,” he said when Lee brought up Karlissa’s comments about wanting him to date the H-Town Hottie, per Hot New Hip Hop.

“I might have got some head… a long time ago,” he added.

He elaborated, saying their alleged hookup occurred around the time they were both featured on XXL’s 2019 Freshman cover.

XXL Freshmen, five years ago. BET Awards, five years ago. I did all of the stuff already […] I don’t say too much, but if asked, I’m gonna give you nothing but the truth.”

    Removed from the General Population

Per TMZ, Blueface was removed from the general population of inmates shortly after his arrival. He has now been placed in what is known as administrative segregation. This essentially means that Blueface has a cell all to himself. He’ll be away from the hustle and bustle of the general population.

The reason for his segregation remains a mystery. Although, it’s typically done for safety reasons, either for the inmates themselves or the prison staff. Being taken out of the general population certainly comes with its benefits. The aforementioned publication claims he gets his meals delivered straight to his cell.

Additionally, he can leave his cell for up to seven hours a week to participate in educational classes or religious services if he wishes. He also has access to a rooftop yard where he can call his family or lawyers. Talk about having some breathing room! The rapper also gets access to a television in the shared unit and can even visit the library. It’s not exactly a Netflix subscription, but it’s more than most inmates get.

Rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion stays booked, busy, and unbothered by the haters. The reigning queen of rap has inked a history-making record deal with Warner Music Group that could revolutionize the music industry.

Megan’s new deal sees her keep her power as an independent artist while WMG provides distribution and marketing. The “HISS” rapper will retain the publishing rights and masters of her original music. In addition, all new music will be released through her independent label, Hot Girl Productions.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,” Megan Thee Stallion said in a statement. “I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know we’re going to create history together.”

This is a huge victory for Megan, who sued her former label 1501 Certified Entertainment in 2020 over a royalties dispute and creative control. They eventually settled out of court and Megan established herself as an independent artist. Megan now retains her independence while reaping the benefits of a major studio deal.

The issue of ownership and masters rights became major news in 2019 when Taylor Swift announced she was re-recording her albums after manager Scooter Braun purchased her catalog from Big Machine Records. Swift’s re-releases have been massively successful, and she is nearly done re-recording her first six albums.

Megan’s new deal is a bold step for the rapper and sets the stage for collaborators and future artists. Now, Megan not only retains ownership of her music, but she also has full creative control going forward. Despite the setbacks that life throws at her, Megan always rises above and comes out on top. Next stop? Megan Thee Mogul.

Hot Girl Moves! Megan Thee Stallion Inks “First Deal Of Its Kind” With Major Label

    [ad_1]

On the heels of releasing her new song ‘Hiss,’ Megan Thee Stallion has announced she’s signed a new distribution deal.

The H-Town Hottie shared the exciting news with fans on Friday (February 2), noting that the partnership will allow her to remain independent.

Megan Thee Stallion Announces New Distribution Deal

But more excitingly, Megan will also take ownership of her masters and publishing.

“Thank you GOD Hotties today HISSTORY was made!!!” She wrote. “This is thee first deal of its kind!!! I hope artist still on the come up or even artists who are already established never get discouraged by all the obstacles that come with this industry!”

Additionally, the agreement also enables the ‘Cobra’ rapper to release her music through her independent entertainment entity, Hot Girl Productions, while simultaneously working with WMG and its affiliates.

This means that Megan will gain access to WMG’s global services, including distribution, radio promotion, and marketing.

With the ‘WAP’ hitmaker gearing up to release her third studio album later this year, per Rolling Stone, Warner Music will play a role in its rollout success.

“Even with all the odds against me, I fought for MYSELF, the hotties fought for me and, @rocnation fought for me!!! I’m forever grateful!!!” Meg continued. “Let’s REALLY KEEP RUNNING IT UP HOTTIES! Shout out to MAMA HOLLY I know she’s guiding me through all this 💙 #HOTGIRLPRODUCTIONS.”

Megan Thee Stallion Cuts Ties With Her Former Label For Good

Inking her new deal with Warner comes just months after Megan and 1501 Certified Entertainment reached a settlement following their years-long dispute.

The two parties had been going back and forth since 2020, when Megan requested to renegotiate her contract, per the Los Angeles Times.

She argued that the label had failed to provide sufficient promotional resources to support her music and accused the firm of owing her over $1 million in unpaid royalties.

