The transition from leader of the free world to regular old civilian is one that only a small group of people will ever experience, and with no official guidebook to tell them what to do, ex-presidents are forced to forge their own paths. George W. Bushtook up painting. Bill Clintoncaught up on TV shows he’d missed and started a philanthropic foundation. Barack Obama wrote another memoir, did a podcast with Bruce Springsteen, and got halfway to EGOT status. As for the most recent individual to exit the White House? In addition to still obsessing (and lying) about the 2020 election, dining with noted antisemites, and defending the violent mob that broke into the US Capitol on January 6, he mostly spends his days staying cocooned in his for-profit club, where aides are tasked with drumming up good press—and he can avoid anyone telling him how much he sucks.
Yes, according to a report from TheWashington Post re: Donald Trump’s life of late, a typical day for the ex-president involves rising early, making calls, watching TV, and reading some newspapers. After that, virtually every day of the week, he plays golf; while on the course, he is often accompanied by a former One America News host named Natalie Harp, who rides along in a cart “equipped with a laptop and sometimes a printer to show him uplifting news articles, online posts, or other materials.” On “quiet days,” when Harp has presumably been unable to find anyone saying anything positive about the former guy in even the worst corners of the internet, another aide, Molly Michael, has reportedly phoned up “Trump’s network of allies across the country requesting that they dial the former president to boost his spirits with positive affirmations.” According to people who have been on the receiving end of these requests, Michael has essentially said there’s no need to worry that Trump is, like, going to harm himself or anything; this is simply about feeding his insatiable appetite for attention.
To that end, in perhaps one of the saddest anecdotes concerning Trump’s transition from POTUS to FPOTUS, the former guy reportedly “asked a team of advisers” in early 2021 “if he could summon a press pool” for an event at his club, only to be told, per a former aide, “that he didn’t have a group standing around waiting for him anymore,” on account of the whole no-longer-being-president thing. According to the Post, the team cobbled together “the few reporters who happened to be reporting in Palm Beach” and had time in their schedules to show up.
Anyway, back to a day in the life of our extremely cosseted ex-president. After lunch, 45 changes into a suit and “shows up in the office above the Mar-a-Lago ballroom”; Harp, who often “perches herself right outside” said office, is there to “cater attentively to his need for constant praise,” which we assume involves yet more printouts about conservative commentators saying things like, “Donald Trump should be crowned emperor,” or simply calling him “my liege.” Come dinnertime, Trump shows up in the public portion of the club, where paying members “stand and applaud at his appearance” and then do so “again after he finishes his meal and retires for the night.” Sometimes he makes unannounced appearances at people’s weddings and delivers speeches about himself; an equal opportunist, he has also done this at memorial services. In case it wasn’t clear, Trump’s choice to basically never leave Mar-a-Lago, or one of his other for-profit clubs, means that he, a guy who would benefit from a dose of constructive criticism—or someone bluntly explaining to him that he’s a malignant cancer on society—never has to encounter anyone who thinks he’s anything less than the greatest president to ever live.

As a private citizen, Trump is far more isolated than he was as president. He makes virtually no public appearances outside of political rallies where he is surrounded by even larger crowds of screaming fans. (Despite declaring his reelection campaign in the Mar-a-Lago ballroom on Nov. 15, he has not emerged from his cocoon for a rally out in the country since then.) He takes no vacations to properties he does not own. He almost never encounters people willing to challenge his behavior—much less true political opponents.
Several people close to Trump said there are only a few people who are willing to deliver bad news left in his orbit, political adviser Susan Wiles chief among them. His circle has shrunken considerably, with many of his longtime allies attempting to avoid dinner invites—and some even weighing roles with other 2024 candidates. “No one wants to confront him because he can be a beast,” one adviser said.
Some longtime aides are particularly distressed by the influence of Harp, 31, who is rarely absent from his side.… “She is indicative of the people around him who just love him,” the adviser said. “Love him too much.”
According to the Post, there is “no senior aide living in Florida full time, with advisers flying in and out as needed.” Which apparently means a lot of “Yes, sir, you are the best, sir” and little to no adult supervision, thus leading to things like dinners with antisemites and white supremacists. “He needs someone there to say, ‘Here’s a really bad idea, and this is why.’ I don’t think he has that kind of crowd around him right now. Nor does the president want anybody like that,” David Urban, a former Trump adviser, told the outlet.
Donald Trump has reportedly been secluding himself at his Florida club in the weeks since he announced his 2024 presidential bid ― and Seth Meyers calls the timing “crazy.”
“The GOP [midterm] performance was so bad that even Donald Trump, a man who craves the spotlight more than he craves food and water ― or I guess food and Diet Coke ― has essentially been forced into isolation,” the “Late Night” host said Monday.
According to The Washington Post, the former president has rarely left his residence at the Mar-a-Lago estate in three weeks. Since announcing his intention to run for the White House again, Trump has faced a series of political blows, including backlash over a dinner meeting with white supremacist Nick Fuentes and criticism from prominent Republicans over a social media post in which he suggested the “termination” of the Constitution.
And amid finger-pointing over Republicans’ poor midterm election performance, yet another Trump-backed candidate, Herschel Walker, lost out in Georgia’s Senate runoff last week to the Democratic incumbent, Raphael Warnock.
“I want to emphasize again: Trump’s isolation started after he announced he was running for president again,” Meyers said. “It’s one thing to say ‘I just lost my reelection bid; I’m going to take some time to myself’ and then go into seclusion. But it’s crazy to do it after announcing you’re running for the most powerful office in the world.
“He probably just lies in bed all day with noise-canceling headphones on, listening to his old speeches,” he added, playing an excerpt from a Trump speech about one of his oldest nemeses.
