  • Mark Sanchez let go by Fox Sports after stabbing incident in Indianapolis

    [ad_1]

Former NFL quarterback and TV analyst Mark Sanchez has been let go by Fox Sports a month after he was stabbed during a fight in Indianapolis.

“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a Fox Sports spokesman told CBS News on Friday. “There will be no further comment at this time.”

Sanchez, 38, has been off the air since police said he was stabbed during a fight with a truck driver outside an Indianapolis hotel on Oct. 4. The former quarterback was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of the Oct. 5 game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanchez faces a felony battery charge, along with several misdemeanors, for what prosecutors have said was a fight over parking. If convicted, he could face a sentence of between one to six years in prison.

Sanchez and Fox Sports also face a civil lawsuit filed by the driver, 69-year-old Perry Tole.

Nick Sanchez Jr., on behalf of the Sanchez family, provided a statement to CBS News on Friday, saying: “It’s been a long month for Mark as he continues to recover from serious injuries while also grieving the loss of a close friend. While the recent news — and its timing — is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery.”

He continued: “Mark deeply values his time at FOX and the exceptional colleagues he’s had the privilege to work with. Those relationships are meaningful and will endure.”

Fox Sports announced Friday that it has hired former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to replace Sanchez as its No. 4 NFL crew. He will also team up with play-by-play announcer Adam Amin and sideline reporter Kristina Pink. Brees’ first game will be Nov. 16.

Brees retired from the NFL following the 2020 season after a 20-year career with the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans, including leading the Saints to their only Super Bowl title during the 2009 season.

He joined NBC in 2021 as an analyst for Notre Dame college football games and was in the studio most Sundays for “Football Night in America.” Brees called a wild-card game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals but noticeably struggled. NBC and Brees parted ways a couple of months later.

Brees made a studio appearance during “Fox NFL Sunday” earlier this season and is slated to be an analyst for one of Netflix’s two Christmas Day games.

“Drew is one of the best to ever play the game, and we couldn’t be more excited to have his prolific credentials and unique insights as part of our coverage on Sundays,” said Brad Zager, Fox Sports president of production & operations and executive producer. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Fox Sports family.”

Brees added in a statement that he appreciated the opportunity to join Fox and that “I hope my passion for this game is reflected in the knowledge and insights I provide to the fans each Sunday.”

In his first year of eligibility, Brees is among the list of 52 modern-era players being considered for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Brees remains second all-time in league history in passing yards (80,358) and passing touchdowns (571).

While Brees takes over, Sanchez’s legal issues will go on.

An Indianapolis judge scheduled his trial to begin on Dec. 11.

A police affidavit alleges that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted Tole, who had backed his truck into a hotel’s loading docks in downtown Indianapolis on Oct. 4. Tole claims in his lawsuit that Sanchez entered the truck without permission, then physically blocked and shoved Tole, who then doused Sanchez with pepper spray.

When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Tole pulled a knife to defend himself, authorities said.

Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso, according to a police affidavit. A picture of Tole circulating online shows him in a neck brace on a hospital bed, covered in blood with a deep slash to the side of his face.

Sanchez had a 10-year NFL career before retiring in 2019. He spent four seasons with the New York Jets and also appeared in games with Philadelphia, Dallas and Washington.

He appeared on ABC and ESPN for two years before joining Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2021.

  • New Judge Reverses Ban, Cameras Allowed in Sanchez Trial

    [ad_1]

Previous Judge Jennifer P. Harrison denied the media request for cameras

Judge James B. Osborn approved a media request allowing cameras in the courtroom, which came as a welcome surprise to many. While Indiana has generally restricted camera access in courtrooms, they do allow for judicial discretion. It does remains unclear whether Mark Sanchez will be required to attend any hearings before his jury trial.

The Mark Sanchez battery case is currently set to go to trial on December 11, 2025 — for now. Insiders note that the Marion County, Indiana, court is extremely busy, with a packed docket that can make scheduling a challenge. The Sanchez docket lists at least three preliminary hearings, though it remains unclear whether Sanchez will attend any of them. The October 22 hearing is marked as “attorneys only,” while the December 2 hearing is noted as “remote — attorneys only.” Judge James B. Osborn also approved a media request for cameras in the courtroom on October 16- a move that’s considered rare in Indiana.