Meg’s legal team deemed the deal below industry standards, sparking a lengthy court battle between the rapper and 1501.

In October 2023, she reached a settlement that subsequently paved the way for her to explore new opportunities and take full control of her music career.

With her new distribution deal, Megan continues to assert her independence and entrepreneurial spirit.

She was enthusiastic about her prosperous future, stating, “This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career.”

“I’m really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so I’m proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know we’re going to create history together.”

  • What’s going on between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion?

What’s going on between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion?

    [ad_1]

The internet is alive with fresh rap beef – and this time, it’s Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion who are at the centre of an unfolding feud. It seems that Nicki has taken major issue with Megan’s new track, Hiss – and one line in particular, at that.

Twitter (now X) has been alive with theories regarding the drama between the pair since Megan dropped the song on January 26 – but here’s what we actually know so far.

Why are Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion feuding?

Hiss is most certainly a diss track of sorts, with Megan taking down her haters and calling out a number of unnamed people in the lyrics. She sets the tone with a spoken section at the beginning of the song, saying: “I just wanna kick this sh*t off by saying, F**k y’all! I ain’t gotta clear my name on a motherf**kin’ thang… I’m finna get this sh*t off my chest and lay it to rest. Let’s go.”

One particular line, though, was thought to reference Nicki Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty.

“These h**s don’t be mad at Megan, these h**s mad at Megan’s Law. I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start,” the lyrics go, which many believe to be a jibe referencing a US law that requires all sex offender registers to be available to the public.

Nicki’s husband Kenneth is a registered sex offender, after he was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 when he was 16 years-old. More recently, he was sentenced to a year’s house arrest after failing to register as a sex offender in California, after he moved there with Nicki.

In response, Nicki took to Instagram Live to share her reaction to the song – and her own diss track aimed at Megan, in which she repeatedly called her ‘Big Foot’.

Seemingly referencing the ‘Megan’s Law’ lyric, she also said: “You bringing up 30-year-old tea from when this man was a 15-year-old child.”

  • Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Not My Fault” Seeks to Vindicate Regina George For Being a Bitch

Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Not My Fault” Seeks to Vindicate Regina George For Being a Bitch

    [ad_1]

Just as Regina George likely would have been praised for her burgeoning badonkadonk had the original been made in the present, so, too, would she have also been praised for being a bitch. Or what Latrice Royale calls, “Being In Total Control of Herself.” In fact, that’s exactly what Reneé Rapp (who plays Regina in both the musical version and latest film edition of Mean Girls) and Megan Thee Stallion seek to achieve with their single, “Not My Fault.” A line, of course, taken directly from Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron’s mouth when she tells Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan), “It’s not my fault you’re, like, in love with me or something.” This narcissistic dig itself borrowed from Regina (Rachel McAdams) when she told Cady that Janis was, like, “obsessed” with her when they were friends back in junior high. Proving that, in the art of “mean girl’ing,” the student surpassed the teacher as Cady came up with a better way to phrase it.

Alas, back in 2004, it was frowned upon to be an outright bitch. To be sure, it was really only the gays—ahead of the curve on trends as usual—who revered the cunty women of this world (see: that scene in Truth or Dare when one of Madonna’s dancers gushes, “I love it when she’s mean”). As time has gone on, and views/attitudes about how a girl should “be” have evolved, it’s now actually become more frowned upon to be “nice” as a woman than it is to be a so-called bitch (a.k.a. acting the way men do without consequence all the time). To that point, when a woman is “nice”—better known as “meek”—she’s presently more likely to be accused of perpetuating the vicious cycle of (white) silence that has allowed patriarchy to thrive unchecked for so long.

So it is that with the “upgrade” of Mean Girls into the later twenty-first century (which hardly means that it can ever compare to the original), an according soundtrack upgrade has come with it. Thus, aligning the “woke” messaging of the “new” movie with the new music. Enter Megan Thee Stallion (no stranger to Mean Girls homages after her 2021 Coach ad campaign) to assist the “new queen bee” (but, honestly, there is no replacement for Rachel McAdams), Reneé Rapp, on the rather flaccid “Not My Fault.” Indeed, it sounds like something from the Meghan Trainor reject pile, and far beneath Megan Thee Stallion’s usual collaborations. And, speaking of far beneath someone, the recent appalling Mean Girls x Wal-Mart commercial featuring the original cast was noticeably missing the presence of McAdams as Regina (because, really, what sensible person would want to be part of such grim fan fiction?). Soon after the release of the none too subtle Trojan horse for capitalism via millennial nostalgia, McAdams had no problem explaining her absence by remarking, “I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest. A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag.” Translation: “that’s the ugliest f-ing commercial concept I’ve ever seen.”