Ten days after an appeals court issued a scathing ruling saying the federal judge who intervened on Donald Trump’s behalf to appoint a special master in the Mar-a-Lago classified-documents case had no authority to do so, the ex-president’s attempt to jam up the investigation into the Justice Department’s criminal probe has come to an end. On Monday, that judge, Aileen Cannon, officially dismissed Trump’s lawsuit challenging the August search of Mar-a-Lago, which had led to the appointment of special master Raymond Dearie and temporarily blocked prosecutors from using the classified documents seized during the FBI search as part of their investigation. In a one-page order, Cannon wrote that she was throwing out the case due to “lack of jurisdiction.” As CNN notes, the move “now gives the Justice Department full access to tens of thousands of records and other items found among documents marked as classified in Trump’s beach club and private office.”
The appeals court ruling, which came earlier this month, was seen as a clear victory for the Justice Department and an obvious defeat for both Trump and Cannon. The opinion, issued by a three-judge panel of conservatives—two of whom were appointed by none other than Trump—excoriated Cannon, calling her installation of the special master a “dramatic and unwarranted” intervention that was not hers to make. As legal journalist Chris Geidnerput it, “I would simply not leave the house ever again if a panel of fellow-traveler judges did this to me in an opinion.” In perhaps a sign of just how thoroughly the appeals court upbraided Cannon, and made it clear Trump did not deserve the treatment she afforded him, the ex-president did not appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, which he had the option to do.
Previously, Cannon had delivered major legal wins for Trump, the first one being when she blocked the DOJ from using the classified documents the FBI had seized as part of their probe into the ex-president, and the second one being when she told the ex-president he didn’t have to follow the special master’s orders.
Last month, Attorney General Merrick Garlandappointed a special counsel, Jack Smith, to oversee both the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Trump’s decision to take classified documents to Mar-a-Lago, as well as and key aspects of its investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol. According to CNN, Smith “is moving fast“ on those probes and “has made a series of high-profile moves since he was put in charge last month, including asking a federal judge to hold Trump in contempt for failing to comply with a subpoena ordering him to turn over records marked classified.” (On Friday, a federal judge declined to do so.) The outlet also reports that while some within Trumpworld view Smith’s appointment as a positive development for Trump’s freedom, others are worried he was brought in as a “hit man” and is likely to indict the ex-president.
On Wednesday, The Washington Postreported that lawyers for Trump had uncovered “at least two [additional] items marked classified after an outside team hired by Trump searched a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Fla., used by the former president.” (The unit also reportedly contained boxes of “suits and swords and wrestling belts,” among other things.) For his part, Trump has spent months claiming all classified documents in his possession had been returned to the government, which was obviously not true.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for Donald Trump were in court Friday for sealed arguments as part of the ongoing investigation into the presence of classified information at the former president’s Florida estate.
The proceedings were taking place before U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, the chief judge of the federal court in the District of Columbia. Defense lawyers were seen entering the courtroom around 2 p.m. and left more than an hour later without addressing reporters.
A lawyer for The Associated Press and other news organizations had submitted a letter earlier Friday requesting media access to the hearing, but despite that, it took place entirely behind closed doors.
Court spokeswoman Lisa Klem said in a statement that the hearing concerned “an ongoing and sealed grand jury matter” that remains under seal.
It was not immediately clear what the outcome of the proceedings were. The Washington Post, relying on anonymous sources, reported on Thursday that the Justice Department had earlier asked Howell to hold Trump’s office in contempt for failure to fully comply with a May subpoena that sought the return of classified documents in his possession. The department also wants the Trump team to appoint a custodian of records who could attest that all classified documents have been returned, according to the Post.
Lawyers for Trump declined to comment ahead of the hearing. A Justice Department spokesman also did not return a phone message seeking comment Friday afternoon.
The roughly 100 documents marked as classified that the FBI took from Mar-a-Lago in August were on top of 37 documents bearing classification markings that Trump lawyers retrieved from the home during a June visit. In addition, 15 boxes containing about 184 classified documents were recovered in January by the National Archives and Records Administration.
The possibility that the Justice Department had not yet recovered all classified materials has existed for months.
The FBI’s August search of the home came after investigators developed evidence indicating that additional sensitive documents remained there, even though Trump representatives had certified in June that all classified documents requested in a Justice Department subpoena had been located and returned.
The Trump lawyer who made that representation and who was serving as the custodian of his records at the time, Christina Bobb, was interviewed by the FBI in October. She told investigators that she had not drafted the letter but that another Trump lawyer who she said actually prepared it had asked her to sign it in her role as a designated custodian of Trump’s records, a person familiar with her account has told AP.
The Post reported earlier this week that two additional documents with classification markings were found during a recent search of a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Florida that was arranged by Trump’s lawyers. Those items were then turned over to the FBI.
Representatives of former President Donald Trump alerted the FBI that they found another set of potentially sensitive documents in a storage facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, a U.S. official confirmed to CBS News.
The revelation is the first indication classified materials might have been held or might be at Trump properties.
The searches by Trump representatives were conducted around Thanksgiving at three other locations — the former president’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump Tower in New York and in a storage facility at Mar-a-Lago in Florida — according to The Washington Post, which first reported the story.
It comes at a time of growing legal peril for the former president.
The FBI seized 33 boxes of records on Aug. 8 during the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, including records that were supposed to be in the hands of the National Archives.
Last month, the Justice Department appointed special counsel Jack Smith to oversee the growing probe into those documents.
Trump has downplayed the importance of the seizures, but critics say his alleged mishandling of the records could have allowed highly sensitive material to fall into the wrong hands.
“The disregard and disdain for legal norms and rules simply cannot be accepted from anyone,” said Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal. “No one is above the law.”