The former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports announcer was involved in an altercation in downtown Indianapolis, where he was allegedly the aggressor and sustained serious injuries. Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver and hotel worker, claimed self-defense after stabbing Sanchez. Sanchez was charged with felony battery resulting in bodily injury, along with several misdemeanor offenses.

Judge James B. Osborn was recently assigned to the Sanchez case after Judge Jennifer Prinz Harrison recused herself on October 14 for reasons that remain unknown. Insiders say that even Sanchez and his legal team are unsure why Harrison transferred the case.  Prinz Harrison has recently faced intense scrutiny for being “soft on crime.” The Indiana judge faced harsh criticism after sentencing Luis Leyba-Gonzalez in October 2025, who was involved in a high-speed crash that killed three people (while fleeing police) at 140 MPH, to only two years in prison. His victims included his own cousin and brother, as well as a 21-year-old woman who had been married for only 10 days.

Prosecutors initially sought 25 years in prison for his actions (later requesting 15 years). Instead, Judge Jennifer Prinz Harrison sentenced him to two years in prison plus seven years of home detention on counts including resisting law enforcement resulting in death.

Meanwhile, Judge James B. Osborn, received a “Recommended” rating from 95.5% of respondents in the 2014 judicial election cycle, according to the Indianapolis Bar Association survey. Both Judge Harrison and Judge Osborn, along with victim Perry Tole attorney Erik May and Sanchez’s attorney James Voyles, attended law school at IU McKinney. The next hearing in the Mark Sanchez criminal case is October 22nd.

  • Mark Sanchez, former NFL quarterback, released from Indianapolis hospital and custody, says he’s focused on recovering

    [ad_1]

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was released from an Indianapolis hospital and police custody on Sunday, a week after a violent altercation that led to multiple charges and injuries from multiple stab wounds.

Sanchez, who is a Fox Sports NFL game analyst, was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds following the altercation on Oct. 4. He was then charged with battery involving serious bodily injury, a felony. If convicted, he would face a sentence between one to six years, Marion County prosecutors said.

“Right now I am just kind of focused on my recovery and I just want to thank the first responders, Eskenazi hospital, Marion County sheriff and the Indianapolis Police Department, metro PD,” Sanchez told FOX59/CBS4 on Sunday. “But I’m focused on my recovery, and I just want to see my wife, I want to see my son, my two baby girls.”

He did not answer any questions about the charges he is facing.

“They’ll be a day to answer all these questions, and unfortunately, today is not that day,” he said, adding, “I guess the real thing here is I just want to thank Dr. (Lindsey) Mossler, the surgeon. She saved my life. So, I’m grateful for that.”

Sanchez is permitted to leave Indiana but first had to be fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken. A pretrial conference was scheduled for Nov. 5 in Indianapolis.

Prosecutors said the incident stemmed from a dispute over where a man was parked. They said Sanchez got into a fight with Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver, outside of a hotel.

According to court documents, Tole works for Restaurant Technologies, a Minnesota-based company that recycles and disposes of commercial cooking oil.

Sanchez and Tole began fighting over a parking situation before the argument turned violent, according to the affidavit. Tole, who told police that the former NFL star allegedly smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred, allegedly sprayed Sanchez with pepper spray before stabbing him in the upper torso. He said it was self-defense.

Sanchez was initially arrested for several misdemeanor charges, including battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a vehicle.

The affidavit stated that Tole suffered a severe laceration to the side of his face.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of last Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanchez had a 10-year NFL career before retiring in 2019. He spent four seasons with the New York Jets and also appeared in games with Philadelphia, Dallas and Washington.

He appeared on ABC and ESPN for two years before joining Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2021.

  • Truck driver sues former Broncos QB Mark Sanchez and Fox after violent fight over parking space

    [ad_1]

A 69-year-old truck driver who was seriously injured in a fight that prosecutors say was started by former Broncos quarterback and sports analyst Mark Sanchez is now suing Sanchez and his employer, Fox Corporation, in Indiana state court.

Lawyers for Perry Tole filed the lawsuit Monday seeking an unspecified amount in actual and punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees. The lawsuit accuses Sanchez of instigating a fight with Tole late Saturday night outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel, leading to “severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function” and other injuries and emotional distress.

Tole also stabbed Sanchez several times in the fight, according to police. A picture of Tole circulating online shows him in a neck brace on a hospital bed, covered in blood with a deep slash to the side of his face.