The same goes for the first single to represent the latest Mean Girls Soundtrack, with Rapp seeming to have taken overt inspiration from Britney Spears’ anachronistic “Mind Your Business.” While Britney sing-chants, “Where she at? Where she at? Where she at? Where she at? Where she at?/There she go, there she go, there she go, there she go, there she go/What she do? What she do? What she do?” Rapp simplifies it down to, “Where she at? (where she at?)/What she doin’? (what she doin’?)/Who she with and where she from?” Just another vexing manner in which Gen Z feels obliged to copy millennials (despite constantly branding them as cringe) while seeming to genuinely believe they’ve come up with something “unique.” However, the accompanying video, directed by Mia Barnes, doesn’t bother pretending to be anything innovative, mostly stealing its costuming from the Barbie-meets-Pam-Anderson-in-the-90s playbook.

With the majority of the “narrative” flashing to scenes from the movie in between Rapp and Thee Stallion parading around in their aforementioned Barbie/Pamela pink stylings (complete with furry hats), there’s also a long scene of Rapp getting “Regina George” tattooed in various fonts on various parts of her body. Another moment shows Megan and Reneé standing between two rows of Regina-inspired mannequins before taking baseball bats to them. Almost as if, in some faux “poetic” way, they’re trying to tell us that they’re destroying the “old” Regina George (“Sorry, the old Regina can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Because she’s dead”). The one who was lambasted for being a “bitch” and then decided to amend her ways at the end of the film by channeling her rage into lacrosse.

Rapp confirms this “rebranding” with the lyrics, “I’m not on the same shit from before/I can’t take this pettiness, now I’m bored, uh-huh/We can share, babe, there’s enough for us all [an obvious nod to Cady sharing the pieces of her seemingly endless tiara]/Told you who I am and what it is, that’s not my fault.” In other words, she won’t be apologizing for simply being her undiluted self. Then again, no one is much interested in that self when she’s standing next to Megan Thee Stallion, who viewers have to wait a full one minute and forty-four seconds to hear deliver her verse (making it somewhat awkward to see her dance and prance around next to Rapp for that entire time). Rising to the occasion of embodying her “Black Regina George” status, she appears in a tank top with holes cut out at the nipples to reveal a purple bra à la 2004 Regina after Janis, Damian (Daniel Franzese) and Cady fail to sabotage her outfit because she ends up “making it fashion.”

Megan then carries the song out of the bowels it began in by rapping, “I’m a mood, borin’ whores gotta Pinterest me.” This being the crux of the song’s statement about how “bitches” are really just women who express themselves without fear of reprisal (including the usual “comeuppance” of being called a bitch, especially by men). So it is that Thee Stallion also adds, “It’s funny how the mean girl open all the doors” and “I got influence, they do anything I endorse/I run shit, to be a bad bitch is a sport.” And an art. One that, to Tina Fey’s chagrin, cannot be topped by the original gangster of mean girl’ing that is Rachel McAdams’ Regina. Who Megan and Reneé once again pay tribute to at the end of the video by sipping from matching teacups, with Megan’s reading, “Boo You” and Rapp’s reading, of course, “Whore.”

But, like “bitch,” “whore” now has a much more positive connotation than it did in 2004. That wasn’t the case when Regina was using it in a more “SWERF”-sounding than sex-positive manner when directing it at Karen (Amanda Seyfried). But then, this is also the girl who didn’t want to invite a potential lesbian to her birthday party. So yeah, it’s much harder for Regina to be mean in the same way in the present as she was in the past. Which, in the end, invites the question: how much of a bitch can she really be amid post-woke culture?

Back at it again with the hottest thirst traps of the week amid trending celebrity headlines including Ashanti and Nelly reportedly expecting their first child together, Cardi B and Offset seemingly skrr-skrrting into another rough patch, Deion Sanders and Tracey Edmonds calling it quits, Lupita Nyong’o and Joshua Jackson spotted shopping together despite their respective splits, and much more.

As promised, we’ve compiled swoon-worthy stunners (and our thirst-trappin’ celebrity faves) with Megan Thee Stallion returning to the series after shattering social media with her deeply vulnerable single “Cobra” where she details catching a certain someone cheating IN HER BED.