Back in October, The New York Timesreported that—despite the government showing up to Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in January 2022 to retrieve 15 boxes of documents that were not his to take from White House; Trump subsequently trying to get one of his lawyers to falsely tell the government that all requested materials have been turned over; the government issuing a grand jury subpoena for the remainder of them in May; a Trump attorney signing a statement in June saying they had all been returned; and the FBI searching Mar-a-Lago in August and finding more than 100 additional classified documents—the Department of Justice believed that the ex-president was still in possession of government records that were not his to keep. And, as it turns out, that hunch was right!
According to The Washington Post, lawyers for the 45th president—and current 2024 candidate—uncovered “at least two items marked classified after an outside team hired by Trump searched a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Fla., used by the former president,” according to sources familiar with the matter. A person who spoke to the outlet said that, in addition to the classified documents, the storage unit contained boxes of “suits and swords and wrestling belts and all sorts of things.” According to Trump advisers, nothing in the unit had been catalogued, as had been the case with the classified Mar-a-Lago documents, some of which reportedly contained information about a foreign country’s nuclear capabilities. As the Post notes, “the ultimate significance of the classified material in the storage unit is not immediately clear, but its presence there indicates Mar-a-Lago was not the only place where Trump kept classified material” and “provides further evidence that Trump and his team did not fully comply with a May grand jury subpoena that sought all documents marked classified still in possession of the post-presidential office.”
Team Trump, of course, continues to insist that the ex-president has totally not spent months giving the federal government the runaround and has been as honest as a person can be. “President Trump and his counsel continue to be cooperative and transparent,” spokesman Steven Cheung told the Post, despite the fact that this is quite obviously not the case. (Cheung is also accusing the Department of Justice of waging an “unprecedented” and “unwarranted attack” against Trump and his family.) Additional searches were reportedly performed at Trump Tower in New York, Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, NJ, and in a storage closet at Mar-a-Lago.
In October, The New York Timesreported that Walt Nauta, a valet for Trump, had been captured on camera moving boxes out of a Mar-a-Lago storage room “both before and after the Justice Department issued a subpoena in May demanding the return of all classified documents.” Nauta is said to have been interviewed by the DOJ on “several occasions.” Naturally, Trump’s Save America PAC is footing the valet’s legal bills, and those of at least one other key witness.
When former President Donald Trump held a now-infamous dinner last month with Ye, the antisemitic rapper formerly known as Kanye West, and a prominent white nationalist, an unnamed additional guest sat alongside the powerful men.
NBC News reported only that the other person in Ye’s group was the parent of a student at Donda Academy, the rapper’s private school in California. But while speaking about the dinner this week, Ye briefly referred to a man named Jamar Montgomery during a livestream with far-right influencer Tim Pool. Ye identified him as a “Boeing engineer.”
HuffPost tracked Montgomery down and spoke with him Thursday night. He is indeed a Boeing employee, though he did not confirm any connection with Donda Academy. Montgomery told a wild tale about how an invitation from Ye, whom he says he barely knew, quickly led to a dinner with the former leader of the free world. Montgomery shared some details from the evening, including some insight into why a mysterious phone call suddenly darkened Trump’s mood, after which he began treating Ye with open hostility.
Just a few days after Montgomery met Ye, he said Ye invited him to come along on a visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
Montgomery didn’t second-guess the invitation.
“All I know is he asked me,” Montgomery recalled to HuffPost. “He obviously felt that either my presence or my input was going to be valuable, and wanted me there, that’s as far as I can surmise.”
“I wasn’t necessarily going to ask, ‘Why do you want me there?’ It’s like looking a gift horse in the mouth. You’re asking me to go meet the former president? Uh, yes,” he said.
The meeting was another stop on Ye’s 2024 presidential run — which so far has included saying he’s going “Death Con 3 on Jewish People,” and, more recently, praising Adolf Hitler and faulting “the Jewish media” for pushing the narrative that the Nazis “never offered us anything of value.” For Trump, the dinner has become a liability given Ye’s recent public antisemitism, as well as the well-documented bigotry of his other companion that night, Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist livestreamer.
Montgomery told HuffPost he didn’t know about Fuentes’ views until after the meeting, and that as a civil rights activist, “I fight against Nazism.”
But last week, he accepted Ye’s invitation.
And so Montgomery flew from California to Florida, where Karen Giorno, an adviser to Trump’s 2016 campaign, drove the crew to Trump’s resort and home. A campaign adviser for Ye’s 2024 presidential bid, far-right influencer Milo Yiannopoulos, organized the dinner but did not attend, Montgomery said.
“Next thing you know, we’re having dinner on the patio at Mar-a-Lago,” he said.

Montgomery said Ye initially reached out to him about two weeks ago to talk about education, given Montgomery’s experience as an educator and tutor.
Montgomery confirmed he worked for Boeing, but said, “the work that’s most important to me is the work that I do for the people.” He cited his efforts to teach his community about financial literacy, cryptocurrency and political science. A Boeing spokesperson confirmed to HuffPost that someone of the same name works for the company. The spokesperson declined to describe Montgomery’s work, citing privacy reasons, and said “we did not have an employee there representing Boeing in any official capacity.”
Montgomery ran for U.S. Senate in Louisiana in 2020 as a no-party-affiliation candidate, ultimately earning 5,804 votes, and he currently goes by the moniker “The Crypto Politician.”
And as for the dinner? “I was there as a spectator. I was just along for the ride.”
HuffPost was unable to reach Ye, Fuentes or Yiannopoulos for comment. Neither Giorno nor representatives for Trump immediately responded to HuffPost’s requests for comment.

‘Do You Want Your Friends To Come With You?’
If Mar-a-Lago had some sort of security protocol tasked with vetting him as a visitor, “I wasn’t quite aware,” Montgomery recalled. He said he’d heard before the visit that the group’s names were being sent to Mar-a-Lago staff, but once at the property, someone checked Giorno’s credentials and “saw Ye, saw us and about a minute or two later, went ahead and let us in.”