A media contact for Fox Corporation did not immediately respond to an email Tuesday seeking comment. Attorneys representing Sanchez in his criminal case declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Attorneys representing Tole in the lawsuit, which requested a trial by jury, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Sanchez is facing a felony battery charge, along with several misdemeanor charges, for what prosecutors said Monday was a fight over parking.

“We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space and-or a dispute about where people are parking, and it resulted in someone receiving just incredibly significant injures,” Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said at a news conference Monday.

A police affidavit says the 38-year-old Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted Tole, who had backed his truck into a hotel’s loading docks in downtown Indianapolis. Tole’s lawsuit said Sanchez entered Tole’s truck without permission, then physically blocked and shoved Tole, who then doused Sanchez with pepper spray.

When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Tole pulled a knife to defend himself, authorities said.

  • Former Broncos QB Mark Sanchez stabbed multiple times in altercation leading to charges against him

    [ad_1]

INDIANAPOLIS — Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was pepper-sprayed and stabbed multiple times during a late-night altercation with a 69-year-old truck driver in a downtown Indianapolis alley, which resulted in criminal charges against the Fox Sports analyst, according to court records filed Sunday.

Based on hotel video footage of the altercation early Saturday and the driver’s statement to police, a police affidavit alleges that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted the driver of a box truck that backed into a hotel’s loading docks, leading to a confrontation outside the vehicle that prompted the driver to defensively pull out a knife.

Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso, the affidavit signed by a police detective said. Sanchez remained hospitalized early Sunday, according to police. The truck driver, identified as P.T., had a cut to his left cheek, it said.

Sanchez was in stable condition, Fox Sports said Saturday. There was no immediate update Sunday.

His initial court hearing was set for Tuesday in a Marion County courtroom.

    Sanchez stabbed multiple times

As the altercation escalated, the driver feared “’this guy is trying to kill me’” and pulled his knife as Sanchez came at him, the affidavit said. Sanchez was initially stabbed two or three times, then stabbed again when he went at the driver again, it said.

“The next thing P.T. knew was Mr. Sanchez looked at him with a look of shock, he slowly turned around, and Mr. Sanchez took off northbound in the alley,” the document said.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call Sunday’s Raiders-Colts game. Instead, he was charged with battery resulting in injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication — all misdemeanors. Police got a warrant to obtain Sanchez’s phone and clothes from the hospital, the document said.

There were no immediate court records indicating whether Sanchez had legal representation yet.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said Sunday that his office would “follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.”

“What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured,” Mears said in a statement.

Fox Sports announcers acknowledge Sanchez’s absence Sunday

Sanchez told police at the hospital that all he could remember was grabbing for a window, the court document said. Sanchez said he didn’t know who else was involved or where the altercation happened.

“Friday night in Indianapolis, one of our team members, Mark Sanchez, was involved in an incident that, to be honest, we are still trying to wrap our heads around,” Curt Menefee said Sunday on Fox’s primary NFL pregame show. “At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Mark and his family and all of those involved.”

Fox Sports play-by-play announcer Chris Myers also acknowledged Sanchez’s absence on Sunday before introducing Sanchez’s replacement, Brady Quinn. Myers said he wanted to send thoughts and prayers to Sanchez and everyone involved in the incident.

Police officers found Sanchez with the stab wounds when they were dispatched to a downtown pub about 12:35 a.m. Saturday. The truck driver was found in the alley.

Details of the confrontation were disclosed in the affidavit, based on video footage and the truck driver’s statement to police.

The video showed a man believed to be Sanchez running in the alley toward the truck, the affidavit said. The driver works for a company that specializes in commercial cooking oil recycling and disposal, and he was performed his work duties, it said.

Sanchez opened the truck door and began talking to the driver, the affidavit said. Sanchez told the driver he couldn’t be at the loading dock and that Sanchez had spoken to the hotel manager, the document said. Sanchez smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred, the driver told police.

Affidavit says Sanchez threw truck driver to ground

Sanchez followed the driver from side to side of the truck, the court document said. When the driver darted toward the driver’s door, video showed Sanchez “grabbing and throwing” the driver toward a hotel wall, it said. The fight continued against a dumpster and Sanchez threw the driver to the ground, it said.