Naturally, fans assumed she was referring to ex-boo Pardison Fontaine and DRAGGED him through hottie hellfire and back but she didn’t actually say a name, leaving the door open for messy speculation.

“Pulled up, caught him cheating, getting his d**k sucked in the same spot I’m sleeping Lord, give me a break, I don’t know how much more of this s**t I can take,” she raps on the single that immediately sent fans into a FRENZY.

The buzzy track was accompanied by cinematically slithery visuals of the rapper “shedding her skin” as an analogy for her new era after overcoming her recent trauma.

    Check out the video below:

While she doesn’t directly address the relationship, “Cobra” marked the first time Meg addressed her breakup with Pardi publicly.

This week’s thirst trap compilation features Erica Fontaine delivering heat along with Rosa Acosta and Ari Fletcher giving what needs to be gave.

There’s also big baddie energy from Daalischus, Yasmine Lopez, and Brianna Amour so we invite you to enjoy our latest collection of top-tier thirst traps on the flip.

The world of celebrity relationships often enthralls fans, and the saga between Megan Thee Stallion and Moneybagg Yo is no exception. Amidst swirling rumors and speculation, their confirmed romance took unexpected turns followed by a subsequent break-up between the two. Moneybagg Yo after their break up continues to excel in his professional life as his musical career continues to grow.

Moneybagg Yo on breaking up with Megan Thee Stallion

In the realm of hip-hop gossip, Megan Thee Stallion and Moneybagg Yo’s relationship became a focal point. Despite initial assumptions in 2019, the duo’s secret romantic involvement was confirmed by Moneybagg Yo himself in a January 2020 interview with Ebro Darden. The revelation, however, came with a twist – the couple had already parted ways.

As retrieved via Nicki Swift, Moneybagg Yo candidly shared insights into the dynamics, citing, “Two strong personalities just bumping heads a lot. It didn’t work. You know what I’m sayin? But I always wish her the best. I’m really proud of her. The Megan I know and the Megan y’all know are two different things. Still love. It ain’t nothing like that, no bad blood. We just didn’t see eye to eye.” Despite parting ways, he extended warm wishes to Megan, emphasizing the stark contrast between the public and private personas of the talented rapper.

  • She’s The Man!

    She’s The Man!

    [ad_1]

They’d say I hustled, put in the work

They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve

What I was wearing, if I was rude

Could all be separated from my good ideas and power moves

    Taylor Swift, “The Man”

    When
Barbie premiered in July, women felt seen in the cinema — perhaps for the first time in a long time. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was more than a beginner’s feminist manifesto, but also a meditation on what it means to be both a woman and mother in today’s world. It was a gentle reminder that maybe we’re all just trying our best — and that our best is enough.

It also encouraged women celebrate each other more.
The Barbie effect had us all wearing pink, emulating Margot Robbie’s cowboy-chic style, and referring to men as our “Kens.” And with help from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, her friendship bracelets, and sense of community, women were winning. It’s the first year in history that women dominated the Billboard Hot 100 twice (thanks to Swift and her Midnights and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) album). Like I said, it’s a good year to be a woman.

This celebration of women and our successes is long overdue, but the promising news is that it isn’t slowing down.
Barbie’s feminist wave has shifted how we are accepting ourselves (and others) as women.

So it’s no surprise that women are raking in awards this year too, dominating the Grammy nominations and more. We hail celebrities for all sorts of achievements: Patrick Dempsey is
People’s Sexiest Man Alive (deserved), Taylor Swift is the world leader (they literally projected her welcome onto Christ the Redeemer), and Austin Butler is Best Elvis (because somehow we have multiple).

And one of the buzziest celeb awards is run by
GQ (short for Gentlemen’s Quarterly), whose “Men Of The Year” award is a highlight of every fall/winter. Similar to TIME’s 100 list, GQ likes to celebrate those who have taken the world by storm annually.

This year, the recipient of the Man of the Year award is none other than
    Kim Kardashian…and they’re not wrong.

Kim has been taking her empire to new heights in 2023: building on the 2022 launch of her
SKKN-care line, breaking ground with Skims’ Men’s campaign, the Nipple Bra, and becoming the official partner of the NBA/WNBA, working on prison reform, filming The Kardashians on Hulu, starring alongside Emma Roberts in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story as Siobhan Corbyn, I could go on.