After a few minutes sitting in Mar-a-Lago’s foyer, “the next thing we know, we see the president coming out.”
Trump “seemed very excited” to see Ye, Montgomery recalled, but did not seem to recognize anyone else in the party, even Giorno, who later told Trump she was his campaign’s Florida state director in 2016. Nonetheless, Trump asked, “Do you want your friends to come with you?” to which Ye replied, “If it’s OK with you.” Trump agreed, Montgomery said.
The president would later claim he “knew nothing about” Fuentes. Montgomery also said that after he mentioned his own 2020 U.S. Senate bid in Louisiana, Trump was “trying to figure out who the senator in that state was.”
Mar-a-Lago was “top notch,” with friendly staff, Montgomery said — “you knew that you were around wealth.” The group sat at a table in the middle of the patio, and at first, things were jovial. Trump did most of the talking, and allowed Ye to choose some of his music to play — something off of his “808s and Heartbreak,” Montgomery said, though he couldn’t recall which song. (It’s not his favorite album.)
“He was very charming, and very personable,” Montgomery recalled of the former president.
Fuentes was “fawning over Trump and some of his speeches,” though, as has been reported elsewhere, he critiqued Trump’s recent speech announcing his 2024 candidacy as not as invigorating to Trump’s base as his initial 2016 campaign rhetoric, Montgomery said. Trump “seemed interested and wanted to hear a little bit more,” though Montgomery didn’t recall other details, other than that Trump didn’t seem to recognize Fuentes.
“All of the sudden, he gets a phone call, and the whole mood switches,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery speculated the call may have been related to a mistakenly sent text message. During the dinner, Ye attempted to send a message to Fuentes, only to accidentally send it to an attorney, Montgomery recalled. Trump received a call shortly thereafter. A spokesperson for the attorney in question, Nick Gravante, denied to Newsweek that Gravante made any call to Trump nor anyone in his orbit.
It was a noticeable shift: Trump crossed his arms. “His whole tone changed, his whole demeanor changed. He said some things about Kim Kardashian. And at first I was like, ‘You must be talking about somebody else,’ and when I realized who he was talking about, I was like, ‘Whoa.’” (Ye mentioned Trump insulting Kardashian as well.)
After Montgomery noted that he’d appreciated Trump inviting historically Black college and university leaders to the White House as president, Trump began speaking about “some of his Black constituents that he felt didn’t thank him enough for what he did for them.”
Trump specifically mentioned rapper A$AP Rocky and basketball player LiAngelo Ball, Montgomery recalled. Both men were detained overseas by authorities in Sweden and China, respectively, during Trump’s tenure, and in both cases Trump intervened to assist the men. (Whether this actually helped is a differentstory.)
Trump recalled “how he was talking to the other presidents of the other countries, and negotiating with them about getting them out,” Montgomery recalled. “He felt that the people that he had helped hadn’t thanked him enough.”
“If I could do it again, I wouldn’t,” Montgomery recalled Trump saying.
At some point after the call, Ye also asked Trump to be his running mate for 2024. Trump declined “in so many words,” Montgomery recalled, and urged Ye not to run, raising his voice.
“You can’t win!” Trump yelled at Ye, Montgomery recalled. “I have a base of 125 million people! You can’t win.” Trump looked at Fuentes, urging him, “You’ve got to tell him the truth, you’re a smart guy, you’ve got to tell him the truth that he can’t win!” He told Giorno, “Yeah, you’ll get consulting fees off of this, but you’ve got to tell him the truth that he can’t win!”
‘I Didn’t Mince Words’
It was only after the dinner that Montgomery was able to research Fuentes and Yiannopoulos, he said.
“I’ve fought against those kinds of people and that ideology for my entire adult life,” he said. In a tweet a few days after the dinner, he called out police in Shreveport, Louisiana, for not stepping in when in 2020, “ARMED Neo Confederates and Neo Nazis came across the street and snatched signs and berated our demonstrators.”

“I have family members who fought against Nazis,” he said later. “I fight against Nazism.”
Learning about Fuentes’ and Yiannopolous’ views was disappointing, he said. Referring to the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 and the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot – Fuentes attended the first and spoke at a rally on the eve of the latter — Montgomery emphasized the First Amendment’s right to peaceably assemble. “The challenge is when one group decides that one group has the right to exercise that right, and another group does not.”
And what about Ye, who had already publicly promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories before the Mar-a-Lago dinner?
“Ye’s very well aware of how I feel. I didn’t mince words,” Montgomery said, adding that he told the rapper, “anything that does not unite this country, that seeks to divide, that seeks to treat people as if they’re less than others, is not of God.”
He declined to detail his conversations with Ye further, including whether or not the two have spoken since the dinner. He said Thursday night that he hadn’t seen Ye’s appearance a few hours earlier on far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ Infowars program. Asked if he would respond to quotes from Ye praising Hitler and the Nazis, Montgomery said he’d prefer to watch the program himself, “and get full context.”
He veered into a discussion of history, including that of slave-owning U.S. presidents who are still celebrated today; and Belgium’s King Leopold II, whose bloody colonial reign resulted in the deaths of millions of Congolese people. The United States, he said, should confront the evils of slavery, Jim Crow laws, mass incarceration and the economic disenfranchisement of African Americans as a “permanent underclass.”
“If we’re going to fight against evil, we cannot be selective,” Montgomery said.
He added separately, “Ye is his own man, with his own thoughts, with his own words that he’s going to be responsible and accountable for.”
Still, Montgomery has appeared to defend Ye at times, even after the superstar made numerous antisemitic remarks. Montgomery has said Ye and NBA player Kyrie Irving were “financially lynched.”