Sanchez climbed into the truck but got out when told by the driver he wasn’t allowed in, it said. Sanchez repeated that he spoke to a manager and didn’t want the driver to replace fryer oil, the document said. Sanchez tried again to get into the truck and blocked the driver from calling his manager, it said.

Believing he was in danger, the driver grabbed pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed Sanchez’s face, it said. Sanchez wiped his face and advanced toward the driver again, it said.

The driver then pulled his knife and stabbed Sanchez as the ex-quarterback came at him, it said. The driver fell onto pallets on the ground, he told police.

  • New details released after former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez’s arrest in Indianapolis

    [ad_1]

INDIANAPOLIS — Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez is facing charges for his alleged role in a stabbing incident in Indianapolis that left him hospitalized, and according to court documents, it all stemmed from an argument he had with a 69-year-old man.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement the arrest came after further investigation and consultation with the prosecutor’s office.

“Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all which are misdemeanors,” police said in the statement.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case obtained by our sister station, ABC7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles, on Sunday, the argument occurred in an alley near The Westin Indianapolis hotel and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.

The affidavit says the man, who works for a company that specializes in commercial cooking oil recycling and disposal, was backed into the loading dock area at the Westin.

The affidavit states that at one point, according to surveillance video reviewed by officers, Sanchez is seen “grabbing and throwing” the man toward the wall of the Westin hotel.

The documents say the man was defending himself after Sanchez threw him to the ground.

The man pepper sprayed Sanchez in the face, according to the affidavit, and told officers that the spray “appeared to have an effect on Sanchez for a moment,” but that Sanchez “wiped his face and again advanced” towards him.

According to the affidavit, the man thought “this guy is trying to kill me” so he pulled out a knife and when Sanchez approached him, the man “struck him two or three times.”

The man suffered a cut to his cheek and was treated at a hospital and was later released.

Sanchez, 38, remains hospitalized and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center, police said. He was earlier listed in stable condition, according to Fox Sports.

Sanchez, 38, played eight seasons in the NFL after being selected fifth overall by the New York Jets in the 2009 draft out of USC. He helped the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in his first two seasons.

He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington, the team which he last appeared in a regular season game for in 2018.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis as part of the broadcasting crew for Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

On Saturday, police said they were a investigating a “physical disturbance” that occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the popular Wholesale District, next to the Indiana statehouse.

At the time, police said one adult male suffered lacerations and a second man sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds, according to police. Both men received medical treatment, police said earlier.

In the latest statement, police said, “All involved parties have been identified, and no further individuals are being sought by detectives.”

The Marion County Prosecutor’s office will make the final decision on charges, police said.

The Southern California native spent four seasons with the New York Jets after being drafted by the team in 2009. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Washington over a 10-year career.

“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time,” Fox Sports said in a statement on social media Saturday.

“Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6,” the New York Jets said in a statement Saturday.

  • Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback stabbed and arrested in Indianapolis

    [ad_1]

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed in an incident in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and he was later arrested on Saturday evening for his role in the incident.

TMZ first reported that Sanchez was hospitalized and in critical condition after being stabbed in Indianapolis, and later official information from FOX communicated that he was in stable condition and that they were sending their thoughts and prayers for their longtime TV color analyst. Sanchez is scheduled to be on the call for FOX for the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but he is expected to be replaced.

Later in the afternoon, the IMPD announced that they had arrested the 38-year-old former NFL quarterback on three charges, all of which are misdemeanors. Here is the official statement from IMPD posted on social media:

“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident. Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified, and no further individuals are being sought by detectives.

Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

The IMPD also announced that the incident was between two males at 12:30 a.m., and it was classified as an isolated incident and not a random act of violence. Officials also said that both parties were not local residents.

Sanchez, who played eight seasons in the NFL, appeared in two games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2016 in mostly mop-up duty behind Dak Prescott while Tony Romo was sidelined with injury. He completed 10-of-18 passes for 138 yards and three interceptions in his time with the franchise.

After being drafted fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets — who at the time were led offensively by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer — Sanchez would end up starting 73 games in his NFL career and throwing for 15,357 yards.

Shortly after retiring from the NFL in 2019, Sanchez spent two seasons with ESPN before making the move to FOX in July 2021 where has been a color analyst for middle-of-the-road afternoon games.

TMZ Sports first reported the stabbing early Sunday morning, and Fox Sports later corroborated the story with a statement confirming Sanchez’s hospitalization.

Fox’s statement reads, “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