Calling someone “the man” has now become synonymous with “a winner.” Saying “you’re the man” is a sign of their success. And though this might have problematic roots, women are reclaiming the term — like the Taylor Swift song.
And in the grand scheme of things: Kim Kardashian is the man.

Some hard working men get the title alongside Kim in the
GQ issue. The other MOTY honorees include Jacob Elordi (AKA Elvis #2, who’s starring in blockbusters like Sofia Coppolla’s Priscilla and Saltburn alongside Barry Keoghan), Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin, designer-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford, and Travis Scott. But you have to admit that Kim hasn’t come up for air this year.

It’s right there for us to see in episodes of
The Kardashians: Kim flying from country to country for another event on her booked and busy schedule. She’s literally everywhere at once, officiating recently divorced Chris Appleton and Lukas Gage’s wedding, shooting countless magazine covers and promo shoots for her growing enterprise, opening a Skims popup here, and shooting an episode of AHS there.

Is there anything she can’t do?

Meet The Previous Recipients Of GQ’s Men of the Year

Kim Kardashian is one of the few women to grace the cover of
GQ’s Man of the Year edition. Technically dubbed “Tycoon of the Year”, acknowledging her business successes over the past few years (and for the gender neutrality of it all)- Kardashian joins a host of some of the most famous men in the world. Let’s take a look at the past five years:

    2022: Brendan Fraser, Andrew Garfield

2021: Lil Nas X, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tom Holland

2020: Megan Thee Stallion, George Clooney, Trevor Noah

2019: Jennifer Lopez, Tyler, The Creator, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino

2018: Michael B. Jordan, Henry Golding, Jonah Hill

Women are normally recognized during the Men of the Year ceremonies, as it is a celebration of all people who emulated pop culture that year…however, no year has celebrated women quite like 2023.

The Men of the Year Awards 2023 were held on November 15 at London’s Royal Opera House where cover stars like Jeremy Allen White, boygenius, and Kardashian were in attendance.

Other female recipients included Megan Thee Stallion and Rihanna, who have paved their own paths in both the music and fashion industry. Rihanna with her Savage x Fenty inclusive lingerie line and Fenty Beauty has been changing the makeup and underwear game for a while now. Megan Thee Stallion is coming off a high-profile trial that she won against Tory Lanez, under immense public scrutiny, has become a figure for mental health and domestic violence while still creating hit records.

It’s one of the most female-dominated
GQ events we’ve seen, which is a pattern. The GRAMMY Award nominations just rolled out with so many female artists nominated, you’d think it’s a record. In the top three categories, female acts make up seven out of eight nominees.

This year, women are the man. It’s an exciting, uplifting time where we get to celebrate with each other instead of tearing one another down. Kim K is just another example of the
    Barbie effect.

  • Less Phallic, More Spiritual: Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cobra”

Less Phallic, More Spiritual: Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cobra”

    [ad_1]

While one might automatically assume that a song called “Cobra,” coming from Megan Thee Stallion, would be inherently innuendo-laden (it was, after all, in “WAP” that Cardi B declared, “I need a king cobra”), in the end, the rapper’s latest single is more spiritual than sexual. Because, lest anyone forget, the cobra is known just as much for being able to shed its skin as it is for its phallic nature.

So it is that the Douglas Bernardt-directed video begins with a circular close-up on Megan Thee Stallion’s mouth (with the entire rest of the screen in black) as she informs us, “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again.” Amen. Soon after, the camera zooms out to show Thee Stallion with snake eyes. Bernardt then cuts to a very birth-like scene (you know, think: emerging from ya ma’s vaginal canal) of Megan, practically in her birthday suit, crawling out of the snake’s mouth. After making her way out into the wilderness-y milieu, another snake awaits as the rock-oriented (by rap standards) beat drops and Thee Stallion commences her tale of woe and overcoming it with the lyrics, “Breakin’ down and I had the whole world watchin’/But the worst part is really who watched me/Every night I cried, I almost died/And nobody close tried to stop it/Long as everybody gettin’ paid, right?/Everything’ll be okay, right?”

Surely, these are lines that Britney Spears can relate to. In addition to, “I’m winnin’, so nobody trippin’/Bet if I ever fall off, everybody go missin’.” Indeed, part of Spears’ big “fuck you” to the many who wronged her, particularly her family, is to shirk the music industry altogether at this point (with rumors still swirling that she’s due to “return” any day now). So if Megan ever wants to take the same approach, she knows who to look to for inspiration. At the same time, Spears has shown her cobra-like strength by shedding the trauma of her own past and still “daring” to interface with the public at all (mostly on Instagram). And, besides, this is the same girl who iconically draped a snake around her shoulders while shimmying to “I’m A Slave 4 U” at the 2001 VMAs. The snake metaphor has long been in her wheelhouse (much to Taylor Swift’s dismay).