In an Instagram video on Nov. 4, Montgomery referred to Ye and Irving: “We’re holding these men responsible for their words as if they’re the most educated individuals of our group, as if they intentionally said these words to be offensive. It’s unfair to go after these men’s character, and calling them antisemitic.” He later urged people to “come to the table in good faith,” but asked, “why is this even an issue in the first place? It’s an athlete and an entertainer.”
A few days prior, on Oct. 25, Montgomery said that while many people were upset with Ye, “I’m not one of them.” He added, “With all of the quote-unquote cancellations that are going on right now, it’s only proving his point that, here it is, you can offend this group of people, and these are the consequences.”
In the same video, Montgomery noted the common response to Ye’s comments: That he should simply call out individual people who’ve screwed him over in business deals. But if Ye only went after specific people, Montgomery said, “well, there’s going to be others who sit there and defend that individual. People who are colluding and utilizing their power against Kanye West. And we, as Black people, we should not be abandoning our brother.”
Asked Thursday about that video, and whether Ye should have called out individuals rather than an entire religion, Montgomery said, “He could have did a number of things. But he chose the route that he decided to choose.”

Just days after dining at Mar-a-Lago with Ye — the rapper previously known as Kanye West — and white supremacist political activist Nick Fuentes, Donald Trump is now calling Ye a “seriously troubled man.”
It was Trump’s third attempt on Truth Social to backpedal from his hugely controversial meeting last Tuesday with Holocaust denier Fuentes and Ye, whose antisemitic messages (in which he vowed to go “death con 3” on Jewish people) were recently blocked on Twitter.
“So I help a seriously troubled man, who just happens to be black,” Trump wrote Saturday, offering “very much needed ‘advice.’” Ye has “always been good to me,” Trump added.
The former president insisted yet again in the post that he didn’t know Fuentes, who accompanied Ye to dinner.
As of late Saturday Ye had not yet responded to Trump’s latest Truth Social message. He has talked openly about his bipolar disorder diagnosis, a condition he has also referred to as a “super power.”
As for Fuentes, Trump was “very impressed” with him, according to Ye. Sources told The New York Times and Axios that Trump even praised Fuentes at the dinner. “He gets me,” the former president said, according to the Times.
But in each of the three posts, Trump emphasized that he had no idea who Fuentes was.
“I don’t think he knew that I was me at the dinner” — at least initially, Fuentes laughed. “Let’s put it that way. I don’t know if I’m gonna say he didn’t know me. I’m not sure about that.”
Fuentes is a high-profile right-wing extremist supported by key allies of Trump, like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.). Both lawmakers spoke at a white supremacist conference organized by Fuentes early this year. That triggered heated controversy, which was widely and prominently covered by the media, which was apparently overlooked by Trump.
As for Ye’s appalling statements about Jews, Trump emphasized in an earlier Truth Social post that Ye “expressed no antisemitism” — at the dinner. Trump noted that he “appreciated all of the nice things [Ye] he said about me on ‘Tucker Carlson.’”
The dinner was first revealed in a video Friday by Ye, who claimed he asked Trump to be his vice president, and that Trump “screamed” at him.
“This is just another example of an awful lack of judgment from Donald Trump,” said Christie, who may make his own run for the presidency.
Matt Brooks, chief executive of the Republican Jewish Coalition, issued a statement, without naming Trump, saying: “We strongly condemn the virulent antisemitism of Kanye West and Nick Fuentes, and call on all political leaders to reject their messages of hate and refuse to meet with them.”
The Republican Jewish Coalition also retweeted a message from former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David M. Friedman telling Trump his meeting with both the antisemitic Ye and Fuentes was “unacceptable.”

Notorious white supremacist, Holocaust denying right-wing political extremist Nick Fuentes weighed in on his shocking Mar-a-Lago dinner with his “hero” Donald Trump, a man he said he “loves.”
“We had a very interesting dinner, which I’m sure you’ve all read about,” Fuentes said Friday on his podcast about the get-together Tuesday with his pal Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, and Trump.
Fuente’s podcast was introduced on YouTube by Ye, whose antisemitic messages were blocked on Twitter earlier this year.
“I have to say about the events of the last week, I’m a little bit embarrassed in a certain sense because, you know, this has become a little bit of a scandal for President Trump,” Fuentes said.
Fuentes said he told Trump at the dinner: “Mr. President, you are one of the greatest Americans that has ever lived … I love you. I supported you all these years.”
Trump “really has been a hero of mine,” Fuentes added on the podcast. But he also indicated Trump — whom he referred to as a “moderate” — has to step it up if he has any hope of winning the presidency in 2024.
After media reports surfaced, Trump confirmed the dinner, but claimed he had no idea who Fuentes was. He also emphasized that Ye said nothing antisemitic as the men dined.
Fuentes also hedged on his podcast about Trump knowing him.
“I don’t think he knew that I was me at the dinner” — at least initially, Fuentes laughed. “Let’s put it that way. I don’t know if I’m gonna say he didn’t know me. I’m not sure about that.”
The fourth member of the dinner party, Karen Giorno — a veteran political operative who worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign — confirmed to Josh Hawley of The Washington Post that Trump “was impressed with Nick and his knowledge of Trump World.” But the president didn’t “initially seem to know” who he was, Giorno said.
Giorno said Trump wanted to talk about 2024 and his “base” of supporters, while Fuentes repeatedly told him that he was “better when he was fiery and off the cuff.” At some point the discussion became “heated,” she said.

Former President Donald Trump had dinner Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago estate with white nationalist Nick Fuentes and rapper Kanye West, a Trump adviser confirmed to CBS News on Friday.
The former president said in a statement to CBS News that he did not know who Fuentes was, nor that he would be arriving with West, who is also known as Ye.
“Kanye West very much wanted to visit Mar-a-Lago. Our dinner meeting was intended to be Kanye and me only, but he arrived with a guest whom I had never met and knew nothing about,” Trump said in a statement to CBS News.