As for the moody guitar rhythm of “Cobra,” brought to listeners by Bankroll Got It, Shawn “Source” Jarrett and Derrick Milano, it reminds one of ANTI-era Rihanna—namely the sixth track on the album, “Woo” (co-produced by Hit-Boy, Kuk Harrell and, yes, Travis Scott). But the visuals themselves are pure Nicki Minaj (complete with a similar state of undress) in the video for 2018’s “Ganja Burn,” off the Queen album. And, like “Cobra,” “Ganja Burn” also offers a prologue, this one written (instead of spoken) as follows:

Once upon a time, in a world unknown… there lived a queen. The generous queen. One day, her enemies all came together to hold a secret meeting and concocted a plan to take the generous queen down. They conspired with someone who was once very close to her & struck like a thief in the night. Though the queen could hear & see them in her mind, she decided to allow them an easy victory. She advised her army to do & say nothing. They slaughtered her village. What they perceived as death was a deep sleep. Once the generous queen had enough of her rest, she began to arise as she blew life back into her army. They all assembled, stronger & better than ever. They became more protective of the queen than ever before. She made a command. One command. ‘Kill everything in sight.’ With those words, her enemies were all put to death. The queen’s empire celebrated. They asked her, ‘Why did you allow us to be defeated?’ She responded, ‘So that generations for years & years to come would know, that even in the grave, he is lord.

Megan Thee Stallion wants to convey a similar message to her own enemies, with especial focus on the man who caused so much of her suicide ideation for the past few years, Tory Lanez. It is he that The Stallion refers to when she provides the aforementioned rap, “Breakin’ down and I had the whole world watchin’/But the worst part is really who watched me/Every night I cried, I almost died.” And yet, despite understanding the preciousness of life after her near-death experience, Megan still can’t help feeling “very depressed.” We’re talking wrist-slittingly depressed.

Addressing the conundrum of being rich and successful, yet still feeling empty inside (to bring up Britney again, she already explored that pain with 2000’s “Lucky”), Megan sings, “How can somebody so blessed wanna slit they wrist?/Shit, I’d probably bleed out some Pinot/When they find me, I’m in Valentino, ayy.” Needless to say, the expensive wines and the designer labels aren’t enough to fill an emotional and spiritual void. Which means, like Britney in 2003, maybe it’s time for Megan to seek Kabbalah counsel from Madonna, who once told her dancers that after their tour (2004’s Reinvention Tour, to be exact), she hoped they had become “more compassionate to other human beings and more responsible for your actions and your words, because without those two things your gifts and your talents mean nothing.”

Perhaps Thee Stallion is starting to pick up on that message, even if still allowing herself to wallow in her melancholia just a little bit longer. During the chorus, she speaks to that sadness on a new level, channeling Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) in the vulvodynia episode of Sex and the City (“The Real Me”) when she says, “This pussy deprеssed, hmm/I’m about to stress him, yeah.” This is said while Megan is in a human-sized tank meant to mirror the kind that “pet” cobras and other snakes are usually kept in, all while strangers watch her and take her picture. Thus, she takes Taylor Swift’s “fishbowl” metaphor from the “Lover” video and remakes it with a snake tank. For that’s what it is to be famous: trapped inside a glass prison with everyone on the outside examining and dissecting your every move. Inside the tank, Megan peels off another layer of skin from her face.

Intercut scenes in black and white then start to show up, featuring Megan in her most Nicki-looking aesthetic yet. A smattering of heads contained inside a sea of snakes also serves to highlight Thee Stallion’s overarching message that she will always triumph over her enemies, hitting back when they least expect it with her own set of venomous fangs. Dancing in the middle of a spiral jetty during the mercurial guitar solo (at its most “80s rock” yet), Thee Stallion again gives off major “Ganja Burn” video vibes. Soon, a montage of images that we’ve seen throughout the video play at a rapid-fire pace before the camera finally pauses on Thee Stallion’s face looking back at us, her back arched and her breathing visible. It is in this moment that the viewer can understand the full weight of her focus on the cobra as a spirit animal. For it is she who posted an image relating to the cobra’s symbolic meaning that stated, “Cobras exemplify courage and self-reliance. They stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges, teaching one to tap into their inner strength and rely on oneself to conquer their threats. Emulating the cobra helps one be more confident in the person they are within.”