The news of the dinner was first reported by Axios.
Fuentes is a leading figure on the far-right, having attended the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville in 2017 and the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6. Fuentes, who has spread antisemitic conspiracies, is considered a white supremacist by the Anti-Defamation League. According to the ADL, “Fuentes ‘jokingly’ denied the Holocaust and compared Jews burnt in concentration camps to cookies in an oven.”
West has been embroiled in controversy for weeks since posting antisemitic remarks, having lost high-profile sponsorships including Addidas, Gap and Balenciaga. He had been restricted from Twitter after his antisemitic tweets, but he posted last week that he had been unblocked.
West, who has said he is running for president in 2024, tweeted a video late Thursday saying he had a “debrief” with Trump, and he asked Trump to be his running mate.
But West said Trump “basically started screaming at me, telling me I was gonna lose.” Trump announced on Nov. 15 that he is running for president in 2024.
West also said he “loves Trump,” but said he told the former president he needed to bring back some of his loyalists who the media “tried to cancel,” such as Corey Lewandowski, and free the people arrested in connection to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“He basically gives me this would be ‘mob-esque’ kinda story, talking to some kid from the southside of Chicago, trying to sound ‘mobby’ or whatever, and he goes into this story about all that went through to get Alice Johnson out of jail, and how he didn’t do it for Kim and he did it for me,” West said.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said Ye asked him “for advice concerning some of his difficulties, in particular having to do with his business” during their Mar-a-Lago meeting.
“We also discussed, to a lesser extent, politics, where I told him he should definitely not run for President, ‘any voters you may have should vote for TRUMP.’ Anyway, we got along great, he expressed no anti-Semitism, & I appreciated all of the nice things he said about me on ‘Tucker Carlson.’ Why wouldn’t I agree to meet? Also, I didn’t know Nick Fuentes.”
The top House Republican slated to take over the chamber’s investigation into classified documents found at the former president’s Florida estate said it “will not be a priority” in the new Congress.
Rep. Jim Comer of Kentucky, likely the next chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told CNN in a sit-down interview that, “we’re just waiting to see what comes out of that.”
“That will not be a priority,” he added, noting that his team has requested information on the status of the House investigation.
The committee has been conducting its own investigation into former President Donald Trump’s handling of presidential records, separate from the ongoing Justice Department probe that led to the search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last month and the seizure of thousands of documents, including some marked classified.
Merrick Garland announces special counsel to oversee Trump investigations
Earlier this year, the committee’s current chairwoman, Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, sent a letter to the National Archives, or NARA, asking for an assessment of whether there are presidential records still unaccounted for and in Trump’s possession, CNN previously reported.
Asked whether he accepts NARA’s insistence that it does not make any decisions based on political views, Comer reiterated that, “we’ll have to wait and see.”
“I know that the day that National Archives met with Carolyn Maloney, was the day that they contacted the DOJ about their concern. So I don’t know,” Comer said. “I don’t get involved in a lot of the drama from the last administration.”
On November 9 – the day after the midterm elections – Comer told CNN he is going to resend a letter to the Treasury Department demanding the agency hand over any suspicious bank activity reports linked to Hunter Biden.
A previous request was rebuffed, but Comer said the department may be more inclined to cooperate now that Republicans are going to be in charge of the House, meaning the GOP will have newfound subpoena power.

It remains to be seen whether Donald Trump will be indicted by the Justice Department for taking top secret documents with him to Mar-a-Lago and refusing to give them back, or if he’ll continue to get away with what seems to be a very serious crime. One thing the “yes, he will be indicted” column has going for it? The fact that the former president spent the weekend appearing to confess to said crimes.
On Sunday, at a rally in Miami, the ex-president ranted to the crowd that the FBI “violated” his “Fourth Amendment rights” when it raided Mar-a-Lago last August, complaining that no other former president has had his for-profit club and private residence searched. He added: “Presidents leave, they take things, they take documents, they take things, they read them. Nobody else has ever gone through this.”

In fact, despite Trump’s repeated insistence to the contrary, no other American president has ever taken presidential documents—which are the property of the US government—to their home and refused to give them back despite being ordered to do so on numerous occasions. Which makes Trump’s “everybody does it” line not only BS but, according to legal experts, potential evidence to be used against him in court.
“Here’s Trump apparently admitting to illegally taking top secret documents when he left the White House,” Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, the government watchdog group, wrote on Twitter. “Everybody drink when he says something self-incriminating,” tweeted attorney George Conway, who also wrote that Trump was handing “admissible evidence” to prosecutors.
After the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago in August, Trump claimed that Barack Obama had absconded with “33 million pages” of presidential documents, many of them classified—a lie that the National Archives itself debunked. Last month, Trump also suggested at a rally that George H.W. Bush, who is no longer alive, should be prosecuted for hiding classified documents in a “bowling-alley-slash-Chinese-restaurant,” which also never happened.
As The Hill noted on Monday, congressional Republicans have said that they will go nuclear if the Justice Department indicts Trump, which some believe could happen in the next several months. Speaking to the outlet, Ted Cruz, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, warned, “If Biden treats the Department of Justice as partisan storm troopers, then Congress is justified in using whatever tools Congress has to stop that abuse of power.”
Patel, a top adviser to the ex-president, is expected to testify after receiving immunity from prosecution over the information he reveals in his testimony, people familiar with the matter told the Journal on Wednesday.
A federal judge ruled that the Justice Department could not force the outspoken Trump defender to testify unless he had received such a protection. When Patel appeared before the grand jury last month, he refused to answer any questions and repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment rights.
The grand jury Patel is expected to appear before is looking into the possible mishandling of highly classified documents that FBI agents removed in August from Mar-a-Lago, which is now Trump’s primary residence. Patel, whom Trump named as one of his representatives to the National Archives when he left office, asserted after the search that Trump had declassified those documents when he left office before they were brought to his Florida resort.