How fitting, then, that “Cobra” should serve as the first single from Megan’s Hot Girl label. Part of a larger company called Hot Girl Productions LLC—and secured after years of legal battles with 1501 Certified Entertainment—it’s no coincidence that her first release since 2022’s Traumazine is a marked departure from the sound of previous music. Not just the melding of rap and rock (of the variety perhaps not seen since Run DMC and Aerosmith joined forces), but with the amplification of her deeply personal lyrics. The kind of lyrics that are generally not associated with being “rap topics” (because that can only extend to repetitive mentions of bands and booties, n’est-ce pas?).

This includes exposing further vulnerability by alluding to her breakup with Pardison Fontaine, as she refers to his infidelity via the lines, “Pulled up, caught him cheatin’/Gettin’ his dick sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’.” Here, again, it’s worth remarking that Minaj was the mainstream’s progenitor of these kinds of deeply personal lyrics in her rap music, with notable examples including The Pinkprint’s “I Lied,” “The Crying Game” and “Pills n Potions.” With “Cobra,” Megan Thee Stallion is amplifying the “vulnerability in rap” trend that Minaj started a decade ago and making it all her own.

Fans Rally Behind Megan Thee Stallion After New Song Hints Her Ex Cheated

    [ad_1]

Megan Thee Stallion’s fans are rallying behind her after the release of her new song, “Cobra,” which hinted that an ex-boyfriend was unfaithful to her.

In “Cobra,” which released on Friday, the Houston artist raps about the deaths of her parents and experiencing anxiety, before she hints that she was cheated on: “Pulled up, caught him cheating / getting his d**k sucked in the spot I’m sleeping.”

The rapper did not name her ex in the song, but fans immediately assumed she was referencing her ex-boyfriend, musician Pardison Fontaine, whose real name is Jordan Thorpe.

Megan had publicly confirmed their relationship on Instagram Live in 2021, but rumors began swirling earlier this year in May that the two had broken up. Fontaine has since been romantically linked to singer Jada Kingdom.

Fontaine has yet to publicly respond to the new song — though he did share two interesting posts on his Instagram story on Friday.

The singer/songwriter shared posts that featured rapper Future and NBA player Tristan Thompson — two celebrities who have been widely criticized for cheating scandals.

Elsewhere in the new song, Megan discusses dealing with depression, suicidal ideation and comments surrounding self-harm.

The rapper also references some of the scrutiny she faced from her peers in the music industry after she testified during a trial last year that rapper Tory Lanez wounded her when he shot her in the feet several times in the summer of 2020.

“Why is you speaking on me at my lowest / when you acted like you ain’t noticed?” she raps.

Last year, rappers Drake and 21 Savage released a song titled “Circo Loco,” in which the former appeared to accuse Megan of lying about the shooting incident in one of his verses.

The Houston rapper slammed Drake and 21 Savage at the time, accusing them of spreading “conspiracy theories.”

Lanez was found guilty on all three charges in the shooting, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August.

Megan’s fans have called out the backlash she received over Lanez’s trial, and the overall lack of protection for Black women who suffer abuse.

On Friday, many of her supporters took to X, formerly Twitter, to focus their attention on Fontaine:

Leave it up to Megan Thee Stallion to deliver a sultry sartorial moment. On Nov. 3, the rapper released her highly-anticipated first solo single of the year, “Cobra” along with a captivating video that contained hidden messages for fans to digest. Megan has been teasing the song for the past month on her Instagram, even giving followers a peak at one of her most revealing looks to date: a brown reptile-textured thongkini.

After her lips emerge from a black screen saying “As a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again,” the 28 year-old star is first seen in the thongkini coming out of a massive cobra, marking her new chapter. She then quickly transitions to a black-and-white snakeskin-inspired ensemble that features a bandeau top, a maxi skirt with a thigh-high slit, and a long cape. Megan paired the look with her hair in a dramatic bun, edgy makeup, and an array of silver jewelry.

Getting to the climax of the video, she appears in a green cage where she sheds her skin, revealing a wet-look dress, then resurfacing in a metallic bodysuit with over 20 cutouts. For the last look, she accessorizes with matching earrings and a long ponytail, giving major “Renaissance” vibes. Finally, Megan finishes things off in a black embellished two-piece set, complete with coordinating arm cuffs and a vinyl neck collar.

Since her resurgence into the spotlight, the “Bongos” artist has worn everything from Barbiecore-pink corsets to rhinestone-embellished naked dresses, styled by Zerina Akers. She’s even worked with Image Architect Law Roach, most notably donning a ’70s flared-pants set inspired by Paco Rabanne’s Spring 1997 ready-to-wear collection in March.

Megan Thee Stallion announces first single from her independent label after her lawsuit; Check release date, name, and more

Megan Thee Stallion is back with one of the most anticipated singles after a long lawsuit against her previous record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. The fans have been waiting for this news for a while now, as her new track is all set to become the first single released through her own label called ‘Hot Girl Productions.’

Here’s everything you need to know about Stallion’s upcoming single.

Megan Thee Stallion announces new single’s first look and release date

The singer took to her Instagram on October 28 to drop big updates about her upcoming single. The singer posted a picture of her track’s cover. She appears to be almost unclad, with the backdrop of what seems to be a jungle. With the caption, the artwork makes more sense as she reveals the release date and name of the track. She wrote, “COBRA NOVEMBER 3RD. PRE-SAVE NOW!”

Before the big reveal, the singer had dropped a small promotion for her single; as of now, it is unclear if it’s part of the music video or not. Stallion is heard saying in the clip, “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again.”

Megan is completely covered in the shadows, with only her snake-like eyes shining bright in the darkness.

1501 Certified Entertainment announced on their Instagram page that they had finally come to an agreement with Diamonds singer. Their statement read, “Megan Thee Stallion and 1501 Certified Entertainment are pleased to announce that they have mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences. As part of the arrangement, both parties have agreed to amicably part ways.”

It continued, “Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses.” The post ended with CEO Carl Crawford wishing the rapper “the very best in her life and career.”

All the way back in 2020, the singer had accused her label of stopping her from releasing any new music; during an Instagram live, she also added that 1501 didn’t want to “renegotiate” her contract. Then, in 2022, when the musician released her album titled Something for Thee Hotties and Traumazine, she argued that it was enough to fulfill her contract’s requirements, while the documents obtained by People Magazine showed that the company had disagreed.

The H-Town Hottie is slithering back on the scene with new music and another sizzling teaser. On Friday, Megan announced the release date and name of her next single. Her triumphant return is almost here, dropping “Cobra: A Story By Megan Thee Stallion” on Nov. 3. This marks her first solo release since her sophomore album Traumazine in 2022.

The Grammy winner showed off the results of all her viral workout videos. Surrounded by a lush jungle, she rocked a bronze armored bikini that didn’t leave much to the imagination. Megan’s glistening flawless skin, super-snatched waist, and copious cakes left fans drooling.

Lawd, is it hot in here, or is it just Thee Stallion?

Megan Thee Stallion Is Shedding The Past Like She She Shed Her Clothes

According to the “Savage” rapper, her music won’t be the only thing that’s new. She dropped another teaser video earlier this week, revealing why she chose to embody the cold-blooded creature.

“Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again,” she said in the cryptic clip over an ominous guitar beat.

The “Bongos” baddie simply captioned the post “Act One” with a snake emoji. The video also included shots of her with glowing white snake eyes and baring some super long fangs, ready to strike. Douglas Bernardt will direct the highly anticipated visuals.

As BOSSIP previously reported, Megan is truly shedding the past after she officially severed ties with her old label. After several years and multimillion-dollar lawsuits, she settled her legal battle with 1501 Certified Entertainment. Both parties “reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences” and will finally “amicably part ways.”

Prior to making her freedom official in court, Megan promised fans her next chapter would be “fully independent.” After 1501 allegedly blocked her bag and new music, she’s taking her career into her own hands (or fangs). She’s one of the hottest free agents in the music game and plans to keep it that way for now.

“This part of my album is definitely very much funded by Megan Thee Stallion because we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now. We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets,” she said on Instagram Live.

“The budget is coming from me. Motherfucking Hot Girl Productions! The next s**t y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain, Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We in my pockets, Hotties, so let’s do our big one.”

You heard her, Hotties! If this is just a taste of Act One, the full rollout can’t come soon enough.

What do you think of Megan Thee Stallion’s latest teaser? Are you ready for “Cobra” to drop on Nov. 3?