“The bottom line was [Trump] said this information has to get out to the American public,” Patel said at the time.
Some of the documents gathered contained highly sensitive U.S. intelligence about Iran and China, people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post last month.
Patel, who published a children’s book pushing conspiracy theories about the 2020 election this year, was outraged when an affidavit the DOJ released after the search did not have his name redacted.
“Today marks another vicious attack from DOJ/FBI who intentionally jeopardized my safety by un-redacting my name in the most reviewed search warrant in the history of the United States,” he wrote on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
The sources who spoke with the Journal added that other Trump associates have also been offered immunity in exchange for their testimony.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is seeking to again question an associate of Donald Trump who was seen on security camera footage moving boxes of classified records at the former president’s Florida estate, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Walt Nauta has already been interviewed by investigators examining the potential mishandling of classified government records at Mar-a-Lago and prosecutors want to speak with him again as they try to understand how boxes came to be relocated from a storage room at the property, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing probe.
The Justice Department declined to comment.
The department is investigating potential violations of multiple criminal statutes, including unlawful retention of national defense information and obstruction. It is not clear whether anyone will be charged.
The obstruction aspect of the probe burst into public view in August when prosecutors in a court filing described how classified documents were “likely concealed and removed” from a Mar-a-Lago storage room in a potential effort to obstruct the investigation and impede Justice Department efforts to recover the records.
The Justice Department in May issued a subpoena seeking the return of classified records taken from the White House to Mar-a-Lago after Trump’s term had ended.
Law enforcement officials visited on June 3 to collect the records, and were given an envelope containing 38 documents with classification markings. They also instructed the Trump legal team to preserve the boxes of classified records in the storage room until further notice.
But FBI agents came to believe that more documents remained at the home, and that there had been efforts to obstruct their probe. They returned on Aug. 8 with a court-authorized search warrant and collected more than 100 documents marked as classified, including at the top-secret level.
The person who spoke to the AP declined to characterize Nauta’s precise account to the authorities. The Washington Post reported earlier this month that a Trump associate, since identified as Nauta, told the FBI that he had moved boxes at Trump’s explicit direction.
The New York Times, which reported earlier Monday that prosecutors were seeking another interview with Nauta, also cited one person briefed on the matter as saying that Nauta said he had acted at Trump’s direction. But the newspaper cited another person who described Nauta as less specific about what he had been told.
Disclosure of the documents’ contents could expose US intelligence-gathering methods, people familiar with the matter told the Post. At least one of the documents describes Iran’s missile program and others described highly sensitive intelligence involving China.
The Post’s sources characterized the documents as among the most sensitive recovered by the FBI since it began its investigation of the former President and his aides into the potential mishandling of classified information.
A Trump spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment to the Post on Friday morning.
The people familiar with the matter who spoke to the Post said many of the more sensitive documents taken to the resort are analysis papers that do not contain sources’ names, though they can still provide insight to foreign adversaries. Some of the documents are only available to the highest-level officials in the US government, such as the President or Cabinet members.
CNN has reported that since the FBI search in August, the US intelligence community has restarted work on both the classification review and the so-called damage assessment related to Trump’s storage of classified materials at Mar-a-Lago.
The damage assessment is a long-term analytic product that will study what the risk would be to US national security if the material stored at Mar-a-Lago were to be exposed. The classification review is designed to review each document to establish that its classification markings are current.
On Thursday, CNN reported that Trump’s legal team is weighing whether to allow federal agents to return to the former President’s Florida residence, and potentially conduct a supervised search, to satisfy the Justice Department’s demands that all sensitive government documents are returned, sources tell CNN.
In private discussions with Trump’s team as well as court filings, the Justice Department has made clear that it believes Trump failed to comply with a May subpoena ordering the return of all documents marked as classified and that more government records remain missing.
Some in Trump’s inner circle aren’t convinced there are any remaining government documents, after the FBI seized nearly 22,000 pages when they executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago in August.
Quick question: Is there any justifiable, non-shady reason that a former president of the United States would leave the White House with secret information about two countries he regardsas enemies—one of which he publicly threatenedto attack—hide said information in his home, and then refuse to give it back despite being asked to do so multiple times? Quick answer: No! There absolutely isn’t! There are literally only incredibly suspicious ones! Which is why it’s really quite bad that Donald Trump allegedly did just that.
TheWashington Postreports that, according to people familiar with the situation, some of the classified documents removed during the August 8 raid on Mar-a-Lago “included highly sensitive intelligence regarding Iran and China.” If you’re wondering at this time if it’s possible that such highly sensitive information could simply be about, say, the best places to get breakfast in Tehran and Beijing, and thinking that this might not be as bad as it sounds, we regret to inform you that that is not the case. According to the Post, at least one of the documents recovered during the FBI raid “describes Iran’s missile program,” while others “described highly sensitive intelligence work aimed at China.” The people who spoke with the outlet said that if the information in question was shared with others, it could, per reporter Devlin Barrett, “expose intelligence-gathering methods that the United States wants to keep hidden from the world.” And if these documents fell into the hands of the wrong people, it could endanger the human sources aiding US intelligence efforts, compromise collection methods, and lead to adversaries retaliating against the US.
In other words, it’s a very big deal that Trump had this kind of stuff at his for-profit Palm Beach resort and residence, and it could tip the scales when it comes to the decision to charge him with a crime. “The exceptional sensitivity of these documents, and the reckless exposure of invaluable sources and methods of US intelligence capabilities concerning these foreign adversaries, will certainly influence the Justice Department’s determination of whether to charge Mr. Trump or others with willful retention of national defense information under the Espionage Act,” David Laufman, a former senior Justice Department official, told the Post.
A spokesperson for Trump did not respond to the Post’s requests for comment. After the story was published, the former president took to social media to rant about “the Document Hoax,” writing: “Who could ever trust corrupt, weaponized agencies, and that includes NARA…Also, who knows what NARA and the FBI plant into documents, or subtract from documents—we will never know, will we?”
Last month the Postreported that “a document describing a foreign government’s military defenses, including its nuclear capabilities, was found by FBI agents who searched former president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and private club.” It’s not clear if that document concerned China, Iran, or another country.
Since the FBI raided the Palm Beach resort in August, Trump and his allies have trotted out all manner of excuses re: why it was perfectly reasonable for him to have hundreds of classified documents, including top secret ones, that weren’t his to keep. Among other things, the 45th president has insisted that he declassified the documents in question, saying the reason some in his administration claim this isn’t true is because he declassified them with his mind and didn’t tell anyone.
Earlier this month, the Postreported that a Trump employee had told the Justice Department he’d moved boxes of documents at Mar-a-Lago at the ex-president’s behest, while The New York Times reported that a Trump aide had been caught on camera moving boxes at the club. The moving of boxes reportedly occurred both before and after Trump received a subpoena in May telling him to turn everything over.
January 6 committee formally subpoenas Trump
In keeping with his previous MO re: investigations into his actions, the odds are high to extremely high he ignores it. Per CNN:
The committee issued the subpoena to try to compel Trump to sit for a deposition under oath and to provide documents. The panel is ordering Trump to turn over documents by November 4 and either appear in person or virtually for “one or more days of deposition testimony beginning on or about November 14.” While it is not clear if Trump will comply with the subpoena, the action serves as a way for the committee to set down a marker and make clear they want information directly from Trump as the panel investigates the attack. Trump could also fight the subpoena in court, possibly setting up a hugely significant battle that could go to the highest level of the nation’s judicial branch, but it’s also possible such a legal challenge would outlast the committee’s mandate.

No firm decisions have been made while sources familiar with the situation say Trump’s legal team is continuing to weigh how accommodating or adversarial they should be toward the Justice Department.
“It’s a risk to invite a DOJ lawyer to lunch let alone back to Mar-a-Lago,” said a person close to Trump.
In the throes of multiple legal battles and hoping to alleviate some of the pressure he is facing, Trump has recently signaled to aides and allies that he is open to a less adversarial approach toward the Justice Department – one that might swiftly resolve the records issue after weeks of contentious court proceedings, according to people familiar with the situation.
The approach comes even as Trump continues to indulge legal theories that the records he took with him at the end of his presidency are his personal property, an argument his team is making in court and that he first heard from conservative judicial activist Tom Fitton.
“The general belief in Trump World is that this is much ado about nothing and the sooner we get past it the better,” said a person close to Trump, adding that the former President has told allies he “wants to move on.”
Trump’s compliance with the grand jury subpoena potentially poses a distinct legal risk amid legal wrangling over whether the former President mishandled classified documents he retained after leaving the White House. In earlier court filings, prosecutors claimed that Trump’s team had not fully complied with a subpoena served in May and “efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government’s investigation.”
At least some of the battle to secure their return has been playing out behind the scenes in a court proceeding that is under seal, according to people familiar with the situation. One potential resolution could involve the Justice Department asking a judge to issue an order compelling the Trump team to work with DOJ to arrange for another search.
The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.
Sources close to Trump said that the former President has become more amenable to the cooperative approach being advocated by some of his more experienced lawyers, including former Florida Solicitor General Chris Kise, who joined his legal team following the FBI search in August. Kise had faced headwinds from Trump and some of his more aggressive advisers.
Trump has favored a more pugilistic approach, even accusing federal investigators at one point of planting evidence during their search at Mar-a-Lago – a claim he has never substantiated in court.
As the midterm election draws closer and Trump grapples with his next political move, he and allies are eager for some relief from his web of legal troubles.
“He is worn down,” one source close to the former President said. “Getting one thing off his plate” would help him move forward.
A spokesperson for Trump declined to comment.
Among the complicating factors has been Trump’s personal views on the document dispute. He initially claimed that his team had been fully cooperative with investigators and insisted on social media “ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK,” for documents to be returned. Trump has since argued, on social media and in court filings, that the Mar-a-Lago documents are his property. “I want my documents back!” the former President said in early October.
As recently as last Thursday, Trump complained to donors at a roundtable at Mar-a-Lago that federal investigators “got to see everything” when they searched his residence and were conducting a “complete sham” investigation, according to a person familiar with his comments.
Trump has continued to complain to advisers and allies that he is being treated unfairly and different than past presidents, multiple sources said.
Some Trump allies also worry that the legal jeopardy lawyers currently face could grow worse the longer the records issue drags on.
Trump lawyer Christina Bobb had to hire her own lawyer after signing an attestation in June which declared that Trump’s team had conducted a “diligent search” to comply with the Justice Department’s subpoena and returned all documents with classified markings. Bobb, who was Trump’s custodian of records at the time, recently told federal investigators in a voluntary interview that the attestation had been drafted by another Trump lawyer, Evan Corcoran, for her to sign. A source with knowledge of the event said Bobb was rushed to Mar-a-Lago to sign the attestation, but she insisted on first adding a line that her knowledge was “based upon the information that has been provided” to her.
Two months later, the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago, recovering thousands of additional government documents, including more than 100 with classified markings.
Corcoran has insisted to colleagues that he does not believe he faces any legal risk and has not hired a lawyer, according to sources familiar with his situation.
A third Trump lawyer, Boris Epshteyn, had his cellphone seized by the FBI last month and has testified in front of a Georgia grand jury investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
In her conversation with federal investigators, Bobb also discussed Epshteyn, said a source briefed on the matter.
